00:00:00.000 Hey guys, Wyatt Claypool here. I don't know what it is about Canada, but we have an epidemic across the country of having some of the worst mayors on the planet who somehow have the ability to get re-elected.
00:00:16.260 I need to show you a startling poll out of Toronto. This is a Toronto mayoral poll. It currently rates the race in next year's mayoral election at 37% Olivia Chow, 24% John Tory, 14% Brad Bradford, 11% Marco Mendocino, and 15% of people say other.
00:00:41.280 My goodness, 90% of people should say other. All of these are bad candidates. Somehow Marco Mendocino is like the least bad of them, but 37% of people still think Olivia Chow is doing a good enough job that she deserves to be re-elected.
00:00:59.940 And then they're also going to bring back potentially John Tory, who I heard may run in the race. I guess Toronto wants to be like New York City, where they have a terrible progressive mayor, and then they have an old corrupt mayor coming back to run.
00:01:15.700 Because, you know, you have Andrew Cuomo, the former governor of New York, now running to be mayor. You have Eric Adams running as an independent. And then you have that Mondani guy running in the Democratic primary against Cuomo, who's a complete nutcase.
00:01:27.580 And Toronto wants in on that. So they have put together their own slate of the worst possible options you've ever seen.
00:01:34.780 Do you know who's running for re-election as mayor as well in Canada? Jodi Gondek, my mayor in the city of Calgary, is going to run for re-election. Do you know what that woman's approval rating is? 26%.
00:01:51.840 She has a 26% approval rating, and she's going to go for it, because this is her year again.
00:01:59.960 And the thing is, there's a chance people may re-elect her. Because at the same time, Canadians will complain about the current state of the country.
00:02:07.700 I just saw a poll out yesterday showing that a majority of Canadians agree that the country in many ways is broken.
00:02:15.140 But they'll still re-elect the same people who are in the middle of breaking it.
00:02:19.380 Like, you enter their office, and they're just hitting things with a hammer.
00:02:22.620 And we're like, my goodness, the country's broken. Can you do something about it?
00:02:26.200 And the person takes a break from hitting things with a hammer. We're like, yeah, I'll get on to that.
00:02:29.960 And then they just keep smashing stuff. It's like, guys, stop re-electing these people.
00:02:34.580 And do you know how we stop re-electing these people? We find someone actually good to run.
00:02:39.440 It is depressing looking at the Calgary mayoral election, because while I really like Sonia Sharp, and I think she could make a good mayor,
00:02:48.020 there are so many people running who have the possibility of splitting some conservative votes who are not conservative at all.
00:02:56.020 I just want to quickly make a plug, guys. If you live in the city of Calgary, I have it in the description of this video,
00:03:01.460 as well as pinned at the top of the comments. Please register early for a Sonia Sharp for mayor sign.
00:03:06.600 Please do that, because we need to make sure we muscle out all of these fake conservatives from the race.
00:03:11.280 Because Sonia Sharp may not be perfect, but she's actually wanting to cut taxes.
00:03:15.200 That is, like, the one thing anyone running for mayor should be doing.
00:03:18.980 She's good on some other issues as well, of course, but she'll actually cut taxes.
00:03:23.180 The other two conservatives in the race, Jeremy Farkas and Jeff Davison, are not planning on cutting taxes.
00:03:29.080 They have this weaselly thing where they say, we need to spend our money more efficiently.
00:03:34.100 We need to freeze tax increases. That doesn't mean that they're not actually going to increase your taxes.
00:03:39.360 That just means the property tax rate isn't going to go up, but they'll just reevaluate your home as a higher price
00:03:45.340 so that you actually still owe money anyways because your house is worth more, even though it's just purely from market pressures.
00:03:51.760 I hate this stuff.
00:03:53.320 So, yeah, guys, if you're in Calgary, please go get a law and sign.
00:03:56.440 It is very important that we muscle out all these fakes from the race so we can actually have a chance of getting rid of Jody Gondek.
00:04:04.040 Even at this point, I don't think Jeremy Farkas would be any better.
00:04:07.060 Look at Jeremy Farkas's website.
00:04:09.320 Apparently, he's currently the frontrunner.
00:04:11.440 At the same time, mayoral polling doesn't mean as much this early because really mayoral polling,
00:04:17.600 when there isn't a campaign underway, just says, do you know the person's name or do you not?
