00:01:54.660 Cowboy hat, you think?

00:01:55.820 Seafood.

00:01:56.620 Yeah.

00:01:57.100 Yeah.

00:01:57.600 I do.

00:01:58.200 I love Pensacola Beach.

00:02:00.140 This thing is like a T-bone shrimp, bro.

00:02:02.080 I can see you having a big old shrimp.

00:02:03.740 Yeah, man.

00:02:04.140 Just the biggest shrimp ever.

00:02:06.940 Medium well.

00:02:07.360 I like my shrimp.

00:02:08.540 I like my shrimp medium well.

00:02:11.660 Dude, they do have some big shrimp in the Gulf of Mexico, though.

00:02:14.220 Yeah.

00:02:14.640 Those things get big, man.

00:02:15.960 You'll see one with like a coffee cup in it.

00:02:19.260 Smoking a cigarette in the morning.

00:02:20.680 Yeah.

00:02:21.380 This thing's been up all night.

00:02:22.400 Got a rock star ball cap with a mullet in the back.

00:02:25.280 Yeah.

00:02:25.380 That's awesome.

00:02:26.120 You'll see one with like a security vest on like he's been working.

00:02:28.580 Working at Hooters.

00:02:29.320 Yeah.

00:02:29.640 Saw it.

00:02:30.380 Yeah.

00:02:31.220 I need to go to Pensacola Beach, man.

00:02:33.100 I ain't been there in a minute.

00:02:34.220 Dude, Hooters used to be the place, man.

00:02:36.180 Used to be.

00:02:37.020 Used to be.

00:02:37.660 You want to know?

00:02:38.280 How old are you, Jess?

00:02:39.280 22.

00:02:39.980 Oh, yeah.

00:02:40.480 You don't know. 0.96

00:02:40.920 That's disgusting, man. 0.99

00:02:41.180 That's disgusting. 0.99

00:02:41.740 Yeah, that's disgusting, bro. 1.00

00:02:42.740 I'll drink your blood, bro. 1.00

00:02:43.940 Back in college, Hooters was, man, it was a shit. 1.00

00:02:47.920 It was a place you would go wife hunting, dude. 1.00

00:02:49.600 Really?

00:02:49.880 You would put.

00:02:50.260 Oh, I remember I'd slick the sides of my head back with a jelly packet, bro, if we didn't

00:02:53.900 have any hair gel.

00:02:54.980 Yep.

00:02:55.260 I'd get just like a light strawberry or something.

00:02:57.840 Go down each side, and I'd go to Hooters, bro.

00:03:01.480 I would get an appetizer, yeah, and just stare straight into the eyes of every woman until 1.00

00:03:05.840 they asked me to leave.

00:03:08.640 That's a good play, dude.

00:03:10.560 I never could make eye contact.

00:03:12.060 Oh, yeah?

00:03:12.480 Yeah, I was really shy.

00:03:13.660 Oh, wow.

00:03:13.900 I got really nervous.

00:03:15.300 So, I just sat there until I fell off the stool, and then security would ask me.

00:03:19.520 Oh, that old trick.

00:03:19.880 Same thing, kind of.

00:03:20.860 Yeah.

00:03:21.220 Just to get their attention.

00:03:22.680 Yeah.

00:03:22.920 That's why I did it.

00:03:23.600 Yeah.

00:03:24.020 Makes sense, right?

00:03:25.120 Then they're like, oh, we got to check on him.

00:03:26.880 Yeah.

00:03:27.300 It's like the kid that pretended to be drowning, so the lifeguard would come down and give

00:03:31.320 him mouth to mouth in Sandlot.

00:03:32.160 Oh, yeah.

00:03:32.660 In that movie on Sandlot.

00:03:34.380 Sandlot.

00:03:34.840 Wasn't it?

00:03:35.340 Sandlot.

00:03:35.700 Yeah, small.

00:03:36.000 I think so?

00:03:36.600 Yeah.

00:03:36.760 That was a good movie, man.

00:03:38.040 It's a good movie.

00:03:39.100 So, let's get you guys' jobs clear.

00:03:41.480 So, you're a rider.

00:03:42.920 Yep.

00:03:43.220 I'm a rider.

00:03:44.040 I ride full.

00:03:44.360 And you're one of the best riders.

00:03:45.800 Yep.

00:03:46.180 In 2017 and 2019, I won it.

00:03:48.580 Right.

00:03:48.840 In the world title.

00:03:49.580 And who won 2018?

00:03:51.240 Kayuki Pacheco.

00:03:52.360 Oh, God.

00:03:53.080 It wasn't my year.

00:03:54.020 It wasn't, no. 1.00

00:03:54.560 No, I got my ass kicked. 1.00

00:03:55.960 Really? 1.00

00:03:56.420 Yeah.

00:03:56.700 And do you credit anything to what cost you it, or do you think it was just a bad bull?

00:04:01.060 What was the cost?

00:04:02.660 Shoot.

00:04:03.300 They talk about it all the time. 0.97

00:04:04.840 World champion hangover.

00:04:06.400 Kind of just.

00:04:07.140 Yeah.

00:04:07.320 I didn't go into the season as pinpointed as I should have.

00:04:11.740 And then second half of the season.

00:04:12.860 Were you partying in the off season? 0.99

00:04:13.900 Were you riding other animals and shit? 0.99

00:04:15.680 I didn't riding on other animals, but I did go partying. 0.98

00:04:19.200 Yeah.

00:04:19.920 You got to.

00:04:20.720 I was celebrated.

00:04:22.140 Yeah.

00:04:22.340 I was a 20-year-old kid.

00:04:24.200 Went and hung out at my buddy's college for a bit and hung out and had fun.

00:04:28.700 And then.

00:04:29.220 Pre-marriage. 0.88

00:04:30.060 Yeah.

00:04:30.380 This was pre-marriage.

00:04:31.500 Okay.

00:04:31.860 Yeah.

00:04:32.260 So, yeah.

00:04:32.460 I can talk about this.

00:04:33.980 Yeah.

00:04:34.940 And he's talking Christian fun.

00:04:36.300 He's talking water slides.

00:04:37.420 Yeah.

00:04:37.640 He's talking, yeah.

00:04:38.480 Balloon.

00:04:38.880 Yeah.

00:04:38.980 Yeah, exactly.

00:04:39.500 Party flash.

00:04:40.180 Roller coasters.

00:04:41.080 Yeah.

00:04:41.340 Yeah.

00:04:42.020 Movies.

00:04:42.500 Just, you know, good kid fun.

00:04:43.480 It's sad, but that's actually kind of true.

00:04:45.700 Yeah?

00:04:46.560 He's not much of a partier.

00:04:48.520 No, I'm not too hard.

00:04:49.500 So, 2019, was that like a comeback time for you, did you feel like?

00:04:53.600 Yeah.

00:04:53.920 After that 2018 season, I was pretty pissed off and I had a chip on my shoulder going into

00:04:58.900 the new season and had to prove something.

00:05:00.900 So, it was a good season.

00:05:02.960 Jess, thanks for being here today.

00:05:04.980 Your job with.

00:05:06.280 It's totally different.

00:05:07.440 Right.

00:05:07.660 I just talk for a living.

00:05:08.800 Yeah.

00:05:09.080 It's not hard.

00:05:09.960 So, how does it go when you get to the arena, when you get to the actual event?

00:05:13.740 So, I mean, it's just like anything else.

00:05:15.340 Like, when you start putting your stand-up together, like, we'll start putting notes together

00:05:18.620 about these guys.

00:05:19.860 I'll talk about, you know, if he broke his collarbone or whatever.

00:05:23.020 Storylines, statistics.

00:05:24.340 We've got to know the Bulls.

00:05:26.180 We've got to know all the guys and be able to kind of tell that story to somebody that's

00:05:29.340 never seen it before.

00:05:30.540 Yeah.

00:05:31.060 And find a way to make it interesting to them.

00:05:33.220 Like, I put pressure on myself to bring in brand new fans that have no idea what the 0.98

00:05:38.180 hell's going on and make them leave going, holy shit, I'm invested in this guy 0.98

00:05:42.560 or this Bull, or I just love the sport. 0.99

00:05:44.960 It's one of the fastest growing sports in America.

00:05:47.300 Yeah.

00:05:48.020 Yeah.

00:05:48.440 Why is that, you think?

00:05:50.080 Man, I think it's like, I think the intensity of it, like, and the respect for what these

00:05:54.680 guys do, because it's literally the only sport in the world that a guy can lose his life

00:06:00.540 practicing.

00:06:01.720 I mean, because they practice on real live Bulls, and when you're putting that much on

00:06:06.680 the line every single time, like, it's not like you show up and half-ass a game.

00:06:10.640 Like, these guys got to show up and give it 1,000% every time.

00:06:14.900 So how could you not be invested in something like that?

00:06:17.180 Yeah.

00:06:17.640 Yeah, you can't get up, you can't spray paint a sheep and lie to the audience and get out

00:06:21.540 there and take it easy one ride.

00:06:23.180 If you don't stay on, you don't get paid.

00:06:25.060 That's another thing.

00:06:25.820 A lot of guys have contracts, salaries.

00:06:28.500 If you buck off and you go on a streak where you fall off a lot, you're probably either getting

00:06:33.180 kicked off the tour and not paid, or you're losing sponsors, all sorts of stuff.

00:06:37.900 So, yeah.

00:06:39.520 Nobody's sitting in a control room, punching a button, telling them that, hey, this Bull's

00:06:43.040 going to turn left.

00:06:44.060 Right.

00:06:44.240 Giving them a little, the old Astros turn to the left or anything like that.

00:06:47.940 Yeah, you don't get to Omaha.

00:06:49.120 Not Omaha when you're up on the Bulls.

00:06:50.460 No, right.

00:06:51.780 There's no time out.

00:06:53.020 Hey, stop.

00:06:53.660 This ain't comfortable.

00:06:55.120 It's, when you're going, you're in for it.

00:06:58.180 So, the size of these Bulls, what is it?

00:07:00.540 Like, what are we talking? 0.97

00:07:01.740 I'd say an average one's 1,600, 1,700, but shit, there'll be ones up to 2,200 pounds. 1.00

00:07:07.900 Damn. 1.00

00:07:08.100 There are some big bastards out there. 1.00

00:07:10.460 And you don't get to meet them before? 1.00

00:07:11.940 You don't get to, like, say anything to them?

00:07:13.560 Hey, buddy.

00:07:14.600 I mean, you can, but most of the time, they don't care about your opinion.

00:07:17.580 They want to get in there, buck you off, go back to feeding their cows. 0.87

00:07:21.860 And why do they hate having something on their back?

00:07:23.740 They just don't like it?

00:07:24.720 It's just that it's bred into them at this point.

00:07:26.840 And, you know, back in the day, it was kind of hit and miss.

00:07:30.740 Bulls would buck hard.

00:07:31.580 Bulls wouldn't.

00:07:32.200 But nowadays, they're bred to do this, and they know their job.

00:07:35.580 So, it's to get you off as soon as they can and go back to the back pens.

00:07:39.660 And as, if you're like, so, the different rounds, you guys get into a bull riding event, right?

00:07:45.400 So, you start, there's how many competitors are going to be in an event?

00:07:48.480 How does it, how does the event go throughout the evening?

00:07:51.200 So, it's like, it starts with 35.

00:07:52.980 Every weekend, the best 35 guys in the world show up.

00:07:56.820 And typically, on like a two-day weekend, all 35 will get on two bulls.

00:08:01.740 They'll get on a bull like Friday night and then another bull on Saturday night.

00:08:04.840 And then the top 15 guys, after those two rounds, will get on a third bull.

00:08:09.040 They're like the best bulls in the world.

00:08:10.660 So, you know, it's like you're playing in the major leagues,

00:08:13.200 and then you've got to step it up a notch in that final 15.

00:08:16.000 And those are the guys that really get paid.

00:08:18.160 That's how you win.

00:08:18.780 So, that's when you get that money round on Sunday.

00:08:20.740 Oh, yeah.

00:08:21.120 Yeah, that's championship round. 0.98

00:08:22.960 You go and lead in that sucker, pick a good bull, do your job, 0.98

00:08:26.260 you're most likely going to win it. 0.93

00:08:27.840 And did you ever bull ride?

00:08:29.240 Man, I tried it one time.

00:08:30.600 Wow. 1.00

00:08:30.760 And it was the dumbest thing I've ever done. 0.99

00:08:32.140 And I enrolled in the same college three times. 1.00

00:08:34.080 That's no bullshit. 1.00

00:08:35.100 I've done some stupid stuff, but I tried it, man. 0.99

00:08:38.120 Because, like, I was so invested in what the guys were doing, 0.99

00:08:40.560 and I was friends with all of them.

00:08:41.860 I had so much respect for them.

00:08:42.920 I was like, I can't get up there and talk about it and not know what it feels like.

00:08:46.640 Amen.

00:08:47.120 And I still don't know what it feels like,

00:08:48.440 because it knocked me smooth the hell out.

00:08:50.460 I had no idea what happened.

00:08:52.480 Really?

00:08:52.980 Yeah. 0.99

00:08:53.260 It was dumb. 1.00

00:08:53.880 It was so dumb. 1.00

00:08:54.560 And I got on a bull that, like, legit couldn't have jumped over that cup. 0.99

00:08:58.560 It was so bad, man.

00:09:00.160 That was the worst bull attempter ever.

00:09:02.320 Wow. 0.99

00:09:02.700 It sucked. 0.94

00:09:03.920 And so, you get into the event, you get on top of the bull, 0.96

00:09:07.580 you're in the, it's a pin, what do they call it?

00:09:09.960 Buck and shoot. 0.98

00:09:10.920 A buck and shoot, in the shoot. 0.93

00:09:12.180 Mm-hmm.

