00:00:00.000 I predict that Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberals are going to start suffering in the polls over the next couple of months after effectively surrendering to President Donald Trump on the trade issue.
00:00:11.880 It turns out Carney is not the Trump whisperer, despite claiming that he's dealt with Donald Trump before and that the Liberal government wasn't going to sign any old deal with the Americans.
00:00:21.620 we are only going to sign a deal that was great for Canadians.
00:00:25.060 Because all of that pie-in-the-sky rhetoric, all the elbows-up nonsense,
00:00:29.460 has pushed back getting a trade deal for a year and a half.
00:00:32.960 And now Canada has no leverage,
00:00:34.960 and Carney is currently giving significant concessions to Trump and the Americans
00:00:38.800 for effectively nothing in return.
00:00:41.920 I guess it's a very slight improvement over what Carney was previously doing,
00:00:46.820 which was just giving concessions over for absolutely nothing in return.
00:00:51.620 but it's not much better.
00:00:54.420 Check out this letter that Pierre Polyev released this morning going after Carney.
00:00:58.920 This is a massive victory lap for Pierre Polyev and the conservatives right now
00:01:02.980 because it was the conservatives being accused by the liberals and the media
00:01:08.320 of being too soft on the Americans because they weren't going along with the elbows-up nonsense.
00:01:14.620 Elbows-up is not a synonym for being tough or playing negotiating hardball.
00:01:19.860 Elbows up is just anti-American nonsense.
00:01:22.920 Elbows up is very much represented by people like Laura Babcock and Charlie Angus,
00:01:26.540 who never wanted to trade with America in the first place.
00:01:29.500 And they were using the tariffs as an excuse to say, 0.73
00:01:32.240 screw them, let's go trade with China instead.
00:01:35.120 Peter Polly of here says, 0.86
00:01:36.620 Prime Minister, time for results on trade.
00:01:39.160 Zero tariffs on lumber, steel, aluminum, and autos.
00:01:42.980 You promised it, now deliver.
00:01:45.920 Now, no doubt the liberal media is eventually going to still say that,
00:01:49.620 oh, Poliev's being so unrealistic here.
00:01:52.220 You can't get those things from Donald Trump.
00:01:54.340 He's too unreasonable.
00:01:56.280 Then why did the liberals promise that that's what they could get in the first place? 1.00
00:02:01.540 Either they're skull-crushingly ignorant or they were lying. 0.99
00:02:07.260 Now, I actually don't think Trump is that unreliable. 0.99
00:02:10.600 I don't like the tariffs.
00:02:12.180 At the same time, he's very consistent in what he wants.
00:02:16.100 He wants a win.
00:02:17.860 Last year, we could have made some concessions to him in exchange for zero tariffs.
00:02:22.560 He would have been able to rack up a very quick and easy win on his new tariffs push
00:02:27.740 and being able to boost his polls in America.
00:02:30.480 You wouldn't even have to give up very much.
00:02:32.080 We could even give up things we didn't like in the first place, the DST, the streaming
00:02:35.920 tax, supply management.
00:02:38.020 And then he gets to say, oh, look, I won.
00:02:40.100 we get to avoid the tariffs, and we got to jettison a bunch of taxes that we don't like
00:02:44.500 anyways. But instead, we were in pursuit of the perfect deal, where we give up absolutely nothing
00:02:50.200 and they drop all the tariffs because we sat around like this, saying elbows up enough.
00:02:56.120 But what do I know? I guess I'm not the Trump whisperer that is Mark Carney. I want to take
00:03:01.760 you guys over now to a CBC news segment, or maybe do I want to jump over to something else first?
00:03:08.500 No, we're going to do the CBC segment right now because despite every CBC panel basically being three leftists and a sort of conservative, everyone on this panel sounds somewhat conservative just because Carney's failure is so total, it's extremely difficult to defend.
00:03:26.420 Now, actually, Ginny Roth on the panel is a real conservative.
00:03:29.200 I just say that because sometimes they have people like Andrew Coyne and Fred DeLore who are barely conservative in any way.
00:03:34.540 But despite this panel being hosted by Katie Simpson and having a Trudeau advisor on it and a Globe and Mail opinion writer, it sounds like a Conservative Party convention.
00:03:46.660 Not because they're supporting the Conservatives, but these are the same criticisms the Conservatives have been making for the past year and a half on Carney's strategy that they were being skewered for and accused of not being patriotic.
00:03:57.760 ...new details about some of what's going on behind the scenes with Canada-U.S. trade talk.
00:04:03.360 Sources tell us the federal government is prepared to make concessions, including asking provinces to put U.S. booze back on the shelf,
00:04:10.480 but only if the Americans meet some of Canada's demands.
00:04:14.420 Earlier in the show, we asked Ontario Finan...
00:04:16.380 By the way, do you know what those demands are?
00:04:18.620 Our concessions are in favour of basically nothing.
00:04:21.760 We're going to make concessions on supply management, which I don't like anyways, but use it as a bargaining chip.
