Wyatt Claypool breaks down the financials behind the scenes of why Doug Ford and the Ontario PCs are supporting the Liberal Party of Canada in the upcoming federal election, and why it makes sense that they would align themselves so closely with Kathleen Wynne and the Liberals.

00:00:00.000
and Jamil Giovanni winning again tonight. Congratulations. Thank you very much. Doug Ford
00:00:03.920
just went through an election. I have differences of opinion with him. I don't like how he's managed
00:00:08.340
health care or education. But out of respect, we didn't say anything. Federal party, we didn't get
00:00:13.080
in his way. When it was our turn to run an election, he couldn't stay out of our business.
00:00:16.820
Hey guys, Wyatt Claypool here. If the federal election had one very good outcome, it's that
00:00:23.640
Doug Ford and the Ontario PC Parties HQ have finally exposed themselves as effectively being
00:00:30.880
liberals. I am very happy to see Conservative Party MP Jamil Giovanni just calling them out directly
00:00:38.260
and also mocking them for thinking they're political geniuses, despite the fact that Doug Ford and the
00:00:44.440
PCs have really benefited greatly from having some of the worst opponents in Ontario provincial
00:00:50.500
history. Today in this video, I want to break down some of the stuff that Doug Ford and the Ontario
00:00:57.760
PCs have done in order to undermine the federal Conservatives in the 2025 federal election, as
00:01:04.720
well as some of the motivations that may be behind why Doug Ford has chosen to align himself so closely
00:01:11.420
with Mark Carney and the Liberal Party. The truth is he's been aligned with the Liberals for a very long
00:01:17.280
time, probably since he came in around 2018, and I'm going to show you some of the financials behind
00:01:23.860
the scenes that make Doug Ford want the Liberals to win. But first, let's get back to this interview
00:01:29.940
with Jamil Giovanni, where he says some of the things I would love to say on national television
00:01:35.660
about the Doug Ford PC Party in Ontario. They're just awful. They've basically just been a continuation
00:01:42.400
of Kathleen Wynne, and they think they're so good at politics, even though they're basically running
00:01:48.400
against half-baked potatoes as leaders of the Liberals and the NDP. Doug Ford just went through
00:01:54.220
an election. I have differences of opinion with him. I don't like how he's managed healthcare or
00:01:58.720
education. But out of respect, we didn't say anything. Federal party, we didn't get in his way.
00:02:03.660
When it was our turn to run an election, he couldn't stay out of our business, always getting his
00:02:07.780
criticisms and all his opinions out, distracting our campaign, trying to make it about him, trying
00:02:13.060
to position himself as some kind of political genius that we needed to be taking cues from.
00:02:17.360
Was it him specifically? Was it his campaign manager, Corey, tonight? Do you see Doug Ford as a problem
00:02:22.540
for the federal party in the outcome of this race? I see Doug Ford as a problem for Ontario and for
00:02:28.540
Canada. I think he's not doing a great job in running this province, and now he's trying to exercise
00:02:33.280
his influence over other levels of government. And it's not like this guy is doing anything
00:02:37.540
particularly well. You did used to work for him. I did. I'm speaking from experience.
00:02:42.400
And Jamil Giovanni is absolutely right. Doug Ford and his PC government have done very little
00:02:48.960
conservative since they got in back in 2018. Taxes are still extremely high. In fact, Doug Ford now has
00:02:56.720
to go around pretending that he's achieved his goal of not raising taxes when they are pretty much at
00:03:02.200
their maximum level possible right now. And he had previously promised to actually lower them.
00:03:07.440
And he's actually brought in an industrial carbon tax of his own on the provincial level. So his
00:03:12.620
claims that he hasn't raised taxes aren't even true. I guess he hasn't raised them on income. But
00:03:18.360
still, all taxes going up raises everyone's tax burden, whether it's on the products they're buying or
00:03:24.120
the actual direct taxes that they're paying. Doug Ford on many other fronts has just been bad.
