00:00:00.000 This is an iHeart Podcast.
00:00:02.480 Guaranteed human.
00:00:05.500 It's Verdict Live from Arizona
00:00:08.160 at the Goldwater Institute dinner.
00:00:10.680 Welcome.
00:00:14.440 Senator, good to be with you.
00:00:16.040 We are here in Arizona.
00:00:18.000 Goldwater Institute had an amazing dinner
00:00:20.040 with an incredible crowd that many people
00:00:22.260 will hear in the background here.
00:00:23.960 Thank you guys for having us.
00:00:25.620 And we've got a lot to talk about tonight
00:00:31.020 and we're also going to get some Q&A in here
00:00:32.940 from the audience,
00:00:33.640 which is one of your favorite things to do on the road.
00:00:35.580 You love that.
00:00:36.320 Look, Ben, that's exactly right.
00:00:37.740 And let me say, Goldwater Institute
00:00:39.000 is an amazing institution.
00:00:40.820 It is the premier free market think tank in Arizona.
00:00:44.840 It has been a leading advocate for liberty
00:00:47.400 here in Arizona and across the nation.
00:00:49.920 And Goldwater in particular
00:00:51.120 has been extraordinary leading on school choice.
00:00:53.840 Arizona has been at the tip of the spear
00:00:57.000 on school choice.
00:00:59.760 They've made an incredible difference,
00:01:01.460 not just with the kids in Arizona,
00:01:03.720 but they've been a model to the entire nation.
00:01:06.200 And so you and I are proud to be here
00:01:07.840 to support the great work Goldwater does,
00:01:10.360 but also to bring this podcast to everyone here.
00:01:14.260 And as we get started,
00:01:16.260 I want to let everyone here know,
00:01:18.320 this podcast we have just under a million viewers
00:01:21.760 and listeners that listen every month
00:01:24.040 to this podcast.
00:01:25.620 On Verdict, we are beating CNN every single week.
00:01:33.560 And so every one of you,
00:01:35.280 there's a very simple path.
00:01:36.560 If you have your cell phone,
00:01:37.640 you can take your cell phone out right now.
00:01:39.920 And you can text the word Verdict
00:01:43.260 to the number 24005.
00:01:48.320 Let me give that to you again.
00:01:49.920 The number is 24005.
00:01:53.480 If you text the word Verdict,
00:01:56.060 what you will get back is a link
00:01:58.040 to subscribe to the podcast.
00:01:59.800 And I'll say something.
00:02:00.640 Which is free.
00:02:01.800 This is the best part.
00:02:02.700 And that's the point my dad,
00:02:04.320 my dad is 84 years old.
00:02:07.720 And he pointed out to me,
00:02:08.960 look, when you say subscribe,
00:02:11.200 my generation thinks you mean magazine subscriptions
00:02:13.780 and you're going to charge me.
00:02:15.560 So there ain't any cost,
00:02:17.100 but you can get it downloaded to your phone
00:02:19.240 every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
00:02:21.500 And it is a tool to give you the information
00:02:25.340 about what's happening in this country
00:02:26.780 because we know that the corporate media
00:02:29.440 is profoundly dishonest.
00:02:31.740 And this is designed to empower patriots in Arizona
00:02:35.780 and across the country
00:02:37.420 who are fighting to pull our country back.
00:02:39.900 You mentioned school of choice
00:02:41.140 and we're going to get to that.
00:02:42.080 We're also going to get some breaking news
00:02:43.540 that deals with the Supreme Court.
00:02:44.680 But before we get to that,
00:02:46.400 let's start and talk about
00:02:47.780 what's going on in Israel right now.
00:02:49.880 There has been over the last 24, 48 hours
00:02:52.500 a pretty significant shift,
00:02:54.920 especially from the media in this country
00:02:58.220 and also around the world
00:02:59.560 and more calls for a, quote,
00:03:01.660 humanitarian ceasefire.
00:03:04.040 It is frustrating when you see this
00:03:06.260 because it's clear that Israel
00:03:08.360 is having to defend itself
00:03:10.040 from these horrific terrorists.
00:03:12.460 We've heard even more about their atrocities,
00:03:14.560 including putting children in ovens,
00:03:16.380 babies in ovens that were found.
00:03:18.480 We know that they beheaded infant children.
00:03:20.900 And yet the media is now trying to put pressure,
00:03:22.820 not on the terrorists,
00:03:24.380 but on Israel to just say pause
00:03:27.240 so that many of these terrorists
00:03:28.800 would not be brought to justice,
00:03:30.220 which I think for many we agree
00:03:31.440 should be that they are taken off
00:03:33.120 the face of this earth.
00:03:39.160 Well, Ben, as you know,
00:03:40.760 this has been a battle
00:03:42.220 and it's been a battle
00:03:43.040 with the Biden administration
00:03:44.480 from the very beginning of this war.
00:03:46.160 This war began on October 7th
00:03:49.140 with a grotesque act of atrocities.
00:03:54.200 The attacks of Hamas
00:03:55.960 were the worst attacks
00:03:58.260 on the state of Israel
00:03:59.200 in over 50 years.
00:04:01.840 On October 7th,
00:04:03.180 it was the single greatest mass murder
00:04:05.540 of Jews in any single day
00:04:07.740 since the Holocaust.
00:04:10.320 And Hamas terrorists,
00:04:11.760 the death squads,
00:04:13.160 went house to house,
00:04:14.660 murdering every person in that house,
00:04:17.860 seeking out civilians,
00:04:19.660 murdering elderly people,
00:04:21.700 murdering women,
00:04:22.620 murdering children,
00:04:24.720 violently raping women
00:04:26.440 and little girls,
00:04:27.380 dragging them into the streets,
00:04:29.500 and murdering,
00:04:30.220 murdering, beheading,
00:04:31.460 and burning alive infants.
00:04:34.480 It has been sick.
00:04:36.040 It has been grotesque.
00:04:38.240 Over 1,400 Israelis
00:04:40.060 have been murdered.
00:04:40.760 Over 200 Israelis
00:04:43.120 are held hostage right now.
00:04:46.160 And not only was this
00:04:47.440 one of the worst attacks
00:04:48.580 on Israel in history,
00:04:50.020 this is also one of the worst
00:04:51.440 terrorist attacks
00:04:52.320 on the United States in history.
00:04:54.320 On that day,
00:04:55.440 31 Americans were murdered.
00:04:57.320 There are roughly
00:04:57.840 a dozen Americans
00:04:59.360 that are held hostage right now.
00:05:01.640 And I want to say
00:05:02.800 at the outset,
00:05:03.560 it is critical
00:05:04.500 that we should be unequivocal
00:05:08.040 that America stands squarely
00:05:10.940 with the state of Israel.
00:05:12.840 Amen.
00:05:16.400 It's also shocking,
00:05:18.580 I think,
00:05:19.200 to so many people
00:05:20.360 that there is such a divide
00:05:22.200 right now
00:05:22.840 on the issue of Israel
00:05:24.200 within the Democratic Party.
00:05:26.260 When you talk about
00:05:27.140 the atrocities
00:05:27.940 that you just mentioned,
00:05:29.380 it should be a pretty easy
00:05:30.940 political moment,
00:05:32.360 I would argue.
00:05:33.740 And 10, 15, 20 years ago,
00:05:36.240 this would not have been hard.
00:05:38.040 How is it that so many Democrats,
00:05:39.880 they're not just screwing it up,
00:05:41.000 they are actually advocating
00:05:43.480 for the terrorist organization,
00:05:46.320 for those supporting
00:05:47.180 the terrorist organization,
00:05:48.420 and we're witnessing it
00:05:49.640 in the streets in America,
00:05:50.860 we're witnessing it
00:05:51.520 on college campuses,
00:05:52.860 we're witnessing it
00:05:53.820 all over the world,
00:05:54.880 whether it's in Berlin,
00:05:55.900 whether it's in France,
00:05:56.960 whether it's at the Opera House
00:05:58.600 in Australia.
00:05:59.580 There are large groups of people
00:06:01.320 in countries all over the world
00:06:04.100 and college campuses
00:06:05.680 that are advocating
00:06:06.680 for Hamas and the Palestinians.
00:06:09.140 Look, it has been tragic to watch
00:06:10.900 that on the far left today,
00:06:13.380 there is a blatant strain
00:06:17.060 of hatred for Israel
00:06:19.400 and virulent anti-Semitism.
00:06:22.640 We see it in the House of Representatives
00:06:24.220 in the squad,
00:06:25.460 and the squad are viciously anti-Israel.
00:06:28.720 You and I on this podcast
00:06:29.720 talked about the video
00:06:30.880 of Rashida Tlaib
00:06:31.680 walking down the halls
00:06:33.420 of the House
00:06:34.700 when being asked,
00:06:36.060 what do you think
00:06:36.700 about women and children
00:06:37.560 being raped?
00:06:38.300 What do you think
00:06:38.880 about infants being murdered?
00:06:40.340 And she refused to answer.
00:06:41.940 And I will say
00:06:42.760 it has been tragic
00:06:43.860 to watch college campuses
00:06:46.040 across this country
00:06:47.100 as vicious anti-Semitism
00:06:49.260 has broken out.
00:06:50.560 This week,
00:06:51.280 I saw a video
00:06:52.480 from my alma mater,
00:06:53.540 from Harvard,
00:06:54.720 of a Jewish student
00:06:55.980 being harassed,
00:06:57.160 being threatened,
00:06:58.320 being surrounded
00:06:58.680 surrounded by angry protesters
00:07:00.760 screaming shame, shame, shame.
00:07:03.520 Look, I called on Harvard.
00:07:05.040 Any student doing that
00:07:06.380 to another student
00:07:07.260 should be expelled immediately.
00:07:12.780 But let me say something else, Ben,
00:07:15.480 because unfortunately
00:07:16.620 it's not just the radicals
00:07:18.460 in the House.
00:07:19.320 It's not just the radicals
00:07:20.900 on university campuses.
00:07:23.260 The Biden administration
00:07:24.880 from the very beginning
00:07:26.820 of this war
00:07:27.600 has systematically
00:07:28.620 undermined Israel.
00:07:30.520 When the war began
00:07:31.820 on October 7th,
00:07:33.740 early in the morning,
00:07:35.040 at 3 in the morning,
00:07:36.060 the State Department,
00:07:37.020 the Office of Palestinian Affairs,
00:07:38.680 tweeted out,
00:07:40.380 they said,
00:07:41.020 we condemn the attack of Hamas,
00:07:43.460 but we urge both sides
00:07:45.100 to engage in no retaliation,
00:07:47.600 no military acts.
00:07:49.640 Violence solves nothing.
00:07:51.520 This is literally,
00:07:52.620 as Israel is having
00:07:53.680 terrorists murder
00:07:54.740 that night,
00:07:56.400 upwards of 1,000 Israelis.
00:07:59.060 The U.S. State Department
00:08:00.500 said, Israel,
00:08:01.220 don't respond at all.
00:08:02.560 Do nothing.
00:08:03.280 Do not strike back
00:08:04.460 at the terrorists.
00:08:05.540 Now, my staff and I,
00:08:06.640 we spotted that tweet
00:08:07.760 at 3 in the morning.
00:08:10.200 And we condemned it loudly.
00:08:12.080 I said, look,
00:08:12.800 everyone involved
00:08:13.620 in drafting this tweet,
00:08:15.100 everyone involved
00:08:15.800 in approving it
00:08:16.520 should be fired.
00:08:17.540 The State Department,
00:08:18.660 within hours,
00:08:19.760 deleted the tweet.
00:08:20.500 The next day,
00:08:22.160 Tony Blinken,
00:08:22.840 the Secretary of State,
00:08:24.520 sent out another tweet.
00:08:26.220 He said he had just talked
00:08:27.620 with the Turkish
00:08:28.180 Foreign Minister
00:08:29.000 and they had agreed
00:08:30.460 that it was imperative
00:08:31.560 to have a ceasefire.
00:08:34.640 Understand that the word
00:08:36.000 ceasefire,
00:08:36.780 listen,
00:08:37.460 Hamas does not intend
00:08:38.600 to have a ceasefire
00:08:39.640 until they murder
00:08:40.760 every Jew they can find.
00:08:43.080 That's when they intend
00:08:44.180 to stop.
00:08:45.440 Prime Minister Netanyahu
00:08:46.580 has rightly said
00:08:47.700 that they are going
00:08:49.040 to utterly eliminate Hamas.
00:08:51.720 And every time you hear
00:08:52.960 a Democrat or the media
00:08:55.040 saying the word ceasefire,
00:08:59.380 what they are saying
00:09:00.600 is protect Hamas
00:09:01.760 and stop Israel
00:09:03.400 from retaliating.
00:09:04.840 Right now,
00:09:05.940 the U.S. Secretary of State,
00:09:07.240 Tony Blinken,
00:09:08.500 is in Israel
00:09:09.280 and he went there
00:09:11.220 to argue for what he called
00:09:13.200 a, quote,
00:09:14.440 humanitarian pause.
00:09:16.520 Yeah.
00:09:16.620 Now that's just
00:09:18.060 fancy Orwellian speak
00:09:19.740 for a ceasefire.
00:09:21.440 What he's saying
00:09:22.400 is Israel,
00:09:23.580 please don't kill
00:09:24.620 the terrorists.
00:09:25.280 He's also arguing,
00:09:26.860 Israel,
00:09:27.700 please give fuel
00:09:30.100 to the terrorists.
00:09:32.600 So in the Gaza Strip,
00:09:34.160 many of the Hamas terrorists
00:09:35.480 are in tunnels
00:09:36.480 that they have dug
00:09:37.300 underground.
00:09:38.360 Those tunnels
00:09:39.080 are ventilated,
00:09:40.160 they are powered
00:09:40.960 by fuel generators.
00:09:42.820 And so Israel has said,
00:09:44.000 we're cutting off
00:09:45.000 your fuel.
00:09:45.460 What is the Biden
00:09:47.080 State Department saying?
00:09:48.460 Send fuel in there.
00:09:49.680 The reason Israel's
00:09:50.580 cutting off the fuel
00:09:51.480 is to get the terrorists
00:09:52.960 out of the tunnels
00:09:53.840 so they can kill
00:09:55.220 the terrorists
00:09:56.120 who are targeting
00:09:57.160 and murdering civilians.
00:09:59.240 And I got to say,
00:10:00.900 and this is something,
00:10:01.900 so in the last three weeks,
00:10:04.240 this podcast,
00:10:05.240 we've done a deep dive
00:10:06.220 on what's happening
00:10:06.900 in Israel,
