00:01:03.280 area and his family has been involved in the carnival business for over 100 years i'm excited to learn

00:01:11.040 all about the behind the scenes of the food the games the prizes the um the debauchery everything

00:01:19.680 that goes in uh to the carny universe today's guest is carny mitch candiano

00:01:38.400 mitch the carny baby good to see you thank you man thank you for having me so thanks for coming

00:01:59.280 on dude so we just want to learn about carnies and carnival employees fairs everything like it

00:02:06.400 um what is carny an appropriate term yeah i was born and raised a carny really my grandparents were

00:02:12.320 carnies my parents were carnies my brother and his kids are carnies no way oh yeah so it runs deep man

00:02:19.500 1918 he started and can i say before we really get going yeah i gotta thank you for having a poor

00:02:24.760 pedestrian like me on because you know i don't wear a watch and i don't use a washcloth so tom would

00:02:29.240 never have me on oh yeah does he yeah he doesn't like the pores he doesn't like the pores i don't

00:02:35.900 know why yeah i don't know dude i think we're great people yeah look i don't yeah i'm not yeah i don't

00:02:43.000 have a washcloth i'd i probably should have one that's what i use yeah yes he hates washcloths oh he

00:02:48.280 hates them he hates them yeah yeah yeah i think well i i'll use a washcloth like to get like in here

00:02:54.600 though yeah right i mean how do you get it out get in there really i try to use my fingernail and

00:02:59.840 getting it out and then just like putting it like that into the drain or whatever but i don't think

00:03:04.120 that's enough sometimes especially as you get older yeah you know um but yeah wet willy yeah you got

00:03:12.600 it doing a wet willy on somebody yeah yeah i remember doing oh i'm gonna sneak one up on you later 0.97

00:03:18.360 are you really dude just wear a condom oh i will okay that's all i'm asking for you know 0.99

00:03:24.400 i mean it's a leash you could do dude the irish hello sure man yeah it's our first time hanging 0.70

00:03:29.920 too so i'll definitely keep it covered yeah um but dude thanks yeah so i guess i'm just curious like

00:03:36.040 so what is a carny what is the term so a carny carnival you know carnival worker okay i guess is

00:03:41.820 where it came from and uh so that's what we are and i know there's all different versions i know

00:03:46.720 people sometimes think of like uh somebody that just got out of prison covered in tattoos smelling

00:03:53.360 like cabbage you know missing a couple fingers and they think that's a carny that's working the

00:03:57.360 ride or something like that oh yeah that iris deodorant yeah you know and uh we don't we carnies

00:04:03.360 don't call them carnies we call them like 40 milers or green help or something like that because

00:04:07.900 like a 40 miler he's just trying to get onto the road and get 40 miles down the street to the next

00:04:11.820 lot so you get out of whatever situation he was in when he joined the carnival okay so there's

00:04:16.700 different types you have actual carnies that are like they've been in there for a while yeah

00:04:21.020 like their families are out there they have kids they raise their kids out there and then you got

00:04:25.240 40 milers yeah we call them 40 milers and those are guys that are just kind of like maybe just got

00:04:30.540 out of doing some time and they're just trying to try to get a job and you know get out of town and get

00:04:35.600 out of town yeah just trying to get there for just something yeah and so a lot of times the

00:04:39.900 carnival will hire folks like that just because they need like a lot of short it's tough to find help

00:04:44.800 out there you know people that want to travel and just be out there every day and you know living

00:04:48.980 at the carnival yeah and you're in a different town every week and you know you don't get much

00:04:53.040 time off so it's it's wild yeah it's interesting well it's kind of interesting it's kind of similar

00:04:57.920 to uh comedians because you go to a town or a city for a few days and then you hit the road and you go

00:05:03.900 to somewhere else yeah yeah um i'd say like that's like the calling like a uh open mic or like a comic

00:05:10.300 is kind of like calling one of those ride guys a carny is kind of like the same thing you know

00:05:14.020 okay i see what you're saying yeah yeah yeah that makes good sense man um and your family's been

00:05:18.680 doing you said hundreds of years well since 1918 my grandfather started selling cotton candy in 1918

00:05:24.220 wow yeah and what brought him into that i'm really not sure he came over from italy when he was born

00:05:30.260 in 1900 and so he was about four or five years old came over on the boat to ellis island and all that

00:05:35.780 and uh i don't know he was 18 years old and started selling cotton candy at like street fairs and little

00:05:41.120 things like that and um yeah it's just kind of how we started and got into it i actually still have

00:05:45.960 some cotton candy machines that he built handmade like wooden frame and like you know belt driven

00:05:50.640 like old old school they obviously don't work but because then now they're like all sturdy metal

00:05:54.940 like you know industrial looking like the ones we use now whirlpool makes them yeah yeah something 0.98

00:05:59.500 like that but um yeah we have yeah your cotton candy will have a fucking sock in it or whatever 0.97

00:06:03.920 you're like this is like one of these you're looking at yeah so we have a couple like that 0.98

00:06:08.460 as a older those are kind of like the those kind of seem like residential ones that you can kind of

00:06:14.120 like buy for your house so your grandfather came over and he started selling cotton so he started

00:06:20.360 selling cotton candy yeah he's selling cotton candy and then like what he just gets a job he stays like

00:06:26.320 he just kept doing it and then you know he had kids and then my father got into it and my father

00:06:32.420 mother started their own whole carnival business oh they started buying rides and games and food and

00:06:37.360 everything and uh you know we had a whole carnival called candiano's amusements you know way back

00:06:42.920 before i was born and then when i was born they kind of split up and my dad started working for bigger

00:06:50.600 carnivals like the real big ones that did big the big county fairs and state fairs and stuff like that

00:06:55.380 yeah so he started working for a company like that and then went for ended up working for uh another

00:07:01.960 the biggest one in new england called fiesta shows and so he worked for them up until he died and so

00:07:07.220 he was kind of like you know a big shot out there he ran like food and games and stuff for him out there

00:07:12.300 and was a lot man so what and so did you what was one of your first jobs in the carnival yeah yep and so

00:07:19.180 what's the difference between a carnival and a fair because we had the fair would come a lot yeah so the

00:07:24.560 fair is the same thing yeah it's basically except the fair is they have like the animals and everything

00:07:29.920 like that like you have the whole agricultural part of it you know and sometimes they'll have

00:07:34.540 like demolition derbies and oh yeah and all that and like the races and um all the agricultural like

00:07:40.880 the pigs definitely yeah all that stuff so that's what kind of distinguishes it from a fair to a

00:07:46.120 carnival and they kind of been long running like up where we are we have the tops field fair it's been

00:07:50.880 around for like 150 years or something like that yeah how does that 4h element fit in because that's 0.99

00:07:55.780 also a whole different element than the rides and the games yeah that's kind of you would always like

00:08:00.080 i remember we'd always have to walk over to like the livestock shed or whatever it's like a bomb

00:08:05.340 shelter or whatever that had a bunch of pigs in it and stuff and you'd have to go over there and uh

00:08:10.240 pig races you ever see those yeah and they have like the kids art like you'd won like third place

00:08:14.700 whatever it was pretty bad a lot of like jesus christ like they hid it over here behind the

00:08:20.200 goats you know it wasn't that great of art but you'd be able to go over there and like um they

00:08:24.800 had like crocheting and a lot of local crafts but uh did you guys ever have beef was there like a lot

00:08:30.880 of like beef between carnies and the livestock was in the carnivals between the carnival wow like so

00:08:38.400 during the spring when we're doing just carnivals we would split up into like three different

00:08:43.900 sections so you could do three cities at the same time but then when we got to the fairs we would

00:08:48.140 all get together and then the fights would break out oh yeah like crazy fights so what was a lot

00:08:53.120 of the beef between the people the workers oh i'm a first unit no you know you're just a lonely guy

00:08:59.160 from the third unit like you know you shouldn't be over here like with us or partying with us or

00:09:03.980 hanging you know they kind of look down on you like it's just like anything else you know the first

00:09:08.940 unit got all the big rides and the nice stuff and then the second unit was kind of stepped down oh yeah and 0.96

00:09:13.680 then the third unit was like they got all the shit all the bad rides all the bad stuff so whenever 0.84

00:09:18.520 they all teamed up it was all these beefs going on like you know oh territorial stuff territorial stuff 0.93

00:09:24.820 yeah yeah huh so like what was your first job in in it i think my first i think i was probably

00:09:32.000 probably selling cotton candy probably in the in the floss we call it a floss stand and it was the one

00:09:36.680 that did cotton candy snow cones popcorn and candy apples oh yeah yeah and the caramel apples sprinkles

00:09:43.920 i love that man i still make caramel apples do you oh that's so good that's so good man and people

00:09:49.640 don't think about them that much no if you ask somebody what are you thinking about they never

00:09:53.840 say caramel apples that's true it just you know it's like something you don't hear as much as you

00:09:58.640 wish you should because they're so good when you get them they're so good yeah they really are

00:10:02.180 and was that like what goes into making cotton candy like what is it sugar and and coloring oh

00:10:09.600 okay that's it sugar and coloring yeah and it's honestly not a lot of sugar but what how does it

00:10:16.440 get the um cotton or whatever it heats up huh so it heats the sugar up so it like gets real stringy

00:10:23.120 and like fluffs out like that it goes in the machine so that's that head there in the middle spins

00:10:28.080 really fast and it heats up some people get crazy with the cotton candy have you seen the people that

00:10:32.220 make the animals and stuff with the cotton candy uh-uh oh no you should check that out really oh

00:10:37.180 they get crazy they make all kinds of animals and stuff with the cotton candy to give to the kids 0.92

00:10:41.360 i don't know how they do it i got a girl that works for me one of mitch's bitches yeah yeah and she 1.00

00:10:46.160 wants to start figuring out how to do that really yeah and that's what you call them mitch's bitches i 1.00

00:10:51.360 don't call them that they call themselves that oh yeah so don't cancel me guys no it could be a union

00:10:56.060 yeah who knows a lot of yeah there's a lot of different unions i'll study yeah so there's in

00:11:00.820 the pipe fitters union and he's always yelling about something but um yeah these girls they call 0.97

00:11:05.700 themselves mitch's bitches huh yeah they all made shirts that say mitch's bitches on it it's pretty 1.00

00:11:10.580 wild and those are your friends yeah friends yeah i pretty much hire friends or they become friends 0.98

00:11:17.560 real fast once they start working for me yeah like sill love you babe and so what about this bring

00:11:23.040 that back up sorry i'm just trying to learn about this so cotton candy it is made by heating and

00:11:27.600 liquefying sugar and spinning it centrifugally through minute holes minute holes causing it to

00:11:34.640 rapidly cool and re-solidify in a fine strands it is often sold at fair circuses carnivals wow

00:11:39.880 so you just put some sugar in a hot in the hot yeah and that thing that spins in the middle you pour

00:11:44.840 sugar in there and you call it you call it the sugar ahead of time okay and you start spinning and

00:11:49.340 next thing you know it makes cotton candy yes it's coming out crazy and you got your stick and you

00:11:52.640 whipping it around how fast how long does it take it doesn't take long to fill up a bag

00:11:57.460 wow but i don't know if this guy's gonna get crazy maybe he does i don't know i've seen some

00:12:02.440 there are some people that really make some intricate stuff with the cotton candy yeah there's

00:12:07.380 a machine that's just kind of like the one i have just like that so that was like my first gig you

00:12:11.740 know like there's a picture of me i was born in the summer so like as soon as i was born my mom

00:12:16.380 had me right out on the road with her uh-huh so there's a picture of me sitting by the con in my

00:12:20.760 little car seat sitting up by the cotton candy machine while she's making cotton candy you know 1.00

00:12:24.760 a month old seriously so your family was just out there like oh yeah and so like what towns was that

00:12:31.100 usually oh man we did like the topsfield fair the marshfield fair out on cape cod the bangor and

00:12:37.020 scowhegan fair up in maine rochester fair in new hampshire uh hopkinson fair in new hampshire

00:12:42.620 um but it was a really big one in connecticut we did wow yeah and then in the spring it was just

00:12:50.960 all the spring was always sometimes you do some a lot of the same stuff but a lot of times

00:12:55.240 it would get switched up because like if you didn't do that well the year before or whatever

00:12:59.840 you know they would find you another place to go yeah you know and towards the end i don't do

00:13:04.820 carnivals anymore i'm still in the business of like selling food and stuff like that but i don't do

00:13:09.300 carnivals because towards the end of when i was doing it they were still like we were doing like

00:13:14.860 these closed down strip centers you know i mean like old ames and kmart parking lots where everything's

00:13:19.700 boarded up and we're in the parking lot trying to make nobody's coming you got like you know nobody

00:13:25.020 there so this is uh somebody making cotton candy right here yep is this the machine you're talking

00:13:29.800 about mine's similar to that i don't know if it's they have a different speed or a heat it might be the

00:13:35.980 same because but it does seem like a different consistency than the one i use that that i make

00:13:40.800 and so what is it the sugar's in there just spraying it out really hot yep and it cools off

00:13:45.540 immediately oh wow so this is that's all cotton candy so this is a cotton candy machine right here

00:13:51.140 yep okay and so that's the sugar is inside of that see that little thing yeah that's spinning super 0.88

00:13:56.420 fast right in the middle it's spinning so fast you can't even tell it's spinning yeah and it's just

00:14:01.040 blowing hot sugar hot sugar oh yeah and now this wow and this is a korean guy oh he's getting down 1.00

00:14:09.460 huh yeah look at him

00:14:11.060 he'll make an umbrella it looks like he's making yeah like maybe a ufo yeah something

00:14:19.120 wow yeah these guys get creative i don't know how they do it so you guys would never do anything

00:14:25.100 like this at the fairs huh no i didn't even really leave it on sticks that often because i i wasn't that

00:14:29.680 good at spinning it because you want it to be like nice and big and fluffy on a stick when yeah

00:14:33.600 people that's true and so i wasn't even that great at that i would always put it in a bag and sell the

00:14:38.160 bag cotton candy wow this is unbelievably creative yeah oh here we go now do you get jealous when you

00:14:47.920 see somebody taking it to another level of course i know me too it's like when you see somebody that's 0.98

00:14:52.880 just that great they're crushing it on the stage like meeting tim dylan you're like ah damn 0.58

00:14:56.700 i'm just regular cotton candy oh man you and tim were on the same level come on oh that guy's so

00:15:02.240 funny he is oh it's just so funny to be around um thank you for saying that it's nice you to say

00:15:07.440 that um okay so you're working the cotton candy that's how you get started out what kind of like

00:15:12.460 groups are at the car at the carnival at the uh yeah we definitely say separated okay what kind of

00:15:18.800 groups are at the carnival like are there because there's the games right there are the joinies the

00:15:24.560 what is it we call them joinies joinies yep and what what is that the joints because the trailers we

00:15:29.920 call them joints okay and so they work the joints okay so they work the games those are the joints

00:15:35.100 and then there's the food yep and the concessions concessions and then there's and then you got the