00:04:26.980 we're going to get rid of it we're going to like reduce some of our retaliatory tariffs on autos
00:04:32.180 and all that in exchange for the americans just simply not increasing tariffs so we are effectively
00:04:37.140 embracing the current awful status quo because carney was too flat-footed to actually try and
00:04:42.960 challenge the tariff situation a year and a half ago when he first became prime minister
00:04:47.680 and now now we're like we're having to give up the booze thing as well which is going to cause
00:04:53.000 a fight between Kearney and the premiers who had invested all of their political capital in puffing
00:04:58.440 out their chests against Donald Trump and saying, I'm taking the bourbon off the shelf.
00:05:02.160 Finance minister about that. Our resolve is firm to keep U.S. liquor off the shelves until we see
00:05:09.320 the details of a comprehensive deal. We want to see that and then of course we'll come to the
00:05:14.860 table and give the response. The office of the Quebec premier also put out a reaction saying
00:05:21.440 the removal of U.S. products from the SAQ shelves will remain in effect until an agreement that we
00:05:27.160 deem fair has been negotiated. The sale of alcohol falls exclusively under the jurisdiction of the
00:05:32.720 government of Quebec. It is Quebec and Quebec alone that will make this decision. Time now for
00:05:38.460 the power panel, John. So this doesn't bode well for Prime Minister Mark Carney. The fact that he
00:05:43.620 is jumping so quickly to make these concessions for very little makes it seem as if Carney,
00:05:48.720 at least in his desperate state feels like this is all he can actually get and feels pushed into
00:05:54.780 the corner probably by economic factors that we are not privy to yet that unless he makes this
00:06:00.360 deal things are just going to go hog wild in a bad way by the time august 31st rolls around and
00:06:06.560 the new tariffs are applied to us and then we have all these premiers basically acting like well you
00:06:11.320 know carny can't push me around i'm gonna be elbows up if i want to and the whole thing is 0.97
00:06:16.100 just garbage the booze ban was stupid in the first place if you want to use it as leverage they took 0.97
00:06:21.780 way too long to actually use it because they allowed the american liquor industry who was hurt 0.99
00:06:27.260 by this but they allowed them an entire year of basically getting used to it which allowed them
00:06:33.040 to probably find other markets to ship their stuff to they're probably still not making as much money
00:06:37.640 as they could but that's the problem if you let something become the status quo for too long they
00:06:42.120 get used to it and it was never a big enough jab in the first place but now we may end up having
00:06:46.520 an open war between carney the quebec premier doug ford david eby wab canoe and whoever the premier
00:06:54.520 of new brunswick is and some of the other premiers in order to basically because carney is betraying
00:07:00.720 the elbows up coalition that they're all part of it's gonna be very funny to watch this i think
00:07:06.060 halis was a quebec advisor to former prime minister justin trudeau jenny roth is a former
00:07:10.860 conservative campaign strategist. And Marika Walsh is a senior political reporter in the Globe
00:07:15.960 and Mail's Ottawa Bureau. Jono, I'm going to start with you. What do you make of what we may see from
00:07:21.760 the provinces, that statement there from the Premier of Quebec's office? Is this going to be
00:07:28.460 a major obstacle if the Canadians say to the Americans, okay, we'll lift the ban, but the
00:07:32.840 provinces might not be on board? Do you think there's an election coming up in Quebec with
00:07:38.500 that statement and the way the last two sentences are there about how it's up to Quebec. It's
00:07:43.120 Quebec's jurisdiction and they're the ones who are going to decide. What kind of comment is that?
