00:00:00.000 Democrat Congressman Cori Bush decided to mark our nation's Independence Day by decrying America
00:00:05.940 as a rotten, evil, illegitimate country. Quote, when they say that the 4th of July is about
00:00:12.900 American freedom, she tweeted, remember this, the freedom they're referring to is for white people.
00:00:18.860 This land is stolen land and black people still aren't free. Now, Ms. Bush did not elaborate
00:00:25.880 on how an enslaved woman managed the liberty to tweet her inane musings, much less get elected
00:00:32.580 to Congress. But unfortunately, her point of view has become the mainstream one. The nation's largest
00:00:38.280 teacher union is now vowing to push critical race theory in all 50 states. NPR added a trigger warning
00:00:44.720 to the Declaration of Independence. And a new report reveals the organized campaign to push
00:00:50.740 radical sexual ideologies into kids' programming. I'm Michael Knowles. This is The Michael Knowles Show.
00:01:04.040 Welcome back to the show. My favorite comment from Friday is from Ryan Brewer, who says,
00:01:09.240 if football is everything and everything is racist, doesn't that make the NFL racist? I think it does.
00:01:17.140 I think that's pretty good argumentation. Don't think the NFL is capable of that kind of
00:01:22.760 philosophical understanding. Speaking of, I have a second place. I have a runner-up for my favorite
00:01:27.980 comment. This from Tony L., who says, Nietzsche predicted it. We killed God, the ground of all
00:01:34.160 being and rationality. Science couldn't survive once its metaphysical foundation was removed. Now,
00:01:39.480 that's a little heavy for a comment at the top of the show, but I think it's absolutely true,
00:01:43.480 and it undergirds a lot of what we're going to be talking about, about why half of the country seems
00:01:49.160 to hate our country, at least at the level of the elites. Very difficult. How do these guys get any
00:01:54.980 sleep? They must be so just fired up all of the time. Well, when I want to sleep well, do you know
00:01:59.360 what I turn to? You know. I turn to my pillow. When you think my pillow, you probably are thinking of
00:02:04.700 the greatest pillow that's ever been invented. Fair enough. It's got pillow right in the name. But my pillow
00:02:08.800 didn't just stop at pillows. My pillow created the new Giza Dream bedsheets. They look, they feel
00:02:15.020 great, which means an even better night's sleep for me, which is crucial to my very busy schedule of,
00:02:21.280 you know, smoking cigars and kind of lazing about and playing with my little kid.
00:02:25.380 My pillow found the world's best cotton called Giza. It's ultra soft and breathable. It's also
00:02:30.040 extremely durable. My pillow sheets come with a 60-day money-back guarantee and a 10-year warranty.
00:02:34.600 You're not going to need any of that because you're going to love them. The first night you sleep on
00:02:37.200 the Giza sheets, you will never want to sleep on anything else. Giza Dream sheets come in a variety
00:02:42.400 of sizes and colors. My pillow is making a special offer right now, but just for you,
00:02:48.140 my dear listener, you will receive two for one low price plus free shipping. Go to MyPillow.com
00:02:55.320 and click on the radio listeners square. Use promo code dailywire. There you will find not only this
00:02:59.340 amazing offer, but also deep discounts on all the other MyPillow products, including the MyPillow
00:03:03.260 mattress topper, MyPillow towel set and so much more. Call 1-800-951-7163. Use promo code dailywire.
00:03:08.880 Go to MyPillow.com. Make sure you use promo code dailywire. Corey Bush, not the only person
00:03:14.700 tweeting and declaring insane nonsense this 4th of July. There are a lot of people doing that.
00:03:21.880 There was a Twitter account named Lakota Man. I thought this was a parody for a second,
00:03:27.520 but I actually don't think it is. I think it might be serious or at least earnest and sincere.
00:03:34.060 I'm not serious. This is not a serious person, but he might be earnest. The Lakota Man tweeted out,
00:03:39.120 hey America, F you for desecrating our sacred mountain, hashtag happy 4th. And he's pointing
00:03:44.540 to Mount Rushmore, which I just got to visit about a month or so ago. And it's very cool. And it's very
00:03:49.540 beautiful. And it's out in the middle of nowhere. And this Lakota Man's very upset, you see,
00:03:54.040 because the Black Hills are sacred to the Lakota people until the evil white man and America came
00:04:01.400 and stole it from them. Give back the land. Now, this went viral. A lot of people were agreeing with
00:04:08.140 this man's sentiment. His photo of him flipping off Mount Rushmore appears to have been taken on a
00:04:14.160 Nokia phone from like 1992. It was very weak sort of graphics. But I Googled it. I said, wait a second.
00:04:21.880 You know, because I know it's fashionable these days to believe that the evil white man and America
00:04:28.500 specifically is the only group that ever conquered anyone else in history. But of course, conquest is
00:04:34.840 just how states have developed throughout, since the dawn of time. So how long did the Lakota have
00:04:40.880 the Black Hills for? And it turns out the Lakota, they were not born as a people in the Black Hills.
00:04:48.000 They did not spring up in the state of nature in the Black Hills. No, they conquered the Cheyenne
00:04:54.780 Indians and stole the Black Hills from them. And do you know when they did it? It wasn't in prehistory.
00:05:01.480 It wasn't millennia ago. It wasn't even all that many centuries ago. It was 1776. So as the Americans
00:05:10.460 were fighting for their independence, the Lakota were stealing the Black Hills from the Cheyenne.
