Jodi Gondek is the mayor of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She thinks that you should rent forever and not actually own your own home, and that would make you happier, more liberated, and free. She has a PhD in Urban Sociology, but she doesn t believe in the idea of renting and getting more services from the government. That's why she thinks you should live in a world where you could rent everything or lease everything from government corporations, and somehow you would be happier for it.

00:00:00.000 You all know the meme phrase from the World Economic Forum, you will own nothing and you will be happy.
00:00:05.960 An absurd statement that was actually made at the World Economic Forum's 2016 conference, which the WF had clipped themselves and posted online thinking it was a really inspiring notion that you could live in a world where you rent everything or lease everything from government corporations and somehow you would be happier for it.
00:00:26.040 Absolutely insane. But there are actually some people out there who are true believers in this kind of trade unionist stakeholder capitalism, really just mean socialism ideology and are actively pushing it whenever they can.
00:00:39.920 A prime example of this is my mayor, Calgary's mayor, Yoti Gondek, who believes that you should rent forever and not actually own your own home and that would make you happier, more liberated and free. Here's her saying this on camera.
00:00:55.180 So we're starting to see a segment of the population reject this idea of owning a home and they're moving towards rental because it gives them more freedom.
00:01:02.800 They can travel to different places. They can try out different communities. Their job may take them from place to place.
00:01:08.500 And so people have become much more liberated around what housing looks like and what the tenure of housing looks like.
00:01:15.120 But as municipalities, we haven't kept pace with that change. We're still stuck in the 40s, 50s and 60s.
00:01:22.000 I find it telling that she accidentally mumbled the word liberated and pronounced it illiberated.
00:01:29.260 Nobody is rejecting the idea of 40s, 50s and 60s style home ownership.
00:01:34.700 Everyone would love that. There's a reason why there's a lot of Zoomers and millennials sharing 40s, 50s and 60 memes, 0.96
00:01:40.600 making fun of the fact that they can't even pay their own rent while their sort of grandparents' generation could actually buy a single family stand-alone home on a single salary.
00:01:51.880 And the reason we can't now is not just because that was just a small bubble of an era where that was possible and it was never possible again.
00:01:59.540 It could be possible today.
00:02:00.880 The reason why people feel more liberated renting these days is because people like Jody Gondek and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have made it way too expensive to own a home through terrible public policy.
00:02:13.700 It's not capitalism's fault. It's not any of the people's faults that socialists would blame.
00:02:18.340 It's the fault of people like Justin Trudeau who allow for extremely high immigration, creating artificial demand within Canada's housing markets, keeping taxes high, keeping regulations high.
00:02:29.760 And then Jody Gondek, when she sees this problem in the city of Calgary, rather than thinking to herself,
00:02:35.420 huh, maybe I should make it faster to build homes in this city and lower property taxes. 0.92
00:02:40.600 No, she takes a bribe from Justin Trudeau's liberal government and starts pushing a plan to just wipe out all zoning laws in Canada
00:02:48.680 and forcing hyper-densification in all of Calgary's neighborhoods. 0.89
00:02:53.540 That's ridiculous.
00:02:54.460 It is trying to bowl over people's freedom to choose where to live by saying that no matter where you live, 0.91
00:03:00.240 there could be a six-plex next door, there could be an apartment building,
00:03:03.140 rather than just making it cheaper to build and making it actually cheaper to own a home.
00:03:08.740 These days, who wants to own a home with all the extra costs, with the government changing the nature of the neighborhood that you bought into?
00:03:15.380 People would love, no matter what age demographic, people would love to actually be able to own a home.
00:03:19.840 People would love to be able to own a home and a summer home somewhere else,
00:03:22.240 and they can't even rent their first one.
00:03:24.020 That's why people like to rent. 0.70
00:03:26.220 But you can just tell from seeing Jodi Gondek talk that she has a PhD in urban sociology.
00:03:33.980 She believes that this is the changing sort of fabric of city life.
00:03:38.340 It's about renting.
00:03:39.320 It's about moving cities.
00:03:40.540 It's about not having a real home where your family lives or anything like that,
00:03:45.080 because who cares about family?
00:03:46.520 Because she doesn't believe in the idea of that.
00:03:48.600 She thinks that you should be renting and getting more and more services from the government.
