In this episode, I speak with a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces. She talks about her experience in the military, her advice to young women and men thinking about joining, and what to look for in a potential soldier.
00:00:00.000I think probably like there's such a high youth unemployment rate in the country right now and the Canadian Armed Forces to say, hey, we're spending billions and we want you.
00:00:07.820But what advice would you give to some 18, 19 year old, 20 year old young woman or man out there is thinking about joining the military?
00:00:15.560Think carefully about what your expectations of the actual job will be type of thing.
00:00:20.620Like if you sign up for the infantry and you know what I mean, you are not someone who likes going on long hikes or, or, or camping with guns or hunting and that type of thing.
00:00:34.060So like have expected and then work with what you're sort of, there's like, you can be an HVAC in the military, I'm pretty sure, or carpentry.
00:00:42.220So like figure out, you know what I mean, what is realistic within your skill sets or aptitudes.
00:00:47.960and then write down i think they make you list your top three choices and you don't always get
00:00:52.420your first one so make sure that they're sort of so it could be admin or hr and then and there's
00:00:56.660and like the support trades are absolutely essential to making sure that everybody in
00:01:00.700the rest of the military because i think support is like at least half if not more of the people
00:01:05.060involved so like nothing happens without them so take pride in those roles as well like you're
00:01:09.980you're not you're in the background so you're not the tip of the spear so what like it maybe
00:01:14.120you realize after five, 10 years of being a log
00:01:17.160that you want to be an armored officer or whatever.
