00:00:00.000 all right folks welcome back um hey special
00:00:29.600 show today so actually i looked at the calendar i i thought i kind of thought maybe it was going to
00:00:35.080 be my one year anniversary but that's still coming down the road it's not quite yet it's been i think
00:00:40.120 it's been a year since i first talked to derek who brought me on the show um and and you know
00:00:46.380 this is a talk show but i've also often talked about the fact that i want to bring in guests
00:00:51.540 and i wanted to get comfortable before i brought in guests and then today we got a special treat
00:00:56.160 So I got a text yesterday from a friend who also happens to be a podcaster.
00:01:03.160 She texted me telling me she's in town for the conference that's going on right now.
00:01:06.640 We'll talk about the conference.
00:01:08.560 And we're trying to juggle schedules just to hook up and have a chat.
00:01:12.580 And I said, you know what?
00:01:13.640 Come on the show.
00:01:14.720 And let's, so this is my first guest on the show.
00:01:18.640 So my first guest is Carla Treadway, otherwise known as the Sovereign CEO online.
00:01:24.820 Thanks for coming, Carla.
00:01:26.160 How are you? I'm great. Thanks for having me, Marty. I'm glad you get to test out the scenario
00:01:30.300 here with me. Yeah, well, I got a bit of goosebumps. I mean, you're an old pro at this.
00:01:35.900 I'm not quite an old pro at podcasting. I'm vocal online, but podcasting and interviewing
00:01:43.200 guests is not my specialty. You do a lot of guests. I do a ton of guests. It's nice. I just
00:01:49.180 have to bring the questions and then I get to bring in all the experts because I got no problem
00:01:53.380 talking but I'm not an expert in finance and geopolitics and science so it's a
00:02:00.220 great way to meet a whole lot of people that are a lot smarter than me yeah so
00:02:04.480 do you remember how we met I do want me to yeah I was in a pub it wasn't so we
00:02:11.860 met Tucker Carlson's event right so big flashback so Tucker Carlson was here in
00:02:17.620 calgary uh at the telecenter you were a special guest to his yes yeah um i got a dm from uh
00:02:27.620 supposedly tucker carlson's team and i almost deleted it i was like yeah right and then i kind
00:02:33.540 of snooped at who the person was and i i said oh my god like this is legitimate and uh he had just
00:02:40.260 seen like a you had a viral post what was it you had a style in those days it was like a satire
00:02:46.660 slapstick comedy reel kind of just making fun of the state of Canada right so his team flew me out
00:02:53.760 to the event to make a piece of content with Tucker and I got to go VIP to the event there
00:02:59.180 lots of big names at that event too so you were VIP backstage who was there Conrad Black
00:03:05.000 Jordan Peterson did you meet Jordan Peterson that day or he came in that or that or he was
00:03:10.000 with Tucker in Edmonton I think or was he with Tucker oh I can't even remember uh no he was
00:03:14.940 there i didn't get a chance to meet him there was a big lineup i didn't i didn't want to bombard him
00:03:19.180 so so so then i was there at the event just as an observer uh a friend of ours clyde had flown in
00:03:26.980 that was the first time i met clyde in person went to the event met so many people in person
00:03:31.380 that day it's like i remember like it was yesterday met uh eva chip yuck in person for
00:03:35.740 the first time that day and then on the spur of the moment we decided to me and clyde decided to
00:03:40.500 invite a bunch of people over to the Jameson a pub down or not that I one of
00:03:45.900 the pubs on on Stevens Avenue you muscled your way in you came in with us
00:03:51.360 and then I sat down we sat down and being the gentleman that I am I'm like 0.91
00:03:56.280 ladies ordered first and you ordered something that just I ordered a Guinness
00:04:00.900 yes and you were like did we just become best friends yeah and did you just
00:04:05.100 order a Guinness because we were in an Irish pub or that's one of your go-to
00:04:09.360 two beers. No, I actually really love Guinness, especially when it's chilly out. And then I think
00:04:14.980 my next drink was like a Moscow Mule and you were like, come on. Oh, come on. Yeah, because the Moscow
00:04:20.420 Mule for me, I like the Moscow Mule, but I drink, I call it a variation. When I'm out hiking,
00:04:27.540 I can't bring a lot of, you know, I bring a little bottle of whiskey when I'm out hiking and then I
00:04:32.180 mix it with lemon flavored crystal light and then at the end of the day after
00:04:40.360 hiking right I have my crystal light and my little whiskey and over the years I
00:04:43.920 started calling it somebody said well that's almost a Moscow mule because I
00:04:47.720 come from up north a place called Fox Creek I started calling it the Fox Creek
00:04:50.840 mule and well you'll never believe this when I am also in the bush usually like
00:04:56.480 snowmobile trips I always bring a thermos but my drinks a little different
00:05:00.320 It's whiskey, hot water, lemon, and honey.
