00:00:20.660 and hoping that enough of them are willing to do their very technical and cost-heavy job for like $15.

00:01:16.800 It's great news, Mr. Speaker, because unlike the member opposite,
00:01:19.880 we're working with dental providers and we're opening up a new portal,
00:01:23.700 which means that in order to participate, all they have to do is accept that dental card and provide service.
00:01:30.220 And the dentists that I'm talking to as we work through these issues of the negotiation

00:01:37.420 which is to make sure that every Canadian from coast to coast to coast gets oral health care.
00:01:42.640 That means 1.8 million seniors and soon 9 million Canadians who will have the oral health care that they need.

00:01:59.000 I don't think he realizes that Stephen Ellis actually has the background numbers on the dentists that are participating.
00:02:04.620 Well, interestingly enough, the Minister of Health of the NDP Liberal government has been singing the praises

00:02:43.220 And I guarantee you, the only people that are signing up for this program are people very new to the dental field
00:02:48.320 who don't have a lot of clients and are willing to take the universal dental insurance in order to do their job

00:02:55.940 That's the only people who are actually going to sign up to do this work.
00:02:59.720 This is the problem with a lot of government programs.
00:03:01.940 It relies on actually paying the service providers or people providing the product way less than they actually should be.
00:03:09.220 And you'll get some people out there saying, well, they should be accepting less.

00:03:17.160 They're paying out dentists at like half the rate an insurance company would.
00:03:21.000 And they're trying to get rid of the deductible entirely, which means that dentists are being paid like 50 bucks to do a teeth cleaning
00:03:28.620 or to like if you need a cavity filled, they're being paid a couple hundred bucks.
00:03:33.060 And when you think of all the overhead costs on a dentist, this is not a cheap field to be working in.
00:03:38.280 You're making nothing at the end of the day.
00:03:40.320 And so the liberals, this thing is all falling apart and they're just hoping that enough people think I have universal dental care abstractly

00:03:49.440 And they somehow are more approving of the liberals because abstractly I now have dental care.
00:03:55.380 It's not true, but I want to see what Mark Holland says to this now.

00:04:27.000 When he's talking about this new portal, yes, more people can sign up and get the card to be able to accept universal dental,

00:04:37.140 It's not because of a lack of knowledge about how to navigate the government websites to sign up for these programs.

00:04:46.920 I'm not sure I can put that in any other terms.
00:04:49.700 The program sucks and people don't want to participate because it turns out people want to do their jobs for a good wage.
00:04:55.680 And a good wage is relative to the amount of skill and actual overhead costs that are involved in the job.
00:05:02.680 So dentists are not going to do this for $30 an hour doing incredibly technical work that most people are not qualified to do.
00:05:10.800 And they could have just gone to be accountants or they could have just worked in construction and made way more money.
00:05:15.220 They're basically trying to bully dentists.
00:05:17.740 And mark my words, in the next year, if the liberals are still around, they're going to try and force dentists to take this care and have to meet quotas for how many universal dental clients they're taking in.
00:05:30.660 And then basically, because dentists are not making money, they're going to have to raise the rates on people with regular insurance or people who don't have insurance at all.
00:05:38.080 So, ridiculous, it really just demonstrates that the liberals do not know what they're doing, but they want votes so they're willing to throw money around at just about any stupid program idea possible.
