00:00:00.000 Hey guys, real quick, before we get started, I have a small request.
00:00:03.360 If you've been blessed by our content and you like this show,
00:00:06.420 would you take just a brief moment and leave us a five-star review?
00:00:09.740 This is quite possibly the most effective thing that you can do
00:00:12.860 to ensure that this content gets out to as many people as possible. Thanks.
00:00:19.600 Jesus said, man cannot live on bread alone,
00:00:22.340 but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
00:00:25.340 You're listening to Daily Truth.
00:00:30.000 So the key to becoming disciplined is motivation, any kind of discipline, and discipline for godliness is no different.
00:00:36.320 According to verse 8 of our text, one of the motivations for training ourselves for godliness is the fact,
00:00:41.920 the undeniable, unmovable fact, that godliness holds immense value not only for this life but also the life to come.
00:00:49.320 This life is not all there is, brothers and sisters.
00:00:52.380 We must have set in our minds eternity.
00:00:55.200 the Puritan preacher Richard Baxter was famous for saying I preach as though I might never preach
00:01:00.800 again and as a dying man to dying men the Bible is clear that as members of the fallen human race
00:01:08.880 that is the sinful human race our lives are short it has been appointed to each man to die and then 0.90
00:01:15.680 the judgment the scripture says therefore it is imperative that we each prepare for the life to
00:01:22.600 come and in addition to this so one of the motivations is that this life is not all there
00:01:27.280 is as first corinthians chapter 15 says if this life if christ wasn't raised from the dead and
00:01:32.260 that we weren't promised to be raised from the dead also if this life was in fact all there is
00:01:36.860 then eat and drink and be merry for tomorrow we die yolo is a great a great guide for life
00:01:45.220 if this life is all there is but it's not so one of the motivations is in fact that there is a life
00:01:52.340 to come and in that life to come we will be confronted by the living God that is the holy
00:01:57.020 God it has been appointed for each man a day to die and then the judgment so one of the things
00:02:02.540 that motivates us is a fear of God knowing that this life is not all that we have been given we
00:02:08.380 must prepare for the life to come but also and here's the comfort the consolation brothers and
00:02:14.740 sisters in addition to this according to verse 10 of our text we toil and strive some texts say
00:02:20.740 suffer reproach, right? We work hard and we're even willing to be persecuted because we have our hope
00:02:27.300 set on the living God who is the savior of all people, especially those who believe. Our discipline,
00:02:35.480 our training for godliness, our toiling and striving is worth the cost. It's hard work,
00:02:41.240 it's costly work, but it's worth it because the living God is also a saving God. Our God is
00:02:49.200 infinitely holy and just but he is also exceedingly merciful and kind look at the text verse 10
00:02:55.280 for to this end right for what for what point what's the point what's the purpose to this
00:03:02.880 purpose we work hard we toil and strive why because we have hope and there's an object
00:03:11.520 brothers and sisters of our hope our hope is not just this this intangible hope it is a hope that
00:03:16.580 It is set on something objective.
00:03:18.200 It is set on the living God.
00:03:20.780 Let me pause there for a moment.
00:03:22.600 Why on earth should fallen men set their hope on the living God?
00:03:30.660 You and I are dead men walking.
00:03:34.740 God promised the day that you eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, you shall surely die.
00:03:42.880 Each of us have fallen short of the glory of God.
00:03:45.040 Each of us have rebelled against the...
00:03:46.520 Each of us are dead men. Why should dead men, men who are dead, set their hope on the God who is living?
00:03:54.140 Because the living God, you've got to understand this.
00:03:56.840 Think of the Hebrews, the book Hebrews in the Bible, New Testament says,
00:04:02.060 it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
00:04:08.600 Why set our hope on the living God?
00:04:12.400 the scripture says elsewhere it's a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living god
00:04:17.080 because the living god the holy god the judge of the living and the dead he is also the saving god
00:04:24.980 he is the savior and this is how saving he is this is the point this this isn't paul's chance
00:04:32.940 to you know i don't i don't think paul's saying i'm going to slip in a little bit of reformed
00:04:35.940 theology and calvinism right here this is his point of saying savior of all people but especially
00:04:40.220 those who believe i am convinced this is it why does he say this we know here's the last paragraph
00:04:47.620 right before the conclusion we know that paul clearly taught that jesus would one day return
00:04:51.840 to receive his people and to deliver retribution and judgment to those who have not obeyed the
00:04:56.480 gospel that's paul also paul the same paul who wrote this text verse 10 first timothy chapter
00:05:02.140 four verse 10 he also wrote second thessalonians chapter one verses eight through nine that says
00:05:06.840 Jesus will return and eternally judge those who have not
00:05:10.620 obeyed his gospel. So therefore it is abundantly clear
00:05:14.380 from scripture that not everyone will be saved. Universalism is a heresy.
