00:00:00.000 Hey guys, real quick, before we get started, I have a small request.
00:00:03.360 If you've been blessed by our content and you like this show,
00:00:06.420 would you take just a brief moment and leave us a five-star review?
00:00:09.760 This is quite possibly the most effective thing that you can do
00:00:12.860 to ensure that this content gets out to as many people as possible. Thanks.
00:00:20.860 So, okay, so let me start with the second one because that one's easier. So Nate Werner,
00:00:25.020 I agree that the day of the Sabbath is important and it's the first day of the week,
00:00:29.620 but if you are forced for whatever reason to work on Sunday, can you take a Sabbath rest on a
00:00:35.620 different day? No. The answer is no. You can rest on a different day. You can rest on a Tuesday.
00:00:41.060 You can rest on a Wednesday. You can't take a Sabbath rest on a day that is not the Sabbath.
00:00:46.880 So the Sabbath really is, it's not just, and a lot of guys do that within the Christian realm.
00:00:51.660 A lot of guys will say that like everybody needs a Sabbath and my Sabbath is, you know, Tuesday
00:00:56.420 and my Sabbath is Thursday. And I've heard a lot of pastors, evangelical pastors say,
00:01:02.120 well, my Sabbath is Monday because I work on Sunday. No, no, your Sabbath is Sunday.
00:01:07.540 I am a pastor who works hard on the Lord's day. And that is also my Sabbath. Because here's the
00:01:15.340 deal. It's not, I should have said this earlier, but it's not just the Sabbath is for worship and
00:01:20.420 rest. The Sabbath is for worship, which for the Christian is where the truest sense of rest is
00:01:28.480 found. We rest in our worship. Rest, believe it or not, we do so many things because we're tired
00:01:35.460 and we think that it'll be restful and it's not. It's not, right? We lay down at night when we
00:01:41.260 should go to bed at 1030 and we end up going to bed at midnight because we spend an hour and a
00:01:46.140 half scrolling on our phones, thinking that we're resting, but it's not restful. It's draining you,
00:01:51.960 right? Watching an entire Netflix season, binging is not restful. It's not restful.
00:02:00.920 You think it is, but it doesn't rejuvenate your soul. Worship of the triune God,
00:02:07.180 gathering together with the saints, receiving the Lord's Supper, hearing Christ preached in the
00:02:12.360 word. This is, this is restful. And so that, that is true rest. And that is a rest that is commanded
00:02:19.740 to take place on the Sabbath. So with your work first, I would, I would just look at the nature
00:02:24.140 of your work. So if you're a nurse or if you're a police officer, or if you are involved in driving
00:02:29.880 an ambulance, you know, or these, there are multiple different vocations that are works of
00:02:35.500 mercy or works of necessity, still as an organized, official, formal vocation, but are still
00:02:41.940 under the category of works of necessity or mercy. If that is your job, then I would say that you
00:02:47.980 have an exception. You do. And I would say you still should seek as a Christian to be able to
00:02:53.440 be present in church as much as you can, as much as you can influence your schedule. But no, that
00:02:58.040 would not be breaking the Sabbath. Now, if you have some other kind of job where it's not a
00:03:04.580 police officer. It's not a nurse. It's not a doctor. It's not a work of mercy or necessity.
00:03:09.540 It's at the grocery store. You work at H-E-B, right? I'm in Texas. H-E-B, that is the grocery
00:03:16.080 store. You might say, well, that's a work of necessity. People need food. No, people need
00:03:20.560 food seven days a week. They do not need to buy food seven days a week. Again, remember if we had
00:03:25.380 a Christian society, like the cell phone tower, I think you could operate it six days a week and 1.00
00:03:29.860 it would run still on the 7th? Certainly, right? I'm not an expert with phone technology, but I'm 0.99
00:03:36.100 pretty, I've got some level of expertise with HEB. I'm pretty sure that you could go grocery
00:03:42.580 shopping on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday and buy enough groceries to
00:03:47.500 where you could eat on Sunday, right? So if that's your job, if you're working at HEB, that would not
00:03:52.640 be a work of necessity or a work of mercy. So what do you do? Well, first you need to, you don't quit
00:03:58.360 your job to keep the Sabbath, but then break other aspects of God's law by not providing for
00:04:05.840 your family. So you do it wisely. Don't be that young 22-year-old overly idealistic, 0.78
00:04:13.420 non-serious Sabbatarian man. Don't be that guy. That guy's dumb. Don't be like him.
00:04:19.700 So be wise. Say, Lord, I want to obey you. Would you provide for me? Give me favor with my managers
00:04:25.820 to change my schedule, or would you provide for me another job that allows me to remember the
00:04:32.620 Sabbath and keep it holy? But yeah, if you have a job that forces you to work on the Lord's day,
00:04:38.340 and it is not a job that falls under the banner of a work of necessity or a work of mercy,
00:04:43.300 then you should look at changing your schedule and praying that the Lord would give you favor
00:04:48.180 with your employer, or if that's not a possibility, looking at a different job
00:04:53.440 to keep the Sabbath. It matters. Thanks so much for listening. But real quick, before you go, 0.68
00:05:00.360 do us a small favor, take a moment, and leave us a five-star review if you enjoyed the show.
00:05:05.620 This is undoubtedly the best way that you can help us get this biblically faithful content
00:05:10.860 to as many people as possible. Thanks so much.
