Jagmeet Singh is trying to make his fake fight against Justin Trudeau look like a real fight, but it's just a fake fight. It's a bait and switch tax relief plan that doesn't actually need to be made permanent.

00:00:00.000 Hey guys, Wyatt Claypool here. You probably heard me talking a couple of days ago about Jagmeet Singh pretending like he was going on the offensive against Justin Trudeau, and it's all a big fake fight.
00:00:12.460 The GST-HST freeze was something that Jagmeet Singh and the NDP were supporting as soon as the liberals proposed it, but then a few days ago, Singh realized that he was looking really weak and pathetic, both supporting this very minor tax relief at the same time he doesn't care about the carbon tax doubling in April, and he was also attacking the conservatives for not being in favor of it, which just made him look even more like Justin Trudeau's secretary.
00:00:38.920 So then all of a sudden, he wants certain aspects of the GST freeze to be made permanent, to permanently take the GST-HST off of certain items, or I guess just the GST because provinces can choose if they want to keep their provincial tax side of the HST on essential items, but he wants it off of diapers and certain foods and certain different ready-made meals and whatnot, and it's been all a very, very weak play by him.
00:01:08.400 So this is what Jagmeet Singh said this morning, trying to push this Monday vote about trying to make it permanent, even though he could have been talking about this from the start and didn't.
00:01:18.600 He says,
00:01:19.720 No parent should struggle to afford diapers for their child. Not now, not ever. New Democrats secured a GST holiday for Canadians.
00:01:28.060 Today, Parliament will vote on our motion to permanently remove the GST off essentials. How will conservatives and liberals vote?
00:01:35.040 Now, this is such a curious thing to say. He says,
00:01:38.000 New Democrats secured a GST holiday for Canadians.
00:01:41.720 So he's admitting he is both the person who helped conceive the two-month GST-HST freeze with the liberals.
00:01:50.840 At the same time, now suddenly he's attacking his own piece of legislation, his own tax holiday, because it's not permanent.
00:01:59.360 Well, which one is it? Did you create the temporary version, or did you always want the permanent version?
00:02:05.820 Because it was only as of like three days ago that Jagmeet Singh actually came out and said,
00:02:10.820 I would like the GST freeze to be permanent on essential items.
00:02:14.980 By the way, too, the only reason people need this tax relief, which it's completely fake, it's a bait and switch.
00:02:22.140 They're about to double the carbon tax in April. That's also why they're giving out $250 checks in April, which is going to be purely paid for through inflation.
00:02:29.780 They're doing this to soften the blow for greater tax increases.
00:02:33.880 But the only reason people need tax relief or need dental care or need free pharma care, which they don't really need it,
00:02:40.320 is because the government, through high taxes and regulations, have bankrupted a lot of people.
00:02:45.660 So now they need more assistance.
00:02:47.780 Funny how people didn't need this assistance when Stephen Harper was prime minister,
00:02:51.560 or even when, like, Jean Chrétien or Paul Martin were prime minister,
00:02:55.960 even when liberals were in power, when they were a little bit more sensible with their policy,
00:03:01.420 people weren't so bankrupt that they needed more government assistance to make ends meet.
00:03:06.260 But all of this was followed up by a great video yesterday from Pierre Polyev
00:03:12.760 absolutely hammering Jagmeet Singh as hard as humanly possible,
00:03:17.500 because he sees the game that Jagmeet Singh is playing.
00:03:20.200 I think we can all see the game Jagmeet Singh is playing.
00:03:22.980 It's this stupid inside-outside game where, at the same time that he is backing the liberals
00:03:28.460 on absolutely everything, he's pretending to be, like, an attack dog against the liberals.
00:03:34.100 He's not. He is Justin Trudeau's executive assistant.
00:03:37.740 So here's the post from Pierre Polyev yesterday.
00:03:41.000 He says,
00:03:41.880 Jagmeet Singh won't call an election. Why?
00:03:44.420 Because he works for Trudeau, who guarantees him a pension next year.
00:03:48.260 Trudeau gets power, Singh gets his pension.
00:03:50.200 You get the bill.