00:09:12.540 Okay.

00:09:13.100 Now, once you sit on it, do they let, like, how long do you get to be on it before that gate opens?

00:09:19.740 So, you're, you just kind of go through the motions, your routine, but once the judge,

00:09:24.500 they got a judge sitting up on top of there, and once he feels like you're taking too long,

00:09:29.200 he'll put you on a clock and you got 30 seconds.

00:09:31.320 And regardless, if that bull's going crazy in there, you got 30 seconds.

00:09:35.320 So, it's best to get in there and go as fast as you possibly can, which we want to,

00:09:40.440 because it's sometimes more dangerous in that steel metal shoot than it is out in the arena.

00:09:45.680 So, can you, do you make that call when you're in there?

00:09:48.080 Do you say, hey, I'm ready now?

00:09:49.580 Do you have a coach that's right there that says, hey, look, this is, the time is right now,

00:09:53.340 let's open the gate now?

00:09:54.380 How does that work?

00:09:55.240 No, if you kind of, like I said, go through your routine, and then once you're ready,

00:09:58.400 you slide up on him and you nod your head, or you can just tell him, like, okay, open the gate.

00:10:03.680 But most of us nod our head like that whenever you feel you're ready.

00:10:08.060 And is there, can you, because the only thing I could equate it to is being, you know, a non-rider.

00:10:11.640 I mean, I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but that's about as wild as I get.

00:10:14.720 So, the only thing I could equate it to is being on, like, I would think being on, like,

00:10:18.660 a thing at an amusement park or something.

00:10:21.820 Does it have that kind of feel, like, when you're getting to the, you know, you're about to, you know, go down.

00:10:26.940 Just drops out from underneath you.

00:10:28.120 Oh, yeah.

00:10:28.520 Is it something like that?

00:10:28.900 It's, when that roller coaster's climbing and you can feel your body kind of start to get that adrenaline going, 0.99

00:10:34.960 it's like, oh, shit, it's coming, it's coming. 0.98

00:10:37.020 That's what it's like when you're in the chute doing your routine, and then when you get up and nod, 0.99

00:10:40.900 it's kind of, after when you nod, it's like when that roller coaster drop, it just goes black.

00:10:45.560 You know what you're doing, but it's all reaction.

00:10:47.540 You don't have time to think.

00:10:48.920 You don't have time to do anything.

00:10:50.060 It's just hold on for dear life.

00:10:51.320 Is there a place where your head goes?

00:10:53.240 Because I can imagine if you start to get too mental about it, then you're probably going to, it's going to be a loss.

00:10:59.440 Like, I can imagine you have to stay in, like, a flow almost.

00:11:01.920 Oh, yeah.

00:11:02.300 If you're in the chute and you're thinking, all right, I know this bull, he's going to turn out of here and go left. 0.76

00:11:06.800 If you start thinking that when you're in the chute, you screwed yourself because that bull has a mind of its own.

00:11:12.380 You make a move right out of there to go left, he's going to go straight or he's going to go the opposite way just to dump you. 1.00

00:11:17.960 Damn. 0.98

00:11:18.180 Is there a feeling you get sometimes when you're on it, like, man, this thing is not, it's not a good day for this one. 0.99

00:11:24.360 It's that time of the month for this one. 1.00

00:11:26.580 Is there anything you get this one's had a tough week or something?

00:11:29.320 Do you get any of that?

00:11:30.360 Is there any vibe coming up for the bull or not really?

00:11:32.820 Not really.

00:11:33.580 When he rolls into that chute, usually, you can tell kind of, you can get a little vibe off of him, not by feel, just by looking at him.

00:11:40.180 If he's kind of droopy-eared or if he looks real skinny, the normal, you can kind of tell, well, he doesn't look like he's going to have his day. 0.98

00:11:48.180 But then they can surprise you and they can buck your ass off quick. 1.00

00:11:51.100 Damn. 0.99

00:11:51.660 That's what's funny about it because you see guys that, like me, I always try to match them up. 0.99

00:11:56.640 And I'm like, okay, he's definitely going to ride that one.

00:11:59.560 He's definitely going to ride that one.

00:12:00.760 That one's going to be tough for him. 0.99

00:12:02.240 And then you see somebody get on one that should be a quote-unquote gimme, and they slam their ass in, like, less than a second. 0.99

00:12:08.460 It's unreal, man. 0.98

00:12:09.800 Have you ever seen one?

00:12:10.680 Yeah.

00:12:10.920 You've been to one?

00:12:11.540 I've watched a bunch.

00:12:11.960 I've watched them.

00:12:12.620 I've never been.

00:12:13.320 I might go Saturday.

00:12:14.300 Sweet.

00:12:14.920 Yeah.

00:12:15.220 So I'm actually really looking forward to going Saturday.

00:12:16.920 So much different in person.

00:12:18.660 So much different, man.

00:12:19.540 I want to get that ambiance.

00:12:20.680 We got you.

00:12:21.520 I have a brother-in-law that did a lot of the rode Broncos for a while.

00:12:25.040 Yeah.

00:12:25.440 Or rode the horses, right?

00:12:26.700 Oh, yeah, bucking horses.

00:12:27.720 And did you start with that?

00:12:28.900 So we grew up on a ranch, and that's kind of the first thing you get on as a kid is horses,

00:12:34.400 because we have cattle.

00:12:35.760 The cattle need to be worked, moved to different pastures.

00:12:38.200 So I started out on a little tiny mini pony, and Dad would, I wouldn't have my own reins,

00:12:43.360 how you control them.

00:12:44.620 Dad would just take them and tie them to his saddle, and away we'd go.

00:12:47.840 I'd just hold on when I was two, three years old. 0.99

00:12:50.140 Damn. 0.99

00:12:50.660 Yep. 1.00

00:12:51.200 A lot of guys start on sheep.

00:12:53.200 Oh, yeah?

00:12:53.680 Yeah, believe it or not, a lot of guys will start on sheep. 0.99

00:12:56.460 Is that gay, man? 0.99

00:12:56.700 It sounds like it, right? 0.98

00:12:58.960 But like little kids riding sheep, you know? 0.97

00:13:01.180 Dude, I'd pay $70 to watch a beautiful gay man on a hardcore sheep. 1.00

00:13:05.720 $70? 0.98

00:13:06.500 $60?

00:13:07.240 $65?

00:13:07.980 I mean, dude, I'd go $60.

00:13:09.180 Yeah, I'd go $80, man, if it's Sunday.

00:13:11.080 You know what?

00:13:11.960 Only if it's Sunday, though.

00:13:12.980 Makes sense.

00:13:13.620 If it's that final 15, bro.

00:13:14.660 It's the Lord's Day.

00:13:15.660 It's the Lord's Day.

00:13:16.440 Yeah.

00:13:17.240 We have a question that came in right here from somebody.

00:13:19.500 Let's get to it here.

00:13:24.580 Hey, Jess.

00:13:25.400 Hey, Theo.

00:13:26.220 Drew from Central Indiana here.

00:13:28.360 I grew up idolizing bull riders in the early and mid-'90s, guys like Tuff Edeman, Cody

00:13:35.060 Lambert, Lane Frost, Ty Murray, you know, all the guys from the 8 Seconds movie.

00:13:40.320 Questions for you, Jess.

00:13:41.540 I got a three-parter here.

00:13:43.580 Bodacious is obviously one of the most famous bulls ever on the circuit.

00:13:47.520 Just curious if there's a bull today that you think compares to him.

00:13:51.540 Secondly, follow-up with that is, is there a favorite bull name that you have that you've

00:14:00.200 come across over the years?

00:14:02.140 And thirdly, my question is, does stature become a factor in bull riding, or is it just 0.99

00:14:11.040 the size of the cojones that you have? 0.91

00:14:15.300 Good luck this year on the circuit, man. 0.99

00:14:17.180 Defend that strap. 1.00

00:14:18.460 Go get him.

00:14:19.440 Gang, gang.

00:14:20.020 Gang, bro.

00:14:20.620 That's a good question.

00:14:21.420 That's a good question, man.

00:14:22.340 Yeah, that guy nailed it.

00:14:23.580 Yeah, he's into it, man.

00:14:24.620 That's beautiful.

00:14:25.280 Yeah, Ty Murray, is that the guy?

00:14:28.240 Yep.

00:14:28.620 Yeah, that's the only bull rider that I've ever heard of, and I think I heard him in

00:14:31.440 country songs, actually.

00:14:33.000 I heard him referenced in a couple of songs.

00:14:34.600 See, that's like me. 0.97

00:14:35.700 Like, I grew up idolizing those guys and knew I didn't have the cojones to be one of them. 0.98

00:14:39.680 Right. 0.97

00:14:39.900 So it was like, how do I stay involved?

00:14:41.460 Well, I talk about them, you know?

00:14:43.280 But that's great, though.

00:14:44.080 And I love the way you say you want to introduce people to it, because, yeah, if I'm for the first

00:14:47.580 time, it's almost like even on this podcast, like, I want our listeners to know what it's

00:14:51.940 like, you know, and what's going on.

00:14:54.000 What do you think about his question there?

00:14:55.880 They were good.

00:14:58.080 What did he ask about Bodacious right at first?

00:15:00.180 A bull comparison?

00:15:00.540 Like a bull, like, right now, yeah. 0.67

00:15:02.380 Shoot.

00:15:03.100 Smooth Operator and Heartbreak Kid, those are the top two bulls in the world right now.

00:15:06.840 But a bull that kind of reminds me of Bodacious is a bull called High Chaparral, and that's

00:15:11.960 a bull that nobody wants to get on.

00:15:13.780 And, like, Bodacious back in the day, he was notorious for hitting guys in the face, and

00:15:18.180 I can't imagine when you drew him, you were happy about it.

00:15:20.980 It's kind of like this bull. 0.78

00:15:21.900 He's just kind of gross. 0.85

00:15:23.440 He's huge. 0.94

00:15:24.500 He's about 2,100 pounds, and he's just, when you see your name by him or you see you got 1.00

00:15:28.580 him, you're just like, fuck me. 1.00

00:15:30.720 Damn. 1.00

00:15:31.180 Just a big, scary monster. 1.00

00:15:32.620 He's a bad boy, huh? 0.56

00:15:34.180 Yeah.

00:15:34.640 And do they breed him?

00:15:35.640 Like, do you know who their parents are?

00:15:37.060 Do you get the lineage on him or anything like that?

00:15:38.940 Yeah, they have a, I guess, a website and paperwork on them and all sorts of things.

00:15:46.280 You can see their granddaddy, their great, great granddaddy.

00:15:48.680 They blood test them.

00:15:50.440 They DNA test these bulls to make sure. 0.90

00:15:53.460 This is all High Chaparral.

00:15:54.500 If somebody's trying to sell you a son of Bodacious, you want to be able to DNA test it

00:15:57.900 and make sure that you can go back and actually confirm that that really is a son of that bull

00:16:02.360 or whatever.

00:16:03.540 Look at that thing, man. 0.99

00:16:05.440 He's miserable. 0.99

00:16:06.160 Look at the thighs on that thing. 1.00

00:16:07.900 It reminded me of this girl I went to school with, actually.

00:16:09.960 Yeah?

00:16:10.480 Yeah.

00:16:10.640 Dude, yeah, this girl named Jessica. 1.00

00:16:11.620 She brought a lasso to school every day.

00:16:13.480 Really?

00:16:13.960 Yeah.

00:16:14.360 Yeah.

00:16:14.760 And Sadie Hawkins, bro, she would just rope somebody up, dude. 1.00

00:16:17.780 If it was time for a dance, bro, you didn't have a chance.

00:16:19.960 That's right.

00:16:20.460 You wasn't asking her.

00:16:21.400 It was a country girl.

00:16:22.280 Oh, she would bring you right in and that was it, dude.

00:16:24.660 Sometimes it's got to be that way, though.

00:16:25.900 Oh, yeah.

00:16:26.480 Because I was shy.

00:16:27.340 Like, I looked for girls like that. 1.00

00:16:28.660 Yeah.

00:16:28.740 Like, I'd be in the corner, like, at the wall while everybody else was dancing, like, just hoping

00:16:32.740 she would show up.

00:16:33.620 Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:16:34.180 Because I'm the only guy here by myself, so why not?

00:16:36.840 Oh, dude, you're talking to a guy.

00:16:38.420 I used to go eight seconds on the chaperone, man, if no girls asked me. 0.98

00:16:42.740 Hey, girl, how you doing?

00:16:44.160 Oh, sorry.

00:16:45.620 So, are there rumors of bulls that are out there that are coming up that you're like,

00:16:49.300 oh, man, that's the next big, you know?

00:16:52.180 Yeah, they have a competition for little bulls.

00:16:54.920 They put a dummy on them.

00:16:56.680 It's like a 30-pound dummy, and they can click it off with a button, and they let those

00:17:00.600 bulls buck, and they mark them, and they have their own conversation.

00:17:03.900 So, you see a lot coming up from there, and those are bucking dudes, man.

00:17:07.400 They are, when they're that young, that little, and have that much athletic ability to them,

00:17:12.600 they're freaking incredible.

00:17:14.160 So, it sounds like there's a lot of respect for the animal, huh?

00:17:17.480 Oh, yeah.

00:17:18.020 If we didn't have those bulls, we wouldn't have a job. 0.98

00:17:20.320 Yeah.

00:17:20.560 But would we ride sheep on Sundays?

00:17:22.240 Yeah, that'd be a little bit.

00:17:23.440 I mean, I'd watch it, but, you know.

00:17:25.640 Gosh, 80 bucks.

00:17:26.300 Yeah, dude.

00:17:27.400 Imagine the big sheep people would start grooming them. 0.97

00:17:31.240 Sheep breeding would be a big deal nowadays if that was the case, huh?