00:04:22.880 In fact, Jody Gondek was probably only the third most well-known person running for mayor in 2021,
00:04:28.040 and she ended up smashing Jeremy Farkas and Jeff Davison, who are both running again for some reason
00:04:33.320 because they ran bad campaigns, and it looks like both of them are running bad campaigns again.
00:04:38.140 Look at this.
00:04:38.800 So I'm just going to go down, and there's just some generic nonsense about Jeremy's a guy,
00:04:43.080 and he has a face, and he's lived in the city for a while, and he's grown over the past 10 years.
00:04:47.940 Look at this.
00:04:49.220 There's nothing here about cutting taxes.
00:04:52.020 There's a household you can afford, and they want to unlock more affordable housing options,
00:04:56.040 and we're going to cut red tape on whatnot.
00:04:57.960 That's good.
00:04:58.560 But you know what actually make housing cheaper?
00:05:02.400 That's a very easy thing you should be doing.
00:05:04.720 Cutting taxes.
00:05:05.920 And there's just jobs you can count on.
00:05:09.300 Okay, well, he's going to – I will champion responsible spending.
00:05:13.640 What does that mean, dude?
00:05:16.120 Are you going to cut spending because we spend too much?
00:05:18.480 There's no way of making the current level of spending responsible.
00:05:22.100 The current amount of money that we spend is irresponsible.
00:05:25.100 It doesn't matter where you put the money.
00:05:26.800 You have something here about safe streets.
00:05:29.080 That's, you know, obviously.
00:05:30.760 But I will be tough on the causes of crime and crime itself.
00:05:35.820 That, to me, is insane.
00:05:38.200 That is signaling left-wing nonsense.
00:05:40.220 I will be tough on the causes of crime.
00:05:43.980 Do you know what the causes of crime are?
00:05:45.720 Not to be pedantic.
00:05:47.400 It's criminals.
00:05:48.760 You need to lock up criminals and not let them out on bail.
00:05:52.000 And that's not really something the municipal government can exactly do.
00:05:56.200 It's most – you know, the blame here is mostly on the federal government than a little bit on the provincial government.
00:06:01.960 So municipally, really what you can do is just, like, double the patrols on the streets.
00:06:05.780 Put cops on transit systems, which I have the idea that Sonia Sharp is actually in favor of putting cops directly on C-trains and bus terminals to make sure we can actually clean up the crap rather than just, you know – you can't just put some more patrol cars.
00:06:22.400 You need to have cops on the transit system to prevent people from using drugs and, you know, stealing and mugging people.
00:06:30.180 You have to put them on the train so the train stopped being a getaway vehicle for criminals.
00:06:34.000 I know.
00:06:34.460 I used to work at a liquor store.
00:06:35.880 That was their getaway vehicle across the street on the train.
00:06:38.760 And the transit police would always show up 30 minutes late because they're not there.
00:06:43.060 And they literally have to be on the train if you're going to prevent people from using it.
00:06:46.420 Here's the other guy who's supposedly conservative.
00:06:49.480 We have Jeff Davison here.
00:06:50.580 Meet Jeff Davison, Calgary's next mayor, despite the fact the guy got absolutely washed in 2021, got, like, 14% of the vote.
00:06:58.560 No, no, no.
00:06:58.940 This is his year, guy.
00:07:00.340 He's learned nothing, and now he's going to win.
00:07:03.120 And there's just a bunch of pablum here.
00:07:05.380 Look at this.
00:07:07.000 Land acknowledgment.
00:07:08.880 He has a badly formatted land acknowledgment on his website.
00:07:12.000 This is a conservative candidate, guys.
00:07:14.860 In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge that we live, work, play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot,
00:07:20.540 Confederacy, Siksika, Kainai, Pakani, and then just keeps going.
00:07:24.420 Why do we have this?
00:07:26.640 What is this?
00:07:28.080 And he's another person where if you, like, where is this?
00:07:33.400 Is this the about Jeff session?
00:07:34.920 I'm trying to find where he actually has his policies.
00:07:37.840 I've seen it.
00:07:38.800 There's, like, nothing there.
00:07:39.700 Um, yeah, like, affordability.
00:07:45.180 Implement a four-year property tax freeze to relieve financial stress.
00:07:50.760 No.
