The National Telegraph - Wyatt Claypool - Mark Carney is economically incompetent - “Knowing” the business world means nothing in politics.

It reminds me of when Mark Carney was on the debate stage for the Liberal Party Leadership in early 2025, and when he was asked, "How are you going to solve the trade issue with President Donald Trump?" he gave the worst answer I've ever heard.

00:00:00.000 Hey guys, Wyatt here. I just wanted to echo this thought that Tristan Hopper put out on X just a

00:00:06.640 little bit ago. He was talking about how the Liberals had been marketing Mark Carney as a guy

00:00:12.760 you can trust with Canadian economy because he knows other business people. He knows the business

00:00:19.080 world really well. What does that actually mean? We've now lived with it for over a year with

00:00:26.000 Prime Minister Mark Carney, and what has that actually gotten us? Does him knowing people mean

00:00:32.600 that the economy is going to get better? Well, evidently not, but this is just one of those

00:00:37.060 things many people accepted as if it made any sense at all. It reminded me of when Mark Carney

00:00:43.380 was on the debate stage for the Liberal Party leadership in early 2025, and when he was asked,

00:00:51.080 well how are you going to solve the trade issue with president donald trump he gave the worst

00:00:56.640 answer i've ever heard but it was an answer that a lot of people just bought at the time because

00:01:01.760 a lot of people don't tend to think very deeply about the answers politicians give he just said

00:01:06.180 i'd use diplomacy i'd use our uh our diplomacy i would negotiate like what do you mean this is like

00:01:13.540 the worst answer to a problem in the game of dungeons and dragons oh i haggle with him oh i

00:01:19.480 try and lie. I use guile. What do you mean by that? What are you actually going to say, Mark

00:01:25.480 Carney, when you're in the room with Donald Trump? Because it turns out you're not going to be able

00:01:30.220 to say, I'm not going to diplomacy you. And then you're going to roll a dice and see if it works

00:01:35.320 or not. That's not how that works. And lo and behold, we still do not have a trade deal with

00:01:42.320 the United States. Wow, who would have thunk it that the guy who thought diplomacy equals a

00:01:48.060 strategy didn't actually know what he's doing, simply saying that we should diplomacy. Oh my

00:01:53.260 goodness. And yeah, and Tristan Hopper is right with his original thought. Knowing people in the

00:01:57.840 business world doesn't make Canada a good asset to invest in. If he isn't going to massively cut

00:02:04.260 taxes and regulations and just generally cut down on government spending, his friends are not going

00:02:10.840 to invest. He can know everybody on the planet, and they're not going to invest in Canada if it's

00:02:16.580 a bad investment. They don't like Mark Carney that much that they're willing to lose money

00:02:21.000 investing in Canada just to back up their buddy Mark. It's never how it's going to work.