00:03:29.580
On school curriculum, he hasn't made any reforms. On other issues around spending, he hasn't made any
00:03:35.780
reforms. He's just kind of a retail politician and not much more. So when he then tries to poke his
00:03:42.440
fingers around the conservative campaign and his campaign director, Corey Tanike, is going around
00:03:48.320
criticizing everything the conservatives do, it's just deeply hypocritical. Because while Doug Ford wins,
00:03:54.580
he doesn't win for the right reasons. And I was happy that at least the federal conservatives,
00:03:58.700
while not winning, were trying to actually win for the right reasons. And I just want to let you know
00:04:04.500
in the description of this video below, as well as pinned at the top of the comments, I've included
00:04:09.520
an article from the Fraser Institute, a fiscally conservative organization, who goes through the
00:04:15.280
record of Doug Ford and shows that he's really not that much different from the Kathleen Wynne liberals
00:04:20.600
or Dalton McGinty liberals. He's still a high spender, and he gets re-elected by throwing around
00:04:25.680
subsidies towards targeted areas where he thinks he can win votes. It's really gross,
00:04:30.900
and it's not conservative. You did used to work for him. I did. I'm speaking from experience.
00:04:36.200
I tried to fix problems in this province, and he kept getting in his way and all his goons around
00:04:40.480
him all the time. They wouldn't make anything better. And now we're seeing him because he,
00:04:44.780
you know, this guy's a political genius because he beat Bonnie Crombie and Stephen Del Duca.
00:04:48.600
And now we got to sit around and get advice from him? No, no. I think Jamil Giovanni's even overselling
00:04:54.800
Doug Ford's liberal opponents a bit because in 2018, 2022, and 2025, his real main opponent in terms
00:05:03.520
of the party who won the second most seats was the NDP. And in 2018 and 22, it was led by Andrea Horvath,
00:05:11.600
who had been failing to win elections as the NDP leader in Ontario since 2011. She lost in 2011,
00:05:20.320
2014, 2018, and 2022. And then you have Del Duca and Crombie and Kathleen Wynne, who are all dud,
00:05:29.880
uncharismatic, unorganized liberal leaders. He has taken the provincial conservative party and turned it
00:05:36.540
into something hollow, unprincipled, something that doesn't solve problems. He's glad-handing with
00:05:41.480
Christia Freeland having coffees and lattes with Mark Carney. And I'm sitting here saying we need
00:05:46.720
to be fighting for change and something new and something different, not being a hype man to the
00:05:50.860
liberal party. And here again, Jamil Giovanni is absolutely correct. Doug Ford gave his brand to
00:05:58.620
Mark Carney. He lent himself to their credibility, constantly praising minor little things that Mark
00:06:06.460
Carney was doing or just saying, and giving permission for a lot of PC Ontario voters to go
00:06:12.120
vote Mark Carney to stop Donald Trump by constantly hyping up that element of Mark Carney's agenda.
00:06:18.740
Here is Doug Ford congratulating Mark Carney on becoming the new federal liberal party leader,
00:06:24.820
a very unnecessary gesture that positively highlights Mark Carney as someone who'd probably
00:06:31.220
make a good prime minister. This is an actual line from that statement, again, put out on the Ontario
00:06:40.460
I want to extend my congratulations to Mark Carney on being elected as leader of the liberal party of
00:06:46.780
Canada and our next prime minister. Your election comes at a critical time as our country continues to
00:06:53.240
stare down the ongoing threat of President Trump's tariffs. Now more than ever, Canada needs strong
00:06:59.020
leadership and cooperation across all levels of government to protect our country. That is an
00:07:05.440
obvious implicit endorsement of Mark Carney and the liberal government. He is highlighting that it's
00:07:12.640
a critical time right now and we need to work together and I just congratulated you on becoming
00:07:17.400
the new liberal party leader. Could this man be the person I think is the strong leadership we need
00:07:22.800
right now? It's obviously what he's attempting to do. He then later had coffee with Mark
00:07:29.000
Carney and then also attended a premier's meeting in which he gushed about how Mark Carney has such
00:07:35.340
great ideas for protecting Canada. Oh, this is fantastic. We're all cooperating and signing
00:07:40.220
agreements. It's so far just words on paper even today. But Doug Ford went out of his way to praise
00:07:47.420
empty words of Mark Carney because he wanted PC Ontario voters to go and vote liberal. He was giving a
00:07:55.180
permission structure for PC voters to vote federal liberal. And make no mistake, Doug Ford has been
00:08:02.440
doing stuff like this since well before 2025. There is a now infamous article in the Toronto Star
00:08:09.920
where Chrystia Freeland refers to Doug Ford as her therapist and they go over the unlikely friendship
00:08:16.740
between Doug Ford and Chrystia Freeland as well as Ford and the Trudeau government in general.
