00:02:21.780 Goldwater, my boyhood idol, the man who got me interested in American politics, has passed away

00:02:28.100 some time ago. Then when I opened the package, I realized it was from Barry Goldwater Jr. Barry

00:02:35.160 Goldwater Jr. served in the U.S. Congress from 1969 to 1983 and subject to redistricting. He ran

00:02:44.320 for the U.S. Senate losing the Republican primary, Barry Goldwater Jr., who was a spitting image of

00:02:50.880 his father, who had a very square jaw, was a handsome guy and also the leader of the modern

00:02:57.520 American conservative movement, had seen or heard, I guess, the Stone Zone and heard me say

00:03:06.680 that it was his father's book, The Conscience of a Conservative, which was printed, you know,

00:03:12.800 by the millions in 1963 and four as the cornerstone of Barry Goldwater's successful nomination,

00:03:21.100 but his disastrous campaign for president of the United States. That was 1964. That was the

00:03:28.440 beginning of my political awakening. See, a lady who lived next door to us, a lady named Gladys 1.00

00:03:33.360 Rockwell. We were living in Lewisboro, New York at that time. She was active in the Women's

00:03:38.620 Republican Club, gave me a copy of this book, and I was transfixed. You see, Goldwater's vision of

00:03:44.660 America was mine, a strong national defense, peace through strength, limited regulation,

00:03:52.160 privacy, low taxation, and an unintrusive federal government, as well as an ardent

00:04:01.280 anti-communism. The package from Barry Goldwater Jr., in a very nice note, who said that he had

00:04:08.260 heard that his father's book started my political career while listening to The Stone Zone right

00:04:15.100 here on this show, was a book of the photographs that his father, who was a very famous amateur

00:04:21.020 photographer, had taken of the Old West. It was a very, very kind gesture. People think Barry

00:04:27.260 Goldwater lost, and in a way he did lose. He lost the 1964 election to Lyndon Johnson. But in fact,

00:04:35.040 He forged a new political coalition in America, which once broadened by Richard Nixon in 1968 and then used successfully by Ronald Reagan in 1980, as well as his reelection in 1984.

00:04:52.440 He's the same essential coalition that elected Donald Trump in 2016.

00:04:57.320 It is made up of working class families who were formerly Democrats, mostly ethnic Catholic working class Democrats in the Midwest, traditional Republicans in the Northeast, Southern whites who were more conservative.

00:05:14.700 And it was interesting that Richard Nixon in 1960 got about one third of the African-American vote.

00:05:22.760 That was an all time high until Donald Trump in 2024, when he made very substantial inroads among African-Americans.

00:22:10.760 his supporters from the stage. Bruce Springsteen, who I never thought much of, made similar headlines

00:22:49.880 underneath. Roughly two-thirds of the 120 passengers on this Chicago's Little Lady tour

00:26:29.600 and in their vote, those rules shut down plants without putting something just as reliable in their place.

00:26:47.820 Officials say the 2024 rules exceeded EPA authority under the Clean Air Act

00:26:57.920 But the Supreme Court struck down the Obama-era Clean Power Plan in West Virginia versus EPA.

00:27:10.120 it tried to shift the electricity system away from coal towards gas and unreliable renewables.

00:38:07.320 This comes amid Trump's ongoing feud with the White House Correspondents Association

00:38:11.960 and the left-wing media after he removed CNN, MSNOW, formerly known as MSNBC,

00:38:22.640 Three outlets were reinstated with White House access last week after a judge,

00:38:26.220 I think incorrectly, ruled that Trump's ban on the outlets was likely unconstitutional

00:38:31.320 and ordered the White House to restore their access.

00:38:35.120 They argue, of course, that this was a limitation on their First Amendment free speech rights,

00:38:39.740 which is absurd because they're free to report anything they want about President Trump or any other subject.

00:38:45.500 Why they're guaranteed taxpayer-financed and subsidized office space inside the White House.

00:38:53.920 Still, the leftist press pool decided to boycott the president,