00:05:04.600 And that's like my go-to outside beverage.
00:05:06.880 Jeez, kindred spirits.
00:05:08.440 So before we dive into why you're here and what we're going to,
00:05:11.520 and by the way, folks, nothing changes today.
00:05:15.500 I have a guest, but by all means, you know, the number,
00:05:18.120 John's got the number on the bottom there.
00:05:19.800 Give us a buzz.
00:05:21.300 As usual, let us know your name, where you're calling from,
00:05:23.680 what's on your mind, and you can ask us anything.
00:05:25.880 It doesn't necessarily have to do with what we're talking about.
00:05:28.900 I mean, it's your show.
00:05:31.260 So before we talk quickly about why you're here today,
00:05:35.380 tell us a bit about your background.
00:05:37.140 Where do you live?
00:05:38.100 You live somewhere pretty cool.
00:05:39.800 I live in Kenora, northwestern Ontario.
00:05:43.040 And I don't even really feel like I live in the town.
00:05:45.580 We live on an island on a giant lake called Lake of the Woods.
00:05:50.620 So we boat back and forth most of the year.
00:05:53.200 And then when that freezes over...
00:05:54.340 Are you off-grid, technically?
00:05:56.300 We're not.
00:05:57.260 We have been.
00:05:57.760 And in the past, we had, I think our place was like 600 square feet.
00:06:02.540 Like my definition of off-grid would be solar panels, no power, not connected to power.
00:06:07.940 So you have power now?
00:06:09.500 Yeah.
00:06:09.940 Once upon a time, we were off the grid.
00:06:11.800 And then we have two kids now.
00:06:14.080 So when we had two kids, that place started getting a lot smaller.
00:06:16.820 So we built a big place.
00:06:18.380 And then the big place and off-grid doesn't really work.
00:06:21.780 So now we're fully connected.
00:06:24.200 But if the world shut down, that little cabin still exists.
00:06:27.800 You can disconnect the power and you go back to being self-sufficient kind of thing.
00:06:31.620 That's awesome.
00:06:32.420 Plus, the new place has a hot tub.
00:06:34.000 I kind of like that.
00:06:35.000 So I'm okay with being connected.
00:06:36.560 And then are you part of a small little community?
00:06:39.480 Do you have neighbors?
00:06:40.380 We have neighbors.
00:06:41.180 There's, I think, eight other cabins on the island.
00:06:44.040 Okay.
00:06:44.600 And it's a really cool lake.
00:06:46.200 If people don't know about it, there's 14,582 islands.
00:06:50.880 and it's got approximately just okay it's got more shoreline than any lake in
00:06:59.340 North America so it's kind of like living in on the ocean it goes all the
00:07:03.200 way down into Minnesota and yeah I feel totally disconnected from the woods
00:07:09.480 right later but there's a jog in the border of Canada are you in that
00:07:16.320 neighborhood you know like their 49th parallel goes straight then it jogs up
00:07:21.560 comes back down you're somewhere around there yeah you're almost on the Manitoba
00:07:24.900 border yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I think I've gone through there once that border
00:07:31.200 crossing but and and then so now you left a little bit of controversy or not
00:07:38.880 controversy you're doing something crazy yes back there back home so I've been
00:07:43.920 podcasting pretty steadily for about six years. And I really naively thought it would be really
00:07:51.360 good for my mental health to just stop focusing on all the bigger problems and actually get
00:07:56.220 involved in my local community, just focus on some small solutions. So I'm running for city
00:08:01.320 councillor. And I knew there would be some kickback because I have very like right leaning podcast
00:08:08.080 and I've done a lot of satire. We touch on controversial issues, but I didn't expect
00:08:13.760 anything, like what I'm getting back home. Today, there is a protest against me.
00:08:19.380 Hang on one second. So when's the municipal elections in Ontario?
00:08:24.620 It's started on the 13th, so it's currently active.
00:08:28.560 Okay, so it's active. So it's not like you're announcing that you're going to be a candidate.
00:08:33.460 You've been nominated or whatever process is in Ontario. So you are officially a candidate.
00:08:38.680 Officially a candidate.