00:10:07.540 examining
00:10:08.080 the atrocities
00:10:10.960 that were carried out,
00:10:11.860 but also examining
00:10:13.000 the complicity
00:10:14.340 of the Biden administration.
00:10:15.400 It is funding
00:10:16.680 this attack.
00:10:17.880 It has flowed
00:10:18.560 over $100 billion
00:10:20.440 to Iran
00:10:21.720 who planned
00:10:23.180 and directed
00:10:23.880 this attack.
00:10:25.200 But not only that,
00:10:26.640 on this podcast,
00:10:27.540 we've explained
00:10:28.460 how the corporate media
00:10:29.540 is an integral part
00:10:31.500 of Hamas's war plan.
00:10:33.200 We had a podcast episode
00:10:34.400 that was entitled,
00:10:36.020 CNN
00:10:36.400 is Hamas's Air Force.
00:10:40.380 So is MSNBC,
00:10:42.240 so is ABC.
00:10:43.400 It's scary,
00:10:44.040 it's accurate.
00:10:44.500 It's terrifying.
00:10:45.320 Yeah.
00:10:45.700 And we went through
00:10:47.060 a dozen different clips,
00:10:49.440 including,
00:10:50.180 we played one
00:10:50.880 on this podcast.
00:10:51.920 By the way,
00:10:52.260 go back and download this.
00:10:53.340 If you did not
00:10:54.780 get to hear this,
00:10:56.220 this is why I love
00:10:57.480 doing this show with you
00:10:58.440 because we take time
00:11:00.140 and we pulled
00:11:01.120 all these clips
00:11:01.960 and we played them
00:11:03.060 back to back.
00:11:03.400 And you can't get it
00:11:03.840 anywhere else.
00:11:04.480 Yeah,
00:11:04.640 no one else is playing this
00:11:05.680 and we put it
00:11:06.280 back to back
00:11:07.060 to back to back
00:11:07.900 so you can watch
00:11:09.120 the American media
00:11:10.460 defend this
00:11:11.580 terrorist organization.
00:11:12.960 Well,
00:11:13.180 and one of the most
00:11:14.020 stunning is CNN
00:11:14.920 had a spokesperson
00:11:16.400 for the Palestinians
00:11:17.580 who went on CNN
00:11:19.520 and said,
00:11:21.200 Hamas only attacks
00:11:22.740 military targets,
00:11:23.820 they never attack
00:11:24.580 civilians,
00:11:25.420 and the Israelis
00:11:27.020 deliberately target
00:11:28.480 civilians.
00:11:30.480 And CNN sat there
00:11:32.260 as they utterly lied,
00:11:33.720 they erred globally,
00:11:35.680 terrorist propaganda,
00:11:38.120 which is exactly
00:11:39.180 opposite of the truth.
00:11:40.280 And I'll point out,
00:11:40.940 not only is it the case
00:11:42.620 that Hamas deliberately
00:11:43.700 was murdering civilians,
00:11:44.740 and by the way,
00:11:45.560 they don't keep this
00:11:46.360 a secret.
00:11:47.380 They videoed themselves
00:11:48.640 and put the videos
00:11:49.620 out for the world.
00:11:50.540 They're proud of it.
00:11:52.160 But not only that,
00:11:53.360 the Israelis go
00:11:54.400 to extraordinary lengths,
00:11:55.940 more than any military
00:11:57.780 on the face of the planet
00:11:58.820 to avoid civilian deaths.
00:12:00.280 Now, tragically,
00:12:02.840 we know there will be
00:12:03.720 Palestinian civilian deaths,
00:12:05.120 but the reason for that
00:12:06.160 is Hamas deliberately
00:12:07.720 using human shields.
00:12:09.560 They want Palestinian
00:12:11.120 civilians to die.
00:12:12.340 So, for example,
00:12:13.640 they put their military
00:12:14.560 headquarters in the basement
00:12:15.680 of a hospital.
00:12:16.760 They put missiles
00:12:17.880 in kindergarten classrooms
00:12:19.960 because when the Israelis
00:12:21.080 take out military targets,
00:12:23.340 they want there to be
00:12:25.540 dead Palestinians
00:12:26.620 because they then know,
00:12:28.640 Hamas knows they're not
00:12:29.740 strong enough
00:12:30.360 to defeat Israel.
00:12:32.480 But their plan
00:12:33.540 is for the useful idiots
00:12:35.120 in the global media
00:12:36.300 to take those images
00:12:38.260 and demonize Israel,
00:12:40.320 which is why it is
00:12:41.220 so important
00:12:42.020 to speak out
00:12:43.080 and speak the truth.
00:12:44.140 One of the things
00:12:44.900 about being here
00:12:45.840 at the Goldwater Institute
00:12:46.720 for this event
00:12:47.600 is we get to talk
00:12:48.720 about a subject
00:12:49.320 that's really important
00:12:50.320 that I know many of you
00:12:51.460 care about,
00:12:52.520 and that's an issue
00:12:53.360 at the Supreme Court.
00:12:54.420 There is a really
00:12:56.860 important week coming up
00:12:58.480 that deals with
00:12:59.120 the Supreme Court, Senator,
00:13:00.200 and I want you to talk
00:13:01.240 about this,
00:13:02.180 a vote that's coming up
00:13:03.260 in judiciary
00:13:03.800 and it's not being
00:13:05.720 covered by anyone.
00:13:06.740 Yep.
00:13:07.140 And it's going to have
00:13:08.160 or could have
00:13:08.820 major consequences,
00:13:10.180 and part of this
00:13:11.180 is the left's
00:13:12.380 clear vision
00:13:14.960 to change
00:13:16.180 or alter the Supreme Court
00:13:17.540 and how the American
00:13:18.680 people look at it,
00:13:19.520 how they view it,
00:13:20.700 undermining the Supreme Court,
00:13:22.500 undermining directly
00:13:23.580 justices,
00:13:24.420 influencing justice.
00:13:25.580 We saw this
00:13:26.160 with Roe v. Wade
00:13:26.880 and the leaking
00:13:27.880 of that document beforehand.
00:13:29.520 We saw how the left
00:13:31.020 allowed them to go
00:13:32.040 after these Supreme Court
00:13:33.040 justices at their homes
00:13:34.020 and no one was held
00:13:35.120 accountable for that either.
00:13:36.660 So the left
00:13:37.680 has been engaged
00:13:38.680 in a multi-year
00:13:39.820 systematic effort
00:13:41.000 to undermine
00:13:42.540 and delegitimize
00:13:43.840 the Supreme Court.
00:13:45.700 They view it
00:13:46.580 as the one institution
00:13:47.640 of government.
00:13:48.320 They don't have
00:13:48.660 a stranglehold on it.
00:13:50.080 Yeah.
00:13:50.420 And so their intention
00:13:51.760 is to destroy the court.
00:13:53.220 And it has featured
00:13:54.880 things including
00:13:55.700 Chuck Schumer
00:13:56.460 standing on the steps
00:13:58.040 of the court
00:13:58.640 threatening justices
00:14:00.480 by name
00:14:01.200 and saying
00:14:02.120 if you do not rule
00:14:03.140 the way he wants them to
00:14:04.600 that you have
00:14:05.800 unleashed
00:14:06.660 the whirlwind
00:14:07.720 and you will pay
00:14:09.280 the price.
00:14:09.840 We saw
00:14:11.420 we saw the leak
00:14:12.380 of the Supreme Court's
00:14:13.980 Dobbs decision.
00:14:14.820 We then also have seen
00:14:16.080 week after week
00:14:17.540 month after month
00:14:18.640 angry violent protesters
00:14:20.520 outside the homes
00:14:22.040 of Supreme Court justices.
00:14:23.760 Now it's a federal crime
00:14:25.000 to protest
00:14:26.460 at the home
00:14:27.220 of a federal judge
00:14:28.200 trying to influence
00:14:29.320 the outcome
00:14:29.860 of an election.
00:14:30.620 Let's just say that again
00:14:31.560 because I don't think
00:14:32.120 people realize that
00:14:32.700 of any federal judge
00:14:33.840 not just Supreme Court.
00:14:35.500 You can't go
00:14:36.360 and threaten
00:14:36.860 a federal judge
00:14:37.680 at their home.
00:14:38.120 It's a federal crime.
00:14:39.120 Now the Biden
00:14:40.120 Justice Department
00:14:40.980 you know how many people
00:14:41.820 they prosecuted
00:14:42.640 for violating that law?
00:14:45.360 Zero.
00:14:46.320 Not a single one.
00:14:48.080 Now it got so bad
00:14:49.280 there was one lunatic
00:14:50.820 that traveled
00:14:51.500 from California
00:14:52.420 all the way
00:14:53.800 to Bethesda, Maryland.
00:14:54.940 He brought a gun
00:14:55.740 he brought a knife
00:14:56.780 he brought duct tape
00:14:57.820 and he came there
00:14:58.680 to murder
00:14:59.560 Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
00:15:01.540 He was apprehended.
00:15:03.440 He's being prosecuted
00:15:04.700 for attempted murder.
00:15:06.480 But every night
00:15:07.720 and he should be
00:15:08.460 but every night
00:15:09.740 the people who are
00:15:10.440 committing criminal
00:15:11.200 criminal offenses
00:15:12.100 in front of the
00:15:13.280 justices' houses
00:15:14.140 trying to intimidate them
00:15:16.040 the Biden Department
00:15:16.840 of Justice Merrick Garland
00:15:18.100 refuses to follow
00:15:19.900 federal law.
00:15:20.720 So the latest iteration
00:15:22.960 in the Democrats' efforts
00:15:24.160 to undermine
00:15:24.720 the Supreme Court
00:15:25.580 is they have been
00:15:27.380 targeting a smear campaign
00:15:28.960 directed at Clarence Thomas.
00:15:30.920 Now I know
00:15:31.420 Justice Thomas very well.
00:15:33.320 I believe
00:15:33.900 Justice Clarence Thomas
00:15:35.060 is an American hero.
00:15:36.960 He's an extraordinary man
00:15:43.720 he's a brilliant man
00:15:44.620 actually I want to
00:15:45.120 take a digression
00:15:45.760 he's so funny by the way
00:15:47.000 I want to tell you
00:15:47.860 a fun story
00:15:48.720 about Justice Thomas
00:15:49.620 so I was a law clerk
00:15:51.660 at the Supreme Court
00:15:52.540 from 1996 to 1997
00:15:54.280 and when I was
00:15:55.560 clerking at the court
00:15:56.380 I clerked for Chief
00:15:58.420 Justice William Rehnquist
00:15:59.460 I got to know
00:16:00.080 Justice Thomas
00:16:00.740 very well
00:16:01.320 and at the time
00:16:03.560 two stories
00:16:04.220 about Justice Thomas
00:16:05.020 number one
00:16:05.840 one of my co-clerks
00:16:07.100 was a guy named Rick Gardner
00:16:08.060 he's a professor of law
00:16:08.980 at Notre Dame
00:16:09.480 and Rick and his wife
00:16:11.260 had tutored
00:16:12.540 a young African American kid
00:16:15.220 in Arkansas
00:16:15.780 the year before
00:16:16.440 his name was Carlos
00:16:17.140 he was a 7th grader
00:16:18.060 and Rick and Nicole said
00:16:20.260 okay we want to fly Carlos
00:16:21.640 to Washington DC
00:16:22.920 he'd never left Arkansas
00:16:24.900 he'd never seen it
00:16:25.700 and they said
00:16:26.040 we want to bring him there
00:16:26.800 and so Carlos came
00:16:28.800 and Rick sent an email
00:16:29.740 to all nine Supreme Court
00:16:30.900 justices
00:16:31.440 and he said
00:16:32.480 hey this kid
00:16:33.180 my wife and I tutored
00:16:34.240 is coming
00:16:35.600 would you be willing
00:16:36.460 to meet with him
00:16:37.200 two said yes
00:16:39.480 Ruth Bader Ginsburg
00:16:41.040 and Clarence Thomas
00:16:41.900 now Ruth Bader Ginsburg
00:16:43.900 it was very nice
00:16:44.800 of her to meet with him
00:16:45.840 and they had a conversation
00:16:47.860 but look
00:16:48.380 it was a little stilted
00:16:49.840 she was very prim
00:16:51.000 she was very proper
00:16:52.480 she was like a librarian
00:16:53.540 and for a kid
00:16:55.580 who grew up
00:16:56.120 in rural Arkansas
00:16:56.920 it was difficult
00:16:57.660 to understand
00:16:58.680 and really connect
00:17:00.220 with Mrs. Ginsburg
00:17:01.320 but it was very gracious
00:17:02.960 of her to say yes
00:17:03.900 the other who said yes
00:17:05.880 was Clarence Thomas
00:17:06.720 now Clarence Thomas
00:17:08.240 grew up in Pinpoint, Georgia
00:17:09.700 Pinpoint is a tiny
00:17:10.960 rural town in Georgia
00:17:12.200 he grew up
00:17:13.400 in abject poverty
00:17:14.600 and he sat there
00:17:16.200 talking with Carlos
00:17:17.360 he spent over an hour
00:17:18.500 with his 7th grade kid
00:17:20.520 talking with him
00:17:21.420 at the end of the discussion
00:17:23.720 Carlos
00:17:25.960 the Supreme Court
00:17:26.860 didn't mean a whole lot
00:17:27.700 to him
00:17:28.060 but Justice Thomas
00:17:30.180 had a picture of himself
00:17:31.520 with Troy Aikman
00:17:32.220 he's a huge Dallas Cowboys fan
00:17:33.800 and that impressed Carlos
00:17:36.520 like wow
00:17:37.180 that's a big deal
00:17:38.820 you know Aikman
00:17:39.680 that's yeah
00:17:40.180 you're in
00:17:40.860 and Justice Thomas
00:17:43.020 saw how impressed he was
00:17:44.680 and he had on his desk
00:17:45.780 he had a ticket
00:17:46.620 to the Super Bowl
00:17:48.080 encased in Lucite
00:17:50.620 and signed by Emmett Smith
00:17:52.300 and he grabbed it
00:17:54.180 off his desk
00:17:54.780 he said Carlos
00:17:55.440 I'm going to give you
00:17:55.980 this ticket
00:17:56.400 but he said
00:17:58.480 I want you to promise me
00:18:00.400 you're going to get A's
00:18:02.160 in school next year
00:18:03.040 and Carlos
00:18:04.980 with wide open eyes
00:18:06.420 nodded and said
00:18:07.320 yes sir I will
00:18:08.360 that's one day
00:18:10.040 that was never reported
00:18:11.020 that was never commented
00:18:11.900 there were no cameras there
00:18:13.000 that's who Justice Thomas is
00:18:14.960 here's a second story
00:18:15.820 so my college roommate
00:18:18.140 and best friend
00:18:19.360 other than Heidi
00:18:20.080 it's a guy you know well
00:18:21.580 David Panton
00:18:22.260 oh yeah
00:18:22.740 he is Jamaican
00:18:24.220 he is an extraordinary guy
00:18:26.380 and he was president
00:18:28.700 of the Harvard Law Review
00:18:29.760 so the first black president
00:18:31.980 of the Harvard Law Review
00:18:32.820 was a guy named Barack Obama
00:18:34.200 I'm not sure what he went on
00:18:36.220 to do after that
00:18:37.000 you can google it
00:18:39.140 if you need to check that out later
00:18:40.300 the second black president
00:18:42.120 of the Harvard Law Review
