Valuetainment - Reaction to a Speech I Gave 5 Years Ago - DNA of an Entrepreneur

00:00:00.080 So you know, every time you go into a new year, the key is to have a certain mindset.

00:00:02.880 Like if you were to choose a word for a year, or a couple words for the year, what would

00:00:06.880 it be?

00:00:07.880 Today I was watching a video that Mario shared with me.

00:00:10.320 It's a talk I gave in 2015 when I was living in an RV for 30 days, going from LA to Miami

00:00:15.120 to New York, to Niagara Falls, to San Francisco, back to LA.

00:00:19.760 And this is a stop at, I believe, San Bernardino Valley.

00:00:23.240 And we're there and I'm giving this talk, and it was probably one of the best ones I

00:00:27.640 give out of the 16 stops that I had.

00:00:30.460 And the message, while I'm listening to it, I'm getting emotional, listen to the five-year

00:00:34.880 younger Pat giving the message at 37 years old, 36 years old.

00:00:39.100 But you have to hear what mindset it is that hopefully you will take going into 2020.

00:00:45.960 I'm not going to show you the whole talk because it's 23 minutes, but I'm going to just show

00:00:49.500 you a three, four, five minute segment of a speech I gave while I was on San Bernardino.

00:00:54.260 So let's take a look at this here together.

00:00:55.640 Have you ever met bitter people?

00:00:57.340 Anybody met bitter, depressed people?

00:00:59.780 Do you ever wonder why some of us sometimes are so bitter and depressed?

00:01:04.140 I used to want to find out what causes people to be lazy, until I figured out why people

00:01:08.720 are lazy.

00:01:09.720 I wanted to find out at one point, why am I so lazy when I was a kid?

00:01:13.460 Do you know, it's a very simple research.

00:01:15.680 Does anybody know what causes laziness?

00:01:18.040 A boring life.

00:01:20.640 Boredom is the seed of laziness.

00:01:24.180 When we watch a boring movie, what happens to us?

00:01:26.360 We fall asleep.

00:01:27.960 When you watch an exciting movie, what happens to us?

00:01:30.360 We don't fall asleep.

00:01:31.620 That's your life. 0.93

00:01:32.620 If your life is boring, you're lazy.

00:01:35.380 If your life doesn't have a lot of action, you don't have a lot of energy.

00:01:38.680 And I saw that in my life.

00:01:39.880 But you know what causes bitterness and what causes depression?

00:01:42.940 You ever met bitter people that everything to them is so bitter to be around?

00:01:47.560 Do you know what it is?

00:01:49.060 Let me tell you what causes happiness and what causes bitterness.

00:01:52.040 And here's all it is.

00:01:53.680 People who no longer create anything are depressed and bitter.

00:01:58.300 And people who continuously create, they're happy.

00:02:01.120 Watch.

00:02:02.120 Can I give you an example?

00:02:03.120 Tell us.

00:02:04.120 My mom and dad divorced.

00:02:05.120 In 1989.

00:02:06.120 20 years they didn't see each other.

00:02:08.260 My mom told me I would never be in the same room with your dad.

00:02:10.320 My dad said I would never see your mom ever again.

00:02:13.740 20 years I prayed I wanted to have them be in the same room together.

00:02:17.240 20 years later they did.

00:02:18.160 You know why?

00:02:19.280 Because my niece was born.

00:02:21.120 My sister created a child.

00:02:23.740 When she created that child, everybody showed up.

00:02:27.100 And everybody was happy.

00:02:28.660 My mom and dad talked to each other with no problems.

00:02:31.160 How many times have you seen grandkids bring families together?

00:02:33.900 Anybody's ever seen grandkids, what they do to a family?

00:02:36.240 Everyone shows up out of nowhere.

00:02:38.100 If we don't create, we're not happy.

00:02:41.340 You see people who are bitter?

00:02:42.960 Make a list of what they've been creating.

00:02:44.580 Nothing.

00:02:45.580 They're not happy.

00:02:46.900 They don't have happiness.

00:02:48.360 There's not fulfillment there.

00:02:49.960 Anybody's ever bought anything from Ikea?

