Valuetainment - ＂Safety Is How They Sell It” - EU Mandates AI Eye Tracking in New Vehicles

00:00:00.000 If you guys haven't seen this story, it's a little weird story that's going viral.

00:00:03.260 It's European cars now must track driver's eye movement in the name of safety.

00:00:08.940 Do you have a video on this? Do you have a clip on this?

00:00:11.540 European cars now must track driver's eye movement in the name of safety.

00:00:17.900 So imagine you're driving a car and there's a camera that's watching you to see if you're falling asleep or not.

00:00:22.420 Or maybe you're on your phone.

00:00:24.140 And where's it going?

00:00:25.180 This report goes to them.

00:00:27.540 It became mandatory on Tuesday.

00:00:29.380 What? For citizens of the EU's 27 member states to allow their cars to track their movements using AI.

00:00:38.120 The European Union's General Safety Regulation mandated advanced driver distraction warning systems

00:00:43.860 that track drivers' body movements, such as eye and head movements,

00:00:47.580 in every new vehicle sold after July 7, according to Access Newswire.

00:00:52.320 This is a driver support system.

00:00:54.300 Martin Krantz, CEO and founder of Swedish AI company Smart.

00:00:57.360 I told the Daily Caller News Foundation in an interview,

00:00:59.880 it's a life-saving technology.

00:01:01.500 It really helps to prevent accidents.

00:01:03.780 It's probably going to be just like with the seatbelt and the airbag.

00:01:09.340 SmartEye is one of the leading suppliers of eye tracking

00:01:12.400 and driver monitoring AI that is compliant with ADW systems.

00:01:17.300 This tracking has quite a high accuracy.

00:01:21.140 So if you sit in your car and you're driving your car

00:01:24.200 and then you look at the speedometer,

00:01:26.860 then what happens is that tracking realizes that this is the speedometer that you're looking at

00:01:31.780 and then you're allowed to take your eyes away from the road for a certain time period let's

00:01:36.500 say for example two seconds you have a time that you can spend on different objects in your car

00:01:41.960 cell phone use while driving is forbidden thing to do in most jurisdictions then it can warn

00:01:48.340 immediately keep your eyes on the road basically it's uh actually illegal to do that he told the

00:01:54.220 dcnf and then if you for example spend time on the navigation display or on the radio that's also

00:01:59.780 allowed but not for too long eventually it will tell you to move your back attention on the road

00:02:04.240 you have different distraction limits they have a distraction limits on the speed no one's going

00:02:09.420 to call the authorities and no one's going to tell you and send along to the police or anything like

00:02:15.400 that but it's going to be different for different car makers tom i i don't know about this how do

00:02:20.960 you feel about this a lot of cars already have it mercedes already had it even on their lowest

00:02:24.700 uh basic uh the mercedes c's and the ones um they've had it and i think other manufacturers

00:02:30.860 have had it and they call it dozing or tiredness warning or they go beep beep beep you know driver

00:02:36.900 alertness warning a mercedes will do that doesn't bother you so well no i think what they're doing

00:02:42.340 is they're mandating what has been a safety feature on many different cars and it doesn't

00:02:46.540 really bother me because i think it is a safety feature now then however if it ever goes from

00:02:51.920 warning to insurance that's where it it's going to go guys that's where it's going to go we're

00:02:58.680 going to go from warning to insurance data the same way now that you can plug the little sensor

00:03:03.600 in to your car and it'll detect how often you're over the speed limit how fast you break how hard

00:03:09.400 you break how fast you accelerate all of that to determine your crash risk so that you can be

00:03:14.640 underwritten you for this you think this is good i'm against the legislation but i like the feature

00:03:20.100 in more cars because like early tension on seat belts the early braking or the you know the beep

00:03:26.840 beep and your car hits the brakes a little bit that saves lives and and i think those features

00:03:31.540 are good but what concerns me is the full loop here pat this will go to law enforcement this

00:03:38.020 will ultimately for sure go to insurance and then it's going to be well wait a minute if i have a

00:03:44.240 good driving record yet you think I've looked down too many times you're going to re-rate me

00:03:48.940 now I got a problem with it frozen lasagna medium power 15 minutes sounds like oh joe time let's

00:04:17.740 call 1-866-531-2600 or visit connexontario.ca well that is going to happen i know it's eventually

00:04:22.760 going to lead into that and by the way if they're watching do you think they're also listening

00:04:27.940 absolutely at 100 you think so pat i love that you brought that up if you don't it started in

00:04:34.400 the streets with the cameras now it's in your car they're lit boy and where are they sending

00:04:39.440 that all the time you made a great point you know they're sharing it with all their government

00:04:42.120 agencies to find out who you are i get the same but that's how they sell you they sell you with

00:04:46.380 safety it's in the street it's in your car the children it's in your it's in your house it's

00:04:50.920 over here and next thing you know it's gonna be china china you walk around pat and if your face 0.99

00:04:54.960 and then they'll grab your face and they'll charge you for a ticket and they're having so many

00:04:58.860 freaking problems over there because it's your it's surveillance state to the t i don't i don't