00:18:43.020 was my old roommate
00:18:43.980 David Panton
00:18:44.580 and so David
00:18:46.440 when I was clerking
00:18:47.380 he said look
00:18:47.980 I'd really love to meet
00:18:48.960 Justice Thomas
00:18:49.600 and so I asked the justice
00:18:51.120 hey my roommate's
00:18:52.680 president of the Law Review
00:18:53.420 would you be willing
00:18:54.000 to meet with him
00:18:54.480 he said sure
00:18:54.920 so they came
00:18:57.280 David came up
00:18:58.960 and the two of them sat
00:18:59.960 and I sat in on the meeting
00:19:00.960 they spent again
00:19:01.700 about an hour
00:19:02.240 hour and a half
00:19:02.740 talking
00:19:03.060 got along famously
00:19:04.400 Justice Thomas
00:19:06.940 wanted David
00:19:07.580 to come clerk for him
00:19:08.580 and David
00:19:10.240 David is
00:19:10.860 in private equity
00:19:12.160 he's gone into business
00:19:13.060 and David says
00:19:14.480 David says
00:19:16.020 no no no
00:19:16.760 I leave
00:19:18.060 he's Jamaican
00:19:18.900 so he has this
00:19:19.420 lilting Jamaican accent
00:19:20.560 he goes no no no
00:19:21.280 I leave law
00:19:22.900 to the smart people
00:19:24.380 and Justice Thomas
00:19:27.080 leans forward
00:19:27.760 and says
00:19:28.180 so do I
00:19:29.060 and it was just
00:19:32.100 I'm sitting there
00:19:32.780 like holy cow
00:19:33.580 how am I sitting there
00:19:34.520 watching this
00:19:35.560 extraordinary exchange
00:19:36.760 by the way
00:19:37.300 side note
00:19:37.860 because this is the best
00:19:38.800 part about doing this show
00:19:39.480 and they're both brilliant
00:19:40.280 both brilliant
00:19:40.840 but this is the best part
00:19:41.540 about doing this show
00:19:42.140 I get to pull back the curtain
00:19:43.480 you are obsessed
00:19:45.100 with basketball
00:19:45.800 people may not realize that
00:19:47.940 you play
00:19:48.580 at least what
00:19:49.400 twice a week
00:19:50.080 I play twice a week
00:19:50.960 obsessed is strong
00:19:52.080 I should have a better game
00:19:53.340 if I was actually obsessed
00:19:54.240 you love it
00:19:54.300 you love basketball
00:19:55.220 it is your thing
00:19:56.520 Clarence Thomas likes basketball
00:19:58.080 he does
00:19:58.940 he used to play
00:19:59.320 did you ever play
00:20:00.080 did y'all ever play
00:20:00.860 when you were working
00:20:01.560 no and sadly I didn't
00:20:02.900 because his wife Jenny
00:20:03.800 won't let him play anymore
00:20:04.680 he hurt his knee
00:20:05.320 he used to play
00:20:06.560 we begged him to come out
00:20:07.860 and play
00:20:08.280 now Byron White
00:20:09.920 who was
00:20:11.800 who was
00:20:12.500 okay here's an interesting
00:20:14.060 bit of trivia
00:20:14.600 sorry we're taking
00:20:15.200 a total digression
00:20:15.940 but the fun thing
00:20:16.480 about a podcast
00:20:17.000 is we can do that
00:20:18.420 alright so let's do
00:20:20.200 a little bit of history
00:20:21.080 World War II
00:20:23.180 a boat
00:20:26.760 known as PT-109
00:20:28.900 is sunk in World War II
00:20:30.120 an intelligence report
00:20:33.180 is written
00:20:34.260 that describes
00:20:36.560 in the sinking of PT-109
00:20:38.400 incredible heroism
00:20:40.180 from a young sailor
00:20:42.960 by the name of
00:20:44.000 John Fitzgerald Kennedy
00:20:45.120 and this intelligence report
00:20:47.160 described
00:20:47.940 Kennedy as an incredible hero
00:20:49.820 fast forward 20 years
00:20:52.800 and JFK's president
00:20:53.940 JFK appointed one
00:20:56.260 and only one person
00:20:57.140 to the Supreme Court
00:20:57.880 do you know who that was
00:20:58.660 I don't
00:20:59.260 Byron White
00:21:00.700 do you know who wrote
00:21:02.060 the intelligence report
00:21:03.020 Byron White
00:21:05.020 that is the absolute
00:21:07.180 that's one way to get
00:21:07.740 on the Supreme Court
00:21:08.500 I guess right
00:21:09.060 that's the easiest way
00:21:09.820 it is the absolute truth
00:21:10.920 now Byron White
00:21:12.300 is someone that I think
00:21:14.720 would only exist
00:21:15.840 in like a
00:21:16.620 a fictional
00:21:17.520 Tom Wolfe book
00:21:18.660 Byron White
00:21:20.880 was second
00:21:23.740 in the balloting
00:21:24.520 for the Heisman Trophy
00:21:25.620 Byron White
00:21:28.300 was first
00:21:30.080 in his class
00:21:30.880 at Yale Law School
00:21:31.860 and the same year
00:21:34.360 he was first
00:21:34.980 in the class
00:21:35.600 in the Yale Law School
00:21:36.520 he led the NFL
00:21:38.640 in rushing
00:21:39.180 wow
00:21:40.800 like holy cow
00:21:42.580 who does that
00:21:43.440 and so
00:21:45.000 when I clerked
00:21:46.020 Byron White
00:21:46.500 was retired
00:21:47.080 he was like 80
00:21:47.860 and he used to play
00:21:50.120 play hoops
00:21:50.700 with the law clerks
00:21:51.460 and so
00:21:52.400 at the Supreme Court
00:21:53.780 there's a basketball court
00:21:54.920 and the basketball court
00:21:56.860 guess what it's named
00:21:57.640 by the way
00:21:58.040 it's at the top
00:21:59.140 and so the floor
00:22:01.140 of the court
00:22:01.860 is the ceiling
00:22:02.800 of the courtroom
00:22:03.480 so they don't let you
00:22:04.240 play during an argument
00:22:05.200 because you can literally
00:22:06.160 hear the dribbling
00:22:06.920 through the ceiling
00:22:07.540 and it's nicknamed
00:22:09.260 the Supreme Court
00:22:11.380 no no no no
00:22:12.560 that's what I was told
00:22:13.480 no no no
00:22:13.800 it's wrong
00:22:14.340 all right
00:22:14.700 I was told
00:22:15.780 I was told
00:22:16.320 it was the Supreme Court
00:22:17.200 all right what is it
00:22:17.900 it's nickname
00:22:18.540 is the highest court
00:22:19.540 in the land
00:22:19.900 oh well okay
00:22:20.560 there you go
00:22:21.020 but Byron White
00:22:23.840 used to play
00:22:24.660 and he was
00:22:25.440 look the guy
00:22:26.460 led the NFL
00:22:27.280 in rushing
00:22:27.900 he was a massive guy
00:22:29.620 and apparently
00:22:30.820 he'd play with
00:22:31.560 pencil neck law clerks
00:22:32.720 and he would foul
00:22:33.720 like crazy
00:22:34.560 and just throw them down
00:22:36.180 nothing he would do
00:22:37.840 would ever be a foul
00:22:38.680 and he would just
00:22:39.320 brutalize them
00:22:40.200 when I was clerking
00:22:41.960 he was like 80
00:22:42.720 so we couldn't get him
00:22:43.600 to play
00:22:43.960 but I just shook his hands
00:22:45.280 and like his fingers
00:22:47.220 were the diameter
00:22:48.700 of a quarter
00:22:49.340 I mean it was weird
00:22:50.940 so he didn't play anymore
00:22:53.900 and sadly
00:22:54.480 Justice Thomas
00:22:55.160 didn't play anymore
00:22:55.920 when I was there either
00:22:56.720 because Ginny
00:22:57.300 wouldn't let him
00:22:57.900 because he hurt
00:22:58.820 his knee playing
00:22:59.520 when you clerked
00:23:00.380 last question on this
00:23:01.300 and then we'll get back
00:23:01.980 to this vote this week
00:23:03.040 but I gotta ask
00:23:03.800 what was the coolest part
00:23:05.380 about clerking
00:23:05.880 in the Supreme Court
00:23:06.540 being part of
00:23:10.260 the decision making
00:23:11.180 so I clerked
00:23:12.300 for Chief Justice Rehnquist
00:23:13.440 he was an extraordinary man
00:23:15.880 he was someone
00:23:16.800 he was born
00:23:17.600 in Milwaukee
00:23:19.480 he was born
00:23:21.440 in a blue collar family
00:23:23.160 he enlisted
00:23:26.100 in the army
00:23:27.240 in World War II
00:23:27.980 so he was a sergeant
00:23:29.980 he was a weather observer
00:23:31.140 in North Africa
00:23:31.960 during World War II
00:23:32.820 it's one of the really
00:23:34.940 cool things
00:23:35.620 I've always loved
00:23:36.380 that the Chief Justice
00:23:37.180 of the United States
00:23:38.080 was not an officer
00:23:39.300 he was an enlisted man
00:23:41.220 and years later
00:23:43.020 when he was serving
00:23:43.640 on the court
00:23:44.100 Lewis Powell
00:23:44.780 who served with him
00:23:45.600 was a colonel
00:23:46.480 in World War II
00:23:47.180 and Powell used to say
00:23:49.840 you know
00:23:51.220 I outrank you
00:23:52.360 and the Chief Justice
00:23:54.220 would say
00:23:54.680 oh not anymore
00:23:55.980 but Rehnquist
00:24:00.100 was spectacularly brilliant
00:24:02.680 so he had a purely
00:24:06.860 photographic memory
00:24:08.040 at a level
00:24:08.620 I've never seen
00:24:09.560 anyone else
00:24:10.260 so here's an amazing story
00:24:12.360 so Rehnquist
00:24:13.640 graduated from
00:24:14.380 Stanford Law School
00:24:15.240 he was first
00:24:17.000 in his class
00:24:17.560 at Stanford
00:24:18.120 in the same class
00:24:20.560 was Sandra Day O'Connor
00:24:21.660 she was third
00:24:22.440 in her class
00:24:22.820 no way
00:24:23.460 at Stanford
00:24:24.120 I've always wondered
00:24:25.820 what happened
00:24:26.320 to the poor
00:24:26.740 schlub who was second
00:24:27.500 yeah
00:24:28.360 so Rehnquist
00:24:30.520 and O'Connor
00:24:31.400 dated
00:24:32.280 they dated
00:24:34.660 in law school
00:24:35.480 and they actually
00:24:37.560 he asked her
00:24:38.440 to marry him
00:24:39.140 and she said no
00:24:41.280 now as y'all know
00:24:43.820 Sandra Day O'Connor
00:24:44.840 came back to Arizona
00:24:46.460 was an Arizona legend
00:24:47.900 was the Senate
00:24:49.260 majority leader
00:24:50.140 here in the state
00:24:50.820 of Arizona
00:24:51.300 and they served together
00:24:53.480 and she and her husband
00:24:54.520 and he and his wife
00:24:56.520 were friends
00:24:57.560 for 50 years
00:24:58.340 they were very close friends
00:24:59.500 a great story
00:25:00.540 from Sandra Day O'Connor
00:25:01.500 so when she was
00:25:02.820 Sandra Day
00:25:03.420 and she was dating
00:25:04.100 John O'Connor
00:25:04.840 she describes
00:25:06.240 in her autobiography
00:25:07.240 how she brought
00:25:08.820 this young
00:25:09.660 Stanford law student
00:25:10.600 she was dating
00:25:11.260 back to meet her dad
00:25:12.240 on the ranch
00:25:12.840 and she said
00:25:14.300 that day
00:25:15.040 dad just happened
00:25:17.040 to be castrating calves
00:25:18.540 just happened to be
00:25:21.520 and she writes
00:25:22.000 in the book
00:25:22.500 I wonder if he was
00:25:23.460 trying to send a message
00:25:24.500 that's like
00:25:25.880 gun cleaning night
00:25:26.640 in the south
00:25:27.120 when you just have
00:25:28.000 to have a daughter
00:25:28.580 having a date
00:25:29.260 right
00:25:29.520 as the father
00:25:30.720 of two daughters
00:25:31.640 I find that exquisite
00:25:33.620 Patriot Mobile
00:25:37.320 for 10 years
00:25:38.300 has been America's
00:25:39.360 only Christian
00:25:40.440 conservative
00:25:40.960 wireless provider
00:25:42.000 and when I say only
00:25:43.100 trust me
00:25:43.820 they are literally
00:25:45.060 the only one
00:25:45.920 the team at Patriot Mobile
00:25:48.000 are incredible
00:25:48.860 because they are
00:25:49.680 an American based company
00:25:50.880 with an American based
00:25:52.060 call center
00:25:52.660 that helps
00:25:53.780 proud Americans
00:25:55.000 just like you
00:25:56.040 that are conservatives
00:25:56.880 and Christian
00:25:57.480 know that when they
00:25:58.240 pay their bill every month
00:25:59.200 you're actually making
00:26:00.660 a difference
00:26:01.400 and standing up
00:26:02.280 for what you believe in
00:26:03.220 so stop sending
00:26:04.940 your money
00:26:05.660 to woke companies
00:26:06.600 that are fighting
00:26:07.060 against your values
00:26:07.860 you may not realize
00:26:08.880 that the Big Mobile
00:26:09.780 they have been giving
00:26:11.340 millions to liberal
00:26:13.080 democrats
00:26:13.540 and to places
00:26:15.420 like Planned Parenthood
00:26:16.820 well Patriot Mobile
00:26:18.500 has decided to do
00:26:19.340 something else
00:26:20.000 and I love this
00:26:20.960 about them as a company
00:26:21.880 for every verdict listener
00:26:23.640 that switches
00:26:24.340 your cell phone provider
00:26:26.040 to Patriot Mobile
00:26:26.760 they are going to make
00:26:28.040 an initial donation
00:26:29.160 to a organization
00:26:31.020 that helps protect
00:26:33.100 the lives of
00:26:34.200 unborn children
00:26:35.280 it is pretty awesome
00:26:36.960 and then every month
00:26:37.980 when you pay your bill
00:26:38.920 they take a portion
00:26:40.160 of your bill
00:26:40.620 at no extra cost
00:26:41.340 to you
00:26:41.520 and they give it back
00:26:42.200 to hardcore
00:26:43.260 conservative Christian
00:26:44.600 organizations
00:26:45.220 they stand up
00:26:45.960 for freedom of speech
00:26:47.340 religious freedom
00:26:48.200 the sanctity of life
00:26:49.540 the second amendment
00:26:50.380 as well as our military
00:26:51.800 our veterans
00:26:52.380 and first responder heroes
00:26:53.760 so you're going to have
00:26:54.920 a bill every month
00:26:55.620 for a cell phone
00:26:56.360 why not put it
00:26:57.520 with a company
00:26:58.300 that fights
00:26:58.880 for what you believe in
00:26:59.920 100% US based
00:27:01.500 customer service team
00:27:02.560 is there to help
00:27:03.820 make switching easy
00:27:04.980 you can keep your
00:27:05.840 same cell phone number
00:27:06.660 you have now
00:27:07.280 keep your same phone