00:05:16.100 And now some random dude who calls himself Lakota man is demanding that the United States give the
00:05:22.980 Black Hills back to the Lakota who stole it from the, why don't we give it to the Cheyenne? You know,
00:05:27.760 something tells me the Cheyenne probably stole it from somebody else as well. And it's not really
00:05:33.340 stealing so much as conquest. That is how America developed through treaties. First of all,
00:05:40.280 let's not forget that in 1620, when the pilgrims came to America, they initially established very
00:05:45.720 strong diplomatic relations with the Wampanoag Indians and actually allowed the Wampanoag to
00:05:49.980 become a pretty serious political power in the region. That's why the Wampanoag partnered up with
00:05:55.220 the pilgrims against warring Indian factions and they had a mutually beneficial relationship because
00:05:59.580 the Indians, contrary to modern racial theories, were not just some passive subhuman group. They
00:06:05.760 were men. They were real men who knew how to engage in diplomacy and warfare with other men. And
00:06:11.140 they did that for some time until sadly the child of the Wampanoag chieftain stupidly declared war on
00:06:17.720 the pilgrims. And then, then it all went to hell in a handbasket. A history for another time, maybe
00:06:23.280 when we get to the anniversary of the, of the Mayflower landing. But why is it that the United
00:06:28.360 States is so, is singularly responsible for all these terrible things? Lakota man, Cori Bush,
00:06:33.620 we're not the only people criticizing the U S. Mia Khalifa, who is a, she's an adult film actress. I'm very
00:06:40.080 pleased to tell you, by the way, I don't mean to preen or boast. I'm obviously a miserable sinner
00:06:44.940 who, who, you know, has, has done terrible things in my life, just as has every single person. But I
00:06:50.840 can say with total honesty, I have never seen this woman's work and I'm very glad because if her,
00:06:56.620 if her professional work is anything like her political commentary, I bet it's not very edifying.
00:07:02.240 Mia Khalifa decided to take the occasion of the 4th of July to criticize and deride the United States.
00:07:10.080 Morning, happy 4th of July. I just want to remind you guys on this beautiful independence day that
00:07:15.680 all America does is destabilize other countries and then treat refugees and immigrants from those
00:07:20.960 destabilized countries like second-class citizens and trash. So a very silly commentary. First of all,
00:07:29.000 because we only have one legal system of, uh, systemic racism in this country, right? And that
00:07:35.820 would be affirmative action, which prioritizes non-white people. It gives an advantage to non-white
00:07:44.100 people and disadvantages white people and Asians also. So the idea that refugees and people from say
00:07:50.140 the Middle East or Africa are treated as second-class citizens is just not as a fact of the law. They are
00:07:55.180 treated much better than whites and Asians. Uh, there, there is one other system of structural racism
00:08:01.320 that gives an advantage to some people. That would be our open borders. So our open borders gives huge
00:08:07.300 immigration priority to Latin Americans, uh, instead of other groups from around the world. Again,
00:08:12.980 though, to non-white people. So her argument here, completely ridiculous. But then let's take the first
00:08:18.640 part seriously. She said all the United States does is destabilize other nations. The United States
00:08:22.820 has destabilized other nations. That's true. For instance, when Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton
00:08:28.160 decided to, uh, lead Libya into a revolution, that was probably a bad idea, but they did that. When,
00:08:34.680 when the United States under Obama and Clinton decided to destabilize Egypt by pulling their
00:08:40.040 support from our longtime ally, uh, not Muammar Gaddafi, uh, Hosni Mubarak, that was probably a
00:08:46.740 mistake. So it's true. The United States has destabilized a lot of parts of the world. Destabilized
00:08:51.860 Iraq under Saddam Hussein. Some people say that was a good thing to do, but nevertheless, certainly
00:08:56.560 destabilizing. Okay. Is that, first of all, is the United States the only country that does that?
00:09:02.440 Of course not. But second of all, is that all the United States does? See what, what Mia Khalifa here
00:09:08.840 is saying that is important for a discussion of political philosophy and never thought I'd say
00:09:14.460 that statement is the word all because it's a matter of framing. You remember the 1619 project
00:09:21.860 made up a bunch of stuff, right? The central thesis of the 1619 project at the New York Times is
00:09:26.780 that the American Revolution was fought to defend slavery. It's just not true. It's completely
00:09:30.440 fictitious, but whatever. The Times corrects that seven months later, as I write in my book,
00:09:36.420 Speechless. What the issue is, is not the fact so much as the framing. The 1619 project come out,
00:09:43.260 comes out and says, we want to reframe American history to put slavery at the center of it. And so
00:09:48.380 the lie here that Mia Khalifa is telling, at least in that first sentence, is not that
00:09:52.060 the United States destabilizes countries. We have, we've destabilized plenty of countries as
00:09:55.900 have many other countries. The lie is that that's all that we do. That's the center of the frame for,
00:10:02.540 for Mia Khalifa is that the United States is this force of evil that destabilizes countries and then
00:10:08.100 takes in refugees and treats them poorly, which is obviously that part is not true. But it's that
00:10:13.440 framing. That's what you've got to say. What is, are we celebrating America or are we not
00:10:17.580 celebrating America? Is the 4th of July even our independence day? There's some debate about that
00:10:22.280 now because we have a second national independence day. The Juneteenth holiday, which you might call
00:10:27.560 critical race theory day. I mean, the Juneteenth holiday, which was a, it was a local tradition in
00:10:32.060 Galveston, Texas. It became a national holiday because of these radical leftist race hustlers.
00:10:37.800 That is, those were the people who were pushing for it. That was the argument that they were giving
00:10:42.020 for the holiday on the floor of Congress. And it's in the very name, the national independence day of
00:10:48.540 Juneteenth in the bill that created this new federal holiday. When they tell you that, you've got to
00:10:54.340 believe them. This is coming to a school near you. The National Education Association, this is the
00:10:58.800 nation's largest teachers union, is pushing for critical race theory in all 50 states. The NEA president,
00:11:05.860 Becky Pringle, that can't be a real name. Becky Pringle says that we need to be committed
00:11:11.260 and the teachers specifically need to be committed to make statements in the media, quote, that support
00:11:19.340 racial honesty in education, including but not limited to critical race theory. Now, this is a
00:11:24.980 contradiction, she said. She said she wants to promote honesty when it comes to racial education.
