you an update on our health care action plan. Alberta's health care system is struggling and

we promised that help was on the way. We restructured Alberta Health Services and appointed

Dr. John Cowell as official administrator and after 90 days we're delivering results. Over the

past three months we have been rolling out our actions to improve access to health care and

address the four priority goals in the health care action plan. The new year started in a positive

direction. In January more Albertans were able to get emergency care sooner. The number of patients

waiting longer for surgery has dropped by 9.4% since November. I'm also happy to report that we are

putting more ambulances on the road and adding more frontline staff where we can. In January alone

Edmonton has seen a 92% reduction compared to January of 2022. Calgary has seen a 59% reduction

over the same time period. These early trends show we are headed in the right direction.

AHS added nearly 400 frontline and support workers since November including doctors, allied health

professionals, registered nurses and EMS staff. Alberta is on the right track to build a stronger

better, publicly funded health system that is more accountable and more responsive to patient needs.

I am honoured that Premier Smith and Minister Copping asked me last November to be involved in the

government's health care action plan and execute and oversee an immediate 90-day plan to improve

Alberta Health Services. And I am pleased to say that over the last 90 days we've made these tangible and

measurable results and have laid the groundwork for more improvements to come.

We moved with urgency, we moved strategically and tactically and we will continue to focus on

and improve the areas of health care system that matter most to Albertans.