00:27:53.980 to your podcasts
00:27:54.720 so let's talk about
00:27:57.440 this week in DC
00:27:58.380 because it's important
00:27:59.480 what's going on
00:28:00.380 and explain what the plan
00:28:02.260 is for the Democrats
00:28:03.160 and what they're trying
00:28:04.060 to accomplish
00:28:04.540 so the Democrats
00:28:05.780 are intending to issue
00:28:07.080 subpoenas for three people
00:28:08.260 for Harlan Crowe
00:28:10.400 for Leonard Leo
00:28:12.060 and for Robin Arkley
00:28:14.180 the second
00:28:14.600 now all three of them
00:28:15.980 Harlan Crowe
00:28:17.240 is a very successful
00:28:18.120 businessman in Texas
00:28:19.360 Leonard Leo
00:28:20.400 is a very close friend
00:28:21.780 who has helped
00:28:23.700 lead the Federalist Society
00:28:25.000 for 30 years
00:28:25.860 I've known Leonard Leo
00:28:26.840 for 30 years
00:28:27.720 he's been actively involved
00:28:29.640 in fighting to confirm
00:28:30.860 conservative Supreme Court
00:28:32.520 justices for 30 years
00:28:33.920 the purpose of this subpoena
00:28:36.480 is there is a
00:28:37.960 concerted smear campaign
00:28:40.640 directed
00:28:41.260 at Justice Thomas
00:28:42.780 and so you've seen
00:28:43.680 the stories about
00:28:44.520 Justice Thomas
00:28:45.660 flew on a private plane
00:28:46.960 Justice Thomas
00:28:47.840 was the guest
00:28:49.620 at the vacation home
00:28:50.900 of a billionaire
00:28:51.940 and so he must be corrupt
00:28:53.500 now
00:28:54.640 I'm going to tell you
00:28:55.880 two things
00:28:56.600 about that
00:28:57.520 smear campaign
00:28:58.920 number one
00:29:00.540 it is utterly
00:29:02.700 and completely
00:29:03.900 hypocritical
00:29:04.800 in that
00:29:06.560 if you look at
00:29:08.100 the numbers
00:29:09.420 from 2004
00:29:11.640 to 2018
00:29:12.640 the justices
00:29:15.480 disclosed
00:29:16.120 how many trips
00:29:16.660 do you think they took
00:29:17.340 the nine justices?
00:29:18.180 I have no idea
00:29:19.680 1,306
00:29:21.720 that's a hell of a lot
00:29:22.860 of travel
00:29:23.260 that's nine people
00:29:24.200 they travel a lot
00:29:26.140 six of the Supreme Court's
00:29:28.400 nine members
00:29:28.980 received paid trips
00:29:29.980 to Europe
00:29:30.520 in 2014
00:29:31.480 including Berlin
00:29:33.000 London
00:29:33.520 Zurich
00:29:34.180 Justice Stephen Breyer
00:29:38.180 was repeatedly
00:29:40.380 flown around
00:29:41.240 by the billionaire
00:29:41.960 Pritzker family
00:29:42.860 from Chicago
00:29:43.540 by the way
00:29:44.160 one of whom
00:29:44.920 is the Democrat
00:29:45.500 Governor of Illinois
00:29:46.280 right now
00:29:47.000 Justice Sotomayor
00:29:49.560 likewise
00:29:50.120 flew all over
00:29:50.940 the place
00:29:51.280 Justice Ruth Bader
00:29:52.140 Ginsburg
00:29:52.540 flew all over
00:29:53.620 the place
00:29:54.080 Justice Breyer
00:29:55.480 took more
00:29:57.400 reimbursed trips
00:29:58.840 219
00:30:00.500 than any other
00:30:03.260 member
00:30:03.640 from 2004
00:30:04.640 to 2018
00:30:05.640 and the attack
00:30:08.140 that's directed
00:30:08.800 at Clarence Thomas
00:30:09.600 look
00:30:09.920 if you want to
00:30:11.360 argue Supreme Court
00:30:12.320 justices
00:30:12.920 shouldn't be able
00:30:13.600 to fly on trips
00:30:15.060 or on private planes
00:30:16.040 fine
00:30:16.580 if you want to
00:30:17.100 talk about rules
00:30:17.940 that apply to everyone
00:30:19.120 that's fine
00:30:19.600 that's a reasonable
00:30:20.320 conversation
00:30:21.020 what's not reasonable
00:30:22.940 is to say
00:30:23.720 we're going to attack
00:30:24.740 Clarence Thomas
00:30:25.440 for doing the same
00:30:26.280 thing the other
00:30:26.880 eight justices
00:30:27.500 are doing
00:30:28.040 and we're going to
00:30:28.760 hypocritically apply
00:30:29.720 rules to him
00:30:30.620 that don't apply
00:30:31.540 to anyone else
00:30:32.280 now let me tell you
00:30:32.920 something on top
00:30:33.600 of that
00:30:33.940 which is
00:30:35.900 this smear campaign
00:30:37.800 is funded by
00:30:41.160 and is driven by
00:30:42.420 in particular
00:30:43.100 ProPublica
00:30:44.180 that has been
00:30:45.600 the organization
00:30:46.520 that's putting out
00:30:47.440 all of these
00:30:48.440 attack pieces
00:30:49.120 now who is
00:30:49.700 ProPublica
00:30:50.320 funded by
00:30:51.000 I'm going to
00:30:52.200 quote from
00:30:53.080 the Daily Caller
00:30:53.860 quote
00:30:54.260 non-profit news
00:30:55.900 outlet
00:30:56.220 ProPublica
00:30:57.020 which published
00:30:57.600 multiple stories
00:30:58.520 detailing
00:30:59.060 Supreme Court
00:31:00.000 Justice Clarence
00:31:00.760 Thomas
00:31:01.040 alleged ethics
00:31:02.020 violations
00:31:02.640 has many
00:31:04.420 of the same
00:31:05.160 donors
00:31:05.600 as multiple
00:31:06.420 groups
00:31:06.940 actively
00:31:07.920 campaigning
00:31:08.680 for Thomas
00:31:09.480 to be
00:31:10.520 investigated
00:31:11.140 or resign
00:31:11.960 the Sandler
00:31:13.020 Foundation
00:31:13.460 which launched
00:31:14.340 ProPublica
00:31:15.060 in 2007
00:31:15.980 and is the
00:31:17.080 news outlet's
00:31:18.080 largest donor
00:31:18.920 has given it
00:31:20.340 almost 40
00:31:21.440 million dollars
00:31:22.660 since 2010
00:31:24.360 for general
00:31:24.940 support
00:31:25.360 the Sandler
00:31:26.320 Foundation
00:31:26.860 has also given
00:31:27.620 over 7.5
00:31:28.900 million dollars
00:31:29.660 to the campaign
00:31:30.940 legal center
00:31:31.640 since 2015
00:31:32.480 and over 6
00:31:33.960 million dollars
00:31:34.700 to the American
00:31:35.280 Constitutional
00:31:36.200 Society
00:31:36.760 for general
00:31:37.760 support
00:31:38.160 since 2010
00:31:39.140 those are all
00:31:40.600 rabid left-wing
00:31:41.940 organizations
00:31:42.540 so understand
00:31:43.200 this smear
00:31:43.780 campaign
00:31:44.280 is driven
00:31:46.040 by left-wing
00:31:46.780 billionaires
00:31:47.420 and it is
00:31:48.920 funded to
00:31:49.660 delegitimize
00:31:50.600 the Supreme
00:31:51.140 Court
00:31:51.420 and in
00:31:51.700 particular
00:31:52.280 the left
00:31:53.440 hates
00:31:54.080 Clarence
00:31:54.560 Thomas
00:31:54.860 and they
00:31:56.140 hate him
00:31:56.800 with an
00:31:58.300 intensity
00:31:58.900 that is
00:32:00.480 different
00:32:00.800 from any
00:32:01.180 other
00:32:01.400 conservative
00:32:01.820 justice
00:32:02.220 look
00:32:02.460 I knew
00:32:02.820 Antonin
00:32:03.200 Scalia
00:32:03.460 very well
00:32:04.100 he was
00:32:04.980 brilliant
00:32:05.380 he was
00:32:05.740 an
00:32:05.860 extraordinary
00:32:06.320 justice
00:32:06.980 he was
00:32:08.100 every bit
00:32:08.520 as
00:32:08.680 conservative
00:32:09.120 as Clarence
00:32:09.740 Thomas
00:32:10.020 and yet
00:32:10.680 the left
00:32:11.180 did not
00:32:11.780 heap
00:32:12.600 contempt
00:32:13.320 on Antonin
00:32:14.940 Scalia
00:32:15.260 the way
00:32:15.680 they do
00:32:16.040 justice
00:32:16.480 Thomas
00:32:16.820 the left's
00:32:17.880 view
00:32:18.280 is for a
00:32:19.760 black man
00:32:20.540 to dare
00:32:21.420 to be
00:32:21.820 conservative
00:32:22.380 is an
00:32:24.320 unacceptable
00:32:25.040 crime
00:32:25.580 is something
00:32:26.160 that has
00:32:26.940 to be
00:32:27.240 punished
00:32:27.580 the left
00:32:28.200 refers to
00:32:29.380 they do
00:32:29.740 magazine
00:32:30.420 covers
00:32:31.080 with pictures
00:32:32.760 of Clarence
00:32:33.460 Thomas
00:32:33.800 as an
00:32:34.560 Uncle Tom
00:32:35.580 sitting at
00:32:36.840 the feet
00:32:37.200 of Antonin
00:32:37.640 Scalia
00:32:38.100 it is
00:32:38.780 bigoted
00:32:39.300 it's
00:32:39.860 racist
00:32:40.500 it's
00:32:41.020 a lie
00:32:41.660 it's
00:32:42.180 immoral
00:32:42.780 and this
00:32:43.280 viciousness
00:32:43.940 directed at
00:32:44.520 Clarence
00:32:44.840 Thomas
00:32:45.140 these subpoenas
00:32:46.220 we're going to
00:32:46.680 vote on
00:32:47.100 this week
00:32:47.780 in the
00:32:48.280 judiciary
00:32:48.680 committee
00:32:49.100 the democrats
00:32:49.740 are going to
00:32:50.420 have the votes
00:32:50.940 to issue
00:32:51.320 them from
00:32:51.640 judiciary
00:32:52.260 but the
00:32:53.420 good news
00:32:53.940 is they
00:32:54.260 don't have
00:32:54.600 legal force
00:32:55.260 unless they
00:32:55.720 get 60
00:32:56.820 votes on the
00:32:57.440 floor of the
00:32:57.940 senate
00:32:58.180 and the
00:32:58.820 chances of
00:32:59.280 that happening
00:32:59.880 are zero
00:33:00.640 thank goodness
00:33:01.740 for that
00:33:02.240 before we
00:33:04.780 get into
00:33:05.220 Q&A
00:33:05.880 I want to
00:33:06.760 ask you
00:33:07.220 one other
00:33:07.620 thing
00:33:07.960 and it's
00:33:08.440 it's the
00:33:08.920 issue
00:33:09.340 and I
00:33:09.740 have a
00:33:10.080 feeling
00:33:10.360 a lot
00:33:10.660 of people
00:33:10.900 are going
00:33:11.100 to like
00:33:11.380 this idea
00:33:12.000 here
00:33:12.400 school choice
00:33:13.900 I am a
00:33:15.980 huge proponent
00:33:16.800 of school
00:33:17.220 choice
00:33:17.580 it's been
00:33:18.000 something that
00:33:18.480 you have
00:33:19.080 been a
00:33:20.040 champion of
00:33:20.800 for years
00:33:21.800 but it's
00:33:23.020 also become
00:33:23.840 in many
00:33:24.260 circles
00:33:24.680 they say
00:33:25.080 a third
00:33:25.400 rail
00:33:25.640 don't touch
00:33:26.200 it
00:33:26.300 don't talk
00:33:26.760 about it
00:33:27.060 don't deal
00:33:27.460 with it
00:33:27.720 in politics
00:33:28.340 do you
00:33:29.780 believe in
00:33:30.360 this next
00:33:30.900 election
00:33:31.340 Scott
00:33:31.700 cycle
00:33:32.180 that
00:33:32.440 conservatives
00:33:33.280 can win
00:33:34.140 on the
00:33:34.660 issue
00:33:34.960 of school
00:33:35.300 choice
00:33:35.760 and how
00:33:37.040 would they
00:33:37.460 best do
00:33:37.900 that
00:33:38.060 nationwide
00:33:38.520 look I
00:33:39.140 think
00:33:39.340 absolutely
00:33:40.000 yes
00:33:40.480 I am
00:33:41.200 there is
00:33:42.580 no domestic
00:33:43.340 issue I
00:33:43.920 care about
00:33:44.420 more than
00:33:44.820 school choice
00:33:45.460 I think
00:33:46.420 school choice
00:33:47.300 is the
00:33:48.380 civil rights
00:33:49.240 issue
00:33:49.660 of the
00:33:50.340 21st
00:33:50.900 century
00:33:51.260 and listen
00:33:54.300 it is worth
00:33:54.980 noting that
00:33:55.600 school choice
00:33:56.600 has been
00:33:56.980 around
00:33:57.420 from the
00:33:57.800 dawn of
00:33:58.140 time
00:33:58.420 the rich
00:34:00.100 and the
00:34:00.360 middle class
00:34:00.920 have always
00:34:01.360 had school
00:34:01.780 choice
00:34:02.200 if you
00:34:04.340 were
00:34:04.740 a student
00:34:06.700 at the
00:34:07.420 Bethesda
00:34:07.960 public schools
00:34:08.640 in Maryland
00:34:09.080 Bethesda
00:34:09.560 is this
00:34:09.840 very wealthy
00:34:10.480 suburb of
00:34:11.060 Washington
00:34:11.380 D.C.
00:34:13.580 if that
00:34:14.500 school had
00:34:15.100 a 50%
00:34:15.720 dropout rate
00:34:16.500 if among
00:34:18.700 the students
00:34:19.360 that remained
00:34:20.060 there
00:34:20.480 fewer than
