00:00:00.000Hey guys, Wyatt Claypool here, and welcome back to the National Telegraph YouTube channel.0.98
00:00:05.960This trade conflict with the United States is incredibly dumb, but the only thing dumber than it is all of the discourse around it.
00:00:14.360And that's why I have on today Dimpy Brar to be equally frustrated alongside me and help you all digest what we're actually seeing going on.0.96
00:00:23.640She's written for a plethora of conservative publications in both the United States and Canada, and I think she is one of the very few rational thinkers who actually writes in the mainstream media sometimes about this particular issue.
00:00:37.220Thanks for coming on, Dimpy, and I've been really happy to see you post every day things that are actually rational.
00:00:44.920J.G. McCullough has also been quite good on this as well.
00:00:48.420Oh, first of all, Wyatt, thank you for having me, because as I was telling you beforehand,
00:00:52.600I watch your show literally all the time. You are my data guy, essentially, because numbers are not
00:00:58.940my forte. Ideas are. And yes, I'm so pleased to be here. And also, you're right. J.J. McCulloch
00:01:04.080has really come. I used to read him ages and ages ago, and it's amazing. It's like he's having a
00:01:09.940little bit of a renaissance. This is his moment and time to shine, so I'm loving it. Well, he's
00:01:14.960funny because he obviously really doesn't like donald trump and he is the perfect test case of
00:01:20.760it doesn't matter what you think of trump this trade war and how canada is dealing with it0.95
00:01:25.520is completely dumb and again like i said in the intro the discourse about the trade war is even0.98
00:01:32.500dumber than the actual thing itself about how we're apparently all supposed to be rallying1.00
00:01:36.880around the flag right now and because we're not we're apparently traitors oh my favorite part is0.97
00:01:43.460that patriotism has come to mean essentially loving Carney. So Canada is now just Carney.
00:01:49.900It's not even the Liberal Party. It's just Mark Carney himself. So for all the accusations being
00:01:55.020made against Donald Trump for being a fascist and authoritarian, you know, a one man personality
00:02:00.340cult, we have our own up here. And I got to say, I think elbows up might be might be even more0.66
00:02:06.500potent than MAGA was. It's a very interesting kind of parallel in Canada. Well, it has some
00:02:14.320people's temple vibes to it when you see all these people effectively willing to sacrifice other
00:02:19.500people's well-beings, jobs, retirement funds in order to make Trump grumpy. That's really what
00:02:26.920it's all about. When you see people like Charlie Angus and Laura Babcock and others of that elbows
00:02:33.600up persuasion. They don't actually know what the end goal here is, but they celebrate every day
00:02:39.560that Trump is not happy with us. It doesn't mean we're winning. Like, imagine fighting a war like
00:02:44.140this. We're not actually taking ground. We're not actually moving towards an objective, but we've
00:02:50.000made the German army very mad by firing some artillery and not actually doing anything.
00:02:55.920Well, it's also amazing to me, too, because I've learned something new about TDS. I knew that there
00:03:01.500was no vaccine or cure. But I've come to realize that it also has two other twin symptoms, one of
00:03:08.000which is humorlessness. You notice no one's very funny anymore. And number two is hysteria. It's
00:03:13.280a kind of hysteria, mass hysteria that's occurred across the nation. And it doesn't seem to be
00:03:19.800limited or restricted to any single party or individual. I like to say that I feel as if
00:03:25.200we're five minutes away from dunking people to see if they float. And I think it's probably less
00:03:30.200and five minutes away it's probably tomorrow i'll probably be there so and the thing i find really
00:03:36.380frustrating through this entire ordeal is that we are never defining what is a good deal and what
00:03:43.180is a bad deal we are simply supposed to like we treat mark carney like he is the pipe at the
00:03:50.260vatican and we're all supposed to wait until the white smoke comes out and he just says something
00:03:53.960has happened you it's it's just an impenetrable situation you do not get to know what's in the
00:03:59.720deal. You don't get to even know what Carney thinks a good deal would be. We simply have to
00:04:05.200just wait around until he declares it. And in fact, if you ask for these metrics, you are in
00:04:10.260fact a trader. Oh, and here's my favorite part about Mr. Carney. It's not as if his secretiveness
00:04:15.900is actually restricted to the US trade deal. It's also has the same, he has the same idea and lack
00:04:22.320of transparency when it came to those MOUs that he signed with the CCP. You know, to this day,
00:04:27.820we don't know what's in it. Are those good or bad deals? It's one aspect of Mr. Carney that I think
00:04:34.400I can see why he so admires Chinese or Eastern despotism. And that's because of the unaccountable1.00
00:04:40.520nature of Chinese despotism. I think he admires the fact that he doesn't have to actually respond1.00
00:04:46.220to the Canadian people. After all, he never attended institutions here. He never raised
00:04:50.920his family here. And he doesn't seem to have ever viewed himself as Canadian at all. He's probably
00:04:56.220one of the worst types of cosmopolitan that we've had the unfortunate consequence of having rule1.00
00:05:03.540over us or govern us at a time when there are multiple crises in this country. And again,0.99
00:05:08.360like you were saying, the way we're even speaking about the trade war, the fact that he's calling
00:05:12.160it a war, it's supposed to be a terror-free negotiation of Kuzma. It's really not supposed
00:05:18.880to be this elaborate kind of militaristic rhetoric. But again, as you've pointed out on your show
00:05:25.580multiple times now. It's in his electoral and political strategy to stoke up this anti-Americanism
00:05:33.580and this TDS. But the only people that are being hurt are the Canadian people. He will be a-okay.
