The National Telegraph - Wyatt Claypool - Carney is just boring Trudeau - Freeland vs Carney is so hard to watch

00:00:00.000 i take your time yeah i'm gonna take my time no i think in the end it's not um because in the end

00:00:09.620 in a relationship i'm gonna keep the relationship oh my god if we're gonna film did you just get

00:00:14.360 out of therapy what is happening mark carney is a particularly boring individual that's why i think

00:00:22.880 we saw him soft launch his liberal leadership campaign on john stewart's the daily show it's

00:00:29.240 very telling about these metropolitan liberal elites that for all their talk about loving the

00:00:34.860 canadian legacy media and especially the cbc and believing the cbc deserves even more of your tax

00:00:41.280 dollars that when they need press attention they go down to new york city and appear on an american

00:00:47.360 television show it shows that these people know that canadians do not actually watch the legacy

00:00:53.080 media but i want to take you through some clips of this interview today it's definitely not the worst

00:00:58.980 interview i've ever seen far from it but it shows the weaknesses of mark carney as a politician

00:01:05.320 he's the former governor of the bank of canada and the bank of england he is a lifelong bureaucrat

00:01:11.560 and it really shows in this interview conservative party leader pure polyev is going to clean him up

00:01:17.960 because polyev is a real character his personality carney needs his safety blanket john stewart sitting

00:01:25.860 there to make it seem like he might be interesting by osmosis but anyways before we get into some of

00:01:32.380 these clips guys reminder like this video subscribe to the channel i have a goal of getting to a hundred

00:01:38.100 thousand subscribers by mid-december so help a guy out like the video subscribe if you haven't

00:01:44.840 and without further ado here is mark carney on the daily show welcome sir uh i welcome you to our land

00:01:54.080 america we are soon to be well there was a border when i came john when was the last time you checked

00:02:03.140 twitter uh so you you uh i don't think it's an exaggeration to say that 80 of this interview

00:02:11.760 is just inane banter between mark carney and john stewart but make no mistake that is the real

00:02:18.580 purpose of the interview mark carney is a very stiff bureaucrat and so he is here basically to seem like

00:02:25.720 every once in a while mark can still loosen his tie and just be one of the guys and it doesn't really

00:02:32.600 work again he's not terrible in this interview and every once in a while he says something that's

00:02:37.780 you know decently charming kind of funny but he's always having to follow the lead of john stewart

00:02:43.580 his safety blanket here once mark carney is not on a light night television show set he's gonna go

00:02:50.840 back to being the world economic forum guy the guy who sits on stage and just talks about boring policy

00:02:57.940 detail for hours on end boring policy detail that is meant to make your life worse by the way

00:03:03.100 because remember this guy is the economic advisor to justin trudeau everything that has happened that

00:03:09.900 was bad in the last two years can be blamed on mark carney just as much as it can be blamed on trudeau

00:03:15.820 or christia freeland what what are they making up there of the overtures and sort of trolling to

00:03:23.300 canada about being a part of the united states well i mean the bottom line it's not going to happen

00:03:28.920 uh due respect um that the overture i mean uh because you don't want you don't want well we

00:03:38.000 we're we're proud we find you very attractive um but we're not we're not moving we're not not

00:03:45.860 moving in with you it's it's not you it's us um we have we do things a little differently in

00:03:55.400 canada we we believe in i just want to tell you before you go any further i'm up for it we're up

00:04:00.420 for it whatever you do differently we want to experiment too what do you guys want i don't know

00:04:05.580 if the audience had just gotten back from the dentist's office before taping this show because

00:04:10.740 they cannot stop laughing at some of the middest jokes i've ever heard in my entire life but this

00:04:16.560 is like half the jokes told in the entire 19 minute interview oh it's not you it's me are you breaking

00:04:23.780 up with me do you want to move in together relationship joke relationship joke can we make

00:04:29.520 the marriage work it's so forced and mark carney can't even really deliver these lines smoothly he's

00:04:37.100 like falling all over himself even in these clips and i get it it's a casual show but this is mark

