00:00:00.000 I'm Gavin Newsom, and having real conversations is nothing new for me.
00:00:06.060 Tackling tough questions, engaging with people who don't always agree with me, debating without
00:00:11.080 demeaning.
00:00:12.240 Now I'm taking those conversations even further on my new podcast.
00:00:16.660 Each week, I'm inviting voices from across the political spectrum, including those I
00:00:21.760 fundamentally disagree with, to discuss the most pressing and challenging issues of our
00:00:26.700 time.
00:00:27.200 I support border security.
00:00:28.880 You're trolling folks and trying to find migrants to try to get some news and attention so
00:00:32.820 you can out-Trump Trump.
00:00:34.240 How's that going for you, Ron?
00:00:36.140 You're down 41 points in your own home state.
00:00:40.560 71% of the GDP in America are blue counties.
00:00:44.300 71% of the GDP in America are blue counties.
00:00:48.660 Progressive policies.
00:00:50.180 But it's not just their voices that matter.
00:00:52.760 It's yours, too.
00:00:54.160 And that's why I want you, the listeners, to be part of the conversation.
00:00:57.180 We'll discuss, we'll debate, and we'll decode what the hell is going on.
00:01:02.120 The price of eggs is so ridiculously expensive.
00:01:05.220 So we agree that this price is insane.
00:01:07.840 Insane.
00:01:08.340 People are fighting for eggs.
00:01:10.620 What kind of world are we living in in that respect?
00:01:12.660 This is bird flu.
00:01:13.800 And they need to take it very, very seriously.
00:01:16.720 The Trump administration.
00:01:18.280 Kennedy scares me the most.
00:01:20.200 The lunatics in charge of the asylum, you know.
00:01:22.640 I think you alluded a little bit to how you would have to manage up with him.
00:01:27.420 That first act by the new Health and Human Service Secretary was a little more alarming.
00:01:33.740 But the fact that he already is looking to vandalize that advisory committee, we're going to be very vigilant.
00:01:39.240 What's really going on with Doge?
00:01:41.700 And why does Elon Musk have so much power?
00:01:44.780 It's a question we're all asking ourselves.
00:01:47.060 There's a lack of transparency around Doge.
00:01:49.580 There's a lack of understanding about his role.
00:01:52.400 He's got all this power and authority.
00:01:54.560 Is it moral authority or formal authority?
00:01:56.520 Is he actually going in and accessing your data?
00:02:00.260 And my biggest fear, be candid with you, is public safety.
00:02:03.980 Do you think that the Democrats have a messaging problem?
00:02:08.200 The majority of people are saying we're, quote unquote, out of touch.
00:02:10.980 That we don't represent you.
00:02:13.440 That we are weak.
00:02:14.820 Absolutely, absolutely, we have a messaging problem.
00:02:20.500 We may even break some news.
00:02:23.000 So we're getting a lot of questions, a lot of calls about something that's getting a lot of attention, unsurprisingly.
00:02:28.940 And that's what's going on with the Menendez brothers.
00:02:30.920 Today, I just notified the LADA, as well as the Menendez attorney, including victims, that I have directed the Board of Parole Hearings to do what we call a risk assessment investigation into their applications specifically for commutation.
00:02:48.400 The question for the board is a rather simple one.
00:02:51.700 Do Eric and Lyle Menendez, do they pose a current, what we call unreasonable risk to public safety?
00:02:58.820 The risk assessment will be conducted as they typically are conducted by experts in public safety, as well as forensic psychologists.
00:03:08.600 We're going to make the findings, by the way, available to the judges presiding over the resentencing motion in L.A. Superior Court, as well, of course, to the district attorney himself.
00:03:19.480 There's no guarantee of outcome here.
00:03:21.380 My office conducts dozens and dozens of these clemency reviews on a consistent basis.
00:03:27.040 But this process simply provides more transparency, which I think is important in this case, as well as provides us more due diligence before I make any determination for clemency.
00:03:38.760 So join the conversation and subscribe now.