00:34:22.200 half of them
00:34:22.840 graduated
00:34:23.480 reading at
00:34:23.960 grade level
00:34:24.460 if drug dealers
00:34:26.620 were walking
00:34:27.200 in the hallways
00:34:28.020 if little
00:34:28.520 girls were
00:34:29.060 getting sexually
00:34:29.880 assaulted
00:34:30.440 in the
00:34:31.180 bathrooms
00:34:31.700 the
00:34:33.560 Bethesda
00:34:34.360 public schools
00:34:34.980 would be
00:34:35.260 empty
00:34:35.600 immediately
00:34:36.680 because the
00:34:38.320 parents there
00:34:38.720 are rich
00:34:39.080 so they would
00:34:40.380 do one of two
00:34:41.020 things
00:34:41.340 they would
00:34:41.620 either write
00:34:42.100 checks
00:34:42.560 and pay
00:34:43.840 tuition at a
00:34:44.520 private school
00:34:45.080 or they would
00:34:46.740 move to another
00:34:47.640 neighborhood that
00:34:48.280 had a better
00:34:48.720 public school
00:34:49.400 and they would
00:34:50.580 exercise choice
00:34:51.600 through choosing
00:34:52.180 where to live
00:34:52.700 that's what
00:34:54.280 the rich
00:34:54.620 have always
00:34:55.000 been able
00:34:55.340 to do
00:34:55.640 that's what
00:34:56.140 the upper
00:34:56.520 middle class
00:34:57.160 have always
00:34:57.920 been able
00:34:58.240 to do
00:34:58.600 it is
00:35:00.660 low income
00:35:02.000 Americans
00:35:02.620 it is single
00:35:03.620 moms in
00:35:04.220 inner cities
00:35:04.800 who are trapped
00:35:06.680 with failing
00:35:07.320 schools
00:35:07.760 and those
00:35:08.120 numbers I've
00:35:08.680 described
00:35:09.000 are true
00:35:10.120 in school
00:35:10.780 after school
00:35:11.400 after school
00:35:11.980 in this country
00:35:12.640 and it
00:35:13.260 predominantly
00:35:14.140 hurts low
00:35:14.900 income kids
00:35:15.620 it hurts
00:35:16.260 African American
00:35:17.040 kids
00:35:17.480 it hurts
00:35:18.080 Hispanic
00:35:18.600 kids
00:35:19.120 and the
00:35:20.220 Democrat
00:35:20.660 party
00:35:21.300 is
00:35:22.360 bought
00:35:22.820 and paid
00:35:23.400 for
00:35:23.660 by the
00:35:23.980 teachers
00:35:24.260 unions
00:35:24.720 if you
00:35:29.120 look at
00:35:29.480 African
00:35:29.820 American
00:35:30.200 communities
00:35:30.740 or Hispanic
00:35:31.300 communities
00:35:31.800 systematically
00:35:32.700 60-70
00:35:33.720 as much
00:35:34.160 as 80%
00:35:35.280 of African
00:35:36.580 American
00:35:37.000 parents
00:35:37.920 as much
00:35:38.360 as 60-70
00:35:39.740 80%
00:35:40.420 of Hispanic
00:35:41.020 parents
00:35:41.520 support
00:35:42.300 school choice
00:35:43.120 I believe
00:35:44.300 every child
00:35:45.520 in America
00:35:46.240 deserves
00:35:48.940 a right
00:35:49.720 to have
00:35:50.080 access
00:35:50.460 to an
00:35:50.920 excellent
00:35:51.260 education
00:35:51.920 regardless
00:35:52.800 of their
00:35:53.240 race
00:35:53.600 of their
00:35:54.120 ethnicity
00:35:54.620 of their
00:35:55.440 wealth
00:35:55.860 of their
00:35:56.420 zip code
00:35:56.940 so how do we
00:36:02.800 win
00:36:02.960 I gotta say
00:36:03.440 we are sitting
00:36:04.840 in actually
00:36:05.780 extraordinary
00:36:06.340 place
00:36:06.840 because I
00:36:07.200 want to say
00:36:07.660 to the men
00:36:08.060 and women
00:36:08.320 here
00:36:08.660 thank you
00:36:10.320 for your
00:36:10.840 leadership
00:36:11.320 Arizona
00:36:12.100 has led
00:36:14.240 the nation
00:36:15.040 in providing
00:36:16.840 choice to your
00:36:17.680 students
00:36:18.020 it has been
00:36:18.540 extraordinary
00:36:19.140 it has been
00:36:20.200 inspirational
00:36:20.940 it has been
00:36:22.060 powerful
00:36:22.860 and the
00:36:24.940 Goldwater
00:36:25.420 Institute
00:36:25.760 has been
00:36:26.260 pivotal
00:36:26.760 in making
00:36:27.300 that happen
00:36:27.980 and if you
00:36:28.660 look nationally
00:36:29.360 the two
00:36:29.820 states at the
00:36:30.500 front
00:36:30.860 of this
00:36:32.080 fight
00:36:32.380 have been
00:36:32.680 Arizona
00:36:33.120 and Florida
00:36:33.680 and I will
00:36:35.240 say something
00:36:35.840 you and I
00:36:36.320 are both
00:36:36.680 Texans
00:36:37.180 and look
00:36:37.600 Texans
00:36:38.160 we are known
00:36:39.460 for being
00:36:40.000 quiet
00:36:40.520 and for our
00:36:41.060 humility
00:36:41.540 look
00:36:44.140 as Texans
00:36:44.820 I hate
00:36:45.720 that there
00:36:47.020 is anything
00:36:47.960 Texans
00:36:49.040 are not
00:36:49.420 leaning on
00:36:50.020 but when
00:36:51.980 it comes
00:36:52.400 to school
00:36:52.840 choice
00:36:53.280 Texans
00:36:53.800 have been
00:36:54.120 lagging
00:36:54.460 behind
00:36:54.860 and I
00:36:56.160 can tell
00:36:56.560 you
00:36:56.700 there is
00:36:57.000 a major
00:36:57.480 battle
00:36:57.900 playing out
00:36:58.500 in the
00:36:58.660 Texas
00:36:58.940 legislature
00:36:59.580 right now
00:37:00.340 we have
00:37:01.560 the single
00:37:02.220 best moment
00:37:02.900 we have
00:37:03.280 ever had
00:37:03.700 in our
00:37:03.940 lifetimes
00:37:04.580 to pass
00:37:05.660 real and
00:37:06.320 meaningful
00:37:06.660 school
00:37:07.000 choice
00:37:07.400 in Texas
00:37:07.940 the governor
00:37:08.880 Greg Abbott
00:37:09.500 has said
00:37:09.800 he is going
00:37:10.040 to keep
00:37:10.440 calling
00:37:11.080 special
00:37:11.560 sessions
00:37:12.060 until
00:37:12.720 they
00:37:12.960 pass
00:37:13.340 it
00:37:13.460 and I'll
00:37:13.680 tell you
00:37:13.960 something
00:37:14.320 that I
00:37:15.660 do in
00:37:16.040 Texas
00:37:16.360 that is
00:37:16.740 unusual
00:37:17.220 Ben
00:37:17.520 so
00:37:19.060 virtually
00:37:20.660 every
00:37:21.140 U.S.
00:37:21.640 senator
00:37:21.920 stays
00:37:23.660 out of
00:37:24.320 state
00:37:24.680 primaries
00:37:25.480 in their
00:37:26.280 own
00:37:26.440 state
00:37:26.720 and the
00:37:28.540 reason
00:37:28.880 is
00:37:29.240 getting
00:37:29.540 involved
00:37:29.980 in a
00:37:30.220 primary
00:37:30.560 in your
00:37:30.940 own
00:37:31.120 state
00:37:31.340 is just
00:37:31.660 stupid
00:37:31.960 it hurts
00:37:32.380 you
00:37:32.640 that if
00:37:33.660 you make
00:37:34.060 an endorsement
00:37:34.820 in your
00:37:35.080 own
00:37:35.280 primary
00:37:35.760 in a
00:37:36.080 primary
00:37:36.380 in your
00:37:36.660 state
00:37:37.000 the rule
00:37:38.420 of thumb
00:37:38.840 is you
00:37:39.220 get half
00:37:39.820 of their
00:37:40.100 friends
00:37:40.600 and you
00:37:41.640 get all
00:37:41.960 of their
00:37:42.200 enemies
00:37:42.500 I don't
00:37:46.360 do that
00:37:46.720 I regularly
00:37:48.540 endorse in
00:37:49.320 primaries
00:37:49.700 to the best
00:37:50.280 of my
00:37:50.640 knowledge
00:37:50.960 I don't
00:37:51.440 know another
00:37:51.920 U.S.
00:37:52.340 senator that
00:37:52.820 does
00:37:53.140 to the best
00:37:53.800 of my
00:37:54.060 knowledge
00:37:54.360 99 of my
00:37:55.180 colleagues
00:37:55.540 do not
00:37:56.020 and I
00:37:56.680 endorse in
00:37:57.500 lots of
00:37:58.260 primaries
00:37:58.680 in Texas
00:37:59.120 and here's
00:37:59.580 how
00:37:59.840 I have
00:38:00.880 my staff
00:38:01.580 prepare an
00:38:02.360 excel
00:38:02.620 spreadsheet
00:38:03.140 of every
00:38:05.100 vote
00:38:05.640 that a
00:38:06.940 state
00:38:07.180 legislator
00:38:07.880 has cast
00:38:08.460 on school
00:38:08.900 choice
00:38:09.320 and my
00:38:11.400 rule is
00:38:12.020 if you
00:38:12.320 voted in
00:38:12.820 favor of
00:38:13.260 school
00:38:13.460 choice
00:38:13.920 and you're
00:38:15.200 otherwise
00:38:15.660 relatively
00:38:16.780 conservative
00:38:17.420 you're quite
00:38:18.980 likely to get
00:38:19.580 my support
00:38:20.140 if you
00:38:21.940 voted against
00:38:22.860 choice
00:38:23.420 the chances
00:38:24.800 of getting
00:38:25.220 my support
00:38:25.840 are essentially
00:38:26.480 zero
00:38:27.020 and it is
00:38:29.040 very likely
00:38:29.880 that I will
00:38:30.440 endorse your
00:38:31.320 primary opponent
00:38:32.240 and when I do
00:38:34.100 that I don't
00:38:34.620 do it gently
00:38:35.320 I come in
00:38:36.240 and I cut
00:38:36.900 radio and TV
00:38:37.820 ads and I
00:38:38.480 come in
00:38:39.040 and I beat
00:38:40.220 your ass
00:38:40.280 You're accused
00:38:40.500 of a lot of
00:38:40.960 things
00:38:41.380 you going
00:38:42.300 gently in a
00:38:42.980 political time
00:38:43.860 is not one
00:38:44.540 of them sir
00:38:44.960 Look the stakes
00:38:45.580 are too high
00:38:46.780 and so we
00:38:47.800 had last
00:38:48.640 election cycle
00:38:50.280 seven runoffs
00:38:51.200 with the
00:38:51.920 teachers unions
00:38:52.560 on one side
00:38:53.340 and me on
00:38:53.800 the other
00:38:54.160 and we beat
00:38:55.120 them in a
00:38:55.520 majority of
00:38:56.040 those races
00:38:56.580 and the reason
00:39:00.700 I do that
00:39:01.500 and listen
00:39:01.940 it hurts me
00:39:02.700 politically to
00:39:03.340 do that
00:39:03.600 I am losing
00:39:04.460 votes
00:39:05.040 when I do
00:39:05.940 that
00:39:06.240 but the reason
00:39:07.720 I'm doing
00:39:08.280 that is that
00:39:08.980 I want for
00:39:09.740 the state
00:39:10.240 legislators
00:39:10.960 when they're
00:39:11.380 thinking about
00:39:12.040 what do I
00:39:12.460 do on this
00:39:13.200 for it to be
00:39:14.860 a carrot and
00:39:15.540 stick
00:39:15.900 that if there
00:39:16.660 is a
00:39:18.600 Republican
00:39:19.520 House member
00:39:20.500 that's on
00:39:21.000 the fence
00:39:21.540 do I support
00:39:22.360 it
00:39:22.520 do I not
00:39:23.280 I want
00:39:24.820 them to
00:39:25.100 say you
00:39:25.460 know
00:39:25.700 I really
00:39:27.360 don't want
00:39:27.880 Cruz to
00:39:28.380 screw around
00:39:28.860 in my
00:39:29.080 primary
00:39:29.500 so maybe
00:39:31.060 I'll just
00:39:31.480 do the
00:39:31.840 right thing
00:39:32.380 and I'll
00:39:33.920 tell you
00:39:34.340 something
00:39:34.720 and it's
00:39:35.080 something
00:39:35.340 why I'm
00:39:35.820 so inspired
00:39:36.660 by the
00:39:37.020 men and
00:39:37.240 women in
00:39:37.540 this room
00:39:38.000 when I
00:39:39.020 was first
00:39:39.500 elected to
00:39:40.020 the Senate
00:39:40.360 in 2012
00:39:40.960 here's what
00:39:41.420 I told
00:39:41.760 Heidi
00:39:42.040 I said
00:39:43.880 sweetheart
00:39:44.340 if when
00:39:44.880 I die
00:39:45.580 if my
00:39:47.600 tombstone
00:39:48.440 says
00:39:49.040 Ted
00:39:49.980 played a
00:39:50.520 meaningful
00:39:50.940 role
00:39:51.460 in bringing
00:39:51.980 about
00:39:52.360 school
00:39:52.740 choice
00:39:53.260 to every
00:39:54.040 child in
00:39:54.640 Texas
00:39:54.920 and every
00:39:55.320 child in
00:39:55.820 America
00:39:56.180 I will
00:39:57.400 die a
00:39:58.080 very very
00:39:58.860 happy man
00:39:59.620 amen to that
00:40:00.680 so we really
00:40:01.640 get to do
00:40:02.020 this so I
00:40:02.380 want to say
00:40:02.920 thank you
00:40:04.060 our show
00:40:05.460 we have
00:40:05.800 amazing
00:40:06.360 amazing
00:40:06.980 sponsors
00:40:07.520 that allow
00:40:08.000 us to do
00:40:08.280 this
00:40:08.520 Patriot Mobile
00:40:09.620 is here
00:40:10.040 tonight I