00:15:40.760 ride jocks ride jocks yep and are those groups kind of like they keep to their own a little bit or

00:15:45.820 yeah for the most part the joinies and concessions are mingled and you know i mingled with everybody

00:15:50.620 just i knew everybody but you know a lot of times some of the ride guys would mingle with some of the

00:15:54.860 some of the concessions a little bit and you know they would mingle a little bit but for the most part

00:15:59.980 they were with their own crews you know yeah did you ever work the rides i yeah yeah i did it all i

00:16:05.020 because you know i was just out there and when i was a kid before i even like worked officially i would

00:16:08.760 like i knew everybody so i would jump on the ride hey let me run this ride for a little while or i

00:16:12.780 work inside the haunted houses scaring people when i was like you know 12 13 years old right you know

00:16:17.980 and like they had the walk-in you know haunted houses or the ones you ride through and i would

00:16:23.260 go in there and like scare the people coming through and stuff like that and you know that was always fun

00:16:28.120 and why is your family so tied in just for doing it for so long right honestly and um you know even

00:16:35.540 before my father you know i had i had um my grandfather around the same time i guess well

00:16:41.840 yeah he was i got my i had a great uncle or was he he was my father's great uncle i believe more

00:16:50.140 cousin and he was already big in the in the circus business he was one of the biggest freaks in the

00:16:54.840 world he was uh most famous three-legged man frank lentini frank lentini yep there he is

00:17:01.340 oh wow yeah he had three legs four feet two dicks 16 toes oh wow oh yeah two wieners on him yep

00:17:12.380 oh my gosh two peepees dude i couldn't even you could serve dude you could serve yeah it's almost 1.00

00:17:18.660 like you're like a damn soda fountain at that point leg dick leg dick leg leg oh you could have 0.98

00:17:23.260 urine and infantile you know it was wild and they both worked really yeah oh my gosh and how did 0.99

00:17:30.780 y'all know that was it did they write it down somewhere yeah well because he was so everybody

00:17:35.640 wanted to know you know so like when he was traveling the freak shows and he was really well

00:17:39.600 spoken they called him like the mayor of the freaks because he would go and speak for everybody like

00:17:43.760 when he'd be like you know we want more money or we want better working conditions or whatever

00:17:47.920 he would be the guy that would go talk to everybody he worked for ring lane uh barnum and bailey he

00:17:52.840 worked for all the all the big freak shows and circuses wow frank lentini was born in sicily in

00:17:57.800 1881 he was the fifth of 12 children yeah and they didn't his parents didn't really like him

00:18:03.640 that much gave him to his aunt yeah they were kind of ashamed of him because he had three legs

00:18:09.040 each of different lengths now that yeah that is a that's a lot too you know because then you're like

00:18:15.820 um throw it your hip like that's gonna be crazy yeah it's gotta be tough on your joints a fourth foot 0.93

00:18:20.680 that stuck out of one of his knees 16 fingers and an extra set of genitals wow running on that spare 0.99

00:18:25.940 jenny dude huh keep the lights on bro uh his condition was the result of a parasitic twin 0.83

00:18:31.780 that was attached to his body at the base of his spine wow that was too they couldn't take it off

00:18:37.900 because especially back then i'm sure that but they definitely it was too dangerous to try to remove

00:18:42.580 he would go on to work with every major circus including barnum and bailey in his act he would

00:18:46.380 kick a soccer ball ride a bike and skate yeah he'd kick it out of his third leg like hold the ball

00:18:51.120 over a football and kick it with his third leg yeah oh bro that's got to be so incredible huh

00:18:56.100 yeah imagine running and you can just kick somebody with your third leg while you're running

00:19:01.640 dude imagine you could play footsie with both with two women under the table i'd still have an extra 1.00

00:19:06.680 leg in different directions yeah and one let and one extra foot to tap to the music you're listening

00:19:11.600 to dude what a time brother his career spanned more than 40 years and he came to be known as the king

00:19:18.240 in the circus industry for his hard work and presence he married and had four children wow

00:19:22.220 yeah all the children came out fine he got a lung failure damn you'd think he got it well he got one

00:19:29.080 of his legs caught in something you know i'm saying just the odds because every now and then i almost

00:19:34.020 get one of my legs caught in something wow look at that zoom in on one of these photos please

00:19:38.940 i love the one on the right where he's got like the one in the and he's got each other foot on a stool

00:19:43.520 is that such a trip yeah it almost looks like uh no let's go to the other one that he was talking

00:19:48.680 about yeah that what you mean the black and the leather yeah wow look at those pants those pants 0.96

00:19:53.840 have to be like what the fuck are we doing he said he would buy two sets of shoes and he would give 0.94

00:19:58.920 his uh fourth shoe the extra shoe to a buddy that lost a leg oh so they all went to use oh that's 0.98

00:20:05.260 beautiful man yeah you just don't see that kind of stuff anymore that's the toughest part about stuff

00:20:09.680 um wow unbelievable look at that dude there he is there's an old man down there yeah can we get

00:20:17.440 one more picture of him frank lentini oh how wow i wonder what would it be like imagine you this had

00:20:24.320 to be such a flex so you cross your leg and then you cross the other one over

00:20:28.180 bro you must people must have thought you were jordan peterson no matter what

00:20:34.660 right that had to be so wild unbelievable what i used a picture of him on the uh back of an

00:20:43.180 allison chains album was there yeah they have a three-legged dog on the front and he's the

00:20:47.900 three-legged man on the back i think i remember that yeah it's actually their best album down in a

00:20:53.600 hole is that them yeah i'd like to fly but my wings have is all denied you know it dude that's so

00:21:03.820 incredible so this is a relative of yours yeah yeah he was um he was my dad's either great uncle or

00:21:09.400 cousin i can't remember i i tried to like really narrow it down but it's you know so long ago and

00:21:15.720 um my dad's not with us so i can't ask him anymore i'm sorry to hear that man it's all right um 23 and

00:21:24.040 me though they might not even have these kind of yeah my my brother actually started doing that

00:21:28.260 so i'm back to see with the 23 and me and like yeah he's got the ancestry going on so he's trying

00:21:33.040 to like put it all together yeah yeah so i tried to find out some more information about him through

00:21:37.340 that i know he had four kids um they were all came out normal no parasitic twins there wow so yeah

00:21:43.980 being a parasitic twin can you bring that up for me first of all i've always thought twins should

00:21:50.140 have to fight to see who when who gets to make the shots call the shots to stay alive yeah you know

00:21:58.260 that's got to be tough and i'm not saying that nobody deserves to be alive but it's just like

00:22:02.440 because it's kind of crazy when you meet one guy and then you meet and you know they're kind of just

00:22:06.800 each half of a guy or whatever and you're like what are we doing here like at least you two get

00:22:11.640 together and decide what you want to say and then come tell us you know exactly because it's a lot

00:22:16.300 of extra kind of like back and forth you know a parasitic twin is a type of conjoined twin where 0.91

00:22:21.760 one fetus stops developing but remains attached to its twin wow the other twin continues to develop

00:22:27.380 but is usually born with the limbs organs or other tissue structures from its parasitic twin still

00:22:32.740 attached it's a very rare condition gosh dude imagine two to see what is that sorry oh no that's another

00:22:40.080 child oh that's how does it uh she looks like tila tequila a little bit i can see that you don't 0.92

00:22:47.560 talk about yeah um doja cat i don't know that's doja cat dude that's bro that's fucking hilarious 0.90

00:22:56.720 dude i don't even know what doja cat looks like 0.79

00:23:00.960 oh i don't know dude no that kid has longer hair than doja cat i think yeah imagine being a parasitic 0.98

00:23:09.620 like imagine knowing that your brother or something was like a part of you and now that they're

00:23:13.680 it's almost like you got to live it's like nature like yeah but you must feel a lot there must be

00:23:18.660 like a lot of responsibility you know and then seeing your brother's wiener if you look at your 1.00

00:23:22.660 own wiener and seeing your brother's wiener does that make you gay if you jerk off that wiener 0.99

00:23:27.240 no dude it just makes you a cool brother i think 0.99

00:23:30.800 touche dude to not polish your brother off once a year or something on you know yeah that's kind of

00:23:38.340 day after christmas or whatever it's not rude i think it's just well if you don't ever let them come

00:23:42.660 yeah that is kind of rude it's uh i bet when you get to heaven he's gonna be like hey come on

00:23:49.080 god 36 years and not one nut yeah brother i left that thing down there for a reason

00:23:55.860 he took advantage of that yeah i'm the one who helped you out and gave you the third leg i gave 0.95

00:24:00.180 you a fucking job you know that's wild man um so people like frank lentini what was that group 0.98

00:24:07.260 that group was called what is freaks freaks okay they were the freak show the freak shows 1.00

00:24:11.740 and that was popular did you ever work with that um so occasionally the carnivals would have freak

00:24:18.240 shows join up with us um but they were all you know corner store freaks they weren't really great

00:24:25.800 like we had the we had the uh the ripoff of the lobster man and i actually think he was a relative

00:24:31.380 of the original lobster man but he had fake gloves that he would put on to make himself have fake

00:24:36.500 lobster hands oh really oh yeah that's not real no we had a lot of that yeah yeah so it was a lot

00:24:42.560 of yeah because they had like the freaks were like the bearded lady i remember you would hear about 1.00

00:24:47.100 um what like the four-titted sister whatever you they'd always have something you know the lispy jew 1.00

00:24:53.600 they always have something rolling the lizard man or something like that man a real life mermaid

00:24:59.140 was really one they'd have a girl in a tank with like a fake suit on acting like she was a real 1.00

00:25:03.500 mermaid yeah yeah oh yeah the four-shouldered italian they'd have that guy yeah um oh the smallest 1.00

00:25:10.580 horse i met the world's smallest horse one time we used to have that too yeah tom thumb is the one

00:25:15.120 that i met i don't know the name of the one i had we had but yeah he was at the fairs with the

00:25:20.040 agriculture he'd be they pay 50 cents and get to walk up and walk around and see and go in yeah

00:25:25.140 they had the dollar they had i remember they had one dude at the fair in our town it was like

00:25:29.580 if you gave him a dollar he would tell you if you were fat or not right yeah like guess your age or

00:25:34.920 your weight or like stuff like that but this dude i remember you give him a dollar and he'd just call 0.99

00:25:38.720 you fucking fat oh really and then you just yeah he was like the fat dollar guy or whatever 0.99

00:25:44.160 that's like what the fuck you just walk off you're like jesus christ i think he was just out there 1.00

00:25:52.280 hustling people yeah he might not even have worked with the with the carnival dude honestly that's a 1.00

00:25:55.900 new one that guy could have been working different here's a couple of them right here general tom thumb

00:26:00.720 uh charles sherwood stratton was actually a relative of pt barnum when barnum learned of stratton's

00:26:06.300 dwarfism he sensed opportunity barnum took stratton under his wing and taught him how to sing dance and

00:26:11.840 impersonate famous historical figures wow oh that was the lobster boy oh here's lobster boy right here

00:26:18.620 as shocking as his appearance is grady styles real life story is even more shocking styles condition

00:26:23.780 was known as ectrodactyl ectrodactyly i think you got it ectrodactyly which causes hands and feet to

00:26:34.240 fuse into claws yes the condition ran in styles family in fact he was the sixth generation in his

00:26:42.300 family to have it his father was already performing in the circus when grady was born so he entered 0.99

00:26:46.500 circus life early as the lobster boy wow that was his kid yeah pinching ass and taking names on that 0.98

00:26:53.520 guy wow look at him and there's a picture right there of bearded lady and lobster boy they fell in 0.96

00:26:59.960 love oh that's that's romantic a valentine's day love story huh wow i wonder what their kids would come

00:27:07.660 like huh yeah bearded lobsters yeah it'd be interesting i mean it would probably be something

00:27:13.160 yeah you'd see it like one of those fancy omakase places or whatever you know i don't think benihana

00:27:19.720 would be running that it's probably not you know get you a cut of freaking hair lobster you know it might 0.98

00:27:24.740 be who else did they have let me see a few more of them these were all the freaks right yeah lionel the 0.54

00:27:30.800 lion-faced man born steven bebrowski in 1891 poland lionel the lion-faced man endured a medical

00:27:39.920 condition known as hyper trichosis which is commonly associated with werewolf syndrome for obvious

00:27:46.840 reasons in an odd twist of fate his mother was convinced the condition was caused by her witnessing

00:27:52.720 his father being mauled by a lion when she was pregnant still that was a coincidence albeit a crazy

00:27:59.620 coincidence wow i haven't heard of him unable to handle his appearance any longer she put him up

00:28:05.580 for adoption when he was four years old oh he was adopted by a german entertainer who put him

00:28:11.520 onto the circus circuit see and he made a life for himself we still we need freak shows it's true

00:28:16.840 that way these freaks can make a living yeah they don't have and and they had i remember what was

00:28:22.180 that thing they had a dime i want to think because they almost had one in the tent a dime museum can

00:28:29.260 you look that up i thought you were talking about somebody that pays a dime dime museum and freak

00:28:34.400 shows from the popular coney island amusement park in new york city to traveling circuses and sideshows

00:28:38.860 exhibits that featured people with physical differences with some sort of the most prevalent

00:28:43.740 attractions in the 19th and early 20th centuries wow dime museums often featured humans who were

00:28:49.840 considered different for the public to view and experience yeah because i think they had some places

00:28:55.000 where you could pay a dime i guess was the name i'm assuming from 1840 until 1940 freak shows were

00:29:00.880 at their height historians typically marked 1840 as the beginning of the freak show era the museum

00:29:06.320 contained many exhibits of historic artifacts and gaffes oh that was the year pt barnum began the

00:29:11.900 american museum a new york city attraction that cost a dime to enter there it is the museum also housed

00:29:17.820 many people who were considered to be rarities worthy of exhibition wow so you'd have other

00:29:23.040 people included tom tom tom there he is a person with dwarfism the aztec twins albinos

00:29:29.880 um and many other living curiosities wow dude that's almost like a deke fraternity somewhere you know 0.91

00:29:38.440 it really is i mean it's yeah it's different but it's probably similar so you so did you ever cross

00:29:43.760 you cross paths with some of these guys but it wasn't like yeah not like like i said though the

00:29:48.860 the lobster man a boy that was with us i had heard i didn't really talk that he was a relative

00:29:53.760 of the actual lobster man but he had fake claws that he would put on and uh we actually had one of

00:29:58.500 the last living munchkin though that was out there touring with us at the freak show is one of the 1.00

00:30:03.520 dwarfs and he was on he was one of the original munchkins and smoking bongs with him he'd have to stand 0.99

00:30:09.640 up on the on a picnic table in order to like hit the bong would he yeah oh that's beautiful yeah he

00:30:14.960 was like 70 years old hitting the bong with us 70 yeah wow i think he was that old i was i was young

00:30:21.120 but i'm pretty sure he was up there and he was a little little guy yeah he was in a munchkin from

00:30:24.840 the original uh movie wow wizard of oz he was in wizard of oz yeah you smoke dope with a wizard of

