00:00:00.000You have to understand that the Canadian legacy media and the Alberta NDP are actually pro-independence
00:00:07.620referendum. They're just pro-independence referendum in fall 2027. You see, it's impossible
00:00:14.420for Premier Nahid Nenshi to happen unless the referendum happens on the same ballot as the next
00:00:21.040provincial election. That is why there's all these challenges trying to delay the vote October 2026
00:00:27.420because Nenshi wants to wrap himself with the Canadian flag in the next provincial election
00:00:32.440and imply that if you are voting against Alberta separating,
00:00:36.600then you must also vote for the NDP because they're the patriotic party.
00:00:41.320This is the only reason they're attacking Daniel Smith for having to vote.
00:00:44.480They're actually just extremely angry that it's happening this year and not next year
00:00:49.500because they wanted all of the fear-mongering that they're currently doing in the election year,
00:00:54.340not the year before the election year where it turns out to be a big nothing burger and people
00:00:59.660move on with their lives and the NDP actually have to run on good policy. They have none.
00:01:04.720That is why we have segments like this on the CBC playing up the potential risks of foreign
00:01:11.060interference in the referendum. There is none. An expert saying that there is a risk doesn't
00:01:17.880actually mean anything has happened. It means an overpaid person at a university said something.
00:01:23.420But before I get into that segment and an awful CBC interview with Alberta NDP leader Naheed Nenshi, I just quickly want to do the normal plugs.

00:02:08.840I know that I'm kind of a little bit later than a week with some people and I've let them know
00:02:12.720it's just because the cellular where I'm at is not great, so I don't want to risk calling you
00:02:17.600and then the calls are breaking up and dropping. Well, now let's get into the CBC segment.
00:02:23.240Albertans will go to the polls to answer 10 referendum questions, including one on whether
00:02:28.180they want the province to stay in Canada or hold another binding referendum on independence.
00:02:34.420Disinformation experts have been raising alarms about the risk of foreign interference in such
00:02:38.660vote ever since alberta separatists began pushing for a referendum shouldn't that immediately tell
00:02:45.060you that it's fear-mongering disinformation experts have been warning about foreign interference
00:02:51.540since they started pushing for a referendum so right when they started pushing for a referendum
00:02:56.580their spidey senses started tingling they're like oh my goodness i can see now from the from the
00:03:02.740dark shadowy places of my mind that that vladimir putin and donald trump and probably xi jinping
00:03:10.020and the ayatollah and probably whoever runs cambodia these days are laos they're probably
00:03:15.220colluding to try and get alberta to separate from canada no you have nothing you're just speculating
00:03:21.940we pay these people money at universities to just sit around speculating about garbage like this
00:03:27.140and then sending quotes into the media but i won't i won't get in the cbc's way of telling
00:03:32.420their story here. In June, opposition leader Nahid Nenshi wrote to the Canadian Security
00:03:37.400Intelligence Service, or CSIS, asking for regular updates on any referendum meddling attempts from
00:03:43.020foreign actors. Nenshi posted the response he received from CSIS and says, in part,
00:03:48.880democratic events such as the upcoming referendum could create the conditions foreign actors seek
00:03:53.800to exploit, such as through the use of myths and disinformation, to advance a narrative aligned
00:03:59.320with their objectives. Then she says CSIS is limited in what information it can release,
00:04:03.860but is satisfied to hear the agency is asking for evidence from the public.
00:04:08.680Do you guys realize what this is? I'm actually going to cut off this video now because I want
00:04:13.120to get to the full interview that he ended up doing with, I think it's Katie Simpson.