00:40:10.560 want to say
00:40:10.920 a big shout
00:40:11.420 out to those
00:40:11.920 guys for being
00:40:12.700 here if
00:40:13.760 you haven't
00:40:14.240 checked them
00:40:14.640 out they're
00:40:15.020 phenomenal they
00:40:15.800 do great
00:40:16.420 work and
00:40:17.880 really give
00:40:18.840 people an
00:40:19.320 alternative so
00:40:19.880 thank you guys
00:40:20.540 for being here
00:40:21.100 as well tonight
00:40:21.540 I saw that I
00:40:22.100 heard an amen
00:40:22.620 out there I
00:40:23.140 knew I was
00:40:23.420 like I know
00:40:24.160 that voice so
00:40:24.920 that's I got
00:40:25.480 it right right
00:40:26.040 you're out
00:40:26.420 there yeah
00:40:27.040 see there he
00:40:27.820 is all right
00:40:28.260 there we go
00:40:28.900 all right so
00:40:29.620 let's go to the
00:40:30.220 Q&A real quick
00:40:31.140 we'll get if
00:40:31.680 you'll say your
00:40:32.200 name at the
00:40:32.720 beginning and
00:40:34.080 where you live
00:40:34.980 and then we'll
00:40:35.560 go there go
00:40:36.040 ahead
00:40:36.280 hi Senator
00:40:38.400 I'm Mark
00:40:39.780 Volker from
00:40:40.720 Las Vegas
00:40:41.680 a few weeks
00:40:44.460 ago Jay
00:40:45.180 Powell
00:40:45.720 chairman of
00:40:46.420 the Fed
00:40:46.940 was asked
00:40:48.740 if the
00:40:49.300 Federal Reserve
00:40:50.040 was going to
00:40:51.100 issue a
00:40:52.000 central bank
00:40:52.940 digital currency
00:40:54.060 and his
00:40:55.340 response was
00:40:56.520 that would
00:40:57.540 have to be
00:40:58.220 authorized by
00:40:59.300 Congress
00:40:59.920 so my
00:41:01.160 question is
00:41:02.360 when
00:41:03.620 legislation is
00:41:04.860 introduced
00:41:05.420 to authorize
00:41:07.240 a central bank
00:41:08.260 digital currency
00:41:09.280 what will be
00:41:10.940 the response
00:41:12.020 in Congress
00:41:13.340 thank you
00:41:14.260 so Mark
00:41:15.380 thank you for
00:41:15.900 that question
00:41:16.560 for anyone
00:41:17.020 who didn't
00:41:17.500 hear he
00:41:18.000 asked about
00:41:18.780 the Federal
00:41:19.700 Reserve
00:41:20.180 potentially issuing
00:41:21.380 a central bank
00:41:22.120 digital currency
00:41:22.980 and how Congress
00:41:23.820 would respond
00:41:24.720 if legislation
00:41:25.960 was issued
00:41:27.140 I'll tell you
00:41:27.920 I am
00:41:29.160 passionately
00:41:30.240 opposed
00:41:30.900 to any
00:41:31.900 central bank
00:41:32.680 digital currency
00:41:33.440 and in fact
00:41:37.820 Mark
00:41:38.200 I have
00:41:38.680 introduced
00:41:39.080 legislation
00:41:40.020 to prohibit
00:41:40.840 the Fed
00:41:41.340 from ever
00:41:42.420 issuing a
00:41:43.260 central bank
00:41:43.860 digital currency
00:41:44.700 when it
00:41:47.660 comes to
00:41:48.460 Bitcoin
00:41:48.860 when it
00:41:49.380 comes to
00:41:49.920 cryptocurrency
00:41:50.420 generally
00:41:51.320 I am
00:41:51.920 very
00:41:52.400 bullish
00:41:52.820 on Bitcoin
00:41:53.620 I'm
00:41:56.280 personally
00:41:56.760 an investor
00:41:57.420 in Bitcoin
00:41:57.960 I have a
00:41:58.620 standing buy
00:41:59.320 order
00:41:59.580 I buy
00:42:00.140 Bitcoin
00:42:00.580 every Monday
00:42:01.600 on an
00:42:02.040 automatic
00:42:02.540 buy order
00:42:03.180 that's
00:42:04.500 just
00:42:04.820 my meager
00:42:06.060 resources
00:42:06.660 that's
00:42:07.100 part of
00:42:08.360 our
00:42:08.520 investment
00:42:09.020 I think
00:42:10.640 Bitcoin
00:42:11.040 is an
00:42:11.580 extraordinary
00:42:12.300 number one
00:42:13.220 hedge
00:42:13.500 against
00:42:13.840 inflation
00:42:14.440 but number
00:42:15.940 two
00:42:16.620 look
00:42:17.680 I love
00:42:18.480 Bitcoin
00:42:19.040 for the
00:42:19.480 same
00:42:19.960 reason
00:42:20.680 that
00:42:21.380 collectivists
00:42:22.100 and statists
00:42:22.840 hate it
00:42:23.560 which is
00:42:24.840 that it
00:42:25.220 cannot be
00:42:25.960 controlled
00:42:26.600 communist
00:42:27.740 China
00:42:28.260 has banned
00:42:29.120 Bitcoin
00:42:29.700 China
00:42:31.500 hates
00:42:31.920 Bitcoin
00:42:32.460 for the
00:42:33.660 same
00:42:33.980 reason
00:42:34.380 Elizabeth
00:42:34.820 Warren
00:42:35.240 hates
00:42:35.560 Bitcoin
00:42:36.060 because
00:42:37.180 they
00:42:37.540 cannot
00:42:37.960 control
00:42:38.580 it
00:42:38.720 the
00:42:38.900 left
00:42:39.260 wants
00:42:39.880 to
00:42:40.040 control
00:42:40.400 your
00:42:40.620 finances
00:42:41.160 and
00:42:41.420 they
00:42:41.540 want
00:42:41.760 to
00:42:41.980 monitor
00:42:42.520 every
00:42:43.440 monetary
00:42:44.000 exchange
00:42:44.600 you
00:42:44.920 have
00:42:45.500 including
00:42:46.460 the
00:42:46.780 original
00:42:47.200 version
00:42:47.620 of the
00:42:47.940 so-called
00:42:48.360 Build Back
00:42:48.860 Better
00:42:49.140 bill
00:42:49.460 which I
00:42:50.200 called
00:42:50.460 Build Back
00:42:50.920 Broke
00:42:51.380 required your
00:42:53.680 bank to
00:42:54.240 report to
00:42:54.860 the federal
00:42:55.240 government
00:42:55.680 every single
00:42:56.540 transaction
00:42:57.160 you made
00:42:57.860 in excess
00:42:58.620 of $400
00:42:59.240 that meant
00:43:01.000 that meant
00:43:01.020 every
00:43:01.200 mortgage
00:43:01.540 payment
00:43:01.980 that meant
00:43:02.300 every
00:43:02.460 car
00:43:02.800 payment
00:43:03.240 with
00:43:04.160 inflation
00:43:04.700 that damn
00:43:05.260 near meant
00:43:05.620 every time
00:43:06.060 you filled
00:43:06.440 up your
00:43:06.740 gas tank
00:43:07.420 I think
00:43:09.960 it is insane
00:43:10.720 the federal
00:43:11.160 government
00:43:11.520 has no
00:43:11.980 business
00:43:12.620 monitoring
00:43:13.340 the financial
00:43:14.520 transactions
00:43:15.400 of a free
00:43:16.060 people
00:43:16.480 I will tell
00:43:21.460 you also
00:43:22.040 I'm a big
00:43:22.760 proponent
00:43:23.360 Texas is
00:43:24.360 becoming an
00:43:25.000 oasis for
00:43:25.760 Bitcoin
00:43:26.260 and cryptocurrency
00:43:26.980 mining
00:43:28.080 that people
00:43:28.720 are coming
00:43:29.200 to Texas
00:43:29.780 to be free
00:43:30.920 it is a
00:43:31.380 benefit to
00:43:32.000 have low
00:43:33.020 cost
00:43:33.460 abundant
00:43:33.920 energy
00:43:34.400 and if that's
00:43:34.900 one thing
00:43:35.260 Texas has
00:43:35.980 we have a
00:43:36.860 lot of it
00:43:37.380 I will say
00:43:38.240 I'm glad
00:43:39.120 Jay Powell
00:43:39.740 says that
00:43:40.380 I have asked
00:43:41.080 him in my
00:43:41.720 office
00:43:42.200 about a
00:43:43.420 central bank
00:43:43.980 digital currency
00:43:44.920 what he said
00:43:46.620 in my office
00:43:47.280 sounded pretty
00:43:47.980 good
00:43:48.340 now it worries
00:43:49.040 me sometimes
00:43:49.880 that when
00:43:50.620 Jay Powell
00:43:51.160 is talking
00:43:51.660 to Democrats
00:43:52.340 what he says
00:43:53.060 doesn't sound
00:43:54.060 pretty good
00:43:54.620 and so I
00:43:55.980 remain worried
00:43:56.820 the Fed
00:43:57.240 will try
00:43:57.620 to do
00:43:57.900 this on
00:43:58.260 their own
00:43:58.640 but I
00:43:59.820 can tell
00:44:00.260 you
00:44:00.520 if they
00:44:01.600 do
00:44:01.920 I will
00:44:02.360 lead the
00:44:02.760 fight
00:44:02.960 against
00:44:03.340 it
00:44:03.620 and I
00:44:04.100 don't
00:44:04.240 think
00:44:04.420 the
00:44:04.580 federal
00:44:04.800 government
00:44:05.200 should
00:44:05.480 ever
00:44:05.780 get in
00:44:06.080 that
00:44:06.200 business
00:44:06.640 go ahead
00:44:08.560 next up
00:44:09.160 tell us
00:44:10.780 your name
00:44:11.240 hi
00:44:11.880 I'm
00:44:12.160 Jenny
00:44:12.420 Simpson
00:44:12.880 from
00:44:13.280 Paradise
00:44:13.680 Valley
00:44:14.060 Arizona
00:44:14.560 my
00:44:16.000 question
00:44:16.580 is
00:44:17.100 Senator
00:44:17.580 when
00:44:18.600 are
00:44:18.740 you
00:44:18.880 going
00:44:19.060 to
00:44:19.220 convince
00:44:19.880 the
00:44:20.200 rest
00:44:20.580 of
00:44:20.760 the
00:44:20.960 Senate
00:44:21.320 that
00:44:22.280 without
00:44:22.760 border
00:44:23.320 security
00:44:24.080 we
00:44:24.840 don't
00:44:25.160 have
00:44:25.480 any
00:44:25.880 U.S.
00:44:26.600 security
00:44:27.240 amen
00:44:29.240 Jenny
00:44:30.100 amen
00:44:30.780 amen
00:44:31.480 amen
00:44:31.960 thank you
00:44:32.620 for that
00:44:32.980 question
00:44:33.420 I tell you
00:44:33.920 we
00:44:34.080 we talked
00:44:35.080 about
00:44:35.360 were we
00:44:35.640 going to
00:44:35.900 talk about
00:44:36.420 securing
00:44:36.800 the border
00:44:37.220 or not
00:44:37.700 and I
00:44:38.000 told him
00:44:38.400 Ben
00:44:38.660 we're in
00:44:39.380 Arizona
00:44:39.880 the chances
00:44:40.500 that we
00:44:40.840 go through
00:44:41.240 Q&A
00:44:41.860 without talking
00:44:42.860 about border
00:44:43.440 security
00:44:43.920 are zero
00:44:44.520 look it is
00:44:46.160 an absolute
00:44:46.940 manifest
00:44:47.560 disaster
00:44:48.540 y'all know
00:44:49.220 that you
00:44:49.660 deal with it
00:44:50.300 every day
00:44:50.900 in Texas
00:44:51.780 we know
00:44:52.360 that we
00:44:52.800 deal with
00:44:53.260 it every
00:44:53.560 day
00:44:53.880 I was
00:44:54.740 down at
00:44:55.120 our
00:44:55.300 southern
00:44:55.560 border
00:44:55.880 last
00:44:56.300 week
00:44:56.620 I
00:44:57.560 went
00:44:57.820 there
00:44:58.040 Thursday
00:44:58.460 night
00:44:58.800 of
00:44:58.940 last
00:44:59.260 week
00:44:59.540 I
00:44:59.740 went
00:45:00.040 to
00:45:00.700 the
00:45:00.860 midnight
00:45:01.240 muster
00:45:01.720 with the
00:45:02.020 border
00:45:02.220 patrol
00:45:02.580 agents
00:45:03.000 where I
00:45:03.340 said to
00:45:03.740 all of
00:45:04.100 the
00:45:04.240 agents
00:45:04.640 thank you
00:45:05.640 thank you
00:45:06.180 thank you
00:45:06.700 for your
00:45:07.060 heroism
00:45:07.720 for defending
00:45:08.680 this
00:45:09.020 nation
00:45:09.460 even when
00:45:10.200 you have
00:45:10.760 political
00:45:12.140 nincompoops
00:45:13.340 who are
00:45:14.540 undermining you
00:45:15.620 every single
00:45:16.340 day
00:45:16.680 I then went
00:45:17.940 out on
00:45:18.360 midnight
00:45:18.620 patrol
00:45:19.040 with the
00:45:19.400 border
00:45:19.560 patrol
00:45:19.880 which I've
00:45:20.340 done
00:45:20.520 many many
00:45:20.940 times
00:45:21.420 every time
00:45:23.080 you go out
00:45:23.540 on midnight
00:45:23.980 patrol
00:45:24.400 within minutes
00:45:25.240 you encounter
00:45:26.940 groups of
00:45:27.500 illegal aliens
00:45:28.300 Corrine
00:45:29.680 Jean-Pierre
00:45:30.480 said at a
00:45:31.080 White House
00:45:31.460 briefing
00:45:31.880 people are
00:45:32.900 not just
00:45:33.440 walking across
00:45:34.360 our southern
00:45:34.880 border
00:45:35.180 it's not
00:45:35.620 happening
00:45:36.040 now there's a
00:45:37.940 technical term
00:45:38.800 for what she
00:45:39.340 just did
00:45:39.780 there
00:45:40.040 that is
00:45:41.240 called
00:45:41.640 a lie
00:45:42.540 it is not
00:45:44.720 a point of
00:45:45.580 view
00:45:45.900 it is not
00:45:46.560 spin
00:45:47.180 it is not
00:45:47.820 advocacy
00:45:48.560 it is a
00:45:49.720 brazen
00:45:50.720 flat out
00:45:52.140 lie
00:45:52.800 and I