00:05:39.100I like to say that if anything goes wrong in Canada, he'll have many places to flee to,0.90
00:05:44.840but our people have nowhere else to go. And that's really the danger.
00:05:48.740Well, this entire situation has somehow gotten the people who thought that the Canadian flag
00:05:55.080represented hate and extremism back in 2022 to now be angry if you don't have one flying outside
00:06:02.580of your house right now it's in you it's about the kind of it's the cosmopolitan types that are
00:06:08.700most kind of guilty of doing this carney who rarely ever spends time in canada would rather
00:06:14.500be having caviar in london is now and definitely not the ontario london uh and he he he would he
00:06:21.660He has never actually been kind of like a base level, middle class Canadian patriot who loves the country for the substance of what it actually is.
00:06:31.540He only likes like what Canada can represent for him.
00:06:35.100It can represent a anti-American battering ram.
00:06:38.940And he only likes kind of the more elite trappings of the country.
00:06:42.300He doesn't actually like average Canadians.
00:06:45.160He doesn't really like the kind of average Canadian middle class culture.
00:06:48.600He only likes it from, like, the, again, the perspective of what it does for the Liberal Party and for, like, the anti-American movement, more like, I guess, internationally.
00:06:59.460Well, that's one of the most horrifying parts about this.
00:07:03.820You know, I'm really interested in ancient politics and how we differ and especially how we've declined from it.
00:07:09.360And in ancient politics, especially Greek politics, politics has such a high status.
00:07:12.760You know, the statesman was really someone who stewards the nation.
00:07:16.960And he himself is subordinate to the nation itself. But that's the exact reverse with Mr. Carney. Mr. Carney is very clearly using our nation as a means to his own personal ends, whether they're going to be gains or successes or losses.
00:07:31.260We still don't know yet. But fundamentally, that's really all we are to him. And to use a nation as a means to an end to me is one of it's one of these lowest, very debased things that I've seen.
00:07:41.080And again, I find it offensive. My mother worked in a factory, for goodness sakes. You know, they were immigrants to this country. And normally I hate when people go on these kinds of rants, but bear with me. You know, my parents came to this country, as did my grandfather, and they came and they made the greatest kind of spiritual severance from their past.
00:08:31.180It seems to be an establishment level thing, a bipartisan, some would say uniparty, but a kind of bipartisan consensus in which they share the luxury belief that the Canadian people can get more and more poor.
00:08:45.340They can get have less and less money, but be more and more patriotic by serving Mr. Carney.
00:08:52.240One of my pet peeves is whenever people start referencing Edmund Burke, when they really just mean they don't like average poor people.
00:09:00.260Yeah, just say it. Yeah, exactly. Just say you don't like poor people. Although, fun fact about Edmund Burke, a quote that they never mentioned from the revolutions is Edmund Burke always says that in politics, people are often 60 years behind. I feel like our leaders actually are 60 years behind. They haven't quite caught up to what's happening. I don't think they've also picked up on the Trump revolution writ large outside of the United States.
00:09:25.800you know trump has actually initiated a kind of conservative revolution in the west um and again
00:09:31.880for good and for ill and there it's not necessarily analogous but we must always remember candace the
00:09:37.880only g7 nation that has yet to go through a trump revolution on the conservative movement so we're
00:09:43.240actually stuck in a kind of pre-trump rhino territory which makes this all the more interesting
00:09:49.400Yeah. And like it's that we have voices on like the supposed right who are trying to keep kind of, I guess, conservatives contained throughout this entire trade dispute, because this could be one of those kind of boiling point moments where people realize that, you know, kind of the liberal establishment of this country is perfectly willing for you to be poor and desperate in order for them to get some take symbolic shots at Donald Trump.
00:10:17.300And that could start like, you know, quite the working class move even harder towards the political right and actually get, you know, a proper like, you know, more right wing conservative into office.
00:10:28.260But we have all these people on the right saying, no, no, no, you have to stay inside the anti-American box.
00:10:32.580You need basically your own brand of elbows up where we talk about, you know, the War of 1812 and King Charles and all these things that you're supposed to care about more than your own actual well-being.
00:10:44.040uh the other day uh harrison faulkner over at juno news ended up saying that you know you know
00:10:50.520gdp isn't everything the country isn't the gdp it's the culture and it's the people and it's the
00:10:55.980history and i always whenever people say that i'm like you you realize people need to eat food
00:11:01.560to keep on living you can't just tell people not to like care about the gdp because yes the gdp
00:11:08.640isn't everything but i only ever have this group of people telling us to stop caring about the gdp
00:11:13.460Which is usually not a good sign for how the country's going if you have to stop caring about your financial well-being.0.62
00:11:19.700Well, it's a luxury belief not to have to care about money.
00:11:22.760And again, prosperity has always been a conservative issue.
00:11:31.020Leftists have always been against prosperity for this very reason.1.00
00:11:34.480It's much better to have poor little plebs around for the left.0.99
00:11:37.860And it's shocking to see that, again, on the conservative side, I always found that their kind of disdain or contempt right now, even for the new media, I just take it to be a proxy for the new working class coalition under Pierre.1.00
00:11:51.380That's kind of changed. Pierre really did change or transform the kind of coalition that the conservatives have now inherited.
