00:00:00.000 We'll be right back.
00:00:30.000 Thank you.
00:01:00.000 guitar solo
00:01:30.000 hey good morning everybody i hope you didn't expect me to miss this
00:01:54.180 Apparently, Justin Trudeau will be stepping down as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and, of course, the Prime Minister.
00:02:03.840 Here's the scene from Ottawa right now where all of the left-wing corporate media reporters are gathered.
00:02:09.640 I haven't got myself a coffee yet, so I'm going to leave this up on the screen for you.
00:02:14.840 Go get a coffee, come back, have a conversation.
00:02:18.740 If you want to leave comments and questions, feel free to go ahead.
00:02:22.020 We're doing this on all of the usual.
00:02:24.800 Well, look at that.
00:02:25.460 The paper just fell right off the podium.
00:02:27.400 Oh, my God.
00:02:29.520 If you have any questions or comments.
00:02:31.600 And, oh, here he is.
00:02:33.160 Good timing.
00:02:34.460 All right.
00:02:34.960 Here is a fearless leader himself.
00:02:38.980 So I thought it might be fun for us to do this again.
00:02:43.480 Every morning I've woken up as prime minister.
00:02:47.320 I've been inspired by the resilience, the generosity,
00:02:52.340 and the determination of Canadians. It is the driving force of every single day
00:02:58.580 I have the privilege of serving in this office. That is why, since 2015, I've fought for this
00:03:06.180 country, for you, to strengthen and grow the middle class. Why we rallied to support each
00:03:14.180 other through the pandemic, to advance reconciliation, to defend free trade on
00:03:20.260 this continent, to stand strong with Ukraine and our democracy, and to fight climate change
00:03:27.380 and get our economy ready for the future. We are at a critical moment in the world.
00:03:50.260 It's what motivates me every day when I have the privilege of serving in this position.
00:03:57.260 That's why, since 2015, I fought for this country, for you, to strengthen the middle class.
00:04:07.260 Why are we mobilized as Canadians to support each other during the pandemic?
00:04:14.260 The drama teacher comes right out.
00:04:18.600 Every morning, I wake up at the prime minister.
00:04:22.380 For our unabandoned support of Ukraine and democracy.
00:04:29.140 And to fight for climate change and prepare for the future economy.
00:04:35.480 We really are experiencing a critical moment in the world.
00:04:39.960 Is he crying?
00:04:40.640 My friends, as you all know, I'm a fighter.
00:04:46.160 Every bone in my body has always told me to fight because I care deeply about Canadians.
00:04:52.740 I care deeply about this country.
00:04:55.160 And I will always be motivated by what is in the best interest of Canadians.
00:05:00.600 And the fact is, despite best efforts to work through it, Parliament has been paralyzed for months after what has been the longest session of a minority Parliament in Canadian history.
00:05:18.120 That's why this morning, I advised the Governor-General that we need a new session of Parliament.
00:05:25.000 She has granted this request, and the House will now be prorogued until March 24th.
00:05:33.700 Over the holidays, I've also had a chance to reflect and have had long talks with my family about our future.
00:05:42.200 Oh, man.
00:05:43.040 At the course of my career, any success I have personally achieved has been because of their support and with their encouragement.
00:05:51.000 encouragement so last night over dinner i told my kids about the decision that i'm sharing with you
00:05:58.200 today i intend to resign as party leader as prime minister after the party selects its next leader
00:06:10.040 through a robust nationwide competitive process last night i asked the president
00:06:16.920 the Liberal Party to begin that process. This country deserves a real choice in the next election
00:06:25.080 and it has become clear to me that if I'm having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best
00:06:33.240 option in that election. Mes chers amis, comme vous savez, je suis un fighter. Dans mon fort
00:06:41.880 all right all right so this means uh that the house will not be returning on january 27th
00:07:04.840 obviously all committees because of prerogament or prorogation all committees will be shut down
00:07:11.400 So the January 7th committee will not be able to meet and discuss the vote of non-confidence.
00:07:20.280 This also means the Liberal Party is going to be holding a, I guess, an abbreviated leadership.
