00:00:00.000 It's very clear that Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberal government have put Canada on
00:00:05.640 the losing side of the trade agreement they're about to sign with President Donald Trump and
00:00:09.980 the Americans, because while Trump officials are beaming with pride over what they're about to
00:00:15.120 sign, Canadian officials, Prime Minister Mark Carney, and many of the premiers do not look
00:00:21.540 happy. They're withholding details, and in the case of Doug Ford, they're just avoiding the media
00:00:27.680 entirely. I'm not even sure where that guy is. I don't think anyone's seen him or heard a comment
00:00:32.860 from him on trade over the past 48 hours. Check out this clip of President Donald Trump talking
00:00:39.720 about the deal. And then I want to contrast that with the crushing silence from everybody on the
00:00:46.040 Canadian side. The president declaring victory. Yeah, we had a very good conversation with the
00:00:52.480 prime minister last night and we've come to a deal with Canada. A deal the prime minister says
00:00:57.680 still requires work to be officially completed but a source with direct knowledge of the talks
00:01:01.780 has laid out its framework to global news. The Americans are set to cut current steel,
00:01:06.380 aluminum and auto tariffs on Canada but softwood lumber is unlikely to get a cut. Details on the
00:01:11.620 exact reductions aren't clear but Donald Trump did confirm it would take place. We may bring
00:01:16.220 some of the tariffs down to a level where other countries are because Canada was paying a higher
00:01:20.860 tariff negotiations are continuing with canada's chief negotiators staying in dc for talks
00:01:25.660 particularly on autos what level new auto tariffs will land at and what they specifically will apply
00:01:31.260 to is still being decided auto industry insiders had warned the carny government if they accept
00:01:36.300 the main u.s proposal of a 15 tariff on canadian-made autos and parts auto plants would
00:01:41.260 close after the current models production was done and by the way i believe this clip was from
00:01:47.020 a couple of days ago and since then it's been somewhat confirmed that it probably is going to
00:01:52.940 sit at 15 by the way even if it went to 10 that would still be too much because we used to have
00:01:59.180 i believe on finished vehicles going from canada to the united states it was like a six percent
00:02:04.540 tariff the whole idea is well you know we could have maybe built it in detroit we could have built
00:02:09.340 it in another state so pay us a little bit of money because your labor is cheaper or whatever
00:02:13.660 you know, it's just a way of them trying to slightly hold back the advantage of the Canadian
00:02:17.820 market. 15 or 10 just makes it, what's the point of building in Canada when you can build in the
00:02:24.000 United States anyways, and they have cheaper taxes and all that. The thing is that Canada's
00:02:28.480 domestic market is not that good. The only thing we usually get over the Americans is our labor 0.70
00:02:34.680 and some of the other sort of just fees of doing business are a bit lower. Taxes are higher, but,
00:02:40.700 you know, labour is cheaper, sometimes raw materials are cheaper to access in Canada,
00:02:46.340 but that's about it. So you can't survive at that 15% rate. The source also said there will still
00:02:52.420 need to be more auto negotiations once free trade talks start. In terms of what Canada gave up,
00:02:57.820 the White House publicly said Canada moved on three sectors, including dairy. We needed to
00:03:02.480 protect supply management. We needed to ensure that the supply management regime remained
00:03:07.940 entirely intact, and I'm confident that that's the case.
00:03:12.080 The U.S. had been seeking changes to rules on the types of dairy products that could be sold
00:03:15.960 into Canada tariff-free, and while there are still negotiations, that seems likely it will happen.