00:12:00.300And a lot of it is younger and much more working class. These guys are people like my mother. They are factory workers.
00:12:07.860They are middle class people. They have union, good paying union jobs. And I think people would
00:12:13.800be shocked to find out, shocked I say, that they don't want to have high poverty just so that they
00:12:20.860can have good made in Canada television. It's the same argument that Aristotle and Machiavelli had
00:12:26.760ages ago. You require equipment for virtue and prosperity is one of those things. So if you want
00:12:33.160great theaters. If you want high culture, you're going to need money. And I don't believe that
00:12:39.200anyone in this country is saying, I hate America so much, so please make me poor.
00:12:45.640And I think what we also have going on with some of these people on the supposed right
00:12:50.440in the consulting class or the laptop class, who are oddly enough, like attacking other
00:12:58.340conservatives for simply criticizing Mark Carney's approach to the trade conflict, even just
00:13:05.300suggesting things he should do, or even wanting some transparency around the deal. They're
00:13:10.600attacking in part because a lot of their careers ride on government spending not dropping, on us
00:13:17.700not getting out of the current political box that we are in that says government is in charge of
00:13:23.400growth in canada there's a reason why when doug ford uh became premier of ontario he didn't end
00:13:30.060up cutting anything because how are he how is he going to pay some of his consultant allies
00:13:34.040in order to pay them back for helping him get elected even though they probably had absolutely
00:13:38.080nothing to do with it but he believes they are and so we can't cut any spending because these
00:13:42.280guys got to get paid and so in the midst of all this all these guys are like you know saying elbows
00:13:47.660up they're not saying what i'm saying and what other people are saying of how about we could
00:13:51.920become more competitive to deal with the trade issue. And we start cutting taxes and slashing
00:13:56.760regulations and doing all this other stuff. But that would ruin them all for us to actually be
00:14:01.380back in a world where you actually need to be skilled to make money. It's also funny because
00:14:06.560yeah, I'm like you, I believe in country, not government contracts, which I think a lot of
00:14:11.080this comes down to. And it's one of these, it's again, it's one of these aspects of the tariff
00:14:15.600negotiations. It's a fun thing about TDS. It's very revealing, you know, it really shows people
00:14:21.540who they are in a funny little way. And I have to say, it's been shocking, for me at least,
00:14:28.180the ease with which people think that people's livelihoods should be sacrificed for their petty
00:14:33.580partisan appetites and their little, again, partisan arguments that they have within other
00:14:40.680individuals. People would be shocked to find out that many of the disagreements that are occurring
00:14:46.140right now, they don't even rise to the level of debate among conservatives. It's really,
00:14:50.360they make these grand assertions, you know, it's a battle for the soul of the conservative party.
00:14:55.060No, it's not. It's a battle for the soul of government contracts and who's going to get
00:14:58.860funding. It has absolutely nothing to do with the country or its citizens. In fact, in a funny
00:15:04.100little way, Wyatt, it has nothing to do with trade at all. They're just using the trade and
00:15:08.760the tariffs right now as a kind of battering ram against their former enemies. And that's what I
00:15:14.280resent the most about it. Don't tell me about how terrible this deal is when A, like you pointed0.57
00:15:21.020out, you've never even seen the deal. So how do we know whether it's good or bad? B, you're taking
00:15:25.420the word as if Mr. Carney is some kind of infallible man. He's lied so many times already,
00:15:32.360especially when it comes to China, that I most certainly don't want to take his view on any of
00:15:37.780these things. And again, I think you've pointed this out before too, which always cracks me out.
00:15:42.560I think the Conservatives would be wise to learn that Mr. Carney has a majority government. He doesn't need our help in elbowing up and doing a Team Carney approach. In fact, one of the best things we could do, one would argue one of the most patriotic things we can do is push back against Mr. Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada.
00:16:02.100I think we actually have a little bit of an opportunity here. I would not think that the
00:16:07.360tariffs are such an easy win for Mr. Carney. You know, if there's a point at which he's really on
00:16:13.860defense, it's usually on foreign policy matters, especially when it concerns the United States.
00:16:19.720So I actually feel like I'm a little happy warrior, maybe a little DeLulu. I feel like we're seeing
00:16:24.280some opportunities here to get some real shots in. And I think that we should take every single
00:16:28.760one of them. And in politics in general, when you take some risk, you also have more payoff
00:16:34.700that comes with it if you end up being right. Now, if we actually step back and we analyze the
00:16:40.480tariff situation, there's going to be a deal cut at some point. It's just going to happen.
