00:01:13.820 questions of the universe and and he's a christian and he loves the scripture and so he's delving
00:01:19.560 into deep doctrine and theology and all these kinds of things, but at the end of the day,
00:01:23.980 if he doesn't have a job, statistics show us that he's probably eventually going to develop
00:01:30.540 depression. He's probably eventually going to develop anxiety. He's probably eventually going
00:01:36.000 to be frustrated because he was created by God as a man to do meaningful work. And sometimes
00:01:45.800 part of the problem with anxiety and depression and these kinds of things, particularly as they
00:01:50.440 pertain to men, is that men simply just have too much time on their hands. They're not busy
00:01:57.480 enough. They should be busier. I like what Matt Chandler said in one of his sermon clips a few
00:02:04.000 years ago. He said that a Christian man with a wife and with children, he wakes up before his
00:02:09.820 children do. He beats them to waking up and he studies the scripture. He spends time in prayer. 0.81
00:02:15.800 Then he helps with breakfast and getting the children ready.
00:02:18.520 Then he gets in the car, he goes to his job, he works long hours, he comes back home,
00:02:23.100 he helps put away the dishes, all those kinds of things.

00:02:28.980 He then spends time with his wife, checking on her heart, washing her in the Word,
00:02:33.460 praying with her, and then when it's all said and done, he goes to bed exhausted.

00:02:44.520 such as sexual immorality is because men just aren't exhausted enough. Men just have too much
00:02:51.100 energy. We should be more tired. We should be exhausted. Being a man means a life of exhaustion.
00:03:00.900 Get excited. That's, you know, that's, it means working hard. And it means taking on more and
00:03:09.540 more and more responsibility men especially young men in many ways they're like trucks big

00:03:26.500 truck you know downtown but but ultimately what the truck like that the reason why it's given so
00:03:31.980 much torque and so much power is so that so that two to four tons of weight could be put down in
00:03:38.500 the bed and the truck can get to work. One of the things that helps a young man not waver but drive
00:03:44.480 straight is to load him down with a lot of weight, a lot of responsibility, a lot of work.
00:03:52.880 That's something that is actually life-giving. I've realized that so much in my idolatry in the
00:03:59.100 past, and so being sinfully desirous of comfort, I thought that it would save me. I thought that
00:04:08.840 comfort and having, you know, large blocks of free time in my schedule and all these kinds of things
00:04:14.940 that it would provide for me a sense of security and peace and joy. But I can tell you from
00:04:21.320 experience that now I have far less free time, and yet I feel far happier. I feel much more
00:04:30.400 fulfilled, and I also just feel more peace. Turns out it actually was not really good for me to have
00:04:38.400 massive blocks of free time in my schedule. What was good for me as a man was to take a wife, 0.89
00:04:45.240 to have children, for our church to grow,
00:04:49.140 to begin to take more pastoral and shepherding meetings,
00:04:52.420 to preach more, to teach more, to work more,
00:04:55.360 and to go to bed really tired.
00:04:58.800 Staying up at night, being anxious and tossing and turning,
00:05:03.500 there could be perhaps something going on there.
00:05:07.340 Maybe something that you need some medical help with.
00:05:11.100 In most cases, you probably just need to repent of sin.
