00:00:34.960 But if we only have those two key elements

00:00:38.020 without the third that I'll mention here in just a moment,

00:00:40.560 that only really serves to help us graduate

00:00:43.100 to the level of faith that is, biblically speaking, demonic.

00:00:48.620 See, the book of James in the New Testament

00:00:50.240 says that even the demons believe.

00:00:52.760 Demons have faith.

00:00:54.620 What do they believe?

00:00:55.480 If we look at the context, they believe that God is one.

00:00:59.380 James is saying to his audience that he's writing to,

00:01:01.660 you believe God is one?

00:01:02.960 Good.

00:01:03.900 But even the demons believe that.

00:01:05.740 And the result of their belief is that they shudder.

00:01:08.580 They shrink back in fear.

00:01:11.160 They tremble.

00:01:12.280 Now, look, you don't tremble at something that's not true.

00:01:15.120 So the demons, they don't just have knowledge of the fact that God is three eternal persons

00:01:19.220 and yet one in essence and being.

00:01:21.000 What's being said by James is ultimately this.

00:01:23.000 The demons have a better working Trinitarian doctrine

00:01:25.880 than the best living scholars on earth today.

00:01:28.760 demons have better doctrine and theology than you do and me so they know that god is three

00:01:33.940 eternal persons and that he is one and they don't just know this because just knowing something if

00:01:44.560 know it and they have given not eagerly not joyfully not willingly but they have given

00:01:51.640 nonetheless because they must their assent they agree with what they know see the third and final

00:01:57.960 component of true saving faith christian faith is that we know that we grant assent and that lastly

00:02:05.840 we we give our implicit trust and with that there is personal trust as a way of illustration if

00:02:16.720 there was a chair on the stage before me i could look at the chair and i could say i know that this

00:02:21.000 is a chair i'm not an expert in chairs but i've seen enough chairs in my life and the concept of

00:02:26.180 a chair is simple enough to where I can look at this chair and I know that this is a chair. I see

00:02:31.760 its chairness before me. I recognize its chairness. And not only do I know it's a chair, but I believe

00:02:37.020 it's a true chair. I have given my assent. I agree that this is not just a chair, but it is a chair

00:02:43.080 chair. It is a true chair, but I am not biblically having faith in the chair until I ultimately cast

00:02:50.820 my weight upon it, trusting that it will hold me up, that it is able, that it is sufficient to do

00:02:58.080 what it was created and designed to do. In the same way, you are not truly trusting Jesus. You

00:03:04.320 do not have biblical faith in Jesus until you know Jesus from the scripture. You agree with

00:03:09.260 what the scripture says about Jesus. And lastly, you cast the full weight, not of your behind,

00:03:14.660 but of your soul on Jesus, believing that he is able and willing to sustain you before God on that

00:03:24.740 final day, to wash you pure as snow by the sprinkling of his blood, to clothe you in his

00:03:31.860 righteousness, to present you pure and spotless and without blemish before God, not by works which

00:03:38.840 you have performed, but by grace, that is the free gift of God that is laid hold of through

00:03:44.700 the instrument of faith, which is knowledge, assent, and implicit trust in God, and that the