00:04:17.920That was a nothing response from CSIS. They basically told him nothing's happened because
00:04:23.180he said, I want updates on if there's any attempts at foreign interference in the referendum vote
00:04:28.180this October. And then CSIS basically said, well, yeah, I guess around any election there could be
00:04:34.540foreign interference trying to shape the result. That's basically what they said. They just
00:04:38.360basically affirmed that the concept of foreign interference exists and foreign countries in
00:04:44.820theory would maybe want to interfere with a vote, which is like one of the most obvious things that
00:04:50.400a foreign government would end up doing if they want to mess with a country's democratic systems
00:04:55.180or its institutions you know target its elections get you know a ccp operative nominated into the
00:05:01.020liberal parties uh for the liberal party in a specific riding or whatever that was literally
00:05:07.660nothing and yet we have two two cbc segments both on live television as well as on their youtube
00:05:15.740channel promoting the nothing that he got back that would be like asking i don't even know what
00:05:23.100what this is the equivalent of it's like just random concerned citizen asking the
00:05:27.160police if there is like I don't know a drug house in their neighborhood and
00:05:32.220then the police get back to you and say well you know oftentimes abandoned houses
00:05:36.240can be the locations of people trying to set up drug operations and the person's
00:05:39.900like oh my goodness there's drug houses all around me it's like no that they
00:05:43.220were just they said no but you know if you know abandoned houses around your
00:05:47.260neighborhood keep your eyes peeled that's all they basically said to Nenshi to you
00:05:51.420to give a different example but now let's get into this other cbc segment it's absolutely embarrassing
00:05:58.300that they actually uh put this thing out in fact like i don't even know why they like nenshi can't
00:06:03.740even get his own camera to work properly during this new segment and he is the leader of a major
00:06:09.340party in alberta canada's intelligence agency is raising possible red flags over alberta's
00:06:15.900upcoming October referendum no they did not they did not they affirmed the concept of foreign
00:06:22.800interference is real and then they said technically it could happen around elections they didn't say
00:06:29.040that there's any actual real tangible risk around the referendum vote who would screw with it we
00:06:35.400have paper ballots in Alberta there is no way of messing with the results a great reason to have
00:06:40.900paper ballots counted by hand. What are we even talking about? That is just pure slop propaganda
00:06:48.480from the CBC pretending like, oh my goodness, Daniel Smith is really putting the province of
00:06:53.720Alberta and unity of Canada at the hands of the Russian government. Like that's what they want
00:06:59.320you to take away from this, but they can't say that because this is fluff. There's nothing to
00:07:05.080actually go on. There's a generic letter from the CSIS that would probably be given to anyone
00:07:09.780who asked about foreign interference in any election doesn't matter it could be the election
00:07:15.960to uh for like the mayor of charlatan and if you asked about foreign interference although i actually
00:07:20.940think there is foreign interference in pei if i do remember that there are some issues with the
00:07:25.180ccp there but regardless if there was an election in a calluit for the mayor of a calluit and you
00:07:30.420asked about foreign interference ccss if they got back to you would probably have just said the same
00:07:34.280thing yes foreign interference can happen around elections uh but we don't we don't have any
00:07:38.580evidence for this one and that's what they sent to Nenshi. Alberta's NDP leader has shared a letter
00:07:44.920over social media that he received after reaching out to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service
00:07:49.920directly. In the letter CSIS director Dan Rogers says that democratic events such as the upcoming
00:07:55.840referendum could create the conditions foreign actors seek to exploit. Nahed Nenshi is the Alberta
00:08:02.920NDP leader. Dude, could or might are like the watchwords of segments like this. Oh my goodness,
00:08:10.520something could happen and they might, and a foreign actor might want to mess with it.
00:08:15.960Okay, cool. Do you have money? Then there is a criminal who might want to steal it from you.
00:08:21.820And he joins me now. Thank you very much for taking the time to speak with us.
00:08:26.080You know, what stood out to you in this letter and why did you decide to go public with it?
00:08:29.840Well, you know, we had asked CSIS about 68 weeks ago to give Albertans, not just me, give Albertans a little more information on whether they considered foreign interference in this referendum a threat and what they were doing about it.
00:08:45.180Now, this letter is sort of a bureaucratic letter, but I've said...
00:08:48.840Yeah, you were flatly rejected in the nicest tones possible.
00:08:54.420And yet we have him here sitting on Santa's knee, Katie Simpson, talking about how, like, why did you decide, why, Mr. Nenshi, did you decide to break your silence?