00:03:53.380 That's why she keeps pushing more services, and that's why she keeps in a city environment where the city should just be taking care of potholes, police, and a couple other things. 1.00
00:04:01.500 She's calling climate emergencies, trying to charge you for getting a fast food bag, banning plastic bags from grocery stores.
00:04:09.340 She's a big government bully, and you know this because if you ever watch clips of her in city council, condolences if you do. 0.99
00:04:17.240 She bullies and natters at people who do not agree with her. 0.67
00:04:21.220 There was a man who was opposing the blanket rezoning and saying why it won't even make housing cheaper in Calgary,
00:04:26.740 and she started basically attacking him for disagreeing with them.
00:04:30.640 She is a very petty individual.
00:04:32.840 She has a sub-30%, or I think it's maybe exactly 30%, approval rating. 0.98
00:04:38.500 It is so easy to have a high approval rating as a mayor in Canada.
00:04:42.960 Olivia Chow has a very good approval rating because every new mayor gets, you know, people just take it for granted. 1.00
00:04:49.220 You're doing a good job.
00:04:50.500 Jodi Gondek was so bad at her job, even though there's a lot of middle class people who are willing to say,
00:04:55.480 yeah, she seems nice, she's probably doing a good job. 0.95
00:04:58.220 I don't look into it too much, but she's probably doing a good job.
00:05:01.060 She was so aggressive when she became the mayor of the city, pushing all this crazy nonsense 0.84
00:05:05.720 that even those middle class, upper middle class voters willing to give the mayor a chance just immediately walked away from her.
00:05:13.460 And it's because she is a true believer.
00:05:16.620 Nahed Nenshi, when he was the mayor, was not a good mayor.
00:05:19.360 But he knew how to move slow enough that Calgarians wouldn't toss him over the side of the boat right away.
00:05:26.140 Gondek is such a true believer.
00:05:28.000 She'll come out and say, well, I think people actually want to rent for the rest of their lives.
00:05:32.500 Insane.
00:05:33.000 No, they do not.
00:05:34.200 And if you actually rent for your entire life, you'll basically pay more in rent than you would,
00:05:38.160 even if you just bought a home, even at our high prices.
00:05:40.840 But she has no ability to hold herself back. 1.00
00:05:43.780 She absorbs stupid ideas like a sponge. 1.00
00:05:46.040 And so she thinks everyone else will absorb her stupid ideas like a sponge. 1.00
00:05:50.100 And she goes out to the public and just says what the type of person who actually thinks the WF has good ideas would say. 1.00
00:05:56.260 And everyone immediately reacts like she's like a monster from the deep.
00:06:01.400 And this is what needs to be exposed way more.
00:06:04.120 The kind of radical, far, far left ideology that many liberal individuals,
00:06:09.620 and why I'm putting liberal in quotes is because these people are not classical liberals in any way.
00:06:14.100 They're leftists.
00:06:15.480 That's the only way you could define these people.
00:06:17.420 Leftists, trade unionists, anarcho-syndicalists,
00:06:20.980 people with these absurd antiquated ideologies that should have died after 1945,
00:06:25.940 but somehow didn't.
00:06:27.080 Because if you look into what the WF believes, it's like microwaved Italian fascism.
00:06:32.920 It's trade unionism, but on a worldwide basis, that's what stakeholder capitalism is.
00:06:38.100 That trade unions, that people who live in your area,
00:06:40.960 that all these different interest groups should be able to tell you how to run your business.
00:06:44.460 And when they can tell you how to run your business alongside other government entities,
00:06:48.560 you don't own your business anymore.
00:06:50.040 And that's why at the start of the video,
00:06:51.660 I talked about the absurd notion that you would rent and lease all services and products from government corporations.
00:06:57.380 Because once the government is basically telling you how to run your business on a day-to-day basis,
00:07:01.600 you don't own your business anymore.
00:07:03.260 Might have your name on the front, but you don't own it.
00:07:05.880 This is why in the next mayoral election in Calgary and across Canada,
00:07:11.200 both municipal elections, provincial elections, and federal elections,
00:07:15.380 you've got to vote for people who will reverse this stuff.
00:07:18.340 It might not happen overnight, but in the next 10, 20 years,
00:07:21.420 we need people who will start marching the line of absurdity back towards what we used to have 0.69
00:07:27.140 in the 80s and 90s where we wouldn't push for this insane garbage 0.56
00:07:31.820 where we want to make the government basically dominant in people's lives. 0.52
00:07:36.060 And I'm trying to do that now.
