00:06:35.880 One of them is Florida Senator Marco Rubio, one of them is former North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, and one of them is J.D. Vance, the new senator from Ohio.

00:06:52.040 I met Doug Burgum at the Collier County Republican Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinner, where we both spoke.

00:06:59.960 Mark Robinson, the lieutenant governor of North Carolina, was also there.

00:07:05.900 He's the Republican nominee for governor of North Carolina, very impressive, very charismatic.

00:07:13.080 But I also, candidly, was very impressed with Doug Burgum.

00:07:17.360 I was impressed by the speech he gave, in which he gave full-throated support for President Donald Trump.

00:07:26.000 Unfortunately, however, the more I dig, the more I'm beginning to wonder whether Doug Burgum is who we think he is.

00:07:35.600 Joining us now is Shane Trejo, a political reporter with Big League Politics, who has, I think, a very important piece written on this exact subject.

00:07:57.380 We don't have much of a conception of what exactly Doug Burgum did as governor.

00:08:03.600 But the thing I find most disturbing is you say in your piece that Burgum allowed Chinese nationals to purchase, I believe it was 40,000 acres, very close to the North Forks military base in North Dakota,

00:08:25.520 where some of our most sensitive and powerful weapons are stored and from which they are deployed.

00:08:31.520 How does Donald Trump campaign against the power of China, campaign against specifically China buying up our farmland, our ranch land,

00:08:44.340 systematically buying up land close to military facilities in our country, when his own running mate seems to have done exactly that?

00:08:52.840 It doesn't quite add up from everything that I've seen.

00:08:58.500 You know, Burgum is putting himself out there as if he's an America First Patriot.

00:09:02.780 He's being promoted by Fox News incessantly.

00:09:06.560 They're constantly talking about how great of a guy he is.

00:09:11.020 He's allowed to go on there, spew the right talking points.

00:09:14.160 And, you know, the Fox News people will gush all over him about how he's the next George.

00:09:26.160 But when you look pure into his record, not only giving money, rolling out the red carpet for China to come in and swallow up farmland, 0.95

00:09:40.540 when his company, Great Plains Media, was swallowed up by Bill Gates back in the late 1990s.

00:09:48.960 Bill Gates kept him on as a director for several years in Microsoft, and they've had a very chummy relationship since.

00:09:59.140 Bill Gates gave $150,000 to the Burgum campaign when he was running for governor.

00:10:05.440 And then when Bill Gates came in as a part of his land grab, the rules in the state of North Dakota, which are to prevent.

00:10:18.960 It looks like we have a little.

00:10:22.060 Corporations coming and swallowing up farm rules were, oh, the rules were waived.

00:10:27.900 And unfortunately, Bill Gates was able to swallow up that land.

00:10:31.920 And the corporations, you know, the laws preventing the corporations, Burgum's attorney general looked the other way and just dragged their feet and had no interest in enforcing the law.

00:10:43.660 So Bill Gates got that special privilege, and that's the way Burgum operates.

00:10:49.500 He's going to support the corporate elite.

00:10:51.760 And if he's in there as vice president under Trump, it's not a guy he can trust.

00:10:57.040 It's going to be another Mike Pence-style situation.

00:11:06.400 Again, if you're just tuning in, Shane Trejo with Big League Politics joining us now to talk about his groundbreaking piece regarding Governor Doug Burgum.

00:11:17.160 One of the other disturbing things here was not only the fact that it appears to me that Bill Gates actually made Burgum a very wealthy man.

00:11:27.260 In other words, when he purchased Burgum's company, it was for close to $2 billion.

00:11:33.540 So his wealth appears to come from Bill Gates.

00:11:38.340 That is disturbing.

00:11:40.400 But also a report that he has signed a transgender bill that I think most Republicans would have real problems with.

00:11:50.120 Tell us about that.

00:11:50.980 Yes, so Burgum, as a governor, has stood up for the so-called rights of transgender athletes to compete in sporting events outside of their birth gender.

00:12:04.700 So he vetoed legislation that would have made it so that no transgender women born a man could participate in female sporting events.

00:12:17.720 He said everything's just fine.

00:12:19.600 It's not a real problem.

00:12:20.980 I'm vetoing it.

00:12:22.080 And then, you know, that's bad enough.

00:12:24.180 But then he also, a year, a couple years later, vetoed legislation that would have banned the use of transgender pronouns by public school officials.

00:12:35.040 So he has allowed the sort of the transgender insanity to fester within North Dakota schools. 0.99

00:12:43.320 And he said, this is a really insulting quote,

00:12:46.480 The teaching profession is challenging enough without the heavy hand of state government forcing teachers to take on the role of pronoun police.

00:12:54.640 So totally, you know, basically spitting in conservative spaces.

00:12:58.620 He also vetoed school choice legislation and then invited Biden Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm into his state to promote global warming propaganda, says that North Dakota is going to get down to carbon net zero policies.

00:13:16.160 And, of course, he talks about that's going to be done through the free market, and that's why Republicans should support it.

00:13:25.200 So he's out there championing this leftist propaganda and then acting like, oh, it's a Republican thing to do.

00:13:32.360 So in terms of his record, it's very bad.

00:13:35.800 And that's really unfortunate that he's being pushed so hard right now.

00:13:40.560 He's being put out there, obviously, you know, to get Trump's attention and talk a good game to try to get get on as vice president.

00:13:52.060 He's being put out there as a way to subvert the MAGA agenda.

00:13:56.100 And when you appear into his record, it's pretty obvious that's the case.

00:14:12.300 And my question to you specifically with Burgum is, why do you think that there's so many in the conservative world?

00:14:18.380 You know, I see people who are usually very light on their feet, you know, people who really understand what's going on, who have been kind of fooled by Doug Burgum.