00:07:26.860 And we don't know who the front runners are yet, but we can imagine it's Mark Carney, Christia Freeland, maybe Melanie Jolie, Francois Philippe Champagne.
00:07:38.380 Those are the only four I can think of right now.
00:07:41.400 And then they come back on March 24th.
00:07:43.640 They're going to have to do a speech from the throne where they will be defeated by a vote of confidence.
00:07:48.440 So expect an election sometime at the end of April.
00:07:52.140 That's what I say right now, although I'm maybe talking out of my ass because I haven't got all the details.
00:07:59.580 But he's still speaking French. So let's get back here.
00:08:11.400 Yesterday, I asked the president of the party to start the necessary steps.
00:08:18.400 The country deserves a clear and real choice during the next elections.
00:08:25.400 It is clear to me that if I have to focus on internal battles, I can't be the best option during these elections.
00:08:35.400 The Liberal Party is an important institution in the history of our great country and our democracy.
00:08:44.400 A new Prime Minister and Chief of the Party will bring the values and ideas of the Liberal Party in the next election.
00:08:53.400 I hope to see the progress of this process in the months to come.
00:08:59.400 So this is what Mulroney did when he stepped down in 93.
00:09:12.580 You stay on, generally speaking, until they elect a new leader.
00:09:16.180 Your party elects a new leader. That's nothing new.
00:09:21.260 The Liberal Party of Canada is an important institution
00:09:24.820 in the history of our great country and democracy.
00:09:27.560 A new Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party will carry its values and ideals into that next election.
00:09:37.360 I'm excited to see the process unfold in the months ahead.
00:09:43.080 We were elected for the third time in 2021 to strengthen the economy post-pandemic.
00:09:50.160 No, you weren't.
00:09:50.600 It advanced Canada's interests in a complicated world.
00:09:53.560 And that is exactly the job that I and we will continue to do for Canadians.
00:10:02.420 Thank you, Prime Minister. We'll now go to questions, starting with Laurence Martin, Radio-Canada.
00:10:09.020 Bonjour, Monsieur Trudeau.
00:10:23.560 Okay, so while they speak French here,
00:10:27.140 let me just clarify and try and answer some of the questions here.
00:10:30.800 First of all, people are complaining about the governor-general.
00:10:38.640 Generally speaking, the governor-general will act on the advice of the prime minister.
00:10:44.440 There has been one very rare instance, going back to 1927,
00:10:49.060 where the governor general does not act on the advice of the prime minister.
00:10:54.660 That was called the King Bing Affair.
00:10:56.280 You can look it up in history books.
00:10:57.920 But usually speaking, they will go ahead and do what the prime minister asks.
00:11:02.840 And you know what?
00:11:03.920 I mean, a lot of people were expecting a longer prorogation than March 24th.
00:11:09.320 So that's not terrible.
00:11:11.600 I'm not going to say it's great, but it's not terrible
00:11:14.780 because it's bad because of Trump's tariffs, obviously.
00:11:20.860 I mean, he's going to impose 25% tariffs on us.
00:11:24.420 But...
00:11:24.940 And Canadians deserve a real choice in the next election.
00:11:30.340 And it has become obvious to me with the internal battles
00:11:34.960 that I cannot be the one to carry the liberal standard
00:11:40.000 into the next election.
00:11:40.980 you know this is going to be a kiss-ass session with the media and we'll hear it we'll listen to
00:11:58.500 it all but anyway getting back to what i was saying is the the gg usually acts on the the
00:12:03.120 advice of the prime minister the march 24th date's not bad like i said this new liberal leader slash
00:12:08.480 prime minister and that's who this person will be they will be appointed the new prime minister
00:12:12.440 they will have to come back to parliament on march 24th and with a speech from the throne
00:12:19.220 which is an automatic confidence vote and so all we can hope for is jagmeet singh to keep his word
00:12:26.960 and if that is the case and all all the opposition parties vote against and they know it's going to
00:12:33.420 happen the liberals obviously know it's going to happen then we will have an election sometime in
00:12:37.960 April.