00:17:33.840 Picking horns on them, putting Viking helmets, tying them to their head.

00:17:36.560 You gotta paint them different colors, put numbers on them like race cars.

00:17:39.300 Why wouldn't you?

00:17:40.480 Oh, that Tony Stewart sheep, man.

00:17:42.420 That thing's dangerous, dude.

00:17:44.300 Smoke has got kind of a gray color to it. 0.99

00:17:46.600 That thing will kill you, bro. 0.88

00:17:48.680 That's a bad ram. 1.00

00:17:49.600 That's a bad ram right there.

00:17:50.980 Bad ram.

00:17:51.680 So, you're in there.

00:17:52.840 Now, what do you do with your hand?

00:17:53.980 A lot of times, I see the guys, do you tie your hand in, or what goes on there?

00:17:57.780 Yeah, it's a rope, and it's pretty much tree sap we put on the rope to help us hang on to them.

00:18:02.820 Okay, so you're not tied, really?

00:18:04.600 Yeah, we're tied in there.

00:18:05.780 And it's, I mean, that's the scariest thing is that you are tied in there, and you are in there for the long haul.

00:18:11.420 It's a rope.

00:18:12.560 It just goes around kind of their brisket area, and you put it across your hand, and then you wrap it around your hand, so you're, like, locked in there.

00:18:19.860 And your legs are what?

00:18:21.900 They're in?

00:18:23.300 They're in chaps, but those chaps really do nothing for you. 1.00

00:18:26.480 They might protect you from a little skiff, but they're just there for show, really. 0.98

00:18:30.480 But they're loose.

00:18:31.000 They're not strapped to anything.

00:18:32.300 Okay, so you're not tied onto the legs.

00:18:34.420 They've got to be able to move their legs.

00:18:36.060 The only thing you're tied in with is your hands, so the rest of your body's free to move.

00:18:40.220 And that's when you see guys, they're hanging by their hand once they get bucked off is a hang-up, we call it.

00:18:45.180 Oh, and that's bad news, Bears, huh?

00:18:46.740 Yeah, that ain't good at all.

00:18:48.300 And is there a type of body type?

00:18:50.280 Sometimes I look at these guys' body types when they're on the bull, and it's like, okay, that guy looks like, you know, everything, like he's, his height.

00:18:58.500 Like, is there a body type that does best in the sport?

00:19:02.460 Yeah, shorter yards, a little better.

00:19:05.080 You want to be skinny, but you want to be as strong possible as you can be.

00:19:09.300 And then that's pretty much it, really.

00:19:11.720 You don't want to be overweight, and you don't want to be too tall.

00:19:13.760 It makes it tougher.

00:19:14.620 Yeah.

00:19:14.940 See, I couldn't do it.

00:19:16.360 I'm overweight.

00:19:17.180 I can't do it.

00:19:18.000 I waited out of the deal.

00:19:20.420 That was my problem.

00:19:21.960 So when a guy, like, say, just gets on a bull, what are some things that you're talking about, like, from the announcer?

00:19:26.440 Honestly, like, for him, it's pretty simple.

00:19:28.380 You know, here's a two-time world champ.

00:19:31.580 Like, last year, when he came back, because that's what people don't realize is, like, this is a guy that missed, what, nine events last year?

00:19:37.440 Nine out of our 26, 27 events that we have.

00:19:41.420 So he misses, essentially, you know, a big chunk of the season.

00:19:45.620 Broke his collarbone.

00:19:46.880 When he comes back, you know, he's got to fight his way back up.

00:19:50.500 So he's climbing the ranks.

00:19:51.720 And it's like, okay, this guy won two events.

00:19:53.960 He's now won three events.

00:19:55.360 You know, he missed all this season.

00:19:56.940 So when we got to the world finals in Vegas, man, it was the best race ever.

00:20:01.020 Because it was him and a Brazilian kid, Jose.

00:20:04.100 And it literally came down to the last day.

00:20:06.360 It came down to Sunday, which, you know, a lot of sports will fabricate that, you know, it's going to be tough.

00:20:11.760 It's going to come down to the final shot.

00:20:13.300 And we know it's not because somebody's going to pull away.

00:20:16.200 That didn't happen last year.

00:20:17.340 So it was such a fun story to tell.

00:20:18.800 But, like, we talk about some of the injuries that they've dealt with, you know, how good they've done.

00:20:24.260 Everybody's got a different story.

00:20:25.600 You know, like if a guy just had a baby two weeks ago, he's had to leave home.

00:20:29.520 Right.

00:20:29.740 You know, he's had to leave that baby at home, get on the road, go put his life on the line to buy diapers for that baby.

00:20:35.300 There's no guaranteed contracts in this sport.

00:20:37.320 It's so different than everything else, man.

00:20:39.100 Because, you know, these guys, they have to be successful.

00:20:41.540 They have to ride.

00:20:42.440 They have to win to make any money.

00:20:44.640 It's so different than every other sport in the world.

00:20:46.620 So there's no, like, oh, we're going to pay you for this whole season no matter what.

00:20:50.300 Nope.

00:20:50.720 If you do good enough, you'll get sponsors that'll pay you.

00:20:54.060 But that contract's based on your performance at the events and how many you go to.

00:20:58.620 So if you get hurt the first event of the year and you're out for the year, there's, in the contract, there's a little money you'll get.

00:21:04.520 But you're not getting paid.

00:21:06.220 You got to show up. 0.99

00:21:06.900 That's why, like, when you see a guy and he's riding with a broken leg, you know, or he's got a broken collarbone and just going to throw some tape on that shit and go try it again. 0.99

00:21:15.660 Like, they do it because that's the only way they get paid. 0.99

00:21:18.620 Wow.

00:21:18.900 They're the toughest in the world, man.

00:21:20.660 And a collarbone sounds like, is that one of the premier injuries?

00:21:23.420 Is that something you really don't want to get?

00:21:24.940 Like, what are some of the injuries that you'll face and what are some that can really take you out?

00:21:30.520 You know, of course, broken bones, but groins a lot of the time.

00:21:35.240 Old bull riders and bull riders nowadays, it's so common.

00:21:39.320 Torn groins, torn knees, stuff like that really sucks because you can't just go in and with a broken leg, you could plate it and you could probably ride in two weeks.

00:21:46.840 But torn groin, I've sat out three months before with the torn groin, just waiting on it to heal because you can't squeeze your bull if you don't got a torn groin.

00:21:54.060 And that's your bread and butter right there.

00:21:56.220 So that's what you're doing.

00:21:57.500 So when you're on there, you're squeezing your legs in.

00:22:00.640 Oh, yeah.

00:22:01.020 You're trying to stay on. 0.99

00:22:02.580 You've got your hand locked in down tight in your crotch. 0.97

00:22:06.080 It's, yeah, you slide up so it's right there. 0.91

00:22:08.800 You're kind of up on your legs right there.

00:22:10.900 Yeah. 1.00

00:22:11.720 Damn. 1.00

00:22:12.480 Crazy. 1.00

00:22:13.320 We've got a question that came in right here.

00:22:14.900 Let's get to this one right here.

00:22:16.240 He actually answered it.

00:22:17.300 It was what was his worst injury.

00:22:20.000 So it was the groin.

00:22:20.960 Yep.

00:22:21.620 Oh, no.

00:22:22.420 So that's probably, that's about the longest I've stayed out.

00:22:25.900 But in 2017, 2017 at New York, I got stepped on.

00:22:31.300 I broke four ribs, collapsed my lung, and lacerated my liver.

00:22:35.180 And it was about three weeks out from World Finals.

00:22:37.840 So I had to ride at the World Finals that year with broke ribs and that stuff.

00:22:42.660 You know what I just realized?

00:22:44.000 Like both of your world title seasons were like when you got really, really hurt.

00:22:48.260 Mm-hmm.

00:22:48.640 No, knock on wood.

00:22:51.480 I don't.

00:22:52.520 This is real wood.

00:22:54.200 This is real wood.

00:22:54.300 In all my.

00:22:54.820 It's a nice table.

00:22:55.540 Thank you, man.

00:22:55.920 Yeah, we got it done.

00:22:57.120 You guys have done it.

00:22:57.780 I'm nice.

00:22:58.120 I love this place.

00:22:58.760 In my four years of the PBR, I've never won a full season healthy, which is expected

00:23:03.760 as a bull rider.

00:23:04.480 But there's guys that'll go to, they might miss one event a year.

00:23:07.740 But over the course of four years, one of the other broadcasters on CBS that does PBR,

00:23:15.120 he totaled it up, and I've missed a total of one year.

00:23:18.260 I've sat out three months my first year, three, four months my next year, three months in 2018,

00:23:24.900 and three months last year. 0.99

00:23:26.420 Damn. 0.99

00:23:26.680 All sorts of. 0.99

00:23:27.720 So is it pretty common that somebody doesn't make it through the entire season?

00:23:31.820 Doesn't make every race?

00:23:32.780 Man, you're hard to find somebody that's going to stay healthy and make it to every single

00:23:36.120 event because it is, I mean, it's just, you're, the little things, like he was talking about

00:23:40.080 in a shoot, you're surrounded by solid steel and you're getting banged around.

00:23:44.240 ACLs, MCLs are pretty common.

00:23:46.120 Groins are pretty common.

00:23:47.920 And when you're doing this three, four, five times a weekend, every single weekend, even

00:23:53.160 when the televised tour is not on, like when they're not going to a place like LA or Anaheim,

00:23:58.200 they're going somewhere and they're getting on practice bulls.

00:24:00.540 You get hurt in a practice band too.

00:24:01.960 So I don't know.

00:24:03.120 I think it's impossible for a guy to stay 100% healthy all year long.

00:24:07.120 Is there a practice that they've made, like a mechanical practice that's actually helpful

00:24:13.680 that works?

00:24:14.520 Yeah, there's mechanical barrels that go up and down, kind of give you the feeling of one.

00:24:18.460 There's mechanical bulls that spin, all that sorts of stuff.

00:24:22.400 I don't usually ride the mechanical ones.

00:24:24.180 There's a barrel made that's on springs that goes up and down to kind of give you the rhythm

00:24:28.620 feeling.

00:24:28.940 I got one of those at both my places and I'll get on that a couple of times during

00:24:33.320 the week just to give myself the feel and kind of do that.

00:24:36.960 And what, we got a question that came right here.

00:24:38.980 Let's get to this one right here.

00:24:43.560 Yes, what up, Theo?

00:24:44.820 My question for Jess is what kind of training regimen do you have to follow to be a bull rider?

00:24:49.780 Are you out at bars riding mechanical bulls or are you lifting weights every day?

00:24:53.780 Gang, gang.

00:24:54.560 Gang, bro.

00:24:55.040 That's a great question.

00:24:56.400 Great hair.

00:24:56.820 Yeah, that's a good hair, man.

00:24:57.920 Yeah, I got that shirt on, too.

00:25:00.240 What is it, man?

00:25:01.120 What do you guys, what do you do?

00:25:03.040 I just kind of work out.

00:25:04.680 There's guys that can drink beer during the week and not work out at all and it works for

00:25:09.240 them.

00:25:10.420 So many guys, different things work for them, but what works for me is I got a little sweat

00:25:15.020 shop.

00:25:15.480 It's a 12 by 20 building. 0.98

00:25:16.900 I got one in Montana and one in Texas at our places and I get in there, crank that sucker

00:25:21.580 up to 110 degrees, get in there and lift weights, work out.

00:25:24.960 So I'm grinding all week long to come here.

00:25:28.660 There's one guy that that works for.

00:25:30.580 It don't work for anybody else when you think about it.

00:25:32.440 There's one guy that can get away with drinking and not working out.

00:25:36.460 Everybody else is pretty regimen right now.

00:25:38.220 Two all together.

00:25:39.900 Okay, yeah, maybe two.

00:25:40.880 Two all the time.

00:25:41.540 And has it changed a lot?

00:25:42.740 Because in stand-up comedy, it used to be that you had to be out doing drugs, you had to be

00:25:47.820 partying.

00:25:48.660 There was a lifestyle that kind of went associated with getting up on the stage at night.

00:25:54.060 And now it's changed.

00:25:55.680 A lot of the comedians now are sober, a lot of them.

00:25:58.520 I mean, Joe Rogan is a fitness guru.

00:26:00.700 I mean, he's-

00:26:01.260 Shredded. 0.96

00:26:01.940 Yeah, he's shredded.

00:26:02.540 You seen him with his shirt off the other day?

00:26:03.760 Dude, I'd love to see you do four seconds on Joe Rogan.

00:26:06.080 Oh my God, man. 0.93

00:26:07.340 That dude's a monster. 0.98

00:26:08.320 Yeah. 1.00

00:26:08.660 He's a beast.

00:26:09.280 I wonder if anybody would ever have a bull named Joe Rogan, bro.

00:26:11.480 That would be amazing.

00:26:12.440 We'll make it happen.

00:26:13.380 We'll make it happen.

00:26:14.320 Just J-O-R-O-G-A-N. 1.00

00:26:16.120 Tell me he's cool.

00:26:17.340 Oh, he's really cool, man.

00:26:18.440 But he's just, he's also inspiring.

00:26:20.420 That's the thing.

00:26:21.020 Like, I think five years ago, people thought, a lot of people thought, oh, he's just this

00:26:24.580 meathead guy who's just, you know, doing a podcast.

00:26:27.620 But he's such a good, he remembers everything.

00:26:31.120 And he's so curious, man.

00:26:32.880 Like, he always, he really wants to know.

00:26:35.200 Yeah.

00:26:35.360 And then he retains the information.

00:26:37.060 He's so intelligent.

00:26:38.420 And I love the fact that, like, he does the podcast and he doesn't care who's on there.