00:11:30.760 And that includes critical race theory. Critical race theory is dishonest. Critical race theory is
00:11:36.780 not just talking about slavery. That's what they're now trying to do. But it's a specific
00:11:43.740 analytical lens that has its grounding in a Marxist understanding of the world, which I write
00:11:47.820 about in Speechless. Notice here, even beyond the effort to put CRT in schools, notice how they keep
00:11:55.180 shifting strategy. Initially, the left was defending critical race theory. Then you remember they shifted to
00:12:00.540 this theory of denying that critical race theory, or the strategy, rather, of denying critical race
00:12:04.880 theory exists. They said, what is critical race theory? Come on. Now they're back to defending it.
00:12:10.000 And it is terrible, and we got to fight it tooth and nail. And when you want to fight these things
00:12:13.920 tooth and nail, you need a good night's sleep. And that's why I strongly recommend Helix. Helix Sleep
00:12:17.980 has a quiz that takes just two minutes to complete, matches your body type and sleep preferences to the

00:13:25.540 of July has become so controversial because America has become so controversial that on
00:13:33.120 the fourth of July, National Public Radio, NPR, added a trigger warning to the Declaration
00:13:41.060 of Independence. The thing that our taxpayers support that is supposed to be our National
00:13:50.380 Public Radio, added on our nation's Independence Day, a trigger warning to warn people about reading
00:13:58.760 the founding document that we are celebrating on Independence Day, the Declaration of Independence.
00:14:05.820 Editors note, they write, this document contains a racist slur against indigenous people. It's referring
00:14:15.480 to this line, everyone knows we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal,
00:14:19.880 that they're endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights. Among these rights are the
00:14:23.380 rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, which is really misunderstood these
00:14:28.120 days. And people who are trying to upend our tradition of free speech in America, our tradition of
00:14:33.620 education in America, are misunderstanding what that means with regard to freedom of religion,
00:14:39.800 with regard to freedom of speech. We'll get into that later because Joe Biden is missing what that
00:14:43.580 means. But everyone remembers that part. You know, the Declaration goes on and it details specific
00:14:49.260 issues that the colonists have with King George. All right, they're not saying we're just going to
00:14:54.060 fight a revolution just to have a good time. We're going to fight a revolution because the king
00:14:58.520 insulted us once. They're detailing all of these insults that they believe would justify even a
00:15:04.340 revolution, which they're not taking lightly. And one of them is that the king has, quote,
00:15:10.480 endeavored to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian savages whose
00:15:16.800 known rule of warfare is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes, and conditions.
00:15:24.640 Important to remember, first of all, because the Indians were real people, they weren't subhuman,
00:15:30.360 that they did fight wars with the colonists. This was a real problem. And they did fight in ways that
00:15:37.060 were particularly brutal. Our word cannibal comes from the Carib Islanders. We didn't have a word for
00:15:44.780 cannibal before them. And the Iroquois and upstate New York practiced cannibalism and lots of other
00:15:49.200 things. Scalping attacks on women and children. This was real. This is not the whitewashing of
00:15:54.700 history and the propaganda. No, the only propaganda you're getting is the idea that the Native American
00:16:00.560 Indians were living in harmony, singing Kumbaya in drum circles before the evil white man got here.
00:16:05.360 It just wasn't true. There was vicious, vicious, barbaric warfare going on among the Indian tribes.
00:16:12.040 And the colonists had to deal with this. And one of the issues here is that King George was not
00:16:17.820 helping out very much. And this is a big problem. Now, NPR says you're not allowed to say that. Well,
00:16:26.100 what if they were behaving as merciless savages? You know what the word savage means? It derives from
00:16:31.720 the woods. It derives from like forests. And these Indian tribes were living in the woods.
00:16:37.680 It's an actual, a clinical term. All right, enough of defending the Declaration of Independence.
00:16:42.740 What the NPR is saying is, even if that's true, you're not allowed to say it because that's
00:16:46.740 offensive now. Even if this was integral to our history as a nation, we're not allowed to say that.
00:16:53.340 We're not allowed to. You've got to exercise caution when you're reading even the Declaration of
00:16:57.040 Independence. Proving Donald Trump right, once again, when he said they're not just coming after
00:17:02.040 Robert E. Lee, they're not just coming after Stonewall Jackson. They're coming after Washington.
00:17:07.580 They're coming after Jefferson. They're coming after the Declaration of Independence. The left is
00:17:11.100 coming after the whole country. And they're doing it largely through the schools. They're doing it
00:17:17.080 through all the institutions, but largely through the schools. They're trying to educate you,
00:17:20.680 indoctrinate you into hating your country. Enter David French. I've always had a perfectly fine
00:17:28.560 relationship with David French, even though he's a former Republican. He was considered a conservative
00:17:33.560 columnist. He might still consider himself a conservative columnist, but I think he's now
00:17:37.240 decidedly in the liberal category. But he sort of gives cover to the liberal regime. And very famously,
00:17:45.500 he defended drag queen story hours, one of the blessings of liberty in a debate with the
00:17:50.320 conservative, so Rab Amari. So David French has an article in the New York Times. And I can't,
00:17:55.880 it's not just David's article. It's Kamele Foster, David French, Jason Stanley, and Thomas Chatterton
00:18:03.240 Williams. This is four people writing one column. I think they took five words each. How many people
00:18:11.660 does it take to write a column? In the New York Times, who knows? Anti-critical race theory laws are
00:18:16.220 un-American, say the columnists. I won't read the whole thing because I just, I can't, I can't. We all
00:18:24.640 had a nice weekend and I can't voice that upon us. But it is important to understand the argument
00:18:29.120 they're making. They say, what is the purpose of a liberal education? This is the question at the
00:18:32.680 heart of a bitter debate that has been roiling the nation for months. Schools, particularly at the
00:18:36.940 kindergarten to 12th grade level, are responsible for helping turn students into well-informed and
00:18:40.980 discerning citizens. At their best, our nation's schools equip young minds to grapple with complexity
00:18:44.900 and navigate our differences. At their worst, they resemble indoctrination factories. Pause it right
00:18:49.060 there. Education and indoctrination mean the same thing. They derive from the same word. They just have
00:18:53.780 different connotations. Education, good. Indoctrination, bad. But either way, you're teaching
00:18:58.100 people stuff. And education is a coercive act. And liberal education, apparently these guys don't
00:19:03.740 understand that, but liberal education even is a coercive act. Because the point of liberal education
00:19:08.340 is to make sense of your liberty. And in order to do that, you need to tamp down your basest appetites
00:19:14.860 and you need to cultivate your higher virtues. And you need to unlearn things that are false and you
00:19:20.680 need to learn and practice things that are true. And you need to suppress things that are vicious and
00:19:27.500 you need to cultivate things that are virtuous. This is a bit of a paradox. It seems tricky because
00:19:35.020 we want to be free people and we want education to be liberated. But in order to cultivate our
00:19:41.520 virtues, we need to be coerced into that. But that coercion will then lead people to be free and then
00:19:48.700 to be able to think about greater complexity. So you have to be forced to learn that two plus two
00:19:53.580 equals four in order to have the freedom to understand more complex mathematics. You have
00:19:59.960 to be forced, rather, to learn the dates, 1776, 1620, 1860, on and on and on, in order to have the
00:20:09.480 freedom to think about the higher complex. And by the way, you have to be forced to learn the Ten
00:20:14.100 Commandments. You have to be forced to learn what they mean. You have to be forced to learn things in
00:20:18.160 ethics and philosophy and religion in order to then have the freedom to think and to act
00:20:23.760 at a higher level in all of these things. Okay. So they make one crucial error already.