00:13:07.960 next question um we got elected in 2015 to fight for the middle class no that's exactly what we've
00:13:20.600 done over the past no it isn't we reduced their taxes we uh increased no you didn't it's to
00:13:26.520 families we made sure the economy was focused on working for everyone and not just a few
00:13:32.520 and that has changed that has dropped poverty rates in canada that has brought more people
00:13:38.520 into the workforce that has moved us forward on reconciliation in a way that has deeply
00:13:46.040 improved the opportunities and success of canadians despite the incredibly difficult
00:13:51.480 times the world is going through right now there's lots more work to be done and i know
00:13:58.920 that this party in this country and Canadians will keep doing it he's gonna cry if I have one
00:14:06.120 regret particularly as we approach this election well there are probably many regrets that I will
00:14:10.920 think of but I do wish that we'd been able to change the way we elect our governments in this
00:14:20.560 country so that people could simply choose a second choice or a third choice on the you had
00:14:25.840 your chance to do that years ago and you reneged out your promise second or third choices and
00:14:31.480 people would have been looking for things they have in common instead of trying to
00:14:36.920 polarize and divide Canadians against each other you're going to get wiped out
00:14:41.020 time figuring out how to pull together and find common ground remains something that is really
00:14:47.800 important for democracies but I could not change unilaterally without support of other parties
00:14:54.880 our electoral system, that wouldn't have been responsible.
00:14:58.280 Prochaine question.
00:14:59.600 Tanda McCharles, Toronto Star.
00:15:01.520 Prime Minister, up until three weeks ago, you were intending to stay.
00:15:07.000 And it seems that the event three weeks ago of Ms. Freeland coming out and saying you
00:15:13.400 were firing her as your finance minister was the catalyst that brought us here today.
00:15:19.360 So can you explain your side of what happened there?
00:15:24.880 Christia has been by my side for close to 10 years now.
00:15:31.960 She has been an incredible political partner through just about everything we have done
00:15:38.640 as a government and as a party over the past decade.
00:15:46.520 I had really hoped that she would agree to continue as my Deputy Prime Minister and take
00:15:52.520 on one of the most important files that not just this government but this country is facing
00:15:58.920 but she chose otherwise finance is the most important jackal oh this guy what actually
00:16:05.480 happened i am not someone who's in the habit of sharing private conversations
00:16:11.720 yes you are but it's to your advantage you do
00:16:15.000 man there is a lot of horrendous language and hate in the comments and i don't blame you
00:16:30.360 i don't blame you after everything that this jackass has done to us over the past 10 years
00:16:40.680 um
00:16:45.000 We'll do a summary after it's over here.
00:17:06.000 You spoke about the Liberal Party as an institution and the internal battles right now.
00:17:10.000 now but i'm wondering if you feel that another leader will have more success than you will
00:17:15.120 at beating pierre polyev in the next campaign pierre polyev's vision for this country
00:17:25.600 is not the right one for canadians stopping the fight against climate change doesn't make sense
00:17:33.040 there is no backing off on the values and strength and diversity that canada has always
00:17:44.800 always worked to pull itself together on no it's not true for the country it's not true attacking
00:17:51.760 journalists the cbc institutions that's not what canadians need in this moment
00:17:57.200 it is we need an ambitious optimistic view of the future and pierre polyev is not offering that
00:18:05.820 i cannot believe i look forward to the fight as progressives across this country
00:18:11.800 stand up for marxist kind of vision for a better country that canadians have always carried despite
00:18:19.940 the tremendous pressures around the world to think smaller,
00:18:26.400 to veer towards the hard right,
00:18:29.340 and to be less ambitious for what we can be and do as a country
00:18:35.340 when the world really needs Canada.
00:18:37.880 That's not an answer, though.
00:18:39.100 Yes or no?
00:18:39.760 Is there another leader that could lead on?
00:18:41.660 Absolutely.
00:18:43.960 Sur le leader?
00:18:45.100 Oui.
00:18:45.360 You know, guys, this is not Trudeau lying.
00:19:04.020 This is not Trudeau lying.