00:26:42.660 He doesn't care if you're Democrat, Republican, where you come from.

00:26:46.160 Yeah.

00:26:46.220 Like, he's invested.

00:26:47.900 Yeah, he is.

00:26:48.560 And he really is.

00:26:49.500 It's not like a joke with him.

00:26:50.840 He really is just trying to learn.

00:26:53.120 Yeah.

00:26:53.480 Genuine.

00:26:53.920 He's really trying to learn, which is cool.

00:26:55.640 Like, I struggle with a lot of times I'll bring my own thoughts and perspectives into

00:26:59.860 things, but he really does a good job of just staying, trying to learn.

00:27:03.660 Yeah, that's cool.

00:27:05.400 So, is it different now, though, like, where a lot of guys are working out more?

00:27:09.740 It's a lot more like, okay, we're in this.

00:27:11.580 This is a sport.

00:27:12.340 We're in this to make money.

00:27:13.240 This is my livelihood.

00:27:13.980 It's not like, you know, I'm drinking, I'm sad at the bar, like, you know, the kind of

00:27:17.740 the country song vibe that used to go along with it.

00:27:20.160 Yeah.

00:27:20.880 Today's bull riders are a lot of athletes.

00:27:22.780 Back in the day, PBR used to be sponsored by Bud Light, and they'd bring Bud Light in

00:27:27.580 after the bull riders, and everyone just kind of would drink and just hang out.

00:27:31.420 Not very many people worked out, and they loved going to the bars.

00:27:34.480 Not that we don't still, but back in the day, it was kind of just a routine and ritual.

00:27:39.200 After the bull riding, everyone goes to the bars.

00:27:40.920 We have fun.

00:27:41.920 Ride bulls the next day.

00:27:42.920 Dude, I've been around for, like, a dozen years or so, and the two generations I've seen,

00:27:49.040 it's night and day different.

00:27:50.620 When I first came in, it was like, man, how do you keep up with these guys?

00:27:54.200 Because it was the Wild West, and those guys, they'll tell stories now, and like you say,

00:27:58.580 most of those guys are sober now, and they're like, holy crap, how did we live through that?

00:28:02.220 Now, it's like, you see the guys, and, you know, they're waking up in the morning,

00:28:05.520 they're having breakfast, they're going to the gym, they're doing yoga and whatever they do

00:28:09.380 during the day, and then they're showing up and they're treating it like a sport

00:28:12.420 because they've realized that the bulls are getting better.

00:28:15.600 The bulls are getting better and better and more athletic, and so they have to.

00:28:18.800 They have to step their game up, you know?

00:28:20.800 Is it hard, though?

00:28:21.840 Because sometimes it's tough as a community to let go of that old lifestyle.

00:28:25.100 It's tough.

00:28:25.540 Like, I'll feel like a wimp sometimes, you know, in like a psychological way sometimes.

00:28:30.160 Like, oh, I'm, you know, I'm sober.

00:28:31.860 Because you're not hanging out with the guys afterwards or something like that.

00:28:34.320 Yeah, because you're not staying up all night and, yeah, smoking, just partying all night,

00:28:37.500 you know?

00:28:38.080 Oh, yeah.

00:28:39.040 Like, I would love to just, I would love if I could be as successful as I am with not 0.99

00:28:44.300 working out at all, drinking beer, just eating shit food. 0.99

00:28:47.720 Yeah. 0.99

00:28:48.000 Because I love candy and stuff, but I hold myself back from eating it all because it ain't

00:28:52.500 going to help with my riding.

00:28:53.500 Wouldn't everybody, though?

00:28:54.680 Like, everybody wants to be successful and not work.

00:28:57.680 I mean.

00:28:57.940 Oh, I get on that bowl of the mouth full of nerds, bro.

00:29:00.660 You know? 1.00

00:29:01.320 I put two Starbursts in my jaw and get on that bastard, dude. 1.00

00:29:04.640 Yeah. 1.00

00:29:05.440 Gobstoppers.

00:29:06.440 Gobstoppers back in the day.

00:29:07.300 Gobstoppers is more of a rideable candy.

00:29:08.360 Kids don't know about gobstoppers, man. 1.00

00:29:09.940 Dude, when you got on a gobstopper, dude, and you really went in on that bastard. 0.98

00:29:12.780 And the ones that changed, like, flavor halfway through. 0.99

00:29:15.200 Oh, yeah.

00:29:16.100 Good old days. 1.00

00:29:16.840 God damn, it was like a threesome for your tongue. 1.00

00:29:18.760 Oh, like everything. 1.00

00:29:20.420 It was.

00:29:21.620 Did, uh, how much, how much money does a rider make?

00:29:25.620 You know, you don't have to exaggerate it.

00:29:27.040 I'm not trying to pick into your life, but.

00:29:28.800 Yeah.

00:29:29.240 No, it's, uh, it's just, it's so different.

00:29:31.760 Those lower end riders, um, if you're at the bottom of the top 35, you're still making

00:29:36.700 $100,000, $200,000 a year just because there's so much money in the PBR.

00:29:41.460 Whereas if you win the world title, it's a million dollar bonus.

00:29:44.140 Wow.

00:29:44.760 And winning the world finals, it's a $300,000 bonus.

00:29:48.360 There's so many incentives with winning an event, winning the world finals, everything

00:29:54.040 that, uh, if you have a really good year, you can make $1.8 million.

00:29:58.580 See, that's where I get mad because they start talking about, you know, the, the, the world

00:30:03.280 champ gets a million dollar bonus. 0.99

00:30:05.040 There's a guy sitting on the bench for the Knicks that sucks. 0.98

00:30:07.940 That's making a million dollars. 0.99

00:30:09.380 And these guys are way tougher, way better.

00:30:12.100 You know, I think the sport's way more interesting, you know, it's way more intense.

00:30:16.100 And like, that bothers me.

00:30:17.120 I want all these guys to make millions.

00:30:19.000 Is it growing though?

00:30:19.880 Money's got it.

00:30:20.420 More money's got to start coming into it.

00:30:22.120 Oh yeah.

00:30:22.880 It's all about getting new eyeballs.

00:30:24.480 Yeah.

00:30:24.760 More eyeballs.

00:30:25.800 Um, is there another country that's coming along with bull riding?

00:30:28.940 That's like that, you don't, you don't think about, you know, you think of it as, I mean,

00:30:32.620 especially growing up in America, you think of it as an American kind of sport.

00:30:35.480 Is that true?

00:30:36.280 Is that? 0.99

00:30:37.120 No, shoot.

00:30:37.800 We got Canada, Australia, Brazil, Mexico.

00:30:41.860 Everyone has the PBR association there and they ride in it, but the toughest ones are

00:30:46.480 the Brazilians.

00:30:47.240 They're unbelievable.

00:30:48.380 They have to, man.

00:30:49.660 It's their life.

00:30:50.480 Like they leave everything.

00:30:52.120 You know, you think about it, Brazil's not a really, uh, they're not a really rich country.

00:30:56.520 Yeah.

00:30:56.720 You know, and a lot of these guys have grown up with nothing.

00:30:58.800 And so they leave home, they come over here and it's like, this is all they do.

00:31:03.160 So you'll see a bunch of Brazilians living in the same little circle. 0.51

00:31:06.060 They get up, they work out, they practice, they, they eat together.

00:31:09.360 They do everything together.

00:31:10.620 They don't have all the distractions of the rest of the world that, you know, like just seeing

00:31:14.480 our families and everything that we do normally.

00:31:16.800 Oh yeah.

00:31:17.240 They don't have it.

00:31:18.080 And so they're laser focused.

00:31:20.280 They're so good, man.

00:31:21.160 There's something, there's a, there's a special value in having that struggle and having that

00:31:24.800 extra chip that you can't, you can't imitate it.

00:31:27.900 Like, even as I find, as I get a little more comfortable, like started making some money

00:31:31.220 this past year, it's hard to go back to the, it's hard to get that same mentality of when

00:31:37.220 you have nothing.

00:31:38.120 Yeah.

00:31:38.300 When everything is on the line, you know, when you have to stay, like, it's like a chip

00:31:42.400 inside of yourself that you can't, I mean, it's hard to replicate it.

00:31:46.240 Yeah.

00:31:46.720 You know?

00:31:47.200 I think it's that way with anything though.

00:31:48.580 Like, like once you see a certain level, like even day to day, like if I have a really

00:31:53.340 good Monday, I don't want Tuesday to suck, you know?

00:31:56.300 Cause then I feel like the week's wasted.

00:31:57.800 So it's like, you got to maintain this level.

00:31:59.920 That's why they always say like, you know, people that are superstars are usually the loneliest

00:32:04.560 people because they push theirself to this level and it's so hard to come back down.

00:32:08.780 You know what I mean?

00:32:09.540 Yeah.

00:32:09.780 And so I see that with these guys, like they're constantly pushing themselves and if they buck

00:32:13.520 off one bull, it like ruins their week and they got to forget about it and turn around

00:32:18.300 cause they got to do it again tomorrow.

00:32:20.080 If you have a shitty ride in the first ride, right?

00:32:22.320 So Friday, you don't have a good ride.

00:32:23.900 They call it a ride.

00:32:24.740 What do they call it?

00:32:25.360 Yep.

00:32:25.440 Okay.

00:32:26.380 You have a tough ride at the first, the first go.

00:32:28.460 Do you have a chance in that Saturday to, to, to make it back up and to get into Sunday?

00:32:32.580 Yep.

00:32:32.900 Uh, so this event's a little different from normal.

00:32:35.460 Uh, they take the top 25 into the day two.

00:32:38.600 So if you're outside of the top 25 and you buck off your weekend's done, whereas I'm second

00:32:43.800 right now and I'm almost guaranteed to ride tomorrow, but on a regular weekend, you're

00:32:49.220 guaranteed too. 1.00

00:32:50.160 So if you suck Friday, you better forget that shit and just push it aside because you got 1.00

00:32:54.840 another one Saturday and you got to make the most of it. 1.00

00:32:57.080 And what does it do to your mentality?

00:32:58.580 If you have a tough Friday, does it affect it or are you able to kind of scrap and just get

00:33:02.320 right in?

00:33:02.900 That's the thing.

00:33:03.600 It's everyone.

00:33:04.740 It's 90% mental in bull riding.

00:33:06.360 You can put in all that work and it's not going to matter if you get to the bull riding

00:33:09.620 and you see your bull.

00:33:10.660 You're like, Oh man, I don't like the looks of him. 1.00

00:33:13.180 Then you're screwed. 0.96

00:33:14.180 You just got to be positive about everything. 0.98

00:33:16.580 Even if you buck off, you got to be like, well, I got tomorrow.

00:33:19.720 I got a good bull.

00:33:20.620 Even if he's not good, I'm going to make him good and I'm going to stay on him.

00:35:32.300 Now, back to your show.

00:35:35.260 When they open the gate, the zen is hitting me, man. 0.99

00:35:40.240 Good stuff.

00:35:41.120 Yeah, dude.

00:35:41.580 I remember the first time I ever did chewing tobacco.

00:35:43.940 It was like cherry skull or something.

00:35:45.980 And I did like a half a can.

00:35:47.520 I was trying to show my buddy up, right?

00:35:48.780 And I didn't know anything about it, dude.

00:35:50.040 And I had like my whole mouth was full of it.

00:35:51.920 How old were you?

00:35:52.660 I was probably about 14.

00:35:54.080 Really?

00:35:54.340 And my buddy took his mom's car.

00:35:56.400 We were going out.

00:35:57.200 We were partying.

00:35:57.940 We weren't really.

00:35:58.640 We were just driving around.

00:36:00.660 And I vomited out of the front window, out of the passenger side.

00:36:04.840 And he's like, dude, you can't sit up there anymore, bro.

00:36:06.820 You got to sit in the back.

00:36:08.040 I vomited out of both of the back windows.

00:36:10.480 Yeah.

00:36:11.100 And so on the side of the car, we went and we hung out at night.

00:36:13.760 And then we went and parked the car in the morning.

00:36:16.000 His mom thought he'd been partying with a whole group of people because there's vomit out of every window.

00:36:20.200 And they didn't believe it.

00:36:21.500 He's like, no, it was just Theo, man.

00:36:23.260 He just, he wasn't doing real well.

00:36:25.040 I got my first tobacco.

00:36:25.980 But his mom still doesn't believe to this day.

00:36:27.720 She's like, there's no way one child vomited out of three windows.

00:36:30.980 My first tobacco, I was two.

00:36:33.160 My dad left it laying there.

00:36:35.120 And I thought it would be a good idea to just put it in my mouth, take a drink, whatever it was.

00:36:39.640 Not a good idea.

00:36:40.600 Puked.

00:36:41.260 Came out both ends.

00:36:42.680 Dad took me outside.

00:36:43.600 Garden hosed me off.

00:36:44.840 Ran around naked the rest of the day.

00:36:46.480 It was a pretty successful day. 0.83

00:36:48.380 Mom still hates him.

00:36:49.840 It's fine.

00:36:50.200 Were you two or 22?

00:36:51.700 Yeah, let's be honest, man.

00:36:53.560 Two sounds long, bro.

00:36:55.400 It was in college.

00:36:57.160 When you leave the shoot, right, what do you look at?

00:37:00.600 What do you look, are you looking like as your, because sometimes they say like if you're in the gym and you're doing squats, they say look at the ceiling or something.

00:37:07.620 You know, there's like a place for your focus.

00:37:08.960 What is it like?

00:37:09.560 You stare at their neck muscle, that big hump they got on them.

00:37:12.680 You pretty much stare at that because their shoulders is what you follow.

00:37:16.220 If you look at their head, their stumbles sling their head everywhere. 0.99

00:37:19.220 So if you get too focused on that, you're going to go cross-eyed during the damn ride. 0.96

00:37:23.500 So if you look at their shoulders, and you don't even really go off of what you see. 0.98

00:37:28.300 It's all feel, but that's the best focus point.

