Summary

Chrystia Freeland is running for the Liberal Party Leadership, and I'm here to talk about it. I also talk about why I don't think it's a good idea for her to run, and why we should be proud of her.

00:00:00.000 Hey guys, Wyatt Claypool here. I'll tell you, this liberal leadership race is very emotionally
00:00:06.920 confusing for me because I want to see Freeland and I want to see Carney lose. And every time
00:00:13.860 one of them does something right, I kind of have to give them props and I kind of like it because
00:00:19.520 it hurts the other person, but it means that person is moving closer to the liberal party
00:00:25.460 leadership and the prime ministership. So I don't know what sort of stance to take on this
00:00:30.940 other than I am letting it happen. So Chrystia Freeland just today released a video that's
00:00:37.500 obviously setting up her announcement tomorrow that she's running for the liberal party leadership.
00:00:42.740 And like I've been predicting, she is running in the not Trudeau lane. Carney, oddly enough,
00:00:49.440 even though he was not an actual minister or ever been an MP, he is in the Trudeau lane and both of
00:00:57.460 them are complete hypocrites because they are obviously both Trudeau-like candidates. But for
00:01:02.840 arbitrary, stupid political reasons, one of them is the not Trudeau option and one of them is the
00:01:07.940 Trudeau option, but they are both the most beige candidates I've ever seen in my life. Not anything
00:01:14.640 interesting going on with them other than sometimes they do some politically intelligent
00:01:19.740 things to harm the other or try and boost themselves up. Again, this is very difficult
00:01:25.380 to watch as a conservative and have to sometimes say that, yes, that's a very intelligent move.
00:01:30.380 Like yesterday, or I think it was technically two days ago, Chrystia Freeland did something smart.
00:01:37.020 It's the weirdest thing ever, but Mark Carney announces he's running at Edmonton. It was not a
00:01:42.240 great announcement. It was kind of low energy. And on the same day, Chrystia Freeland changes her
00:01:47.120 X profile picture. This is going to make sense in a second on why these two things matter.
00:01:52.760 She changes to this like cherry red filter. It was her normal profile picture, but with like a really
00:01:59.360 heavy cherry red filter, it looked stupid. As I noted on X, she looked like Vigo from Ghostbusters 2.
00:02:06.920 But guess what? It made me and it made other people, including liberals, talk about it when
00:02:13.460 Mark Carney wanted them to be talking about him. So points to Chrystia Freeland. She has since changed
00:02:20.940 it to a different photo of herself. And we're about to get into the video. But first, a reminder,
00:02:26.400 guys, if you like this channel, I guarantee you over half of you are not yet subscribers. So make sure
00:02:32.740 to like this video, subscribe, leave a comment on whether or not you think it's going to be Freeland,
00:02:38.640 it's going to be Carney, or maybe it's going to be Gould. I don't know. Now I'm forgetting her name.
00:02:45.060 She's so forgettable. We will be going over her announcement video as well today. But without further
00:02:52.020 ado, here is Chrystia Freeland's video. I accidentally closed that tab, actually. This is Chrystia Freeland's
00:02:58.680 video. And for some reason, it has this big wall of text saying, this moment matters on it. Very
00:03:04.820 all like lefty stuff. Let me bring this back up on screen. I am a mess, everyone.
00:03:14.140 So here's her video that starts with the text, this moment matters, because I guess this moment
00:03:19.360 matters for some reason.
00:03:20.320 I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Donald Trump doesn't like me very much.
00:03:24.880 Canada. We don't like their representative very much.
00:03:28.540 Like how he didn't even name her because he probably doesn't care. Wasn't she crying during
00:03:32.500 the negotiations because of just how stressful and frankly bad of a job she did?
00:03:36.820 Tough negotiator. During the first Trump administration, I fought hard to protect Canadian
00:03:41.920 jobs, the Canadian economy, and our way of life. And we won. I left...
00:03:47.320 What metric did we win? Yes, I forgot that Canada actually rose above the American economy.
00:03:56.320 We're actually doing so well right now, even though... I'm not even kidding. Per-capital
00:04:01.400 incomes fell 3% since 2023, since the start of 2023. But no, we won that negotiation.
00:04:07.540 Trudeau's cabinet, because I know what we need to do to win that fight again.