00:19:06.140 This is, for some reason, we've gone down on Twitter.
00:19:09.640 I don't know why.
00:19:11.380 This is not Trudeau lying.
00:19:12.680 This is...
00:19:15.360 And him actually, this is what he believes in his heart.
00:19:22.540 And that's a shame for the majority of Canadians.
00:19:26.860 That is a terrible shame that we have allowed this guy as our prime minister for over nine years now.
00:19:35.700 That's what he thinks.
00:19:37.080 He's, I guess it's not a lie if you believe it, but it's truly pathetic.
00:19:45.360 And now we've got a lot of cleaning up to do because the Liberals will be toast in two and a half months.
00:20:15.360 Alors, j'aimerais savoir pourquoi ce qui était mauvais pour les conservateurs de Stephen Harper devrait être bon pour les libéraux de Justin Trudeau.
00:20:23.580 The General Governor, in 2008, had correctly concluded that the House just came to give their trust in a formal way to Mr. Harper's government.
00:20:42.580 Even though a letter signed, which was a political document, the vote of the chamber counts.
00:20:55.580 However, before we stop working at the chamber for the Fêtes, we gained three votes of non-confidence.
00:21:10.580 And we will have to test the trust of the chamber since March
00:21:20.580 to pass the necessary elements to make the government work.
00:21:28.580 In 2008, the Governor-General correctly concluded that
00:21:35.580 Because the very last times in the previous weeks that the confidence of the House had been tested, it had passed that confidence test, Stephen Harper continued to have the confidence of the House.
00:21:55.400 And it actually would bear out because as soon as they came back from the prorogation, Stephen Harper won a confidence vote once again.
00:22:02.940 So a political document or political speeches doesn't carry the kind of weight that winning a confidence vote means.
00:22:14.300 But this prorogation will take us only into March, and there will be confidence votes in March in the passing of supply
00:22:25.560 that will allow Parliament to weigh in on confidence
00:22:30.180 in a way that is entirely in keeping
00:22:34.180 with all the principles of democracy
00:22:37.140 and the workings of our strong institutions.
00:22:41.280 Mais avec respect, Monsieur Trudeau,
00:22:42.840 y a-t-il pas quelque chose un peu anti-démocratique
00:22:44.900 de suspendre la possibilité du Parlement d'exprimer...
00:22:48.540 So are the French given priority when it comes to questions?
00:22:51.920 why is the french media always at the beginning and then they have to translate back to english
00:22:59.520 that seems rather disproportionate considering there's over 40 million people in the country
00:23:04.580 and only seven or eight million of them live in quebec the majority live in english it should be
00:23:09.020 english first french second if you're talking about that highly frustrating this bilingual thing
00:23:15.680 i've never really talked about that maybe i will one night but i mean unbelievable
00:23:20.300 so this is nothing new
00:23:23.400 this is nothing new in terms of
00:23:28.040 political leaders stepping down
00:23:29.660 I think the most recent example would have been in Manitoba
00:23:31.980 where Brian Pallister stepped down
00:23:33.740 as premier and that was very quick
00:23:35.320 and was replaced
00:23:36.680 with an internal vote
00:23:39.920 well not internal
00:23:40.680 the progressive conservative
00:23:43.000 party of Manitoba
00:23:45.400 voted with all of their membership
00:23:47.300 between two candidates
00:23:49.460 and then that
00:23:50.300 candidate who won which was heather steffensen became the premier until the end of the conservative
00:23:55.260 term a couple of years ago or a year and a half ago so she was an unelected premier
00:24:03.460 just like this next prime minister whoever it is will be for a period of probably a month
00:24:11.020 a month and a half tops so whoever is running for that job knows this which means i'm thinking that
00:24:20.300 there's going to be only two candidates and mark carney won't
00:24:25.180 he knows he's going to be annihilated anybody who steps into that void knows they're going to be
00:24:30.780 annihilated moment complex and these two elements will represent the reset necessary for the parliament
00:24:46.620 the parliamentary press gallery and anyone who's been watching politics closely over the past
00:24:55.740 months will know that parliament has been entirely seized by obstruction obstruction you all you
00:25:06.300 needed to do was reveal a total lack of productivity the documents over the past few months that you
00:25:11.860 were ordered to reveal the longest serving minority government in history and it's time
00:25:17.760 for a reset it's time for the temperature to come down for the people to have a fresh start
00:25:25.780 in parliament to be able to navigate through these complex times both domestically and
00:25:32.380 internationally and the reset that we have is actually two parts one is the prorogation
00:25:39.840 But the other part is recognizing that removing me from the equation as the leader who will fight the next election for the Liberal Party should also decrease the level of polarization that we're seeing right now in the House and in Canadian politics and allow people to actually focus on serving Canadians in this House.
