Summary

The Toronto Star cartoonist Theo Medakis has a new take on Canada's decline, and it's not a good one. In fact, it's one of the most reactionary take-aways from a Canadian political cartoon I've seen in a while.

00:00:00.000 I find that sometimes things like art and comics give you far better insight into the way the Canadian political left thinks than even their own words do.
00:00:08.340 And that's why today I want to talk about a comic from cartoonist Theo Medakis who works for the Toronto Star.
00:00:15.320 I assume that you've seen his style before. It's posted all over social media whenever he releases a new one.
00:00:20.500 He does put out anti-liberal stuff, but it's always from the idea that the liberals aren't far left enough and he thinks the conservatives are thieves and people who are misinformation machines and whatnot.
00:00:29.400 That's very, very left-wing, probably a socialist. I don't know.
00:00:32.980 But he put out this cartoon, which he thought was a big victory because so many conservatives talk about it and supposedly triggered.
00:00:38.420 I think he's mixing up people being triggered and just mocking him because his cartoon has such a reactionary view about politics that I think it demonstrates the way that many liberal and NDP politicians actually think about politics.
00:00:52.960 As long as they're just opposing conservatives, they're doing a good job.
00:00:57.360 You know, things can be really bad in Canada and as long as they're not as bad as maybe a conservative politician says, it's actually going fantastic.
00:01:05.420 That is the sort of like pro-losing message I find that many Canadian left-wing politicians have.
00:01:12.720 That as long as the decline that they are imposing onto Canada is at least not as steep as conservatives might be saying in the messaging that they put out, well, actually that's a victory and we're going to dunk on the conservatives because actually things are ever so slightly better than how Polyev portrays it in his speeches.
00:01:30.780 I think it probably is as bad as Polyev portrays it.
00:01:33.200 The left is just coping.
00:01:34.120 And this cartoon is pure cope right here.
00:01:37.460 So with a personified version of Canada, Theoma Dacus in this cartoon has Canada saying, sure, it's been a rough year, but let's remember one thing as we head into 2024.
00:01:48.280 We're Canada.
00:01:49.220 We may be a little bruised, but we're not nearly as broken as some want us to believe.
00:01:53.620 One, the Toronto Star should half this guy's salary.
00:01:56.220 A lot of his cartoons are literally basically the exact same thing in every single panel or they're just very lazy.
00:02:01.660 Look, conservatives, they're stealing your pensions and they don't like truth and facts.
00:02:05.380 It's very childish.
00:02:07.260 But this cartoon is so just pathetic.
00:02:10.680 It's hard to put words to it.
00:02:12.340 The idea that he's acknowledging Canada is bruised.
00:02:15.120 Canada is in decline in some way.
00:02:16.920 We're not doing that great.
00:02:18.860 Also, hey, conservatives thinks we're doing worse than we are.
00:02:22.000 And isn't that a good thing that we're not doing as bad?
00:02:25.120 That is the last shriek on the retreat.
00:02:27.340 And I know Theo's like, well, I'm not a liberal or NDVE or green politician.
00:02:31.500 I don't really care.
00:02:32.560 I'm just commenting on how conservative propaganda is hyperbolic or something like that.
00:02:37.680 It's like, really, though?
00:02:39.100 Is this what you dedicate your time to saying that, hey, guys, I know it's supposed to be a hopeful message.
00:02:44.600 How is it hopeful saying things are bad, but they could be worse?
00:02:48.000 That's not hopeful because things can always be worse.
00:02:50.520 You can always say things could be worse.
00:02:52.520 Yeah, sure, but this really demonstrates, I find, the reactionary way that the liberals and the NDP type of supporters and activists see Canada's condition.
00:03:02.940 Things are bad, but in order to oppose, to own the conservatives, we'll just take pride in the fact that it's not worse.
00:03:09.940 Guys, that's not a winning message.
00:03:12.160 This is the exact type of message you'd put out if you want Canadians to react to you very negatively.
00:03:17.220 Theo Madakis might be triggering conservatives, but you're also going to trigger a lot of moderate Canadians who don't usually care about politics, seeing you as being an avatar for how checked out and out to lunch the liberals are when it comes to the condition of the country.
00:03:32.900 Just because maybe whatever polio says about the country is maybe 10% too hyperbolic about how bad Canada is right now is not an own if you just point that out.
00:03:44.160 What would be an own is if the liberals actually tried to make the country better off, try to reduce inflation, try to make it so that people's small businesses wouldn't fail without government grants and subsidies because of just how subsidy-heavy our economy has become, how subsidy-reliant we've become.
00:03:59.640 That would be good.
00:04:00.300 Maybe just championing the fact that things could be worse is not good.
00:04:05.800 That's actually horrifying.
00:04:07.280 The fact that you're okay with the current condition of the country shows me that you're actually just kind of a dweeb who thinks that, well, as long as I can find an angle where the conservatives are in the wrong, I'm happy with how things are going.
00:04:20.200 If I can disagree with conservative messaging, well, then I'm okay with the current status quo.
00:04:25.740 Now, most Canadians aren't, and they shouldn't be.
00:04:27.980 Anyways, if you want to donate to my legal fund, I have it linked in the description of this video below.
00:04:32.760 Being sued by a billionaire, currently winning the case.
00:04:34.820 It's just a stupid slap suit in Alberta.
00:04:36.920 He filed it in Alberta against me specifically because he knows that if he filed in Ontario, it would get immediately anti-slapped and it would be thrown out of court.
00:04:44.620 So, I'm having to fight this.
00:04:46.980 It cost me over $25,000.
00:04:48.520 If you want to contribute to my Give, Send, Go, it's linked in the description.
00:04:51.340 It would really help me out.
00:04:53.760 This show is helping me generate some funds so I can pay for these legal costs, but they are very high.
00:04:59.560 Other than that, I'm also running for the Calgary Signal Hill Concert Party nomination.
00:05:02.760 So, if you live in that riding or you know someone who does, go check which riding you live in.
00:05:06.680 It's important to know which ones you live in.
00:05:09.060 It's important to be able to name your provincial, federal ridings as well as which ward you live in.
00:05:13.840 So, go check it out.
00:05:14.940 You'll live there.
00:05:15.540 Buy a membership.
00:05:16.320 Vote for me, number one.
00:05:17.520 We need more real conservatives in caucus because there's a lot of red Tories trying to sneak into the party,
00:05:22.680 which I believe will only hold back a poly of government from getting the things it needs to get done done.
00:05:28.300 But other than that, I hope everyone has a great day and, you know, great next year, I guess it is.
00:05:33.500 I don't really care about the New Year's.
00:05:34.760 It's one of those things where I never do anything on New Year's, but now I'm just talking about random stuff and delaying the end of the video.
00:05:40.480 So, I'm just going to end it right here.
00:05:41.880 Have a great day, everyone.