00:07:47.580 Like that is like the most limp thing he could say right now. He's trying to take a shot at the
00:07:52.900 Quebec premier when the real problem here is Prime Minister Mark Carney. All of this is only
00:07:59.020 happening in part because Carney had endorsed these actions last year. Now he'd become a little
00:08:04.780 more mum on it recently probably because he knew he was going to give it up but he's trying to go
00:08:09.280 after the Quebec premier I've I have not studied her naming enough because she's brand new after
00:08:13.720 taking over for Legault but like really oh can you tell an election's coming up as if like look 0.98
00:08:19.920 at her playing cynical politics what do you think elbows up was moron that was cynical politics to 0.98
00:08:26.780 win votes what oh it's now it's bad because it's going in the opposite direction of Mark Carney 0.99
00:08:31.700 the elbow don't the elbows up base and realize that mark carney's trying to keep his approval
00:08:35.680 ratings up and he needs all of the premiers to betray the elbows up base along with him
00:08:40.620 like oh my goodness guys they've been gaslighting this group of elbows up voters for a year and a
00:08:46.220 half and now when carney's trying to bail over the side of the ship a bunch of the premiers are
00:08:50.280 like not letting him leave it's hilarious i mean it's pretty standard but uh you could tell the
00:08:57.240 sort of upping the ante um i'm kind of i would say i'm not particularly surprised by any of
00:09:03.400 what we're hearing is being negotiated it sort of stands sounds reasonable in terms of
00:09:09.520 it was never going to be a perfect deal
00:09:11.640 that's what he promised he promised a perfect deal whatever we talk about oh i'm not surprised
00:09:22.520 by any of this why aren't you blowing the horn like a year ago saying that all this elbows up
00:09:26.920 stuff as nonsense because we're not going to get a perfect deal anyways, so let's make some
00:09:30.860 concessions now when the concessions may actually be considered more substantial bargaining chips
00:09:35.920 and we can get to zero tariffs. I've said it before, Trump views Mark Carney like a broken
00:09:41.700 vending machine. Every time he kicks it, he gets something out of it, and that's something that
00:09:45.620 he's only learned over time. If we had actually played hardball early on but moved quickly to
00:09:51.880 try and get to a negotiated deal, we could have actually probably gotten a lot without having to
00:09:56.040 give up a lot. And those things we gave up, at least if you're conservative, you'd probably be
00:10:00.200 happy to get rid of anyways. But now he's trying to like enter the room and be like, oh no, I always
00:10:04.960 knew that this was going on the entire time. Oh, absolutely. This was always inevitable. We weren't
00:10:09.000 going to get a perfect deal. Okay. Well, Carney promised a great deal, that a good deal wasn't
00:10:14.280 good enough, that, you know, we're not going to sign a bad deal that's not better than what we
00:10:18.940 had pre-tariff. It's like, okay, okay, that's a fine goal. How are you going to get to it? Because
00:10:24.440 you've been sitting around on your butt for a year and a half pretending like trump was just 0.99
00:10:28.720 gonna like run up to you get on his knees and be like oh my goodness i'm gonna remove the tariffs 0.99
00:10:33.080 and give you back i'm gonna give you 100 billion dollars as compensation i'm so sorry like that
00:10:37.960 seemed to be like the actual thematic like way the liberals had kind of thought of all this
00:10:43.140 unless you're laura babcock and charlie angus where secretly they always just wanted to not
00:10:46.900 trade with the u.s and the tariffs were a great excuse i don't like the tariffs trump was wrong
00:10:51.220 for putting in place the tariffs.
00:10:52.680 But I always hate when people bring up,
00:10:54.160 well, this was Trump's fault.
00:10:55.600 Okay, now what are we gonna do?
00:10:57.780 Because I'm sorry,
00:10:58.480 we can't have flipping prime minister incompetent
00:11:01.260 over there messing it all up
00:11:03.060 and then just saying, well, I didn't do that.
00:11:04.940 Trump was the one who put the tariffs in place.
00:11:06.840 Well, then get out of the way.
00:11:08.160 Then leave the prime minister's office
00:11:10.080 if you're not willing to deal with the hand
00:11:12.580 that has been dealt to you.
00:11:14.160 We're like sitting around,
00:11:15.280 like screaming about how we wish we had different cards
00:11:17.340 and we're allowing the game to go on and on and on.
00:11:20.000 we haven't played a single one and then we start playing like a year and a half later and it turns
00:11:24.100 out we're not very well set up to winning the game anymore there was going to be give and take
00:11:28.640 we don't really know what this will look like you know this i trust the sourcing of the stories but
00:11:34.640 we don't know what a final deal will actually look like we just actually he's sitting on the channel
00:11:39.520 that followed up on the globe and mails reporting and found out it was basically just to avoid
00:11:44.140 further tariffs that's it we're not reducing any current tariffs if we reduced any i really doubt
00:11:49.840 it's going to be anything substantial in for what we're giving up in exchange you use your
00:11:55.240 concessions as chips to get other chips from your opponent but we keep giving them chips for either
00:12:00.280 nothing or for so that for not for like effectively nothing like we're avoiding some future that has
00:12:06.720 not happened yet and we're we're sacrificing game pieces for it you know these are things that are
00:12:11.920 on the table that are you know open for discussion how far and how wide it goes i i think we're still
00:12:17.680 far away from that. And, you know, Brian Cloud said at the beginning, he's not he's not going
00:12:21.560 to bet on actually a deal before the deadline. So, you know, I think this is demonstration that
00:12:28.160 there is some movement. But on the other hand, this is also, I think, preparing Canadians for
00:12:33.560 the fact that we're not going to go back to where we were a year and a half ago, where there were
00:12:37.300 no tariffs at all. This is again, no liberals promise to try and get to zero tariffs. That was
00:12:45.020 the big promise that launched them back into office in 2025 and he's basically saying the
00:12:51.960 quiet part out loud we are now having to prepare all the elbows up Canadians not all Canadians
00:12:56.640 conservative Canadians have been very sober-minded about this the entire time that you may not get a
00:13:01.640 perfect deal that negotiating a deal is the only way to negotiate a deal you can't sit around
00:13:07.180 hoping that one's going to land in your lap but now the liberal Canadians the NDP voters and many
00:13:12.280 of the Bloc Capicova voters are having to be prepared for the disappointment that's coming
00:13:17.000 because they have been fed lies for the past year and a half by Mark Carney and his team.