00:26:03.960 So they haven't been then, Justin. That's what you're saying. They haven't been serving Canadians.
00:26:08.000 Good morning, Prime Minister. Stephanie Taylor with the National Post.
00:26:12.420 Given, as you just said, there's going to be confidence votes in March, opposition parties have said they are prepared to bring down your government.
00:26:18.860 What kind of chances do you think you are leaving to your successor, given that there will only be mere weeks for them to introduce themselves to Canadians before heading into an election, potentially?
00:26:28.780 I have a tremendous amount of confidence in both Canadians and in parliamentarians' interest in serving Canadians in the right way.
00:26:40.920 He knows they're going to be decimated. I can't believe he can keep a straight face here.
00:26:44.820 a minority government right now and there hasn't been an active leadership in a minority government
00:26:51.220 in more than 50 years in this country and there is always going to be the challenge of having a
00:26:59.780 leadership race while a parliament would face confidence votes uh in in uh in the course of
00:27:08.580 of delivering supply to the government so this is something that we're going to navigate through
00:27:16.580 but i truly feel that removing the contention around my own continued leadership
00:27:26.900 is an opportunity to bring the temperature down have a government that will focus on the complex
00:27:34.580 issues that are coming forward in the coming months while the party gets to have a full
00:27:43.140 national process that brings in people from right across the country and makes a determination about
00:27:51.700 the best person to carry the progressive liberal standard into the next election can you clarify
00:28:00.420 whether ministers who would like to campaign for your job will have to step out of cabinet and how
00:28:06.900 can the liberal government be in a position to protect canadian businesses and canadians from
00:28:12.980 the threat of tariffs from incoming president donald trump when members of the government
00:28:17.620 are going to be focused on who's going to be taking your job good question um the government
00:28:22.980 will still and the cabinet will still be very much focused on doing the job that canadians
00:28:28.900 elected us to do in 2021 which is fight for their interests stand up for their well-being
00:28:36.420 and make sure that they are good and that canadians are are protected and strong
00:28:45.460 there will be a leadership process and the rules will unfold over the coming weeks but i can assure
00:28:51.620 you that the tools and the need to stand up for Canadians, to protect Canadians in their
00:29:00.360 interests and continue to fight for the economy, is something that everyone in this government
00:29:05.880 will be singularly focused on.
00:29:12.740 So, Trump knows that this is a lame duck government.
00:29:19.320 He's known that since the beginning, if he thinks about Canada very often, which I doubt
00:29:24.480 he does.
00:29:25.020 But if his thoughts turn to Canada, he knows the situation that we're in up here.
00:29:29.900 So the best thing that I can recommend to you guys right now is we make a plea to President
00:29:37.580 Trump right now and say, Mr. President, this asshat here is derailing our country.
00:29:47.000 he's been doing that for nine years we know you don't take him seriously as a leader as a negotiator
00:29:53.820 as a person could you hold off on your tariffs he's gone wow and there you have it justin trudeau
00:30:01.280 there you have it uh so could you hold off on your tariffs mr president for a couple of months
00:30:07.740 maybe three months until we can have an election and elect somebody who knows what they're doing
00:30:16.600 Somebody who sees more eye-to-eye on the world with you than this idiot.
00:30:24.480 And we might get his attention if we can find the right person, like Jordan Peterson, or even, you know,
00:30:31.960 who's a Canadian with a big name in America who's with us?