00:37:31.680 Just looking at their shoulders.

00:37:32.820 Yep, looking at their shoulders.

00:37:33.620 Stay right down in there. 0.95

00:37:34.180 Yep, it's pretty much just, you don't even know what's going on, but that's where you look.

00:37:37.860 And at a certain point, can you hear the crowd?

00:37:39.640 Can you hear when it's going good?

00:37:41.540 I just, I don't hear much when I'm riding.

00:37:43.700 You know, it's kind of, and you want to say you hear the whistle, but you dang near don't

00:37:48.480 even hear that.

00:37:49.660 And it's just become routine that when it gets around to that eight second clock, you

00:37:54.460 know it's time to get off.

00:37:55.560 And at eight seconds, what happens then?

00:37:58.800 A buzzer sounds, a whistle, what goes on?

00:38:00.680 A buzzer sounds in the arena, and then it's your job to get off them without getting killed.

00:38:05.500 So it almost gets harder then.

00:38:08.000 That's crazy, but you just did your job, and it's like, okay, good job.

00:38:12.900 No, but you still got to get off, get away, not get hooked, ran over.

00:38:16.020 The worst part of the job is before and after you get to work for these guys.

00:38:20.720 But we're lucky.

00:38:22.220 Like, we've got bullfighters out there that are there to try to distract the bull and

00:38:25.220 make sure they get away.

00:38:26.540 But it's not always that easy.

00:38:28.060 What's the way to dismount?

00:38:29.760 So how do you do that?

00:38:31.480 You pretty much, whatever hand you're riding with, you go away from it.

00:38:35.460 And, well, you go into it, I guess.

00:38:37.340 You go towards it.

00:38:38.500 And you kind of wait for that bull to kick, and you kind of lean back and throw your leg

00:38:42.300 over his back at the same time and kind of let him throw you out there.

00:38:45.920 And ideally, you land on your feet, but it's kind of rare if you land on your feet, really. 0.99

00:38:49.560 Damn. 0.99

00:38:50.380 And the second you hit the ground, you're scurrying off. 0.99

00:38:52.560 Yeah, a lot of times you see that just kind of right in the back.

00:38:54.600 Yeah, get the hell out of there.

00:38:55.720 Yeah, move. 1.00

00:38:56.960 Damn. 1.00

00:38:58.380 That's wild. 1.00

00:38:58.920 And so when the bull stepped on, you got stepped on last year, you said?

00:39:02.180 2017.

00:39:03.080 2017.

00:39:03.840 Yeah, I got stepped on, and it, I mean, of course, it took my breath away, and it was 0.99

00:39:07.860 like, oh, shit. 0.99

00:39:08.940 Did you know what had happened? 1.00

00:39:10.080 Oh, yeah. 0.99

00:39:10.720 Right when it happened, I was like, oh, fuck, I just broke everything in there. 0.98

00:39:14.460 And that's the scariest part, getting stepped on, is you don't know if it just punctured 0.99

00:39:17.740 something, what. 0.98

00:39:18.920 That's the scariest damn thing. 0.97

00:39:20.740 And I rolled over, and that bull was right there, and that bullfighter went in and took 0.98

00:39:25.120 him away.

00:39:25.960 But then I had to get up and run out of the arena, essentially, with four broke ribs,

00:39:31.580 collapsed lung, and lacerated liver. 0.99

00:39:33.120 Damn. 1.00

00:39:34.120 So if you lay in there, you're screwed. 1.00

00:39:36.420 If you got a broke leg, you got to get the hell out of there. 0.94

00:39:39.200 And is the most common thing when they step on you, is it usually, I guess you don't know

00:39:43.320 where they're going to step, is no.

00:39:44.680 Yep.

00:39:45.380 It's usually broke ribs.

00:39:46.640 Yeah.

00:39:46.980 Broke ribs, you can guarantee every time you get stepped on, pretty much. 1.00

00:39:50.100 Damn. 1.00

00:39:51.300 God dang. 1.00

00:39:52.100 It's wild.

00:39:53.180 I don't see NFL guys running around with busted spleens.

00:39:56.620 You don't see it anywhere else.

00:39:58.160 And I think that that's kind of the intrigue, like I said, that brings new people in.

00:40:02.260 That's why it's the fastest growing sport, because you don't see that.

00:40:05.320 You don't see guys getting carted off.

00:40:07.660 In our arena, rarely do you see a stretcher, because the guys want to walk out.

00:40:12.840 Yeah.

00:40:13.120 If they've got busted ribs, they've got a busted spleen, they still want to walk out.

00:40:18.060 They don't want to help.

00:40:18.900 Yeah.

00:40:19.080 I mean, and I don't know if that's an old school kind of sign of weakness.

00:40:22.620 Or if it's just hurry up, because we've got to keep the show going, or what it is.

00:40:26.320 But it's crazy.

00:40:27.520 I've seen guys get up and walk out with broken necks.

00:40:29.900 Like, insane.

00:40:31.460 Insane injuries.

00:40:32.360 And probably that adrenaline's rushing at you so much, too, still, huh?

00:40:35.320 Oh, yeah.

00:40:36.060 Yeah, the only time I've been carted off, I got knocked out, actually.

00:40:39.500 And when I came to, I really didn't come to until I got me back to the sports med room.

00:40:44.860 But I guess I woke up out in the arena, and when I hit the ground, he kind of, he bent

00:40:50.020 me weird.

00:40:50.780 So I woke up out in the arena, and I didn't know what the hell I was saying, but I was 0.99

00:40:54.160 saying, oh, my fucking back hurts. 0.98

00:40:56.660 And they're like, what? 0.99

00:40:57.560 Where?

00:40:57.860 And I'm like, I don't know.

00:40:58.820 I was just, I didn't know what the hell I was saying, because I was still knocked out,

00:41:02.640 essentially.

00:41:03.560 And they're like, oh, God, well, we've got to cart him out.

00:41:05.900 His back might be broke.

00:41:07.100 And then they get me in the sports med room, and I really come to, and I'm like, what the 0.98

00:41:11.080 fuck am I doing on a stretcher? 0.96

00:41:13.040 They're like, well, you said your back hurt. 1.00

00:41:15.460 I was like, fuck, I don't know what I was saying. 0.99

00:41:17.240 I just now realize what's really going on. 0.99

00:41:19.620 So that's the only time I've been carted away, because essentially, I was just speaking mumbo

00:41:24.000 jumbo, because I was still out.

00:41:25.160 It's like being drunk.

00:41:26.280 You can't hold me accountable.

00:41:27.700 Yeah.

00:41:27.980 You know, when you've been stepped on.

00:41:29.320 Yeah.

00:41:29.600 Do they have two riders on one bull at the same time?

00:41:32.140 Do they ever do that?

00:41:32.800 I've seen it before.

00:41:33.820 Yeah?

00:41:34.060 Not at our events, but when you're dicking around in the practice pen, anything goes.

00:41:38.420 And so is that a sport you think that'll grow into something?

00:41:41.200 Like, is that a possible thing?

00:41:42.180 Man, I hope so.

00:41:43.400 Like a tag team kind of thing?

00:41:44.640 Can you imagine?

00:41:45.940 Like, you just start putting teams together?

00:41:48.180 Dude, my brother and I used to sit on the toilet at the same time.

00:41:50.380 We were kids sometimes.

00:41:51.420 Facing each other?

00:41:52.120 No, no.

00:41:52.720 Yeah, you couldn't face each other.

00:41:54.160 No, back to back, dude.

00:41:54.540 You have to go back to back, right?

00:41:55.680 Yeah, come on, man.

00:41:56.540 Have some respect.

00:41:57.320 Well, I mean, like, toilet's not that big.

00:42:00.860 I know it's not that big, man.

00:42:02.100 You gotta have good aim.

00:42:03.000 Dude, we used to go over to this kid Roy's house, and he would play all these games.

00:42:06.260 He was kind of a, now in hindsight, I think he was kind of a homoerotic kind of gentleman, 1.00

00:42:10.120 you know?

00:42:10.920 Or he preferred men as lovers, you know?

00:42:12.700 Right.

00:42:13.300 But when we were kids, we didn't know.

00:42:14.840 Right.

00:42:14.940 And he would make us get in his bathtub, and like, he would play Battleship or whatever.

00:42:18.560 And he would get in his toilet and be like the captain from the toilet.

00:42:21.760 Really?

00:42:22.240 Yeah.

00:42:22.480 Like a hat and everything?

00:42:23.720 No.

00:42:24.460 He might have, I don't know if he had like a captain's hat or something, but he,

00:42:27.300 he would just get in there and bark orders at us.

00:42:29.420 What'd you say his name was?

00:42:30.340 Roy.

00:42:30.780 Big Roy.

00:42:30.900 Don't you think like everybody has a Roy in their life at some time, though?

00:42:33.840 Oh, yeah, bro.

00:42:34.340 Like somehow, someway, somewhere?

00:42:36.320 Yeah.

00:42:36.500 Yeah, this dude, I mean, he, yeah, he would say, oh, the seas are getting high and stuff,

00:42:40.280 and like, we'd have to turn on the water and make it all like crazy. 0.98

00:42:42.780 It was just dumb. 0.97

00:42:43.300 You never had to like stick your face in the water and like blow bubbles, did you? 0.99

00:42:46.340 Like pretend you were out?

00:42:47.440 Like the motorboat?

00:42:49.120 No, it never got, it never escalated.

00:42:50.520 Start the engine!

00:42:51.420 You got that crazy?

00:42:51.900 Yeah, it never escalated, but he'd be in the toilet just yelling stuff at us, dude.

00:42:55.080 He was kind of a miscreant.

00:42:56.100 So it was like he was the captain and you were the seaman.

00:42:58.420 Yeah, yeah.

00:42:59.140 Yeah, we were, man.

00:43:02.300 We were.

00:43:02.700 Bless his heart.

00:43:04.700 Yeah, bless something, dude.

00:43:05.840 He was a wildcat.

00:43:06.840 He ended up going into the military, dude.

00:43:08.660 Really?

00:43:09.080 Yeah, so he got in there, man.

00:43:11.540 That's cool.

00:43:12.200 So now he's a legit captain.

00:43:13.760 Yeah, now he is.

00:43:14.720 He wasn't joking. 0.97

00:43:15.560 He wasn't fucking around back in the day. 0.98

00:43:17.260 He had his mind set and he was going for it. 0.99

00:43:19.580 You were basically his little plastic green army, man. 0.96

00:43:22.420 He was just practicing for the real thing.

00:43:25.160 You contributed.

00:43:26.680 Basically, you were in the service.

00:43:28.240 Yeah, dude.

00:43:28.620 I mean, you helped prep him for a career. 1.00

00:43:30.840 That's good shit, man. 0.98

00:43:32.240 Thank you for your service. 0.99

00:43:33.080 I never thought about it like that.

00:43:35.000 Because, yeah, he really went into military, man.

00:43:37.360 That's crazy. 1.00

00:43:38.020 Holy shit, he did it. 1.00

00:43:38.980 That's real good, man. 0.99

00:43:39.960 We got a question from a guy right here.

00:43:41.620 Here we go.

00:43:42.980 Yo, what up, Theo and Mr. Lockwood.

00:43:46.480 It's your boy, Blake, from Nebraska. 0.99

00:43:49.520 My question is, what's the craziest shit y'all ever rode? 0.99

00:43:54.480 Theo, you said you were from the straight animal belt. 0.99

00:43:59.820 I was wondering if you ever rode anything crazy, you know?

00:44:02.880 You know, not including big gals or anything like that. 0.98

00:44:08.820 Oh, yeah.

00:44:09.620 Gang, gang.

00:44:10.700 How high do you think that guy is right now?

00:44:13.160 He could be pretty high, man.

00:44:14.380 He's pretty high.

00:44:15.220 He could be pretty high.

00:44:16.980 Let me think.

00:44:18.600 What do you got?

00:44:19.620 I mean, I guess it's a bull probably is the craziest thing.

00:44:22.300 No.

00:44:23.180 I got, so at home during the winter when I was still living up at home, everyone around

00:44:28.120 the place traps, you know, traps, animals, coyotes for fur, foxes.

00:44:31.940 Well, one day we go out in the pasture where we had a trap set, a foot trap, and an antelope

00:44:37.620 was stuck in it. 0.92

00:44:38.320 We're like, oh shit, now we got to get this thing out of there. 1.00

00:44:41.320 And so we get it out, and I'm like, fuck it. 1.00

00:44:43.560 Get your Snapchat out. 1.00

00:44:44.560 I'm going to ride it up.

00:44:45.940 So I let this antelope get up, and I rode it off.

00:44:49.540 No way.

00:44:51.060 And did it have the same kind of feel?

00:44:52.560 Did it have the same kind of vibe, or what was going on?

00:44:54.380 No, it was freaking the hell out.

00:44:56.700 I mean, kind of sort of the same thing, but a lot smaller than a bull.

00:45:00.600 It was fun.

00:45:02.800 Dude, we had a boy, I talked about this.

00:45:04.540 We had a kid with no legs on our basketball team one time.

00:45:07.260 So we had a big black guy named Terrence, who was like our center on the team, and he

00:45:10.900 had to carry him for like half the game, and then we'd carry him around and try to get

00:45:14.760 him to get buckets, you know?

00:45:16.620 So that's about the craziest riding I've ever seen, because he would kind of wear him on

00:45:20.960 his back a little bit sometimes.

00:45:21.860 Like a backpack.

00:45:22.720 Yeah, like if he had to play defense, he would hold both of his arms down, and then he would

00:45:26.320 just play defense with the other arm, you know?

