00:00:00.000 All right, listen, guys, I get it.
00:00:01.940 Many of you are unable to financially support this ministry
00:00:04.620 because you're spending your cash and your lives
00:00:06.920 on raising young children
00:00:08.540 in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
00:00:10.560 Praise God for you and that endeavor.
00:00:13.700 However, algorithms are a thing.
00:00:16.220 Shadow banning, sadly, is a thing.
00:00:18.840 And one major way that you can help to expand
00:00:21.600 the reach and effectiveness of this ministry
00:00:24.000 that doesn't cost you a dime
00:00:25.720 is by spending just a few moments
00:00:28.060 leaving us a five-star review. Also, perhaps even more effective than that, you can share
00:00:34.620 our podcast with a friend. We hope you'll take the time to do so. Thank you so much. God bless.
00:00:41.620 Jesus said, man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the
00:00:46.320 mouth of God. You're listening to Daily Truth. I do believe that virtually every text in the Bible
00:00:54.540 can fall into one of those two major categories. This is an indicative, meaning it's the incentive,
00:01:00.320 the motive, the gospel motivation for obeying the commands of God. And this other text is
00:01:06.160 primarily falls underneath the banner of an imperative. It is a command from God. It's law.
00:01:12.260 Now, the disclaimer that I would add to that is that I don't believe that there is a good news,
00:01:18.780 bad news hermeneutic and scripture. I believe there is a law and gospel hermeneutic that's
00:01:24.680 not just rooted in the ears of the hearer. It's not just relative to the one who is receiving
00:01:29.980 God's message, but there actually is a hermeneutic of law and gospel in the text itself, in the Bible,
00:01:37.400 indicatives and imperatives, motives, commands, law or gospel and law. However, all that being
00:01:44.860 said, I wouldn't call it this good news slash bad news hermeneutic because for the one who is in
00:01:50.980 Christ, even the law is good news. It is good news. It's not entirely good news. The law of God
00:01:58.240 is bad news in the sense that no man will be saved by works as done unto the law, which is what the
00:02:04.680 apostle Paul says abundantly clearly in the book of Romans. So if you're looking at the law of God
00:02:11.000 as a way of justifying yourself before a thrice holy God.
00:02:15.360 If you're looking at the law of God
00:02:16.860 as a means of achieving your own salvation
00:02:20.140 by your own works, your own will, your own flesh,
00:02:23.800 then certainly the law of God is nothing but bad news.
00:02:27.520 The law of God condemns every single human being
00:02:30.940 before God's throne.
00:02:32.800 God is holy and each of us have fallen short of his glory.
00:02:37.200 All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
00:02:39.360 However, for the Christian, the one who has been born again and received perfect finished forgiveness on account of Christ Jesus, for the Christian, we are able to look at the law of God and not merely see condemnation, but rather knowing that through faith, not by works so that no man can boast, but by the gift of God, by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, we have received Christ's righteousness.
00:03:06.040 we've been clothed in Christ's righteousness and therefore the law no longer condemns us
00:03:11.560 there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus but the law as Connor just preached
00:03:17.200 a moment ago it guides us so we no longer look to the law in its first use and stand condemned
00:03:25.080 we do see the law as a mirror revealing our sin and our continual need for Christ and his
00:03:30.040 forgiveness. But we don't see in the law of God a reflection of us standing as condemned sinners
00:03:37.360 before a holy God. We know that we have been forgiven. We have been washed. We have been
00:03:42.820 reconciled to God by the blood of Christ's cross. And so for the Christian, we look to the law of
00:03:49.840 God as a reminder of how we've fallen short, but how Christ has bridged the gap. It's a reminder
00:03:56.740 of the beauty and the majesty of the gospel. It's a reminder of God's forgiveness. It's a reminder
00:04:03.320 of love, which covers a multitude of sins. And that's in its first use of the law of God. But
00:04:10.760 in its third use, the law of God is also a lamp unto our feet. It's a light unto our path. It's
00:04:16.720 a compass. It's a guide. It shows us the way in which we should walk. And therefore we can say,
00:04:22.240 as David says, I delight in the law of God. So I don't like the language of, you know, there's good
00:04:29.300 news and bad news. You know, part of the scripture is bad news, part of it's good news. No, for the
00:04:34.600 Christian, it's all good news. The law of God is something that the Christian delights in. It shows
00:04:40.640 us how to live in the world. It shows us how to walk through various trials, what decisions, what
00:04:47.720 wisdom we should apply in various situations. The law of God is good, holy, and righteous. And so
00:04:55.440 we rejoice in the law of God. So law gospel hermeneutic or imperative indicative hermeneutic,
00:05:03.560 not just rooted relative to the hearer, the person, but actually rooted in the text itself.