00:30:39.920 Then maybe we can get a message to Trump and say,
00:30:44.100 and you hold off on the tariffs for just a few months.
00:30:46.660 We've got an election brewing soon.
00:30:48.980 Because like I was saying,
00:30:50.160 whoever takes this leadership role
00:30:55.820 is going to be flayed.
00:30:57.960 They're a clay pigeon.
00:30:59.220 They're going to be flayed.
00:31:00.960 Flayed, I tell you, in the election.
00:31:06.160 So who would want it?
00:31:08.620 Do you think that Christia Freeland
00:31:10.060 will be running for leader of of the liberal party or mark carney will be running for leader
00:31:17.760 of the liberal party yeah they'll get to be prime minister for a day literally a day
00:31:25.280 when they they win the election and so they're going to have a leadership convention or whatever
00:31:32.960 maybe like i said an accelerated leadership and i guess that begins today we're going to find out
00:31:39.140 later on this afternoon which liberals are throwing their hats in the ring and who the favorites are
00:31:44.560 probably by tomorrow or the end of this week and it's gonna boil down to two then they're they're
00:31:51.940 gonna have the process i'm not sure how they're going to do it how the liberal party does it it's
00:31:57.220 been a long time since they've done it but once they come up with a leader that leader will be
00:32:04.260 sworn in as prime minister i suppose but there won't be any working parliament until march 24th
00:32:10.480 so really they're prime minister in name only and then march 24th they come back they have to do a
00:32:16.200 speech from the throne and the other good thing about this prerogament well i mean i'm not sure
00:32:21.720 there's anything good about it but uh the the good thing about it the one good thing would be that all
00:32:30.580 government bills get dropped all of them c63 anything that hasn't yet become law that's in
00:32:38.960 the process of becoming law is gone gone private members bills on the other hand different story
00:32:46.100 like bill c293 that's the uh make meat illegal during a pandemic bill that was brought in by
00:32:52.540 what's his name oh i forget his name now oh no
00:33:00.580 it's the impractical jokers um they just popped up on my screen sorry about that i'm not sure if
00:33:10.760 you could hear that or not but i did so where was i uh what's his name the guy uh liberal mp
00:33:18.060 nate erskine smith so that's a private members bill 293 and that's going to keep going but not
00:33:24.640 for too much longer, because like I say, March 24th, when the House returns, they will have a
00:33:30.780 confidence vote on the speech from the throne. And at that point, if Jagmeet Singh has any
00:33:36.360 testicles whatsoever, that government will fall and then we'll get an election. Generally speaking,
00:33:43.100 the election runs anywhere from like, let's just have a look here because it is morning,
00:33:48.780 not my natural time let's see how long so an election period can last from 37 to 51 days i
00:34:05.180 would imagine that this new liberal leader will try and make that campaign last as long as possible
00:34:14.640 to get their message out to Canadians.
00:34:18.680 So 50 days in election period starting March 24th.
00:34:28.500 So we're going to get an election second week of May.
00:34:34.740 That's when we will be going to the polls.
00:34:38.160 And we'll have a new prime minister that day,
00:34:41.700 whatever day the election is.
00:34:44.640 50-day campaign, probably.
00:34:47.360 Like I say, they're going to try and make it
00:34:48.600 as long as they possibly can
00:34:49.860 so they can introduce their new leader to Canadians
00:34:52.520 and try and make us like him or her.
00:34:56.700 So that's it.
00:34:58.300 Trudeau resigns as prime minister,
00:35:01.000 effective not immediately,
00:35:02.380 but effective as soon as the Liberals elect a new leader.
00:35:06.060 We don't know anything about that process yet.
00:35:08.460 I imagine that we're going to be finding out about it,
00:35:11.260 like I say, for the rest of today, maybe tomorrow.
00:35:15.660 We're going to start finding out who the candidates are,
00:35:17.780 maybe later on today.
00:35:19.000 Who knows?
00:35:19.540 I mean, this has been a fast-moving train, you guys.