00:09:25.460He just has this weird way of, like, popping and locking his wrists and whatnot
00:09:29.220as he, like, closes his eyes and rolls his neck around, like it's, like, barely staying, like, stable.
00:09:34.940He's like a baby when he moves his neck around, but I'll stop taking shots at him
00:09:38.200and let him make his very pedantic point here.
00:09:40.880I've had enough time working with police services in my political career that I can kind of read between the lines.
00:09:46.620And to me, this letter suggested they are, in fact, taking this seriously, that there are a number of things that they're looking at.
00:09:52.800Of course, they can't talk about active investigations.
00:09:55.520But what was critical to me is they actually said, if people have evidence of foreign interference, here's how to contact us and let us know.
00:10:03.600And I thought it was very important for Albertans to be able to see that.
00:10:07.160That's obvious. Of course, you could report it to CSIS.
00:10:10.880This is like him getting on the news and saying, did you know that if you see a crime in progress, if you see evidence of a crime, you're allowed, you're allowed to call 911 and tell the police about it.
00:10:23.780Wow, really? Really, Mr. Nahid? Wow, we should make this man premier.
00:10:28.060He let the public know that CSIS, in fact, is not a black box that you cannot interact with.
00:10:35.000You're, in fact, allowed to send them information.
00:11:21.760People create faceless channels where they just pump out slop content that appeals to people who are into any given topic,
00:11:30.560hoping that they can get views out of them.
00:11:32.340There are people who do this for entertainment content.
00:11:34.480They start faceless, crap channels that just put out slop content,
00:11:38.980hoping they can get you to watch for at least a few seconds so they get their YouTube ad dollars.
00:11:43.320That is what those YouTubers from the Netherlands were doing.
00:11:46.900And by the way, sorry, which Alberta separatist has solicited foreign interference?
00:11:54.840Jeff Rath has gone down to the United States a few times.
00:11:58.020Now, I have made my thoughts known on Jeff Rath many times.
00:12:01.260I don't support the independence movement, but I actually feel bad for people who support independence because there are people like Jeff Ratharound who are not helping the movement.
00:12:11.640He goes around making a figure of himself going down to the United States, getting media attention, going on television to basically just get into fights with people and not really promote the ideas of independence.
00:12:22.020And he's been basically heavily undermining the movement and alienating voters on the fence.
00:12:28.620but he's not engaged in foreign interference oh he went to a secure facility in washington
00:12:34.240yeah it's called a government building in washington they're all secure you know he
00:12:39.280wasn't meeting someone out in a lawn chair on the on the lawn of the white house of course he's
00:12:43.560going to meet somebody in some secured office space he's met with nobody of importance and he
00:12:49.600was pretty much laughed off the the united states as they're going to get to here says they have
00:12:53.860like absolutely no interest in interfering in the Alberta election and they have no opinion on it
00:12:58.820and they're not going to advocate for anything in regards to Alberta independence. We had a report
00:13:03.200in early May from a watchdog saying they were very concerned about Russian and American
00:13:07.160interference in this election. Certainly in by-elections that we had last year in Alberta,
00:13:13.260there was a real sense that the separatists were getting directions and or money
00:13:16.780from somewhere else and there are persistent rumors. Oh my goodness, there's a lot of senses
00:13:21.360out there my goodness all of the weasel words here could just create an entire weasel based zoo
00:13:28.560we could have just weasel exhibits all over the place weasels in different in different fantasy
00:13:33.680environments that we build up in our weasel based zoo we could do it easily with all of the weasel
00:13:38.640words that nenshi is putting out here political circles about funding for the separatist cause
00:13:44.080on top of all of that of course there was a giant data breach i think the largest in canadian
00:13:49.160history, where we now know that some Albertans voting information, which includes their address
00:13:54.780and personally identifying information, was available on a U.S. server affiliated with some
00:14:00.120far-right movements in the United States for up to a year. So we know the RCMP is investigating.