00:02:51.660 You ever bought anything from Ikea?

00:02:54.080 Do you ever realize afterwards, what the heck was I thinking about going to this?

00:02:58.640 Ikea? 0.71

00:02:59.640 My Wi-Fi?

00:03:00.640 Come on.

00:03:01.640 Babe?

00:03:02.640 Yeah, baby.

00:03:03.640 See that box?

00:03:04.640 Yeah, baby.

00:03:05.640 What's your point with the box?

00:03:07.580 You know when we said we're going to make that shelf, we're going to make that little

00:03:10.880 cabinet together today, babe.

00:03:12.960 We never make it together.

00:03:14.160 You just hand me the screwdriver, baby. 1.00

00:03:15.880 I mean, that's not making it together.

00:03:18.020 So then you go over there, you're all ticked off.

00:03:19.880 Man, you know what I'm talking about, guys.

00:03:22.180 So we go over there, we're like this, talking behind, you know, under all, saying stuff.

00:03:27.400 You look at the box, 198 parts, and you open the manual.

00:03:31.900 It's in French.

00:03:32.900 I don't speak French like, give me an English manual.

00:03:36.060 And you start building this thing, right?

00:03:38.900 And you're so furious.

00:03:40.860 And you're getting close to what?

00:03:42.400 Finishing.

00:03:43.400 And then your masterpiece is done.

00:03:45.900 And then your parents show up.

00:03:47.900 Hey, Mom.

00:03:48.900 I created that thing.

00:03:51.900 I am the creator of that thing.

00:03:55.900 Son, don't touch it.

00:03:57.900 I created it.

00:03:59.900 Do not touch it.

00:04:00.900 Hey, hey, John.

00:04:01.900 You know that thing right there?

00:04:02.900 I created it.

00:04:03.900 I did it.

00:04:04.900 Ikea has become a multi-billion dollar company because it figured out people become happy when

00:04:09.640 they create things.

00:04:11.460 So dooku game is good because when you create and finish the diabolic formula, whatever it

00:04:16.260 is, you're all happy.

00:04:17.400 You know what I'm talking about?

00:04:18.400 Puzzles.

00:04:19.400 We create, we're happy.

00:04:20.400 But those are just actions that don't make you money.

00:04:23.640 Another thing we've realized we need is a community.

00:04:25.480 We need to be part of a community.

00:04:26.800 You know who learned that?

00:04:27.800 Instagram.

00:04:28.800 Facebook.

00:04:29.800 You know what we do nowadays?

00:04:30.800 Give me the duck lips. 0.96

00:04:31.800 Five and a half years ago, by the way.

00:04:32.800 Five and a half years ago.

00:04:33.800 Boom.

00:04:34.800 Five and a half years ago.

00:04:35.800 This is Juno plus a 15.

00:04:36.800 Hashtag, hashtag, da, da, da, hashtag, da, da, da, da, da.

00:04:39.800 Okay, great.

00:04:40.800 That was a good pick, man.

00:04:41.800 That was a good pick.

00:04:42.800 That one's going to blow up.

00:04:43.800 Watch.

00:04:44.800 They say 150 times a day we look at this thing.

00:04:45.800 150 times a day.

00:04:46.800 It's a lot higher today.

00:04:47.800 Let's go.

00:04:48.800 Oh, bro.

00:04:49.800 17 likes in four minutes.

00:04:51.800 Woo! 0.99

00:04:52.800 It's good.

00:04:53.800 It's good.

00:04:54.800 Oh, my God.

00:04:55.800 This is good.

00:04:56.800 Oh.

00:04:57.800 She walked around.

00:04:58.800 I'm going to check it again.

00:04:59.800 34.

00:05:00.800 We're on track for having the best one.

00:05:02.800 My best one is 68.

00:05:04.800 69 likes.

00:05:05.800 Woo! 0.99

00:05:06.800 Instagram.

00:05:07.800 How come Jerry didn't like the picture?

00:05:12.800 How weird are we, right?

00:05:17.800 Because we need a community.

00:05:19.800 You know what's the last one?

00:05:20.800 You know what's the last one?