00:35:22.860 This whole thing has been kind of in the back of all of our minds
00:35:27.540 for quite some time.
00:35:28.420 A lot of people are making reference to the World Economic Forum here.
00:35:36.780 Kevin O'Leary, Jeff, that's a great idea.
00:35:38.960 Maybe Kevin O'Leary can get the ear of Donald Trump and say, you know, Mr. President, I mean, we're kind of going through a hard time in Canada right now with this election.
00:35:49.760 And once we get a guy in there, but please hold off on the tariffs until, who knows?
00:35:54.740 I mean, maybe O'Leary can make that pitch successfully.
00:35:57.620 It would be great.
00:35:58.300 But what was I talking about?
00:36:04.320 Yeah.
00:36:05.460 So that's it.
00:36:06.280 We're going to find out who all of the candidates are as we move forward.
00:36:10.340 I don't think there's going to be time for any liberal to hold off on deciding whether or not they're going to be running for this job, right?
00:36:17.400 It's not like, well, we're going to be waiting around for Seamus O'Regan to make his decision.
00:36:21.780 No, no, this is going to have to be very, very soon.
00:36:24.620 This is going to be, like I say, a very short campaign.
00:36:28.540 Very, very short campaign.
00:36:30.100 But it's also a chance for the liberals to raise money.
00:36:33.040 apparently we're hearing uh well they have been raising money they're not poor or anything going
00:36:38.900 into an election versus the conservatives and the conservatives are by far and away
00:36:42.340 the number one raisers of money across the country uh they would have been hampered by the fact that
00:36:50.020 the conservatives could outspend them probably two to one so this will be an opportunity for the
00:36:56.340 liberals to raise money as well for an election campaign and the same for the ndp you know they're
00:37:00.700 going to take this time to run Jagmeet Singh all across the country and raise money. And,
00:37:07.760 you know, the other thing that people are asking me here in comments is, will Jagmeet Singh get
00:37:15.080 his pension? Well, if Parliament is prorogued, he's supposed to be an MP until February 25th.
00:37:24.460 That's his six-year anniversary, and that means that he gets his pension. So just because
00:37:30.560 parliament is prorogued doesn't mean he's not an mp so yes jagmeet will get his pension and if
00:37:38.680 that's the reason you think the ndp have been holding off on pulling the pin on these liberals
00:37:42.980 then he will in fact be voting non-confidence on march 24th i think it's more than that
00:37:50.900 i think that singh has agreed with trudeau at every step and wanted him to go even further
00:37:58.400 If you haven't watched the Pierre Polyev-Jordan Peterson interview, I rewatched the last part of that the other day, and there's some interesting things that they discuss, including the relationship between Jagmeet Singh and Justin Trudeau.
00:38:16.200 And, you know, they're both young global leaders. Neither one of them, Peterson nor Polyev, goes as far as to bring in the World Economic Forum.
00:38:23.640 They do talk about the Marxist philosophy they both hold, Singh and Trudeau, but they
00:38:31.300 don't equate it with the World Economic Forum.
00:38:33.400 They don't equate it with stakeholder capitalism or any of the other agencies that you and
00:38:39.060 I know are up to no good.
00:38:41.380 So at least it's a start, you know, when you get a conservative leader talking about the
00:38:48.380 prime minister, the current prime minister of a country being a Marxist, an extremist,
00:38:53.640 That's a good thing. I don't recall any conservative leader ever coming out, ever, and saying that in the past.
00:39:01.180 So I know there's a lot of people who say Polyev is one of them, or he's not far right enough, or whatever it is.
00:39:08.460 Ultimately, guys, this is what we've got. This is what we've got.
00:39:12.600 It's going to be interesting to see the polls.
00:39:15.700 You can bet that Nanos and Leger and all of the other polling agencies are going to be scrambling to get a poll out.
00:39:23.640 before the end of the week to see if this announcement makes any improvement at all for
00:39:28.220 the liberals. I mean, they've been sitting around, I think the lowest we had them in Angus Reid was
00:39:35.580 at 16%, that poll that came out between Christmas and New Year's, or maybe just before Christmas.