00:13:23.140 Sort of an interim step and we'll see where things go.
00:13:27.640 Ginny, one thing that Pierre Pauly of the Conservative leader had flagged earlier this
00:13:32.860 week is that he is concerned that Canada has given up, made too many concessions and that
00:13:37.360 it was whittling away its sort of bargaining power. Do you think that the reporting that
00:13:41.260 we've learned today that that perhaps that might be something that he'll he'll sort of seize on as
00:13:46.220 as he criticizes how he's gonna seize on it i always hate when they cover stuff this way it's
00:13:51.320 that thing you sometimes hear in america oh it's the republicans pounce narrative oh are is poly 0.81
00:13:56.700 going to seize on this is he going to jump on the story and exploit it for his own disgusting
00:14:02.680 political aims it's like no yes being correct is a way of seizing on the political moment you know
00:14:10.800 telling the truth being right well ahead of time that tends to do you know good things for you in 0.73
00:14:16.600 politics but she had to frame it katie simpson here is paulia going to seize on this thing is 0.96
00:14:22.060 he going to seize it around the neck and choke the life out of it and kill a small child in because 0.97
00:14:27.060 of this this new development is he going to wrap his hands around the canadian around the neck of 0.99
00:14:33.620 canada because of what's going on like i hate the language they use it's always the implication of
00:14:39.060 sleaziness on behalf of conservatives for being good at politics we basically and that's that
00:14:43.920 heavily reduces the effectiveness of conservatives in canadian politics when the media spends
00:14:49.060 everything they do right as some sleazy political maneuvering the government's handled the canada
00:14:54.940 u.s relationship i think so i mean jano gets at the challenge for all the politicians involved
00:15:01.200 um the politics is very different from the reality and that challenge is much worse for
00:15:05.540 prime minister these premiers get to whether they have an election soon or an election down the
00:15:10.180 road they get to make this entirely political because they're not the ones that have to do the
00:15:13.700 deal and they love the politics of playing tough um the prime minister loved the politics of playing
00:15:19.300 tough during election campaign um but now that he actually has to come up with a deal he that
00:15:23.300 doesn't work for him right he has to compromise um so i'm glad to see it i think it's good i think
00:15:28.420 there need to be compromises but i think he eroded that position when he was doing all that theater
00:15:33.300 for all those many many months um in the lead to becoming prime minister and then ultimately through
00:15:37.540 the campaign and that now that he's since prime minister and i think that's going to be the point
00:15:40.420 that pauliev's going to try to make is you can't have it both ways you can't you can't say your
00:15:44.740 elbows up get the political theater get the political benefit and then also be the person
00:15:48.900 that's that's um that's compromising you know not included in this reporting because it happened
00:15:54.100 earlier maybe it was but not as part of the deal was coming up on the dst um uh you know all these
00:16:01.220 sort of uh concessions that we that uh the prime minister made up to this point where we heard
00:16:06.500 oh maybe we're going to get a deal now um the americans have asked for this we're going to do
00:16:10.500 it those concessions already happened we can't get those back and now we have fewer and fewer
00:16:14.580 and i i remember the media previously saying well in the gordy hill bridge thing and the streaming
00:16:19.300 tax and all these things oh well you know what's his name uh jameson greer the u.s trade
00:16:25.220 representative oh he's so mean for saying on on a panel that canada doesn't get any you know bonuses
00:16:31.620 or benefits for those previous concessions that we made that's so mean and it's like it's the
00:16:36.260 prime minister's job to make sure a concession that he makes gets a counter concession in return
00:16:42.180 we they get something but we get something too that's what that's the law you could have laid
00:16:46.900 down with trump at the beginning that's how you play tough while also being pliable enough he
00:16:51.300 he wants to work with you okay hey you want to win trump you want to get a you want to get some
00:16:57.000 trade wins before the midterm election so you will have the republicans get republicans getting
00:17:01.360 re-elected in the house in the senate well i need a win too because you need to be able to figure
00:17:06.300 out a way of getting allowing me to get to zero tariffs and you need to figure out something i
00:17:10.840 will give you something and you have to be able to figure out how you can declare victory over it
00:17:14.680 that's what we should have been doing but to it the elbows up thing needed trump to lose because
00:17:20.200 liberals hate him so much they couldn't allow for trump to declare victory on anything that goes on
00:17:25.640 in the trade negotiations that has been the toxic element throughout the entire thing we haven't
00:17:30.580 been showing up to trade meetings that like mexico is going to because the liberals can't make it
00:17:35.840 look like the trump administration is legitimate they can't legitimize them by showing up when the
00:17:41.360 when the trump administration wants them to come over because the liberal base is too in the mindset