00:30:30.300 oz munchkin yeah no way dude that's incredible man it was pretty wild god dang that's lucky

00:30:37.140 yeah that's crazy man because just to be able to get to do something like that yeah wow i'll watch

00:30:42.880 that movie a bunch jerry maron that was the guy he or this was one of them the last surviving adult

00:30:49.460 munchkin okay when did he die what's it say that 2016 okay yeah it was probably him because he said

00:30:55.680 he was the last one bring up a picture of this dude wow and there he is right there i was at the 0.99

00:31:03.060 carnival so he could have been bullshitting me too yeah he could have been full of shit it could 0.99

00:31:05.780 have just been a little dude trying to fucking get high yeah well he could have been a seven 1.00

00:31:09.940 year old with a cane trying to fucking fucking put a beard on him yeah somebody put a beard on him 0.99

00:31:14.680 look at jerry maron right there on wikipedia he's huffing he's got a cigar on him right there wow 0.98

00:31:19.640 oh yeah that guy that's beautiful um so so the freaks weren't as much of a part of you guys's

00:31:28.200 universe not as much no you know and now what about the rides because yeah i want to go through some

00:31:33.100 of the different stuff because by us they would have the rides would come right oh yeah the fair

00:31:37.220 would come we were excited we lived right down the street from the fairground so we walk over

00:31:42.220 there and um the day before the fair you could go and for 50 cents you could get on a ride but 0.88

00:31:48.640 they were just plugging them bitches in yeah man and you were the test subjects oh dude you would 1.00

00:31:54.000 somebody's going flying off oh the zipper we go in that dude i you ever you remember the zip 0.97

00:31:59.560 zip is my favorite ride oh bro i i'd get all my money i'd have saved up my allowance i would go

00:32:06.020 down there because the day before because if you went regular the day it was eight dollars to get 0.97

00:32:10.080 in and we're like fuck that dude you know i got two dollars i'm going in i got my quarters in my 0.99

00:32:15.280 pockets but the zipper would shake all your money out of your pocket they did that on purpose oh dude 0.99

00:32:20.760 it was horrible i get out i had no more money i had to vomit it was shake i remember it shook a couple

00:32:25.180 of my teeth like my baby teeth out or whatever like i believe it yeah you get out you had no

00:32:29.960 enamel you had no money yeah because they could really get it going when they want they know how 0.98

00:32:34.520 to run it so they could like really get you whipping around and drop it it was whole it it it was

00:32:39.580 unbelievable it literally felt like you've been putting the garbage disposal yep that was a tough

00:32:44.100 ride i loved it did you yeah it was my favorite one really yeah what was cool though when i was a kid

00:32:49.740 in school and you know you would go on field trips to the fair i don't know if you guys did that at

00:32:53.180 your school but we would take field trips to the topsfield fair when we were in grade school

00:32:56.640 but i would skip that day of school and i would just go to the carnival of the fair with my father

00:33:01.220 and uh the rides weren't open yet they kind of were only there they're supposed to be going to

00:33:05.920 the 4-h stuff and all the agricultural stuff and so i would go over and grab sneak over some of my

00:33:11.300 grab my friends from the uh from their chaperones and bring them over to the rides and the ride guys

00:33:15.240 would let us all ride the rides while they were rest of the school was at the 4-h section oh that's

00:33:19.480 nice so it was pretty cool oh yeah because you were kind of dialed in huh yeah yeah yeah i knew

00:33:24.460 everybody you know they all looked out for me i was like oh it's little mitch like i knew it because

00:33:28.220 i was running around as a little kid so everybody you know knew and it would copy a little bit of

00:33:32.060 drugs or something sometimes oh yeah yeah it was it was wild was the drug use out there a little bit

00:33:39.120 yeah yeah just a little bit and what were the drugs really what were some of it i mean weed yeah

00:33:45.320 of course weed alcohol i mean especially i mean when we were at the fairs you're open for so long

00:33:51.060 like you close at 11 at night you had to open 11 in the morning so we're crushing beers as fast as

00:33:56.440 we can once we close to get as drunk and as fucked up as fast as we can to go to sleep or just if we 0.91

00:34:02.300 could yeah just have fun and were people doing drugs too like what kind of uppers are we talking 0.99

00:34:07.260 cocaine oh yeah oh yeah yeah plenty of cocaine fuck yeah i'll tell you just to step up though they 0.97

00:34:14.640 have straightened out these days they drug test and all that shit now but bro if you drug test the 1.00

00:34:19.860 guy who's working the fair ride for me get fucked you want a good ride or not i want a real ride for 0.99

00:34:26.760 a real drug using american that's what i want yes okay dude we used to go we would get on the 0.99

00:34:33.240 gravitron right it was great we would throw so many parties and that at night bro this one guy

00:34:39.700 we get in there right and i remember like that you would get against the thing and it would like

00:34:43.860 slowly move you up the wall yeah start spinning and there was a guy in the middle who's like are you

00:34:48.880 ready to rock i'm like who the fuck is he talking to right this guy was always just in his own world 0.89

00:34:53.520 oh yeah and the thing was spinning and i swear one time this dude got his wing like was just showing 0.99

00:34:59.280 his wiener to people and he was playing a nice day for a wide wedding and you were so you couldn't

00:35:07.500 even turn your so even though you felt like you were visually being molested or whatever you couldn't

00:35:12.680 turn your head to look and see if anybody else knew what was going on so you get off and everybody

00:35:19.160 was just afraid to say i think we just seen that guy's wiener you know um to november rain you know

00:35:26.200 oh that's pretty sweet and there was some parts of it were nice when they would play some of the

00:35:30.560 ballads in there but yeah that was harrowing going in there yeah that ride's pretty crazy

00:35:35.600 sometimes the guy would get out if you got a really wild guy he would get out

00:35:39.640 and he would come because you know how they had the fence and hang on the pole

00:35:43.700 yeah dude it walked and hang and pull himself around it and go back in while the ride was running

00:35:49.300 you're like what is this guy doing yeah the dude would be walking i totally he would walk he could

00:35:53.800 even walk around yeah yeah you have to hold on to the railing but he could walk around it yeah

00:35:57.780 oh my god i forgot about that yeah he kind of was like the guy at the skating rink that kind of was

00:36:04.160 like with the shat like the dude who would go through and do the backwards skating and like skate 0.97

00:36:09.280 through your girlfriend's legs or whatever like who the fuck is this guy yeah it like kind of reminded 0.99

00:36:13.660 me of that guy you know oh here he is right here this is somebody on a gravitron there's somebody 1.00

00:36:18.400 trying to sit up on it yeah he's trying to push it up on his own yeah something

00:36:22.320 we used to like flip ourselves upside down and be upside down in there on the against the wall

00:36:29.900 yeah he could move all around oh wow yeah we didn't know we were too small to do some of this this is

00:36:36.740 like late teens oh that kid looks about ourselves yeah oh yeah he's standing straight out oh yeah

00:36:41.980 that's dude vapes oh yeah he does um yeah it was fun we used to throw a lot of after parties in

00:36:47.940 the gravitron in the gravitron yeah yeah take me through some of that like and is it men and women

00:36:52.300 come to or no depend yeah i mean we had some girls out there working for sure yeah some of the guys 0.52

00:36:57.780 were definitely better looking yeah but uh you know we had we had we had some ratchets up

00:37:03.280 i mean if you're gonna work a ride and travel the carnival and especially if it was 20 30 years ago

00:37:10.740 yeah yeah it was gotta be a tough chick you sure do and like there was some of them i mean this one 0.69

00:37:15.780 girls you know they had crazy this girl had bust a nut on me tattooed on her ankle oh yeah you know 1.00

00:37:22.120 head hoe was another one tattooed on her wow yeah these girls some of them had the lot lizards tattooed 1.00

00:37:27.700 on their feet really oh yeah so it was women that were probably just doing their best out there that 0.99

00:37:34.340 had been through a lot probably yeah i mean you got good ones too i'm not gonna lie bust a nut on me is a

00:37:39.060 lot that was that was pretty rough well i felt like it was yeah i thought it was sexual harassment

00:37:44.740 every time she walked past me i was like this is she wasn't good looking oh yeah well she's not 1.00

00:37:51.260 saying marry me you know what i'm saying like but but still that's all yeah that seems to be

00:37:57.020 yeah bust and then what do you even say now that she's married as a family what do you even adjust

00:38:03.440 those letters like like um yeah what could you change that to oh you could do us you me i think

00:38:11.700 bust if you put the b and t bust a take out the a cover that up nut take out the n and t just the u 0.65

00:38:19.660 yeah us and then it would be a blank and then it would be you just the u and then nut on me

00:38:27.580 take out the on and just me does that make any sense or not not really but it's probably still

00:38:33.980 better than bust a nut on me yeah it would be it would just say you i would say us you me yep

00:38:40.440 yeah you make it work i think it'll walk in it'll go over better yeah if you're at the grocery market

00:38:49.840 it's gonna go way better because if you're walking over by the cabbage you get some hella fresh

00:38:55.100 produce on your back you know you're like where's that from well you told me dude that's the

00:39:00.220 freshest produce they got for good semen bro yeah take me through like a good party night out there 0.91

00:39:05.900 oh well the party nights like in the gravitron yeah because they had the sound system in there 0.88

00:39:10.440 already oh yeah you know and you had the walls so you can get in there and like you know really

00:39:14.600 be able to party and get loud and not bother too many the the you know the bosses because you

00:39:20.220 know the bosses still stayed out there in their trailers too so you didn't always you didn't

00:39:23.380 want to wake them up in the middle of the night and have them come out like bars everybody get

00:39:27.280 in here bunkhouse everybody you know we open in three hours wow so yeah and what was the sleeping

00:39:33.140 quarters like so i mean be honest with you my family didn't care where i slept at that point like

00:39:38.880 i was 13 14 just sleeping wherever wow yeah mostly in games i'd sleep in the game at night one of the

00:39:44.960 games no way really yeah wow it was pretty wild yeah it was i mean i've even slept i mean wherever

00:39:53.920 sometimes especially when you're going over the road like everything's torn down you got no place

00:39:57.460 to go you're waiting for your ride like i passed out in the generator box before just waiting and what

00:40:02.260 is that just the electrical thing yeah the giant generators that run everything yeah and because

00:40:06.120 everything's packed up and that thing's always open you got a nice cozy pile of wires you can crawl up

00:40:10.540 on like a cat and pass out for a little bit yeah and it's kind of romantic almost yeah it's it's

00:40:17.560 wild i mean for the most part when you got a little older you know um yeah were there bunks so like

00:40:21.480 where did everybody sleep so they had bunks the ride guys had bunks okay so the ride operators had bunks

00:40:27.260 yeah they would put most of those guys up in bunks and were they like a trailer like what type of bunks

00:40:31.480 yeah it was just a giant trailer they would buy like they almost looked like one of the uh like an

00:40:36.820 18 wheeler trailer uh-huh and they would just turn it into uh bunk rooms they would just chop it all

00:40:41.640 up okay um some of them they had some that were built professionally as house trailers they had

00:40:46.940 those ones too and they were i mean those were it was pretty tough because it was like

00:40:51.220 bunk two bunk beds and you know you're in there with and it was tiny it was like a closet with just

00:40:56.320 two beds yeah and you know that's where they had the ride got the uh the games and the joinies were

00:41:02.480 on their own unless you know what do you mean on their own like people would sleep in sleeping

00:41:06.240 bags or people would stay at motels or what yeah wherever you could like if you made enough money

00:41:09.800 to get a motel you get a motel if you didn't you didn't you'd sleep in a tent or like there was a

00:41:14.260 at a point after i stopped staying staying in the games when i was younger i ended up bringing a couple

00:41:19.300 of my friends out on the road with me and so as soon as high school was done for the summer we'd go

00:41:24.020 out on the road until you know school started back up and so i'd probably bring a couple of friends

00:41:28.740 with me out there do ej and uh we we'd set up like our own tent city away from everybody so we could

00:41:34.680 party and not bother anybody yeah yeah we'd have a nice campfire we even brought we we used to

00:41:40.180 travel with uh a lizard with us too we always brought him with us we had a nice little cage

00:41:44.360 for him and he was our little buddy and we'd set him up yeah and we just drink we had out we had

00:41:48.680 all our tents and nice fire going and we'd party out there a couple men and a lizard bro it's like

00:41:53.160 the bible on our part you know like a whatever the new bible they'll write will be yeah the carny

00:41:57.960 bible yeah yeah it was fun man and um yeah a lot of people slept in their games so that would be it

00:42:05.700 you just crash in there and they would just pop it back open in the morning yep okay roll your

00:42:09.300 sleeping bag up put it under the counter and what were some of the other rides man do you remember

00:42:13.680 the sky master the sky master yeah or they call it the apollo sometimes it was two um yeah like two

00:42:22.680 like boats but they would go upside down so you were closed in and they swung like this they were

00:42:28.060 opposite they would swing opposite of each other and then they'd go upside down and sometimes they

00:42:31.940 would hold you up there yeah and hold you while you're upside down and you could shake it and like

00:42:36.760 shake everybody's money out of their pockets oh yeah there it is oh yeah yeah this was for the big

00:42:42.700 kids i don't think i went on this at the time yeah i used to run that sometimes so it was really easy

00:42:48.040 to tear down and set up and sometimes i would run it and you're in the dog house and you know it's

00:42:52.240 just a kind of just a remote control like a little joystick you get it going you rock it back and

00:42:56.120 forth until you get enough energy to get it up and around and you can hold it up there and you'd hold

00:43:00.940 it and you just shake it a little bit and wiggle it so it'd go back and forth a little bit and you

00:43:04.580 start shaking the money out of their pockets so it all falls down although one time there was a bad

00:43:08.800 scene bad scene because you're always supposed to wait till the end of the ride

00:43:12.100 to go pick up the money well a kid who ran it all the time was trying to be a daredevil and he ran

00:43:18.940 through to get the money while it was on while the ride was still in while he was up top ended up

00:43:24.540 getting hit oh yeah it was pretty wild he lived he lived he did live wow but it was a mess i wasn't

00:43:31.260 there at that at that carnival or fair when it happened but i was at the next one and you lose a

00:43:36.080 limb they put you just right over in a freak show now you go right to the freak show everything punts you

00:43:40.800 right or you could be in a game after that too you know because you can work a game with one arm 0.98

00:43:44.520 yeah or in a wheelchair wow so so a guy got damaged up pretty good yeah he got hit pretty good damn

00:43:51.900 it was pretty crazy is that one of the worst accidents you've ever seen out there

00:43:56.000 that was probably the worst yeah we were running that skydive at one time and the you know how you

00:44:04.300 got the shoulder bars that come down it had let go while the girl was in there but that you're caged

00:44:09.980 in still too but she was flopping around while it was going around like while she was upside down 0.81

00:44:14.000 the shoulder bars came up and she fell into the cart and like just getting just banged just getting

00:44:19.380 banged around while it was spinning around and how and how long if somebody's not doing well on a ride