00:16:46.820That poll came out from Build Canada a few days ago that shows if Canadians start having to pay
00:16:52.000higher taxes as a consequence of this, if their retirements are put at risk, if they lose a job,
00:16:57.580it goes from 75% of people are elbows up to 21. 21% only sticks strongly elbows up if you start
00:17:05.920losing jobs or having to pay more taxes. But people love to rally around the flag while it
00:17:10.980costs them absolutely nothing. And they will quickly abandon it, especially because it's a
00:17:15.900very empty thing to be rallying around the flag about. It's a trade dispute. You don't have to
00:17:20.640like Trump's tariffs to understand that is the board game set in front of us and we can either
00:17:24.660play it well or not play it well. So the Conservatives should realize this is going to resolve
00:17:28.780at some point. So why not be the party saying very unpopular things right now, but it's proven
00:17:34.460right later? And I would frame it as, hey, to use another hockey analogy, if your team is getting
00:17:42.320beaten on the ice, you don't tell people to shut up when you say that that guy needs to be pulled
00:17:46.840off the ice or what the heck is the coach doing? It's not that we hate the team. We don't like
00:17:50.900that guy who's who's basically leading the team into defeats we don't like that player who keeps
00:17:55.960trying to check uh who keeps trying to pull like you know have fights with other players on the
00:18:00.480other team but they're not scoring because that's effectively what we're doing now trump is trying
00:18:04.500to score on us and we're trying to like get into like you know give a body check them effectively
00:18:10.060that's all and then but apparently you're not a good fan if you're not cheering on our non-winning
00:18:16.960strategy so yeah the conservatives should be basically saying carney is a terrible head coach
00:18:22.360of team canada here and he needs to be replaced because he's pulling you know he's getting his
00:18:27.340guys go out nice and throw elbows and do all that stuff and it makes the crowd cheer but we haven't
00:18:32.380scored a single goal this entire time how did we let him go like the conservatives should be
00:18:36.700constantly hitting them on the fact that we've made three or four significant concessions for
00:18:42.820nothing in return everything has value in a negotiation you could have duct taped dst
00:18:48.180streaming tax and the gordie howe bridge into one basically concession and say you know what i'll
00:18:53.300give you this steel and aluminum gotta be below 20 at the very least and i'll give you this other
00:18:58.980thing c11 c18 those two has to be below 18 and then you slowly whittle your way down to something
00:19:03.940Oh, completely. And I will, sorry about that. Amateur hour over here.
00:19:13.500Exactly. Can you imagine? That's my call to get into the gulag right now, Wyatt. I'm sure they're
00:19:17.900looking for you too. But here's what I would also say about this. Look, I have never been,
00:19:24.980I think there's a kind of misunderstanding, or I would probably say a deliberately disingenuous
00:19:30.780framing of those of us who have been actually more actively open to not just the idea of a
00:19:37.400tariff deal. My personal position, I can't speak for others, is that Canada ought to have special
00:19:43.900trading status with the United States. I actually think we should have our own separate free trade
00:19:49.920agreement, and it should be the best of any ally or friend. I think by very virtue of the fact that
00:19:56.340we share a border with them, this is the real opportunity for a fortress North America.
00:20:01.340We are what I like to call the guardians of the North, Wyatt. Every kind of force arrayed against,
00:20:08.400I'm sorry, every kind of force arrayed against Western civilization right now has to come through0.75
00:20:15.040the continent through the North. And we cannot possibly lose this. And the reason why I feel so
00:20:20.580strongly about this is because I think that Canada has a special mission. It's never about being
00:20:25.300equal to the United States. But we are a kind of player that no one else right now on this
00:20:30.620continent can play, whether it's because of our geography, our potential for defense,
00:20:35.320our natural resources. And let's not forget, we have a special kinship with the Americans.
00:20:42.120And even if you think our identity is in direct contrast or rejection of the American way of
00:20:49.320life, well, that still puts you within the American horizon. You're still debating upon
00:20:53.460those terms in a funny little way. We're the only English speakers on this continent. We have a kind
00:21:00.460of special friendship that, again, it's really not up for negotiation, in my opinion. This is
00:21:06.640something that will be here forever. I hate to say things like this. I don't want to be too doom and
00:21:11.400gloom, but when I look at Europe, when I look at England, I don't really see the possibility of
00:21:16.540recovery there anymore. I'm sorry to say that I think that what's occurring there, I'm not sure
00:21:21.860an election can fix it. And I'm not saying that the problems in Canada are so easy to solve or
00:21:26.880to resolve within an election either. But I think that Canada actually really has a chance here,
00:21:31.920a chance to avoid what's happening in Europe and also what happened in South America. And that's
00:21:37.440what I'm really trying to push for. We have a civilizational friendship that is unlike any
00:21:43.520other, and we should have special chosen status. And I cannot believe right now, Wyatt, that there
00:21:50.200are conservatives who are seriously dropping the ball to focus so much on america without picking0.99
00:21:57.000up the hundred dollar bill on the floor which is china china china that is mr carney's kryptonite
00:22:03.220there's a reason that man does not speak the name of china anymore he doesn't even dare utter it0.57
00:22:07.680but he doesn't mention it for a reason he knows it's unpopular and we should hit him where it
00:22:12.440hurts well yeah absolutely call him out for the fact that he finds it more offensive to sign a0.59
00:22:19.800deal with trump than to trade with a country that has uyghur muslims in you know concentration camps0.99
00:22:26.620making cheap products that then get shipped into canada that's totally fine for him you know we1.00
00:22:31.760should keep letting the chinese dump evs in our economy despite the fact that they're only cheap1.00
00:22:37.600because of all the ip theft they engage in uh and also here's the thing that i think pier polio1.00
00:22:43.860should have done when he went down to the u.s for his media tour and maybe he'll still do it
00:22:47.860i think what he should almost do is kind of make a bit of a comedic point about all this don't be
00:22:54.500on carney's side and obviously you're not going to be on trump's side you're a canadian conservative
00:22:58.520leader you've got to rhetorically kind of separate yourself but come in and just make fun of the
00:23:03.300situation a little bit more rather than looking like too much of carney's wingman which i don't
00:23:08.340think he's trying to do but that's what people are like characterizing him as he's agreeing with
00:23:12.320carney too much come and say like well this is like what's trump going to do next put tariffs
00:23:16.860on california what is he going to put tariffs on texas because that's effectively what canada is
00:23:22.180we're not a state but at the same time we're like tariffing your front yard there's no point0.67
00:23:26.940in doing it if you actually want to fight back against china let's do this and then0.70
00:23:30.740the conservatives can pitch the whole idea that hey how about canada not only rips up our china
00:23:36.400deal how about we place tariffs on china and we have more open trade between america and canada
00:23:42.500that would be a little bit better and he can kind of and i think he should be going at mark carney
00:23:47.680that you know he can't sign a deal right now because xi jinping hasn't told him to yet and
00:23:52.060he should just keep hitting him on that front that at the end of the day you have to insert a
00:23:56.380different world leader's name into the situation so it's not only about trump it starts being about0.71
00:24:01.680you know like you're saying china china china it starts being about xi jinping china uighur muslims
00:24:07.620the communists, the United Front Work Department, all this stuff that he his hands are tied. He0.83
00:24:13.460can't sign a deal because Xi hasn't told him to yet. Exactly. Make him look like the puppet that
00:24:18.660he really is. I like to say or I said once after the Davos speech, the infamous Davos speech he
00:24:25.280gave, you know, he was positioning himself as this kind of internationalist globalist.
