00:01:10.020 they were hitting sites of Russian bombers
00:01:12.820 in what was called a spider web operation.
00:01:17.100 I want to make sure, though, that people understand
00:01:20.440 this was a response to an attack
00:01:24.440 that took place at the hands of Russia and Putin
00:01:28.100 that Donald Trump referred to him as a crazy man afterwards.
00:01:31.960 So let's give the background before we explain what happened.
00:01:35.820 Well, listen, the war has been ongoing for more than two years now.
00:01:39.440 There's been massive casualties on both sides.
00:01:42.840 Russia is the aggressor.
00:01:46.460 Russia is the wrongdoer.
00:01:48.660 Putin invaded Ukraine, or another sovereign nation.
00:01:51.760 Putin did so because Joe Biden was so incredibly weak
00:01:55.440 because he was an ineffective commander-in-chief.
00:01:58.400 Putin did so because Joe Biden waived the sanctions on Nord Stream 2,
00:02:03.540 the pipeline that was designed to move natural gas
00:02:06.900 directly from Russia to Germany.
00:02:08.660 I authored those sanctions.
00:02:10.540 I passed them into law.
00:02:12.360 And President Trump signed my sanctions legislation into law.
00:02:16.500 Putin shut down Nord Stream 2 literally the day
00:02:19.580 Trump signed my sanctions legislation into law.
00:02:22.880 Biden waived those sanctions,
00:02:25.100 and Putin completed the pipeline
00:02:27.180 and almost immediately invaded Ukraine.
00:02:29.500 So the war has been ongoing,
00:02:32.480 and the cause of it is Biden's weakness.
00:02:37.600 Well, what happened today, Ukraine,
00:02:39.960 you know, I'll tell you, at the start of the war,
00:02:41.480 I remember sitting in a classified briefing,
00:02:44.000 and it was a classified briefing with all 100 senators.
00:02:47.600 And we had in that briefing,
00:02:49.080 we had the Secretary of State,
00:02:50.140 we had the Secretary of Defense,
00:02:51.200 we had the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,
00:02:53.060 we had the head of the CIA,
00:02:54.460 the Director of National Intelligence.
00:02:56.140 We had multiple players
00:02:57.880 throughout the national security apparatus.
00:03:00.120 This is all during the Biden administration.
00:03:02.200 Every single one of them briefed all of the senators.
00:03:05.160 They said this war will be over within a week.
00:03:08.400 Russia will sweep in,
00:03:09.680 they'll conquer the whole country,
00:03:11.020 Ukraine will fall,
00:03:12.740 and within a week,
00:03:14.160 Kiev will be a Russian city.
00:03:15.940 Now, that intel,
00:03:18.240 that national security assessment,
00:03:21.020 Ben, it wasn't slightly wrong,
00:03:23.140 it wasn't a teeny bit wrong,
00:03:25.180 it was totally catastrophically 180 degrees false.
00:03:29.320 We're sitting here more than two years later,
00:03:31.260 the war is ongoing.
00:03:32.960 And the Ukrainians keep shocking
00:03:34.780 both the Russians
00:03:36.720 and the American analysts
00:03:39.140 who insist that they must lose,
00:03:40.800 they must lose.
00:03:41.540 This latest strike,
00:03:42.680 it truly is audacious.
00:03:44.760 So the Ukrainians hit
00:03:46.320 more than 40 Russian bombers
00:03:48.180 inside Russian territory.
00:03:51.560 And it was a total of 41 strategic Russian aircraft.
00:03:56.100 The name of the operation was Spiderweb.
00:03:58.760 And you can see online,