00:05:18.940 It is wrong. So then what is Paul saying? That God is
00:05:22.680 the Savior of all people. Well John Calvin,
00:05:26.440 a 16th century theologian, he suggested that Paul is using the word Savior
00:05:30.580 in two senses. In a general sense, and when I say general
00:05:34.640 sense you guys got to hear that because on general sense all right let's catch this because if you
00:05:39.940 don't hear this then you're going to think that john calvin and joel webin are heretics in a
00:05:43.900 general sense god is the savior of the whole world in regard to the whole world but in a special sense
00:05:50.160 with regard to only believers now the general sense is this that god gives protection and
00:05:55.880 provision under the banner of his common grace even to the wicked who refuse his call to salvation
00:06:01.200 However, in a special sense, God is the savior of believers since he not only provides them with temporal blessings, but also eternal deliverance from his judgment and never ending joy.
00:06:13.460 Now, here's the point. There are heinous, wicked people. There are murderers and abusers who, as I speak and as you listen, are enjoying wonderful meals, who are watching sunrises, breathing fresh air.
00:06:39.460 there are wicked people who are experiencing regularly for 70 80 90 years pleasure see god
00:06:49.580 in a general sense not eternal but in a general sense in his long suffering in his slowness to
00:06:55.780 anger and his kindness and tolerance and forbearance god is saving that is he is sustaining
00:07:01.860 he is sparing them and if God saves even those who refuse the most wicked thing that any person
00:07:10.300 could do who refuse to obey his gospel second Thessalonians if God saves for a time that is
00:07:19.800 he he causes it to rain on both the wicked and the righteous in his common grace he gives good
00:07:25.040 temporal blessings, pleasure, life, joy, even to the wicked who have disobeyed his gospel for 70,
00:07:32.660 80, 90 years, then certainly we can set our hope on the living God. Because if he even saves for
00:07:40.040 a time the wicked, he will save to the uttermost the righteous. Especially, that is eternally,
00:07:47.260 that is forever those who believe. All right, all right, all right. Stop twisting my arm. I know
00:07:53.280 you want to hear the inside scoop. Here it is, the glorious vision of Right Response Ministries
00:07:58.680 for the first half of next year, 2023. We have not one, not two, but three massive endeavors
00:08:05.580 that we will accomplish by the grace of God. The first you already know about. It's our Theonomy
00:08:11.520 and Post-Millennialism Conference. This is selling out incredibly fast. By the time this commercial
00:08:17.060 airs, you may not even be able to get a ticket. I really don't know. So don't waste another moment.
00:08:22.500 go to rightresponseconference.com, rightresponseconference.com to join us for the Theonomy and Post-Millennialism
00:08:30.400 Conference next year. Now, this is where you come in. We need your help. Our next two endeavors
00:08:36.320 are number one, a documentary-style film, and number two, a brand new studio. Both of these
00:08:43.560 things are seeking to accomplish one primary goal, which is excellent, high-quality, glorious
00:08:50.820 Christian media. We are tired of, as Christians, doing things poorly. We've done our best with
00:08:58.860 what we have, but by God's grace, we want to do even better. This is not going to be just another
00:09:04.660 video. This is not going to be a sermon or an interview or a podcast, but we're going to make
00:09:10.020 a documentary-style film, and we're going to be hiring Nathan Anderson, the director of On Earth
00:09:15.740 as it is in heaven, a very, very successful post-millennialism documentary that's on Amazon
00:09:21.760 and YouTube, came out a couple years ago. He's going to be flying in from Chile to help us direct
00:09:27.520 this film. And our documentary is going to be on post-millennialism and theonomy, why it's
00:09:34.340 biblically valid, why it's absolutely necessary, and why, by the grace of God, theonomy and
00:09:40.100 post-millennialism are currently on the rise. So we're going to make this film and we need
00:09:45.720 your support. And not just this film, but we're going to make all of our videos and podcasting
00:09:51.780 and everything we do here at Right Response Ministries better. We want to achieve the
00:09:57.580 highest level of quality and Christian excellence that we possibly can. That's where the new studio
00:10:03.600 comes in. This new film, our date that we're shooting for is that it would be complete
00:10:08.640 and publicly available in May or June of 2023 next year.
00:10:14.240 The studio, our goal is that it would be completely done
00:10:17.500 in its construction and the equipment and the setup
00:10:19.940 and the stage and everything by January, February of 2023 next year.
00:10:27.000 We need your prayers.
00:10:28.400 We need your encouragement.
00:10:29.920 And for those of you who are willing to do so,
00:10:32.220 we need your generous support.
00:10:34.320 You can give towards these endeavors
00:10:36.040 by going to Right Response Ministries
00:10:38.480 rightresponseministries.com forward slash donate. Again, that's rightresponseministries.com

00:10:50.060 Thanks so much for listening. But real quick, before you go, do us a small favor, take a moment,
00:10:55.380 and leave us a five-star review if you enjoyed the show. This is undoubtedly the best way that
00:11:01.020 you can help us get this biblically faithful content to as many people as possible. Thanks so much.
