00:00:47.880 So, before Gotti Sr., Jr.'s father, took over the mob in IRE as the boss, Andy, Fat Andy

00:00:54.620 Ruggiano was the boss, who I was close with the family, with the sons, they played baseball

00:00:58.960 with him, I used to box at the same gym, and he was the Captain Gambino family that ran

00:04:24.000 And so, some of our childhood friends, like Timmy Donahue, he's passed away also, was also learning to fight with us.

00:04:30.640 So, my father brought us in and didn't want us to grow up in a neighborhood that was tough without being able to be tough.

00:05:06.340 He was a gambler, but he stood with all gangsters, and he was very friendly with Lucky Luciano's cousin, Charlie Luciano.

00:05:43.620 So, as he's telling me, stay away, as I'm getting older, I'm getting attracted to the money, and I see my father struggling.

00:05:50.600 And I see some of these guys, and they treat me well, and, you know, I'm getting attracted to that life, and I want that life.

00:06:03.460 So, he had a different outlook on things, and he didn't think, in my father's mind, I'm very close to my dad, is to teach me to survive, for me to understand the mob world, but to be like him.

00:06:19.520 And I guess he thought that I would never dive in, I'd be like him, but it was the opposite.

00:07:06.260 They'd show me, tell me to put their hands up, hit your hands, I'd hit their hands boxing a little bit, and they'd get a kick out of me.

00:07:18.480 So, what was the first experience of making money illegally or legally for you?

00:07:26.820 Again, I was in an environment that it was constant trouble, and it was constant gang-related back in those days.

00:07:34.420 You know, back in those days, it was a lot of racial tension because of the times.

00:07:40.420 So, I worked in a deli, and I spoke about this, it was called Dick's Deli, and it was a legitimate job.

00:07:46.220 And in between going to box and playing baseball, I became the captain of the baseball team in high school.

00:07:51.000 So, I was working in this deli, but that deli introduced me to a couple things.

00:07:56.020 A lot of my friends that were involved with a gang called Seven and Nine that were very dangerous, and it was basically, it became a huge gang throughout all New York, not just our area.

00:08:05.360 And it introduced me to the corner shop, the car service.

00:08:09.620 It happened to be my girlfriend's father, and he was a gangster with the Lucchese family.

00:08:13.820 And around the corner was a bookmaker, which was his brother, Louis Gaddy, and George Gaddy.

00:08:19.840 And he ran the local bookmaking area and horse room.

00:08:26.280 I'd get maybe 15 when I started getting involved running slips for them, innocently.

00:08:32.320 Yeah, I'm working in Dick's Deli, and they asked me, do me a favor and run it across the street.

00:08:37.400 So, innocently, I'm not looking to get involved to that extent.

00:08:41.120 They're just guys telling me, bookmakers and some tough guys and a couple killers that later on at that age, I still don't realize they're killers.

00:08:48.740 They were humble guys, and people have the idea the loudest man in the room is the toughest, and it's the complete opposite.

00:08:56.040 The guys I've learned to look up to were guys like Charlie Luciano that were humble and quiet and gentlemen.

00:09:11.240 He was a runner at 14, 15 years old for Frank Costello is what he was doing that for when he was doing certain favors for.

00:09:18.560 So, at what point were you kind of like, well, you know, I'm running, I'm doing this, but I'm seeing the lifestyle.

00:09:30.340 Well, I didn't have to really, after doing that, I didn't have to get any further introduction because I'm working and I'm making $75 a week in the deli.

00:09:45.160 And if George or Louie had a good week in their runners, he tore, he was also a professional boxer, he tore, he was a gangster, and Mousy, another guy.

00:09:54.980 When they were having a good week, they tipped me $20, $50, $100.

00:09:58.440 So, at the end of the week, I'm getting $75 from the deli, and these guys may be on a good week, they're giving me $300.

00:10:04.340 And you're talking about when I'm a kid, when $300 is like $3,000.

00:10:34.500 Albert Ruggiano is my, you know, what you would say, umbrella, and he's a couple years older than me.

00:10:44.560 And when his dad leaves, I'm also dabbling in a bookmaking business.

00:10:50.300 And Gebbett has a problem with Gotti on the street with some Jamaicans.

00:10:55.280 They rob, I think, about 200 or 300 pounds at that time.

00:11:00.300 Gebbett was moving weed at that time, what we call weed back then.

00:11:03.120 And Gotti was his partner.

00:11:06.000 They asked me to take a ride and be the shooter with Gebbett.

00:11:12.020 And that was the first time they asked me to do a favor.

00:11:14.220 And it was really Gebbett that was asking me the favor because he lived around the corner from me.

00:11:26.100 And that was probably the first major step into becoming, later on, involved in setting up multiple killings, shootings, and beatings around the city.

00:16:46.200 And I look at him funny like, and then I start realizing, wait a second, you know, to myself
