00:00:00.000 In a desperate attempt to win back some of his old popularity, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
00:00:04.940 came out yesterday and announced a new Canadian renter's bill of rights, which in actuality will
00:00:11.320 not really help renters at all in this country. The liberals are only doing this because they
00:00:16.080 don't want to have to deal with their terrible mass immigration policies, get their own spending
00:00:20.500 under control, or lower taxes. So what they're doing is attacking landlords for the problems
00:00:25.840 that they have caused. And this renter's bill of rights is effectively the biggest subsidy
00:00:31.360 ever that you could give to squatters, because it's having the federal government fight landlords
00:00:36.960 on behalf of people who have illegally occupied a home. I'm going to get to Prime Minister Justin
00:00:42.460 Trudeau announcing this, and then I want to talk about why this has been such an epidemic
00:00:46.740 in the United States, and how Justin Trudeau is effectively importing this problem into
00:00:51.560 Canada through this one piece of legislation. Check this out.
00:00:55.600 As part of our upcoming budget, we're going to create a Canadian renter's bill of rights.
00:01:01.960 It would create a nationwide standard for lease agreements, give renters a clear history of
00:01:09.080 apartment pricing so they can bargain fairly, and make sure they have more agency. We're also
00:01:16.260 going to launch a new legal aid fund that will protect tenants against unfairly rising rents,
00:01:23.240 rent evictions, and bad landlords. He goes on to actually announce what I think is not a bad policy
00:01:29.540 that people's credit scores should take into account their ability to pay for their rent in the past.
00:01:34.240 But that is the main thing I'm taking issue with. Having a new legal aid fund for anyone who is a
00:01:40.920 tenant to be able to get free representation from the federal government against their landlord.
00:01:46.980 And first, let's just say this is probably very unconstitutional. Housing and especially
00:01:52.480 rental unit policy is dealt with on the provincial and municipal level, and somehow the federal
00:01:59.220 government thinks they can just stick its foot in the door and then just break into this area of
00:02:03.560 public policy. Regardless, though, what they are basically going to do is what has caused a massive
00:02:09.700 squatter issue in many U.S. states. When you have legal aid funds made available, you're basically
00:02:16.200 saying that if you take somebody else's house, you just illegally occupy it, you come up with a fake
00:02:21.940 lease agreement, some fake utility bills, then you have to be taken to court by a landlord to get you
00:02:28.640 kicked out of the house because they can't just physically drag you out. That would be assault because
00:02:32.400 you're a tenant. And now this legal aid fund is acting like the piggy bank for the person squatting on
00:02:37.980 your house to have the federal government fight you. Or maybe you have to pay them $15,000, $10,000
00:02:43.680 to get you to leave because then they profit off of it and they don't end up losing at the end of the
00:02:49.320 day. I want to play you a quick clip from John Stossel's YouTube channel. I'll put a link in the
00:02:54.000 description below to this video. It's very interesting. But this is what the U.S. is currently
00:02:58.680 experiencing. Just a short taste of it. It's six months you haven't been there. It's my house.
00:03:05.000 It is his house. But the man inside who won't pay rent keeps him from using it. Likewise, the owner
00:03:11.680 of this house left town for three weeks only to return and find. There were cars in the driveway
00:03:17.280 and people inside. When he confronted them, they said. No, we're living here. We have a lease. The
00:03:22.900 squatters didn't have a lease. But today, squatters often claim they do. Go to a house and take it
00:03:29.420 over. Bizarrely, laws favor the squatter. In New York State, you cannot legally lock a squatter out
00:03:36.720 of your home or turn off utilities. And once a squatter is there for 30 days, they are classified
00:03:42.340 as a tenant. Is there anything a homeowner can do about it? Well, Flash Shelton came up with a
00:03:48.140 claim. I'll leave a link in the video so you can watch the rest of that. But basically what happens
00:03:53.760 is that the reason these squatters, people who actually usually have a lot of their own money
00:03:58.080 and could pay rent if they wanted, they end up having the state of New York or whatever state
00:04:03.020 they live in, California, Washington, pay for their legal fees against their landlord. And the
00:04:09.840 liberals are doing this because landlords are an easy target. Everyone has heard at least one horror
00:04:14.320 story of a landlord who wasn't very good. Most landlords are perfectly fine. We should probably
00:04:19.700 just call them property owners because that's what they are. They own the property that somebody
00:04:23.920 is living on and that person is paying them enough money that it's actually worth their while to let
00:04:28.240 them live there. Overall, let's just be clear. There's nothing to do with the housing crisis that is
00:04:34.800 the fault of landlords. It is the fault of the liberals having 500,000 new permanent residents come to
00:04:39.980 the country per year, more temporary foreign workers and students having a high spending that
00:04:44.880 is causing inflation and high taxes, including the carbon tax that is making a lot of these people
00:04:50.300 have to pay massive amounts of heating and energy bills for their buildings and homes that renters
00:04:55.440 stay in. Landlords aren't in the business of just arbitrarily making your rent high. Like, yes,
00:05:00.900 mass immigration, high demand allows them to push the price upwards. But generally speaking,
00:05:05.640 someone is just going to go stay at a home that's more reasonably priced if they can get it. And if
00:05:09.840 you're asking people for $5,000 a month, you're not going to get that $5,000. So with landlords,
00:05:16.400 though, their costs are like any other product. It is based on the market, based on how much it costs
00:05:21.140 them to put up the unit and maintain it. And when you have usually best stories about really bad
00:05:26.280 landlords, like slumlord type situations, it's usually a situation where that person themselves is
00:05:31.760 going bankrupt because of high utility bills, as well as high property taxes. It always comes back to the
00:05:39.000 government being the problem. Whenever the government is not doing anything to actually
00:05:42.680 make the problem better by removing tax and all this stuff, and they're blaming an individual,
00:05:47.000 that's called a scapegoat. We shouldn't trust the scapegoat just because the scapegoat subject
00:05:52.380 seems to be a class of person that is universally generally looked down on for whatever reason.