00:45:28.460 But the craziest thing I've ever been on, probably a strong woman one time in Indiana. 1.00

00:45:34.740 Really?

00:45:35.160 Yeah.

00:45:35.480 Because it gets cold and they like lift weights?

00:45:38.240 That kind of strong?

00:45:38.780 She had like, some women have that, they're kind of thick, but it's kind of like strong 1.00

00:45:43.040 fat kind of, you know?

00:45:44.360 Yeah.

00:45:44.580 Like the in-between, like power lifter strong.

00:45:46.420 Yeah, yeah.

00:45:47.040 Like they don't look like big veiny muscles, but like, you know, you can tell you don't 1.00

00:45:50.900 want to fuck with them. 0.99

00:45:51.560 And the fat is kind of tight, you know? 1.00

00:45:53.420 Some of you get that tight fat, which I really like, man.

00:45:56.160 Because it's not really fat.

00:45:57.240 Yeah, it's not really fat.

00:45:58.080 But it's not really muscle.

00:45:59.080 Yeah.

00:45:59.380 What is it?

00:45:59.900 It's like Wagyu, I think.

00:46:01.200 Yeah.

00:46:01.660 Which is good.

00:46:02.360 Yeah, which is really good.

00:46:03.420 There's a reason it's more expensive.

00:46:04.780 Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:46:06.560 So you get it.

00:46:07.560 Yeah, this girl was really Wagyu, man. 0.75

00:46:09.540 And I remember that being one kind of the largest thing that I've ever really kind of,

00:46:13.740 I guess, ridden, really.

00:46:15.120 I got on a camel one time at a county fair. 0.85

00:46:17.120 No bullshit. 0.92

00:46:17.860 It's where. 0.92

00:46:18.440 I believe you.

00:46:19.280 Because they started doing it for a photo shoot.

00:46:21.040 We were doing a rodeo and they were like, hey, we got to get a picture of you on this

00:46:24.180 camel.

00:46:24.800 And I'm scared of heights.

00:46:26.220 And then the camel like started kind of just jumping.

00:46:29.060 And I've never been so scared in my life.

00:46:31.960 Never.

00:46:32.440 Like I flew on and threw a snowstorm on the way here and the plane started doing this.

00:46:36.820 Wasn't as scary as being on the back of a camel that just started like popping up and

00:46:40.720 down.

00:46:41.520 Terrifying, man.

00:46:42.380 Like there's nowhere to go.

00:46:43.600 Can you imagine telling people you got bucked off a camel?

00:46:45.880 Like that's the worst thing you could ever do in your life.

00:46:48.220 I could imagine in some countries it's happening, man.

00:46:51.320 It's probably like a pride thing.

00:46:53.460 Yeah.

00:46:53.740 Like you're not somebody until you get bucked off a camel.

00:46:55.740 Yeah, until you get bucked off a camel.

00:46:57.080 Yeah.

00:46:57.280 Are there new animals that people are starting to ride besides bulls?

00:46:59.900 Is there anything else that's coming up like that you're seeing like in the world?

00:47:04.340 Not really.

00:47:05.080 You know, you just got your common bucking horses, bucking bulls.

00:47:08.260 But that's it.

00:47:11.060 And is there a difference when you're on the horses?

00:47:13.160 They call them broncos.

00:47:14.040 Is that right?

00:47:14.520 Yep.

00:47:14.720 So if you're on a bronco, is there a big difference between that kind of riding and

00:47:18.040 the bull riding?

00:47:18.880 It's definitely different.

00:47:20.080 You don't hang on by a rope.

00:47:21.880 You got a, you kind of got a rang.

00:47:24.280 It's, it's kind of connected to their face and it clips on.

00:47:28.380 It's like a halter that goes around them and you hold on by that and then you're in a saddle

00:47:32.520 instead of a rope around them and you got to keep yourself in that saddle.

00:47:36.160 So it's a lot different.

00:47:37.960 Is it tougher?

00:47:38.700 Is one tougher than the other?

00:47:41.020 I'd, I'd have to say Borod and just because you don't have a saddle that you can actually

00:47:44.860 sit in and keep yourself in.

00:47:46.300 You just hang on by that rope.

00:47:47.540 So in the bull, you're sitting on their back.

00:47:51.480 You're really, it's not a saddle that you're sitting in.

00:47:54.040 Nope.

00:47:54.400 It's just a pretty much a twine rope just stuck around them and your hands in it and that's

00:47:58.820 all you got to keep yourself on.

00:48:00.440 So you're not, so, but you're sitting, you're putting your legs into something on there or

00:48:04.140 no?

00:48:04.440 Nope.

00:48:04.820 Just around their, around their back and their sides.

00:48:08.780 That's it. 1.00

00:48:09.160 Damn. 0.99

00:48:09.980 Like there's nothing that is keeping you in there but your hand and your balance. 0.99

00:48:14.800 And do people, cause you're a young guy, you're 22, you said 23?

00:48:18.660 Do people, do older guys like, do they get upset?

00:48:23.040 Like how does that kind of go that you're a, is it a young guy's sport?

00:48:27.300 Yeah.

00:48:27.680 A hundred percent.

00:48:28.240 Like, you know, you've got to be able to, to not only bounce back from injury, but you've

00:48:33.960 got to be so quick.

00:48:35.040 And like, you see guys that have been around for 10 years or so, they start to get, those

00:48:38.680 injuries start to pile up and it starts to slow them down.

00:48:41.820 Just like with anything else, you know, like you start to compound all those injuries and

00:48:45.940 you know, your body doesn't react the way it used to.

00:48:48.220 And so it's definitely a young guy's sport.

00:48:50.740 You know, you hit, probably hit prime, what, like mid twenties?

00:48:54.540 Yep.

00:48:54.880 25, 26.

00:48:55.720 If a guy's 30, he's an old man in this sport.

00:48:59.720 And we got some, like we're lucky right now.

00:49:01.440 We've got a couple of guys that are like 36, 37.

00:49:04.320 I don't know how they do it.

00:49:05.480 Brazilians.

00:49:06.160 Yeah.

00:49:06.660 Wow.

00:49:07.340 They're different.

00:49:08.520 They're different, man.

00:49:09.340 They are, man.

00:49:09.820 They're so tough and they stay in such great shape.

00:49:12.240 It's different than any of us being 36, 37 riding bulls.

00:49:16.440 Is there discrepancy between like the American and the Brazilian riders?

00:49:20.140 Like, is there any like country beef a little bit or not really?

00:49:23.440 No, we have one.

00:49:24.480 One of the nicest guys ever.

00:49:25.440 We have one event, it's called the Global Cup, and we do it at AT&T Stadium where the

00:49:29.440 Cowboys play.

00:49:30.920 Wow.

00:49:31.300 And there's, yeah, it's crazy, man.

00:49:32.580 Think about that.

00:49:32.880 Next weekend.

00:49:33.560 Think about that. 0.99

00:49:34.260 Damn, so you're going to be there next weekend. 0.99

00:49:35.500 Yep. 0.99

00:49:35.820 Yep.

00:49:36.540 And that's it.

00:49:37.160 You'll see it on the big screens when you're there and everything. 0.99

00:49:39.320 Damn. 0.99

00:49:40.280 They take the football field out. 1.00

00:49:41.580 They put arena down there.

00:49:43.040 And every country has a team.

00:49:45.180 And so that's the only time all year long that you'll see guys like really raising that Brazilian 1.00

00:49:49.880 flag or the USA flag.

00:49:51.940 It's pretty cool because I feel like, you know, everybody wants something to cheer for.

00:49:55.300 Yeah, it is.

00:49:56.140 It's our Olympics, you know, essentially.

00:49:58.620 So.

00:49:58.940 Has it ever been an Olympic sport, Bull Roddy?

00:50:01.100 There.

00:50:01.620 When was it?

00:50:02.340 Back early thousands, late 90s?

00:50:04.280 Hadn't been too terribly long ago.

00:50:05.740 They had it in like Idaho or something.

00:50:09.240 They had an Olympic rodeo.

00:50:12.620 Yeah.

00:50:13.440 My dad told me all about it. 1.00

00:50:14.840 I think you just made that shit up. 1.00

00:50:15.840 No. 1.00

00:50:16.340 Dead serious.

00:50:17.120 Yeah.

00:50:17.360 I don't know.

00:50:18.000 Yeah.

00:50:18.260 They gave Olympic gold medals and everything.

00:50:18.720 I do know that like at one time they were testing it out and trying to make it.

00:50:22.520 But I don't know, man.

00:50:23.920 Curling's an Olympic sport.

00:50:25.060 Why isn't Bull Roddy?

00:50:25.980 I watched Curling the other night for about an hour.

00:50:27.580 Right?

00:50:28.100 It's like hot chicks. 1.00

00:50:29.760 It's like cornhole.

00:50:30.320 From Italia, Italy.

00:50:32.720 Really?

00:50:33.200 Yeah.

00:50:33.980 Oh, man.

00:50:34.560 They curl in Italy?

00:50:37.080 Really?

00:50:37.580 Yeah.

00:50:37.880 I thought it was like all Canadian.

00:50:39.480 Dude, they might have been playing Canada, I think, at the time.

00:50:42.580 But these girls, they were doing well.

00:50:45.200 Really?

00:50:45.520 I thought.

00:50:46.040 I don't know what was going on, dude.

00:50:48.400 But it seemed exciting.

00:50:49.700 Late night.

00:50:50.160 I got to clear my throat. 0.99

00:50:50.860 I have so much fucking nicotine in my throat right now. 0.99

00:50:53.620 As I say, I'm feeling left out. 0.99

00:50:54.920 Like I'm the only one not spitting here.

00:50:57.280 Maybe I'll just spit in the floor. 0.99

00:50:58.900 Damn, I just rode that six. 0.99

00:51:00.320 For about 35 minutes, man. 0.99

00:51:03.700 We got a guy right here in a photo lab who has a question.

00:51:07.280 What the hell?

00:51:08.780 And this Bull Rider.

00:51:10.840 How many times this man listened to that Tim McGraw hitter before he gets on that bull going 3.7 seconds?

00:51:21.580 Gang, gang.

00:51:22.600 You thought that last guy was high.

00:51:24.740 Man, I think it's cool.

00:51:25.800 Put him to shame.

00:51:26.500 This dude, yeah, he's high.

00:51:27.700 This dude's coming in red. 0.99

00:51:28.740 This guy's living in a fucking, yeah, this dude's about to be developed. 0.98

00:51:31.280 Like his eyes are so close, he doesn't even know the camera's not on his face. 0.99

00:51:35.340 I'd like to see him go eight seconds with his eyes open.

00:51:37.580 I'd like to see him go to lunch.

00:51:39.560 Like outside of his apartment.

00:51:41.620 That's awesome.

00:51:43.100 Is that a Nickelback record on the wall?

00:51:45.380 That explains so much.

00:51:47.240 It is.

00:51:48.920 Is there a song?

00:51:49.900 Is there hype music?

00:51:50.800 What are people listening to?

00:51:51.740 Travis Scott, what are you guys doing?

00:51:53.500 My song is Dire Straits, Money for Nothing.

00:51:55.900 Oh, wow.

00:51:56.280 That's what they play when I start going.

00:51:58.200 And so when do they start the intro music?

00:52:00.080 Is it like UFC?

00:52:00.940 They do it when they come out of the, when they come out, you know.

00:52:03.320 When we get in that buck and shoot, that's when they start it.

00:52:05.660 Okay.

00:52:06.040 Pretty much like that.

00:52:06.500 And does it play the whole time you're riding?

00:52:08.420 Yeah, they got a music mixer at the events each weekend, so they'll play that.

00:52:12.740 And then when I nod, he'll mix up something different and it'll play a fricking jam up song

00:52:17.300 when I'm going.

00:52:18.280 You should switch it up and play a genuine My Pony.

00:52:21.540 Oh, that's not a bad idea.

00:52:22.900 That's a terrible idea.

00:52:23.620 They've played Baby Shark before.

00:52:25.680 They have done that.

00:52:27.040 I introduced him last week after he rode his bull.

00:52:29.760 I introduced him as Mr. Haley Kinzel because his wife's a world champion barrel racer too.

00:52:35.700 Oh, wow.

00:52:36.060 And so we kind of changed up his name a little bit last week too.

00:52:39.760 And did you meet her on the circuit?

00:52:41.380 Yeah.

00:52:42.020 Not on this, but we have a couple different events each year that kind of collide with PBR.

00:52:46.760 We get invited to some and I met her at one of those.

00:52:50.160 Nice, man.

00:52:50.920 And did you know immediately, was there, did you, I mean, how did that break down with you

00:52:54.420 and the lady? 0.99

00:52:55.160 It was good.

00:52:56.220 I knew I was going to marry her before I even met her.

00:52:58.380 Really?

00:52:58.740 Yeah.

00:52:58.920 Yeah, that's no, that's no, so I'm doing interviews for like this little digital network we had

00:53:04.880 here and I asked him, I said, describe the perfect woman because he's what, 19 at the

00:53:09.140 time, something like that, 18, 19, 20.

00:53:11.000 Yeah, how can he know even?

00:53:12.080 And it's like, you know, all these teenage girls are flocking over these guys and like

00:53:16.360 young cowboys.

00:53:17.820 Describe the perfect girl.

00:53:19.020 And he looks the camera dead in the eye and he goes, Haley Kinzel and gives it this wink

00:53:24.240 and he had never even met her.

00:53:26.340 Never even met her.

00:53:27.040 Wow, there you go.

00:53:27.540 He met her right there, dude.

00:53:28.960 Put it out in the universe and it happened.

00:53:31.180 Dang, man.

00:53:31.780 That's beautiful, dude.

00:53:32.900 Thank you.