00:07:51.800 Cut taxes.
00:07:53.520 Taxes were too high years ago.
00:07:56.580 Like, a decade ago, taxes were too high.
00:07:59.040 Property tax rates.
00:08:00.220 You ought to lower the rate.
00:08:01.780 Because, again, people's house prices keep going up.
00:08:04.800 So if you keep the property tax rate steady, taxes are still going to go up every year.
00:08:10.520 And also, I don't believe Jeff.
00:08:12.440 This is becoming a very Calgary-centric video.
00:08:15.000 So sorry about that, guys.
00:08:16.080 But I am going to cover the mayoral race in Toronto next year when it heats up.
00:08:19.860 I'm definitely going to be covering municipal races around Calgary.
00:08:22.820 But, look, Jeff Davison, when he was on council, voted for every tax increase that happened.
00:08:29.220 Do I believe he's not going to increase taxes?
00:08:31.100 Of course he is.
00:08:32.140 He maybe will find backwards ways of increasing taxes by not increasing the rate.
00:08:37.620 But he's going to do that.
00:08:38.860 Also, another thing, he voted to defund the police in 2020.
00:08:42.580 That is something Jeff Davison actually did.
00:08:45.360 And I know Sonia Sharp, I think she voted for the climate emergency thing that Jody Gondek
00:08:50.280 had pushed in when she first got into office.
00:08:53.060 At the same time, I think she's, I believe, I remember, she actually said that that was a mistake.
00:08:57.420 And if that's her low point, fair enough.
00:08:59.600 It was early on, and since then, this has actually been a point of opposing things like blanket rezoning
00:09:03.500 and pushing for tax cuts and is running on it.
00:09:06.300 And that's way better than anyone else.
00:09:08.340 But this is the problem.
00:09:09.500 We have Jody Gondek, a nutcase progressive, a zealot.
00:09:12.980 And then we have this other guy, Brian Thiessen, who's just another progressive pretending to be,
00:09:17.960 you know, I'm a responsible man who's going to be responsible with our spending.
00:09:22.900 It's always responsibility.
00:09:24.240 There's never the thing they're going to do.
00:09:25.840 It's just, I'm going to be super responsible.
00:09:27.660 I'm going to get in there and be just the most responsible.
00:09:30.500 I'm going to be a John T. responsibility in there.
00:09:34.240 Just let me have all the power, and I vaguely promise to do something responsible,
00:09:38.760 which you really can't grade me on because that means nothing.
00:09:41.600 And then you have Jeff Davison and Jeremy Farkas, who are running on nothing but land acknowledgements,
00:09:49.140 and I'm going to freeze your taxes.
00:09:50.740 Even Jody Gondek ran on a tax freeze in 21, and now you're stealing her lines.
00:09:56.400 And again, none of these guys have the records to say that they're actually conservative.
00:09:59.580 Jeremy Farkas used to be conservative and has since the last mayoral election become this weirdo progressive
00:10:05.540 where he's not only is he not really that fiscally conservative anymore,
00:10:09.680 but he's just a full-on progressive on every single other issue.
00:10:12.380 Like, he has some weird, like, chip on his shoulder about conservatives in the UCP,
00:10:17.220 and so now he's gotten very pro-NDP and made up with Nakhid Nenshi and whatnot.
00:10:21.820 It's like, okay, you shouldn't be mayor then.
00:10:24.820 You have no instincts.
00:10:26.100 The man needs to be mayor.
00:10:27.460 Sometimes someone who needs to be elected is the worst person you can have.
00:10:31.780 Jeff Davison and Jeremy Farkas running again after getting, again, clobbered in 2021 is embarrassing already.
00:10:39.620 And then you have Gondek running with a 26% approval rating.
00:10:42.480 This Brian Thiessen guy who's basically just going to probably be the union front group guy.
00:10:47.540 And then, like, this is why I'm backing Sonia, because all these other people just suck.
00:10:53.220 Just wall-to-wall are trash.
00:10:55.260 And I think that the thing we need to do as conservatives across the country is find an actual conservative person in the race early who can win,
00:11:03.240 not just some guy who puts some good things on his website, but there's nothing to actually say he's even trying.
00:11:08.160 Find someone early and jam as much support into that person as possible, because I find conservatives start, like,
00:11:14.580 oh, well, let's see who distinguishes themselves.