00:14:06.200I'm sorry, that's not the biggest data breach in Canadian history. Some idiots took the voter list
00:14:12.660that is available to all parties in Alberta elections, the Republican Party of Alberta,
00:14:17.280then gave it to the centurion uh initiative or movement that's led by david parker and they
00:14:23.720ended up leaking the list now this some people are like oh it's just like the phone book it's not
00:14:28.780it's still bad but at blowing this out of proportion like it's the biggest data breach
00:14:33.460there was an opponents there are opponents of the movement's names or put it out online like
00:14:37.620what do you think people are going to go show up with pitchforks and torches to the house of people
00:14:41.560who don't support separatism and they're going to get murdered oh they're going to go and kill
00:14:45.560Jason Kenney any day now. It's embarrassing that he thinks that this is somehow going to create
00:14:51.300momentum for the NDP. I'm sorry, this was not a very severe case. Yes, people's addresses and
00:14:59.540phone numbers and emails got leaked that way. That's bad. At the same time, this has nothing
00:15:06.120to do with the Alberta government. And by the way, things like this have happened many times before.
00:15:10.440That's how I know it's not the biggest data breach if we consider this like an official, like, you know, like a data breach.
00:15:17.840Parties have fudged lists and handed them around all the time.
00:15:24.240But acting as if this was like the 9-11 of data breaches for Canada is absolutely ridiculous.
00:15:31.120We know Elections Alberta is investigating, but we thought it was important that there be a foreign interference lens on this as well, which is why I wrote to CESUS.
00:15:38.120I want to talk to you about the Trump administration in a moment, but when CBC reached out to Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's office, her press secretary described this, says what you're doing is fear-mongering.
00:15:51.380Well, he said two things which don't go together.
00:15:53.860He said that I was fear-mongering, but also that two very senior cabinet ministers were on it.
00:15:59.180So if I'm fear-mongering and there's nothing to worry about, why are we appointing two senior cabinet ministers to look after something that's merely fear-mongering?
00:16:07.340That's like saying, why do we have a police department if there's not a giant riot happening in the streets?
00:16:13.380You have police to make sure not to only enforce the law against active criminals, but to also dissuade crime by having a presence, by showing that if you commit a crime, you will get arrested and prosecuted and put in prison.
00:16:27.880You have people involved in basically combating potential disinformation and foreign interference to basically show we take it seriously.
00:16:36.360If it happens, we're on it, mostly because of the whining of the NDP.
00:16:42.140There are tons of positions that exist in governments that the person may not have nothing to really do day to day, but if something serious happens, they're going to jump into action.
00:16:49.940That's like saying, why do we have people involved in emergency response when there's no emergency going on?
00:16:57.880because an emergency might happen that doesn't mean an emergency is happening this man wants
00:17:03.640to be the premier of alberta i have to keep reiterating that this guy with the with an
00:17:10.600the funny thing is he actually is a fairly intelligent man but the way the man acts in public
00:17:16.040would have you believe that he probably is not qualified to check out people at a grocery
00:17:21.320counter in reality the response of danielle smith and the provincial government is inexplicable
00:17:28.680how hard is it for any democratic government to say we believe in free and fair elections
00:17:33.860and we will make sure there is no foreign interference it's pretty simple instead they
00:17:38.660attack their opponents the premier's chief of staff who accompanied her to mar-a-lago
00:17:43.180on his honeymoon yet uh wrote a big long essay on twitter that didn't say anything other than
00:17:49.100the NDP is fear-mongering. Wow, it sounds like we should lynch Rob Anderson because he said that
00:17:54.100you're fear-mongering. You are fear-mongering. Like, why is it so difficult to say we should
00:18:00.480have free and fair elections? Daniel Smith has said that many times, and she is against foreign
00:18:04.680interference and disinformation, obviously. Like, but they play this game unless you literally use
00:18:12.060every single exact word that they use, then they'll be like, oh, see, she doesn't even believe
00:18:16.740in fair elections. She's basically inviting foreign interference in because she didn't
00:18:20.540literally use 100% of the same words I used in the same order to denounce foreign interference.
00:18:26.320The foreign interference that we have zero evidence is happening.
00:18:30.420Don't we all believe that elections should be free and fair and we shouldn't have foreign
00:18:36.260interference? Why is it so hard for this government to say that?