00:08:22.520
And why is Doug Ford so friendly with the liberal government? Well, I think they are of like minds
00:08:29.020
on many issues, including spending, including subsidizing Ontario industries. There is absolutely
00:08:37.420
no coincidence in my mind that Doug Ford has been so friendly to the liberal government as the liberal
00:08:43.300
government has been increasing transfer payments to Ontario despite the fact that Ontario should be
00:08:50.420
actually increasing in its economic health and deserving of fewer transfers. Just look at the
00:08:56.740
difference between the 2016 and 2017 fiscal years transfer to Ontario and then the 2025-2026 year transfer
00:09:07.220
that shows that the Ontario government is now getting more than $8 billion extra in federal transfers
00:09:14.860
from the liberal government. Early on in Doug Ford's premiership, he tried to make himself an opponent
00:09:22.540
of the liberal government, but you can pinpoint the exact year he started being very friendly to them
00:09:28.700
back in 2020 and 2021 when fiscal transfers started to greatly increase per capita. And now today,
00:09:37.260
Doug Ford has tried to respond to critics like Jamil Javani and other federal conservatives and I'll let
00:09:43.740
you be the judge as to whether you think this is a good excuse or not.
00:09:48.220
Here in the federal election, last time I checked, Pierre Polyev never came out in our election. Matter
00:09:54.780
of fact, him or one of his lieutenants told every one of his members, don't you dare go out and help
00:10:01.820
the PCs. Isn't that ironic? But anyways, I'm not going to dig deep into this. The people spoke and I have no
00:10:10.620
say in who people vote for, but I'll tell you one thing. We have a government, democratically elected,
00:10:18.140
I will hold them accountable. I'll hold them accountable like I would no matter if it's a
00:10:22.300
conservative government or a liberal government. I just wanted to include that last little bit
00:10:27.340
there because I find it so absurd that Doug Ford thinks he's going to hold the liberal government to
00:10:32.140
account. I guess he means hold them to account in the sense that he's going to account for how much
00:10:37.420
money the federal government transfers to his Ontario government. But I digress. Doug Ford's
00:10:43.660
complaint against the federal party doesn't make any sense. So he's justifying him and his campaign
00:10:50.140
manager, Corey Tanaiki, going and knifing the federal conservatives because they didn't help him in his
00:10:56.060
provincial re-election. A re-election that he didn't need to call in February. It was an unnecessary snap
00:11:02.700
election. And not only have people like former PC MPP Goldie Gomery pointed out it's nonsense that the
00:11:10.060
Ford PCs were not getting help by federal conservative volunteers, but even if they weren't sending any
00:11:16.060
volunteers or they weren't even letting them volunteer, who cares? It was Doug Ford's choice to call
00:11:22.380
an early provincial election, a year and a half early provincial election, when a federal election was
00:11:28.300
imminent. And the federal conservatives were obviously not going to be able to spare a bunch
00:11:33.020
of volunteers to an election where Doug Ford was slated to easily win. And I'm happy to see that Jamil
00:11:40.380
Giovanni has kept up the barrage since that news interview, not letting Doug Ford off the hook and
00:11:46.780
not listening to other people saying that we all need to unify right now and learn to get along. The
00:11:52.220
problem is the Ford PCs don't want to get along. They want their subsidies. They want their transfer
00:11:58.140
payments. And there is one more man I need to talk about in this video for it to be truly complete.