00:17:46.900 that no, screw them. We shouldn't talk to them. Canadians aren't vacationing down the United
00:17:51.480 States. So we're not even going to show up to the trade negotiations going on in D.C. along with
00:17:56.280 Mexico. But Mexico has been getting a lot of what it wants. They're actually ending the trade issue
00:18:01.180 faster for themselves because Claudia Scheinbaum has been directly negotiating and playing hardball. 1.00
00:18:07.380 Things on the table to play around with. And we know that the PM doesn't want to move really far 0.98
00:18:13.100 supply management so maybe he's willing to make some tweaks so i'm curious to see what what what
00:18:18.220 is beyond the reporting that we've already seen because we also know that the president uh drives
00:18:22.700 a hard bargain and he's not likely to settle for sort of going back to the status quo uh marie k
00:18:27.260 it was the globe and mail that first broke this story this morning um i'm just wondering what
00:18:30.940 stood out to you from the beer the the reporting that your team has done on this as well well we
00:18:36.060 we have more reporting and updates coming tonight and i think what stands out to me
00:18:39.900 is that, as Janine and Jono mentioned, the Prime Minister will have to make concessions in this,
00:18:45.700 and it wasn't part of his branding coming into office. And public opinion polling shows it's
00:18:50.620 not where Canadians are. The Prime Minister's office has not done a lot of groundwork laying
00:18:54.700 in terms of setting expectations for Canadians in terms of the concessions and the possibility
00:18:59.420 for pain as part of this deal. And by the way, we've actually already discussed this on the show
00:19:04.940 when in an abacus data poll we had found we found that they do their issue polling where people
00:19:10.000 choose their top three issues and then it shows the percentage of people on each of those issues
00:19:14.040 who include it in their top three back when the conservatives were actually starting to lead in
00:19:18.580 the polls again around september october november of 2025 that's when the trump and his administration
00:19:25.860 issue in the abacus polling issue in the abacus polls had fallen down to about 22 percent of
00:19:31.240 Canadians put it in their top three. Right now, it's 37%. The last time it was that high was in
00:19:38.300 early 2026, when the Liberals jumped up by, they were 12 points ahead in the Abacus data poll.
00:19:45.040 Now they're only ahead six, despite the fact that 37% of people put Trump as one of their top three
00:19:51.440 issues, and the Liberals were plus 12 back when it was about 39%. So it's pretty similar, and yet
00:19:57.740 the liberals are no longer seeing the benefit. And that was back just with the news of the Gordie
00:20:02.680 Howe Bridge. Now add the complete surrender on the streaming tax, and now this concessions for
00:20:07.760 effectively nothing, it's going to get even worse. It doesn't matter if Trump and his administration
00:20:12.860 keep going up in the polls as an issue, the liberals are no longer the default choice
00:20:18.360 for the party that you want to handle Trump. It has been very close to the chest what that
00:20:25.860 means. And so that leaves, I think, Canadians in the dark. And it leaves a question for me
00:20:29.600 politically as to how they now sell this to Canadians. But one of the things we're starting
00:20:34.580 to hear is that a baseline across the board tariff is part of the talks on the broader USMCA.
00:20:40.720 I'm sure that doesn't come to you as a surprise, Katie. But the fact that people are now acknowledging
00:20:45.040 that, I think, is really significant. Now, I don't even think we necessarily have to accept that.
00:20:50.120 We only have to accept that in the world where Mark Carney messed everything up and didn't use
00:20:54.840 early leverage in order to get something. He had gone to the White House and sat in the old office
00:20:59.660 twice, and he didn't use that. He didn't use that moment to say, you know what, Trump in front of
00:21:04.480 the cameras right here, can we get to zero? Can we do it? We're partners. How about let's figure
00:21:09.500 this thing out? You know, like the thing is that I'm not going to stay reasonable for very long.
00:21:14.080 If this doesn't take me too long, maybe I'll just start going and trading with China or the Europe,
00:21:17.860 and I'll do something else, and I'll just take the pain because this is too hard to deal with.
00:21:21.020 He had never used any moment he had to play tough, to become more friendly, to try and make some concessions for things in return.
00:21:30.160 He just wasted everything, and that's why we're at the situation we're in.
00:21:34.040 And it's funny seeing all the media talking heads, except for conservatives like Ginny Roth, now acknowledging, well, you know, this is always going to happen.
00:21:41.660 Again, you guys attacked Jamil Javani.
00:21:44.380 You attacked Pir Paliyev.
00:21:45.680 You've attacked Shavloy Majumdar.
00:21:47.340 You've attacked tons of other conservatives, federally and provincially, for stating the obvious.
00:21:53.080 And it leads to more questions about what else.
00:21:55.500 Again, this is early.
00:21:56.920 Talks are still ongoing.
00:21:58.000 They're changing by the day.
00:21:59.580 So who knows where this lands?
00:22:01.280 But we are hearing more and more from Canadian officials that some form of tariff is going to be here to stay.