00:11:17.880 And, like, people don't decide who to get behind.
00:11:20.520 Get behind someone early.
00:11:22.300 Stick with them.
00:11:23.160 Get a sign.
00:11:24.700 Volunteer.
00:11:25.260 And make sure you box out all of the pretenders.
00:11:28.000 That was kind of the problem in Toronto last time.
00:11:30.400 Anthony Fury was pretty good.
00:11:32.300 Or I think, yeah, Anthony Fury was a pretty good candidate.
00:11:35.280 But I think he got in too late.
00:11:37.140 There was too many other also-ran conservatives.
00:11:39.200 You've got to be running, like, a year in advance.
00:11:41.900 It was a by-election.
00:11:43.200 I can understand Anthony Fury didn't have enough time to really kind of distinguish himself.
00:11:47.180 But this next year, if Anthony Fury's going to run, he's got to run now.
00:11:50.960 If he's not in the race now, then he's not going to win.
00:11:54.520 All these other people, like, if the old police chief wants to run again, he's got to be running now.
00:12:00.760 Now, even John Tory, who's not even good, but I guess he's better than Olivia Chow, if he doesn't get to the race by, like, the fall for 2027, you're not winning.
00:12:11.120 You're not going to win.
00:12:13.520 You need to be in the race before 2026 if you were going to take on Olivia Chow, because she's awful.
00:12:19.320 At the same time, shockingly, she actually has a good approval rating, like, relatively.
00:12:23.780 Look at this.
00:12:24.900 This makes my stomach turn.
00:12:27.100 The Leger survey asked Toronto residents about their mayor as part of a broader poll on Ontario politics.
00:12:34.000 Respondents were almost evenly split over Chow's handling of municipal affairs as she nears the end of her second term at the helm of Canada's largest city.
00:12:41.640 Slightly less than half, 48% of people, strongly or somewhat approve of her performance.
00:12:46.480 That is like a fake number.
00:12:49.340 I don't even doubt it's real, but it still feels fake.
00:12:52.420 48% of people think this nutcase is doing a good job.
00:12:56.320 Only 42% strongly or somewhat disapprove.
00:12:59.300 What is in the water in Toronto and even Calgary that makes people think, you know, let's give them another chance?
00:13:06.460 At least in Calgary, people hate Gondek, but, like, do not underestimate people's ability to show up and still vote for her.
00:13:14.020 Oh, okay.
00:13:15.460 Woof.
00:13:16.560 Terrible political news there.
00:13:18.540 At least, guys, if you learn Calgary, again, get a Sonia Sharp sign.
00:13:22.040 I don't work for her campaign.
00:13:23.760 That's not why I ever push candidates.
00:13:25.700 I push candidates because I think they're going to be the best possible option in any given race.
00:13:30.600 If you live in Calgary, please get a law on sign.
00:13:32.780 Put it up even early.
00:13:34.260 Make sure that people know that there is no chance you're voting for Jeremy and Jeff so that people start consolidating behind someone who, if they win, will actually do something good.
00:13:42.680 If Jeff Davison or Jeremy Farkas even won, they wouldn't reverse anything Gondek was doing because there's nothing on their website to indicate they would do it.
00:13:50.680 Their website could have just been Gondek's website copy and pasted with their faces on it.
00:13:55.280 What do you think Gondek's going to run on?
00:13:56.840 The fact she likes crime?
00:13:58.380 No.
00:13:58.680 She's going to say the same generic crap as them.
00:14:01.280 So, like, you know, people need to put their money where their mouths are.
00:14:04.660 If someone's not committing to cutting taxes, don't think that they're going to be fiscally responsible.
00:14:09.120 The thing is that oftentimes politicians only deliver on, like, you know, half of the things they said.
00:14:14.460 But if the guy's saying nothing, you have no excuse when he starts doing the worst things possible because he didn't even promise you anything.
00:14:22.100 And he's going to take advantage of that fact.
00:14:24.620 Anyways, but that should be it for me today, guys.
00:14:27.140 If you like this video, if you like me in general, make sure to drop a like on the video.

00:14:36.180 Who's your mayor?
00:14:37.020 Do you like them?
00:14:37.980 Are they going to get reelected despite sucking at their jobs?
00:14:41.000 You let me know in the comment section below.