00:45:54.240 responded
00:45:55.040 actually on
00:45:55.640 this podcast
00:45:56.240 I said
00:45:56.800 Corrine
00:45:57.100 Jean-Pierre
00:45:57.800 come with
00:45:58.580 me to the
00:45:58.980 southern border
00:45:59.580 let's go
00:46:00.120 out
00:46:00.420 and in
00:46:00.920 one hour
00:46:01.400 I promise
00:46:01.960 you we
00:46:02.300 will encounter
00:46:02.940 illegal aliens
00:46:03.980 because over
00:46:04.780 eight million
00:46:05.880 have crossed
00:46:06.840 since Joe
00:46:07.320 Biden became
00:46:07.920 president
00:46:08.380 now let me
00:46:10.280 tell you
00:46:10.660 something
00:46:11.040 one of the
00:46:12.780 last times
00:46:13.360 I was there
00:46:13.920 a reporter
00:46:15.940 asked me
00:46:16.540 said
00:46:16.900 well aren't
00:46:18.180 the policies
00:46:18.880 of Democrats
00:46:19.720 much more
00:46:21.400 compassionate
00:46:22.080 and humane
00:46:22.740 on immigration
00:46:23.400 than you mean
00:46:25.020 old Republicans
00:46:25.740 who want to
00:46:26.220 secure the border
00:46:26.860 and I just
00:46:28.480 started laughing
00:46:29.160 and I said
00:46:30.620 you know who
00:46:30.960 doesn't believe
00:46:31.440 that anymore
00:46:32.020 the Democrats
00:46:34.080 I said
00:46:36.080 where's Joe
00:46:36.520 Biden
00:46:36.820 where's Kamala
00:46:38.960 Harris
00:46:39.360 where is a
00:46:41.320 single
00:46:41.920 Democrat
00:46:42.820 senator
00:46:43.440 none of
00:46:45.320 them come
00:46:45.820 to the border
00:46:46.360 and there's a
00:46:46.900 reason for that
00:46:47.720 because you
00:46:48.560 cannot see
00:46:49.520 what is
00:46:49.940 happening
00:46:50.340 you cannot
00:46:51.720 see the
00:46:52.400 dead bodies
00:46:53.140 last year
00:46:53.920 853 migrants
00:46:55.960 died crossing
00:46:56.820 illegally into
00:46:57.380 this country
00:46:57.900 Texas farmers
00:46:59.160 and ranchers
00:46:59.720 find dead
00:47:00.220 bodies on
00:47:01.160 their property
00:47:01.780 every single
00:47:02.820 day they do
00:47:03.400 the same
00:47:03.780 thing here
00:47:04.240 in Arizona
00:47:04.700 you cannot
00:47:06.360 see the
00:47:07.180 children
00:47:07.660 who have
00:47:09.340 been brutalized
00:47:10.420 by human
00:47:10.940 traffickers
00:47:11.580 you can't
00:47:13.020 see the
00:47:13.420 women who've
00:47:13.980 been sexually
00:47:14.600 assaulted
00:47:15.140 you can't
00:47:16.240 see the
00:47:16.720 more than
00:47:17.220 100,000
00:47:18.960 drug overdoses
00:47:20.320 last year
00:47:21.140 70% of
00:47:22.560 which came
00:47:23.140 from Chinese
00:47:24.060 fentanyl
00:47:24.460 you can't
00:47:25.040 see that
00:47:25.680 and argue
00:47:26.420 this is
00:47:26.840 humane
00:47:27.380 or compassionate
00:47:28.440 it is a
00:47:29.080 disaster
00:47:29.740 and we're
00:47:31.840 seeing blue
00:47:32.680 state governors
00:47:33.400 and mayors
00:47:34.220 people like
00:47:35.220 Mayor Erica
00:47:35.820 Adams
00:47:36.280 in New York
00:47:36.840 City
00:47:37.160 declaring an
00:47:41.000 emergency
00:47:41.620 and saying
00:47:42.360 illegal immigration
00:47:43.400 is destroying
00:47:45.020 New York
00:47:46.200 City
00:47:46.520 New York
00:47:48.300 City has
00:47:48.700 9 million
00:47:49.180 people
00:47:49.560 they've had
00:47:50.000 roughly
00:47:50.440 110,000
00:47:52.220 illegal immigrants
00:47:53.060 Adams
00:47:55.260 blames
00:47:55.920 that madman
00:47:57.240 down in
00:47:57.720 Texas
00:47:58.160 by which I
00:47:59.940 think he
00:48:00.340 means Governor
00:48:00.940 Greg Abbott
00:48:01.600 frankly I was
00:48:02.480 offended he
00:48:02.980 didn't mean
00:48:03.320 me
00:48:03.540 like what
00:48:05.240 do I have
00:48:05.660 to do
00:48:06.260 I'm sure
00:48:07.000 we can get
00:48:07.300 a reporter
00:48:07.700 to ask
00:48:08.120 that question
00:48:08.600 if I
00:48:08.800 clarify
00:48:09.260 right
00:48:09.680 I don't
00:48:12.060 disagree
00:48:12.440 with him
00:48:12.920 that 110,000
00:48:14.160 illegal immigrants
00:48:14.960 threatens to
00:48:15.600 destroy New York
00:48:16.380 City
00:48:16.640 but my
00:48:17.040 question is
00:48:17.880 if that's
00:48:19.040 true
00:48:19.440 what the
00:48:20.780 hell do you
00:48:21.300 think 8
00:48:22.100 million
00:48:22.720 is doing
00:48:24.140 for Texas
00:48:24.820 and Arizona
00:48:25.520 and the rest
00:48:26.340 of the
00:48:26.600 southern border
00:48:27.120 amen
00:48:28.220 so I can
00:48:31.300 tell you
00:48:31.860 periodically
00:48:32.640 I bring
00:48:33.320 my colleagues
00:48:34.080 down
00:48:34.420 so on
00:48:34.840 Thursday
00:48:35.300 I brought
00:48:36.320 five senators
00:48:37.100 down to the
00:48:37.820 southern border
00:48:38.360 to see
00:48:38.740 firsthand
00:48:39.180 what is
00:48:39.780 happening
00:48:40.160 the
00:48:41.160 Democrats
00:48:41.940 quite simply
00:48:43.040 do not
00:48:43.720 care
00:48:44.160 it is
00:48:45.800 the fault
00:48:46.520 this crisis
00:48:48.040 is man
00:48:48.560 made
00:48:48.820 Joe Biden
00:48:49.440 created it
00:48:50.200 Kamala Harris
00:48:51.280 created it
00:48:51.940 and every
00:48:52.800 single
00:48:53.300 Democrat
00:48:53.800 senator
00:48:54.320 created it
00:48:55.120 and they
00:48:56.340 could stop
00:48:56.880 it tomorrow
00:48:57.400 so I
00:48:59.020 cannot promise
00:48:59.800 you that I'm
00:49:00.340 going to
00:49:00.620 change
00:49:01.140 their view
00:49:02.380 but I can
00:49:03.700 promise you
00:49:04.300 I will continue
00:49:04.940 doing everything
00:49:06.000 humanly
00:49:06.680 possible
00:49:07.220 to tell
00:49:08.720 the American
00:49:09.380 people
00:49:09.840 the nightmare
00:49:10.780 the national
00:49:11.840 security
00:49:12.560 disaster
00:49:13.400 that they
00:49:14.280 are creating
00:49:14.900 the San
00:49:15.380 Diego
00:49:16.060 Customs
00:49:16.700 and Border
00:49:17.000 Patrol
00:49:17.420 last week
00:49:18.500 put out
00:49:18.860 a written
00:49:19.200 memo
00:49:19.580 directing
00:49:21.000 Border
00:49:21.360 Patrol
00:49:21.700 to be
00:49:22.000 on guard
00:49:22.540 for Hamas
00:49:23.200 and Hezbollah
00:49:23.800 terrorists
00:49:24.480 crossing our
00:49:25.760 southern border
00:49:26.420 and I
00:49:27.560 gotta tell you
00:49:28.080 I
00:49:28.280 changed his
00:49:28.920 words this
00:49:29.380 week
00:49:29.620 saying
00:49:30.020 he's
00:49:30.720 terrified
00:49:31.080 over this
00:49:31.780 this is
00:49:32.580 our last
00:49:33.060 podcast
00:49:33.480 on Wednesday
00:49:34.220 we played
00:49:35.000 Christopher
00:49:35.740 Ray
00:49:36.020 the director
00:49:36.460 of the
00:49:36.740 FBI
00:49:37.100 his words
00:49:37.940 before
00:49:38.640 Congress
00:49:39.160 where he
00:49:39.520 said
00:49:39.760 there's
00:49:39.980 a real
00:49:40.320 risk
00:49:40.660 of a
00:49:40.880 Hamas
00:49:41.240 attack
00:49:41.680 in the
00:49:42.760 United
00:49:43.060 States
00:49:43.500 right now
00:49:44.180 and I
00:49:45.740 am sorry
00:49:46.220 to say
00:49:46.680 I think
00:49:47.240 we're at
00:49:48.300 a greater
00:49:48.780 risk
00:49:49.240 today
00:49:49.700 of a
00:49:50.040 major
00:49:50.360 terrorist
00:49:50.860 attack
00:49:51.260 in America
00:49:51.840 than at
00:49:52.960 any point
00:49:53.820 since
00:49:54.160 September
00:49:54.620 11th
00:49:55.620 and as
00:49:56.160 long as
00:49:56.660 Joe Biden
00:49:57.260 and the
00:49:57.600 Democrats
00:49:58.080 keep
00:49:58.580 an open
00:49:59.280 border
00:49:59.700 we are
00:50:00.200 jeopardizing
00:50:01.160 the safety
00:50:02.120 of every
00:50:02.540 American
00:50:02.900 in our
00:50:03.180 country
00:50:03.480 one
00:50:05.060 final question
00:50:05.900 real quick
00:50:06.480 and we'll
00:50:06.900 wrap it
00:50:07.240 up
00:50:07.520 hello
00:50:08.600 senator
00:50:09.040 my name
00:50:09.540 is Matt
00:50:09.860 McGill
00:50:10.220 I'm from
00:50:10.540 Alexandria
00:50:11.140 Virginia
00:50:11.600 we have
00:50:12.500 a common
00:50:13.220 mentor
00:50:13.620 and Chuck
00:50:14.280 Cooper
00:50:14.600 oh fantastic
00:50:15.620 yeah so
00:50:16.400 my question
00:50:17.060 for you
00:50:17.440 is about
00:50:18.040 Citizens
00:50:18.800 United
00:50:19.280 versus
00:50:19.680 FEC
00:50:20.160 so
00:50:21.300 you know
00:50:23.140 this is
00:50:23.580 something
00:50:23.880 that Chuck
00:50:24.400 and I
00:50:24.760 worked on
00:50:25.340 together
00:50:25.740 going back
00:50:27.020 I don't
00:50:28.080 know
00:50:28.300 way back
00:50:29.160 to 2002
00:50:29.920 so
00:50:30.880 all of a
00:50:31.980 sudden
00:50:32.300 after the
00:50:33.240 Supreme Court's
00:50:34.280 decision in
00:50:35.060 2010
00:50:35.760 13 years
00:50:36.580 later
00:50:36.880 it's suddenly
00:50:37.380 controversial
00:50:38.000 again
00:50:38.460 just wondering
00:50:39.380 if you could
00:50:39.860 explain why
00:50:40.860 it's controversial
00:50:41.600 and where you
00:50:42.360 stand on that
00:50:43.000 please
00:50:43.320 thank you
00:50:43.860 so it is a
00:50:44.620 great question
00:50:45.340 I will say
00:50:46.860 that the
00:50:47.280 gentleman who
00:50:47.700 just asked
00:50:48.200 he said
00:50:48.520 that he
00:50:48.820 had worked
00:50:49.300 with Chuck
00:50:49.720 Cooper
00:50:50.080 Chuck
00:50:50.400 Cooper
00:50:50.700 was
00:50:51.100 my very
00:50:52.060 first boss
00:50:52.780 that I
00:50:53.080 worked for
00:50:53.600 after
00:50:53.900 clergy for
00:50:54.400 Chief Justice
00:50:54.920 Rehnquist
00:50:55.480 he's one of
00:50:56.420 my closest
00:50:56.900 friends and
00:50:57.480 mentors
00:50:57.820 he's one of
00:50:58.260 the top
00:50:58.720 Supreme Court
00:50:59.760 and constitutional
00:51:00.360 lawyers in
00:51:00.900 the country
00:51:01.300 the question
00:51:02.800 was about
00:51:03.220 Citizens
00:51:03.620 United
00:51:04.000 and I
00:51:05.520 have a
00:51:06.000 crazy
00:51:06.420 radical
00:51:06.880 view
00:51:07.280 which is
00:51:08.420 we should
00:51:08.760 protect
00:51:09.160 free speech
00:51:09.820 free speech
00:51:11.380 matters
00:51:11.980 you know
00:51:13.840 what Citizens
00:51:14.280 United was
00:51:14.880 about
00:51:15.180 so if you
00:51:17.640 look at the
00:51:18.020 case
00:51:18.260 Citizens
00:51:18.620 United
00:51:19.040 is a
00:51:19.420 non-profit
00:51:19.900 organization
00:51:20.600 that made
00:51:22.140 a movie
00:51:22.720 that was
00:51:24.020 critical of
00:51:24.620 Hillary Clinton
00:51:25.160 and the
00:51:27.060 Obama
00:51:27.500 administration
00:51:28.180 wanted to
00:51:28.920 go after
00:51:29.560 and fine
00:51:30.400 and punish
00:51:31.300 this
00:51:31.960 non-profit
00:51:32.560 organization
00:51:33.260 for daring
00:51:33.960 to make
00:51:34.440 a movie
00:51:35.000 that was
00:51:35.800 critical
00:51:36.260 of a
00:51:37.100 politician
00:51:37.540 and it
00:51:39.340 went all
00:51:39.680 the way
00:51:39.960 to the
00:51:40.160 U.S.
00:51:40.500 Supreme
00:51:40.780 Court
00:51:41.160 and actually
00:51:42.000 at the
00:51:42.240 U.S.
00:51:42.600 Supreme
00:51:42.820 Court
00:51:43.060 there's
00:51:43.360 an exchange
00:51:44.220 where
00:51:45.100 Justice
00:51:45.560 Alito
00:51:46.000 asked
00:51:46.520 the