00:04:12.420 See, this is a very key part. This is where she is trying to market herself
00:04:15.560 as the anti-Trudeau, the not-Trudeau candidate. She says this, and then the rest of the video is
00:04:21.520 basically how we need to be different than we have been.
00:04:23.740 Notice how, again, she's already mentioned that
00:04:29.700 we need to do to win that fight again. Donald Trump and his billionaire buddies think they can push us around.
00:04:35.660 Trump thinks we're for sale. If he can take what isn't his, we're not gonna let him.
00:04:41.620 We're a proud country. The true north, strong and free. A country of smart, caring, and hard...
00:04:50.580 Notice how, again, she's already mentioned that she left Trudeau's cabinet because she knows the path Canada needs to be on.
00:04:57.740 So, basically saying Trudeau was the wrong path, in which...
00:05:02.100 Okay, Lee, you gotta tell us, when was the moment that Trudeau became bad?
00:05:07.340 People can't keep doing this saying,
00:05:09.220 Ah, thank you, Trudeau. Thank you for your stalwart leadership, but we need somebody else.
00:05:13.620 Why do we need somebody else? Because apparently, up until last week, he was fine.
00:05:18.120 He was fantastic. He was doing great.
00:05:19.780 But she's doing this where I had to split myself from Trudeau to put Canada on the right path.
00:05:26.000 Shows a picture of Chrétien. You will not see a photo of Trudeau in this video
00:05:29.420 because she, again, is marketing herself as the not-Trudeau candidate.
00:05:33.560 Working people. A country that gets big things done.
00:05:37.720 A country worth fighting for.
00:05:40.620 But Pierre Pogliac, he'll bow down to Trump and sell us out.
00:05:46.160 Based on what?
00:05:47.140 Like, legit, based on what?
00:05:49.640 Based on what is he going to sell us out?
00:05:52.360 Because he's conservative?
00:05:54.500 Because he has not sideswiped Trump for no reason?
00:05:59.800 This moment matters.
00:06:03.520 For all of us.
00:06:05.660 I'm running to be leader of the Liberal Party and our next Prime Minister.
00:06:10.440 I'm in this to fight for you.
00:06:12.840 To fight for Canadians.
00:06:15.520 To fight for Canada.
00:06:17.480 Join me.
00:06:18.840 Join the fight.
00:06:19.560 This is somehow a better video.
00:06:24.060 This is not a good video.
00:06:25.260 Let me say this.
00:06:26.200 This is not a good video, but it is somehow better than anything Mark Carney's done so far,
00:06:30.860 which is not saying something good about Freeland.
00:06:33.180 It is just saying something bad about Carney.
00:06:36.100 This video is still vapid.
00:06:38.200 It doesn't say anything.
00:06:39.260 It doesn't say, what did we do wrong and I am the candidate who is decisively going to take us in the other direction?
00:06:44.140 It doesn't say any of that.
00:06:45.260 It is that I left Trudeau's cabinet implying he's bad because I am the non-Trudeau candidate and we need to do something new, but not what Polyev's doing, which I will not actually make a coherent criticism of.
00:06:57.220 I am just going to say he is with Trump and his billionaire buddies.
00:07:01.240 If anything, she sounds a lot like Jagmeet Singh here.
00:07:03.980 And again, she needs to say what was wrong with Trudeau or she is a complete hypocrite.
00:07:09.100 But Carney as well, literally all the candidates.
00:07:12.320 And now we are going to get up to the other candidate to drop a video today.
00:07:15.680 I have heard she is on Team Carney secretly in the background, which would make sense why she dropped a video today.
00:07:21.680 But Karina Gould is in the race and so far she has the least bad logo.
00:07:26.680 Just a maple leaf with some letters in it, you know, the Karina Gould initials.
00:07:32.420 It's not saying much again because it's mostly that Carney messed up with his logo twice now.
00:07:37.020 Both logos he's released are ugly and were copyright violating on another business that they basically just copied.
00:07:44.160 But here is Karina Gould announcing her leadership race entry.
00:07:49.080 Why is she in this race?
00:07:50.360 I don't know.
00:07:51.320 She is going to get absolutely clobbered by Emily Brown, the conservative nominee in Burlington.
00:07:56.180 But I guess she wants one last hurrah.