00:04:43.960 carney at his charismatic best and i would still say he has like half the energy of justin trudeau

00:04:49.880 now i don't like justin trudeau i would way rather have pier poliev as the prime minister

00:04:55.180 obviously i'm a conservative but justin trudeau wasn't this kind of stiff when jokes were being

00:05:01.540 told he could actually kind of roll with the punches a little bit he could actually be kind of loose and

00:05:07.560 fun i don't like him and i don't find him fun in interviews because you know what he he's done to

00:05:12.320 the country but this is just kind of meh again this is what is supposedly causing so many liberals on

00:05:19.260 social media to be like yes this man is brat this man needs to be the leader of the liberal party

00:05:24.800 pure poliev is scared of this man because of this john stewart interview in which again they make the

00:05:31.340 same joke over and over again but i'm gonna fast forward to when john stewart asks him are you gonna

00:05:38.320 run to be the leader of the liberal party and mark carney's like i don't know i've been thinking about

00:05:43.980 and the audience is like woo woo yeah we don't know who you are but you're gonna run for something

00:05:50.180 woo it's bad right now there is is turmoil uh trudeau has resigned yes uh there will be new

00:05:59.320 elections when do you know when the new elections are uh they have to be by october they could come

00:06:04.060 sooner sooner than october sooner than october yes what would be the trigger of the election sooner

00:06:09.640 well uh it would be likely the choice of the uh current governing party which is the liberal party

00:06:15.880 sorry but before we get to john stewart asking carney if he's going to run for the liberal party

00:06:21.960 leadership i just have to talk about this clip where carney being such a party guy cannot even admit

00:06:28.600 that the thing that's going to trigger an election early is the conservatives the bloc and the ndp

00:06:34.420 basically forcing an election through a no confidence motion he is such a party guy that he

00:06:40.240 has to say well you know it'd be the government's choice on whether we go for an early election or not

00:06:45.680 because he can never admit to the unpopularity of the liberal government having the opposition trying

00:06:52.000 to force the election asap in fact it is the liberals who are trying to hold on for dear life

00:06:57.900 and want the election to happen as late as humanly possible are they looking for a new leader

00:07:04.920 i i think they might be john sir may i recommend to you with your charm and debonair uh wit yet strong

00:07:14.960 financial backbone that you offer yourself uh as have you offered yourself as as leader

00:07:21.600 how much did mark carney pay john stewart to do this interview this is just propaganda

00:07:37.740 mark are you thinking about running for the liberal party leadership

00:07:42.320 well john i had just started thinking about it i'm not sure what i'm gonna do your own staffers are

00:07:49.020 leaking to the canadian press that you're announcing your official campaign start on thursday in

00:07:54.640 edmonton but john i just started thinking about it really me i should run and john sitting across the

00:08:00.820 table with all your wit charm and good looks you should be the next prime minister of canada the

00:08:05.820 next unelected prime minister of canada well i'm gonna think about it john thank you for being the 0.99

00:08:11.420 everyman to recommend me as the next prime minister of canada this is just stupid does anyone watch this 0.95

00:08:20.300 and think wow this is such an organic moment between john stewart and mark carney like i know that they 0.98

00:08:26.460 kind of know that the audience knows that mark was already going to run but at the same time doesn't

00:08:32.380 this just make you look like the most manufactured candidate on the planet the only way we could make 0.98

00:08:37.440 this look more manufactured is if kamala harris came out and said mark are you gonna run to be

00:08:43.840 the prime minister of canada and stop canadian trump we would love it if you would do that that's the only

00:08:50.380 way that this could look more establishment is by having some corporate democrat walk out and say can you

00:08:56.820 be our avatar in canada it's bad but here is them now talking about pure poly of the leader of the

00:09:03.620 conservative party uh and this will this will blow your mind so uh the conservatives are run by pierre

00:09:10.740 poly of yes did i say that correctly yes it's a fictional jk rowling name at best pierre poly of

00:09:18.120 this is and this always fascinates me i want to show this this is so trudeau obviously the other guy is

00:09:24.840 pierre poly of it looks like and he is trudeau's rival yes they look like two fictional boy school