00:05:09.620 Yes, I would agree with that basic premise that there actually is a law gospel paradigm in the
00:05:16.720 text. But that is not, that should not be truncated into saying there is therefore a bad news, good
00:05:23.540 news hermeneutic in the text. Law gospel in the text, yes. But I would call that good news, good
00:05:30.740 news hermeneutic in the text. They're both good. The law of God is good. It is only truly bad news
00:05:37.120 for the person who does not have faith in Jesus. And that's one of the things that we're going to
00:05:41.640 see in our text today. So the first point is I want us to focus on the gospel. I want us to see
00:05:47.060 the voice of affirmation that we receive for those who are in Christ Jesus through faith. The blood
00:05:52.740 of Christ that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. But later we'll see as I've already began
00:05:57.880 to espouse we'll see that good news is in the ear of the hearer at least to an extent. At least to
00:06:05.300 an extent the person who is in Christ is able to hear certain truths of the scripture as good news 0.99
00:06:12.300 as good news whereas the unbeliever who presently according to scripture stands underneath the just
00:06:20.020 wrath of God stands underneath God's condemnation by their continual rejection of God's son Jesus 0.98
00:06:26.360 Christ and his finished work for the elect that person the unbeliever is going to hear certain
00:06:32.080 things as bad news. They're going to be turned off by certain things, whereas the Christian 0.97
00:06:37.000 is able to look at those same truths and rejoice. The Christian is able to look at those same things 0.93
00:06:42.540 and rejoice. Can I be frank with you for just a second right here at the end? Look, some of you
00:06:48.640 guys, you're financially supporting this ministry, and from the bottom of my heart, I say thank you.
00:06:54.200 I cannot thank you enough. However, some of you, you just, you can't afford it. In fact, some of
00:07:01.680 you shouldn't afford it. Let's be honest. I mean, we're living in Joe Biden's ridiculous economy.
00:07:08.520 Our nation and our totalitarian political elites lost their minds over the last three years 0.91
00:07:16.660 due to COVID. We have written checks that we simply cannot cash. It doesn't matter if people
00:07:23.600 change the definition of a recession. We are living in a recession right now, regardless.
00:07:30.420 Some of you are struggling to afford a carton of eggs at the grocery store.
00:07:35.040 You cannot support financially this ministry at this time, nor should you, but you could
00:07:41.840 still help us tremendously.
00:07:44.120 I am asking you, please, if you're willing to do so, take one minute of your time.
00:07:50.040 Leave us a five-star review on your favorite podcast platform, iTunes, Spotify, whatever
00:07:56.180 that might be.
00:07:57.520 This is the way the system works.
00:07:59.160 We want to be innocent as doves, but shrewd as vipers.
00:08:03.720 We need to be strategic.
00:08:05.580 You leave us a five-star review, and our podcast shows up for more people.
00:08:10.560 And the Word of God and courageous theology applied in practical ways to every realm of
00:08:17.320 life gets out there.
00:08:19.400 Help us get it out there.
00:08:21.100 Thanks for tuning in.