00:51:47.080 Justice
00:51:47.460 Department
00:51:47.980 under
00:51:49.500 your
00:51:49.860 theory
00:51:50.420 that
00:51:51.460 the
00:51:51.640 government
00:51:52.000 can
00:51:52.320 punish
00:51:52.780 a
00:51:53.000 movie
00:51:53.260 maker
00:51:53.640 for
00:51:54.720 making
00:51:55.040 a

00:51:55.620 critical
00:51:56.340 of a

00:51:57.160 could
00:51:57.940 the
00:51:58.120 federal
00:51:58.360 government
00:51:58.760 also
00:51:59.300 ban
00:51:59.740 books
00:52:00.140 would you
00:52:00.480 have
00:52:00.720 the
00:52:00.880 authority
00:52:01.320 to
00:52:01.560 ban
00:52:01.820 books
00:52:02.240 you
00:52:02.400 didn't
00:52:02.700 like
00:52:03.060 that
00:52:04.280 criticize
00:52:04.840 politicians
00:52:05.520 and the

00:52:08.060 said
00:52:08.360 yes
00:52:08.760 yes
00:52:09.700 that's
00:52:10.020 exactly
00:52:10.480 what
00:52:10.720 we're
00:52:10.900 arguing
00:52:11.220 for
00:52:11.560 the
00:52:13.040 Supreme
00:52:13.380 Court
00:52:13.680 and
00:52:13.860 Citizens
00:52:14.160 United
00:52:14.620 quite
00:52:15.020 rightly
00:52:15.500 upheld
00:52:18.400 the
00:52:18.660 First
00:52:18.960 Amendment
00:52:19.340 and said
00:52:19.800 Americans
00:52:20.320 have a
00:52:20.840 right
00:52:21.100 to speak
00:52:22.040 and to
00:52:22.360 speak
00:52:22.580 about
00:52:22.840 politics
00:52:23.520 and the
00:52:24.200 government
00:52:24.540 can't
00:52:25.060 criminalize
00:52:26.020 you and
00:52:26.760 me
00:52:26.980 speaking
00:52:27.360 about
00:52:27.680 politics
00:52:28.280 now
00:52:28.640 I've
00:52:34.240 been in
00:52:34.480 the
00:52:34.620 Senate
00:52:34.820 11
00:52:35.160 years
00:52:35.560 I've
00:52:35.820 spent
00:52:36.020 the

00:52:36.460 11
00:52:36.800 years
00:52:37.000 I've
00:52:37.180 spent
00:52:37.400 all
00:52:38.180 of my
00:52:38.500 adult
00:52:38.840 life
00:52:39.120 fighting
00:52:39.500 to defend
00:52:39.980 the
00:52:40.140 Constitution
00:52:40.600 and the
00:52:40.940 Bill
00:52:41.060 of

00:52:41.520 my

00:52:42.920 in the
00:52:43.220 Senate
00:52:43.480 in
00:52:43.680 particular
00:52:44.140 I've
00:52:44.500 been
00:52:44.640 passionate
00:52:45.200 defending
00:52:46.360 free
00:52:46.740 speech
00:52:47.080 in the
00:52:47.320 wake
00:52:47.520 of

00:52:48.000 United
00:52:48.400 the

00:52:58.780 the
00:52:58.900 First
00:52:59.120 Amendment
00:52:59.420 now
00:53:01.340 you
00:53:01.460 probably
00:53:01.740 don't
00:53:01.940 know
00:53:02.120 that
00:53:02.320 because
00:53:02.480 the
00:53:02.620 news
00:53:02.780 didn't
00:53:03.040 cover
00:53:03.280 it
00:53:03.480 the
00:53:04.920 first
00:53:05.380 version
00:53:06.020 of the
00:53:06.300 constitutional
00:53:06.780 amendment
00:53:07.120 they
00:53:07.360 introduced
00:53:08.220 is an
00:53:10.340 amendment
00:53:10.740 that would
00:53:11.180 give
00:53:11.480 Congress
00:53:12.080 plenary
00:53:12.700 power
00:53:13.200 which
00:53:13.420 means
00:53:13.660 blanket
00:53:14.040 power
00:53:14.460 total
00:53:14.860 authority

00:53:21.220 of money
00:53:22.060 that
00:53:24.080 involves
00:53:24.460 politics
00:53:25.060 that
00:53:27.180 means
00:53:27.660 if
00:53:27.900 a
00:53:28.040 little
00:53:28.200 old
00:53:28.480 lady
00:53:28.720 goes

00:53:32.160 board
00:53:32.520 and
00:53:32.680 a
00:53:32.840 stick
00:53:33.220 and
00:53:34.820 puts
00:53:35.140 up
00:53:35.360 a
00:53:35.560 sign
00:53:36.040 on
00:53:36.880 her
00:53:37.020 front

00:53:37.740 that
00:53:38.000 says

00:53:39.000 Biden
00:53:39.400 is
00:53:39.600 a
00:53:39.760 dumbass
00:53:40.400 that
00:53:42.740 the
00:53:42.900 federal
00:53:43.140 government
00:53:43.560 could
00:53:43.800 make it
00:53:44.100 a
00:53:44.240 felony
00:53:44.560 and
00:53:44.780 lock
00:53:45.020 her
00:53:45.120 up
00:53:45.280 and
00:53:45.380 put
00:53:45.520 her
00:53:45.620 in
00:53:45.780 jail
00:53:46.020 that
00:53:47.740 also
00:53:48.060 means
00:53:48.400 by
00:53:48.620 the
00:53:48.760 way
00:53:48.920 the
00:53:49.080 federal
00:53:49.320 government
00:53:49.780 could
00:53:50.440 lock
00:53:50.780 up
00:53:51.080 Simon
00:53:52.020 and
00:53:52.240 Schuster
00:53:52.600 could
00:53:52.880 lock
00:53:53.200 up
00:53:53.420 a
00:53:53.560 movie
00:53:53.800 producer
00:53:54.300 could
00:53:57.180 each
00:53:57.300 the
00:53:57.460 federal
00:53:57.640 government
00:53:58.020 didn't
00:53:58.320 like
00:53:58.580 it
00:53:58.960 also
00:53:59.240 means
00:53:59.540 by
00:53:59.720 the
00:53:59.860 way
00:54:00.120 they
00:54:00.580 could
00:54:00.760 lock
00:54:01.020 up
00:54:01.200 any
00:54:01.400 union
00:54:01.700 organizer
00:54:02.240 who
00:54:03.160 spends
00:54:03.540 even
00:54:03.780 a
00:54:03.960 dollar
00:54:04.260 trying
00:54:04.620 to
00:54:04.780 organize
00:54:05.200 people
00:54:05.540 in a
00:54:05.780 union
00:54:06.040 I
00:54:09.300 led
00:54:09.580 the fight
00:54:09.940 against it
00:54:10.460 at the
00:54:10.680 time I
00:54:11.120 was the
00:54:11.360 ranking
00:54:11.640 member
00:54:11.980 on the

00:54:12.580 Subcommittee
00:54:13.260 of the
00:54:13.460 Senate
00:54:13.600 Judiciary
00:54:14.060 Committee
00:54:14.480 you can
00:54:17.580 go online
00:54:18.260 and watch
00:54:18.820 I debated
00:54:19.320 Al Franken
00:54:19.980 when he
00:54:20.380 was a
00:54:20.680 senator
00:54:20.900 before he
00:54:21.460 resigned
00:54:21.940 in
00:54:22.100 disgrace
00:54:22.500 really
00:54:23.660 a sad
00:54:24.000 day
00:54:24.200 for
00:54:24.340 America
00:54:24.580 I
00:54:26.700 asked Al
00:54:27.260 Franken
00:54:27.600 I
00:54:27.820 said
00:54:28.000 I
00:54:28.080 got
00:54:28.280 three
00:54:28.540 simple
00:54:28.940 questions
00:54:29.580 should
00:54:31.460 the
00:54:31.640 federal
00:54:31.900 government
00:54:32.340 be able
00:54:32.800 to
00:54:32.960 ban
00:54:33.220 books
00:54:33.600 yes
00:54:33.860 or
00:54:34.000 no
00:54:34.240 should
00:54:35.560 the
00:54:35.720 federal
00:54:35.960 government
00:54:36.300 be able
00:54:36.640 to
00:54:36.800 ban
00:54:37.060 movies
00:54:37.480 yes
00:54:37.780 or
00:54:37.920 no
00:54:38.160 and
00:54:39.580 should
00:54:39.760 the
00:54:39.900 federal
00:54:40.160 government
00:54:40.560 be able
00:54:40.980 to
00:54:41.120 criminalize
00:54:41.820 the
00:54:41.960 NAACP
00:54:42.980 because
00:54:45.520 after the
00:54:47.320 Democrats
00:54:47.780 retreated
00:54:48.440 from their
00:54:48.820 first version
00:54:49.600 of the
00:54:49.820 amendment
00:54:50.100 they shifted
00:54:50.680 to another
00:54:51.100 version
00:54:51.440 they said
00:54:51.860 well this
00:54:52.620 is only
00:54:53.160 true
00:54:53.620 for
00:54:53.860 corporations
00:54:54.500 well you
00:54:56.060 know what
00:54:56.300 Paramount Pictures
00:54:57.000 is a
00:54:57.280 corporation
00:54:57.760 under their

00:55:02.200 corporation
00:55:02.740 under their
00:55:03.660 amendment
00:55:04.020 you could
00:55:04.460 ban
00:55:04.720 books
00:55:05.160 and the
00:55:06.160 NAACP
00:55:07.040 is a
00:55:07.340 corporation
00:55:07.840 under their
00:55:08.420 amendment
00:55:08.760 they could
00:55:09.200 criminalize
00:55:10.100 membership
00:55:10.840 in the
00:55:11.140 NAACP
00:55:12.000 we were
00:55:14.380 in the
00:55:15.020 senate
00:55:15.260 I introduced
00:55:15.880 a substitute
00:55:16.580 amendment
00:55:17.020 to replace
00:55:18.840 every word
00:55:21.860 of their
00:55:23.760 amendment
00:55:24.220 with
00:55:27.160 word for
00:55:27.600 word for
00:55:27.620 word
00:55:27.800 the
00:55:27.980 first
00:55:28.220 amendment
00:55:28.540 to the

00:55:28.960 of
00:55:29.080 rights
00:55:29.280 of
00:55:29.380 the
00:55:29.440 constitution
00:55:29.920 every
00:55:31.720 single
00:55:32.100 democrat
00:55:32.500 voted
00:55:32.800 no
00:55:33.000 we
00:55:34.880 went
00:55:35.100 to the
00:55:35.400 senate
00:55:35.620 floor
00:55:36.000 I
00:55:36.180 led
00:55:36.460 the
00:55:36.580 debate
00:55:36.840 on
00:55:37.000 the
00:55:37.120 senate
00:55:37.320 floor
00:55:37.620 I
00:55:39.720 had a
00:55:39.980 poster
00:55:40.280 board
00:55:40.560 behind
00:55:40.920 me
00:55:41.100 so
00:55:41.260 they
00:55:41.420 had
00:55:41.560 tried
00:55:41.800 to
00:55:41.940 do
00:55:42.060 this
00:55:42.240 previously
