00:28:19.460 decision to compensate unvaccinated employees placed on unpaid leave or terminated during the
00:28:25.040 pandemic response. The shipping company implemented its safer workplaces policy September 2021
00:28:33.280 forcing employees who chose not to get the newly developed vaccine to leave work without pay or
00:28:39.860 have their contracts suspended. Purolator's actions were met with hundreds of grievances
00:28:45.040 filed with the Teamsters arguing the company's vaccination mandate was not reasonable. A labor
00:28:51.260 arbitrator decided in favor of the employees in December of 2023 and ordered Purolator to
00:28:55.800 compensate them with lost wages and benefits. That decision was upheld in a decision released
00:29:01.060 yesterday by the B.C. Supreme Court. I find there was no procedural unfairness to Purolator,
00:29:06.020 read Justice Brantford Smith's ruling. Purolator was aware of Local 31's position as early as
00:29:11.340 December 16th of 2022, as of January 12th, 2023, when the parties first raised the issue before
00:29:17.300 the arbitrator expert witnesses were giving evidence and purulator had not called any
00:29:22.060 witnesses other than its expert dr rebeck according to labor arbitrator nicholas glass