00:22:08.060 Yeah, so our reporting also has that American officials, they expressly said to the Canadians, as long as Donald Trump is the president, there will be some kind of tariff that is involved here.
00:22:22.380 Right now, we understand it to be around the 232 tariffs and the steel and aluminum.
00:22:26.480 Those are not going to be going away.
00:22:28.020 But the question is, can the Canadian team get those lowered?
00:22:31.520 Our reporting has been through industry sources that the Canadians want to be able to go out there publicly and say, we have the best market access to the Americans.
00:22:44.080 We have the best market access to the Americans regardless.
00:22:46.800 We're over their northern border.
00:22:48.780 What are we talking about?
00:22:49.660 That's such a wimpy goal. 0.96
00:22:53.040 We want to be able to go out there and say we have the best market access.
00:22:55.700 like oh yeah i can't believe canada beat out the congo for market access with the united states i 0.73
00:23:02.740 can't believe we beat out sweden for market access to the united states it's so dumb i thought we 0.79
00:23:07.900 still had the best trade deal with the americans as carney kept saying making excuses for why he
00:23:13.300 wasn't working hard to try and negotiate a trade deal with the americans ah it can be put off till
00:23:17.380 later you know who cares it's no big deal because we already have the best deal still now some
00:23:24.040 liberals are really not taking this very well. Here's Andrew Coyne on CBC trying to basically
00:23:32.400 fabricate, or I think it's somewhere else, but he's trying to fabricate a conspiracy theory now
00:23:38.320 for why these concessions are being made and why the news is going around the media. Check this out.
00:23:46.480 Well, I've been trying to rack my brains about this. And, you know, anytime you see a story where
00:23:50.340 If something is revealed from inside, the first question is, why does somebody want this to be revealed?
00:23:55.440 So the fact that there's this story now in the globe about how we're about to make all these concessions, you start to wonder.
00:24:02.500 And so this may veer into the realm of conspiracy theory, but could one reason be you leak that you're going to make concessions so as to firm up Canadian public opinion against the concessions?
00:24:15.060 maybe you want to show the americans uh i actually don't have a lot of room to negotiate here uh if
00:24:21.640 you're asking for these concessions look at the reaction i'm getting in my from my canadian public
00:24:25.640 is he delusional this is the weirdest conspiracy theory ever somebody has leaked this now to the
00:24:33.320 press to show donald trump that like canadians are like the realms of rohan and we will not stand we
00:24:39.740 will not bow to the forces of mordor that you represent so you better give us something for
00:24:44.920 nothing. And it's like, oh, this man is published in the Globe and Mail Weekly. This man is paid
00:24:51.860 to be on CBC news panels. Oh, no. Oh, no. This man is allowed to speak in public. He's paid for
00:24:59.180 his opinions. Oh, no. I can't necessarily do that. So that's one possibility. Second possibility is
00:25:05.120 you're setting up the talks to fail, but you want to look like you're the ones who were prepared to
00:25:10.440 go the extra mile you were being reasonable you were making concessions and it was only because
00:25:15.200 of the intransigence and then you know irrationality the other side that you weren't able to come to a
00:25:19.260 deal why have we been making concessions for nothing in return up to this point andrew like
00:25:23.820 can you can your political theory actually try and cover the reality that's actually occurring
00:25:28.900 so there may be an effort there uh um maybe it's designed to try to shape public opinion
00:25:36.000 uh in the united states in the run-up to this uh to these um uh to these midterms you know the
00:25:43.120 the maga people and trump in particular are going to great lengths to try to to present
00:25:48.400 canada canada and canadians of all people as the bad guys uh so you saw this eruption from trump
00:25:54.000 about how nasty we are which i think a lot of canadians i think it was nasty five times in a
00:25:59.600 row entered nasty nasty nasty i don't as i say i think in their current mood a lot of canadians
00:26:06.460 wouldn't mind being thought of as as nasty by by donald trump and that's really what it is there's
00:26:12.320 a lot of people out there who carney has been playing to for a long time who just want to feel
00:26:17.400 like rebels with a cause we want to run it we're we're here to fight back against donald trump and
00:26:23.540 we're doing it one bottle of Canadian club at a time instead of drinking Jack Daniels? It's like,
00:26:30.560 okay, man, I don't like the tariffs. But I also don't want to just pump my fist in the air and
00:26:36.420 be like, man, we're standing up against the big orange bad man. How about we try and get a good 0.76
00:26:41.580 deal and, you know, stand up for Canadians? How about we try and do that? Rather than standing
00:26:46.460 up against Donald Trump, how about we do something for Canadians? Because that's really what's going
00:26:50.100 on here, is we have a bunch of people who could care less about what happens to Canadians. They
00:26:54.980 just want to stand up to Donald Trump. Now, I liked the response Chevalier Majumdar, the
00:27:00.660 conservative Canada-U.S. trade critic, had put above Pierre Polyev's message that we had read
00:27:06.980 earlier. He said, Prime Minister Mark Carney, we proposed a plan to actually and objectively
00:27:12.300 strengthen Canadian economic and national security to negotiate with Washington and the world.