00:03:51.600 And then they just have some petition there.
00:03:53.560 You know, all parties are always trying to get people to sign petitions.
00:03:56.240 But I thought this video was particularly effective at mocking Jagmeet Singh.
00:04:01.220 And you could say, well, that's not exactly a very high concept sort of a goal.
00:04:05.060 In my mind, it kind of is.
00:04:08.180 Jagmeet Singh's only legitimacy is the idea that he's, like, a serious political, you know, attack dog.
00:04:14.760 And I think once you defang him, he is probably going to drop even farther in the polls.
00:04:19.300 Because right now he's trying to create a fake redemption arc that I've ripped up the supply and confidence agreement.
00:04:24.640 And I'm now here to fight, you know, fight Justin Trudeau tooth and nail at the same time he keeps supporting Trudeau on everything.
00:04:31.960 And now says he won't even vote in favor of the no confidence motion, which is based entirely on his own words.
00:04:38.140 I don't want a liberal government.
00:04:39.980 I don't want Justin Trudeau as prime minister.
00:04:41.920 We have absolutely ripped up the agreement with Justin Trudeau.
00:04:44.340 Justin Trudeau is playing political games.
00:04:46.680 And the only person that's winning is himself.
00:04:48.740 He has come across very out of touch.
00:04:50.600 He's ignored a lot of the problems people are going through.
00:04:52.700 People are absolutely fed up with and done with Justin Trudeau and the liberals.
00:04:56.440 The liberals have let people down again and again.
00:05:00.360 And they are done.
00:05:02.520 Why are you working with Justin Trudeau when he's doing such a bad job?
00:05:06.480 I got to tell you, it is not easy.
00:05:08.420 We're ready for whenever election comes.
00:05:10.360 We're going to vote against any measure that attacks working people.
00:05:14.120 Because we're going to be voting in favor of the budget.
00:05:15.840 I've received some openness to fixing the problems that I've outlined.
00:05:19.820 And we're not going to let the liberal government off the hook.
00:05:21.920 The next election, people have a choice.
00:05:23.560 I stand by my words.
00:05:24.880 Trudeau has let you down.
00:05:26.040 Trudeau has let you down and does not deserve another choice.
00:05:29.280 And it was really clear to me, there's mounting evidence that Justin Trudeau and the liberals were just too weak.
00:05:36.480 I stand by my words.
00:05:39.440 Now it's getting into all the screenshots of headlines saying that Jagmeet Singh will not be voting in favor of the conservatives' non-confidence votes and will be supporting the liberals.
00:05:48.420 After all those statements against Trudeau and the liberals.
00:05:51.380 Trudeau has let you down.
00:05:52.980 Trudeau has let you down and does not deserve another choice.
00:05:55.640 Like, I'm not trying to be like too TLC about this whole thing.
00:06:12.500 But I don't think you can really come back after that or get a good jab in at Pierre Polyev.
00:06:17.760 Like, what are you going to say to Pierre Polyev?
00:06:19.460 But Jagmeet Singh already attempted his big line, which he just took from his MP, Leah Gazzan, who's an absolute crazy person.
00:06:27.700 Like, an absolute nutter.
00:06:29.780 I wish the NDP would also care about Canadians just a third as much as they hate Israel.
00:06:35.680 And we might be, you know, in a better position right now.
00:06:38.420 But he already deployed his line against Polyev.
00:06:41.500 Pierre Polyev is a bootlicker for billionaires.
00:06:44.880 Why?
00:06:45.460 Well, because the conservative government back in the day cut some corporate taxes, which is a good thing.
00:06:49.980 They cut corporate taxes by 7%.
00:06:52.500 Not like, you know, it was 18% then it was 11%.
00:06:55.900 It was like the 7% of the total amount they were paying went down.
00:07:00.040 That was a sensible policy.
00:07:01.680 And you say, no, he won't even vote for this GST tax holiday.
00:07:04.640 You're not even voting for it, Jagmeet, apparently.
00:07:06.700 Even you think it's a bad bill.
00:07:08.340 That's why you're trying to modify it.
00:07:09.600 You can't then say, like, Pierre, you're a bootlicker for billionaires.