00:20:31.220 They believe that a third grade classroom is a free marketplace of ideas. It's not.
00:20:35.440 It is an indoctrination factory. It has to be because students have to learn one thing. And when you learn
00:20:42.480 a thing, it excludes other things because the truth is arrogant. So there's that first little
00:20:47.620 slate of hand there. Get this out of your mind. A third grade classroom is not a free marketplace of
00:20:51.760 ideas. They say these initiatives that are going around are marketed as anti-critical race theory
00:20:55.940 laws. We, the authors of this essay, have wide ideological divergences on the explicit targets of
00:21:03.060 this education. They say, by the way, that the people who wrote this column, one's a conservative,
00:21:08.840 one's a libertarian, one's a moderate, one's a liberal, one's this, one's that. I don't see a
00:21:14.520 single conservative here. I don't, who is the conservative? None of these people, as far as I
00:21:21.580 can tell, is a conservative. But they go on and they say that this is why in the name of freedom,
00:21:27.380 in the name of free marketplace of ideas, in the name of academic freedom, we need to,
00:21:30.800 we need to teach CRT in schools. As you may have known, I just wrote a book that is making the exact
00:21:38.440 opposite case from what this very stupid New York Times column is making. I highly recommend you
00:21:45.000 read the book. I thank everybody who has read the book. You know, the book just on, I think it was
00:21:49.420 on Friday after we were off air, the book hit number one on all of Amazon. There was a little
00:21:54.580 bit of a controversy last week because our book outsold every other nonfiction book in the country.
00:21:59.920 By the way, no bulk sales, no cheating. This was all just people going out and buying books.
00:22:05.760 And the New York Times snubbed us, even though we had something like 40% higher sales
00:22:09.600 than the number one on their list that week. And we had many multiples of the sales that were lower
00:22:14.420 on that list. It's fine. Who cares about the New York Times? People went out and bought it. Then on
00:22:18.540 Friday, it became the number one book in the country. We beat Quentin Tarantino, his new book,
00:22:23.660 Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is this novel he had released last week, you know, from the movie.
00:22:28.660 We were beating that. Now, you know, we're still toward the top of the list, but you know, it's not number one
00:22:33.940 as of right now until you all go out and buy that book. This is very important because this debate is
00:22:39.780 going to define the right into the future. And I think it's going to define whether we want to win
00:22:43.880 or we want to lose. You have people who I think are pretty dishonest and at the very least terribly,
00:22:50.640 terribly naive. But I think it's a little worse than that even. They are making the argument that if
00:22:56.620 conservatives ever assert our political right, if parents ever, for instance, have a say about the
00:23:01.160 curriculum, if we ever observe that curricula are necessarily exclusive, if you teach one thing,
00:23:05.540 you're not going to teach the other thing. There's only so many weeks in the semester,
00:23:08.620 only so many books you can read, that if we just acknowledge those basic truths,
00:23:12.340 then we're somehow un-American. And, you know, there's nothing more American than Ibram Kendi and
00:23:16.660 Robin DiAngelo and tearing down statues of George Washington. It's false. It's a lie. There are court
00:23:22.100 jester conservatives who are upholding the liberal regime and pretending to try to conserve something.
00:23:29.160 They're not. You've got to, I mean, this may be the dumbest New York Times column I have read
00:23:34.520 in months, which is really, really saying something. So if you want the antidote to that
00:23:38.640 column, you can check out the book. And thanks to those of you who have already done it.
00:23:41.100 Not everyone hates America. We'll get into George Foreman in just a second. First though,
00:23:45.220 in a time when the prevailing narrative is an oppressive and evil America,
00:23:49.400 the Daily Wire is here to remind you that your long weekend of Independence Day celebrations was
00:23:55.400 made possible by the legends who sacrificed their own lives for the future of America. That is why
00:23:59.880 we started a new podcast called America's Forgotten Heroes, which boasts seven episodes
00:24:04.780 detailing the lives of seven brave men. Subscribe now to America's Forgotten Heroes on Apple Podcasts,
00:24:10.000 Spotify, or anywhere you might listen because the sixth episode is out today, Tuesday, July 6th. And
00:24:16.280 the last action-packed episode drops tomorrow, July 7th, for a total of seven episodes.
00:24:22.000 Too many heroes never receive the recognition they deserve. Sharing their stories with you this
00:24:27.060 Independence Day holiday was our small tribute to their heroism. If you like what you hear,
00:24:32.520 leave a five-star review, please, and help share these incredible stories. Thank you for listening.
00:24:36.200 Thank you to the heroes that made this terrific podcast. I really, really like this podcast,
00:24:40.340 who made it possible. We will be right back with a lot more.