00:53:33.700 And so her sport, her, when she does, it's barrel racing? 0.98

00:53:37.840 Yep.

00:53:38.100 And so that's on a horse.

00:53:39.660 Yep.

00:53:40.080 And it's a-

00:53:40.740 Cloverleaf pattern, three barrels.

00:53:42.140 Okay.

00:53:42.540 And so when you say that, Cloverleaf pattern, what is that?

00:53:45.880 You just, you go around-

00:53:47.600 They're set up in a triangle.

00:53:48.340 Right hand turn.

00:53:49.000 Okay, the barrel is set up in a triangle.

00:53:50.660 Yep.

00:53:50.860 And they start at one of the barrels?

00:53:52.740 Yep.

00:53:53.140 You go, you start probably 100 feet out from the barrel and then you run at the barrel,

00:53:58.060 go around it, then go to the next one, go around it, go to the third one, go around 0.97

00:54:01.980 it and haul ass home. 0.99

00:54:03.740 That's crazy. 0.99

00:54:04.460 That's dope, man.

00:54:05.220 That's wild.

00:54:06.060 Yeah.

00:54:06.260 And do you, did you have parents that rode?

00:54:10.060 Yep.

00:54:10.400 My mom competed in the barrel race and then my dad rode the buck and horses.

00:54:14.200 So from the time I was little up until I think mom quit going when I was probably around

00:54:18.500 six, seven, I was getting hauled to all those rodeos and that's kind of how I took a liking

00:54:22.860 to the bull ride and I would see those bulls go at the rodeos and big scary baseball bats

00:54:27.260 on their heads and I just took a liking to them for some reason.

00:54:29.760 Now he's got a 19-year-old brother that's in the same league he is now that just got into 1.00

00:54:34.440 the major leagues that's trying to beat that ass. 1.00

00:54:37.200 Damn. 1.00

00:54:37.640 So people, is that starting to become a thing? 0.99

00:54:39.460 Oh yeah, they're loving it that me and him are on at the same time.

00:54:42.720 It's kind of cool that the Lockwood brothers are competing at this highest level of bull

00:54:46.660 riding.

00:54:47.340 Dude, that's beautiful, man.

00:54:49.280 Oh, she wrote this back.

00:54:51.300 Is he single?

00:54:52.160 I'm 19.

00:54:53.640 That's perfect.

00:54:54.400 For people just listening, there was someone sent in just a Snapchat photo and it's a girl

00:55:02.320 hitting on Jess's brother.

00:55:05.020 Oh, nice.

00:55:06.060 Get that tag, I'll get it to him.

00:55:07.580 Yeah, there we go.

00:55:09.200 Love connection.

00:55:10.040 It starts here, dude.

00:55:10.760 We'll be at the wedding.

00:55:11.660 It all starts on the internet these days, man.

00:55:13.460 You can officiate it, man. 0.91

00:55:14.560 Damn right I can. 0.84

00:55:15.560 Do people get, you get asked to officiate a lot of stuff? 0.92

00:55:17.600 Man, we actually had a bull rider here a couple of years ago that asked me to and I kind

00:55:21.660 of laughed it off and didn't really think much about it, but yeah, we've had some weird

00:55:26.400 requests, like not Bruce Buffer making videos to walk people down the aisle with my voice

00:55:31.720 kind of things, but yeah, I've done some funerals that weren't fun, obviously, but it's part

00:55:40.280 of life, you know?

00:55:41.020 Oh, yeah.

00:55:42.100 But I've never done one yet.

00:55:43.960 I want to do one.

00:55:44.620 I want to do the wildest wedding ever.

00:55:48.000 Just mess it up.

00:55:50.080 Yeah.

00:55:50.460 Make it something they can remember.

00:55:51.400 Make it fun, yeah.

00:55:52.200 Yeah, it's got to be.

00:55:53.020 Life's got to be fun, man.

00:55:54.200 I'm sure, man.

00:55:55.240 That's great.

00:55:55.700 I love that.

00:55:56.680 Nick, we had any other good questions that came in?

00:55:58.960 We had another one from the guy in the photo lab.

00:56:03.600 This ought to be interesting.

00:56:06.300 I got another one for you.

00:56:08.620 I mean, this man lost a tooth or something out of his pockets on that bull.

00:56:17.200 Let me know.

00:56:18.480 Gang, gang.

00:56:19.120 Gang, bro.

00:56:19.640 You ever lost your phone or anything?

00:56:20.740 Did you take your phone out there when you ride?

00:56:22.020 Hell no.

00:56:22.720 Did he say lose a tooth out of your pocket?

00:56:25.320 Is that what he said?

00:56:27.040 This guy's on a whole nother planet right now.

00:56:29.500 Yeah, that's even going to be on methadone, man.

00:56:30.840 Where's this guy?

00:56:31.600 Interplanetary.

00:56:31.880 This guy, is he from Oklahoma?

00:56:33.300 I don't know.

00:56:33.900 Because I live next to a lot of people that act like that.

00:56:36.520 Yeah, this dude, have you ever lost a grill piece?

00:56:38.120 Have you lost something we don't know?

00:56:39.760 I can't even.

00:56:40.600 No, I haven't lost a tooth.

00:56:41.820 I haven't lost nothing really when I'm riding.

00:56:44.200 Maybe my necklace broke off once.

00:56:45.820 That's all I can think.

00:56:46.940 Do you wear a helmet?

00:56:48.080 Sometimes you see guys with a helmet on.

00:56:50.020 Yeah.

00:56:50.420 Yeah.

00:56:50.680 No, I've never lost that. 0.99

00:56:51.800 I'd keep that sucker strapped on tight. 0.99

00:56:53.420 That's my lifeline. 1.00

00:56:54.280 It's mandatory.

00:56:54.620 Does everybody wear that?

00:56:55.420 Is that mandatory?

00:56:55.900 It's mandatory now for the younger guys.

00:56:58.620 I think it's like 93 or 94 if you're born after 94, it's mandatory.

00:57:04.460 Man, it's so dangerous.

00:57:05.400 You have to protect the noggin. 0.77

00:57:07.100 Yeah.

00:57:07.420 We're finding out more and more in all major sports.

00:57:10.360 With so much CTE and so many head trauma, so much research,

00:57:14.340 we're starting to learn that you've got to find a way to protect that dome.

00:57:17.820 And so all of our guys are wearing helmets now.

00:57:20.180 Is it harder to defend, do you find?

00:57:22.540 Because right now you're the champion.

00:57:24.260 Yep.

00:57:25.060 Is it harder to defend that, do you feel?

00:57:26.980 Or was it tougher in 2018 or in 2019 when you were making that comeback?

00:57:31.200 I think it was the first year it was harder to defend,

00:57:34.060 whereas this year I'm more experienced,

00:57:36.260 got more bulls under my belt at the top level.

00:57:39.180 I just feel it's just normal now.

00:57:41.420 Everyone talks about, though, after you win your first world title,

00:57:44.160 it's a world champion slump the next year, and I felt it.

00:57:47.200 It was true, huh?

00:57:47.820 But, yeah, you get put through so much media at that point.

00:57:50.680 Everyone wants to talk to you, use you for stuff.

00:57:53.300 But now it's become normal to me,

00:57:55.560 and I just deal with it and it doesn't affect my riding no more.

00:57:59.220 Did you notice, like, did your ego ever get involved?

00:58:01.860 Because ego is a dangerous thing.

00:58:02.980 Sometimes it's something we don't even control, you know.

00:58:04.560 It'll grow inside of us without us really wanting it to.

00:58:07.120 You don't realize it.

00:58:07.860 Yeah, we'll think we're the most humble guy

00:58:09.480 and you can have this, like, you know,

00:58:10.760 the dark edge of you kind of growing up.

00:58:12.400 Did you notice any of that?

00:58:13.620 No, it never happened.

00:58:14.620 My parents raised me pretty good,

00:58:16.540 and if it ever got to that, they would whoop me when I was little.

00:58:20.140 So I knew when I got older it wasn't going to happen.

00:58:23.200 But that ego thing comes on those championship Sundays.

00:58:26.800 It comes into play there, I think,

00:58:28.520 when you go up and you get to pick your bull in that top 15.

00:58:31.700 Oh, really?

00:58:32.320 Yeah, so sometimes you get up there and you feel that big energy. 0.99

00:58:36.220 You're like, fuck, yeah, give me that one. 0.98

00:58:37.900 He's never been real. 1.00

00:58:38.440 Oh, so sometimes you want to go with the biggest baddest. 1.00

00:58:40.000 Oh, yeah, you're like, fuck it, you know? 1.00

00:58:42.340 Let's ride. 1.00

00:58:42.920 I'm the man.

00:58:43.620 Yeah.

00:58:43.880 Let's try him out. 1.00

00:58:45.060 Damn. 0.99

00:58:46.080 That's so much fun, dude. 0.99

00:58:47.280 And that's kind of mentally affect the other guys, too, 0.99

00:58:49.280 where they're like, oh, shit, he's going big. 0.99

00:58:51.280 Yep, exactly. 1.00

00:58:52.280 Your ego gets a hold of you when you're picking them bulls

00:58:55.440 and make them other guys take notice, I think.

00:58:58.500 It's cool when we see a guy that can have any bull he wants to

00:59:01.820 and he steps up and he picks the one that he knows

00:59:04.220 is going to be the most difficult one.

00:59:06.140 And, like, he's done that a couple of times, you know,

00:59:08.120 and it's cool.

00:59:09.100 So somebody will get it.

00:59:12.340 I'll clean you up later.

00:59:16.380 Zen hit me that six, bro.

00:59:17.700 I should have started at a three.

00:59:19.100 Like my childhood.

00:59:20.040 Dude, I can't feel my ears anymore.

00:59:21.800 We got a question from a white kid right here.

00:59:24.320 This guy looks a lot more domesticated.

00:59:25.760 What is that in the background?

00:59:27.320 Is that a gorilla in the background?

00:59:28.740 It probably is, dude.

00:59:30.120 Yeah.

00:59:30.880 Of course it is.

00:59:31.760 Yeah.

00:59:32.400 I was wondering what your thought process was going in to

00:59:35.760 riding Heartbreak Kid.

00:59:37.240 Gang, bro.

00:59:39.420 Gang, bro.

00:59:40.160 See, he pays attention.

00:59:41.240 Yeah, that's that bull we were just talking about

00:59:43.040 that Hugo got a hold of me.

00:59:44.800 Yeah.

00:59:45.060 I went into the event, and I'd ridden both my bulls, actually,

00:59:48.200 but I was really low on my second one, score-wise.

00:59:51.700 And I was, like, fifth in the event or something, 0.99

00:59:53.860 and I was like, well, fuck. 0.99

00:59:54.800 I got to be a lot of points if I'm going to win it. 1.00

00:59:56.680 Fuck it. 1.00

00:59:57.000 Give me the hardest tried one. 1.00

00:59:58.140 He'd never been rowed at that point.

00:59:59.920 He was the bull that got left at the end of the draft every weekend

01:00:03.560 because everyone was so scared of him, didn't like him. 1.00

01:00:06.440 I was like, fuck it. 1.00

01:00:07.180 Give him to me. 1.00

01:00:08.440 And I rode him and broke his streak, and it was awesome.

01:00:13.000 And then he did it again the next weekend.

01:00:14.580 Then the next weekend, I did it again,

01:00:16.200 and I was kind of behind in the event. 1.00

01:00:17.820 I'm like, fuck it. 0.99

01:00:18.400 I did it once. 1.00

01:00:19.200 Let's do it again.

01:00:20.180 And I got him rowed again.

01:00:21.440 Really?

01:00:21.940 Oh, yeah.

01:00:22.320 And won both events?

01:00:23.680 No, I ended up second in both of them because he made up those points for me,

01:00:29.200 but that guy went in leading it.

01:00:30.460 He just had so many points on me.

01:00:32.300 And so the judges, what are the judges for?

01:00:35.400 They're scoring the guys, and they're scoring the animal.

01:00:38.540 So that's, like, the thing that a lot of people don't realize is, like,

01:00:41.340 every one of these bulls is getting judged.

01:00:44.220 So that's why the guys want these animals to be as well taken care of,

01:00:49.100 as athletic as they possibly can because they're watching to see how hard they kick.

01:00:52.280 How difficult they are to ride, how quick they turn back.

01:00:55.400 And so they're marking them 1 to 50,

01:00:57.360 and then they're marking these guys 1 to 50 on how easy they can make it look

01:01:01.560 or how stylish they can be or if they're just floating by

01:01:04.740 and just barely getting by.

01:01:05.880 So, you know, they're looking at the animal and the rider

01:01:09.720 and putting the scores together.

01:01:11.580 And so when you go into the final event, when you go towards the end,

01:01:16.400 you're thinking, okay, I have this many points right now.

01:01:19.900 So this bull is, like, sometimes you have to pick the best.

01:01:23.600 Well, you have to really get out there on the best one.

01:01:25.660 You can kind of evaluate it.

01:01:27.180 Okay, I might be able to take a mid-range bull right now

01:01:29.140 because I'm up by so much right now.

01:01:31.360 Yep, exactly.

01:01:32.420 A lot of guys will try that strategy.

01:01:34.160 And do you think style?

01:01:35.400 When you're on the bull, are you thinking style?

01:01:37.800 Like, I'm trying to do this with a certain flair?

01:01:40.920 Or are you thinking I'm just trying to stay on this animal?

01:01:43.980 So most of the time, you're just doing your job,

01:01:46.620 doing whatever that keeps you in the middle, staying on them.

01:01:49.360 But then if you're riding in Plum Easy, you'll see guys lift their leg

01:01:52.600 and it's actually spurring the bull

01:01:54.740 and it's getting you extra points, essentially.

01:01:57.120 So it's showing you're in domination and you're controlling your ride

01:02:00.340 and you're making that bull just look easy.