00:18:39.680You cite your concern with the Trump administration and some of those meetings that have taken
00:18:44.260place. But just last month, the U.S. ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoekstra, he had said that the U.S.
00:18:50.140is staying out of this and tried to sort of dispel that the Trump administration is getting
00:18:54.440involved. Do you believe him? Do you take him at his word? Well, you know, part of having the
00:18:58.520conversation in public, I think, is to set guidelines, to set parameters for what we will
00:19:04.320and we will not accept as Canadians. So certainly when the Treasury Secretary was talking about
00:19:08.900Alberta independence, when a random congressman from Tennessee who shouldn't even know where
00:19:14.240Alberta is, was talking about Alberta independence, but that guy is very close to Trump.
00:19:18.660Why should he not know where Alberta is? Well, that guy's close to Trump. You just said that
00:19:22.800he's some backbench, basically, congressman who nobody really knows. He's not a very
00:19:27.860powerful or popular congressperson. So who cares?
00:19:32.340This is a very different message that the ambassador is now sending. So I'll take the
00:19:36.240ambassador's word, but I'll say certainly I wish they had stayed out of it from the beginning,
00:19:40.240and i certainly hope they continue to stay out of it um one thing i will mention i like how even
00:19:44.720even he had to say that because he knows in a world where he becomes premier it looks really
00:19:49.120bad if he just continues openly accusing the americans of trying to interfere so when pete
00:19:54.000hoekstra says that he kind of has to accept it one because the americans are not up to anything
00:19:58.560and he knows that and also if he ever did become premier it's really bad for alberta u.s relations
00:20:04.720if he had been like accusing them of like of of spreading disinformation and trying to hack the
00:20:12.160election or whatever like he's obviously trying to do here normally when i'm not filling it in
00:20:17.360this job um i'm a correspondent based in the u.s and uh it has come up uh multiple times when i
00:20:23.440am reporting in particularly um republican communities um i'll mention that i'm a canadian
00:20:29.600reporter and um they'll talk about two things one they'll talk about the convoy that happened in
00:20:35.040ottawa epic and number two the protest there number two they will talk about alberta and
00:20:40.260they'll talk about the alberta separatist movement but i will say i believe it's because of coverage
00:20:45.180that does exist in sort of right-wing media circles in the united states um one gentleman
00:20:51.320i interviewed referred to albertans as snow texans dude iconic iconic i like i like that
00:20:58.040I'd be called a Snow Texan. That's funny. I like how it has like that element of like a slur in it. But guess what? That's our word. So we're allowed to use that slur. We're Snow Texans out here.
00:21:10.440And he welcomed any sort of movement toward independence. Now, these are just anecdotal
00:21:15.880instances. That's just one anecdotal instance that I can recall just based on my reporting
00:21:20.200out of the United States. But given that this is getting some attention and that some people within,
00:21:25.400you know, right wing circles, conservative movements in the United States, what do you
00:21:30.140make of that? Do you know why? I'm going to tell you guys the secret of why people cover this in
00:21:34.600the US, even if the independence movement is not going to succeed in the vote. Again, people,
00:21:39.660when i say that will sometimes be like oh why why are you attacking the independence movement i
00:21:43.920really have not made any videos like arguing against independence or anything like that in
00:21:49.060any great way because i don't want when the vote comes down in october for people to say well it
00:21:53.600would have been much higher if you hadn't been attacking it why i just stay out of it mostly
00:21:56.720i don't support it but like my goodness like i need to go back actually and remember what she
00:22:03.640had just said there like but all this is just really frivolous in circles conservative movements
00:22:09.400in the oh yeah so i was going to say like well of course people cover it in the united states
00:22:13.640it's because it's a clicky headline to say oh canadian province may join the united states
00:22:18.660it's not going to happen it only has around 30 support again i'm not trying to naysay the
00:22:23.340independence movement i sidetracked myself when i when i went down the rabbit hole of explaining
00:22:27.500myself there but it's not going to succeed and i'm not naysaying the movement it's just not but
00:22:32.800youtubers like to get clicks on the big theoretical news story that alberta would leave
00:22:39.020canada and join the americans or alberta would be on its own and leave liberal canada that is