00:09:34.740 rivals in like or like poly of seems like a villain in a like karate kid movie like there's something

00:09:44.700 very very off-putting this failed attempt at a joke has convinced me that it was actually justin

00:09:52.620 trudeau who was originally supposed to be sitting across the desk from john stewart here after trudeau

00:09:58.720 announced that he was going to be resigning in march they swapped him out with mark carney but john's

00:10:04.820 people had already made up the bristleboard comparison between trudeau and poly of because

00:10:10.200 were those really the jokes that john stewart wanted to go for there trudeau and poly of look like

00:10:16.260 high school rivals poly of looks like a karate kid villain really poly of looks like the villain from

00:10:24.700 the karate kid yeah um poly of known blonde person looks like the villain from a karate kid poly of is 0.99

00:10:34.020 the most normal looking person you could possibly find in fact i think the original joke here if trudeau

00:10:40.840 was on set would have been about how trudeau is this handsome man and poly of is this dorky looking

00:10:47.260 accountant type guy who's trying to be cool but you can't make that joke when mark carney sitting

00:10:53.240 across the desk from you because mark carney is an actual dorky accountant who's trying to be cool

00:10:59.720 on this very show with john stewart what is he like in person

00:11:04.140 take your time you're not you're not you're not far off this is what i mean about mark carney being

00:11:15.180 really stiff and uncharismatic both john stewart and carney cannot come up with an actual joke about

00:11:22.140 pure poly of all they have is a lame reference that doesn't even track right i can come up with

00:11:28.660 better jabs against carney off the top of my head right now he looks like a tv movie prime minister

00:11:35.120 he looks like if you created a person out of a pocket protector i can do funnier things on the fly

00:11:42.720 than john stewart and mark carney can put together on a television show where they've been preparing for

00:11:48.880 this for probably over a week my goodness um uh he is

00:11:54.440 he is there is i'll say this yes there is a type of politician there's you have a few of them here

00:12:03.880 in the united states i think we just stop it yeah uh they had a lot in and around brexit

00:12:09.420 yes and uh we have mr polyev uh in canada type of politician who's you know tend to be lifelong

00:12:15.760 politician really tend to worship the market they've never actually worked in the private sector 0.96

00:12:21.680 right um and they see opportunity and tragedy like you just had with the california fires these horrible

00:12:28.580 fires okay i'm just gonna level with you guys this becomes very difficult to listen to

00:12:34.820 i don't even know what carney's trying to get at uh polyev is one of these politicians that you guys

00:12:40.800 have too it's a career politician and they're around brexit and they like to exploit tragedy

00:12:47.660 california wildfires he goes on to talk about how polyev when covid started saw this as an opportunity

00:12:54.480 to cut spending and eliminate our social safety nets i don't even know what he's talking about

00:13:00.740 he's just using generic liberal talking points that you know conservatives want to push your

00:13:06.120 grandmother down the stairs they don't like you they want to hurt you they want to cut all the

00:13:11.320 services that you rely on what this is just inane again it's like he doesn't actually have a good

00:13:18.060 attack line against polyev so he's just throwing stuff out there again this is the person i keep hearing

00:13:23.740 from liberals on social media is actually a real go-getter this guy is somebody who keeps pure

00:13:30.440 polyev up at night because he's scaring him he's dynamic he's charismatic he's charming and he knows

00:13:37.520 policy really well even though his policy track record of what he was advising trudeau to do has

00:13:43.420 been abysmal he later also tries to call himself like an outsider in this interview or basically

00:13:49.720 insinuate he's a political outsider i'm not a career politician like pure polyev is

00:13:54.560 gerald butts is your campaign chair or manager team trudeau is behind you you are being artificially

00:14:02.840 propped up into the prime minister's office if you win there's actually still a solid chance he 0.89

00:14:07.580 doesn't win and somebody equally as incompetent as like christia freeland wins that would be hilarious 1.00

00:14:13.640 that christia freeland is actually considered the fresher face between her and mark carney but is

00:14:19.700 demonstrating the weakness of carney that he needs all this assistance he has no brand his only brand