00:27:18.340 a good and comprehensive deal for our people a country that is that is strong at home for
00:27:24.020 unbreakable leverage abroad Canadians deserve a government that has the backbone to fight for
00:27:29.200 our workers our families and every inch of our sovereignty take our plan take the credit just
00:27:33.520 deliver and I think this is good messaging that the that the conservatives and I've been
00:27:37.620 complimenting them on this since they kind of changed their trade messaging around like March
00:27:42.660 or april or so where car or now poly of is being the backseat driver intentionally to kind of get
00:27:50.180 under the skin of mark carney basically saying hey why are you why are you doing that how do you try
00:27:54.200 doing this oh well you know you you know you shouldn't be making that concession you should
00:27:57.920 be doing that just constantly give him ideas because he doesn't want the ideas but but just
00:28:03.920 by constantly acting helpful you can basically point out how much he's screwing things up in a
00:28:08.300 friendly tone so that some of his base might actually think well you know that's actually
00:28:11.940 a pretty good idea, Mark. Why don't you listen to Piripolyev? And they'll get frustrated as Carney
00:28:16.040 keeps doing the opposite of the reasonable ideas that Piripolyev is putting out into the media.
00:28:21.420 Now, I also want to, now here's another thing that Chavloy had posted yesterday over the clip
00:28:27.900 of that CBC, over a clip that came out of that CBC panel that we had just watched. Chavloy says
00:28:34.760 concessions because he failed to define the terms for North America as conservatives recommended.
00:28:40.420 the politics of playing tough at the expense of building actual strength as conservatives
00:28:44.820 recommended having negotiated for a weakness and wasted a year and a half the cost of two
00:28:50.040 Canadians of Prime Minister Mark Carney's side adventures are now being laid bare and like what
00:28:55.400 were those side adventures it was going to Indonesia and literally like talking to the
00:29:00.340 Prime Minister of Luxembourg and Benin to try and get trade deals with them improve relations with
00:29:06.260 luxembourg because that's going to replace the americans that was so funny the other day they
00:29:11.360 had actually announced on their own website that our foreign affairs minister anita anon has a new
00:29:17.400 trade deal signed with benin and all we have to do is send an ambassador and a team for a consulate
00:29:23.780 in a country that we only have exports to to the tune of 77 million dollars like the the consulate
00:29:32.240 alone the ambassadors and the staff might end up eating up like a quarter of that money absolutely 1.00
00:29:38.380 ridiculous that we ended up signing anything with them it's not bad but it's such a stupid 0.98
00:29:43.040 consolation prize when we're not negotiating with the americans when other countries have proven 0.99
00:29:47.620 you can get a lot out of dealing with them directly but carney is terrified of trump 0.99
00:29:51.800 because trump's some stupid bore and i'm mr sophisticated and so mr sophisticated doesn't 0.98
00:29:57.940 want to look like he got played by Donald Trump in any way why do you think he's in Italy he wants 1.00
00:30:03.020 to distance himself from the crap that is currently going down no Andrew Coyne this is not some sort 0.95
00:30:09.480 of conspiracy to turn Canadians even more against Trump and then break Trump's will like he's the 0.98
00:30:15.380 king at the end of Braveheart who dies in his bed after hearing Mel Gibson yell freedom or whatever
00:30:21.520 that's not going to happen here but uh i want to now jump over to some of the things that we are
00:30:28.080 seeing from the elbows up liberals i find it very telling none of them have really commented
00:30:33.840 on the concessions past slight insinuations that they maybe don't like this because they've been
00:30:39.600 trained to not like this laura babcock here says u.s booze back on the shelves canadians say hell
00:30:45.740 no should be doubling down on the boycott it's time to give trump and hoagster concessions
00:30:51.160 it's no time to give trump and hoagster concessions also has the u.s invaded green
00:30:56.100 invasion of greenland started now now she's saying that like probably a little tongue-in-cheek of 0.94
00:31:01.360 like oh the u.s is so pathetic they haven't invaded greenland and denmark it's like 0.69
00:31:05.480 because they never want to do that i'm sorry laura to break your heart but trump is actually 0.97
00:31:10.440 not evil like you think he is i don't agree with everything he does but he's not like
00:31:15.260 the cartoon character you think he is here is a liberal i haven't checked in with uh for a while
00:31:20.540 uh this liberal shul vicky campbell has had me blocked for like two years at this point
00:31:25.040 i've noticed even though she usually tweeted tweeted a lot over the past day or two it's
00:31:32.580 kind of trickled and she's not posting very much about the current trade situation lots of shots
00:31:39.700 the americans here and there and posting like democrat propaganda you know anti-trump stuff
00:31:45.260 no no posts about the trade concessions that's very curious oh wow it's very very strange that
00:31:51.920 she's not celebrating the great deal that mark carney is negotiating here's another one peter