00:05:03.240 like it because you don't know who the hell's taking this information and what they're doing

00:05:06.680 it going back to your point the airport airport tom you know that face scan you could deny that

00:05:11.240 that's not mandatory every single time i go to the airport and they ask for that thing i go i don't

00:05:15.440 want that they go oh okay then go around you're willingly giving them this this this data every

00:05:19.900 time so when it comes to this no pat this is just another way we're like no no it's for your

00:05:24.220 crashing and jake made a good point for texting and driving or sleeping that's the way they come

00:05:29.040 in and then guess what they have your face they have everything and listening to every single 0.86

00:05:32.400 thing that you say i don't like it i don't want the government in my freaking car in my house

00:05:36.380 in the street wherever the hell i am i'm i'm they're watching so let me ask you do you think 0.64

00:05:40.860 it'll get to a point so let's just say they're listening that if you go like this

00:05:45.240 i'm gonna sell small baseball mitts for people who are driving so you can put it up in front of

00:06:01.380 you like you're having a conference at the mound with the catcher or you mess with it you just say

00:06:07.400 yeah you know like the eddie murphy that one movies yeah what was that yeah it was the lips

00:06:13.700 where you don't hear the words not eddie murphy it's somebody else that's doing it uh he'd be

00:06:18.060 working it was i'm trying to see which one it was you invent some crazy language while you're

00:06:22.660 driving yeah what's he saying adam i really don't want to come to you with this story because you

00:06:26.680 have no moral authority yeah you don't even know what a car i was just gonna say i was just gonna

00:06:31.880 say this ain't my story i'm gonna let the car thank you you guys got this this is this isn't

00:06:37.140 this isn't for you buddy you're gonna be okay the same for me let me let me give you when an uber

00:06:40.840 story comes up you know who to call okay let me tell you this story it's one of the best stories

00:06:44.520 parents this is very important for you and i to think about there's a reason why i keep talking

00:06:49.780 about the future looks bright in 2013 they did a study at emory university guy named brian diaz

00:06:55.300 and Kerry Ressler did a study identifying to see if we pass our fears down to our kids

00:07:02.460 without us even knowing about it.

00:07:04.440 So they took a group of male mice, and they gave it acetophenone.

00:07:10.200 And every time, this is cherry blossom smell, every time they released this smell,

00:07:15.540 they would zap them with this pain.

00:07:18.380 Like, whoa, what was that?

00:07:20.000 Five minutes later, they released that smell again, zapped them again, the pain.

00:07:24.200 Whoa.

00:07:25.300 Five minutes ago, and they kept doing this with only male mice they were experimenting on.

00:07:30.520 Eventually, they did this for a few days, maybe a week, week and a half.

00:07:34.600 Then they took those same mice that now have tied fear to acetophenone, the smell, cherry blossom.

00:07:42.540 Then they put it in a room for them to mate with female mice.

00:07:46.400 Okay. 0.98

00:07:47.200 So then they mate. 0.99

00:07:48.400 Okay.

00:07:48.680 So these guys now have kids.

00:07:50.080 Okay.

00:07:50.360 Then they take the mice, the male mice, the father away from the baby.

00:07:54.640 Okay.

00:07:54.900 Then they take the babies, and they put other female mice, and they mate. 0.99

00:07:59.640 Then they put the grandkids in a complete different thing.

00:08:02.520 So you're with me so far.

00:08:03.180 I got you.

00:08:03.900 The grandfather fears the smell of acetophenone.

00:08:06.920 And he got zapped.

00:08:08.260 He got zapped every time.

00:08:10.380 Then his kids, and then his grandkids.

00:08:13.000 The grandkids have never met grandfather before.

00:08:15.320 They put him in a place, and all of a sudden, they sprayed the cherry blossom.

00:08:21.140 These grandkids were frightened, frightened,

00:08:25.940 because that fear from the grandfather had passed down to the grandkids.

00:08:29.900 Genetically, it goes.

00:08:30.500 And they've never been zapped.

00:08:31.580 And they've never been zapped.

00:08:33.240 Holy cow.

00:08:33.800 So what does this mean?

00:08:34.840 Yesterday, we're at the beach, and I'm watching how happy Brooklyn is.

00:08:39.920 And in my mind, you're running all these issues in your mind.

00:08:43.540 You're trying to solve all these problems.

00:08:44.620 You're kind of overwhelmed with all the stuff that's going on.

00:08:46.340 And I'm looking at her, and she's just happy.

00:08:49.500 She's happy playing in the sand.

00:08:51.460 She's happy running around.

00:08:52.740 Daddy, take me, take me, take me in the water.

00:08:54.340 It's cold.

00:08:54.700 No, no, don't put me in the water.

00:08:55.740 Daddy, daddy, take me, take me.

00:08:57.680 And then you start realizing we are all born with believing the future looks bright.

00:09:03.440 But if we're not too careful, we can pass down that fear to our own kids that can pass it down to their grandkids.

00:09:09.680 When people say, why do you believe the future looks bright?

00:09:11.600 I just do.

00:09:13.020 I just do.

00:09:13.780 I believe the future looks bright at the highest level.