01:02:02.900 And that's what the – so, yeah, so you're competing.

01:02:05.220 So you're not just trying to stay on for eight seconds.

01:02:06.560 You're also trying to impress the judges.

01:02:08.160 Exactly.

01:02:08.660 You're trying to get as much flair in your ride as you can to up your score.

01:02:12.140 There's a lot more to it.

01:02:13.640 Like, you think about eight seconds, man.

01:02:15.520 Eight seconds goes by so fast when you think about it.

01:02:18.420 But when you're watching so much happen so quick, there's a lot going on.

01:02:23.960 It's like watching Flint when people start a fire.

01:02:26.280 It's like watching that exact process right there.

01:02:28.760 Yeah.

01:02:29.240 Just trying to pack it all in.

01:02:30.460 Yep.

01:02:32.220 And do you go when – so say when it's your chance to go pick the bull,

01:02:36.020 will you go look at them?

01:02:37.180 Will you go down and spend time looking at them before that Sunday ride?

01:02:40.220 No, you pretty much – those top bulls, you know exactly.

01:02:43.400 You've seen them hundreds of times before that.

01:02:45.440 And then you get up on the cage out there, and it's with him.

01:02:49.260 And they got a big screen of all the names.

01:02:51.360 And once you say that, they'll put your name beside them, mark them off.

01:02:54.620 And on the stuff you see on television, do you see them pick the bulls

01:02:58.660 or it's just matched up once they show it up on the screen?

01:03:00.560 It depends.

01:03:01.560 It depends on where we're at and, like, obviously, you know, TV producing and stuff.

01:03:05.040 Because a lot of times, you know, if he's got the number one pick

01:03:07.540 and that heartbreak kid's in there, you know, our fans at home on TV,

01:03:11.000 they want to see it.

01:03:11.860 If that's not a potential, if there's not something big right off the gate,

01:03:15.920 then they might not show it on TV.

01:03:17.880 But in the arena, it's interesting because he has been getting up the last few weeks

01:03:22.760 and he'll look at me and go, what do you think?

01:03:24.280 And I'm like, I ain't no bull rider.

01:03:25.720 Don't put that pressure on me.

01:03:27.900 A lot of opinions.

01:03:29.220 Yeah, no.

01:03:29.880 I'm an open-minded guy.

01:03:31.260 Yeah, you want to see what that's going on?

01:03:32.100 Whatever he thinks I can win on, I'll take. 0.99

01:03:33.980 Damn. 0.99

01:03:34.340 So I'm one of those guys. 0.99

01:03:35.420 Like, I want to see guys be as high as they can be every single time.

01:03:39.100 Yeah.

01:03:39.240 So that's always my advice.

01:03:42.300 What's, like, what do you see kind of the future of bull riding?

01:03:45.040 Do you see it changing?

01:03:45.860 Do you see it, is it great as it is?

01:03:47.740 It's just going to get better.

01:03:48.720 Them bulls, they're producing them and breeding them to just get better and better.

01:03:52.800 So if they don't keep doing that with the bull riders soon,

01:03:55.820 there's not going to be a guy that rides all weekend

01:03:58.020 because the bulls are just getting better.

01:03:59.720 And numbers have dropped in bull riders, I think.

01:04:03.420 The amount of actual riders?

01:04:04.620 Yeah.

01:04:05.060 Yeah, it's dropped over time.

01:04:06.980 And we need to breed some men back into this world 1.00

01:04:09.520 and make some bull riders out of them because...

01:04:11.480 Why do you think that is?

01:04:13.740 You know what's the truth?

01:04:14.920 Yeah.

01:04:15.020 I think because society is so scared of everything

01:04:18.600 that, like, we're not, you know, taking...

01:04:21.020 What is it?

01:04:21.580 The hot off the garden hose?

01:04:23.700 Oh, that hot hose hit. 0.98

01:04:24.720 That hot hose hit, yeah.

01:04:25.680 People don't want that straight item.

01:04:26.800 We're keeping kids in a bubble all the time.

01:04:29.260 We're not letting them get life experiences.

01:04:31.120 We're not letting them get their arm broke on the playground.

01:04:34.120 We're so coddling that we don't let people have experiences.

01:04:38.340 And it's something that you definitely have to experience.

01:04:42.500 I mean, and we just don't have enough toughness in society.

01:04:46.860 You know what I mean?

01:04:47.700 Oh, yeah.

01:04:48.200 We lose it out here.

01:04:49.180 I mean, it's gone.

01:04:49.900 I mean, yeah.

01:04:50.520 I mean, it's definitely...

01:04:51.140 It's in the ocean.

01:04:51.560 Yeah, it's changed out here.

01:04:54.200 Do you think that...

01:04:55.560 Do you think that there will be, like...

01:05:00.140 Do you think there will be, like, a resurgence of more men wanting to ride?

01:05:04.140 Well, here's a better question.

01:05:04.960 What do you think it is that makes...

01:05:08.560 Like, if there's a young guy sitting out there who's like,

01:05:11.100 I wonder if I could do this.

01:05:12.800 We got a question for you related.

01:05:14.600 Okay, perfect.

01:05:15.320 It's audio only, but he's looking for his help.

01:05:18.440 What up, Theo?

01:05:21.320 What up, Jess?

01:05:22.860 I just have a quick question.

01:05:24.420 I guess it's kind of a serious one.

01:05:27.200 You know, I've always wanted to learn how to ride bulls.

01:05:31.040 I come from a long history of cowboys.

01:05:36.560 However, when my family moved here to the U.S., we moved into the city.

01:05:41.080 You know, that kind of part of our...

01:05:43.560 You know, my family's lifestyle was cut off, man.

01:05:46.580 But it's something that nags me all the time.

01:05:49.240 And it's just something that I want to do that calls me, man. 0.99

01:05:52.140 I want to learn how to ride some fucking bulls, bro. 0.97

01:05:55.180 So I guess my question is, what tips do you have, man, 0.99

01:05:59.520 for somebody that wants to get started and to just fucking do it? 0.91

01:06:04.720 Thank you, Theo. 0.98

01:06:05.460 Gang, gang, brother.

01:06:06.320 Gang, bro.

01:06:08.980 That's tough.

01:06:10.000 You know, when you get older, it just gets tougher to learn it

01:06:13.320 if you don't start out real young.

01:06:15.260 I mean, it's not impossible, but it definitely makes it harder.

01:06:19.440 When you grow up wanting to do it, and you take those steps,

01:06:23.120 like getting on sheep, then you work your way up to little calves.

01:06:26.100 And steers, you work your way up, whereas you're this age,

01:06:30.320 you can't start out on that sheep.

01:06:31.800 You got to go straight into bulls.

01:06:33.540 It's just so hard when you get older.

01:06:35.720 But the younger kids that can start out like that

01:06:39.860 and get in with the right people and make them take them stepping stones,

01:06:43.260 really teach them correct and teach them right,

01:06:45.500 it's just so much easier than taking a full-grown man

01:06:47.960 and putting them on a bull, 0.60

01:06:49.440 because there's not bulls easy enough nowadays that you can learn on, really.

01:06:54.080 Right, there's not a lot of beginner bulls, really.

01:06:55.840 But I want to see kids from the city.

01:06:57.640 I want to see kids that didn't grow up on a ranch,

01:06:59.740 because we've got a couple of buddies.

01:07:01.080 There's a guy, Sean Willingham, he grew up wakeboarding,

01:07:03.440 just an extreme sport, and it was that adrenaline rush

01:07:07.120 that kind of sucked him in.

01:07:08.820 And that's why I keep going back to the more eyeballs.

01:07:12.040 I want kids to try it, because who knows?

01:07:15.040 You don't have to grow up on a ranch.

01:07:16.740 You don't have to grow up in a saddle to be a cowboy.

01:07:20.060 And we say that all the time at the PBR now.

01:07:21.960 It's like cowboy is such a broad-spectrum term

01:07:25.120 that if you've got those hardcore base values that cowboys have,

01:07:31.220 come on, come be part of us, come be one of us.

01:07:34.720 Yeah, there's a guy, Ian Walsh, that I follow on Instagram,

01:07:37.560 and he's like a big surfer, and he's big into X Games

01:07:40.120 and Red Bull type of stuff and all of that.

01:07:42.140 He's just an adrenaline junkie.

01:07:44.720 Yeah.

01:07:45.740 And I would love to see him.

01:07:48.020 I would love to see some of these guys cross over.

01:07:50.120 You remember when the NFL went on strike here?

01:07:52.260 It's been like maybe back in the early 2000s,

01:07:55.420 the NFL went on strike, whatever.

01:07:57.120 Chad Ochocinco saw a billboard that the PBR was coming to town,

01:07:59.860 and he tweeted out that he was going to start bull riding,

01:08:02.800 and he came and tried it.

01:08:03.520 He went to Ty Murray's house.

01:08:04.880 He started working on trying it.

01:08:06.560 And this is in Ochocinco's prime,

01:08:08.600 and he came to one of our events, and he got on a bull,

01:08:10.720 and the direct quote, you can YouTube this and look it up,

01:08:13.680 it's him saying,

01:08:15.400 I don't understand why these are not the highest-paid athletes in the world.

01:08:18.860 I mean, that's a guy that premier athlete tried it and sucked at it.

01:08:22.560 Yeah. 0.85

01:08:22.880 Like, it was horrible.

01:08:24.200 Yeah.

01:08:25.340 But it's just so tough.

01:08:28.340 Yeah, yeah.

01:08:28.980 The funniest part about this whole deal

01:08:31.800 is they didn't just put him on like an all-right bull, learner bull. 0.99

01:08:35.860 This is the fucking world champion bull that year. 0.99

01:08:38.580 This is the greatest bull in the world at this point. 0.99

01:08:42.700 Like, let that just sink in.

01:08:45.860 Oh, my God.

01:08:46.880 I would be so scared for him.

01:08:48.780 He looks scared through that cage.

01:08:50.760 But, like, he admitted he's terrified,

01:08:52.440 and he's like, okay, we good?

01:08:53.840 And that's not a knock on him at all.

01:09:00.820 No, not at all.

01:09:01.940 Man, I think it takes – 0.99

01:09:03.060 Dude's got huge balls just to try it. 0.95

01:09:06.880 We're going to get you guys out of here in just a second, 0.97

01:09:08.660 though.

01:09:09.260 I know you've got to ride tonight.

01:09:10.220 I didn't know this.

01:09:15.780 Yeah, it's crazy.

01:09:18.760 All right, he says, let's do this. 1.00

01:09:21.740 Damn. 1.00

01:09:22.340 Ah, Lee, man. 1.00

01:09:26.120 Oh, Lee was out.

01:09:27.840 Wow, man.

01:09:28.900 Wow.

01:09:29.340 Good for him, bro.

01:09:30.460 Isn't that cool, though?

01:09:31.160 Imagine how great he feels right now that he just tried.

01:09:33.420 How much respect do you have for a guy that's totally out of his element to do that?

01:09:37.620 I love that, man.

01:09:38.020 Change my whole perspective.

01:09:38.680 Yeah, right there in that moment, change my whole perspective.

01:09:41.040 Or just change some of our perspective of him.

01:09:42.740 Same.

01:09:43.220 Wow.

01:09:43.540 Same.

01:09:44.240 I have the utmost respect for that guy.

01:09:46.000 Yeah.

01:09:46.420 That's so wild.

01:09:47.080 Anybody that tries that.

01:09:48.340 That's a multimillion-dollar athlete, and he's just like,

01:09:50.560 I'm going to try bull riding just to see what's up.

01:09:53.140 Just to see if I can do it.

01:09:53.620 He's got that million-dollar contract.

01:09:55.660 Like, screw it, you know?

01:09:56.780 I'm going to risk it all.

01:09:57.580 That's respect.

01:09:58.200 Yeah.

01:09:58.680 That's beautiful, man.

01:10:00.360 Thank you guys so much for being here today, man.

01:10:01.840 I know you guys got to ride that.

01:10:02.740 That's the only reason we're going to kind of, we'll step out, man.

01:10:05.700 But, yeah, this has been so educational, and I'd love for you guys to come back sometime. 0.95

01:10:08.880 Shoot, man.

01:10:09.360 Thanks for doing this. 0.93

01:10:10.000 Love to have you.

01:10:10.380 Awesome.

01:10:10.940 Love it.

01:10:11.100 Yeah, that zen has hit me in the head. 1.00

01:10:12.400 Is it a zen, is it?

01:10:13.340 Zen.

01:10:13.780 That's six, bro.

01:10:14.760 Love it.

01:10:16.380 I just went about 48 minutes on that six, boy.

01:10:18.660 Get you buzzing. 0.99

01:10:19.580 Fucking yeah, dude. 0.99

01:10:21.460 Bro, yeah. 1.00

01:10:21.880 It's time to party.

01:10:22.520 Yeah, I need more trees to have.

01:10:24.800 Thank you guys so much.

01:10:25.700 Best of luck to both of you, man.

01:10:27.080 Gang, man.

01:10:27.500 Yeah, gang, bro.

01:10:28.120 And we'll see you guys in the future.

01:10:29.080 Appreciate it.

01:10:29.500 Thanks, man.

01:10:29.800 Yeah.

01:10:30.700 Now I'm just floating on the breeze, and I feel I'm falling like these leaves.

01:10:36.380 I must be cornerstone.

01:10:41.800 Oh, but when I reach that ground, I'll share this peace of mind I found.

01:10:47.020 I can feel it in my bones.

01:10:50.520 But it's going to take a little time For me to set that parking brake And let myself

01:11:01.700 unwind Shine that light on me I'll sit and tell you my stories

01:11:12.480 Shine on me And I will find a song

01:11:21.700 I will sing it just for you