00:24:55.840 Not everyone hates America. A lot of people hate America. Cori Bush, the Democrat congressman,
00:25:02.320 seems to hate America. The silly people who wrote in the New York Times defending critical race theory,
00:25:09.660 they definitely don't get America. I wonder what kind of vision of America they really want to have
00:25:16.860 going into the future. Mia Khalifa, the adult film store. She doesn't like America. I mean,
00:25:23.800 this is the whole culture. So much of the politics. You know who loves America? George Foreman,
00:25:30.160 the master of grilling, the Olympic gold medalist, the heavyweight champion boxer,
00:25:38.140 George Foreman, still loves America. He tweeted out, quote, for about 54 years, people have asked me
00:25:45.440 not to keep saying I love America. Well, I do, and I'm not ashamed. Don't leave it. Love it.
00:25:52.020 Happy Fourth of July. I really like that. This is still really powerful stuff. You know, I know people
00:26:01.440 are feeling a little down in the dumps about America right now because so many of our liberties
00:26:06.820 are being taken away. Our traditions are being upended. Our standards have been upended by the
00:26:11.460 radicals for the past 50 years or so, and we've been impotent on the right at fighting back because
00:26:16.320 we've misunderstood what it is because we read stupid columns in the New York Times,
00:26:20.820 like the one that defends critical race theory. But George Foreman says, now hold on, I still love
00:26:26.640 America. And it does remind me that when you see an American flag, generally speaking, you're looking
00:26:33.720 at a conservative, right? It didn't used to be that way. Both sides used to wave the American flag.
00:26:37.460 That is no longer true. And actually, there were some journalists who were reporting on that
00:26:41.600 this week. You know how much I hate to say I told you so on this show. Well, I've been saying it for a
00:26:46.100 while. I said, the American flag has become a partisan symbol because the left hates America,
00:26:50.160 so they hate the symbol of America, so they protest the symbol of America. And everyone told me, no,
00:26:54.120 that's crazy. You're misinterpreting it. It's wrong. They just, people are protesting police
00:26:57.980 brutality or whatever. That's why they're protesting the flag, which is the symbol of the whole country.
00:27:02.200 But I said, no, they just, they don't like America. They want to upend America, so they have
00:27:05.520 their own flags. They'll wave the rainbow flag. They have a new, it's like a new racial rainbow
00:27:11.520 transgender flag. It's called the progress flag. That's the flag. That's the flag of the liberal
00:27:16.780 empire or the, or the BLM flag. They'll wave that, but they're very unlikely to wave the American
00:27:22.100 flag. Well, George Foreman still waves the American flag. I still wave the American flag. American
00:27:27.360 patriots, I think, still wave that flag. There were some customers at Walmart just spontaneously
00:27:32.520 over the weekend broke out into song, singing our national anthem.
00:27:38.780 have a new include it.
00:27:45.780 It's .
00:27:47.780 The flag is ten ovum polu.
00:27:49.780 COLIN SAINT
00:27:59.780 R Glory
00:28:03.780 As the same old valiant way
00:28:11.860 O'er the land of the free
00:28:18.160 And the home of the brave
00:28:26.720 USA! USA!
00:28:31.780 It's a really beautiful scene.
00:28:33.560 People were tweeting this around, a lot of leftists, and saying,
00:28:37.640 what a weird country this is, how strange, how weird.
00:28:40.120 No, it's weird for you because you are a selfish narcissist.
00:28:46.760 If you find that weird, that says more about you than it does about the country
00:28:54.120 and about the people who are singing that.
00:28:56.060 It is natural and right to love your country as an extension of filial piety,
00:29:03.680 as the love that you have for your family.
00:29:05.040 A lot of people don't love their families very much, though, either, or respect their families.
00:29:08.400 They get rid of all of that for the cult of the individual.
00:29:13.500 People on the right do this as well.
00:29:14.780 It's much more common on the left, but people on the right have done this as well.
00:29:18.760 Both the left and the right have really made an idol out of the individual and maximizing individual autonomy.
00:29:24.080 The left has done it in the realm of sex, basically, in the social realm.
00:29:28.080 And the right has done it in the realm of economics and business, for instance.
00:29:32.100 But both are true.
00:29:34.040 And, you know, there is something to having a country where you have to care about your countrymen.
00:29:39.440 You have to care about history.
00:29:40.640 You have to care about posterity.
00:29:41.720 You have to sacrifice a little bit.
00:29:42.920 It's not all about you.
00:29:44.280 And those people in that Walmart who come in all shapes and sizes, multiracial, right?
00:29:52.720 There's no lens where the left can say, see, it's really, it's just white people, or it's just men, or it's just this, or it's, no.
00:30:00.780 The difference is those people love their country, and they're just ordinary Walmart shoppers.
00:30:07.700 And members of Congress cannot even be bothered to show a little respect for their country.
00:30:12.920 Wealthy pornographers cannot be bothered to show respect.
00:30:17.120 People who are very, very flamboyantly selfish.
00:30:22.360 And look, we all have a temptation toward pride and selfishness.
00:30:26.620 You've got to tamp that down.
00:30:28.040 And our nation's birthday is a good day to do that, to remember what you love about the country.
00:30:33.040 Zuckerberg proved it, by the way.
00:30:34.500 There was this very strange video of Zuckerberg going around the internet where he was, it's like, hoverboarding on a lake,
00:30:40.500 waving an American flag, and it looked, I mean, he just, he must have just woken up one day, and he was like,
00:30:48.080 what do, what do Americans do?
00:30:50.920 Siri, what do Americans do?
00:30:52.240 Okay, yes, I will wave a flag, and, I mean, it looked great.
00:30:57.860 It was an amazing video.
00:30:59.080 He still didn't quite look human, but it was a very cool video of him doing this hoverboard thing.
00:31:04.220 You know, you've got some great, nice background music to it, old John Denver.
00:31:09.900 There is a political lesson to learn from this.
00:31:11.700 Mark Zuckerberg is a very, very intelligent person.
00:31:14.740 I don't know about his views on the country.
00:31:16.740 I hope he likes the country, but I don't know.
00:31:18.860 I'm not venturing against one way or the other.