00:05:21.800 This is why the Russian Empire failed miserably and the country finally went to Gorbachev and

00:05:27.800 said, get the heck out of here. 0.99

00:05:29.800 Communism doesn't work.

00:05:30.800 Do you know why it doesn't work?

00:05:31.800 As much as they're trying to convince Americans it works.

00:05:34.800 Do you know why it doesn't work?

00:05:36.800 Do you know why it doesn't work?

00:05:38.800 Because we love having a sense of ownership.

00:05:41.800 We have to have ownership.

00:05:43.800 When anybody's been to a game and your kid scores a touchdown, what does a parent typically

00:05:46.800 do?

00:05:47.800 Woo! 0.99

00:05:48.800 Hey.

00:05:49.800 Hey, I'm sorry.

00:05:50.800 Did you see that?

00:05:51.800 That's my boy.

00:05:52.800 So he runs like his daddy.

00:05:53.800 He's kind of like, you know, he's an athlete like his father.

00:05:55.800 How are you, sir?

00:05:56.800 I know I kind of gained weight, but that was me 32 years ago.

00:05:59.800 Son, I'm proud of you, buddy.

00:06:01.800 That's my son.

00:06:03.800 Hey, whose wife is this? 1.00

00:06:04.800 That's my wife. 1.00

00:06:05.800 Why are you looking at her?

00:06:06.800 That's my wife. 1.00

00:06:07.800 Don't look at my wife.

00:06:08.800 That's my wife. 1.00

00:06:09.800 My.

00:06:10.800 My wife.

00:06:11.800 Who's husband is this?

00:06:12.800 That's my husband?

00:06:13.800 Don't you be looking at my husband over there.

00:06:15.800 I'm telling you, that's my husband right there.

00:06:17.800 Okay?

00:06:18.800 Get your highest offer.

00:06:19.800 Hey, whose lawn is this?

00:06:20.800 Get off my lawn.

00:06:22.800 Whose house is this?

00:06:24.800 Whose car is this?

00:06:25.800 My.

00:06:26.800 You know why?

00:06:27.800 Because we need to have a sense of ownership.

00:06:28.800 Do you know what's crazy?

00:06:29.800 Let me tell you what's crazy.

00:06:31.800 Create community sense of ownership is all the activities that create happiness, fulfillment,

00:06:37.800 a meaningful life.

00:06:38.800 Do you know all entrepreneurs do all day long is create.

00:06:42.800 They're part of a community and they own their business.

00:06:45.800 That's why.

00:06:46.800 I'm going to stop right here.

00:06:47.800 That's about five minutes right there.

00:06:48.800 You can go watch the rest.

00:06:49.800 But three words for you to be thinking about going into 2021.

00:06:53.800 Create, meaning stay in creation mode this year.

00:06:56.800 Create.

00:06:57.800 Create what?

00:06:58.800 Create momentum.

00:06:59.800 Create opportunities.

00:07:01.800 Create unknowns.

00:07:02.800 Stay in creation mode the entire year, especially in December with momentum going into 2021.

00:07:07.800 Number two, find the right community.

00:07:10.800 Look, I can guarantee you one thing here.

00:07:12.800 Wherever you are in your life right now, it's because of the community you're a part of.

00:07:16.800 I don't know what community you're a part of.

00:07:17.800 I don't know who's around you.

00:07:19.800 I don't know who in your community challenges you.

00:07:22.800 I don't know who in your community lifts you up.

00:07:24.800 Yesterday we had a meeting at Maggiano.

00:07:26.800 I held a meeting with all my directors here at the Home Office and I pulled them there.

00:07:29.800 We were going to be reading a book together called No Rules Rules and everybody's like,

00:07:32.800 why are you recommending this book here to me?

00:07:35.800 Because in the book it's very challenging for the CEO to recommend a book like that.

00:07:39.800 Because in the book it tells employees to go shop your salaries.

00:07:43.800 So we're sitting there talking and I say, let me ask my opening question for everybody.

00:07:47.800 Let me ask you a question.

00:07:48.800 Are you guys surprised at why I recommended this book to you?