00:07:14.720 This is an anti-small business tax relief bill, tax relief measure, because it's two months.
00:07:20.480 It goes from December 14th to February 14th or 17th.
00:07:23.340 I forget what the end date is exactly.
00:07:25.360 And what it ends up doing is causing crazy amounts of problems for small businesses.
00:07:29.440 Because the logic of what is tax-exempt during this time and what is not is clownish.
00:07:38.240 Here is Kevin Vaughn, the independent MP for Spadina Fort York, laying out some of these ridiculous contradictions in the bill.
00:07:47.720 I'm going to try and pull it up here so it looks a bit better.
00:07:50.100 But the thing is that you will, it will literally, the taxes will apply to one thing and then not another, which are completely arbitrary.
00:07:57.060 So I'll just read out Kevin Vaughn's post here, because I think he sums it up quite well.
00:08:01.580 Again, I wish that, I hope that Kevin gets added to the Conservative Party Caucus.
00:08:05.980 He is, without a doubt, one of the most effective MPs currently in Parliament.
00:08:10.700 He was somebody who actually named names of people probably involved in foreign interference.
00:08:14.560 You can't read the NSCOP report, but through journalists, they were able to kind of compile a list of people definitely involved in Chinese Communist Party fret groups and all that sort of stuff.
00:08:23.760 But here's his take on the GST tax relief.
00:08:28.340 He says,
00:08:28.740 So yeah, he says,
00:08:58.740 Imagine a small business who has to individually code into your point of sale terminal all the exemptions for what is or isn't tax exempt, and then charge it all back two months later.
00:09:09.160 This is what happens when you have government comms shop setting policy.
00:09:13.060 When folks ask me how I could have agreed to run when I asked, it's because new to politics, Kevin wanted to bring a clearly missing small business perspective that I naively thought would be welcome.
00:09:23.780 He's saying this part because Kevin Vaughn actually originally ran as a Liberal, and I don't blame him.
00:09:29.500 It's Spadina Fort York.
00:09:30.780 You're either going to win that riding as a Liberal or a New Democrat.
00:09:34.000 And he never even sat in Parliament as a Liberal because the Liberals threw him out over this really stupid smear campaign about some stupid sexual accusation against him.
00:09:44.680 Really, it's just because Trudeau is quite bad with women over time.
00:09:48.300 So they kicked out Kevin over something nonsense to pretend the Liberal party actually cares about that sort of thing.
00:09:54.900 So and finishing off a statement, he says,
00:09:57.240 We need people who know the pressure of making payroll, the stressors of low sale of months, and the weight of your staff counting on you to pay their rent and mortgage.
00:10:05.100 And I think that's also a good thing to talk about here.
00:10:09.080 This is a tax exemption, a partial tax exemption that is only taking place, that is only effective during the two months of the year where sales are down significantly.
00:10:21.920 It's late into the holiday season.
00:10:23.900 People have mostly paid for all the holiday stuff that they're going to pay for.
00:10:27.900 January and February are notorious low sale months for everything.
00:10:32.000 So people coming, it's stupid to have a tax exemption that's going to put stress on small business owners.
00:10:39.460 And I think they've calculated that the average savings that Canadians will get from this 5% GST reduction, HST reduction, it'll be bigger in certain areas.
00:10:50.580 But the average saving will be like $5 over the two months, $5.
00:10:56.580 Because 5% is really not that much in the grand scheme of things, especially when it's only applying to certain items.
00:11:03.280 And those items are only a couple dollars themselves, that it's going to take a while before this adds up into absolutely anything.
00:11:11.380 Anyways, that should be it for me today, guys.
00:11:14.800 If you want to support the channel, make sure you subscribe to the channel, like this video, leave a comment.
00:11:18.960 And of course, if you can, donating to the legal fund always helps.
00:11:23.060 We are now up to $34,000.
00:11:25.440 I've paid defending us from this Chinese billionaire developer suing us for defamation in which he has not actually submitted any evidence to prove his claim in over three years now.
00:11:36.320 Anyways, that's it for me.
00:11:37.960 See you guys later.