00:44:23.260 can you shut it down for them does it take a few seconds yeah it'll take sometimes uh some take longer

00:44:29.620 than others to slow it out and come to a stop yeah i mean there was one the freak out i don't know if

00:44:36.280 you've heard of the freak out the freak out yeah it's a pretty dope ride now now that's my

00:44:41.340 favorite ride i'd say out of all of them let me see kind of like uh it's an arm and it's got these

00:44:46.480 other arms that come down and those spin while it goes back and forth and you get an awesome sense

00:44:52.560 of weightlessness almost like a like a roller coaster i'd say like that first drop there it is

00:44:58.240 freak out oh that's pretty cool looking yeah they didn't have the freak out oh so that so that goes

00:45:06.420 like a pendulum and spins and spins oh yeah and um dude i remember yeah we would get on that swing

00:45:15.260 one of them was like a swing set you just faced out yeah the swinger yeah and it would just then

00:45:20.640 you would just people would just be you would just people would be vomiting like people would 0.87

00:45:27.020 be like standing watching you and then literally you come around and just splash oh yeah just dose 0.99

00:45:33.000 them up with that fucking with that tummy skeet baby that vomit you gotta wash up a lot of puke on 1.00

00:45:37.940 some of those rides they get a lot of pukers we had one i don't even remember the name of the 1.00

00:45:41.480 official name of the ride but we called it the puke barrel yeah well that's what i'm saying dude 0.95

00:45:45.380 you guys were making shit yeah that was the name of it the puke barrel i was like okay i don't even 0.81

00:45:51.340 know the official name and if what what ride caused the most vomit you think the puke barrel really 0.98

00:45:56.600 probably it was uh it looked like one of those metal 55 gallon drums you know those metal like

00:46:01.880 garbage can barrels but it was huge okay yeah you know and so it was massive and say it was on its

00:46:07.920 side and you go in it had a sliding door and you go in and then there were two seats that people

00:46:13.920 could sit in circle seats and those spun like this while the floor rocked back and forth like

00:46:18.060 this and the outside barrel spun like this with strobe lights going on inside i mean who's not

00:46:24.300 gonna puke yeah it was pretty wild yeah it's good stuff so we actually owned one of those candy

00:46:31.760 on my mom and dad owned a couple of them actually would have been so they split up when i was like a

00:46:36.380 year old so they ended up i was too young to kind of help with the business so my mom sold most of

00:46:42.600 the rides by the time i was you know a teenager or so we still had some stuff kitty rides and stuff

00:46:48.160 but we had gotten rid of all she had gotten rid of all the major rides that she had had yeah bring 1.00

00:46:53.120 that video up you're gonna show us

00:46:54.320 and now what do you do when something what is this what is this here oh that looks like the

00:47:01.880 we call them the thousand and one nights i'm not sure what this version's called but that's what it was

00:47:06.640 okay yeah it looks like the whole thing is shaking so people are going and jumping on the side to

00:47:11.760 like hold it down hold it yeah

00:47:13.780 yeah oh yeah a carnival ride in traverse city michigan suddenly malfunctioned what do you do

00:47:20.920 when this kind of thing happens what do y'all do shut it the f down but how do you i mean people

00:47:27.660 are trying to save this thing from falling over yeah they're all trying to get some weight on it

00:47:31.480 is that a realistic approach you think is that safe or would you tell the people i mean it could

00:47:36.260 be oh because that was one of the things about the carnival you always felt like nobody had your

00:47:46.180 back in a way yeah which was something exciting about it and deathly alarming like and you felt like if

00:47:54.040 you died they wouldn't tell your parents yeah it could i mean we probably buried some bodies out

00:48:00.580 back i mean in the haunted house probably some of those bodies in there probably kids that just never

00:48:05.440 made it out yeah but i'll be honest with you though the carnival rides are a lot safer than

00:48:11.920 probably a music parks amusement parks really yeah because they get inspected every week so you're

00:48:17.500 getting state inspectors every single week every time you set up they have to come in and like

00:48:21.460 and uh you know give it a go ahead so what's the worst accident you've ever seen out there

00:48:27.020 so that was i mean i didn't see the kid get hit by the skymaster but that was probably the worst

00:48:32.840 although at one fair that i was at at topsfield fair i forget the name of the ride but somebody did

00:48:39.900 come flying out of it but they didn't die or i can i wish i could remember the ride but they always

00:48:47.160 say those people didn't die but you never see those people anymore yeah that's true you know

00:48:53.120 or like they'll be like yeah they yeah janet didn't die and they're like well then why isn't yeah

00:48:57.860 where is she yeah oh she went to florida she retired yeah people yeah if she retired she's 11

00:49:03.440 yeah where did she so that's just the thing i think sometimes about that kind of stuff that seems

00:49:10.980 like a little bit tricky man where you're like i was saying they um like i did they uh they do

00:49:15.680 inspect them a lot more than like your your regular music parks i mean that are just set up

00:49:20.740 year round they only got like one or two inspections a year oh yeah and so but the carnival like they have

00:49:25.940 to get state inspected every week every time you set up in a new place so okay wow i didn't i did not

00:49:33.000 expect that yeah because it seems like they're not even you know where the shady part comes in

00:49:39.560 is where like say something breaks or something happens during the week and then it gets fixed

00:49:44.860 not up to par in between inspections in between inspections oh and you just got to have the ride

00:49:50.920 you got to have it going you got to make the money yeah and then so you have you have your main ride

00:49:57.020 guys so all the ride formants have to do a once inspection every day and they have to fill out a

00:50:02.300 and say they inspected their ride i mean but yeah and then you have the ride super who's in charge of

00:50:10.500 all those guys and is he yeah but it's like how lot how real how if they're locked in cool if they're

00:50:16.300 not then it's whatever yeah yeah i could be a ride yeah if i was a ride super dude you're like yeah okay

00:50:22.520 you just take the forms you're like yep everything's fine yeah oh you know yeah people ain't gonna be

00:50:27.160 everybody not gonna be living if i'm a ride super to be honest and no offense to anybody

00:50:34.300 okay so you got the rides i'm trying to think of the other rides there were uh there was some um

00:50:39.580 there was like you know what we used to do too on the remember the super slide

00:50:43.280 yeah super slide was pretty fun with that burlap sack yeah you know when it's really fun during the

00:50:48.880 rainstorm and you get a black trash bag really oh yeah you don't even touch that bottom hill

00:50:54.200 you know just launched off oh that's awesome you gotta open up the fence at the bottom of the

00:50:59.820 ride because i've seen people oh hit that fence so hard oh yeah go right under it hit it hard just

00:51:07.320 get scalped on the way oh yeah they got that fishnet face for the rest of their life oh yeah i've seen

00:51:12.400 oh yeah there's nothing like just yeah really after hours you know getting drunk going down sometimes

00:51:17.080 we would just wet it on our own we'd get a hose and soak the slide and grab a trash bag yeah that sounds

00:51:22.720 like fun dude would you guys have some fun like that like was there oh yeah i mean there was one

00:51:26.560 crazy party we were we were um we're all partying it was like the beginning of the year it was like

00:51:30.900 the second or third carnival so we were all like warmed up now we're like all right let's have this

00:51:35.280 is one because you'd have parties where everybody would party together like the ride guys everybody

00:51:40.360 food joints even some of the owners you know what i mean some of the parties once in a while

00:51:44.360 and so this was like a beginning of the year like let's get you know let's have a welcome home

00:51:49.940 party everybody's in and so we're partying all throughout the carnival like we're on the sea

00:51:53.840 dragon and you can unlock the sea dragon and get it swinging manually you just get a couple kids

00:51:58.080 on each side swinging it one way and you just really and you can get it going and so we were

00:52:02.160 partying yeah we were partying up on the sea dragon late one night and uh there was a new guy

00:52:07.040 that i guess the ride super didn't like he had just started oh yeah and uh he passed out drunk in

00:52:13.060 his car and he was driving like this brand new white escort or something like that you know nice and

00:52:17.300 white pretty nice yeah but it was small car cheap car but it was it was new and uh the ride super

00:52:22.560 really didn't like him and he was passed out drunk in his car right on the side of this on the sea

00:52:27.080 dragon and we're up in the top seat just sitting up there having a couple drinks putting them back

00:52:31.200 and what do they do they set them on fire all of us well not quite all of a sudden the ride super

00:52:34.700 goes over to his house trailer and he opens up his he gets a five gallon bucket yeah and he opens up 0.99

00:52:39.060 his shitter drain his tank and he fills up the five gallon bucket with all the shit water 0.99

00:52:43.200 and he goes over and he dumps it on the guy's car oh and nothing the guy doesn't wake up nothing so 1.00

00:52:49.440 he keeps doing it over and over again until he dumped his his whole tank onto this dude's car

00:52:54.300 and he just slept through the night like that all day and we're laughing hysterically about this but

00:52:59.540 it's outside of the car right it's outside of the car it's on his car but on the outside so it's just

00:53:03.720 covered now and yeah just everything and uh but that night i didn't see him but the next spot i remember

00:53:11.680 i'm walking by and he's outside and it's he's trying to scrub it all off and it's just got this

00:53:16.740 brown tint and you could see where it like swirled all around like he could not get that thing clean

00:53:21.620 for the life of him he didn't last another week he didn't no was there a lot of stuff like that

00:53:27.380 there's a lot of like uh um hazing and stuff oh yeah yeah oh yeah yeah and what about um take me

00:53:36.600 into so i feel like that's kind of the rides i'm trying to think of any more of the rides that i

00:53:41.000 the zipper was just harrowing i know i would get on it and i'll be like i'm not getting on it this

00:53:47.540 year because last year i got hurt and i don't have any more money or whatever and i got electrocuted

00:53:53.380 and so electrocuted oh dude i got electrocuted because that was one of the big things is one time

00:53:58.660 i got off of i think it probably was the zipper i got off and i touched i've told this story before

00:54:04.740 i've touched the two like metal bars you're getting off of like the stair bars whatever

00:54:09.900 and it completed a circuit and i just bro got lit and i couldn't let go right and some guy working

00:54:16.560 the ride behind me um it was a black gentleman he called me he's like get moving and i i was like 0.92

00:54:24.920 and then he just fucking kicked me right in the back dude i think he even called me the n-word but i 0.97

00:54:32.580 think he kicked me in the back and thank god he did yeah because i was just like part of this i was 0.98

00:54:37.880 just completing the circuit i was just probably powering a fucking lantern or something down the 0.91

00:54:42.520 street yeah yeah whatever i was doing dude it was unhealthy for me yeah you know because i was 0.57

00:54:47.740 conducting electricity and um thank god but yeah i just remember be it was very

00:54:53.580 very it seemed like um there were some safety issues i would say yeah yeah it sounds like it

00:55:01.540 yeah we i've definitely run into a few live rides before yeah especially during oh has that happened

00:55:05.940 yeah what's happened to me okay yeah so that's a real thing yep because i know my whole life i was

00:55:12.140 like i know this happened man well how does that happen um because there's so much wiring going on in

00:55:18.780 those things like all the lights and everywhere and back then too you know now with leds they don't

00:55:23.680 take as much but back then you had those really hot lights and they took a lot more power and so you

00:55:27.800 got bigger currents running through and something could just get cut or pinched somewhere along the

00:55:32.480 line and next thing you know you're making that live damn god yeah that thing really caught me up to 0.94

00:55:39.720 speed boy i fucking aged probably eight months i went home my mother's like god you seem different 0.99

00:55:46.120 you know hey ma you already grew a mustache from it yeah i was like things are gonna change around 0.95

00:55:51.980 here yeah i'm wearing the pants now but i remember that dude we walk over and yeah the rides would

00:55:59.100 just be getting set up in the distance and we'd come in and they'd they'd have somebody standing

00:56:04.760 over there and for 50 cents you could get over there and get you a couple tickets and go get on

00:56:09.260 them yeah and no the other kids people didn't know because the fair wasn't open yeah but we knew this

00:56:14.640 could we live right there and so we'd all walk over there that's cool i don't we never did anything

00:56:18.840 like that it was pretty cool man what about so take me into some of the games we hope you're enjoying

00:56:24.160 your air canada flight rocky's vacation here we come whoa is this economy free beer wine and snacks

00:56:32.280 sweet fast free wi-fi means i can make dinner reservations before we land and with live tv i'm not

00:56:39.640 missing the game it's kind of like i'm already on vacation nice on behalf of their canada nice

00:56:47.300 travels wi-fi available to airplane members on equipped flights sponsored by bell conditions

00:56:51.440 apply see your canada.com yeah the games the games are fun let's get into something interesting

00:56:56.120 because you had the boost you had the game boost yeah we had game boost we own some uh my brother

00:57:00.640 still has i i think he still has one or two you know they're definitely not as profitable as they used

00:57:06.020 to be yeah um but yeah i used to have all kinds of games i mean a lot of them are illegal now you

00:57:12.580 know maybe i should throw in yeah maybe i should throw on some like shades or something if i want

00:57:16.320 to spill secrets like the magician telling the secrets of the about the games yeah if you want to put some

00:57:21.560 on no i'm just kidding they all know who i am now anyway oh yeah well i yeah because i know there

00:57:26.220 was videos that came out years ago about like exposing all the games or whatever really i didn't like that

00:57:31.200 shit i knew that you pretty much weren't gonna win no there's something that you are not gonna win 0.82

00:57:39.000 unless they want you to win ah if you if they got if they got enough money out of you and they got a 0.95

00:57:44.620 good tip going there's a big crowd if you're in a wheelchair or something probably if you're maybe

00:57:49.520 it all depends on how much money you spent yeah and then like if they got a nice crowd and they want

00:57:54.340 to keep that and a lot of like if the crowd is really like they've been there a while and they

00:57:59.560 really want to see that dude win and he spent enough money and you know you could get now you

00:58:03.480 can if that dude wins everybody's gonna stop playing yeah you know ah so the part of it is

00:58:08.520 some strategy yeah well there's a lot of strategy to it what was one of the games that was the

00:58:12.400 toughest game to win probably you think the toughest to win like legitimately well so there's some that

00:58:20.460 just can't be won okay so okay so take me like what is one of them so like the cover the red spot

00:58:26.640 you guys ever have that one cover the red so there would be yeah there'd be a big red circle

00:58:33.020 yeah and you get like little discs this yeah yeah could not be won legally oh there would be one

00:58:39.860 that could be won on that the guy would show you how to do it on because that one can be won okay

00:58:45.080 and he would always use that one and i've worked that game before so i don't know how it's done

00:58:49.160 and then you have all the other ones the circles are just slightly too big to be completely covered

00:58:56.060 oh so the base circle yep there it is ah cover the spot okay so you see how that one's covered all

00:59:03.660 down there with the five discs it's completely covered so sometimes those red circles are just

00:59:09.200 slightly too big where it's mathematically impossible to cover it all dude the saddest part i just remembered

00:59:17.460 this so my brother he was like the older brother you know and like he like was trying to win a game

00:59:22.540 and i knew we didn't have much money you know so like he kept trying to win and like i knew it started 0.95