00:04:02.100 showing a drone attack
00:04:04.280 at the Belaya Air Base
00:04:05.960 in Russia's Irkust region,
00:04:09.680 which is in Siberia,
00:04:11.500 nearly 3,000 miles away from Ukraine.
00:04:14.900 So understand,
00:04:15.520 this happened not by Ukraine,
00:04:17.080 but 3,000 miles away.
00:04:19.120 And the bombers,
00:04:20.360 they're under attack,
00:04:21.840 there are explosions,
00:04:24.040 smoke is rising from the scene.
00:04:25.780 And one source said,
00:04:28.680 quote,
00:04:29.440 preliminary estimates indicate
00:04:30.840 that enemy aviation
00:04:31.960 has suffered over $2 billion in damage.
00:04:37.020 Enemy strategic bombers
00:04:38.360 are burning en masse in Russia.
00:04:41.680 That is a major attack.
00:04:44.340 It is an extraordinary attack.
00:04:45.980 Now, that follows the night before.
00:04:50.420 Russia launched 472 drones,
00:04:53.540 according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
00:04:55.980 Earlier on Sunday,
00:04:58.320 Ukraine's army said
00:04:59.440 a Russian missile strike
00:05:00.680 killed at least 12 Ukrainian service members
00:05:03.460 and injured 60.
00:05:04.480 So Russia has been very much the aggressor,
00:05:07.280 but this attack,
00:05:08.640 taking out major aircraft resources from Russia,
00:05:13.860 is a big victory for Ukraine.
00:05:16.340 It is a big, big victory.
00:05:18.980 There are obviously worried individuals,
00:05:21.880 especially in that part of the world,
00:05:23.100 that Russia will then now retaliate
00:05:26.060 in some massive way,
00:05:27.440 and then therefore blaming Ukraine,
00:05:29.900 saying you should not have done this attack
00:05:32.440 that took them a long time to plan strategically.
00:05:35.740 I want to get your response to that,
00:05:37.980 because there does seem to be quite often
00:05:40.740 that when Ukraine does something,
00:05:42.960 the narrative becomes,
00:05:44.360 well, they're the ones that are bringing us
00:05:46.540 to the brink of World War III,
00:05:47.700 because now Russia is going to respond,
00:05:50.300 and it's actually their fault
00:05:51.760 that they went over the top on this one.
00:05:54.620 Yeah, look, Russia has been the aggressor
00:05:56.260 from the beginning.
00:05:57.120 Ukraine is defending itself.
00:05:58.960 I want to break down how they carried this out,
00:06:01.200 because it's actually,
00:06:02.220 this is the stuff of spy novels.
00:06:04.260 You know, we talked about
00:06:05.200 when Israel struck back against Hezbollah
00:06:07.200 with first the pagers,
00:06:09.540 and then with the walkie-talkies.
00:06:10.900 That was an extraordinary story.
00:06:12.840 This has similar aspects.
00:06:14.340 It's like something out of Mission Impossible
00:06:17.560 or the Bourne Identity.
00:06:19.100 And let me read from,
00:06:20.460 it's a story in Reuters,
00:06:22.340 the specific facts.
00:06:23.820 Here's what Reuters reported.
00:06:25.700 To attack Russian airbases,
00:06:27.360 Ukrainian spies hid drones in wooden sheds.
00:06:33.320 Ukrainian secret services
00:06:34.660 were able to attack strategic bomber aircraft
00:06:37.040 at Russian airbases on Sunday
00:06:38.620 by hiding explosive-laden drones
00:06:41.860 inside the roofs of wooden sheds,
00:06:45.600 according to a Ukrainian security official.
00:06:49.040 Ukraine's domestic security agency,
00:06:51.180 the SBU,
00:06:52.480 acknowledged that it carried out the operation
00:06:54.380 codenamed Spider's Web
00:06:55.740 and said it had caused considerable damage.
00:06:58.920 The sheds were loaded onto trucks
00:07:01.360 that were driven to the perimeter
00:07:03.600 of the airbases.
00:07:05.060 The roof panels of the sheds
00:07:07.040 were lifted off
00:07:08.600 by a remotely activated mechanism,
00:07:11.960 allowing the drones to fly out
00:07:13.780 and begin their attack,
00:07:15.200 the officials said.
00:07:16.480 The security official,
00:07:17.740 who spoke on conditions of anonymity,
00:07:19.700 said the strikes conducted on Sunday
00:07:21.500 were on four airbases
00:07:23.580 and that 41 Russian warplanes were hit.
00:07:27.480 An SBU statement posted
00:07:29.120 on the Telegram messaging app
00:07:30.580 estimated the damages caused by the assault
00:07:33.660 at $7 billion.
00:07:35.840 And here's a quote.
00:07:37.980 34% of strategic cruise missile carriers
00:07:41.140 at the main airfields
00:07:43.020 of the Russian Federation
00:07:44.100 were hit.
00:07:46.040 Wow.
00:07:46.760 That is remarkable.
00:07:49.280 And it is the fact
00:07:50.920 that they could carry it out
00:07:52.000 in wooden sheds
00:07:52.920 that they could smuggle
00:07:53.740 right next to the Russian airfields,
00:07:56.200 that's a significant tactical
00:07:58.500 and strategic victory.
00:07:59.620 So when you look at this,
00:08:02.120 what is the best case scenario
00:08:04.320 for this attack?
00:08:05.880 Does it make Russia realize,
00:08:08.460 A, they're vulnerable,
00:08:09.560 and B, maybe we need to go back to the table?
00:08:12.940 Because as you heard President Trump say,
00:08:15.980 he said Putin was crazy last week,
00:08:18.440 a crazy man,
00:08:19.740 and refusing to actually stop this war.
00:08:23.180 Instead, he went on this big attack
00:08:24.660 in Ukraine.
00:08:25.500 Ukraine responds.
00:08:26.560 Yeah, look, I think President Trump
00:08:28.860 is deeply frustrated
00:08:30.200 with Vladimir Putin right now.
00:08:32.560 President Trump wants this war to end.
00:08:35.060 I believe this war will end.
00:08:36.300 It will end this year.
00:08:37.760 And one of the reasons
00:08:38.860 it's going to end
00:08:39.680 is I think the United States Congress
00:08:41.140 is done sending money to Ukraine.
00:08:44.220 That at this point,
00:08:45.420 we have sent over $100 billion.
00:08:47.340 Enough is enough.
00:08:48.360 This war needs to end.

00:08:51.080 that Joe Biden and the Democrats gave,

00:08:55.320 Now, what I believe is it needs to end

00:09:02.060 and objectively discernible loss for Russia.

00:09:16.060 it's going to depend on Zelensky and Putin.

00:09:20.620 doesn't want to negotiate a peace.
00:09:22.980 He's looking to fight
00:09:23.880 and defend his country.
00:09:24.880 I understand that.
00:09:25.700 He just doesn't have an entitlement
00:09:26.940 for us to pay for it.

00:09:30.780 Trump believed that if he leaned in,
00:09:33.160 Putin would agree to come to the table