00:22:44.700something that is compelling television it's compelling youtube to talk about that even if
00:22:50.220these same people can see the polls and they know the support's not there 30 is nothing to sneeze
00:22:54.460at but that's generally where the support levels are at even rebel news's own poll put it around
00:22:59.42030 again that's elevated from where it used to be but it's still a far cry away from actually
00:23:05.900being able to win a referendum united states um what do you make of that well you know first of
00:23:12.700all i should say katie thank you for your reporting because that's been a lot of what
00:23:16.380we've been going on here but i'm not surprised at all to hear that people who are not affiliated
00:23:21.180with the administration area are nonetheless affiliated with the movement you know the sort
00:23:25.500of far-right extremist movement has become borderless from hungary to the uk to the united
00:23:31.900States to Canada. We've seen that and you've reported on it over the last decade or so. So
00:23:36.340that doesn't actually surprise me. You know, Danielle Smith and her government listened to
00:23:40.980the same podcast that a lot of folks in the U.S. are listening to. Heck, Danielle Smith went down
00:23:45.540to Florida spending taxpayer money to raise money for one of those podcasters, Ben Shapiro.
00:23:50.480Oh, yes. Far right extremist Ben Shapiro.
00:23:53.760I should say she raised money with Ben Shapiro for a right wing organization in the United
00:23:58.300States called PragerU. So it's not surprising to me that this is borderless. And that's fine.
00:24:04.740We've always had borderless conversations. The issue is as long as folks who are not
00:24:10.380able to vote in Alberta, folks who are not part of the Canadian conversation or interfering in
00:24:16.420the election. I'm sorry, is he suggesting that we should just like ban people around the world
00:24:21.920from being able to talk about the referendum in Alberta,
00:24:26.140they're allowed, you know, free speech and all that sort of thing.
00:24:29.200And also, it's just impossible to enforce a policy
00:24:32.420against people talking about the referendum
00:24:36.180You know, that's my primary concern today with CSIS.
00:24:38.960I'm concerned about movement for many other reasons.
00:24:41.420I think it is fundamentally unalbertan and uncanadian,
00:24:44.380a lot of the things that are going on.
00:24:49.280I think premier, which is very, very different
00:24:51.320than the context in quebec for example here we have a premier for whom separatism is not
00:24:56.040notice what he did right there he did some apologetics randomly for quebec separatism
00:25:01.640right in the middle of trying to get them alberta separatism in the context in quebec for example
00:25:07.960to have a premier which is very very different than the context in quebec for example so he's
00:25:13.080saying that it's daniel smith is doing something extremely risky it's putting alberta at risk but
00:25:20.120it's very different from what happened in quebec it's very different from from quebecers having
00:25:25.080their own independence referendum that is totally above board and understandable people in the
00:25:29.640province i live in doing it you you best not even attempt to talk about independence like this is
00:25:36.360just delusional here we have a premier for whom separatism is not any bigger than it's ever been
00:25:42.440if anything it's shrinking it actually is bigger than it used to be like 10 years ago it'd be at
00:25:47.800at like 25% or something like that. It'd be at like 20%. It's at 30% now. It's elevated because
00:25:53.880people are rightfully frustrated at Ottawa. Every premier in Alberta's history has sort of told the
00:26:00.720separatists to go pound sand and run an election on the basis of separatism and have a referendum
00:26:05.380if you want. And every time they do that, they lose terribly. But this is the first premier we've
00:26:10.860ever had who has pandered to them, who has promised them a referendum. She never promised
00:26:15.960them a referendum. She lowered the threshold for getting a question on a referendum ballot
00:26:21.640because the threshold before was insanely high. Even the current threshold is pretty high. 177,000
00:26:28.440signatures is a lot. In fact, Corb Lund's anti-coal in the Rockies campaign couldn't get enough
00:26:34.580signatures, and then all the NDP's allies whined about how they should just let that question on
00:26:39.100the ballot anyways. You guys couldn't even hit the low threshold amount of signatures that you
00:26:43.480needed and now you're complaining uh that like you're complaining that the independence referendum
00:26:48.940was able to get on the ballot oh but they made it so easy by lowering the threshold but also the
00:26:53.220threshold is still too high for the anti-coal people it's such it's just boring to me i need