00:24:29.780I have a little idea about things like that. To me, globalism, multipolarity, whatever you whatever
00:24:35.480name you want to call it, they're all variations of a theme. And what is it? It's to undermine and
00:24:40.040subvert American hegemony as like the leading Western power. And why is that? Because whether
00:24:45.880it's the CCP, whether it's Islam, whether it's leftism, they understand that the beating heart
00:24:50.420of Western civilization is the United States. You can argue about whether it's the ideas,
00:24:55.940et cetera, but what it can really come down to is the fact that they are the largest economic
00:25:00.000and military power on the planet. So globalism, I like to say, is actually just a face for Chinese0.67
00:25:04.980nationalism. And Mark Carney is really their representative here. He's, he's their man in
00:25:10.020Ottawa as the old film title goes. And again, like you said, this is really, when you bring up the
00:25:17.440China issue, you realize very quickly that the tariffs are not really about tariffs is another
00:25:22.560reason I think that the conservatives are a little stuck right now. And that doesn't mean that they
00:25:27.580have to remain this way. We all have choices, but they've become stuck operating within the liberal
00:25:34.180framework right now that's been set. So the liberal narrative is that this is just an economic trade
00:25:39.180war or this is all about tariffs. It's not about economics. It's not even about geopolitics.
00:25:44.120This is a civilizational question. Mr. Trump has been very clear it's about getting China out of0.73
00:25:49.560Canada for the good of the continent. He cannot have a national security threat on his northern
00:25:54.480border. And by the way, it's a national security threat to us as well. Mr. Carney at this point,
00:26:00.120I would argue, is a national security threat to Canada and Canadians everywhere. We have no idea
00:26:05.460what's going on in this country. Let's not forget we're 40 million people in one of the largest
00:26:10.320areas of the world. And China is very, very clear. They're not interested in our friendship.
00:26:16.540They don't like maple syrup and just love beavers and the Hudson Bay Company. No,
00:26:22.140they're using us as a pawn and a cudgel against America. They want to take our resources,
00:26:27.500rape and pillage them for their own benefit. And trust me, they have no interest in helping Canada
00:26:33.560with their sovereignty claims. And that's what I'm really worried about. I feel like there's a
00:26:38.260really easy way to end these tariff negotiations. And so look at Mr. Trump and say, see all these
00:26:44.560Chinese agreements we might have, we're about to light them on fire. So let's have like a special0.88
00:26:49.700trading relationship in light of that. And quite frankly, let's have some cooperation and
00:26:54.460collaboration with the greatest military that shares a border with us in helping us rebuild
00:27:00.200our defense sector, help us rebuild the Arctic right now. China's polar ice road is now going
00:27:08.720to be in full effect very time soon. This is a real threat to Canadian waters. And again,
00:27:13.940these are ways that we can actually reestablish our sovereignty in Canada. I want a Canada strong
00:27:20.160and free. And I think the best way to do it is with a friend like the United States.
00:27:24.460And here's one more missing ingredient I find that always gets lost in negotiating with Trump.
00:27:33.980There's no way of getting Canada into a winning position on the board without America winning too.
00:27:38.680But the thing is that so many people in the liberal establishment and the supposed conservative wing, the consultant conservatives, they don't want Canada to win.
00:27:49.200they want america to lose which is not the same thing at all they just want again trump to be
00:27:56.540grumpy with what we're doing they don't want canada to actually be moving forward and making
00:28:00.820gains here but you have to let trump feel like he was the main character of the negotiation but
00:28:07.940carney cannot allow that because carney needs to be like he wants to be like the number one guy in
00:28:13.340in in north america it's delusional he wants to be like the main story in all this and if you're
00:28:19.380dealing with trump you're not losing by letting him take the rhetorical win you are winning by
00:28:26.080getting the best possible deal and bragging about it two years later like exactly he's in cape he
00:28:32.860actually might have a bigger ego than donald trump i'm so glad you just said that that's exactly you
00:28:38.300stole the words right out of my mouth. Mr. Carney has a far greater ego and is much more sensitive
00:28:45.500to public opinion than Mr. Trump is. It's actually quite funny. I've noticed something about Mr.