00:59:28.800 to be a little bit thing like i gotta win this my brother's watching me you know and he fucking didn't 0.98

00:59:33.420 win and i could feel it just break his fucking heart oh man i have seen god so many hearts broken 0.98

00:59:39.300 really oh my god i've seen families broken up oh i mean they've spent their whole mortgage lost a car 0.99

00:59:45.740 like lost everything yeah he even traded that kid in like trying to win i swear to god

00:59:50.980 sometimes you'll see the kids still up there as a prize now you can win them

00:59:54.660 yeah you guys want you guys want this uh stuffed bunny with a cleft palate or you want ricky

01:00:06.500 and they're like nah nah we got a real life ginger over here we gotta feed ricky man we'll take that 0.97

01:00:12.780 we'll take that uh hoppy the cleft palate fucking easter hero over there it's if you get a gambler 0.96

01:00:19.480 playing you know somebody that gambles they know what's up no you they lose everything because they 0.97

01:00:24.500 want to win they want to win and then you tell them hey man if you win not only will you get the prize

01:00:30.260 but i'll give you your all your money back oh every dollar you spent i will give it back 1.00

01:00:35.780 if you win want to play again fuck 1.00

01:00:39.700 and now a gambler is not going to say no and how hard is it have you ever had to run somebody up like 0.99

01:00:46.780 that i kind of have by the time those games are kind of i mean i ran the red spot and stuff but i

01:00:52.260 was a kid i was still a teenager then so i wasn't a real agent you know but were there some people they

01:00:57.400 were good at oh man they were so good like when i was a real little kid and before i was working i

01:01:02.520 would you know sit on the counters with some of these guys you know when yeah they're not busy

01:01:06.680 and i'd sit down and hang out but then all of a sudden a mark would walk by and they'd get them

01:01:09.740 and i would just see them run them up because like you pay your bills right yeah like you pay your bills

01:01:14.860 every month yeah yeah so just don't worry about paying me up front just keep playing i'll tell you

01:01:20.400 how much you owe at the end oh yeah what do you think is the most you ever seen somebody lose on a

01:01:25.440 carnival game i've seen somebody lose a car like legit had to give up their car no yeah who who's

01:01:32.760 gonna enforce it though well because they're a gamble they're like most most gamblers pay that

01:01:38.480 like if they have it they'll pay their debt so they'll go get they'll go get the title and sign

01:01:42.800 it over right there to keep playing really yeah i mean you ever been to a casino like some of these

01:01:50.580 guys some of these gamblers are like they lose everything amazed at somebody yeah i have friends

01:01:55.960 that are uh real successful and i'm amazed at some of these guys that just go gamble all the time i

01:02:02.420 don't i'm so thankful i don't get any uh like i like to play you know i'll play some games you know

01:02:10.120 i like to do yeah we play prize picks and stuff like that and but i don't i'm not the guy that's

01:02:17.160 betting betting the house yeah yeah no i'm so great man i'm thankful to god that i don't have that

01:02:22.780 i've seen i've seen people like eventually like they'll go home and they're like i just got hustled

01:02:29.160 and then they'll end up like going to the cops or something like that and coming down the next day

01:02:32.860 and you got to squash the beef and make everybody happy like i've seen that happen new hampshire man

01:02:38.640 loses life savings on carnival game let's look at it i probably saw that epsom new hampshire 0.97

01:02:43.520 from the salts i guess um henry gribom says he lost his life savings 2600 dollars damn 0.86

01:02:52.460 on a life savings carnival game and all he has to show for it is a stuffed banana with dreadlocks 0.89

01:02:57.920 wow you got the dreaded one though dude blm bro that's all i'm saying dude yeah at least you got

01:03:04.020 the dreaded banana dude wow yeah it's it was crazy those games are illegal now though up there

01:03:11.680 well it says you're expecting the kids to win a few things let the kids have a good time say grip

01:03:15.220 home i just didn't turn it just didn't turn out that way grip home says he attended a manchester

01:03:19.160 carnival run by new hampshire based fiesta shows you mentioned them that's us it is that's who we

01:03:24.360 worked for wow and wanted to win an xbox connect at a game called tubs of fun yeah i'll tell you

01:03:30.460 about that one where contestants toss balls into a tub ain't happening it isn't what is it so the

01:03:36.480 bushel basket that's what it is the tubs of fun so they take those remember those old apple bushel

01:03:40.320 baskets oh yes i remember they'd be up on the side yeah like at an angle kind of yeah at an angle

01:03:44.940 kind and you got to toss the softball in there yes yes there it is oh there's some guys getting it

01:03:51.560 right here yeah yeah so there's a there's a trick to it do you see how he's doing it you got to give

01:04:01.240 it a spin and it's got to hit right on the edge i see so it'll like it'll kind of like use its

01:04:06.620 momentum to stay in there and they're using plastic ones too they i don't know right go back to the

01:04:10.900 bushel baskets can you find the bushel baskets they might be just as hard the one we're talking

01:04:14.580 about it's the same game but the bush those were made of the wooden ones like the original apple

01:04:19.320 bushel baskets yeah so take me through it so what the problem they were at like an angle right it's

01:04:24.460 that same same same thing as that with the plastic ones except they were wooden um they just won't

01:04:30.280 stay in there the softball is so light and bouncy and the back of those baskets are just so bouncy as

01:04:35.420 well that they would just bounce out you can't get the ball to stay in there it's it's really i mean

01:04:41.920 if you know a trick and you like they were doing if you could get the right back spin on it

01:04:46.260 and hit it right at the edge you can get it to stay in there but how they get people so easily

01:04:51.340 is they'll the guy sitting in the in the booth can easily toss the ball in there from his angle

01:04:57.680 it'll easily go in there and stay in there and then you give the other ball to the guy and be like

01:05:01.620 look at how easy it is throw the ball in there and give him a free here's a free shot see how easy

01:05:05.860 it is and then they throw it in there because that other ball is already in the basket it'll dead in 0.63

01:05:09.900 that second ball and that second ball will stay in so now people like oh my god that was so easy

01:05:15.360 but now when you give them the balls they don't have that first ball in there and they won't get

01:05:20.200 that ball to stay in there wow and you're like no it's like this this you know what you're doing

01:05:25.640 wrong bud you're hitting it in the wrong place watch what i do watch what i do you take that ball

01:05:30.340 and you're like just like this throw it in there and it goes in and you're like here's this ball watch

01:05:34.560 try it now and they do it and they're like oh i did it you're right and then you give them both

01:05:38.980 balls again and then they can never do it again and you just keep it going keep the cycle going

01:05:42.680 dude i remember the weird there was always the weirdest energy when you were the kid and you

01:05:47.260 were up there at the thing you just once you'd engage in the conversation with the booth guy if

01:05:51.780 you're a kid you're like you start to feel like man i gotta play now i already started talking to this

01:05:57.540 guy you know i know only got a couple of bucks here what am i gonna do you know and then you would 0.99

01:06:04.120 play and then you would fucking miss the first one you'd be like i am such a fucking 0.99

01:06:08.580 loser yeah i am a loser and they know you're not going to win too and they're just trying to get 0.99

01:06:14.000 that two bucks out of you and get you out of the get you out of the hair god that was hard and i'll 1.00

01:06:19.800 tell you what if eric adams was there he would have found out that there wasn't an xbox in that box

01:06:25.020 yeah oh oh so you're saying that if they have the prizes some of the prizes aren't even in the boxes

01:06:32.220 no wow oh yeah because they know nobody can win it so why you're not even going to put a real 0.95

01:06:36.200 probably they just put playstation boxes and xboxes i mean damn dude in the craziest adams 0.86

01:06:41.920 will probably find the yayo that time in there but 0.88

01:06:44.000 what's in here and mitch is talking about the episode with um who are we with shane gillis

01:06:51.640 and we're like that yeah yeah that's just that was so funny dude yeah that was a crazy video i

01:06:56.740 can't believe they're doing the drug searches like that but yeah oh but sometimes we would win

01:07:01.420 something and it would be a felt elvis or a felt picture of a something oh i remember those felt

01:07:08.460 pictures remember it's like it was like neon and felt yeah some of it would be felt like not all of

01:07:13.300 it yeah if you had a black light or something it would look like you'd be able to see it oh and the

01:07:16.820 posters they had those felt posters that's what it was yeah yeah yeah um yeah i remember those

01:07:22.540 i forgot about those yeah the start art games like the the ones that you throw the dart at oh that

01:07:27.380 was fun with the balloons yeah the balloons are a hostile though too it is oh yeah because they

01:07:31.620 don't always have like because oh because you'd have a dot behind it or something you had to have

01:07:35.020 um they'd have different um circles under there and they'd say small medium large like what size

01:07:40.660 prize you win and you know they would never have an extra large up under there or if they did it

01:07:45.580 would be under like a really like barely blown up balloon so that dart would always bounce

01:07:49.300 god because i based how i felt about myself for the rest of the year on how well i did on these

01:07:57.200 games that was the that was the thing yeah even the start art game like if you didn't get that dart

01:08:03.620 right in the red star dart yeah that's what we called it the start art where it was like you had

01:08:07.840 to throw a dart get it in the red and it couldn't touch the border around it it would be a black border

01:08:12.300 around the red star and if it touched any part of the the dart was touching the black just a little

01:08:17.340 bit you didn't win oh and the thing was if you'd think it would be in there completely you know

01:08:22.020 you're on the ground you hit it and you're like oh did that go in and the person working the game

01:08:25.520 would go up and look and if it was all the way in but it was close he would just touch it a little

01:08:30.060 bit and push the dart so it would touch the black no oh yeah yeah i don't you just have to do it nice

01:08:36.380 and smooth so you just you know you just barely push the dart up a little bit so it'll start touching

01:08:40.500 the border and be like oh you're so close bud come on up and take a look you'll see it's touching the black 0.92

01:08:45.320 i don't even remember that one star dart i remember they had the water horse but that

01:08:50.280 was a competition against other people so somebody always won yeah i mean there are ones that are

01:08:54.580 slower than others yeah naturally like the games like you could hit them both at the same time

01:08:58.740 and one just rises a lot slower than the other one or blows up the other one i remember yeah once 0.96

01:09:04.000 sometimes it didn't even make any sense i remember one time it was like ring the fucking fish and they 1.00

01:09:07.520 had fish swimming and you just throw the fucking rings in there get a fish you didn't get shit you're 0.99

01:09:13.440 like how do you even know if you got it like i was like you lost you're like oh fuck dude i'm a 1.00

01:09:19.500 loser man 12 more months of winter it's like punctatum phil just seeing your fucking reality 0.99

01:09:25.000 each year when i went it was like god i forgot how much yeah i based my like who i was off of that man 0.99

01:09:32.960 and just like because i'd i would save my money each you know i was very particular about saving my money

01:09:38.460 so when we go down there i'd have a you know i'd plan ahead and i would get my little i would keep

01:09:44.720 my money in like one of those gym beam those purple gym beam bags yeah you remember the oh yeah with

01:09:49.640 the drawstring yeah oh yeah i'll keep my money yeah the crown royal bag sorry the crown royal bag

01:09:54.940 and i bring it down there and god dude this felt horrible ring toss that was one now that was fun i

01:10:02.600 will say this because you know why because you got a bunch of rings yeah and they can't lie to you

01:10:06.260 you're either getting it on the bodily or not like that's a legitimate game that those are still

01:10:09.980 around right that was a lot of fun i remember um those ones are a hustle oh yeah the weighted

01:10:15.940 yeah the weighted everybody knows that now but and this is we're looking at the weighted uh milk

01:10:20.800 bottles yep and the softballs yeah what was so hard about it just they're weighted they're not

01:10:26.360 going to knock over with the um softball because you'd fill them with you'd fill them with lead or

01:10:30.860 cement or whatever and the top one would be empty so if people said oh they're weighted you would

01:10:35.760 just grab the empty one and hand it to them and be like oh look at dude they're not weighted

01:10:38.760 oh wow that's pretty crazy the bushel basket that was another one that was a hustle what was that

01:10:46.780 i mean not the bushel the banker ball wait you remember the banker ball the it was like um there

01:10:52.600 was a wooden backdrop back uh-huh and there was like a laundry basket underneath and you had to like

01:10:57.940 throw the ball against the back and make it hit into the basket yes yep

01:11:01.140 yes i remember that so some of them were so confusing to me i didn't play them you would

01:11:08.180 just push that basket in so it would never do it so it would never do it so it'd never drop in

01:11:13.120 where did y'all keep the fish at night who was with all the fish we had a fish lady no way you 1.00

01:11:18.800 had a fish lady not the girl that ran the rides like i never worked a fish game or like we didn't 0.56

01:11:23.480 own one but i knew the girls that ran it and yeah they just had a trailer that was full of 1.00

01:11:26.900 five gallon drums full of fish and they'd bag them up wow because that was the craziest part

01:11:33.640 because you'd fucking get home and you'd have a fish you know yeah you're like look at this fish 0.99

01:11:37.340 yeah and your neighbor would be like we're gonna cook them bitches you know and you just have your 1.00

01:11:41.860 neighbor go cook six six of those goldfish or baby koi they called them goldfish get pretty big if you 0.92

01:11:47.740 let them if you just let them go yeah i've seen some really big ones my sister won a goldfish once and

01:11:52.560 they put it in their fish tank or whatever and it grew into like a big fish carp or whatever yeah

01:11:58.140 i didn't realize how big they got it it couldn't even turn around the tank they got for it was so

01:12:02.880 small the fish couldn't even fucking turn around it was just like it would just always be straight 0.91

01:12:07.100 ahead look at this dude right there crazy one of the world's biggest goldfish has been caught 0.62

01:12:13.180 weighing in at 67 pounds four ounces the enormous specimen was found in a fishery in france by british

01:12:22.000 angler andy hackett who reportedly spent over 25 minutes reeling the fish in can you imagine 0.86

01:12:28.240 reeling that in and being like what in the fuck what did i just catch i thought these were 0.66

01:12:36.760 two wins bro and if we're not this right here because to tell you if you don't think there's 0.99

01:12:45.080 stuff in the water that is turning your kids trans or multi-armed or whatever 0.96

01:12:51.780 then this is a fucking fair goldfish yeah this is a parking lot uh minnow half of them probably 0.99

01:13:01.840 spray painted gold yeah that was supposed to die right when you got home yep if you made it that far 0.99

01:13:07.900 yeah that's the etd on these things the second you cross your doorstep they're supposed to die

01:13:13.280 it's how most kids learn about death is from a fair goldfish but here we are modern day

01:13:21.040 and this mother 67 pounds and living in france unbelievable probably working at a creperie or 1.00

01:13:31.500 something chocolate it's just unfuck and people are like the water's safe the water ain't fucking 0.99

01:13:38.760 safe bro god i'm sorry to get crazy but this shit dude it's like how much proof do you need 0.99

01:13:45.720 it's in your face that the water's bad yeah i mean that is uh that thing could work in the freak show 1.00