00:03:21.220 The Americans also said there was movement on Canadian retaliatory auto tariffs, but the big
00:03:25.500 one is putting U.S. booze back on provincial store shelves. It's not really the big one,
00:03:30.320 it's more of the symbolic one. We don't need to watch any more of that tape. You get my point
00:03:35.280 here trump and american officials are talking about what's in the deal they really like it
00:03:40.680 obviously while canadian officials aren't saying much and in the case of somebody like dominic
00:03:46.200 leblanc who has been the minister in charge of overseeing the negotiations he more so just assures
00:03:52.220 people we're not touching supply management it sounds like we're suffering losses but don't
00:03:57.380 worry we didn't lose all the territory that you may have thought we could rip we could have lost
00:04:01.900 like if you're in a war and a general told you well we didn't lose the capital you'd be like
00:04:08.900 okay so what other cities what other you know airfields what other territories did we ended
00:04:15.160 up giving up over the past couple of months because that's the problem we're basically
00:04:19.620 just licking our wounds and pretending it's not that bad it's really bad here's also the problem
00:04:24.620 with a 15 tariff on autos even if it was 10 it would be terrible because the u.s in this new
00:04:31.560 agreement apparently is going to pay zero. Zero tariffs on American goods coming over the border
00:04:37.760 other than certain supply management things that try and hold back too much American dairy and
00:04:43.180 poultry from coming into the country. By the way, supply management is stupid. I wish we would get
00:04:47.600 rid of supply management. We'd rip up things like the stupid China agreement to actually get a good
00:04:52.600 deal. The problem is Carney waited too long. He burned a lot of concessions for absolutely nothing
00:04:58.100 previously, and the concessions he has left to give don't really buy us very much. But now I
00:05:04.020 want to move on to a new story that's coming out of the media just from last night, and it's Vice
00:05:10.540 President J.D. Vance, in a meeting with Republican donors, I believe, or it might be just other
00:05:15.780 Republican politicians and officials, was gloating about the deal and going after Mark Carney. And I
00:05:22.400 want to show you how the media is trying to spin this as an anti-peer poly of story or at least
00:05:28.340 trying to soften the blow for their audience by trying to make it an anti-peer poly of story
00:05:33.380 we're just going to go through this ctv news coverage but let me be very clear the fact that
00:05:39.900 jd vance is saying these things behind closed doors and it leaked demonstrates that yes the
00:05:45.740 deal is very good for them and not great for mark carney if the deal was good for carney jd vance
00:05:51.340 and trump would be mad right now they are not mad because they got what they wanted and i can't
00:05:56.960 blame them you know i don't like the tariffs i don't like what the what america did here but i'm
00:06:02.340 more mad at our own government for being incompetent do you in a certain sense you know if another
00:06:07.280 country let's in a hypothetical scenario another country declares war on you and they invade and
00:06:12.580 they like basically absolutely destroy your like your country or your army in a certain sense you'd
00:06:19.720 be more mad at your government if they like put up no resistance or they completely fumbled the
00:06:24.480 war effort and in this case carney talked tough and then he fumbled the negotiations i don't care
00:06:30.460 what the americans did i care that our response sucked that we decided that taking shots at trump
00:06:36.280 was worth more than actually getting a good deal so we waited a year and a half taking shots while
00:06:42.160 also conceding at the same time only to sign this piece of garbage which literally gets us back to
00:06:47.080 square one of what we already didn't like during the last federal election 25 steel and aluminum
00:06:52.280 tariffs what was the point of any of this then and as again ryan from northern perspective pointed
00:06:57.460 out it's not something it's not like a thought that it didn't occur to anybody but he put it
00:07:01.420 very eloquently what is the point of electing mark carney as prime minister because he's good
00:07:07.760 at negotiating with trump when he left the entire trade negotiating effort up to dominic leblanc
00:07:14.720 and Janet Charette. I believe that's the name of our chief negotiator.
00:07:18.900 What's the point of him being involved at all as prime minister if he's not going to be involved?
00:07:24.700 Well, what do I know? Let's go to the CTV News segment where they report on the J.D. Vance remarks.
00:07:30.220 Good evening. The Canadian side still hasn't said the deal is final,
00:07:33.680 but the Americans haven't been shy about boasting about who came out on top.
00:07:38.020 Donald Trump's number two, the Canadian press reports tonight, told a crowd at a New York fundraiser yesterday
00:07:43.100 that the prime minister tried to, quote, out-tough the president.
00:07:48.040 J.D. Vance is also heard saying in the audio obtained by CP that, quote,
00:07:51.360 it's hilarious because Carney presents this as some victory for Canada
00:07:55.340 when fundamentally they climbed down on a lot of issues
00:07:58.700 and that the point of the negotiation was to change Canada's behavior.
00:08:03.460 They've certainly shifted in a Trumpian direction.
