00:00:56.240 that the physical world is trivial, that it doesn't have real value. The Gnostics in the

00:01:03.780 first century, that the apostles were combating, the Gnostics in their false heretical teaching,

00:01:09.800 what they were continuing to say again and again is that, you know, the body is just a prison.

00:01:15.500 It's this fleshly, carnal, unvaluable, trivial prison for the soul. And the soul is really a

00:01:24.400 value. Now, the word Gnostic comes from Gnosis. Gnosis means secret knowledge. So that's another

00:01:29.380 element of Gnosticism is this idea that there's this hidden, secret, elite, spiritual knowledge.

00:01:38.340 It's a mystery. It's a secret. It's something that you can't see. You can't ascertain. And so what

00:01:44.960 do you need? Well, you need to be inducted into the Cool Kids Club. The only way to find out this

00:01:52.900 really meaningful, true, the truest truth that's ever been trued in the whole true world, the only

00:01:57.920 way to figure that out is you have to have one of these elite guys tell you about it. Because it's

00:03:07.700 good right that he's just thinking about floating on a cloud as a disembodied spirit with jesus for

00:03:14.380 eternity. But he's not really engaged in the physical world at all. He's not really caring

00:03:21.840 about practical matters, physical matters, earthly matters at all. Surely we should be heavenly

00:03:27.220 minded. But being heavenly minded in a true biblical sense immediately calls us right back

00:03:33.540 to earth. Just as Connor was saying, true saving faith, trusting the Lord Jesus, longing for

00:03:40.340 for eternal union with him there's there's fullness of joy in his presence there in his

00:03:46.720 right hand there are pleasures forevermore and the christian longs for these things but in longing

00:03:51.360 for christ and a longing for for a spiritual eternal reality with christ longing for heaven

00:04:42.940 invisible sense but in a real sense don't be a pietist piety is a good thing piety is the the

00:04:53.640 puritans often spoke of piety is simply it's the spiritual disciplines it's study of scripture

00:05:05.200 image of Christ. It's the desire for progressive holiness. Progressive, not positional. You are

00:05:17.080 is the righteousness of Christ, which is received not progressively and gradually through obedience,

00:05:22.900 but rather immediately and fully through grace and faith alone. Okay? But the desire for

00:05:30.460 progressive righteousness, progressive holiness, sanctification. This is piety. Piety, good.

00:05:37.420 Pietism, bad. Piety, good. But being a pietist, in the sense that I'm using the word, is a bad

00:05:47.060 thing. It's the person who doesn't really care about the world. And the thing that's so wrong 0.99