01:13:53.940 yeah i'd pay 50 cents to go see that oh you staple another little cock to that thing i think 1.00

01:14:00.260 like a fucking it'll do 11 years in a freak bowl work over there and and nipsy's freak bowl or 1.00

01:14:07.760 whatever it's called when you're a dreaded banana son um alive alive alive but some of the gay yeah 0.99

01:14:16.160 i remember some of the people that worked like some of the one lady i remember for she we gave her 50 1.00

01:14:22.680 cents she we she was we were just scratching her back while she was smoking a joint or whatever oh nice 1.00

01:14:28.040 and we're and then she's like i'm all done and we're like what the fuck is that did you get the 0.94

01:14:32.000 roach we didn't get anything we didn't we might have got a little like contact yeah yeah that's 0.98

01:14:37.820 what she that's what you were paying for but yeah i remember we gave that lady like a couple of us 1.00

01:14:41.520 it was like three of us scratching her back at the same time we didn't even know her i was like dan 0.88

01:14:45.640 this bitch is wild but it's kind of cool yeah that sounds like she would work she'd she'd be good 1.00

01:14:50.960 in the dunk tank man those dunk tank clowns were something else man yeah what so yeah take me on some of 0.99

01:14:55.660 the other periphery characters that were part of the carnival yeah the dunk tank clown guy was he

01:15:01.200 was i mean you have to have a really special guy to be updated really like be able to like go at

01:15:07.300 people all day get them pissed off enough to like spend their life savings trying to knock you into a

01:15:12.900 pool of water like what kind of stuff is he saying he's just saying like i slept with your wife last

01:15:17.120 night like you know your brother's an n-word or whatever yeah you know and he would have to get

01:15:22.360 why sometimes he would have to have cops protect him when he closed like to walk him to his you 0.99

01:15:26.540 know get him off the lot because people wanted to kick his ass i mean i've seen people you know beat 0.98

01:15:31.460 him like not beat him up but go after him if they're what if he didn't have protection you know because 0.99

01:15:35.760 not all the time you know at the fairs you had cops around but you wouldn't always have cops at the

01:15:39.880 carnivals and stuff and he would really get people going like they're not even trying to dunk him

01:15:43.560 they're trying to throw the ball through the fence like they're smashing that fence with the ball 0.91

01:15:46.940 really oh yeah so that guy had to have some real cojones or just be not even mentally that great 1.00

01:15:53.580 or whatever yeah wow it was wild he would uh yeah they would he would get into some serious shit 0.99

01:15:59.940 yeah a lot of beefs you don't see him anymore what were they yeah so they were just like yeah 0.97

01:16:04.960 yeah i was with your sister's mother last night oh i was with your daughter last night you know what i

01:16:10.880 mean with your daughter and the guy's saying his daughter's 11 or whatever they don't care that's

01:16:14.880 what i'm saying these guys would get mad the dude's just yelling like i slept with your 11

01:16:19.960 year old daughter last night what are you gonna do about it yeah the dude's just like hey i'm a 0.98

01:16:25.900 pedophologist he thinks he's protected by fucking 40 gallons of water this dude's just like walking 0.97

01:16:29.840 by with his kid doesn't even know all of a sudden the guy's like what what did you say yeah god it's 0.98

01:16:35.060 just heartbroken dude oh it's a sick world man yeah who else was there they were like barkers i remember

01:16:42.460 like oh there was the guess your weight guy yeah i guess you were a real thing that was a real

01:16:47.240 thing yeah he would guess your weight or your birth date or um what else would he guess there

01:16:51.360 was something else how did they do it it was just a it was really just came down in numbers like they

01:16:57.760 couldn't really do it but it was you could tell like they just got good at it you could tell look

01:17:02.900 at somebody because there was that you had you had an average you know what i mean you could be off

01:17:06.520 by like 10 pounds or whatever it was you know five pounds either way or when they guess your

01:17:11.340 birthday they could be like i don't know if it had to be like the same month i know there was like a

01:17:17.100 window where it wasn't the exact date but i think it might have been if it was in that sign you know

01:17:21.500 what i mean oh yeah if they're sagittarius's i'll know dude exactly or a leo or something you could 0.62

01:17:25.740 tell one of my ex-girlfriends was a sagittarius and i'll spot them bitches anywhere now you know i'll spot 1.00

01:17:32.080 i'm 200 yards away you gotta saggy on the fucking coming over the ridge watch out um we had some 0.99

01:17:39.000 characters man i remember the guy that worked the uh the big old guy that worked the diner the 0.98

01:17:43.180 sausage stand when i was a kid i mean this is when smoking was still loud he'd have a big old cigar in 0.98

01:17:47.200 his mouth italian dude it's like what what do you fucking kids want huh fucking ashes are falling into 0.99

01:17:53.980 the pile of onions and peppers right there big old cigar just always hanging over his mouth while he's 1.00

01:17:58.160 working the grill those were the best onions too you were like you know get them riled up until you

01:18:03.260 get the ash in there you know what i mean you want that ash yeah a little free burnt wince gotta be

01:18:07.620 careful on the first day of the carnival though maybe sometimes if they brought like some sometimes

01:18:12.480 they'd bring the leftovers from the last carnival and try to sell it oh yeah it's like that's a good

01:18:17.980 point right yeah so because the carnival ends on a sunday yep and then it starts back on a thursday

01:18:23.380 um sometimes a wednesday sometimes we do overnighters where you would tear down sunday night

01:18:29.100 set up sunday night and then open monday yeah it's like tearing out so they'd close you a little early

01:18:35.120 like five or six o'clock on a sunday night then you got to tear down drive to the next location start

01:18:39.900 setting up and then open up that night so what other periphery people do y'all use do you guys hire

01:18:45.780 other locals you said there were like 40 milers like guys that would come on yes you're i mean they're

01:18:50.300 always looking for help i mean it was kind of set up back then you had like the main carnival owner

01:18:54.920 that owned like like say fiesta shows he owned all the rides mostly and um sometimes some of the games

01:19:01.480 and food but you would have other families that owned like you know they had a whole grip of you

01:19:07.140 know games or a whole bunch of food stands and you would and with the games there was a lot of

01:19:12.380 families that owned a bunch of different games and they would join up with the carnival and you would

01:19:16.760 tour with that carnival for the year okay so it was a lot of like smaller family businesses would

01:19:21.480 join up under the larger umbrella of the carnival yeah oh i see so there was a lot of that and so

01:19:27.920 a lot of that's gone by the wayside now like they start buying up other carnival businesses then they

01:19:33.980 start buying their own games and food and hiring people to run them for them instead of like you

01:19:38.460 know having people come in rent and everything yep so it's some larger conglomerates now you think

01:19:43.520 yeah wow yeah i know like fiesta definitely bought a bunch out and that's how they got so big in new

01:19:49.320 england and um yeah started like we own some stuff my family still does my brother still owns stuff out

01:19:57.060 out there and does it but then he also manages stuff for the owner of fiesta shows okay so that gets him

01:20:03.720 like good locations you know what i mean and like prime spots and stuff was there a lot of camaraderie

01:20:08.960 amongst you guys was there a lot of party and what was that like like what was some of the lifestyle

01:20:12.840 like yeah so we had some camaraderie like definitely like the ride guys like they would all have their

01:20:18.200 own crews especially like some of the bigger rides had like four five six guys as a crew if they were

01:20:24.580 like there would be different crews you'd have the music fest and like the sea dragon crew they

01:20:28.460 called themselves the dickhead crew and you'd have these different crews and so they had a really

01:20:33.140 tight-knit and then like the ride guys on a whole mostly did the food guys too would and then you

01:20:39.780 know the different families obviously with with the people that worked for that family were pretty

01:20:43.560 tight-knit and then you know yeah at night you know whoever whoever you clicked with you know what

01:20:49.160 i mean and i clicked with everybody i would party with anybody from like the lowest ride guy to like

01:20:53.940 the the owners oh you know were you a pretty hard partier or not yeah man real hard yeah pretty hard

01:21:00.420 yeah by the time i hit 21 i was already shitting and puking blood for drinking so much no way oh 0.93

01:21:04.940 yeah jesus yeah it was pretty wild well did that run in your family alcoholism or drinking that much

01:21:11.060 um because that's kind of a lot of drinking yeah it's all i really like i didn't grow my dad like my

01:21:17.800 dad my mom and dad got divorced when i was a year old and so you know i had one foot in the carnival

01:21:23.420 and another one in the city i grew up in like a pretty inner city city like you know in new york

01:21:29.860 no outside of boston called lawrence lawrence massachusetts yeah lawrence massachusetts wow

01:21:34.180 so it was like a lot of gang activity and stuff there oh yeah that's fun so and like the carnival

01:21:40.660 was like my escape in the summer yeah which isn't much of it so it's like the carnival of the hood

01:21:44.820 like which one do you want yeah and uh i am and um so yeah i drank a lot partied hard and would the 0.60

01:21:52.960 parties get pretty crazy with shit get a little bit yeah yeah it would be pretty crazy especially when 0.68

01:21:57.720 you go to these bigger towns because like you go to some of these towns you know and the girls are 0.99

01:22:00.780 like especially like a lot lizards you know the ones that like they love the kind of the car when

01:22:06.240 the carnival comes to town because they ain't got nobody else like especially up in the sticks 0.76

01:22:09.420 of maine or something like that really so you're saying there was a lot of like uh like hookers 1.00

01:22:14.600 almost that would come and service the carnival workers yeah not not hookers just like straight 1.00

01:22:19.120 up hoes i guess oh girls that didn't want money yeah girls that just wanted a party yep 1.00

01:22:23.720 oh wow you'd get car fulls of them sometimes really oh yeah oh wow i never thought of that

01:22:29.800 like a fair you know one of some of the big fairs man they would show up after you're already closed

01:22:34.260 down and everything and car fulls of chicks would show up looking to party no yeah why did they know 1.00

01:22:38.980 you guys had drugs or something yeah they just were like oh the carnival's in town like let's go meet

01:22:43.620 the carnies you know you know so the only thing that happens every year in their town wow that's

01:22:49.820 freaking ripping bro then the next night you got the car full of the dudes showing up looking 0.98

01:22:53.660 and be like yo who fucked my old lady last night oh yeah you got fights breaking out all the time 1.00

01:22:58.520 yeah how well how wild would some of those parties get pretty wild yeah yeah some of the fights were 0.98

01:23:04.620 pretty crazy i mean it was no different than being in the city sometimes like it was so the dude dudes

01:23:09.640 would roll up and they'd want to settle the score yeah right and they couldn't because there's just so

01:23:14.840 many carnies like really yeah you know you can't show up with a car full of people or even two cars i

01:23:21.140 mean we have hundreds of people would you guys get in fights a lot were there a lot of fights out

01:23:25.100 there yeah there were i didn't fight a lot i wasn't much of a fighter i didn't like to fight but i've

01:23:28.880 seen some crazy ones like yeah i was i got arrested for one of them uh-uh yeah we'll do that so we were

01:23:33.900 at just a situation where we were in connecticut and all the carnivals got together you know and so

01:23:39.920 you got the first unit like oh the third unit's down there like we got to go show them who's boss you

01:23:45.160 know what i mean and they go down and i'm and i didn't even really know anybody from the third

01:23:48.820 unit at that point and i was friends with a lot of the kids from the first unit and uh i was on some

01:23:54.820 uh i was on some i think i was on some dancing condoms maybe that night some paper some acid oh

01:24:01.040 some lsd yeah praise god baby yeah and so there was a few of us on it and so they came up and they

01:24:06.680 were like oh we just got into a big fight down there like down in tent city and blah blah blah and

01:24:10.860 i was like and a couple of kids are like what no way like let's go down there again and blah blah

01:24:15.700 let's go and so i'm tripping and i'm like all right let's see where this goes and i just went

01:24:20.440 to go see the action yeah and so i'm down there and like it just all hell breaks loose like people

01:24:26.860 are getting ripped out of their tents like swords are coming flying out like it was wild like i'm

01:24:31.680 seeing like little droplets of blood fly by my face like laughing at me and stuff and i'm standing in

01:24:36.360 the middle like what is going on like this is like there was just it's like 30 people yeah it was

01:24:41.520 crazy and like security tried to stop it and they got beat up and so now they're all standing up

01:24:46.640 against the fence like ripped shirts and like holding on for dear life they're like we don't

01:24:51.220 want no part of that and the girls are screaming at him like stop this help go stop the fight go 0.93

01:24:55.920 stop the fight and they're like the cops are on their way don't worry about it like we are not

01:24:59.480 we don't want nothing more to do with it so steady showed up and uh i i left and the cops were out

01:25:07.620 there looking around or whatever and there were some people and i i didn't really think much of

01:25:11.080 it because i didn't i wasn't involved i was there but i wasn't involved i wasn't fighting yeah and so

01:25:15.940 i was just like i'm not too worried about it i'm gonna go walk around and see what's up yeah as soon

01:25:20.480 as i went out there cops like get on your knees he comes running up to me with a can of me like trying

01:25:24.760 to get a bj i guess i don't know he he comes running at me like oh with mace with mace oh my

01:25:30.680 jesus christ i'm like what is going on hey cops now too and so and i'm tripping so i'm like oh god

01:25:36.740 dude i'm like yeah whatever you want bro one time i and whatever they take you to jail they maced you

01:25:45.400 yeah no they didn't mace me but they did take me to jail they did yeah and you showed up in jail

01:25:49.740 were you still tripping oh yeah yeah i was tripping pretty hard i remember i was like standing in the

01:25:53.500 hallway and a few of my friends got arrested and a bunch of the kids from the other side that got

01:25:57.560 beat up got arrested oh yeah and uh i'm in the hallway and it was like i remember there being

01:26:02.500 like this textured wall and i couldn't stare at it i was just like it was going crazy at me and so i 0.97

01:26:08.680 turn away and the cops just like put your fucking face against the wall he's spitting on me and like 0.99

01:26:14.380 yeah like at a guar concert yeah i was like wow okay worse than guar oh and so face the wall and 0.99

01:26:21.220 they brought me into the cell and whatever we i bond out the next day i had a hitchhike back to

01:26:25.960 the carnival no oh yeah as soon as i get back to the car and they put me in a cell with one of the

01:26:30.920 kids that got beat up and so my friends are in another cell i'm in the cell with it and i'm still

01:26:34.900 tripping and i'm just like yelling fresh fish and like i'm just kind of being out of my mind and

01:26:39.400 you're yelling that at yourself no the cops oh the cops huh i think well maybe it was the kid that

01:26:45.860 got beat up because yeah i think people yell that at you if you're the fresh one yeah i know

01:26:49.760 but you were like i'm gonna beat him to the punch i'm gonna yell it yeah oh i like that and uh they

01:26:55.500 decided to keep me in there for a while because i think they everybody got bonded out they let

01:26:59.520 everybody leave and i'm still in there and then they went to lunch the cops and i'm like what is

01:27:05.760 going on i'm like they even they were gone for an hour hour and a half or so and then they come back

01:27:11.540 and i finally had calmed down wow and they and i was already bonded like i but they kept me in the