00:08:05.660 The U.S. vice president also reportedly takes aim at conservative leader Pierre Polyev in the audio recording,
00:08:11.140 calling him a quote non-entity in negotiations but he praises his longtime friend conservative
00:08:17.560 mp jamil giovanni as a quote pretty effective advocate for canada by quote quietly inserting
00:08:23.280 himself into these negotiations the canada u.s trade minister meanwhile said a deal was very
00:08:28.880 close but what canada is giving up to get there drew sharp public criticism today from a provincial
00:08:34.960 So, Premier, here's CTV's senior political correspondent, Michael Couture.
00:08:39.160 How close are we?
00:08:40.340 So now we can end it there, but notice how little, they gave very short shrift, almost no shrift, to what J.D. Vance said about Mark Carney.
00:08:49.120 He mentioned that Canada's going in a more Trumpian direction, and when he says that, he means that Canada's doing what Trump wants.
00:08:55.760 And again, I don't dislike Trump as a politician.
00:08:58.040 If I was an American living in America, I'd probably think he's pretty okay.
00:09:01.400 I'd probably still not like the tariffs because I'm a free trade guy and I think tariffs are stupid, but it doesn't really matter from the Canadian perspective what Trump does.
00:09:09.800 It matters how we respond to it, and we responded very poorly.
00:09:14.120 And what CTV News cut out of that, and now we're going to go to CBC to see if they mention it, was that he went after Carney for talking tough and completely falling apart under pressure from Donald Trump.
00:09:28.140 He made remarks about Carney puffing his chest out and trying to be a tough guy and then folding at the last minute when Donald Trump was threatening higher tariffs.
00:09:38.760 That seems like the thing they should have mentioned, but they just focus on a more vague statement he made about Canada turning Trumpian, which probably doesn't even really make sense to the average viewer watching it because, you know, it's a very strange thing for him to say.
00:09:51.560 Well, obviously, we're not electing Trump.
00:09:53.100 Well, obviously, there's no sort of Trump-like politician we're electing.
00:09:57.180 So what does he mean by that?
00:09:59.760 They took all the more obvious statements about him mocking Carney's weakness, inserted that one,
00:10:04.400 and then they pivot over to saying, oh, and he called Pierre Paulyev a non-entity.
00:10:08.920 Non-entity? Of course he's not. Paulyev doesn't claim to be an entity in the negotiations.
00:10:15.120 And of course, Jamil Giovanni said something nice about, sorry, of course, J.D. Vance said something nice about Jamil Giovanni.
00:10:20.520 He's his friend. But even that really had nothing to do with the trade negotiations.
00:10:25.100 He just said, you know, Jamil is at least an actual good advocate for his country, but that doesn't even mean Jamil was actually involved in the negotiations.
00:10:33.620 He's just kind of complimenting Jamil Giovanni as a counter to smacking Mark Carney, saying Mark Carney's a weakling.
00:10:40.820 He sucks at negotiating. He folded like a cheap suit. And Jamil Giovanni is actually good at doing stuff like this.
00:10:46.940 That's effectively what was being said there.
00:10:48.980 I can probably take that at face value since it was said behind the scenes and probably wasn't meant for publication.
00:10:55.800 But now let's go into the CBC's coverage and see if they do a better job.
00:11:00.200 J.D. Vance weighing in on these trade talks.
00:11:02.720 And in a speech yesterday, the U.S. vice president said Mark Carney tried to out-tough President Trump.
00:11:08.020 Darren McCraffery looking at what's been a very common refrain from this White House boasting that they've got to win.