00:39:41.400 Either way, NADOS has come out with polls that show liberals at 17, 18%, right around the same
00:39:46.420 as the NDP, and the conservatives up around 45, 46, even 47%. So we'll see if this makes a
00:39:53.260 difference if liberal voters can now say oh thank god trudeau's gone now i can go vote liberal again
00:39:59.800 and there are going to be some people out there who think that guys whether you whether you
00:40:05.660 believe it or not that is the truth so um they might come up a couple of points which may make
00:40:15.620 the ndp and conservatives come down a couple of points either way i i believe it's still going to
00:40:20.340 be ridiculous so we're probably going to shake out with the conservatives at 42 maybe the liberals
00:40:26.760 come up to 23 maybe it's still a complete and total devastation for the liberal party of canada
00:40:34.880 and in the election
00:40:36.340 i'm going to make an early prediction right now there's going to be 343 seats
00:40:45.040 because they're adding five new ones.
00:40:49.420 I think the conservatives,
00:40:52.060 200, and this is a conservative,
00:40:55.700 not a conservative party prediction,
00:40:59.300 but a conservative estimate.
00:41:01.320 I believe the conservatives get 218 seats
00:41:05.420 out of the 343.
00:41:06.820 That leaves 125.
00:41:10.360 I think the block is going to get 50.
00:41:12.860 50.
00:41:15.040 I think the NDP are going to get you about the same, 25.
00:41:18.800 I'm just rounding off here.
00:41:20.520 And then the liberals get what's left over.
00:41:24.000 So that's like, I don't know, 40 or so seats.
00:41:27.540 A lot of people had them down at six, single digits, seat-wise.
00:41:33.500 And we can always hope.
00:41:35.320 But remember that if the liberal seat count goes down,
00:41:38.520 the NDP seat count probably goes up.
00:41:40.440 And remember, they're both Marxist parties.
00:41:42.680 When you look at the polling, a lot of people don't look at it this way, but you see the
00:41:48.600 conservatives at 45%, let's say, and the PPC at one or two points.
00:41:53.860 So let's put that together for a conservative vote of 47% in this country, and then you
00:42:02.200 put the liberals and the NDP and the Greens together, and you're talking about almost
00:42:11.540 the same and then the bloc is the rest and the bloc doesn't count because they don't run as
00:42:17.420 as a left party or a right party on the spectrum they run as a separatist party only in quebec so
00:42:23.980 you can't include them and they get the other six or seven percent of the vote so this means the
00:42:30.260 zeitgeist of our country is heavily divided and almost exactly even 47 47 47 46 conservative
00:42:38.900 minded people and and when i talk about conservative minded people there's a lot of
00:42:43.040 people who are progressive conservatives they're not social conservatives they're fiscal conservatives
00:42:49.040 but social liberals red tories is their note and those people obviously haven't thought through
00:42:56.300 all of the policies of the left at least not very much and the only reason that they're voting
00:43:02.720 conservative is to get rid of Trudeau or the liberals in general. So we've got a lot of,
00:43:08.400 I don't like to use this word, but I'll say it anyway, a lot of educating to do
00:43:13.540 when it comes to other conservatives in this country, not as conservative as you may be or
00:43:21.420 I might be. And that's, again, you know, when you say I'm conservative, that's not anything to be
00:43:26.400 ashamed of. And that's the first thing that the far left will do. They'll try to shame you for
00:43:33.100 being a conservative. There's nothing wrong with being a conservative. It means to conserve. And
00:43:37.700 in this case, we're talking about conserving our country and our way of life before all of these
00:43:45.320 progressives can take it over and change it into what they envision. And I don't even think there
00:43:49.680 really is a vision from them anyhow. Anyway, that's a whole other conversation to have.
00:43:56.400 And Justin Trudeau, in case you're just joining now, has resigned as Prime Minister of Canada and the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.
00:44:06.280 His resignation will take effect when the Liberals choose a new leader.
00:44:10.840 And the House is prorogued until March 24th.
00:44:13.940 More coming up on Shadow at Night livestream tonight at 8 o'clock central.