01:27:17.480 cell for an extra couple hours they finally let me out hitchhiked back to the carnival because of the

01:27:23.060 whole scene it was on the news i got fired that day and had to pack up my house trailer and hit the

01:27:29.260 road damn that's wow man it was pretty crazy so uh but i got back home and my mom was doing an event

01:27:38.640 that weekend so i just jumped on with one of her events and just went right back to work 0.97

01:27:43.320 were your parents were they always in in the were they working at carnivals as well yeah so my dad

01:27:50.720 was at was he at the one that that happened he might have been there he might have been at another

01:27:54.860 one was he doing at the carnival so my dad was uh he managed food and games okay so you're just

01:28:00.920 running around doing that yeah he was an old man by then by the time i was around he was 50 when he

01:28:05.560 had me oh okay so by the time i was like working 15 16 he was already almost pushing 70 you know

01:28:11.940 yeah and he looked like an old italian mafia like dude like he kept like this with his cane like

01:28:16.980 what are you guys doing over here get to work hitting his cane hitting his cane at you like come on

01:28:21.900 come on like colonel parker he was a good dude miss your dad um what was the uh what's some of the 0.99

01:28:31.040 wildest like was there some pretty good like sex activity going on out there because everybody

01:28:35.480 always thinks i think there's this vibe you think about like carnies like the ride shut down

01:28:40.560 and then the party starts yeah yeah like i think that's what the the energy you feel like happens

01:28:46.920 you know yeah like i said you get those car full of girls show up oh yeah one of those girls that 1.00

01:28:51.160 showed up the head hoe tattoo i was telling you about that was one of the girls that she wasn't even 1.00

01:28:54.920 an employee she was one of the girls that showed up looking to party it said bust a nut on me no this 1.00

01:28:59.040 one said head hoe head hoe on it yeah wow yeah just the advertising that they have that's wild to 0.98

01:29:07.700 me usually you don't know like a girl's tattoo would be like a secret you know yeah like any like you

01:29:13.760 know like love is forever or whatever you're like well i'm gonna have to decipher this you know but if

01:29:20.360 somebody's just like bust a nut on me or whatever it's like well it's just like not as much guesswork i

01:29:26.100 guess but yeah and it'd be crazy i mean they the girls like to party just as much as the guys so

01:29:32.920 you know there would be a lot of crazy stuff going down you know um looking to party looking to get

01:29:37.440 down and yeah i've seen some stuff i mean there's you know a friend yeah i've seen some stuff a friend

01:29:45.600 of mine like this chick really wanted to get down with a couple friends of mine so he breaks into

01:29:50.340 somebody's house trailer that we had never i don't know whose trailer it was he climbs through the

01:29:53.940 window goldie locking huh next thing i know he's kicking the door open and the door comes flying

01:29:58.760 open we're all standing outside and we're like well the hell what's going on he's like we got a spot

01:30:03.260 now let's go and he brings her in there and right on somebody's bed i don't know whose bed because they 0.91

01:30:08.200 had the couch pulled out so the door is wide open he's going to town right there wow yeah just making

01:30:12.920 love huh i don't know when you call it love but there was something going on yeah making almost

01:30:18.960 love my god yeah um so it was um it was interesting to tell you about another crazy game that we had

01:30:28.040 was uh it was called the crazy bike you ever heard of that one crazy bike yeah it was a bicycle where

01:30:33.180 if you turn left the wheel went right and if you turn the handlebars right the wheel went left oh my gosh

01:30:38.420 no yeah and so i owned one of those and i couldn't ride it i couldn't but i forgot my one of my best

01:30:45.340 friends learned how to ride it so we put it out there and if you could ride it 10 feet we would

01:30:49.400 give you 50 bucks yeah that thing was a hustle it was it was pretty tough to run i mean but if you

01:30:54.480 could learn how to ride it and the kid that worked for me was really good he'd be able to sit on the

01:30:59.480 handlebars backwards and ride it like he got really good at it it's a unicycle no it was a bicycle

01:31:04.460 regular bicycle two-wheel bike a crazy bike and we called it a crazy bike and so the if you turn

01:31:09.580 it to the left the wheel went to the right yep wow if you turn to the right the wheel went left so

01:31:13.500 hard to try to figure out how to ride that really especially if you never had oh yeah see god i

01:31:18.160 couldn't even imagine this right it's like because it's like dyslexia yeah yeah it's like dyslexia made

01:31:24.500 up piece of transportation but he could yeah he my friend could ride it all around the carnival like that

01:31:28.760 wow oh that's a vibe yeah and so we would do it if you drove it 10 feet we would mark it on the

01:31:37.520 ground if you drove it 10 feet we'd give you 50 bucks and now was there a lot of ladies to me did 1.00

01:31:42.140 you guys call regular people civilians what did y'all call them marks marks yeah god and we got everybody

01:31:48.500 that walked through it was like we how much can we gotta we gotta get it out of it yeah we gotta get

01:31:52.280 it get that mark and if you got one you'd call it out like you know we got you got a fresh one you got

01:31:56.580 a mark here and a lot of people would wear these pins called i love robin marks but it would be

01:32:01.120 spelt out like robin r-o-b-i-n and then marks underneath it so it looked like somebody's name

01:32:06.640 who was robin marks i was i was robin marks i got it but nobody was really actually robin marks no

01:32:14.560 bring up a picture for robin marks let's just find someone there's got to be somebody

01:32:17.920 there we go robin marks oh wow there is one and so yeah if you get marks there she is right there oh

01:32:25.700 sweetie i could fall in love with her husband yeah and like for the games you would either you'd 0.99

01:32:31.000 either be an agent or a clerk that's what we call the people that work the games like they're joinies

01:32:36.060 but an agent is somebody that can rob a mark and a clerk is somebody that's just going to collect

01:32:40.460 his money and not really hustle them so like what give me an example of how those would be at the

01:32:44.680 game like a clerk is somebody that doesn't really doesn't really know how to hustle somebody okay you

01:32:49.420 know what i mean he would just be there like oh you want to play he'll collect your money and you can

01:32:53.160 play the game but he's not going to sit there and try to hustle you out of more money okay where

01:32:56.940 an agent is going to try to take you for everything you got and who were the ages were there was it

01:33:02.060 like usually older people was it younger could it be anybody it was anybody anybody that was good at

01:33:07.120 hustling really like there was all all ages whites was it native america like who type was it any

01:33:12.640 it was whites whites yeah it's kind of a white sport carnivaling yeah yeah has it has it changed

01:33:20.820 like or i remember it being like that it was like kind of maybe white and black guys at work

01:33:24.640 or white and black people that worked there i guess yeah that's kind of all we had in our area

01:33:28.780 yeah up there and up north we didn't really have there's not a lot of blacks up north yeah i mean

01:33:34.460 one of my best friends artist he was an older guy and he worked out there my whole life he was best

01:33:38.520 friends with my brother because all my siblings were much older than me and so yeah we had some out

01:33:43.800 there and some you know some uh i guess it's some puerto ricans and stuff like but not really i mean

01:33:49.520 now they have a lot of um mexicans and south africans oh really yeah that's pretty much who's

01:33:56.080 running the rides now why what's changed like how have things changed yeah since the past and now

01:34:01.040 well it was hard finding i think really good ride help so they i don't know why it was mexico and

01:34:08.920 south africa i don't know why those two countries were picked but apparently it sold to them that

01:34:14.860 you're going to go on a work and vacation you get to see the united states and work and make money while 0.95

01:34:19.460 you're at it which is all bullshit you just you're doing the carnival and you're at that carnival it 0.88

01:34:25.320 doesn't look any different wherever you go you just it's the same lot so you're not you're not 0.99

01:34:29.940 seeing anything different would you ever get some free time i did yeah because you were a kid i was a

01:34:35.700 kid and like your parents were they didn't make money they weren't made of anything i mean we were

01:34:40.820 poor yeah wow so it's not a big money maker no and my parents were divorced so like so they were

01:34:46.520 splitting the money no i don't know or like when you have two homesteads going it's it's like yeah

01:34:52.040 but i didn't see my dad much growing up like really like yeah until i started joining the carnival

01:34:58.740 i mean i would once in a while like i would see him on like holidays and stuff and once in a while i

01:35:03.720 would go stay at his house i guess i remember but yeah what it was i didn't see him that much

01:35:08.640 until i almost had to be at the carnival to see him yeah yeah oh man it's kind of a bummer 0.83

01:35:13.540 it's kind of interesting it is yeah i mean bummer my dad was a hard ass too so i guess i'm glad 0.81

01:35:19.600 that i didn't see this much from what my brother said oh yeah he was great when i was i mean he was

01:35:23.960 an old man so he was just like a whatever people yeah start to lose their steam yeah their edge 0.96

01:35:29.660 but so it was definitely different and my mom you know trying to hold the carnival together

01:35:35.060 herself when all the kids were already grown and out of the house and not helping anymore

01:35:39.440 and i was still like a really young kid so yeah we didn't and we lived we didn't have much money 0.58

01:35:45.340 like i was getting school lunches and shit like that oh yeah same man yeah school lunches is always 0.86

01:35:50.900 so weird because you had to go get the ticket each day in the morning did you have to do that 0.57

01:35:54.820 no i forgot how they did it i think it was just like when you signed up and i don't remember

01:36:00.780 we had to go get the free ticket each day so it'd be like kind of embarrassing i felt like it was

01:36:06.260 embarrassing i remember that because i think it was by name or something like that or a separate line

01:36:11.500 or yeah separate line i remember you'd have to go to get the free ticket from the lady and had a y on

01:36:16.260 it yeah and if you paid ticket had an x on it yeah and i remember yeah we had to get the free ticket i

01:36:22.300 forgot about that man yeah i'm not saying like i'm ashamed of anything but i remember feeling at

01:36:28.240 the time like at the time yeah you were trying to just like pretend you weren't getting that one

01:36:33.800 yeah i don't know why they had me on this list that's strange yeah you're there yeah really what

01:36:39.660 happens every day sure god that wants to make some poor whoever's making these lists is just confused

01:36:48.740 huh um a lot of times people look at the carnival as a sad that like i think it got that rap over

01:36:55.000 the years in a way that it just like was a negative what are some positives about it because i also loved

01:37:00.940 like i loved go there was something like you almost felt like you were in the big city in a way because

01:37:07.160 there was these lights going on and there was you know people would come that you didn't normally get

01:37:11.700 to see because there were kids that went to different schools and that if they didn't go to your school

01:37:15.340 then maybe you'd see them there um those are things that i liked about it there were like

01:37:20.880 game you know like yeah you got to gamble or play games you didn't get to do that there was no other

01:37:26.640 world that you got to do that in as a kid yeah no you definitely felt a sense of like when you had a

01:37:32.500 good weekend or a good day and stuff and you felt like everything went off smooth especially if you're

01:37:37.120 doing food or like games that aren't a ripoff of rides like you know a lot of the ride guys would

01:37:42.220 feel pride and having like a really nice ride with all the lights working and stuff like that

01:37:46.060 making sure every bulb is fixed because then you got some rides where the ride suit the ride guys

01:37:50.060 didn't really give a fuck like all the lights are busted you got one blinking light going and like 0.92

01:37:54.800 yeah that's it no music and yeah yeah guys you know like i said he's like one of those guys that just 0.97

01:38:01.360 got out of prison and yeah so he's done he doesn't really care about the ride that much but when

01:38:07.080 but for the families that are out there and like when you have a good weekend or like a really nice

01:38:12.860 fair and you feel good about like you know putting on a good show for everybody and like having a good

01:38:17.320 you know i had pride in having a really like the cleanest stands and putting out quality food you

01:38:22.600 know you mean like a family's running like if a family owned like we do the games or we do the right

01:38:27.300 like we do the food and we do the right games so there would be some organization to that yeah there

01:38:31.920 would be multiple families there would be like you know sometimes 10 12 different families out there

01:38:36.800 yeah all owning i mean sometimes you would have one guy that just owned his one game

01:38:41.120 and he would travel everywhere with you get with you just running his one game that's what he owned

01:38:46.300 was there another world of carning where it was like somebody owned all of it and they would just

01:38:52.760 hire all the people yeah it's becoming that now oh it is yeah it's definitely is what is it like

01:38:59.880 about that what is it that makes people go to a carnival you think or go to a fair like what is it

01:39:04.980 fun they want to go on the rides yeah they want to have some fun they want to escape we need more

01:39:12.020 escapism these days yeah it was fun i definitely remember it was fun yeah and that was the thing

01:39:17.280 like it was crazy and stuff and we have some crazy stories but we always wanted to make sure like

01:39:21.200 we had we wanted to provide a good time for the people too i mean granted the rides definitely you

01:39:26.140 know are i mean the games are a hustle and some agents did take it too far you know i agree like those

01:39:32.180 people that were getting robbed of their life savings like you're taking it too far yeah but

01:39:36.000 for the most part like you do want the people to have a good time and come back the next day and

01:39:41.000 bring more people and any animals ever get loose out there when you got oh man well one time we let

01:39:46.280 a chicken go we we stole a chicken or a rooster and we put it up in the doghouse of the music fest

01:39:50.820 so when the next day they came to work there was this wild rooster up in the up in the doghouse

01:39:55.500 and the doghouse is the control room where you run the ride oh nice and the music fest is the one

01:40:01.080 where like they go around it's like they're you're in a car that kind of swings that it goes around

01:40:05.460 like this big like uh not a track but it's kind of because it's on an arm so they kind of the cars

01:40:10.580 swing and they swing around and they're playing like crazy music or whatever yeah i remember that

01:40:14.840 one and then it's like are you guys ready to go backwards yeah let's go backwards this time there

01:40:19.260 it is music fest yeah dude god those rides were such a big thing yeah we put a we put a chicken

01:40:27.880 in the doghouse one time for the right guys so when they showed up the next day yeah yeah because 0.96

01:40:33.380 i remember one time a lady just brought a box of cats and fucking just dumped that bitch out at the 1.00

01:40:38.680 fair that's a good place to get rid of them yeah i think that was like some of the vibe it was just 0.98

01:40:43.480 like people that had extra animals or whatever and they're like we're gonna bring them up here

01:40:47.700 because we knew people be up here and if they want a cat they got it or whatever but yeah there

01:40:54.180 was always some weird shit like that going on any love stories over the years you see where carnivores

01:40:58.880 met each other and yeah i met i'm i mean back in the day that's the only place i really met 0.84

01:41:04.260 i mean my friend april who i was been with i was with for you know almost 10 years or something

01:41:10.020 we were 16 17 when we hooked up and met at a carnival yeah she worked for somebody and i was working

01:41:15.940 out there and she worked for a friend of mine another family let me dart that balloon huh 1.00

01:41:20.340 she was actually pregnant when we hooked up already too and uh really yeah wow that seems

01:41:25.260 illegal that's crazy in the eyes of god but i don't know we're still friends that i still i mean

01:41:30.740 raekwon her son is works for me now yeah really yeah her son works for me like really yeah so wow