00:11:14.560 Already, even though it's still very biased to the liberal side coverage,
00:11:18.980 at least the CBC is actually mentioning that J.D. Vance was mocking Mark Carney for trying to play
00:11:25.440 tough. That is at least somehow better coverage than CTV News. CBC has actually always kind of
00:11:31.240 been, most of the time, a little bit better than CTV News. Now, that doesn't mean either of them
00:11:37.320 is good, but CTV News sometimes is more flamboyantly flax for the Liberal Party in terms of just
00:11:43.280 completely ignoring bad news and focusing on Peter Palliev, because the CTV News thing made
00:11:48.340 it seemed like the big story was pure poly of they put more time into talking about poly of
00:11:53.300 and giovanni than they did vance talking about carney in fact they really didn't even mention
00:11:58.900 carney they just mentioned jd talking about canada yeah definitely a lot of boasting this
00:12:04.660 was at a private republican donors events not just jd vance but lots of senior republicans
00:12:10.500 were there no it must be said jd vance said that mark connie was a very sweet guy before
00:12:15.860 he frankly went on to ridicule the Prime Minister and certainly these talks. Let's have a look at
00:12:21.780 some of the quotes from this private function. Mr Vance said that Carney comes in and puffs his
00:12:27.780 chest out and says I'm going to like out tough Donald Trump. It's hilarious because Carney
00:12:33.860 presents this as some victory for Canada when fundamentally like they climbed down on a lot of
00:12:39.940 issues and then he goes on to say interestingly but the quiet sort of behind the scenes stories
00:12:46.020 is that this like random mp who's had a good relationship with us has been a pretty effective
00:12:51.300 advocate now that mp is jamil giovanni of course the conservative mp we know he's a very good friend
00:12:57.860 of jd vance we're told by mr vance himself that he has inserted himself into these negotiations
00:13:04.260 even then there's now pivoting they did a better job of actually highlighting jd mocking uh mark
00:13:11.620 carney for pretending to be tough but even now they're going off the trail to talk about javani
00:13:16.880 who isn't that big of a part of the story jd's just giving a shout out to his friend who again
00:13:22.160 didn't actually have anything to do with the negotiations he's just complimenting his friend
00:13:25.880 saying that you know javani probably it's kind of like a tacit way of saying he probably should
00:13:30.380 have been in charge of the negotiations because he's far better at advocating for canada
00:13:33.960 Then the guy puffing his chest out, who then climbed down on all the significant, you know, on many significant issues for Canada, which he's saying about Mark Carney.
00:13:43.380 Sure, that is not going to go down particularly well with the prime minister's office or indeed with the conservative leadership.
00:13:50.700 Now, we heard from Mr. Trump on Wednesday.
00:13:52.640 He suggested, of course, that he had a good relationship, a very nice relationship with the leadership right now and also said that this was a good deal for everyone.
00:14:02.520 But then Mr. Vance also kind of doubled down on that, if you like, in this speech.
00:14:08.160 He said that Trump is not trying to bend over to make Canada happy,
00:14:14.980 but saw that there was an opportunity here to get some wins for the country.
00:14:18.400 And the whole point of this is to change Canada's behaviour,
00:14:22.140 which they, you know, not entirely, but they've shifted in a Trumpian direction,
00:14:27.380 according to Mr. Vance.
00:14:30.220 Now, I think there's two things at play here.
00:14:31.960 one of them is obviously this is jd vance talking to a private republican event so he is
00:14:37.500 essentially boasting about this deal in a political way okay sort of i agree he's sort
00:14:44.280 of boasting about it in a political way it's a donor event you want to make your donors happy
00:14:48.680 make them reach into their wallets and give you money at the same time the thing is that it's a
00:14:54.820 closed door meeting he isn't trying to be diplomatic with how he's talking about stuff
00:14:59.420 He's highlighting victories. You don't highlight things that you would think are failures in front
00:15:04.860 of a crowd. You would ignore them. You would highlight all the great stuff we're doing to
00:15:08.400 make them give you money because you're talking to fairly sophisticated political actors.