00:31:20.780 But what I do know is that Mark Zuckerberg thinks it is good for him to be seen waving the red, white, and blue.
00:31:26.440 That that symbol still has power, that despite what the Antifa people and the BLM people and the leftist people,
00:31:35.540 despite their ceaseless attacks on the Star Spangled Banner, that symbol still stirs the heart.
00:31:46.740 It still makes people think about what is good and right and true and just and beautiful.
00:31:52.800 And we should not surrender that symbol.
00:31:54.820 We should not abandon that.
00:31:56.540 It's still powerful.
00:31:57.680 Matthew McConaughey actually had some pretty good thoughts on this whole thing.
00:32:02.960 I can't believe I would say that because Matthew McConaughey has said some things recently politically that were just a little strange.
00:32:08.380 He appears to be wanting to angle to run for office at some point.
00:32:12.420 He's got this new book out, Green Lights, which, by the way, Speechless was a little higher on the charts than Green Lights for the past few days.
00:32:19.100 I don't know now where it is.
00:32:20.080 Maybe we've fallen behind again.
00:32:21.340 But I've heard people are enjoying that book.
00:32:24.820 McConaughey obviously has political ambitions.
00:32:26.940 And he had a really important point on how to think about what's going on, the riots in the streets burning down the country, the vitriol that's largely, almost exclusively, coming from the left, the politicization of every institution, that the feeling the conservatives have lost so much power.
00:32:45.940 Now we're arguing over Washington and Lincoln and Jefferson and the star-spangled banner.
00:32:51.100 McConaughey says the country is just going through puberty.
00:32:55.340 Happy birthday, America.
00:32:57.600 Yes, indeed.
00:32:58.320 Indeed, as we celebrate our independence today, as we celebrate our birth as a nation, a day that kick-started a revolution to gain our sovereignty, let's admit that this last year's trip around the sun was also another head-scratcher.
00:33:12.400 But let's also remember that we are babies.
00:33:17.320 You know, as a country, we are basically going through puberty in comparison to other countries' timelines.
00:33:24.040 And we're going to go through growing pains.
00:33:25.520 We are going through growing pains.
00:33:27.180 This is not an excuse to say this.
00:33:28.800 This is just a reality.
00:33:29.620 And this is good because we've got to keep learning.
00:33:33.560 We've got to keep maturing.
00:33:35.080 We've got to keep striving.
00:33:36.040 We've got to keep climbing.
00:33:37.180 We've got to keep building.
00:33:39.500 And we've got to make sure we maintain hope along the way as we continue to evolve.
00:33:43.540 Why?
00:33:43.860 Because it's who we are.
00:33:45.360 Why?
00:33:45.720 Because the alternative sucks.
00:33:48.740 Okay, so then he goes on, and it's kind of just platitudinous nonsense about progress and evolve, man.
00:33:54.520 You know, all right, all right, all right.
00:33:55.980 But the first part is actually really smart.
00:33:59.900 McConaughey is saying, this is a young country, and we're going through puberty.
00:34:03.460 And that is certainly true.
00:34:05.980 And conservatives sometimes get a little nostalgic, okay, and we cling to the past.
00:34:10.900 As my friend Father George Rutler says, nostalgia is history after a few drinks.
00:34:16.820 And as my dead friend, I think we would have been friends had I met him.
00:34:20.140 I hope I meet him someday.
00:34:22.020 Chesterton famously says, when you leave a white fence,
00:34:28.340 just, you leave it.
00:34:30.960 You leave it out in the middle of nowhere.
00:34:32.180 You go away.
00:34:32.900 When you come back, it will not be a white fence any longer.
00:34:35.980 There will be dirt.
00:34:37.020 There will be bugs.
00:34:37.940 There will be stuff all over it.
00:34:39.240 Because you don't leave it in stasis.
00:34:40.900 You leave it in a torrent of change.
00:34:43.040 The thing that is constant is change.
00:34:46.060 There is no such thing as stasis in this world.
00:34:48.580 And so when we pine for this time of 1776, we're pining for something that we can never
00:34:55.640 go back to.
00:34:56.240 None of us would actually want to go back then.
00:34:58.120 No one actually wants to live outside of his own time because our time has in some ways
00:35:02.820 shaped us.
00:35:03.440 And so we are suited for the time that we are in, uniquely suited for this time that
00:35:08.300 we're in.
00:35:09.180 And we need to do something with that.
00:35:11.600 We are very, very young as a country.
00:35:15.000 250 years old, just about.
00:35:17.700 So what is our narrative going to be?
00:35:20.260 The narrative was not settled 20 years ago, 50 years ago, 60 years ago, 100 years ago.
00:35:25.780 It is still settling now.
00:35:27.140 And the left understands this.
00:35:28.580 The left understands the power of narrative.
00:35:29.940 So they are trying to shape what the narrative of our country is in order to destroy the
00:35:33.620 country.
00:35:33.960 They're trying to say the country is essentially evil and everyone who made it is evil.
00:35:37.100 And so we've got to just knock down their statues and clear it away so we can re-found
00:35:40.040 a country along our lines.
00:35:42.020 We obviously have to push back against that, but we need to offer a different narrative.
00:35:45.840 And it's not just going to say, keep the statues up.
00:35:48.000 Yeah, we want to keep the statues up.
00:35:49.320 But what are we offering?
00:35:50.440 What is our substantive vision?
00:35:52.260 It's the point I've hammered home for some time now.
00:35:55.700 It's not enough just to argue about procedure.
00:35:58.140 It's not enough just to argue about form and to say, for instance, I defend free speech
00:36:03.020 in the abstract.
00:36:03.800 No, you've got to have something to say.
00:36:05.720 You've got to recognize there will be standards.
00:36:07.840 There will be a narrative.
00:36:09.240 There will be taboos.
00:36:10.840 What are they going to be?
00:36:12.200 What do we think is good?
00:36:14.620 Are we willing to promote what we think is good?
00:36:16.680 Are we willing to suppress what we think is bad?
00:36:19.180 We have to.
