The Saad Truth with Dr. Saad - President Trump's Remarks Following Rob Reiner's Murder (The Saad Truth with Dr. Saad_940)

00:00:00.000 Hi everybody, this is Gad Saad. I wanted to spend a couple of minutes discussing the murder of Rob Reiner and President Trump's subsequent post about it to make an important general point.

00:00:19.440 First, let me just mention, going down memory lane, when I first moved from Lebanon to Canada, one of the first shows that I watched was on The Family with Archie Bunker, the famous character who just would never exist in today's politically correct world, and his son-in-law, Meathead, who was played by Rob Reiner.

00:00:45.940 And so, I hold very dear and nostalgic memories of that time. And of course, I've watched many movies by Rob Reiner that I thought were really heartwarming and lovely, Sleepless in Seattle and so on.

00:00:59.480 And so, from that perspective, I very much appreciated Rob Reiner. On the other hand, of course, he was someone who was very partisan in his politics, specifically in terms of his animus and hatred towards Donald Trump.

00:01:15.920 I've personally, you know, retorted to tweets that Rob Reiner had posted, and so I'm hardly one who is a fan of his, you know, political tribalism, and certainly unhinged behavior when it comes to Trump.

00:01:33.740 That said, as you probably have heard, he allegedly, both he and his wife were murdered by their son, and so he's passed away.

00:01:46.460 So, this is what President Trump posted.

00:01:49.540 A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away.

00:02:01.760 Together with his wife, Michelle, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as Trump derangement syndrome, sometimes referred to as TDS.

00:02:16.320 He was known to have driven people crazy by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights, as the Trump administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the golden age of America upon us, perhaps, like never before, may Rob and Michelle rest in peace.

00:02:37.100 To which I responded, I fully understand that Mr. Reiner was unhinged in his delusional hatred of POTUS, but I think that it might have been best to simply say, rest in peace, or nothing at all.

00:02:50.240 And believe me, I am all for the honey badger mindset.

00:02:53.960 Look, the central premise of my forthcoming book, Suicidal Empathy, Dying to be Kind, I've only recently released the subtitle to the public.

00:03:07.900 The book cover has been chosen.

00:03:10.460 It's very, very excited.

00:03:12.220 The point of Suicidal Empathy is that empathy is a wonderful trait to possess.

00:03:18.860 It's part of our innate humanity.

00:03:24.720 It is exactly what you would expect in terms of having a virtue for a social species, right?

00:03:30.000 I need to put myself in your mind and vice versa in order for us to have a meaningful conversation.

00:03:35.940 That's called theory of mind.

00:03:37.180 The problem, of course, arises, just like many other problems in life, just like Aristotle explained to us several thousand years ago with, you know, his everything in moderation dictum, is that too little empathy is really bad.

00:03:51.700 You're a psychopath, and too much empathy targeting the wrong people at the wrong time and the wrong amounts results in my suicidal empathy.

00:04:02.380 So in this case, President Trump, while he has every right to be deeply angered by the astounding collusion that was thrown at him in every possible way. 0.98

00:04:18.600 I don't think it would be hyperbolic to say that no politician has ever faced the kind of unjust and unhinged, you know, collusions of trying to bring him down all the way up to assassinating him than President Trump has.

00:04:35.460 But all good things in the right amount, at the right place, in the right occasion.

00:04:41.060 Rob Reiner was just killed by his, allegedly by his son.

00:04:46.620 He's dead.

00:04:47.180 Imagine how much more magnanimous and presidential Donald Trump would look if he said, I just want to take a minute to recognize that a great artist, American artist, has passed away.

00:05:04.660 And notwithstanding any political differences that we, you know, we had with each other, may he rest in peace, right?

00:05:14.200 But it wouldn't take away from the fact that everybody knows that President Trump is deeply frustrated by how unfairly people have treated him.

00:05:24.800 But he would have used this opportunity to demonstrate that notwithstanding how unbelievably unfair Rob Reiner was to him, he will rise above it.

00:05:33.640 So again, people, empathy is good, too little empathy is not good, too much empathy is not good.

00:05:41.480 Reasonable perfectionism, if you're not at all perfectionist, your work suffers.

00:05:46.420 If you are maladaptively perfectionist the way that I am, you end up obsessing over, you know, whether a comma was in the right place or not,

00:05:54.540 and rereading your book for the 17,000th time to make sure that there isn't a typo.

00:05:58.700 So as I explained in my previous book on happiness, I have a whole chapter on this inverted you, too little is not good, too much is no good.

00:06:08.980 So many human phenomena at the cellular level, individual level, collective level, economic level, societal level, are all adhering to that inverted you.

00:06:22.560 Too little, not good.

00:06:23.620 Too much, not good.

00:06:24.640 Find the sweet spot.

00:06:25.520 And it brings me no pleasure to say that in this case, I don't think that President Trump found the sweet spot.

00:06:34.260 Take care, everybody.
