00:00:00.000 All right, listen, guys, I get it.
00:00:01.900 Many of you are unable to financially support this ministry because you're spending your
00:00:05.900 cash and your lives on raising young children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
00:00:10.740 Praise God for you and that endeavor.
00:00:13.860 However, algorithms are a thing.
00:00:16.380 Shadow banning, sadly, is a thing.
00:00:19.000 And one major way that you can help to expand the reach and effectiveness of this ministry
00:00:24.160 that doesn't cost you a dime is by spending just a few moments leaving us a five-star
00:00:29.980 review. Also, perhaps even more effective than that, you can share our podcast with a friend.
00:00:36.560 We hope you'll take the time to do so. Thank you so much. God bless.
00:00:42.360 Jesus said, man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of
00:00:47.440 God. You're listening to Daily Truth. I think that there's been a massive mistake
00:00:56.360 when it comes to understanding the New Testament church's role in the world today.
00:01:04.100 Often, one of the chief texts that will be pointed to by pastors, theologians, and evangelicals
00:01:13.780 is Jeremiah. I believe it's chapter 27. And it's not so much the portion of the text that talks
00:01:23.220 about God has a plan for us that he knew us in our mother's womb that is true but the text goes
00:01:31.680 on and talks about seeking the welfare of the city for if the city prospers you too will prosper
00:01:40.360 but we have to be aware as we seek to exegete scripture that is to rightly interpret the
00:01:47.460 meaning of scripture, and just as much, if not even more so, as we seek to rightly apply the
00:01:55.060 scripture. Not just interpreting its meaning, but applying, as Connor said, seeking to actually put
00:02:01.920 the meaning of scripture into practice. Not mere hearers of the word only, but those who hear the
00:02:08.840 word rightly understand its sense its meaning meditate upon the meaning and implications of
00:02:18.540 the word day and night and then seek to actually obey seek to actually live out the meaning of a
00:02:27.660 text as we seek to be those who rightly interpret scripture hear it properly and those who rightly
00:02:34.820 apply scripture obey it properly we must have the proper context of scripture and when we find in
00:02:44.600 jeremiah that israel had been called to seek the welfare of the city to give their sons and
00:02:53.260 daughters in marriage to plant vineyards to build houses to seek the welfare of the city for if the
00:03:00.140 city prospers you too will prosper the context for that commandment is exile i'll say that again
00:03:08.460 the context for that commandment is exile it is true that israel old covenant old testament
00:03:18.960 israel according to the flesh is a type of the new testament church it is a type that is a symbol
00:03:28.120 it can often represent the new testament church the new testament church often does well to take
00:03:35.520 its cues from old testament israel but we have to be aware as we're looking at old testament old
00:03:44.360 covenant israel and the commandments given to them by god we have to be aware of the context
00:03:50.460 in jeremiah the context is that israel had been unfaithful and because of their unbelief
00:03:58.120 their hardness of heart their stubbornness and rebellion towards god and his kingship because
00:04:06.200 of all these things their reluctance and slowness to be faithful and obedience and all his commands
00:04:13.700 for these reasons God handed them over to their enemies they were overpowered they were subdued
00:04:22.480 they were captured and they were taken into exile so Jeremiah 27 seek the welfare of the city
00:04:30.600 for if the city prospers you too will prosper is a good command for the New Testament church
00:04:38.180 even today, when the church is living in exile, when the church, when Christendom has fallen,
00:04:48.340 to speak plainly, when Christendom has fallen, or when the gospel in this gospel age,
00:04:56.420 this New Testament church age, when the gospel goes forth to another nation that has not
00:05:02.680 previously been engulfed and submerged in christian thought in christian principles
00:05:10.260 when the gospel goes forward to a pagan nation or goes forward to a nation that is dominated by a
00:05:16.960 christian heresy such as judaism or islam when the gospel goes forward into new places
00:05:24.560 that are currently underneath the power of a false religion and that the culture and society 0.94
00:05:32.780 and laws and customs have been dictated and distinctly shaped by false doctrine and false
00:05:41.820 worship of false gods. When Christians are in these places, they do well, I believe, 1.00
00:05:49.320 to look at jeremiah 27 and say here are some some cues for us of how to live faithfully
00:05:57.100 as the people of god in captivity in exile but even then there is still contextually
00:06:07.380 a massive distinction the distinction is this for israel in exile in babylon for 70 years
00:06:16.960 which was prophesied by the prophet isaiah because of israel's faithlessness their unbelief their
00:06:24.620 rebellion in this context the the goal the solution the hope that israel was looking to
00:06:32.080 is that eventually they would be delivered and set free and that they would be permitted
00:06:37.700 released to go back to their land that god had promised to them and rebuild that is a distinction
00:06:47.300 a massive distinction between old covenant israel and the new testament church our promise brothers
00:06:55.440 and sisters is not that we are living in exile and that we need to do our best to get along
00:07:02.040 with our captors but that eventually we will be set free to leave this land of babylon to go
00:07:09.540 somewhere else no the new testament church in her marching orders is not that we will one day be
00:07:18.600 freed from this oppressive land our order is that we will conquer this land it's not that we are in
00:07:29.260 Babylon, but that God will mercifully take us out of Babylon to go somewhere else. No, the
00:07:36.440 commandment is that by God's grace, that we will conquer Babylon, that Babylon will be Christianized. 0.96
00:07:44.100 Can I be frank with you for just a second right here at the end? Look, some of you guys, you're
00:07:49.120 financially supporting this ministry. And from the bottom of my heart, I say, thank you. I cannot
00:07:54.660 thank you enough. However, some of you, you just, you can't afford it. In fact, some of you, you
00:08:01.720 shouldn't afford it. Let's be honest. I mean, we're living in Joe Biden's ridiculous economy.
00:08:08.540 Our nation and our totalitarian political elites lost their minds over the last three years due 0.91
00:08:17.000 to COVID. We have written checks that we simply cannot cash. It doesn't matter if people change
00:08:23.820 the definition of a recession. We are living in a recession right now regardless. Some of you are
00:08:31.000 struggling to afford a carton of eggs at the grocery store. You cannot support financially
00:08:37.280 this ministry at this time, nor should you, but you could still help us tremendously. I am asking
00:08:44.480 you, please, if you're willing to do so, take one minute of your time. Leave us a five-star review
00:08:51.480 on your favorite podcast platform, iTunes, Spotify, whatever that might be, this is the
00:08:57.920 way the system works. We want to be innocent as doves, but shrewd as vipers. We need to be
00:09:04.280 strategic. You leave us a five-star review, and our podcast shows up for more people. And the
00:09:10.580 Word of God and courageous theology applied in practical ways to every realm of life gets out
00:09:18.380 there. Help us get it out there. Thanks for tuning in.
