00:00:24.400 The police would love to do something, but they have the federal government and provincial

00:00:28.800 government tying one hand behind their backs and saying that you can't even lock up criminals.

00:00:34.260 And the story today is that an 82-year-old veteran who is the branch president for the Legion in his

00:00:41.740 area of Penticton was attacked by a homeless gang and the people that basically did it got away with

00:00:49.240 it. Nothing's happened, even though this man lives right by the police station. This didn't happen by

00:00:54.160 the police station, but they were pretty close. And this is just becoming a daily occurrence.

00:00:59.880 So this man, Jim DeMars, 82, I'll just read a little bit of this article from Kelowna now. I'm

00:01:05.880 going to link it in the description below. And it says, Jim DeMars, 82, was driving a scooter home

00:01:10.940 from the library late Friday. This is the Penticton Public Library. Afternoon when four strange men

00:01:16.760 approached him, and this is quoting him, they weren't kids. I would say all four of them were in their

00:01:21.980 40s, and they were all obviously street people, he said. I asked to get by them, and they said they

00:01:27.220 would move their carts so I can get by if I gave them all my money and my cigarettes. I said, no,

00:01:32.480 no, that ain't happening. Then they knocked me off my scooter and the gang tackled me. And he goes on

00:01:39.480 to talk about the attack on him and how nothing was done to these guys. What I found most interesting

00:01:46.640 is John DeMars, who is absolutely a hero in Canada, a man who is a veteran who, after having

00:01:53.400 served in our military, has continued being a Legion president, is involved in his community,

00:01:58.920 and frankly, he is also very brave for standing up to these scumbags on the street who attacked

00:02:04.880 him for the mere act of trying to get down the sidewalk in his own town. Here's him after the

00:02:11.320 attack right here, still looking very active and serving his community. Great man. But the

00:02:17.720 interesting comments he made was how it's not just about how I don't want this to happen to other

00:02:22.580 people, and this is tragic, blah, blah, blah. I never thought this would happen in my city.

00:02:54.900 get fingerprinted. They get mug shots. They end up in the courtroom, and the judge gives them a slap

00:03:05.040 Penticton, but all across Canada sucks, and he is absolutely right. The thing is that in Canada,

00:03:15.580 because of our weak bail laws, we effectively have same-day automatic bail that no matter what

00:03:22.520 you're arrested for, even if you are a serial violent offender like we saw earlier, actually last

00:03:28.780 month with whatever that guy was, you know, scumbag murderer man who killed a, I think Terry Dunn

00:03:38.220 in Surrey, that he was a repeat violent offender and was just released from prison, was just released

00:03:45.260 after being arrested for aggravated assault and having a long history of multiple repeat offenses

00:03:51.080 for theft. I believe drug dealing, a lot of other sorts of things involved in violent crime and

00:03:56.960 other illegal activity, and he was released. And same thing with these guys who attacked

00:04:01.580 John DeMars. Even if they were caught, they'd be out same day. They were literally not punished.

00:04:06.920 They know that they can make an entire lifestyle out of being on the streets. And a lot of these

00:04:12.060 people are addicts. They do need help themselves, but it doesn't help them to keep letting them back

00:04:16.860 on the street. But we have this left-wing mentality in Canada, and especially BC, that if you're on the

00:04:23.520 street, that if you're a criminal, that you yourself are a victim of the system, that you just haven't

00:04:29.620 been given your 30-second chance. And if we give that to you, and we give you a pamphlet saying that

00:04:35.340 maybe you should stop using meth, that eventually you'll figure it out and get clean. That's not how

00:04:40.560 this works. And you're causing more people to be victimized over time. And so if we can use a story

00:04:47.180 like this of John DeMars being attacked by these four, like, basically street gang members,

00:04:53.280 I think that we need a change in government in this country. Yes, that is what you expect me to say,

00:04:59.240 but it is a very, you know, it needs to have a fine point put on it. David Eby, even though most of our

00:05:04.860 criminal laws come from the federal level, has not properly funded the police in BC. There is not

00:05:11.000 enough police officers in these cities with high crime to be able to intervene in these scenarios,

00:05:16.020 be able to keep these people away from public buildings, you know, like, check people on the

00:05:22.580 streets, see what they're up to, remove weapons from them. That's something he could be doing,

00:05:27.360 but he hasn't. We even, in fact, have an anti-profiling law in British Columbia that makes

00:05:32.880 it so that if you want to arrest somebody or you want to stop and search somebody because they're up

00:05:38.220 to no good, if you do that to too many people of certain demographics, then you might be investigated

00:05:42.800 as a police officer or a police branch might be investigated because we care more about social

00:05:47.640 justice than actual justice. And on the federal level, we not only have same-day automatic bail,

00:05:53.160 we have things like Bill C-5, which make it so that if you're a gang member who is caught carrying an

00:05:59.180 illegal handgun, that's no longer considered that bad of an offense. You might go to prison for a couple

00:06:04.400 months or so, and that's it if you get put in prison at all. At the same time, you have Justin Trudeau

00:06:11.020 and the liberals going after law-abiding gun owners, freezing handgun sales, and outright

00:06:16.160 banning the ability to buy a handgun even if you have an RPAL and you go through all the hoops

00:06:20.960 that you need to to purchase one. You still can't have one, but a gang member can smuggle his heap

00:06:25.820 up across the border. These people are not buying handguns at Brett Bass Pro Shop just to let Justin

00:06:31.820 Trudeau know. These people are smuggling guns up over the southern border with the U.S., and even if they

00:06:38.480 get caught, even if they have obviously committed several crimes in both carrying the gun and

00:06:43.840 acquiring it, they aren't charged at all. And again, violent offenders on the streets, we view them

00:06:50.520 within their socioeconomic situations, and that's how judges decide whether or not to hold people.

00:06:56.280 We have a serious problem on the federal level of needing to appoint better judges, provincially and

00:07:01.160 federally. We need a better funded judicial system. In B.C., there was literally a child

00:07:08.300 molester, frankly, who was let off because in 18 months they couldn't get him a trial because the

00:07:14.500 system is so severely underfunded. But in B.C., we still fund safe supply. We still give people

00:07:19.660 free, like a hydromorphone, free meth, free heroin. But we can't properly get in. We can't get enough

00:07:26.760 judges. We can't get enough sheriffs to actually make sure we process and prosecute these people. 0.52

00:08:37.560 believe Stephen Harper, when he left office in 2015, there was tons of vacancies on the Senate. There

00:08:42.680 was tons of vacancies or different courts that could have had vacancies filled. And Stephen Harper

00:08:49.240 just didn't do it. And then Justin Trudeau appointed all these soft on crime liberal judges.

00:10:25.480 a game. You get arrested after stealing several thousand dollars of stuff. You're let out of prison

00:10:29.880 in two days. Who cares? If anything, it's a great way of getting a shower between going on another crime