00:28:53.320Carney. The attacks that really stick to him, first of all, they never come from Canadians
00:28:57.260because he doesn't care what we think, nor does it come from our Canadian media. It's always in
00:29:02.080the foreign press. When those foreign media objects, which is why I also like poking at him
00:29:08.240in American media, those things happen to stick. Why? Because he cares about his kind of cosmopolitan
00:29:13.800reputation. He doesn't care what Canadians think of him at all. So he's very sensitive paradoxically
00:29:18.840to American public opinion of him and European public opinion about him. So again, there are so
00:29:24.620many opportunities here, Wyatt, and I feel like we're just dropping the ball right now. I don't
00:29:31.400think that Canadians, when they voted for Mr. Carney, voted for a divorce from the United
00:29:37.460States. Diversification is one thing, but you notice that Mr. Carney never finishes his
00:29:41.840sentences. So he'll always say it's diversification, never explains to what. He says they want to
00:29:48.480control our sovereignty over non-market economies. Well, which one? Like you mentioned a few the
00:29:54.020other day, and I said the same thing on radio. I somehow doubt that the Americans care whether
00:29:57.880not we're trading with guatemala i'm quite certain it is china by the way a negotiation apparently
00:30:06.200people don't know what negotiation is a negotiation is two or more parties trying to get each other to
00:30:12.280do things they would not necessarily do without uh you know without basically you know carrots
00:30:18.840or sticks that is what a negotiation is they're trying to tell us who we can trade with and can't
00:30:23.480trade with okay well that's a that's sounds like an opening argument and now what are they going
00:30:28.680to give us for it or what are they threatening or what do they want us to do so that they don't care
00:30:33.560who we trade with that is the whole point of a trade deal because and here's the the the hypocrisy
00:30:40.040is strong with the canadian establishment because they if you question supply management they will
00:30:46.600say it's to protect canadian farmers you don't you you want cheap american dairy coming in and
00:30:53.880hurting our dairy sector hurting our farmers and then they'll say these americans are delusional
00:30:59.640thinking that canadian aluminum and steel is putting their aluminum and steel jobs at risk
00:31:04.280it's like i agree guys it doesn't it's just called a free market but i don't like tariffs at all but
00:31:10.760you at least need to act either they're all good or they're all bad i at least think tariffs are
00:31:15.720are good when it comes to national security reasons, but that's a non-economic tariff at
00:31:19.640that point. Well, so I get it. That's so funny that you mentioned that. I find that that's also
00:31:23.820missing both on the conservative and liberal side. Sometimes I think I should just become like a Trump
00:31:29.160translator in Canada because for good or for ill, Wyatt, I'm not sure what it says about me, but I
00:31:34.000feel like I understand the man very well. And it's probably a kind of mental illness of my own that
00:31:40.020I have, undiagnosed, of course. But it's a funny little thing to me. I think it's quite clear that
00:31:46.860for Mr. Trump, economic security and prosperity are national security issues. That's really what
00:31:54.480this is coming down to. And that's why you've heard them say previously, we don't care that
00:31:59.380you trade with China, but be smart and strategic about it. Let's not trade with them on, I don't0.99
00:32:05.440know critical minerals, natural resources, land, you know, there are things that are, that should
00:32:13.460be in, you know, non-negotiable in our trade with them. No one's ever denied that, but somehow
00:32:18.620they've kind of lost their mind. The country really isn't a kind of mass hysteria, but I have
00:32:23.420to ask you a question, which is probably, I don't know how many times your guests ask you a question,
00:32:28.580but I've been meaning to ask you this one. Okay. Okay. So one of the few conspiracy theories I
00:32:35.100hold, besides the fact that if I use enough reason, people will be persuaded. That's my
00:32:39.900top conspiracy theory that I believe. But number two is this. I understand that for many conservatives
00:32:47.260that they really blame Trump's 51st comments for the loss in the election. And you know what,
00:32:54.720Wyatt, I really did take that, it kind of imbibed that entirely for a very, very long time.
00:33:01.100But around spring, I've started to doubt and to reflect upon a little more. And when I reflect
00:33:07.040upon this, first of all, I have to remember the fact that it's coming from the losing party.