00:07:58.800 There's a lot going on right now.
00:08:01.220 I understand these past years haven't just been hard.
00:08:04.300 They've been exhausting.
00:08:05.240 The economy...
00:08:07.240 Why?
00:08:09.900 Why?
00:08:12.060 One more time.
00:08:15.060 Why?
00:08:15.700 Why have they been hard?
00:08:17.060 You've been part of the government that has been in power for nine years.
00:08:19.520 So why has it been hard?
00:08:20.440 You have to name it.
00:08:21.280 The economy...
00:08:21.800 Oh, so she doesn't tell us why it's been hard.
00:08:25.580 The economy, climate change, and what's going on south of the border leave all of us feeling nervous about the future.
00:08:32.460 Okay, so she's not going to say why it's been tough and exhausting.
00:08:36.520 She's just saying that now there's this other stuff.
00:08:38.700 You know all those problems?
00:08:39.760 It's been tough and hard and whatnot.
00:08:42.000 Adjectives.
00:08:42.460 It's been very negative adjectives.
00:08:43.880 But be distracted by climate change, stuff south of the border that technically doesn't concern us, and then, like, the economy.
00:08:52.740 Vaguely, the economy is something.
00:08:54.740 We're not going to say if it's bad.
00:08:56.500 We're just going to say the economy is the economy.
00:08:58.400 Because if I'm to say it's bad, then I'm basically saying we failed.
00:09:02.400 But we're just going to come up with an excuse for later on why the economy is bad.
00:09:06.120 It's probably going to be because of Trump.
00:09:08.400 Right now, Canadians have lost faith in our party, and we have to earn back their trust.
00:09:14.860 We need to...
00:09:15.540 Why did they lose faith in the party?
00:09:17.800 ...rebuild our party so that we can keep building our country.
00:09:21.380 We need new leadership to fight for everyday Canadians.
00:09:26.420 A leader who understands what people are going through and works every day to make their lives better.
00:09:32.260 A leader with a track record of standing up to bullies, and a leader who won't back down.
00:09:39.320 Do any of those things ring true about Karina Gould?
00:09:42.240 Have you noticed her, you know, standing up to any bullies recently?
00:09:46.280 I'm Karina Gould, and I'm running to be your next leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.
00:09:51.380 There are people out there tearing down Canada, saying the country is broken, saying we should become American.
00:10:00.600 So to them...
00:10:02.560 What are those five people selling Alberta 51st hats in, like, Grand Prairie?
00:10:08.300 What are we talking about?
00:10:09.800 Let me tell you what Canada is.
00:10:12.100 It's the local hockey rink or soccer pitch where kids shoot for their dreams.
00:10:17.020 It's the maple leaf sewn on every backpack.
00:10:19.500 It's the poutine and beaver tail after playing outside.
00:10:23.720 It's helping your neighbours shovel their driveway after a snowstorm.
00:10:27.720 I hate stuff like this.
00:10:31.060 Rather than actually, like, defining Canada along real principles, Canada is a country of, like, you know, of strong families and individuals and freedom to pursue your own success in the economy and to, you know, to worship in the way you want your God and whatnot.
00:10:49.320 It's always just stuff.
00:10:50.720 It's the local hockey rink.
00:10:52.860 It's, you know, it's that...
00:10:55.000 Canada is when the butter that you put on your waffle kind of forms little pools of butter in each of the little cross hatches of the waffle.
00:11:04.300 That's Canada.
00:11:05.880 Canada is when you pull off a Band-Aid and it doesn't hurt because it doesn't rip any of the hairs out.
00:11:11.280 That's Canada.
00:11:12.320 Canada is when you sew a maple leaf to your backpack to go vacationing in Vietnam.
00:11:24.000 We are a strong, hardworking, and caring people who do not back down from fighting for what is...
00:11:31.280 This part's better, at least.
00:11:32.500 You got to get away from the, like, stupid personifications.
00:11:35.940 Right.
00:11:37.700 Canada can be the best place in the world to start a family, grow a business, and build a future.
00:11:44.640 We are a nation of dreamers and doers.
00:11:47.700 Notice how she said we can be, not that we currently are.
00:11:51.300 Creators and innovators.
00:11:53.320 It's where opportunity, empathy, and progress walk hand in hand.