00:12:04.780
And that is Doug Ford's campaign director, Corey Tanike, who was the main wedge against the federal
00:12:11.340
conservatives in the 2025 election. No matter what the conservatives were doing, he was going to appear
00:12:17.900
all over the media on the CBC, on podcasts, in the papers, criticizing them and saying that they were
00:12:24.380
making tactical errors. And this is all election malpractice. And they need to talk about Donald
00:12:29.500
Trump more. I'll play a clip right here of this going on. When you're running around in hoodies
00:12:36.380
saying, don't believe the polling, like, like you were like the flat earth society campaign. Like
00:12:42.060
that's what you've actually reduced yourself to. But we don't know that that's the view of the
00:12:45.980
corporate campaign. Nobody runs into that, you know, in a conservative party rally with like some
00:12:52.700
unsanctioned, you know, sweater. I know I've got a bad name with some people in the conservative party
00:12:59.660
for pointing out at the beginning of the campaign that, you know, the election has pivoted towards
00:13:05.260
Trump. That was true in December. It was true in December. And I know because, you know, I was
00:13:12.700
running a campaign for Doug Ford in which we were doing polling and we're listening to that polling.
00:13:17.420
And that was true in December. And it was true in January and February and March, right? Like,
00:13:23.740
but like, I see no evidence that they have actually pulled and that they were actually like following
00:13:29.260
polling and research and anything that is even remotely conventional in how you manage a campaign.
00:13:35.660
What a swell guy that Cory to Nike is. And he's entirely wrong. Not only because I don't think
00:13:42.220
the conservatives would have done better if they constantly talked about Donald Trump. I think they
00:13:46.620
should have been campaigning harder against Mark Carney well before he was even made the liberal leader.
00:13:52.060
But talking about Trump as the conservative party is just trying to do the same thing the liberals and
00:13:57.500
the NDP are doing. And it's not focusing people on the need for change. Doug Ford can get away with
00:14:03.500
winning reelection as a conservative constantly just talking about Trump because he had no competition.
00:14:09.260
And the PCs think they're geniuses again, like Jamil Giovanni said, because they beat Del Duca and
00:14:14.620
Crombie. Those were easy victories in which Doug Ford could have basically not worn pants the entire
00:14:21.100
election and he still would have won. And it's convenient that Cory to Nike can now say,
00:14:26.220
well, they lost because they didn't do what I told them to do, even though I was just jabbing them the
00:14:32.620
entire election, basically trying as hard as possible to make sure that PC Ontario voters don't
00:14:38.700
vote for the federal conservatives. And see, I was right. After sabotaging them, saying that they should
00:14:44.300
be doing something, they didn't win. No, it was mostly sabotage had very little to do with the message
00:14:51.900
that the conservatives were running on. The pollsters like Abacus Data will show you that the conservatives
00:14:57.500
were doing really well on the change message. But on the Trump message, the liberals naturally were doing
00:15:02.940
better than the conservatives because the media and the liberal party had already been falsely labeling
00:15:08.540
Polyev as the Trump guy for more than a year. And really that only started working because Justin
00:15:14.060
Trudeau got out of the way. And then the main issue could become Trump instead of Justin Trudeau's
00:15:19.420
failures, even as the vast, vast majority of people associated with the liberal government right now
00:15:25.580
are the same people that were advising Justin Trudeau or were in his cabinet, including Mark Carney
00:15:31.900
himself. So Cory to Nike, in my opinion, is just flatly wrong. And again, he made himself
00:15:38.300
right by helping to sabotage the conservatives. The conservatives were just a hundred or so votes
00:15:45.580
away from winning many of these ridings in Brampton. They were not that far away from winning a lot of
00:15:51.260
ridings in British Columbia, winning ridings in Atlantic Canada. And it would have helped to not
00:15:56.780
have had the PC party and people like Cory to Nike generating tons and tons of bad headlines to
00:16:03.980
demotivate conservatives. And with that being said, that should be it for this video today, guys.