00:36:19.900 That's how culture works.
00:36:21.360 It's inevitable.
00:36:22.140 But we so far have not really had the courage to do it over the past 15, 20 years.
00:36:26.080 And if you read dumb columns like this CRT one in the New York Times, then you're not
00:36:31.640 going to have the courage to do it ever.
00:36:34.160 Are we really willing to say this is true and suppress things that are false?
00:36:39.020 I hope so.
00:36:40.000 I think that's the only way that we're ever going to be able to fight back at all.
00:36:44.180 I mean, we've uniformly, ceaselessly lost over the past 20 years that the left duped us
00:36:49.640 into falling for their trap.
00:36:51.740 And they're setting the narrative.
00:36:52.780 We need to set the narrative.
00:36:53.740 Those sweltering summer nights that leave you tossing and turning, desperately kicking
00:36:57.040 off the covers, don't have to ruin your sleep.

00:37:24.140 Look what's going on.
00:37:24.880 There's a report from Entertainment Insider right now.
00:37:27.520 There is a campaign to cram a lot of LGBT, transgender, radical sexual ideology into children's programming.
00:37:39.580 This is not just an organic movement.
00:37:42.260 You know, we've covered it, the bizarre drag queens on Nickelodeon and all this kind of crazy stuff.
00:37:47.940 We've been covering it, but it's not just organic.
00:37:51.800 It's not just happening by accident.
00:37:54.760 Entertainment Insider points out there is an overt campaign to instill queer themes and elements of LGBTQ culture into these shows.
00:38:05.620 There are, according to the Insider, 259 LGBTQ characters in mainstream children's programming today.
00:38:19.040 That's weird.
00:38:19.960 I'm not saying you can't have like a gay character or something.
00:38:23.380 I'm pointing out it's very strange how disproportionate the representation is here.
00:38:30.780 There are, how many characters are there in kids' shows?
00:38:33.700 I don't think there are that many.
00:38:34.480 How are there hundreds and hundreds of characters who are going along with transgenderism?
00:38:39.220 That's just weird.
00:38:40.440 That doesn't reflect reality, which is the argument that very often you'll hear people who are promoting radical sex ideology in schools or critical race theory in schools.
00:38:49.840 They'll say, well, we just want to expose children to reality and show them, you know, but this isn't reality.
00:38:55.300 What are you talking about?
00:38:55.920 Drag Queen Story Hour isn't reality.
00:38:58.820 This is a very strange niche sexual fetish that some people have.
00:39:02.600 Why are you now presenting this in as many public libraries and schools as you possibly can?
00:39:07.800 Why are you putting this all over children's programming?
00:39:11.040 Critical race theory isn't reality.
00:39:12.480 Critical race theory denies reality, for goodness sakes.
00:39:15.100 Why are you putting that in schools?
00:39:17.820 Because you're trying to transform reality.
00:39:20.240 You're trying to redefine reality.
00:39:22.660 This has been the campaign of the left for a very, very long time.
00:39:27.460 This is, in part, using GLAAD.
00:39:31.460 GLAAD is one of the LGBT organizations in the country.
00:39:36.460 By the way, not even the most radical.
00:39:38.180 The most radical, I think, goes to the Human Rights Campaign, ridiculously named Human Rights Campaign.
00:39:43.620 I mean, they're the ones that really successfully redefine marriage.
00:39:47.160 But you have, for instance, one showbiz type.
00:39:52.280 His name is Petoskey.
00:39:53.880 He says, I had to fight with the help of GLAAD to get the actual word pride in a script,
00:39:59.020 instead of it being called Rainbow Parade or something like that.
00:40:01.780 He had to fight.
00:40:02.380 He had to go in, in writer's rooms.
00:40:04.400 There are these people who are campaigning to get this ideology in there.
00:40:08.220 They're campaigning to get this ideology into schools.
00:40:11.080 We need to fight back.
00:40:12.180 There is nothing American about permitting radicals to upend the whole culture.
00:40:17.780 Conservatives used to know this.
00:40:19.100 William F. Buckley Jr. launched his career on a book talking about how insane it is to allow radicals to do this sort of thing in schools.
00:40:27.320 Now we've forgotten that because of the squishes and the court jester conservatives who have outrageously claimed the mantle of conservatism to undermine that tradition.
00:40:37.760 Is that America?
00:40:38.600 No, if that's America, then something's gone seriously wrong.
00:40:42.260 We need to reclaim an older tradition.
00:40:44.000 A lot of people don't know what America is.
00:40:45.700 Joe Biden just made this statement.
00:40:47.620 Joe Biden came out.
00:40:48.280 He said, it's impossible to define what America is.
00:40:52.920 I've often said that America is the only nation in the world founded on an idea.
00:41:00.900 Every other nation in the world is founded on base of either that geography or ethnicity or religion.
00:41:10.520 You can define almost everyone else based on those characteristics, but you can't define an American.
00:41:19.460 I defy you to tell me what constitutes an American.
00:41:22.560 You can't do it.
00:41:26.380 We're an incredibly diverse democracy.
00:41:29.560 But there is one thing that does define us as a country.
00:41:34.540 We're founded on an idea that we hold these truths to be self-evident.
00:41:40.640 But all men and women are created equal, endowed by their creating with certain inalienable rights.
00:41:46.400 Pause it right there.
00:41:47.660 Did you catch the contradiction?
00:41:50.000 I bet a lot of people didn't catch the contradiction.
00:41:51.700 I mean, you, you, the listener, I'm sure did.
00:41:54.040 But a lot of people listening to Joe Biden's droning half-asleep speech probably did not.
00:41:59.980 He said, you can't define Americans by their religion.
00:42:04.320 You can't.
00:42:04.780 You can't.
00:42:05.320 I defy you to define an American by his religion.
00:42:09.820 No, it's defined by an idea that all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights.
00:42:17.980 Uh, hold on.
00:42:20.480 Sounds kind of religious to me.
00:42:23.000 You know, what is, what are religions?
00:42:24.600 Religions have ideas.
00:42:26.300 They make certain claims.