00:27:00.020to move on from this because while we have talked about nenshi putting out about doing a bunch of
00:27:05.560fear-mongering and spreading disinformation i need to do an update on a story involving
00:27:10.960disinformation from yesterday. You'll remember that I did a video where at the end of it I talked
00:27:18.140about unacceptable fringe also known as Derek Smith talking about how Danielle Smith has ended
00:27:24.560her career by saying that I mean like by basically apparently not speaking up fast enough about the
00:27:32.680about the city of Edmonton having their report hate hotline. She very clearly doesn't support it but
00:27:38.420he put out this video yesterday that i'm sad to report actually has like almost 50 000 views today
00:27:45.860the video at the time only had 4 700 views in the first hour but it's the title was daniel smith
00:27:52.260just ended her career and i played a clip from it and basically he was accusing her of somehow
00:27:57.940being involved in like the security state and not saying anything about the edmonton police and
00:28:04.580mayor andrew knack uh putting out this insane uh report hate campaign where they wanted you to
00:28:10.660report things like you know someone should be deported or sent back or whatever it was just
00:28:16.500completely out of context comments that don't actually sound hateful at all and by the way
00:28:21.860i think you're allowed to be hateful and it's not a crime it's ridiculous that being hateful
00:28:26.020is a crime the only thing that should be considered a crime that involves hatred
00:28:30.180is open incitement of criminal activity or violence you're saying you know those people
00:28:35.460are dirty nasty terrible human like subhumans go kill them yes that person should be charged
00:28:41.220because they are inciting violence that is what hate is an actual crime but derek smith implied
00:28:46.500that danielle smith was okay with this because she didn't say anything about it and it had been
00:28:50.900a couple of days yes it was a long weekend this story broke i believe either thursday night or
00:28:58.340friday night and then we are in a long weekend and you could say well they should still say
00:29:02.260something about it anyways i agree but sometimes your staff are off on a long weekend and you'd
00:29:07.460rather come back together and craft a proper response that hits the right notes while not
00:29:12.260completely alienating the city government in edmonton because although they messed up and
00:29:17.140daniel smith has now very pointedly pushed back on them they have also still said it lightly enough
00:29:23.700i think still work with andrew knack in the future while telling him to scrap this garbage
00:29:28.260Here is what Mike Ellis, the public safety minister and deputy premier said in regards to the Edmonton situation.
00:29:37.240He says, we are committed to supporting and respecting everyone's right to free speech.
00:29:41.520We have a duty to uphold these rights and freedoms regardless of an individual's religious or political beliefs.
00:29:47.320Alberta government does not condone hate speech or violence, but we believe law enforcement should be focused on stopping violent crime, not policing opinions or hurt feelings.
00:29:55.340Our government will be in contact with our provincial and municipal policing agencies to ensure Alberta's policing priorities continue to be cracking down on violent crime, theft, illegal drugs, and vandalism.
00:30:06.980And Danielle Smith also posted a clip from herself on a podcast in the past saying that we're not going to spend any police resources enforcing federal government priorities that have nothing to do with actual public safety.
00:30:19.540basically saying that we're not going to support you know we're not going to enforce the law on
00:30:24.380hate speech laws in alberta with any of our police resources and they are sticking to that it turns
00:30:30.500out if derrick smith unacceptable fringe just waited for the long weekend to be over he would
00:30:35.680have found out that he was wrong and in just a second here i'm going to get to his weird non-apology
00:30:40.820excuse making video that he ended up actually deleting trying to justify why he constantly
00:30:46.720lies to his audience about stuff going on. Nahid Nenshi and Derek Smith are effectively two sides
00:30:52.680of the same coin. Derek Smith is lying about Daniel Smith from the independence perspective,
00:30:59.080and I don't think he actually represents the independence people. There are so many
00:31:02.660very credible independence people. I don't even agree with all their arguments as someone who's
00:31:07.040not pro-independence. Even if I disagree with certain tactics they use or certain things they
00:31:27.880Derek Smith is just spreading disinformation, like Nahid Nenshi and the NDP,
00:31:32.700to try and take a pound of flesh out of Alberta Premier Daniel Smith without checking his facts.