00:15:13.240 Big donors to parties are not going to let you get away with kind of messing with them and lying
00:15:19.620 about how things are actually going on trade. These are the people who have been following
00:15:23.500 things quite closely if you're boasting about the trade deal with canada in front of a donor event
00:15:30.060 in new york it's because these people know it's a victory and you're trying to say hey you know
00:15:35.260 that thing that you're probably already happy with us yeah that's fantastic and if you want
00:15:39.500 more stuff like that you better open up your wallets and give us more money that's what's
00:15:43.420 going on here so the cbc is trying to slightly spin it as if well you know maybe it's not actually
00:15:48.780 that great of a deal but they're gonna boast about it because of course you're gonna boast about it
00:15:52.700 my thing is where is mark carney boasting about anything where is wab canoe doug ford who i don't
00:15:59.940 think anyone in the last 48 hours there's been more sightings of sasquatch than there have been
00:16:04.580 of doug ford where's david eby where is all of the maritime premiers that i can't name
00:16:10.460 like where are they it's almost like the deal sucks mark carney hasn't even been keeping his
00:16:16.860 advisory council up to date with the deals with how the deal's going and it's not like the deal
00:16:21.900 was finalized. He just doesn't want to tell them because he doesn't want it to leak. The deal is
00:16:25.240 not finalized. You think your advisory council on the U.S. trade deal would be informed about what's
00:16:32.660 going on so they could give you advice. They don't want advice because it's a hot piece of garbage,
00:16:39.380 and they don't want the advisory council to say, why are you signing this? What the heck's wrong
00:16:43.760 with you? And then leaking it to the press. They are staying tight-lipped about it because you
00:16:48.520 might know that there are three by-elections going on right now. Now, the Liberals could win all
00:16:53.840 three of them. The Liberals are probably going to at least win two. Chikudemi-Lefjord, that's the
00:16:58.520 one where they could end up losing to the bloc. The problem is with Richard Martel leaving as the
00:17:02.860 incumbent Conservative for, frankly, an arbitrary reason just to take a Senate's appointment. The
00:17:07.840 Conservatives are probably not going to win because, naturally, your own voters are like, well, what's
00:17:11.160 the point of voting for you again? That doesn't actually spell regional or even national or even
00:17:16.860 really regional issues for the conservatives it's an issue that has to do with that one riding that
00:17:21.820 i don't think is exactly going to be carrying forward but in the other ridings the liberals
00:17:26.620 don't want to look like their votes collapsing because of this bad deal so they are not mentioning
00:17:31.980 what is going on because advanced polls are open right now and you don't want people to know that
00:17:36.380 you just got taken to the cleaners by the president that they are that they are supposed to hate more
00:17:42.140 than like death itself i mean at the end of the day the americans are trying to convince the other
00:17:46.380 americans that this is a good deal it is a good deal he's not trying to jd vance and this is what
00:17:52.540 i find annoying he's not just boasting he's not just trying to convince people it's a good deal
00:17:56.860 it is a good deal and that's why he's boasting to fairly politically savvy donors about it
00:18:02.300 obviously this is jd vance talking to a private republican event so he is essentially boasting
00:18:08.140 about this deal in a political way i mean at the end of the day the americans are trying to convince
00:18:12.460 the other americans that this is a good deal so it's quite difficult to work out how much this
00:18:17.820 is domestic posturing versus what the reality might actually be it's not domestic posturing if
00:18:23.900 it's a behind closed doors meeting it is in fact them just boasting the boasting is the right word
00:18:30.140 to use they're boasting because they believe it's good in front of donors who would be able to smell
00:18:35.020 nonsense if they knew if they if there was nonsense involved they'd be able to say no that you're
00:18:40.700 underlying in fact this helps a lot of american investments because not only are they reducing
00:18:46.220 like the thing is that tariffs aren't great for the american economy either way but this might
00:18:51.200 be better than no tariffs because they're going to keep tariffs on us while they're not going to
00:18:55.520 have any terror we're not going to have any tariffs on them so effectively they're going to
00:18:59.440 savage our auto sector it's going to relocate into the u.s a lot of it and then they're just
00:19:04.080 going to sell us cars back oh and by the way what's carny say for this well we're also going
00:19:08.300 let china dump evs into our economy as well so thank you mark carney but whatever the conclusion 0.97
00:19:14.940 is this in the last couple of hours the last you know kind of furlong as we move towards the end
00:19:20.860 of these negotiations is definitely not helpful for mark carney the prime minister well no because
00:19:26.140 carney is sort of i can at least give him that he was able to admit that i don't think this guy is
00:19:31.020 lying i think oftentimes if you're a guest you're an expert you're a correspondent for the cbc you
00:19:36.700 You are going to massage things a little bit that gets you invited back onto the CBC.
00:19:40.920 In this bind where he's both trying to tell Canadians that this is the best deal that they could get,
00:19:46.620 it's a good deal, while not saying that too loudly and making it sound that the Trump administration got a loss or something like that.
00:19:53.100 The Jamil Giovanni stuff is interesting.
00:19:54.720 It's not a good deal. That's why he's not talking about it.