00:42:28.360 About history, perhaps.
00:42:29.780 About the, the world.
00:42:31.780 About ideas.
00:42:32.740 About what, what this whole world is.
00:42:34.940 Who we are in relation to the world.
00:42:37.940 America, first of all, America is not just an idea.
00:42:41.020 America has a creedal aspect to her character.
00:42:43.200 But it's not just an idea.
00:42:44.080 It's also geography.
00:42:44.940 It's also specific people.
00:42:46.340 It's also, like, things that have happened.
00:42:49.420 You know, it's also the sea to shining sea and the great plains and all these things.
00:42:55.600 But there is a creedal aspect to her character.
00:42:58.280 And that creedal aspect is a religious idea that, by definition, excludes other ideas.
00:43:03.900 If our country is founded on the idea that all men are created equal and endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights, then America excludes atheism.
00:43:14.000 It excludes it.
00:43:14.920 It's not part of the American idea.
00:43:16.500 If you are a militant, diehard atheist, we need to get religion out of all aspects of public life, you are anti-American.
00:43:27.340 I'm sorry to tell you that.
00:43:28.600 If you are one, I'm not saying if you're one of these amiable sort of agnostic types who just says, ah, whatever, I don't really.
00:43:33.080 I'm saying if you are knocked down the Ten Commandments at the courthouses kind of atheist, you're anti-American, according to Joe Biden's own logic, because America was founded on an idea, right?
00:43:43.540 And the idea is a religious idea that God endowed us with rights.
00:43:47.940 So that, yeah, I can at least define an American in that way.
00:43:53.700 Well, what is an American?
00:43:55.140 Not bound by race?
00:43:57.200 Well, that's true.
00:43:57.900 I mean, there were, you know, you can trace racial groups in the country.
00:44:00.680 It was settled by Englishmen, right?
00:44:02.680 That's just a fact of history.
00:44:04.680 America was settled by Englishmen.
00:44:07.960 Then, you know, some Irish came in.
00:44:10.480 Then some, you know, you'd say there were obviously African slaves brought over, but they were not considered citizens for quite a long time.
00:44:17.220 There was a bloody civil war to resolve that problem.
00:44:19.960 Then you had some waves of migration.
00:44:23.700 And then you tamped down on migration.
00:44:25.000 We had effectively closed borders for a long time.
00:44:27.560 So, yeah, you can kind of trace these things.
00:44:30.020 Well, what binds us together then?
00:44:32.120 One, that religious idea.
00:44:34.500 How about language?
00:44:37.020 Increasingly, we speak other languages in this country.
00:44:39.740 But we speak English, right?
00:44:41.460 It's all our documents are written in English.
00:44:42.940 All our founding documents are written in English.
00:44:44.860 We speak English on the street.
00:44:47.000 So that binds us together.
00:44:48.260 If you don't speak English, better learn it.
00:44:50.920 Because America speaks English for now.
00:44:53.980 And we should.
00:44:54.920 We're going to speak one language or another.
00:44:56.700 Words are necessarily exclusive and discriminatory.
00:44:59.600 They discern one thing from another.
00:45:00.980 So you better learn it.
00:45:02.300 And if you can't speak English, you are putting yourself outside of the American tradition.
00:45:06.840 Freedom requires limits, as I have said many, many times.
00:45:12.980 Now, Joe Biden doesn't understand that.
00:45:14.420 And he's just given us his two cents.
00:45:15.540 He's actually given us his 16 cents.
00:45:18.300 The Biden administration actually bragged.
00:45:21.000 I'm not joking, actually bragged that the cost of a 4th of July cookout is down this year.
00:45:31.000 I said, because thanks to the policies of Joe Biden, the cost of a 4th of July cookout is down.
00:45:37.460 You know how much?
00:45:39.600 16 cents.
00:45:41.080 They put this, the White House social media accounts put out a graphic that said the cost
00:45:46.360 of a 4th of July cookout in 2021 is down 16 cents from last year.
00:45:52.160 Gas is through the roof, by the way.
00:45:54.180 But even if it were, even if, even if you actually had, what is that to brag about?
00:45:59.120 That's the best they could come up with.
00:46:01.400 Because the country is doing much, much worse under Joe Biden.
00:46:05.520 That's it.
00:46:06.040 And it's not even just the money, by the way.
00:46:08.180 You know, obviously I want our economy to thrive.
00:46:10.340 I want people to be able to be doing well and support their families.
00:46:13.580 But there's more to it.
00:46:14.780 And this is a mistake the right has made.
00:46:17.040 By focusing exclusively on economic matters, on plugging GDP up, you know, for any and all
00:46:25.340 excuses to do that, without any question about the wisdom of that, whether we ship jobs overseas,
00:46:31.880 whether we completely open up the border, it's totally fine.
00:46:33.740 There are cultural issues here that matter too.
00:46:36.860 Even when the cultural conservatives say politics is downstream of culture.
00:46:40.100 Well, okay, then there's more to life than 16 cents.
00:46:43.180 I think, I think that's true.
00:46:45.340 There's more, the question is, who are we as a country?
00:46:48.300 A country is going to be defined not by its expansiveness, but by its limits.
00:46:54.360 No matter how expansive the country is, no matter how broad-minded the country is,
00:46:57.760 whether it's very narrow-minded, very broad-minded, the thing that will define it will be the limits.
00:47:02.440 A nation is defined by its borders.
00:47:03.920 A culture is defined by the borders of what it believes, what it thinks about itself, what it says.
00:47:11.420 This is why speech is so fundamental.
00:47:13.500 I think this is why the book hit number one on Amazon.
00:47:15.940 Why my book, Speechless Controlling Words, Controlling Minds, hit number one.
00:47:18.140 It's because, it's not just, you know, I think the book is really terrific,
00:47:21.000 but I think it's because we know that this issue is what's at stake here.
00:47:23.940 This issue is going to define the country.
00:47:28.280 What is it that we say?
00:47:30.500 What is it that we believe?
00:47:31.620 What is it that we're celebrating on the 4th of July for those of us who celebrate it?