00:07:51.800 Everybody started laughing.

00:07:52.800 Yeah, we have no, why would you recommend this right now?

00:07:55.800 I said, because if we're going to go into 2021 with the vision to be able to fulfill,

00:08:00.800 we have a very big vision that we want to do.

00:08:02.800 We have to upgrade.

00:08:03.800 I have to upgrade.

00:08:04.800 If I have to upgrade, you want to upgrade.

00:08:07.800 And everybody started giving their feedback.

00:08:10.800 And it's a community.

00:08:11.800 So we're in creation mode.

00:08:13.800 We have a community.

00:08:14.800 And last but not least, we take ownership in what we do.

00:08:18.800 2021 take ownership.

00:08:20.800 Your losses take ownership.

00:08:21.800 You know, one of the quotes I read in a recent book I read, it said, whisper your successes,

00:08:28.800 shout your failures, right?

00:08:30.800 Whisper your successes, shout your failures.

00:08:33.800 Meaning what?

00:08:34.800 I failed.

00:08:35.800 I made a mistake.

00:08:36.800 I screwed up.

00:08:37.800 You know, it was a terrible mistake.

00:08:38.800 I could have done it better.

00:08:39.800 What if I did it this way?

00:08:41.800 Yeah, we won, but we got a great team.

00:08:43.800 And our team really came through and they did their part.

00:08:45.800 But let me tell you about the 19 mistakes I made in 2020.

00:08:47.800 Let me tell you about the 13 mistakes I made in 2020.

00:08:50.800 Stay in creation mode.

00:08:52.800 Find the right community.

00:08:53.800 Sense of ownership for everything you do.

00:08:55.800 Take ownership of the things that's going to happen for you in 2021.

00:08:58.800 And you'll be surprised what's going to happen to you with the results you'll get.

00:09:03.800 I remember when I shifted to this mindset years ago.

00:09:06.800 You know, 90 days later, I couldn't even recognize my life.

00:09:09.800 There was a certain peace of mind that I had because I just kind of knew everything was

00:09:12.800 going to work out for me.

00:09:13.800 I remember one day I'm at my house in Granada Hills.

00:09:15.800 My dad's right there.

00:09:16.800 We're roommates.

00:09:17.800 This is 2002, 2003.

00:09:20.800 MBNA calls me because I owe them $5,800 and I haven't paid them nothing for six months

00:09:25.800 because I'm broke.

00:09:26.800 But I'm working my ass off and I'm in creation mode.

00:09:29.800 I'm in the right community.

00:09:30.800 I'm taking ownership of all my faults.

00:09:32.800 They call me.

00:09:33.800 I pick up.

00:09:34.800 Hey, how you doing?

00:09:35.800 Great.

00:09:36.800 I joke with them.

00:09:37.800 I say, listen, I know why you're calling me.

00:09:38.800 I want to pay it off.

00:09:39.800 He says, what do you mean?

00:09:40.800 I don't have any money right now. 0.99

00:09:41.800 But I'm telling you, I'm busting my ass. 0.98

00:09:42.800 I'm going to pay you guys off. 0.99

00:09:43.800 You don't have to worry about me filing bankruptcy.

00:09:45.800 You don't have to worry about me doing anything.

00:09:47.800 Just stop bothering me so I can get to work so I can pay you off.

00:09:50.800 The guy starts laughing.

00:09:51.800 I say, you'll see.

00:09:52.800 I'm going to call you and pay you off.

00:09:53.800 Six, 12 months later, hey, how you doing?

00:09:56.800 What's going on?

00:09:57.800 I'm ready to pay off and I paid off.

00:09:59.800 Why?

00:10:00.800 Creation, community, sense of ownership, life changing.

00:10:03.800 If you haven't watched this entire speech I gave here, it's called The DNA of an Entrepreneur.

00:10:18.800 Put it all over your phone.

00:10:19.800 Make reminders.

00:10:20.800 And then go into 2021 with the kind of momentum you've never had in your life in the month

00:10:25.800 of December.

00:10:26.800 And then in 2021, it could potentially be the beginning of the greatest years of your life.
