00:00:00.000 Here's one story of what you guys did, which is very weird,
00:00:03.220 and I think it's very important for parents to hear this.
00:00:05.720 A fake child services worker tries to take kids?
00:00:10.300 Did that really happen in Polk County?
00:00:12.260 A fake child services worker?
00:00:14.340 Oh, absolutely.
00:00:15.240 How did they do that?
00:00:16.180 How does that happen?
00:00:17.060 Well, that's scary in and of itself.
00:00:19.640 Can you pull this story up, Rob?
00:00:21.820 No, please continue.
00:00:23.200 He'll pull it off for the audience.
00:00:25.680 They pretended to be DCF workers. 0.99
00:00:30.000 and what this lady was going to do is she went to church with the mother of the child or the 1.00
00:00:39.080 children that was removed this one right here is this yes so what she was going to do is get the
00:00:44.580 child back where it was dc in dcf custody and return it to the mother who had who it had been
00:00:52.120 taken from so she goes there and pretends to be a dcf worker nicole terry thomas and so
00:01:01.460 the fortunately the person that was keeping the children at the time went okay um so show me your
00:01:10.180 id well i left it in the car well go back and get it well leave it at home well i left it at home
00:01:16.480 Well, so the fake DCF worker, this Nicole Terry Thomas, says,
00:01:22.460 if you don't give me the children, I'm going to call the sheriff's office.
00:01:26.160 And so she said, well, call the sheriff's office.
00:01:29.520 They called us out there.
00:01:31.280 Are you ready for this?
00:01:32.560 They called, this lady called us out there for us to help take the children 1.00
00:01:40.240 from the legitimate caregiver and give to the fake DCF worker. 1.00
00:01:46.480 And, of course, we got there, unraveled it, and put her in jail.
00:01:50.960 And there's a Nicole Terry Thomas, 56 years old,
00:01:53.140 accused of pretending to be a Child Protective Services employee
00:01:55.880 in an attempt to kidnap a 9-year-old boy from his babysitter's home.
00:02:00.520 Right.
00:02:00.860 How does she profit from it? 0.56
00:02:02.300 Well, she was a friend with a mother who lost the child.
00:02:06.740 Got it.
00:02:07.700 And she was going to act as if she was the DCF worker,
00:02:12.000 get the child, and return it to the mother. 0.51
00:02:14.680 I got it.
00:02:15.040 So it wasn't like a child trafficking thing.
00:02:17.380 It was just trying to get it. 0.95
00:02:18.840 Now, how much time is she facing for doing this? 0.83
00:02:20.960 Well, when you look at the charges, she could get decades. 0.55
00:02:25.700 But I don't think she had a real history.
00:02:27.940 She was a church-growing woman.
00:02:29.320 She just had mental health issues, and it seemed to make sense to her at the time.
00:02:33.740 Wow.
00:02:34.440 So a regular person who thought it was doing a favor for a friend could end up doing 10 years plus.
00:02:39.380 Oh, yes.
00:02:40.060 Easy.
00:02:40.640 Are you serious? 0.98
00:02:41.380 She attempted to kidnap the child.

00:03:47.260 So a friend of the mother tries to get the kid is going to end up getting a decade.
00:03:52.000 Church-going person.
00:03:54.080 Unbelievable.
00:03:55.320 Unbelievable to see something like this happen.
00:03:57.500 Okay, here's another one for you because you got a list of these.
00:04:00.240 Store clerk arrested for selling alcohol to minors.
00:04:03.060 Okay?
00:04:03.240 When I was a kid, I had friends of mine who had these store clerks.
00:04:08.420 When you're 16 years old and you're raising a very difficult upbringing and you party a lot, these people were your friends.
00:04:16.040 But, of course, we know they're not good to society because of what they're doing.
00:04:19.140 Sure.
00:04:19.400 How do you guys handle this crime in Polk County?
00:04:21.600 Well, it's interesting because we go undercover to all the convenience stores, and we go with what we call our explorers or our cadets.
00:04:33.240 a.k.a. our kids that are.
00:04:35.180 How old are these kids?
00:04:36.220 They're 17, 18 years old.
00:04:37.980 You hired these kids?
00:04:39.220 No, no, no.
00:04:40.440 It's part of the Explorer, the police program.
00:04:42.920 They want to be cops one day.
00:04:44.820 So we go undercover and we send them in with money and try to buy beer.
00:04:49.240 Oh, my God.
00:04:50.800 And what we were doing in the beginning, if they sold them beer,
00:04:55.480 we were giving them a notice to appear, the clerks, right?
00:04:59.540 But they weren't paying any attention to us.
00:05:02.140 They were just taking their ticket, paying their fine, and going to rent.
00:05:05.700 So I said, hey, we'll stop that.
00:05:08.400 Now when they go undercover, and we call it auditing, we audit these stores.
00:05:13.560 When they sell beer to an undercover child, we arrest them, put them in handcuffs, and take them to jail.
00:05:23.540 It has slowed the sale of alcohol down to minors.
00:05:29.240 How many of these have you done?
00:05:32.220 Oh, we do them every week or two.
00:05:35.240 And how many kids do you guys send out?
00:05:36.880 We normally send a team out.
00:05:41.000 So say tonight, it's run out of our school resources division.
00:05:46.820 So our deputies get a lot of feedback about, hey,
00:05:49.900 we heard that this store is selling to children
00:05:52.220 or this store is selling to children.
00:05:53.860 So our school resource deputies take our students
00:05:58.580 that are in our cadet program, and we go work undercover,
00:06:03.680 and we'll do 10, 15, 20 stores a night, depending on how many arrests we make.
00:06:08.480 What's your success ratio? 0.94
00:06:09.400 If you do 20, how many of them will do a dumb thing
00:06:11.720 and just sell them the alcohol? 0.89
00:06:14.040 Maybe one or two.
00:06:15.100 Oh, so 5%.
00:06:16.040 It's not a big percentage.
00:06:17.400 Now.
00:06:18.180 Okay.
00:06:18.720 It used to be what?
00:06:19.820 Now, it used to be 30, 35%.
00:06:22.740 Oh, got it.
00:06:23.500 So that's a big drop off because people are not always here.
00:06:25.700 And how much time do those do who sold the alcohol to a minor?
00:06:28.120 Normally they get fined when they go to court unless, you know,
00:06:33.240 because I don't know that I've ever had a repeat on that.
00:06:37.120 But here's something else I do.
00:06:39.260 For all of the stores that pass, I send a letter.
00:06:42.540 I sign the letter.
00:06:43.740 We print it out and say, congratulations.
00:06:47.940 We went undercover at your store, and you did not sell to the minors.
00:06:52.640 Thank you very much for adding to the positive environment to raise our children.
00:06:56.200 So you not only humiliate the ones that screwed up,
00:06:59.200 but you lift up the people that are doing the right thing.
00:07:01.220 Absolutely.
00:07:02.100 And I've gone into convenience stores and seen my letter posted in their store.
00:07:06.560 I love that.
00:07:07.200 Of course, that's an honor to say, look, and I would frame that and put it up.
00:07:11.060 Absolutely.
00:07:11.740 That's amazing.
00:07:12.340 You know, this whole thing with Vagitamin and PPD Podcast started with a phone, me and Mario.