00:19:57.260 It's not because he's scared to brag about how great his deal is,
00:20:01.680 and if Trump gets word of it, he's going to want to rip it up because, oh my goodness,
00:20:04.540 the Canadians think the deal's too good. I'm going to get rid of this thing. They're saying
00:20:08.080 that I actually lost. We're not saying that he lost because he didn't lose on this one.
00:20:13.300 It's so bad for the Liberals that even Avi Lewis, who's usually comatose when it comes to the trade
00:20:21.400 issue because he's too scared of contradicting Mark Carney and not seeming like he's on team
00:20:25.900 elbows up, even Avi Lewis came out and attacked the deal. Avi Lewis, other than climate change
00:20:32.880 and palestine basically talks about nothing and even he crawled out of his hole to talk about this
00:20:38.640 one he said and this was a couple days ago for the benefit of all the workers affected in every
00:20:44.440 industry from steel and aluminum to autos forestry and more a good deal with the u.s would be great
00:20:49.560 news but while we await the details i'm urging the prime minister not to grant any concessions
00:20:54.320 that would further undermine our economic independence we are dealing with a president
00:20:58.540 whose trade trades in chaos and unpredictability there is no deal that will bring an end to the
00:21:03.820 threats and uncertainty for this reason protecting canadian workers without granting further unilateral
00:21:09.100 concessions is essential and the keystone xl pipeline is a concession that makes no sense
00:21:13.580 whatsoever for our economy our sovereignty and our climate earlier this year the energy minister said
00:21:19.100 repeatedly that he wants to help the u.s achieve energy dominance this should be obviously this
00:21:23.980 This should obviously not be any part of a trade deal between our two countries.
00:21:28.300 Canadians are not in the mood for more giveaways to the Trump administration,
00:21:31.980 even if that means walking away from the table to protect Canadian workers and industries.
00:21:36.300 So again, this is significant because Avi Lewis had not talked about trade at all since becoming leader.
00:21:43.260 He had not critiqued Mark Carney at all.
00:21:45.340 And even at the start there, you can tell he's slowly kind of descending into the warm jacuzzi,
00:21:51.060 not wanting to enter it too fast, saying, you know, hoping for a good deal, you know,
00:21:55.160 hoping Carney gets something good. But then he's kind of alluding to the fact that if he keeps
00:21:58.960 trade tariffs in place, if this is hurting our independence in some way, then I am going to
00:22:04.760 attack. And I think the NDP should, from their perspective. I'm a conservative, and I'm not
00:22:09.020 just saying I want the NDP to attack because it's good for conservatives, for the left to be
00:22:12.460 fighting. But if I was an NDP advisor, I would say we need to become, we need to start eating
00:22:17.980 away at any working class voters the liberals took away from its last election and a great way of 0.92
00:22:23.600 doing that would be slapping them for accepting this deal while pretending their elbows up and
00:22:29.260 you can tell that this is not good for the left or for the liberals because one of the people who
00:22:35.320 immediately responded to what avi lewis had said was liberal mp mark gerritson he said let's be
00:22:42.580 honest avi you're going to criticize the outcome no matter what it is so let's not pretend you're
00:22:47.760 approaching this with an open mind that or that outrage isn't already the destination.
00:22:54.480 Mark Gerritsen is the worst liberal. He is terrible at marketing the liberal party.
