00:00:00.000 Hey guys, real quick, before we get started, I have a small request.
00:00:03.360 If you've been blessed by our content and you like this show,
00:00:06.440 would you take just a brief moment and leave us a five-star review?
00:00:09.760 This is quite possibly the most effective thing that you can do
00:00:12.880 to ensure that this content gets out to as many people as possible.
00:00:17.540 Thanks.
00:00:19.620 Jesus said, man cannot live on bread alone,
00:00:22.360 but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
00:00:25.240 You're listening to Daily Truth.
00:00:27.160 Abraham, as the great patriarch, was setting the standard of what faith looks like and what
00:00:36.200 degree of faith you and I should aspire to. So to Abraham was given a great faith to where he did
00:00:43.220 not waver, where against hope he hoped in God, where he was fully convinced, even though he was
00:00:50.940 surrounded by many details, many characteristics that made it seem as though the promises of God
00:00:56.620 were going to fall flat. And yet Abraham was fully convinced. Abraham did not waver. But what our text
00:01:03.820 is saying today in verse 22, when it says, that is why, and we have to be careful with those first
00:01:09.500 three words, that is why his faith was counted to him as righteousness. Well, if you're coming right
00:01:15.660 off of verses 18 through 21, it's easy to read verse 22 and saying the reason why, the precise
00:01:23.200 reason why Abraham's faith was effective, sufficient for the righteousness of Christ to be
00:01:31.380 accredited to his account is because he didn't waver. See, if you're not careful, if we just back
00:01:37.240 up and we start with verse 18 and read it straight through verse 22, then it's really easy for us to
00:01:43.180 come away with a conclusion that the reason why, the precise reason why Abraham's faith worked
00:01:50.020 in terms of being saving.
00:01:52.620 The fact that Abraham's faith
00:01:54.280 was sufficient for God
00:01:55.640 to impute to him
00:01:56.680 the righteousness of Christ
00:01:58.140 is because his faith was strong.
00:02:00.680 Because he did not waver.
00:02:02.280 Because he was fully convinced.
00:02:03.720 Because against hope, he hoped.
00:02:07.040 And if that's what we walk away
00:02:08.380 with this morning, 0.98
00:02:09.120 then we're all going to walk away damned. 0.99
00:02:11.960 We'll all walk away condemned. 0.99
00:02:14.400 We'll all walk away hopeless
00:02:16.000 and discouraged
00:02:16.960 and filled with fear
00:02:19.640 wrought with anxiety but that is not the message of verse 22 of our text
00:02:25.120 when it says that is why his faith was counted to him as righteousness
00:02:29.880 the apostle is not pulling back just three verses namely to verse 18 19 20 and 21 four verses
00:02:38.340 speaking to the degree of Abraham's faith but he's pulling all the way back to the beginning
00:02:44.120 of his argument, namely verse 16 and 17. Not the degree of Abraham's faith, but the nature
00:02:52.380 of his faith. What kind of faith did he have? Christian faith. And what is the one necessary
00:03:00.340 characteristic, the one determining factor that makes faith Christian faith? It is that you have
00:03:09.720 christ as the object of your faith so what kind of faith saves christian faith
00:03:17.280 and what makes faith christian faith it believes in christ did abraham have great faith yes
00:03:27.180 is great faith more pleasing to god than weak faith yes
00:03:32.900 Yes. Jesus Himself, again and again, He chastises people for having little faith.
00:03:43.200 And He commends people for having more faith, because our faith makes a statement about the
00:03:48.540 character and nature of God Himself. Great faith says that God is not a liar, and that God is not
00:03:56.360 a man that he should be mocked. That God is everything he says he is. Great faith makes a
00:04:03.720 statement about God. It says that God is true. And not only that God is true, but that God is good.
00:04:12.760 Adam and Eve, they doubted God. They doubted God. They didn't trust that God was good. They didn't
00:04:20.340 trust that God was true. They thought that perhaps God in the garden was holding out on them. That
00:04:26.060 He was depriving them of something that would actually be for their good.
00:04:32.880 You see, great faith honors God because it says that God is true, it says that God is good,
00:04:38.140 and it says that God is able. Great faith makes a statement about God. It makes a statement about
00:04:44.280 His omnipotence, His power, that He is able to do that which He promises. But it also makes a
00:04:50.700 statement not only about His power, His omnipotence, but also His character. It says that He is willing
00:04:55.880 to do. That which He promised. That He is good. That He's not deceiving. That He's not cruel.
00:05:02.440 That He's not holding out on us or attempting to trick us. And so, great faith honors God.
00:05:11.880 Weak faith dishonors God. And so, the degree of your faith does, in fact, matter.
00:05:19.000 But to say that it matters in the sight of God, to say that stronger faith honors God more,
00:05:24.160 that weaker faith does not honor God as much. That is not to say that weak faith is not sufficient
00:05:30.160 to save. So we have to understand the distinction there. Faith of a mustard seed, if placed in
00:05:37.500 Christ, if possessing the proper object, is sufficient. And yet, bigger faith, stronger faith,
00:05:47.540 greater faith is more honoring to god so we should aspire to have great faith to not waver in the
00:05:54.300 midst of doubt to hope against hope to be fully convinced thanks so much for listening but real
00:05:59.360 quick before you go do us a small favor take a moment and leave us a five-star review if you
00:06:05.100 enjoyed the show this is undoubtedly the best way that you can help us get this biblically faithful
00:06:10.960 content to as many people as possible thanks so much