00:14:25.840 is the trudeau brand which nobody likes yes polyev is deeply afraid of this man who he can attack

00:14:32.780 with every line he was already using against justin trudeau because this is basically justin trudeau's

00:14:39.200 brain trust although there's not many brains in there well now see the headwinds for this more

00:14:44.720 right-wing populism though are all around the world and it feels like canada is is no different

00:14:49.420 there i mean did trudeau bow out because he knew he wouldn't win is is this an attempt to give the

00:14:58.920 the liberal party there a chance i i think it does give the liberal party a chance yes right and he did

00:15:05.900 that purposefully yeah he came to that yeah he came to that conclusion he came to that conclusion

00:15:13.480 or nancy pelosi called him and said it was somewhere somewhere in the middle at least there is a little

00:15:20.980 bit of truthfulness in this interview yes there is a zero percent chance that justin trudeau steps down

00:15:27.600 as prime minister without outside pressure it was probably the donor class of the liberal party

00:15:33.720 who forced trudeau out trudeau knew he was going to lose the next federal election but was probably

00:15:40.180 staying in hoping to heroically martyr himself for the progressive cause but when the donor said that

00:15:47.000 we're not giving you any more money well he at least wants to martyr himself in luxury he wants his

00:15:53.240 campaign to be well funded but if all the donations dry up well he'll find something else to do and mark

00:15:59.660 carney can be his new avatar in the prime minister's office because mark my words mark carney will be

00:16:06.500 doing everything trudeau tells him to do once he steps in as prime minister because although carney

00:16:11.900 considers himself a numbers guy he also has zero leadership skill have you decided to run yet because

00:16:19.640 a lot of people in the liberal party in canada have said specifically they will not run i think they

00:16:24.320 fear the headwinds in this election well have you decided i wanted can i say one thing on that i want

00:16:29.020 to defend uh very because this is very important points now i'm going to cut off mark carney's very

00:16:34.360 important point and sum it up for you more succinctly here he is making excuses for why other people

00:16:40.900 are not running he starts naming people like steve mckinnon and melanie jolie and others who have said that

00:16:47.100 they are not running for the leadership of the party and says well it's just because they're so focused

00:16:51.440 on the current crisis with the united states no it's because they know they couldn't win the

00:16:56.820 leadership because you're the one being coordinated by team trudeau and some of them have even said that

00:17:02.660 they're not running again like anita anand because they can't win that's the real reason it gets so bad

00:17:09.680 with how much mark carney is avoiding saying he's running for the liberal party leadership that later

00:17:15.220 john stewart just says well thanks for announcing that you're running for it on the show even though

00:17:21.260 mark never says it i'll even show a clip right here he just says well congratulations and then

00:17:26.520 the interview kind of awkwardly ends you and you're being so coy with me i love the chase

00:17:31.680 i love this cat and mouse well we had to shake things up we are we are having a we've spiced up

00:17:37.300 our relationship tremendously throughout this interview so congratulations on announcing on

00:17:44.380 this program that you are running to be the leader

00:17:48.300 yeah so the interview was very meh and thanks to john stewart for finally just cutting to the chase

00:17:59.060 and saying yes you are running for liberal party leadership mark carney is so indecisive he can't

00:18:06.020 even realize that this is probably the moment you should announce that you're running but in his mind

00:18:11.120 he's thinking but my team has already planned my official announcement event in edmonton why are you

00:18:17.740 waiting so long the cutoff for memberships is on january 27th and you're fooling around wasting time

00:18:25.800 so that you can do an official announcement like way too late i don't get it although i guess he doesn't

00:18:32.200 have to worry too much because christia freeland has also not announced at this point because both of

00:18:37.420 them are not leaders they are indecisive they are fussy they are very peevish about how they do things

00:18:44.660 the the thought that this guy is just going to be able to become the prime minister never elected 0.99

00:18:50.500 before just going to be whisked into office is absolutely pathetic and it really shows where canada 0.74

00:18:56.720 currently is where justin trudeau has brought us down to but anyways that should be it for me today