01:41:37.840 that's love man yeah well that's still best friends you know really yeah we're not together

01:41:41.740 obviously but yeah we're best friends still and damn so yeah we had some love can happen out there

01:41:48.860 i think my nephew met his wife out there he's met he just got married a year or two ago he met her out 0.89

01:41:53.140 there yeah yeah but she was south african i think she came over from uh that whole when they brought 0.98

01:41:59.760 all because they keep bringing more south africans over every year why just for that work and vacation 1.00

01:42:04.240 they sell them people think that they're going to come to america and make a lot of money and travel

01:42:08.540 and see the country but are they bummed out when they get here or no they're like most of them are

01:42:11.940 they are but they're already here they're already here some of them pay to go back home like you've

01:42:16.180 got to like but some of them love it and some of them end up rising up and getting positions of power

01:42:21.360 too yeah so it goes both ways some of them hated it some of them didn't mind it and some of them loved

01:42:27.320 it oh yeah mexicans i don't know because they all spoke mexican i couldn't figure it out if they liked

01:42:32.820 it or not yeah i think mexican people adjust pretty well yeah they just adjust well to most things you

01:42:40.520 know i would like to be mexican probably be fun oh yeah i think i'll be i don't know if i'd be good

01:42:47.220 at it but i would be i know i would try my best but i don't know i don't know i don't know

01:42:51.720 well my girlfriend's half mexican really yeah yeah does she seem does that part of her seem good

01:42:57.560 i love it yeah there you go yeah yeah i would just we'll see what happens but i anyway that's

01:43:02.120 like a bigger conversation but what about like gypsies did y'all ever run across those types of 1.00

01:43:06.740 oh yeah we had some gypsies you know what i'm talking about yeah man we had some that did like 1.00

01:43:10.640 the uh psychic readings and stuff like that yeah yeah and they traveled there's a lot of mushes out

01:43:15.440 yeah they didn't we didn't see them much really they were gypsies so they were travelers they were

01:43:20.260 travelers like because normally like if you wanted to do the big fairs you would have to like as a like

01:43:25.960 if you were a gypsy that just wanted to come in and do it yeah like in us family or different 0.89

01:43:29.540 families that were out there they would make you do the spring season with them and you had to do 0.97

01:43:33.660 all the shit spots if you wanted to get the good spots you know what i mean oh yeah it's just like 0.93

01:43:37.620 comedy yeah so but i don't know how the gypsies got away with it maybe just because like what do 1.00

01:43:43.060 you mean they got away with it they would do what they wouldn't have to do the shit spots 0.81

01:43:45.980 sometimes you would just see a gypsy like a psychic reader or somebody that did like the palm reading or 0.99

01:43:50.840 or the cards and you would only see them at like some of some of the big fairs and they wouldn't 0.69

01:43:56.100 have to do like all the shit spots oh they didn't have to play the smaller ones in this and the ones 0.63

01:44:00.100 you didn't love yeah they were funny man and you'd walk by like because i never went into them but she 0.90

01:44:04.940 would always like come on in i don't know and they're so perceptive because they would try to

01:44:11.160 get you to think that they were being psychic or they knew something but they're just watching

01:44:15.740 what's going on out in the carnival and they're like oh there's gonna be a blonde in your life 0.99

01:44:20.400 i see it and it's like yeah because you saw me last night hanging out with her right like but

01:44:25.980 they're uh yeah the gypsies are yeah real interesting my brother's friend donnie is a 1.00

01:44:31.600 gypsy i think he won't i mean he might not admit it but i think he is but i don't know if he is

01:44:35.900 but he is he is but i wouldn't mind being a i don't know much about it i don't i just wish i knew

01:44:43.540 more about it i like kind of simple you know i like kind of like jewelry or whatever and

01:44:49.180 sometimes i don't like a lot i mean i they're so secretive they're like gypsies are unique 1.00

01:44:55.080 they're unique yeah they're like yeah you don't know what's going on no you don't have a navy seals 0.61

01:45:00.660 but of like complete bullshit you don't know what they're thinking what they do like if they're 0.97

01:45:04.160 being if they're being serious or not if like they're telling you yeah you don't know they just 0.99

01:45:08.780 say stuff and they have their own language oh they do yeah it's pretty easy because the uh

01:45:13.820 i can't even speak it right really is that pig latin carny oh that's carny yeah carny is 0.76

01:45:20.060 tough because you have oh there's a carny language yes really yeah like what do you what do you tell 0.91

01:45:25.720 you about this oh it's like a pig latin yeah you put e-e-z before every vowel oh my so it gets

01:45:33.560 tough e-e-z yeah oh my g-e-z it would be gizad oh my gizad so o would be eezo mezad gizad oh my god

01:45:45.440 eezo mezad gizad wow breeze bizad you put eezad above eez before every vowel so god would be gizad

01:45:58.740 beezad bizad eezad eezad what was the what did the lady say beezad eezad oh yeah naysad bizad 0.91

01:46:11.300 eezad eezad eezad bizad busting that oh man that's a crazy so how do you shut the carnival down

01:46:21.400 and move it to the next place what's that like what's the breakdown like in the setup

01:46:24.680 when you close at night you wait for the big gondola wheel to close down that's how you know

01:46:28.900 you're closed what is the big gondola wheel the big ferris wheel the giant ferris wheel you wait

01:46:32.700 for the lights to go off and that means you close that's when you know it's time to close and you

01:46:36.060 close down and uh depending on what you ran um games were really easy to tear down you know the

01:46:44.080 hardest thing was putting on the hitch after they took your game away because the hitches come off 1.00

01:46:47.880 the pull the trailer that you pull the trailer by you got to take those off so you can put all the

01:46:52.100 games bottom up to each other make the midway wait hold on when you say make the midway what

01:46:56.420 do you mean and you put them one into the truck when you put you know when you go on to the midway

01:47:00.400 the midway is like where all the games and the food are they're all able to butt up against each

01:47:04.760 other flat because you take the hitch off with that that goes on to the that you hook the truck up to

01:47:09.320 you back the truck up to the hitch oh yeah and so that comes off and that's probably the hardest part

01:47:13.880 of like tearing down a game okay it's taking that on and how do y'all travel it all out there how does it

01:47:18.240 all move out so it's up to each family they usually have trucks that pull that pull their stuff and

01:47:25.000 somebody that works for them usually will be a driver or two they might have a couple drivers

01:47:28.640 or you might hire a trucking company to come in and pull your stuff um the carnival that like the

01:47:35.500 carnival itself they own big trucks that pull their stuff and they also hire people out too depending on

01:47:40.680 how fast you got to get the stuff over the road how far it is if you can make multiple trips or not

01:47:45.260 because sometimes if you're only going you know 50 60 miles you can make multiple trips but if you're

01:47:50.020 going a couple hundred miles you might not want to make as many trips you know yeah you don't have

01:47:53.760 the time yeah so you'll hire a trucking company to come in and take it and i used to tear down rides

01:47:58.760 and stuff too for extra money so i would do like sometimes up to five rides a night i'd tear down

01:48:04.340 and set up i would tear down five rides go set up five rides and you know i'd make good extra money

01:48:09.160 doing that yeah it was cash yeah so what are they paying extra 50 bucks to help turn around or something

01:48:13.840 no so you do four or five a night maybe a couple hundred bucks that's great

01:48:18.080 you know yeah and so like the stand i have now like some of the even back then at the carnival

01:48:24.920 we had a wooden frame like i ran towards the end i ran all i was in charge of the food stands for my

01:48:30.360 brother and my father and um we had the wood frame sausage stands that had the counters that came along

01:48:37.440 the side that you could sit at and sit at the counters and like watch them cook and stuff like that i

01:48:42.220 don't know if you had them down here or not but that so that's what i have now that's what i use

01:48:46.600 out at the festivals too okay and that's a lot of work because everything has to come out of the truck

01:48:51.040 you know the grills the fry it laters the fridges like everything comes out you set it up how would

01:48:55.200 they move the big rides how do they get those to the next town or whatever yeah big big truck you

01:49:00.640 tear down and most of them they fold down pretty small like a lot of them do they fold onto a semi or

01:49:06.420 just onto a trailer onto a semi trailer on a semi trailer yeah it's got wheels under it

01:49:10.680 right some of them are ground we call the other ones that aren't on a trailer ground mounts

01:49:14.460 okay so they'll have a trailer for it and but everything has to come off the trailer and set

01:49:18.800 up on the ground okay but then some are on the trailer itself and the trailer just unfolds like a

01:49:24.300 you know like a transformer how hard is it to break down a whole carnival does it take a whole day or

01:49:28.860 they get it done in a matter of it depends i mean you can move you can get it done fairly fast

01:49:33.340 you know sometimes you can be have everything done in like a good six hours or so wow really

01:49:41.460 and do they travel at night usually or what does it happen yeah yeah because you usually close sunday

01:49:46.760 nights and so you're done depending on how late you close sometimes you'll close early um some sundays

01:49:54.500 though they do the uh the bracelets where you buy a bracelet you could ride all the rides all day at

01:49:58.580 night and so when they do that and if you're making money you stay open later because you don't want to

01:50:02.620 you don't want to close on people is what we call it oh yeah if there's people still there yeah

01:50:06.540 what was one other game we used to play where you would like put the slide the money and it would

01:50:11.320 you pay and get these thing of coins and you put the coins in and it would push called the splash

01:50:16.300 down was one of the ones we called it yeah it would move the coins forward and sometimes it would push

01:50:20.300 a little like a an actual quarter would be on top of them it would push a quarter off for a dollar

01:50:24.780 we use quarters in ours oh you do yeah there was sometimes depending on the state sometimes you

01:50:30.380 use coins sometimes you can use quarters in Maine you can use quarters yeah and so but those are a

01:50:35.600 hustle too are they yeah because there's a couple different ways they hustled it sometimes there

01:50:40.120 would be uh something under the quarters of the coins there's like this triangle right at the front

01:50:45.360 of the lip so when they're pushing they push sideways and if you want to see on the sides there's the

01:50:50.080 splash downs on the sides did you notice before that there's an out of bounds so the coins can push

01:50:55.520 into the out of bounds so you would put a lot of weight in the middle so instead of pushing forward

01:51:03.420 it would push to the side yeah because they could fall off to the side yeah and if they fell off in

01:51:07.220 the middle you got you got it right but if they fall to the sides the house gets it yeah that was it

01:51:12.040 right there and so the more weight you put in the front the more it's going to push to the sides 0.98

01:51:16.800 damn sometimes people would glue that shit down no oh yeah oh god you know what it taught you though 1.00

01:51:26.620 it taught you about loss man it taught you that life is gonna fucking you're probably gonna lose 1.00

01:51:33.400 yeah you know and you're probably gonna knock somebody up yeah it just taught me that everything 0.98

01:51:39.220 is a fucking hustle man yeah everything in life whether it's your hvac guy whether it's your teacher 1.00

01:51:45.680 at high school yeah whether it's your second fucking wiener yeah it's a fucking hustle life's 1.00

01:51:52.040 a hustle dude because yeah life's a hustle man um that was another thing speaking of his wiener that 0.99

01:51:58.800 was the way he made money you asking how like i knew he used it he used to make these pamphlets and

01:52:02.720 he'd sell those things to everybody because he was tired of answering all those questions if his 0.97

01:52:06.400 penis worked or not how he really like it like his like uh hygiene and stuff like that the great 0.98

01:52:12.200 lentini you mean yeah the great lentini so i'd love to get a hold of one of those wow that'd be

01:52:17.100 fascinating if you had that pamphlet bring up that bring that up one more time i want to look at him 0.92

01:52:20.680 as we close out here my dad had three nipples did he really yeah wow i had an extra nipple right 0.92

01:52:26.400 down here hmm that's almost that's like a third lay it's kind of like a third it's like 0.92

01:52:32.300 it seems like it's the same genetics you know yeah i was i was kind of wondering that if it was

01:52:37.620 because of the genes i think frank lentini for as long as i can remember uh sideshow attractions

01:52:41.920 let's look at two more of them before we go mirin dajo the invulnerable man mirin dajo was born in

01:52:47.620 rotterdam in the netherlands in 1912 mirin was famous for piercing his body with sharp objects

01:52:51.900 and suffering no pain or even bleeding as a result he also had boiling water hurled at him and survived

01:52:57.160 being shot in the head multiple times mirin was not affiliated with any one sideshow act or circus

01:53:01.700 but the idea of being a human pin cushion was one that was popular in that industry wow so he would put

01:53:07.380 pins right through himself he was the real article wow that's pretty crazy i think i remember hearing

01:53:13.340 about him really when i was when i was researching my uncle that i remember seeing in the elastic man

01:53:18.260 too there was a guy that maybe that was him that could like stretch his skin really crazy mirin dajo

01:53:24.060 maybe it was him while he would perform he would also preach and say that his abilities were the

01:53:28.080 result of god showing those he performed for that there was something better out there

01:53:31.940 while he preached he would also condemn the idea of materialism huh

01:53:35.780 so he kind of had a message with what he was doing interesting interesting man um

01:53:42.240 mitch man nice to meet a carny bro nice to meet a guy that's uh that's been through it

01:53:47.940 and able to come here and share a little bit of what the world and universe is like

01:53:52.240 yes it's been quite a ride man it's definitely been interesting and i want to change it for the world

01:53:57.620 it's taught me a lot and uh it got me yeah it got me i mean it's where it's where i am today it got me

01:54:05.340 here to meet you yeah man it got me here to meet you and i'm i'm the job i have now like selling food

01:54:11.340 out there is uh they treat me like a rock star out there and i'm not gonna lie like they

01:54:16.080 they really do and i have to give a shout out to all those all those all my nieces and nephews

01:54:22.440 out there in the world that really like support me and take care of me and out there like they really

01:54:26.460 love uncle mitch's munchies home of the turtle dick sandwich really yeah and it's real meat 0.99

01:54:32.220 yeah turtle dick sandwich there's only two places in the country that could sell it oh wow 0.99

01:54:36.280 yeah it's in danger it's got to be endangered or whatever yeah so we do it we do it you know 0.98

01:54:41.360 now we go get we get the turtle we snip it and send it back off in the wild you serious no oh but 0.99

01:54:48.080 we do sell a turtle dick sandwich but it's not real but it's not turtle dick okay but that's what it 0.99

01:54:53.480 says on the menu it says turtle dick sandwich and then it says if you have to ask it's not for you 0.99

01:54:57.280 oh i see so we fuck well that's just one of the things it's like you just can't even get real 1.00

01:55:01.540 turtle dick anymore but you should see all the turtle dicks we have now people make turtle dick like 1.00

01:55:05.580 we have all these turtle dicks a dancing turtle dick all this crazy shit out there the games 1.00

01:55:11.900 continue man i love it thanks miss so much for your time man um yeah i appreciate you coming 0.99

01:55:17.740 dude and spending some time with us and uh i'm gonna see you on the ninth yeah yeah it's actually

01:55:22.220 what i do in the winter i work for my buddy's company north beast up there with ashley and