00:07:37.620 Shameless plug.
00:07:38.460 That's why in Calgary, I'm running for the Calgary-Signal Hill Conservative Party nomination.
00:07:43.540 You know, on the west side of Calgary,
00:07:45.260 these are what the nomination boundaries will look like after they change in late April.
00:07:49.780 Buy a membership and vote for me if you can.
00:07:51.940 WyattClaypool.com in the description below.
00:07:53.740 Check it out.
00:07:54.180 But we need people who will actually not just be a little bit more conservative than the current
00:07:59.960 liberals, but people who will actually start shifting the status quo to something tolerable
00:08:05.280 and enforce that status quo.
00:08:07.280 There are way too many Aaron O'Toole's out there who end up, when they fight with the liberals,
00:08:12.000 don't actually oppose the ideological positions they take.
00:08:17.640 They merely say they need to moderate them.
00:08:19.820 That's why Jody Gondek won the 2021 municipal election.
00:08:23.180 I know some people are wanting to push the idea that somehow they cheated, voting machines,
00:08:28.280 whatever.
00:08:28.580 No, no, no.
00:08:29.180 She won because nobody voted, and all the people competing against her made no case as
00:08:33.780 to why she would have made a bad mayor. 1.00
00:08:35.680 If people like Jeremy Farkas and Jeff Davison really weren't saying anything negative about
00:08:40.780 Jody Gondek, they never said really anything that different from her.
00:08:43.440 Yeah, they kind of made noises about wanting to lower property taxes, but they never really
00:08:48.340 made a big ideological break from the big municipal government type vision that Gondek
00:08:54.360 had.
00:08:54.880 They were almost all being very complimentary to her because they've been indoctrinated to
00:08:59.080 this idea that for conservatives to win, you just have to be a slight step to the right
00:09:03.200 of the liberals and play along, be nice, and apologize for everything that you never did
00:09:07.160 when the media accuses you of it.
00:09:08.560 So, we need more Rob Fords, basically, is what I'm trying to say.
00:09:12.740 We need more Rob Fords, not the Koch part, but we need more Rob Fords who are obvious
00:09:18.160 conservatives who, when they run for any jurisdiction of government, whether it's municipal office,
00:09:24.720 provincial office, or federal office, are willing to reverse things. 0.99
00:09:28.840 Just wipe out, repeal, get rid of stupid liberal programs, oppose liberal ideology, not just make 0.99
00:09:35.640 the decisions in government that are better, but openly state why left-wing ideology is 1.00
00:09:41.400 toxic like this. 1.00
00:09:42.760 This is a horrible vision for the future, and we need to kill it. 0.99
00:09:47.000 Anyways, that was all I wanted to say today, guys. 0.95
00:09:50.800 If you live in Calgary, make sure to vote against Jody Gondek.
00:09:53.860 If you live in my riding, check out my website, WyattClaypool.com, buy federal conservative
00:09:58.480 party membership.
00:09:59.680 Anyone in your household can vote if they're 14 years old and a permanent resident.
00:10:02.920 And also, if you want to donate to mine and the National Telegraph's legal fund, it's
00:10:07.860 in the Give, Send, Go link in the description below.
00:10:10.240 We are being sued by a billionaire developer for nothing.
00:10:13.040 He's trying to sue us for defamation, still hasn't provided any evidence for how we did
00:10:16.720 that after over two years of this case ongoing.
00:10:19.360 And our article, when we referenced this guy, the article wasn't even about him.
00:10:22.800 When we referenced him in the article, we merely pointed to a Globe and Mail investigation
00:10:27.500 about him that was out for more than a year and a half before we published our work.
00:10:31.380 Yeah, he apparently never sued them for it.
00:10:33.460 He's just trying to sue us because he thought he could bully me because he didn't think I
00:10:37.240 had a lot of money to defend myself.
00:10:38.640 I don't, but I'm willing to put every single penny I have towards fighting him.
00:10:42.980 So anything you can pitch into that really helps me out.
00:10:46.520 Or, again, buy a membership and vote for me if you're in my area.
00:10:49.780 Anyways, that should be it for me today.
00:10:52.020 Have a great one.
00:10:52.780 Thank you.