00:23:02.740 He's telling on himself here. Let's just read that over again, because I'm here to defend
00:23:07.620 Avi Lewis, oddly enough. He says, let's be honest, Avi, you're going to criticize the outcome no
00:23:13.440 matter what it is. Okay, that's not a point against Avi Lewis. That is simply saying, well,
00:23:18.440 you're going to criticize it anyways. How about you defend your deal, Mark Gerritsen, rather than
00:23:22.200 saying you're going to criticize it anyways? Because people don't care about his criticism
00:23:26.120 if it's a good deal. His criticism is only threatening to you if it actually lands home
00:23:31.780 with many liberals who may consider voting for the NDP. Well, let's take the next line. He says,
00:23:37.740 so let's not pretend you're approaching this with an open mind or that outrage isn't already
00:23:42.200 the destination what so he says so let's not pretend you're approaching this with an open mind
00:23:49.380 why should anyone have to have an open mind about what we're signing if mark carney promised a good
00:23:55.480 deal shouldn't we not we should have we should be able to be closed-minded and still think it's a
00:24:00.420 good deal if it is a good deal you only need to be open-minded if what you signed is not typically
00:24:05.940 what somebody would consider a good deal. Like if I was saying, if I was a realtor for you and I was
00:24:12.820 saying the house is $800,000 and when we enter, please keep an open mind, you know, keep an open
00:24:19.540 mind about what we're getting for this amount of money. You'd be like, oh my goodness, what's in
00:24:24.440 this house? Do I have to fuel it with coal or something like that? Is like the layout, the
00:24:29.440 envelope of the house really weird? Is it only going to be like two bedrooms despite how much
00:24:34.580 i'm paying that's what you would probably end up thinking open-minded is not what i want to feel
00:24:40.600 about a new trade deal especially one that mark carney was pretending was going to like be a great
00:24:47.560 for canadians he wasn't going to sign a limited deal he was going to sign a a broad big deal
00:24:53.280 that was that was good for canadians and it wasn't just going to slightly lower tariffs he was going
00:24:57.800 to basically try and fight to get them as low as possible that's not what we got and fighting to
00:25:02.740 get them as low as possible does not, to me, indicate that he's not going to touch supply
00:25:08.060 management and not touch his China deal. There's a lot of things he put off limits in terms of
00:25:13.000 negotiations. And then there's things he just burned his concessions for nothing. So what?
00:25:17.840 There's no way of getting through this without concluding that Mark Carney lost. That is why
00:25:23.260 the Americans are mocking him, because he looks really bad in all of this. And they're not scared
00:25:28.920 of him the the car the the americans aren't scared of saying that it's a great deal thinking
00:25:34.480 that canada could walk away from the table if we realize that it's a good deal but i like how
00:25:39.600 i like how um the media is trying to now spin what jd vance said earlier as the ant as an
00:25:47.520 anti-poly of story this came out from national news watch national news watch it's an article
00:25:53.760 I believe, which outlet is this? It actually is an article just on National News Watch. Maybe it's
00:25:59.480 probably from Canadian Press where it gets posted in a lot of places. But it says here, J.D. Vance
00:26:04.980 on Giovanni, a helpful advocate for Canada trade. Vance on Polyev. He is a non-entity in negotiations.
00:26:11.700 Why is this a story? It's not a story. It's literally reporting on the absence of a story.
00:26:17.540 Jamil gives his friend a compliment. He said Polyev is a non-entity because Polyev was a
00:26:24.360 non-entity. Polyev isn't here the next day angry that Jamil doesn't think he was an entity in the
00:26:32.060 negotiations. Does Polyev want to have been associated with these negotiations? No, no,
00:26:38.860 it's a bad deal. He's happy today knowing that he's not associated with the deal whatsoever.
00:26:44.100 But this is what people like Sharon Kor are saying. They're posting in quotes non-entity with an injured emoji as if, oh, look, that's really going to strike at the heart of Pierre Polyev. It doesn't. You don't want to be associated with this deal.
00:27:02.480 And again, they're acting as if, like, Mark Karasrayad, Pierre Polyev, was jumping up and down to try and get some juice out of this thing, as if he was involved in a deal being signed.
00:27:14.540 Like, no, Polyev today, and I'm going to cover this in another video, was rightfully attacking the deal that he marketed himself as elbows up, the guy who can negotiate with Trump, the guy who's going to get a great deal for Canadians, he's not going to leave tariffs in place.
00:27:27.360 And now we're signing a deal that's going to put aluminum and steel tariffs from 50% to 25%, which they'll say, hey, we halved them.
00:27:35.880 When Mark Carney was originally signing up to fight the tariffs, he was fighting back against 25% tariffs on aluminum and steel that were deemed way too high.
00:27:45.580 And now we're calling it a victory to get back to the point that we had already said was too high.
00:27:52.380 Here's a comment from Dimitri Soudis, who used to be a conservative advisor to Stephen Harper, I believe, back in the day.
00:27:59.760 And now he's just a full-time Pierre Polyev hater.
00:28:02.980 And he said, who would have told J.D. Vance that the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and PM in waiting is a non-entity in negotiations?
00:28:11.640 Why would he refer to him this guy, Pierre Polyev, or something?