00:05:59.560 A landlord's like any other business owner. But what the liberals are doing with this legal fund,
00:06:04.240 and what's happening in these states, is that you can be a well-off squatter, sit in someone's home,
00:06:09.280 and it doesn't cost you anything. Because if you were having to pay for it, you probably wouldn't,
00:06:13.260 you'd probably get out of the house pretty fast, because this is maybe going to cost you thousands
00:06:16.860 and thousands of dollars. Or if you do all the paperwork yourself, it's basically a full-time job.
00:06:21.600 So that is what could get an actual legitimate squatter out of a house, unless the legal fund exists.
00:06:26.760 When the legal fund exists, this person could be in your house for four or five months while
00:06:31.480 legal proceedings go on. And they could say, well, I'll get out of your house if you give me
00:06:36.520 $5,000. And they could just go and do it to another house. But they don't have to be stressed
00:06:40.240 out at all. The state's paying for their side of the sort of legal dispute. That is obviously unfair
00:06:47.500 to the landlords who are having to pay out tens of thousands of dollars for legal representation,
00:06:52.180 or they have to go do the representation themselves doing payment work hours and hours a day,
00:06:58.000 just to prove that this person does not actually live here. I do not have a lease agreement with
00:07:01.920 them. And their utility bills are fake. It's so bad in some states, it is illegal to turn off
00:07:06.860 the heating and like AC and like the water, even though you're paying for that, and they haven't
00:07:12.380 given you a dime in rent, you still have to pay for the water. And some people get very vindictive
00:07:17.260 who already stole your home. So it's not enough that they stole your home. They don't like that you
00:07:21.060 want them out of the stolen home. And so they just keep the AC, the heating and everything on all day
00:07:25.460 long in order to make you take on massive costs so that you might pay them out to leave your property
00:07:30.660 and they'll go to abuse someone else like this. Anyways, what the liberals are doing here is super
00:07:37.100 cynical. It is super toxic for the housing market. Everything the liberals have done part of their
00:07:42.360 housing plan so far has not made anything cheaper. It has not made any new units available.
00:07:47.300 If anything, they are incentivizing people to not rent their units because now if someone
00:07:52.420 steals your place, at least you can say this was never on the market. It was never being rented
00:07:57.060 so that we can't have a lease agreement. They're lying. Now you're actually incentivizing landlords
00:08:01.380 to pull properties off the market. That's not going to help the housing crisis. We need more units and
00:08:06.360 fewer people demanding those units by cutting immigration. It's simple as that. Justin Trudeau
00:08:11.280 doesn't want to deal with those issues because it would put the blame squarely on him for the crisis
00:08:15.620 that we're currently facing. Anyways, that should be it for me, guys, today. Again, shameless plug
00:08:21.780 like I always do. I, Wyatt Claypool, am running for the Calgary Signal Hill Conservative Party nomination.

00:08:36.280 And if you want to support the National Telegraph and myself, you can donate to our legal fund.
00:08:40.500 It really helps us out. We have ridiculous lawsuits from this billionaire developer
00:08:44.280 trying to go after us for defamation. Defamation he cannot prove. And he has been deliberately dragging
00:08:49.940 out the court case because he has no way of actually winning it. And he was just expecting us to give
00:08:54.500 him a big fake apology. You know, big sloppy kiss on the cheek. Oh, I'm sorry. We even said anything
00:09:00.020 about you. And to have us move on. He thought he could bully us financially into saying he won,
00:09:05.600 but we're not doing that. So now he's basically been trying to draw this out as long as he can,
00:09:09.480 even though he can easily afford to make this faster. Anyways, so give send go link in the
00:09:14.620 description below. See you guys next time.