00:31:57.420 radcliffe forever canadian unlike his hair he is forever uh peter radcliffe you go down here and
00:32:03.600 it's like he says if the u.s a company or government has landed equipment on greenland
00:32:09.100 without proper approvals then greenland denmark should dispatch military to seize the illegal
00:32:13.580 contraband immediately and arrest the smugglers the u.s is actually allowed to move military
00:32:19.140 equipment onto greenland whenever they want that's actually always been the funny thing about trump
00:32:23.200 kind of making slight jabs at greenland about how we should just take it over is that the u.s has
00:32:28.400 always been allowed to basically build military bases wherever they want with a little bit of
00:32:32.220 permission which really doesn't matter all that much they just kind of have open permission
00:32:35.900 anyways but i go down here and it's like 11 hours ago and he's trying to you know promote all the
00:32:42.780 jobs mark carney has supposedly created how great it is uh reposting stefano barris here showing
00:32:49.360 this insane ecos poll being modeled out that's not even close to reality you know just sharing a lot 0.92
00:32:55.280 of stuff about how the u.s sucks and how conservative suck nothing not actually about 0.90
00:33:01.240 nothing here about actually like the the current trade deal although he did share this globe and 0.96
00:33:06.700 mail article from the 6th that kind of contradicts what's going on right now where it says carny not
00:33:11.060 interested in narrow u.s trade deal okay um well apparently we're not getting a narrow one we're
00:33:17.860 getting a microscopic one we'll need a magnifying glass to figure out what we actually got after all
00:33:23.160 of this it's so funny all these people who are now avoiding the fact that we clearly are not
00:33:28.740 getting anything out of this. Check out this chart. I've actually gotten into it with this
00:33:33.480 guy a couple of times. I find he can be a bit curmudgeon against more orthodox conservatives,
00:33:38.020 but he's definitely not a liberal. Ron Butler here. I liked this chart he posted. This was
00:33:44.880 about the jobs report, and it's kind of what I was saying on the show, even though I didn't have all
00:33:48.680 the information. Just from the passive following of the issue over time, I kind of knew that all
00:33:54.140 the celebrations of the job numbers were kind of fake. Ron Butler here says, let's not be fooled
00:33:58.720 by the headlines of job reports. There is a boom in two provinces. It's largely resource-based and
00:34:04.440 well-deserved by two provinces the Trudeau government looked down on for 10 years.
00:34:09.120 However, the rest of Canada job creation is as crappy as we feel it is. And this is cumulative
00:34:15.480 employment growth since January 2025. By the way, that's already when jobs were a little bit
00:34:22.100 depressed because some of the trade threats and some of like Trump's sort of like what was going
00:34:26.800 on with Trump coming into office. That stuff was already kind of affecting the Canadian economy a
00:34:31.000 little bit negatively. But since January of 2025, Alberta and Saskatchewan have had accumulated job
00:34:40.240 growth of 2.6% when combined. 2.6% average job growth in those two provinces. The rest of Canada,
00:34:48.660 not including Alberta and Saskatchewan, have had 0.1% job growth. This is what I have been saying.
00:34:55.700 When you see 75,000 jobs created and, oh, look, a lot of them are in Quebec and British Columbia, it's subsidy jobs. It's subsidy jobs trying to get some of the jobs back that we had lost. We're not getting any new jobs. We're simply digging out of the hole that we have been in because Carney refused to negotiate a trade deal.
00:35:12.500 But the media was just like, oh my goodness, he's so amazing. I can't believe all the great things that Carninomics is doing for this country. I'm so jazzed up for the future now. And we've basically been just sitting in neutral since he became prime minister. It's ridiculous.
00:35:27.620 He benefited massively from the fact that right when he became prime minister, that's right when a big hit to our job market happened.
00:35:34.760 So right after that, any recovery, he can make it look like massive growth when we're just getting the jobs back that we used to have.
00:35:41.620 We have had slight job growth since January 2025, and all of it is pretty much concentrated in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
00:35:49.640 In fact, that's where a lot of good things are concentrated.
00:35:53.020 Reductions in drug deaths, reductions in crime, job growth, like, you know, actual homeownership.
00:36:00.620 All of it's in Alberta, pretty much. Alberta and, to a lesser extent, Saskatchewan.
00:36:05.340 Anyways, well, that should be it for this video, guys.

00:36:16.480 It makes the channel more sustainable for me, and I appreciate everyone who is already a member of the channel, especially during the summer because ad revenue just, like, drops off the cliff.
00:36:25.360 It's not like, you know, I'm going to, like, die tomorrow if you don't become a member.
00:36:28.780 Don't do it if you're, you know, living on a fixed income as a senior.
00:36:32.300 Don't bother with it.

00:36:35.140 But it does help basically allow for the summer months to not be as noticeably kind of down overall.
00:36:40.400 But I'm not going to bore you with the details of back-end YouTube analytics.
00:36:44.580 Well, with all that being said,