00:31:39.420After Mike Ellis posted this, Daniel Smith then also followed it up saying,
00:31:44.760Free speech is a foundational Alberta value.
00:31:47.420We don't believe in policing unpopular or religious-based statements, even if they are controversial.
00:31:52.740That's a slippery slope other countries have fallen into, and we can't go down that road.
00:31:56.420Our Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services, Mike Ellis, will be writing to our provincial and municipal police providers
00:32:02.660to ensure they understand Alberta's policing priorities and should focus on violent crime,
00:32:07.180illegal drugs, theft, vandalism, not people's free speech. So have we had an apology from Derek
00:32:14.740Smith for lying about this? Well, no. In fact, he put out a video, like I said, he then later
00:32:21.460deleted, where he tried to justify his practices on the channel. And I'm saying this because it
00:32:27.140matters there is a chance that the alberta ucp could lose the next provincial election even with
00:32:34.240the referendum out of the way and the nvp not able to run on anything if we have people attacking
00:32:39.400the ucp government based on things that are not happening i would say be critical of of them over
00:32:46.660things that happened if you didn't like the hundred dollar gas rebate criticize it do that
00:32:53.000I honestly I think it's fine technically like gas prices were super high because of elevated prices
00:32:59.380the government put out some checks whatever you can like that you can dislike that I think it's
00:33:03.660fine I'm not the biggest fan I'm not of someone who's actually an opponent of it whatever but he
00:33:08.660then put out this video that said in the thumbnail sorry not sorry and the title says I owe everyone
00:33:14.820an apology what did he actually say in this video well he justified his clickbait titles which aren't
00:33:21.920even clickbait half the time it's just outright a lie it is the reverse of what the truth is saying
00:33:27.520every youtuber does this this is just the youtuber game you have to just make up stuff like danielle
00:33:33.280smith's career is over because of some some dumb assumption you made over something that did not
00:33:39.040happen danielle smith does not support what the edmonton police did but he somehow turned an
00:33:45.760interview of her saying that she doesn't want to police federal uh priorities and saying because
00:33:50.960she had not spoken up about this over the long weekend that she is being a hypocrite and this
00:33:56.160demonstrates that you cannot trust her it's like oh my goodness he also lied pretending that danielle
00:34:01.520smith is trying to go for conservative party leader pure poly of his job and i can show you
00:34:06.880this video is now deleted i can show you on his youtube channel because i was watching it in the
00:34:12.160middle i was watching the video and it got deleted you can see here he's like talking about what's
00:34:18.960going on in his thumbnails and whatnot he then he like it's hard to for me to like put this out
00:34:26.240he then said he didn't want to mention me because he didn't want to get into a feud or whatever
00:34:31.600i'm not doing this as artificial drama like he said he refused to mention who i was or link the
00:34:37.220video that i had mentioned not that he has to i don't care i'm not doing this for artificial drama
00:34:41.780i'm doing this because i call out the legacy media for lying i call out naheed nenshi for lying
00:34:48.600I will call out Derek Smith for lying and he is a liar. He at one point lied that Clyde do something, stole some microphones from him, took some microphones without paying for them. When in fact he gifted those microphones to Clyde because Clyde at the time was probably the biggest conservative YouTuber in Canada and helped Derek sell a bunch of his parody Dr. Seuss books, probably helped him sell thousands of books. And as a thank you, Derek then sent him some microphones.
00:35:14.300But then when he got into a small tiff with Clyde, he then rewrote the narrative and said that Clyde actually took microphones from him and didn't pay for them.
00:35:21.500And then Derek had to delete that post because it was a lie.