00:33:11.000And I didn't want them to lose, but it's coming from the losing party. So I have to take it with
00:33:15.260a grain of salt. But then I also started thinking about this. Did it help Mr. Polyev when Mr. Harper
00:33:21.820was insufficiently pro-Polyev and kind of like winking and nodding at the fact that he also
00:33:27.260was quite a fan of Mr. Carney. Again, not necessarily attacking Mr. Polyev, but we could
00:33:34.280have had such much more fulsome support from one of the elders of the conservative party and
00:33:39.600movement. Did it help when Mr. Ford, who represents one of the largest conservative
00:33:46.340provinces as premier was not just openly attacking Mr. Poliette, but again, openly supporting
00:33:53.180Mr. Carney during the race. Did it help the fact that there were other conservative MPs and
00:34:00.020premiers who, again, may not have supported Mr. Carney, but were at least silent against attacks
00:34:07.580against Mr. Pierre? I have a feeling that the divisions in the conservative party,
00:34:13.120that these same divisions which are being sown now and which are the only reason that the left
00:34:18.460can actually ever win in this country, I'm starting to believe, Wyatt, that that had more
00:34:23.300to do with Mr. Polyev losing than anything else. What do you think? We have to remember, too,
00:34:28.540that Mr. Harper is a partner at Wellington Advocacy, and you are going to have firms
00:34:33.680having probably interests in current contracts and grants with the current government. And when
00:34:40.260it comes to a lot of premiers around the country, it doesn't matter if they're conservative NDP or
00:34:44.640liberal, they're, they are on track to get grants and other sorts of major projects approved from
00:34:51.780the current federal government. And I think that there does end up being a perverse incentive to
00:34:56.100back whoever effectively the incumbent is, especially when that incumbent is a higher
00:35:01.220spender than the guy who might replace him. And on the Trump issue, did Trump cause the
00:35:06.620conservatives to lose the federal election i would say in the hierarchy of reasons that's maybe number
00:35:11.700five that's maybe number four i hate when people put that one as number one it's not the main thing
00:35:17.560and i've told this to the conservative party i've told this to peers off as the one i've had small
00:35:21.840brief engagements engagements with them it's policy it's nominations of candidates and it is
00:35:30.220also just the rhetorical softness in the election policy why the heck are we running on a two and a
00:35:38.800quarter percent rate cut for taxes under two fifty thousand dollars run on one percent and we're
00:35:45.100playing like prices right we're like two and it's like who cares i've told them you lost because
00:35:51.900households who make 150 000 or more and they have three kids and they have a mortgage and they
00:35:57.900promised their kids that I'm going to pay for your first year of university. Those people are
00:36:02.380struggling harder than the guy in his 20s who makes $70,000 a year. Those people are struggling
00:36:08.600more. And you basically said, I'm not going to cut your taxes. And so this is the thing with
00:36:13.280pro-life voters too. The thing is that the conservative party will think, well, they're
00:36:17.620socially conservative. So naturally they're going to vote conservative. But if you're a maritime
00:36:21.780pro-life voter and no party's running pro-life, you might drop down to your second most important
00:36:27.540issue which is your pension and now who are you voting for might not be conservatives and that's
00:36:32.200the problem is that when you basically the the conservative was left so many voids in their sort
00:36:37.260of policy documents that didn't really give uh you know um sort of upper income voters middle
00:36:43.360age voters anything to really go for it was almost like they were just hoping temperamental
00:36:47.360conservatives would like really turn out hard and that was it so we didn't really turn out the
00:36:51.840social conservatives any any big way we didn't really turn out the fiscal hawks in any big way
00:36:56.760we basically were the guys trying to turn out people tired of the liberals which was a big
00:37:01.900demographic but up against the elbows up liberals that's not the same prospect as Justin Trudeau
00:37:07.240and then the nominations oh let's have more Calistani candidates in Mississauga and Brampton0.98
00:37:12.200let's hope Hindus and Sikhs turn out for the guy who thinks Air India was probably an inside job
00:37:18.300like imagine you're in India and there's like a riding that's like 40 percent white in India0.98
00:37:24.600and then you run a skinhead as their candidate oh yeah that is what a calistani candidate is like0.52
00:37:30.140to the c community or and especially hindus it's like saying this guy represents you right he's0.67
00:37:34.820like he he says he represents the community we met him at a gudwara it's like yeah nobody likes him0.70
00:37:39.880he's a nutcase oh he says he's very pro-seek yeah the skin said says he's pro-white so what are we
00:37:45.320exactly about and also can i just also point out like you know i understand that the conservatives0.96
00:37:51.280have, you know, they want to focus on minority outreach or whatever you want to call it.
00:37:55.800And despite the fact that I hate politics by groups, I understand that pragmatically that,
00:38:01.380you know, it is what it is, let's say. But it's amazing to me that the one thing that that would
00:38:06.720actually work with these minority communities is to actually be a conservative. It's shocking to0.98
00:38:13.000me that they have not gone into the Sikh community. I will volunteer, okay? I still speak
00:38:17.500but it's amazing that, for instance, even the Sikh communities, they don't go in there and say,
00:38:22.720hey, do you know what they're teaching your kids in school? Do you want to see some books that
00:38:29.000they're reading in sex ed classes at the ages of like six, seven, and eight? And yet they won't
00:38:34.680touch those issues. And those are issues that, by the way, in a funny way, could talk about peace
00:38:39.580in the Middle East, you could bring peace between Hindu Sikhs and Muslims just on that alone, okay?0.98
00:38:44.060it's amazing that they don't take those opportunities again it's it's as if they've1.00
00:38:49.020never met a minority it's very odd I've always I'm always uh shocked or interested in who it is0.98
00:38:56.220that's advising them on these kind of minority communities it's again many many hundred dollar0.99
00:39:01.880bills on the floor and I have to say my the reason why I despise hearing that the 51st state comments
00:39:09.320were the reasons why Mr. Polyev sunk, it's very simple. I hate the idea that politics is not in
00:39:16.420your hands. What you're basically saying is that he had no choice and that because of an external
00:39:21.940force, he should have just resigned his fate, essentially that it was futile. I don't believe
00:39:26.660that politics is futile. I think there's a lot more within your control and within your hands
00:39:31.140and in your own agency and willpower than most people would like to give it credit for. So I
00:39:36.920would like to see the end of the 51st state hoax Wyatt and yeah and like it was there it gave the
00:39:43.020liberals a boost but yeah you don't just say oh something happened so we lost the game it's like
00:39:47.840well you what did someone cut off your legs and you couldn't finish the race like what are we
00:39:51.640talking about here and so like with when it comes to the last point I don't think I filled this one
00:39:56.580out but it was even like with just from the perspective of rhetorical softness okay let's
00:40:01.280say you don't want to run on boulder policy I don't know why you don't want to run on uh you
00:40:06.480know you don't want to run on uh well you don't want to let better candidates get through and all
00:40:10.500this stuff get on the debate stage at least and honestly just rip him to shreds stop this kind of1.00
00:40:16.660like i'm going to be very prime ministerial and very statesman like call him an idiot he was the0.99
00:40:21.220guy who was the economic advisor for five years and then threw christie freeland under the bus0.99
00:40:26.420you should have said that on the debate stage you were the one who thought the hst freeze was a good0.99
00:40:31.080idea you moron and now look at our current deficit and now you're going to walk out from the shadows1.00
00:40:36.000after telling Trudeau to do all this crap.1.00
00:40:37.720It's like, no, no, no, no, now it's for the good economic policy.0.99
00:40:41.060Like, he should have just made fun of him the entire campaign.