00:14:24.980 And when I did a cursory search on Burgum early on, when he was mentioned as a person that they were considering, it was pretty alarming.

00:14:32.520 You know, you see, you see things like big pharma, you think you see things like Bill Gates, you pointed out.

00:14:37.860 And my question is, why has he been able to fool so many people and the conservative movement?

00:14:43.460 Do you think that there are donor interests who are promoting Burgum as kind of a Trojan horse here?

00:14:50.560 I don't want to speculate.

00:14:52.180 But my guess is that there's a lot of, you know, influencers on social media who might be getting a paycheck or two to talk about how great Burgum is.

00:15:00.720 I've seen pictures of, look at him in a cowboy hat.

00:15:48.240 From what I've seen, the groundswell of people on the grassroots, they want Ben Carson or J.D. Vance as the vice president of the people who've kind of been floated out there as potential vice presidential candidates.

00:16:05.340 And I'd be leery of any influencer, supposed MAGA influencer, who's getting on the Burgum train right now.

00:16:21.580 Look, either one of the two candidates you just mentioned would be greatly preferable.

00:16:35.440 Well, neither one of them is a neocon.

00:16:37.240 I think it is vitally important for the future of the America First movement, also for the safety of a president, Donald Trump, that we select someone who shares his vision, someone who the radical left and the globalists are just as afraid of as they are Donald Trump.

00:17:00.560 That is not based on what I've seen, Doug Burgum.

00:17:05.460 Yet the conservative media has really not touched upon his record.

00:17:10.540 All they focused on is the more recent pro-Trump things that he said.

00:17:15.680 Now, when I've seen him on the networks defending Trump, he's been quite good.

00:17:19.660 He's good on his feet.

00:17:21.320 But then Mike Pence was good, too, right up until the moment that he wasn't.

00:17:27.180 I'm afraid that while I will support whoever the president designates, and I want to make that clear, I think that there's an important dynamic here when you watch what's going on with the Democrats.

00:17:39.860 The president has hinted that he may name his running mate as soon as tomorrow at a massive rally at Doral, Florida.

00:17:50.960 Part of me thinks this is just Donald Trump with another massive tease.

00:17:59.500 And, of course, legally, he doesn't have to name his running mate right up until the moment of the Republican National Convention, which opens in terms of full session next week.

00:18:30.000 Well, and, Roger, I wanted to ask you kind of just electorally, as far as Burgum goes, do you think that there's any support that's gained if he is the eventual nominee?

00:18:40.960 I mean, it would seem to me of J.D. Vance, you know, you may – we've talked about Ohio here on this date, and I think you have even said that you view Ohio as kind of solidly red.

00:18:51.480 I'm not sure that J.D. Vance helps you a lot.

00:18:53.680 I'm not sure that Ben Carson helps you a ton electorally.

00:18:57.300 And I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

00:18:59.000 Is Doug Burgum really getting Trump any votes?

00:19:02.140 And if he's not, which candidate of all the speculated candidates do you think gives Trump the biggest boost in 2024?

00:19:09.040 Well, first of all, let me say there are two schools of thought on this.

00:19:15.500 Former President Richard Nixon once told me directly, in selecting a running mate, don't look for someone who can help you.

00:19:23.740 Just find someone who doesn't hurt you.

00:19:27.300 Kind of ironic in the fact that I think Nixon in 1960 and in 1968 ended up picking running mates that did not help him.

00:19:36.560 And a case could be made that they hurt him.

00:19:39.480 So the do-no-harm school, don't look for somebody who gets you some new votes.

00:19:47.340 Just get someone who won't be a distraction, who will have your back, who you can count on not to contradict you when you're on one end of the country and they are on the other.

00:20:00.060 Dr. Ben Carson would certainly meet that criteria.

00:20:04.260 He is loyal.

00:20:06.180 He's run for president before, so he's tested.

00:20:09.420 He's sure-footed.

00:20:12.700 I don't think he gets you any particular voter group that you don't already have, but he is dependable.

00:20:21.220 J.D. Vance, I think, is an exciting idea because it brings youth to the ticket and potentially some outreach to millennials.

00:20:28.900 He has a distinguished service record in the military, which I think is vitally important.

00:20:35.640 I do wonder whether two years in the U.S. Senate, really less than two years, is enough to persuade the American people that you have the experience and the temperament and the judgment to be vice president and therefore potentially president.

00:20:52.680 On the other hand, Richard Nixon was very young.

00:20:56.900 When Dwight Eisenhower picked him, he had had only four years in the House, two years in the Senate, plus, of course, his service in the U.S. Navy.

00:21:06.200 So, given the fact that Donald Trump is 77, although a vigorous and sharp 77, unlike Joe Biden, J.D. Vance, I think, could bring more to the ticket than some of the other names being mentioned.

00:21:24.040 I like Marco Rubio on a personal level.

00:21:28.200 Marco Rubio, as a Florida constituent, has been very good to my family, helped my wife get into a program at NIH when she had cancer.

00:21:39.200 I'm happy to say she's now three years cancer free.

00:21:41.920 But, candidly, my politics are not his politics, and his politics are really not President Trump's politics.

00:21:49.920 They are in this hemisphere where Rubio has been great, hard line on the communists in Venezuela, the communists in Cuba.

00:21:58.820 Yet, I wonder whether he would be in favor of sending more money to Ukraine, for example, which, of course, he has voted for.

00:22:08.180 Again, I'm not endorsing any candidate, and I'll support whoever the president chooses in his wisdom, but I think this is getting more and more interesting.

00:37:51.520 Do you think that it's a wrong move for Kamala Harris to pick somebody like a Shapiro?

00:37:57.880 Do you think that she would benefit from choosing somebody that appeals to the more radical, we call them the Palestinian faction of the Democrat Party at this point?
