Summary

The Conservative Party has a plan to force Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to cancel a planned increase to the carbon tax by 23% on April 1st, or the Tories will force a no confidence vote in the government. This is a brilliant piece of political theatre that will force the Liberals to vote in favour of the increase.

00:00:00.000 Some breaking news here. Conservative Party leader Pierre Polyev is demanding that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau cancel the 23% planned increase to the carbon tax on April 1st, or the Conservative Party will have a no-confidence vote on Justin Trudeau's Liberal government tomorrow in Parliament.
00:00:18.220 Now, if you've been watching Canadian politics for even a moderate amount of time, you already know that this vote is not actually going to succeed in its literal intent to dissolve the government and have a new federal election.
00:00:28.900 The NDP and the bloc will vote to hold up the Liberal government, but what Pierre Polyev is actually doing here is a piece of political calculus I think is actually extremely smart.
00:00:39.620 I first want to play the video of him announcing this action, and then I want to jump over to why I believe this is actually kind of a stroke of political genius.
00:00:48.680 Because what he is doing here is obviously not trying to topple the government, but make the NDP the bloc and the Liberals all put their money where their mouths are.
00:00:56.500 But before I get to the video, I just want to quickly do a shameless plug that I, Wyatt Claypool, am running for the Conservative Party nomination for Calgary Signal Hill.
00:01:05.060 It's on the west side of Calgary, so if you live in this area, check if you live in the riding, buy a Conservative Party membership, and check out my website in the description below, wyattclaypool.com.
00:01:14.700 Anyways, here is Pierre Polyev making this announcement about the carbon tax non-confidence vote.
00:01:20.160 This is a hell we could not have imagined eight years ago.
00:01:23.820 In fact, of all the warnings we made about Justin Trudeau, that the media decried his partisanship, we never even came close to claiming he would do the things that he has now in reality done.
00:01:37.180 We were far, far too generous towards him in our interpretation of what would happen to this country under eight years of his socialist NDP policies.
00:01:48.560 So now, today I am announcing that I am giving Trudeau one last chance to spike his hike.
00:01:55.040 One last chance, and only one more day.
00:01:58.740 Today I am announcing that if Trudeau does not declare today an end to his forthcoming tax increases on food, gas, and heat,
00:02:06.520 that we will introduce a motion of non-confidence in the Prime Minister.
00:02:10.640 It will read that the House declare non-confidence in the Prime Minister and his costly government for increasing the carbon tax by 23% on April 1st,
00:02:20.460 as part of his plan to quadruple the tax, while Canadians cannot afford to eat, heat, and house themselves,
00:02:27.500 and call for the House to be dissolved so Canadians can vote in a carbon tax election.
00:02:32.700 Now, this is actually a genius piece of political theater.
00:02:38.960 Obviously, again, the non-confidence vote is not going to succeed in dissolving the government.
00:02:43.780 But what Polyev is doing is forcing the liberals to vote in favor,
00:02:48.860 or at least say that they will maintain the carbon tax increases.
00:02:52.480 Because when the carbon tax was first passed, basically every year or so,
00:02:57.260 there was planned increases in the rate of the carbon tax.
00:03:00.900 And these were sort of automatically set.
00:03:03.040 So the liberals haven't had to vote on each new increase of the carbon tax.
00:03:07.240 And this one coming up on April 1st is highly controversial.
00:03:11.860 So Polyev, knowing Trudeau is probably not going to pause it or even cancel the increase,
00:03:17.080 he is forcing the liberals to now, in a no-confidence vote,
00:03:21.960 or at least forcing the bloc and the NDP,
00:03:24.640 to say that they're on board with what the liberals are doing right now.
00:03:27.600 They don't care how high the carbon tax goes.
00:03:30.080 They care more about keeping their seats in Parliament
00:03:32.800 than opposing bad Justin Trudeau legislation and sort of high taxes.
00:03:38.980 What Polyev is also doing is he's framing a theoretical new election
00:03:44.000 as a referendum on the carbon tax.
00:03:47.080 The carbon tax has become extremely unpopular.
00:03:50.240 And especially with the conservatives occupying the anti-carbon tax position
00:03:54.020 and all the other left-wing parties occupying the pro-carbon tax position,
00:03:58.540 he could end up winning 60% plus of the vote just based on this issue alone
00:04:03.200 if you were assuming that people were going to break down along the lines
00:04:06.440 of being pro-carbon tax or anti-carbon tax.
00:04:09.420 So Pyre Polyev is going to force the NDP all the way to keep showing
00:04:14.540 that they stand with Trudeau on all of their terrible, unpopular policies,
00:04:18.900 that even the NDP base, the bloc base, all these other parties supporting the liberals,
00:04:23.260 their bases hate these policies.
00:04:24.920 They hate the incredibly high cost of living.
00:04:28.000 And Polyev is forcing them to double and triple down
00:04:31.320 on the things that they don't want to actually define them as parties in the next election.
00:04:36.800 But Trudeau doesn't want to get rid of the carbon tax,
00:04:38.960 but he also doesn't want to have to own the carbon tax.
00:04:41.660 That is why they keep trying to brand the carbon taxes now.
00:04:45.160 Oh, it's the carbon rebate program because carbon rebate sounds better than carbon tax.
00:04:49.800 And because, or they also say price on pollution.
00:04:52.480 So Trudeau doesn't, can't, also he can't get rid of the carbon tax now
00:04:56.240 because once Polyev has demanded he do it,
00:04:58.680 now there is a 0% chance Justin Trudeau will do it
00:05:01.300 because if he does it, he looks weak.
00:05:03.780 Trudeau is weak, but he's also very petty.
00:05:06.020 And Trudeau is more petty in wanting to maintain the position he has
00:05:10.900 than actually do something that will make him more popular
00:05:13.540 just because Pure Polyev challenged him to do it.
00:05:16.540 Anyways, that should be it for me today.
00:05:18.660 I'm really excited to see what's going to come out of this
00:05:21.140 because you know there's going to be a lot of whining and flopping around
00:05:24.140 by the liberals, NDP, and bloc,
00:05:26.100 not wanting to do this no confidence vote,
00:05:28.200 but also unwilling to actually defend the carbon tax.
00:05:31.500 I also have, I mentioned the fact that I'm running
00:05:34.080 for the conservative nomination, Signal Hill,
00:05:36.380 but I also have the legal fund for myself
00:05:39.460 and National Telegraph linked in the description.
00:05:41.580 It's a give, send, go link.
00:05:42.900 We have a billionaire developer suing us
00:05:44.600 over a nonsense defamation claim.
00:05:47.600 So if you want to contribute to our legal fund,
00:05:49.700 it really helps us out.
00:05:51.100 Have a great one, everyone.