00:51:41.680I feel like that's, again, part of their issue with Mr. Polyev.
00:51:45.040It's not necessarily that Mr. Polyev is leader.
00:51:47.380It's the fact that Mr. Polyev has a new coalition and it doesn't include them.
00:51:52.220And that really goes to the heart of their issue.
00:51:54.780And again, I don't really care what their personal beefs are or their weird partisan issues of who their clients are, who their lobbyists are, which consultant groups they want to work for.
00:52:07.200I don't care. I just care about the country. I want to unite the right.
00:52:10.220And I don't understand, honestly, what the big deal is about having a difference of opinion on trade.
00:53:09.260It's kind of a heads-eye-win-tails-you-lose type scenario
00:53:12.220that even if you do get votes, it doesn't matter
00:53:15.000because you've somehow lost us a bunch of phantom votes we've never heard of before.
00:53:18.580Now, I mean, like, what? Really? I go door knocking a lot. I've never had anyone open the door and said, well, I can't vote conservative because of people like you or because of Jasmine Lane or because of Mark Nix.
00:53:31.740I just can't do it anymore because of what Ryan and Tanya Davey said on Northern Perspective. It doesn't happen.
00:53:38.080How many people have stopped voting liberal or left because of any of the creators that are on that side? It's a non-stupid issue, but the whole idea is that basically all these consultants on the supposed right are trying to desperately plead with kind of the politicians who are deciding, do I want to go with the grassroots, you know, the people actually in touch with the grassroots, or do I want to go with the consultants?
00:54:01.640they're saying, yes, they might be successful. Hear me anyways. Yes, they are getting more votes,0.92
00:54:08.600but I know how to get the secret votes. It's like, basically, it's a cult. They're like the
00:54:12.680secret knowledge people who have this Gnostic way of winning you elections by perfectly triangulating0.52
00:54:19.300you to like the nothing mushy middle. Oh, it's also one of my favorite aspects about it. First,
00:54:24.900I love the Gnostic restaurants. That's exactly what this is. They think they are. But then they
00:54:28.920always forget one thing, which is they've lost four elections in a row. I mean, at this point,
00:54:34.020you may as well pick up at somebody else's view because what you're doing is not working. And I
00:54:39.380don't think that they have confronted that idea yet that their image and their vision of both
00:54:45.220conservatism in Canada is simply not existent. And again, I look at a lot of these people and
00:54:52.580they were people that I used to not look up to, but I used to think, oh, okay, they must have some
00:54:57.920kind of secret knowledge. They're right up in the OLO. They have such close proximity to these
00:55:05.680people. Clearly, people are listening to them. And then when you actually get to know them and
00:55:10.620when you actually see them up close, you realize they're just like every other kid that was at
00:55:15.280Model UN, except it's just extended past adolescence and expanded into this. They have
00:55:21.540these delusions of grandeur and power, and they've been kind of corrupted by it, unfortunately.
00:55:27.340and it's a shame as well Wyatt because I noticed that they're not exactly open to debating these
00:55:33.240things if you've noticed they don't really want to have a conversation or a dialogue about it I
00:55:37.620don't mind talking to anybody about this stuff and I don't think you really have a problem doing
00:55:41.640that either but their unwillingness to do so also I think betrays the kind of weakness of their
00:55:47.040arguments and the fact that they're not willing to actually put it out there they're almost only
00:55:50.920in this game at this point one for the money and contracts but also for like the aesthetics
00:55:54.880of seeming like cool House of Cards characters or whatever.
00:55:59.200And can I say, this is mostly men in this group of kind of consumers.
00:56:24.140The type of people who wear boat shoes in Toronto, you know, the type of people who, like, you know, button their shirts all the way up to the top collar or whatever and, like, you know, wear skinny jeans.
00:56:35.780They all look like Andrew Tate a little bit.
00:56:38.360At the same time, they accuse people like myself of being in that kind of, like, influencer Andrew Tate kind of world.
00:56:44.760Which is funny because, you know, if they could, they would.