00:28:18.680 Whoever briefed Vance had bad intentions, and it's deplorable,
00:28:22.280 but he had very nice things to say about Mr. Giovanni.
00:28:26.500 And again, pretending as if somehow this was like a big gotcha on Polyev?
00:28:31.700 Again, who would have told J.D. Vance that the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada
00:28:35.420 and PM when waiting is a non-entity in negotiations?
00:28:38.720 Is he implying that Jamil Giovanni told J.D. to say that?
00:28:42.420 I don't think so.
00:28:44.100 And in fact, this doesn't hurt Polyev at all.
00:28:47.520 I'm a non-entity in the trade negotiations, guys.
00:28:50.360 I'm not hurt by that.
00:28:52.000 It's because I'm not in government.
00:28:54.280 It's because I'm not involved myself.
00:28:56.580 Oliyev went on a couple podcasts and talked to the Chamber of Commerce in New York City,
00:29:01.500 but that's not him involving himself.
00:29:03.960 That was him marketing Canada's position.
00:29:06.320 Lots of people did that.
00:29:07.380 There are non-entities inside the liberal government in these negotiations,
00:29:11.380 some of which probably should have been entities.
00:29:13.820 Mark Carney, in a lot of ways, was borderline a non-entity
00:29:16.460 because he never showed up to actually negotiate.
00:29:18.900 He just left it to LeBlanc and Charette,
00:29:21.320 which, what are we doing?
00:29:23.060 I thought you were the master of dealing with Donald Trump.
00:29:26.140 But again, what is this coverage?
00:29:29.900 Mark Carney screws up a trade deal,
00:29:31.660 and we're talking about, oh my goodness,
00:29:33.660 Pierre Polly wasn't even involved.
00:29:36.240 Well, who could have guessed the opposition leader wasn't involved?
00:29:39.520 Like, let's quickly, I just quickly want to check the headlines.
00:29:44.300 If I look up J.D. Vance on Google,
00:29:46.460 because it's going to be telling if a lot of it ends up being about pure Polyev.
00:29:54.600 Okay, it's a little bit too mixed up with a lot of American news.
00:29:57.420 It doesn't matter.
00:29:58.260 But you get my point.
00:29:59.580 Why is it that there's any articles being written of him calling Polyev a non-entity?
00:30:03.560 Sure, include that in the article that you talk about J.D. Vance's fuller remarks,
00:30:08.320 but that was deemed to be its own article.
00:30:10.480 Go back to the CTV News thing.
00:30:11.900 It's what the media are using to distract from Mark Carney.
00:30:14.740 The CTV News barely mentioned J.D. Vance's entire comments on Canada and Kearney, but then quickly moved on to talk about Pauly and Giovanni as if it mattered whatsoever.
00:30:26.760 anyways so with all that being said thank you guys for watching this video again i would say
00:30:34.040 in situations like this always kind of focus on the mood and attitude of the players involved
00:30:39.120 no matter what the canadian government says no matter what the canadian media says look at the
00:30:44.580 faces of people like wab canoe like dominic leblanc they're not happy if they knew that this
00:30:50.500 was good for them maybe they'll play a little coy but they're not going to look like mark like
00:30:54.540 wab canoe and someone just shot his dog in front of him and he's talking like you know staring off
00:30:59.560 into the distance very angry about putting booze back on the shelves and how a bunch of his steel
00:31:03.880 workers are not going to be happy with this deal he would be you know kind of smirking a little
00:31:07.960 bit like yeah we got a deal coming up i'm not sure what's in it uh you know hopefully it's good for
00:31:12.420 us he'd be like that you know maybe i'm willing to put booze back on the shelves we'll see he
00:31:17.420 would do that he wouldn't be like yeah yeah uh well you know you will have we'll see how steel
00:31:22.720 workers think about this and if there's a tariff on them you know it could be tough like that's
00:31:26.440 how he's talking about it he's not acting like this is something good but i'm gonna stop myself
00:31:31.380 before i start ranting again and don't worry guys i will be getting a haircut i'm starting to look
00:31:35.380 like i could be part of herman's hermits or some other bubblegum pop group in the 1960s but
00:31:41.440 hopefully i'll get that done in another day get off my back man so with all that being said thank
