00:01:02.000 Every single human being, whether they are a Christian or not, is made in the image of God.

00:01:06.600 But the image of God, the Imago Dei, has been tarnished.

00:01:10.760 We believe in total depravity, not utter depravity.

00:01:15.200 We do not believe that people are doing outwardly as much evil as they possibly could do at all times.

00:01:22.600 That's not the view of Christians, not utter depravity,

00:01:26.800 but we do believe in total depravity.

00:01:29.400 Total depravity, in distinction from utter depravity,

00:01:32.680 is that people are not, by God's common grace,

00:01:36.320 that even unbelievers, they're being restrained by God's common grace,

00:01:40.380 by natural law, by the Imago Dei being created in His image,

00:01:44.960 by the conscience, the law of God being written on their hearts,

00:01:47.760 even for the unbeliever.

00:01:48.820 in all these ways people are not utterly depraved even the unbeliever is being restrained in terms

00:01:55.640 of their outward manifestations of sin the unbeliever is being restrained from outwardly

00:02:02.900 behaving consistently with their god-rebelling worldview and so we do not believe in utter

00:02:10.080 depravity but total depravity what we're insisting in this doctrine which is painfully biblical

00:02:16.220 is simply that every facet, every element of mankind has been affected by the fall.

00:02:24.340 So total depravity is not saying that we are utterly depraved, doing outwardly as much evil

00:02:29.900 as possible, but totally depraved, meaning there is not one element of humanity that has not been