00:11:58.180 It's time for a new generation of leadership that understands you and is focused on you.
00:12:03.740 So, I'm here for Canada.
00:12:06.360 Today, tomorrow, and for years to come.
00:12:09.760 Join me so that together we can earn the trust of Canadians, build the future we want, and win the next election.
00:12:17.580 There's something so...
00:12:19.400 Yeah, it's not a bad logo, I give it to her.
00:12:21.520 There's something about that video that's, like, uncanny.
00:12:24.560 Like, the whole thing feels a little bit like AI because of, like, the kind of digital tracking of her head that's, like, cutting off the top of her head half the time.
00:12:32.960 And then, like, the audio is, like, peaking the entire time, like if I talked right up here in the microphone.
00:12:41.320 But Karina Gould, probably the most competent video, had more personality than Christy Freeland.
00:12:48.780 Christy Freeland has to have a lot of production around her.
00:12:52.580 This is a point that J.J. McCullough had made on X a couple hours ago.
00:12:56.740 And, by the way, I have a really good interview with J.J. being released tomorrow, Sunday.
00:13:02.240 So, check that out.
00:13:03.080 It's going to be, like, an hour and 20.
00:13:04.660 But it's interesting.
00:13:05.600 He's done a lot of stuff in politics.
00:13:06.940 Very interesting political thinker.
00:13:09.700 Great YouTuber.
00:13:10.500 But he made the point that for Freeland to be at her best, you have to have, like, an editor of videos and a producer that really de-emphasize Freeland in her own video.
00:13:23.220 Like, you've got to have stuff on screen.
00:13:25.000 You've got to really have a lot of stuff kind of appearing around her.
00:13:28.060 You've got to, like, make her artificially interesting.
00:13:31.000 You cannot coast on her personality alone.
00:13:34.300 You have to kind of have an entire, like, narrative built around her and then just have her not just try and touch nothing.
00:13:41.600 Don't mess it up.
00:13:42.800 Mark Carney is the epitome of boredom.
00:13:45.820 He is an assistant professor who doesn't understand the syllabus very well, but he's filling in for a guy who's sick.
00:13:51.980 Mark Carney is not interesting at all.
00:13:54.040 And that's why, even though Team Trudeau is behind him, this guy can easily lose this leadership race.
00:13:59.340 And I don't know at the moment who's funniest to win other than Chandra Aria because he doesn't speak French and he barely speaks English.
00:14:07.840 That would be funny.
00:14:09.100 So if you're buying a Liberal Party membership, I'd first recommend Frank Bayless because he's the legitimately, if you're trying to vote for the most conservative liberal, it'd be Frank Bayless.
00:14:17.780 And then number two, go to the funny man, Chandra Aria, because I love the fact that that guy is an anti-DEI candidate, oddly enough.
00:14:28.280 But at the same time, he's, like, can't speak French at all, can barely speak English.
00:14:34.760 He needs DEI in his life in order to keep this job as MP.
00:14:39.000 But, you know, who am I to judge?
00:14:41.240 So that's it for today, us talking about these videos.
00:14:44.640 Because, again, deeply hypocritical, every single one of these candidates is a hypocrite.
00:14:49.840 That's why I keep highlighting the one-word question, why?
00:14:55.260 Why are you doing this?
00:14:56.440 Just why?
00:14:57.680 Why are you running?
00:14:59.000 What was wrong with Trudeau?
00:15:00.540 Because if you can't answer those questions, you can't just say, oh, we need to build back trust.
00:15:05.380 You have to say why we lost the trust in the first place, or I don't trust that you know how to get it back.
00:15:09.580 Again, I'd never vote for any of these people.
00:15:11.140 I'm a very conservative conservative, so all these people don't interest me at all.
00:15:15.720 But it's at least interesting seeing them trying to maneuver around and take the leadership of this very cult-like party, to be frank.
00:15:23.900 Anyway, so like this video, subscribe to the channel, comment.
00:15:28.080 Who do you think is going to win?
00:15:29.360 Are you going to sign up for the Liberal Party's membership just to vote in the leadership race might be fun?
00:15:36.020 But, yeah, comment whatever you want, and I'll see you guys next time.
00:15:41.140 I'll see you guys next time.
