00:02:24.160 purpose of this video to describe. Ten years ago, he was a bright, edgy commentator who said
00:02:29.420 provocative things about matters that were serious and important. He appeared on prominent podcasts
00:02:34.720 like the Rubin Report and the Joe Rogan Experience to talk about the meaning of conservatism,
00:02:39.580 censorship, the cultural vandalism of the progressive left, radical feminism, mass
00:02:44.080 immigration, and the rise of Donald Trump. He didn't have to agree with all of his views,
00:02:48.780 to recognize that the issues he was talking about were significant
00:02:52.440 and his acerbic quips were a way to shake his listeners
00:02:55.920 out of the straitjacket of political correctness.
00:02:58.740 He was a fringe, but nonetheless notable part of a bigger conversation
00:03:02.400 led by people like Jordan Peterson, Brett and Eric Weinstein,
00:03:06.180 Sam Harris, Douglas Murray, Ben Shapiro, and others.

00:03:47.880 exactly what they're doing. Think back to that Milo joke about not wanting to move back to Britain
00:03:52.860 because he doesn't speak Arabic. The joke works because you get the idea Britain's been overrun
00:03:58.120 by Muslims. There's only one problem. The overwhelming majority of British Muslims don't
00:04:02.700 speak Arabic. They're not from the Arab world. They're from Pakistan, India, Somalia, Turkey,
00:04:07.640 and Bangladesh. Milo is smart enough to know this but he's also smart enough to know that the people
00:04:13.320 to whom he's pandering do not. This is the essence of sloppilism. Smart people saying dumb things to
00:04:19.000 profit from the ignorance of the baying mob. Case in point, the entire online ride has spent the
00:04:24.060 last month screeching about the Lindsay Clancy story. On the 24th of January 2023, Lindsay Clancy,
00:04:30.780 a 32-year-old labor and delivery nurse, killed her three children, then cut her neck and wrist
00:04:36.080 and jumped from a second floor window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Clancy had
00:04:40.700 been treated for worsening anxiety, depression and insomnia by multiple providers and was prescribed
00:04:46.540 a dozen psychiatric medications, many via phone appointments. The killings came less than three
00:04:52.660 weeks after her discharge from a psychiatric facility. She pleaded not guilty by reason of
00:04:57.540 lack of criminal responsibility. At the time we're recording this video, the jury has deliberated for
00:05:02.940 five days, declared itself deadlocked twice and continues. A mistrial is possible. Naturally,
00:05:09.140 with a case of this nature there's much conjecture and speculation. There's also a debate about
00:05:14.220 whether she was capable of criminal responsibility or not. All of this is understandable, reasonable
00:05:20.060 and legitimate. Even the debate about the death penalty is in my view perfectly rational. What is
00:05:25.700 not reasonable, rational or legitimate is what I've seen in response to this story from many
00:05:30.840 commentators who've spent the last weeks using the story to drive a wedge between people.
00:05:34.960 According to the internet, if your girlfriend supports Lindsay Clancy, you should immediately
00:05:40.740 dump her if you endorsed by a whole host of prominent online commentators. Clancy had no
00:05:46.240 criminal record, no history of violence towards the children or anyone else, no prior contact
00:05:51.460 with Child Protective Services. She was by every account in testimony, including her former mother
00:05:57.920 in law, and as objective of sources you're likely to get in these circumstances, who testified that
00:06:03.000 she was begging for help, she was a devoted mother and respected labor and delivery nurse at Mass
00:06:08.100 General, whose only documented history was the escalating anxiety, insomnia, and depression of
00:06:13.880 her final four months, plus the suicidal thoughts that led to her voluntary psychiatric admission
00:06:18.700 on New Year's Eve. Clancy's ex-husband, Patrick, who has more reason than all of us combined to
00:06:23.660 be vengeful, has said publicly that he forgives her and views her as ill rather than evil. You may
00:06:29.780 disagree with him. You may say that sitting at home or in the comfort of your air-conditioned
00:06:34.100 podcast studio, you know beyond a reasonable doubt that she didn't have a psychotic episode
00:06:39.600 and was just depressed, tired, and looking for an easier way out. But you can't possibly deny
00:06:45.600 that a reasonable person could look at all that same evidence that I just laid out
00:06:49.780 and conclude that this was a person whose care was badly mishandled, leading to a tragedy.
00:06:54.780 This is, in other words, one of those issues about which reasonable people can reasonably
00:06:59.880 disagree.
00:07:00.840 Twelve people who sat through five weeks of evidence cannot agree for a reason, but
00:07:05.820 sloppy lists are incentivized to deny that such things exist.