00:08:39.320 it for counselor which could lead to the mayor or does or does mayor get singled
00:08:44.240 out early on like is yeah marriage its own separate thing on separate yes not
00:08:48.340 the counselors choose their mayor afterwards you guys have mayor and
00:08:51.740 counselors okay yeah exactly yeah and okay so you're diving in history of
00:08:56.660 politics in your family none and no one was running and just kind of last minute
00:09:02.780 I also gathered two friends who are kind of like-minded entrepreneurial smart
00:09:09.080 guys and i was and i was like you should run with me so we kind of ran on um we ran as a group
00:09:16.280 basically with the same vision our community has been really hit hard by lots of different factors
00:09:22.120 like factors that aren't that are happening all around canada are like our lots of our
00:09:27.480 industries have shut down we have a lot of homelessness a lot of addiction and the problem
00:09:32.680 seemed to be getting worse and not better um so we kind of ran on the same platform downtown safety
00:09:39.080 protecting the downtown core.
00:09:41.920 I mean, I know where you stand, I think, on the political spectrum,
00:09:45.560 but do you present yourself as sort of right-leaning conservative in that context?
00:09:51.460 Are you allowed to present, or are municipal politicians in Ontario all expected to be neutral?
00:09:59.200 I think you're expected to be neutral.
00:10:01.560 Of course, my podcast talks about all kinds of things,
00:10:05.040 so I haven't brought in anything conservative-specific.
00:10:09.080 into the campaign. I said very little, in fact, before the kickback came. I basically said our
00:10:15.400 downtown needs to be safer, which is true. The kickback, not the money, the kickback,
00:10:19.400 the pushback. The pushback. Let's call it the pushback, not the kickback. 0.84
00:10:22.920 Yeah, I said pretty much nothing. We need things to be safer. We need to make it easier for
00:10:27.800 businesses to set up. We should look at, oh, you guys will like this. For the sin of mentioning
00:10:35.480 Alberta because I've been meeting with some of Alberta's recovery team and just learning about
00:10:41.700 what's working in other small communities and I'm really impressed what Alberta's done
00:10:44.940 um for the sin of mentioning Alberta like I became Trump who's going to put ice on the streets and
00:10:52.680 it's honestly it's been um hysteria and um and and and who's protesting you do you know do you
00:11:01.540 get a sense are they local or is it somebody that's coming in from somewhere
00:11:05.200 else it's complicated but apparently it it started has become a professional
00:11:10.960 business now totally like I've been involved in oil and gas projects where I
00:11:15.760 knew that the protesters were not local so yeah listen we I love when we get
00:11:21.340 calls so we got a call so let's let's practice this because we haven't
00:11:25.120 practiced this with a guest so if the calls for Carla for me well we let us
00:11:30.100 what's on your mind so go ahead caller where are you calling from it's uh chris from calgary hi chris
00:11:36.740 how are you what's on your mind good good so uh we have mark carney in town today and he's doing
00:11:43.780 an event for the forever canadian and i noticed one thing when mark turns up um the citizens don't
00:11:54.660 hang on one second chris john's going to turn up the volume just a little bit we're having a hard
00:11:59.300 time to hear you repeat your question mark carney's in town today and what he's uh doing a forever
00:12:05.860 canadian rally at the bmo center and i just noticed a little trend here like when mark
00:12:11.700 carney shows up things don't always go the way he wanted things like when he showed up for game
00:12:16.580 seven at the denoilers they lost his family when he showed up for on a blue case they lost to the
00:12:22.500 the World Series, Olympic hockey teams, men's and women.
00:12:26.240 They both lost.
00:12:27.200 So I guess my question to you is what effect do you think
00:12:30.120 Carney's visit is going to have on the referendum?
00:12:33.460 Do you think the Carney curse will be in effect?
00:12:36.240 Yeah, so that's what he's referring to, right?
00:12:38.080 I mean, the Carney curse affected, did it affect the Blue Jays?
00:12:41.340 Is it affected Canada's soccer team?
00:12:47.440 Actually, why don't you take it first?
00:12:49.080 because I got a strong opinion on how Kearney affects independence,
00:12:53.940 but I'm curious about your overall opinion on independence.
00:12:57.840 But let's talk about that as an outsider.
00:13:00.700 So what do you think Kearney is doing for us right now?
00:13:04.600 Or could do for us?
00:13:05.400 Like for the independence movement, you mean?
00:13:07.300 Yeah, is he good or bad?
00:13:08.520 What do you guys see out in Ontario?
00:13:11.720 Kearney definitely is a federalist.
00:13:14.220 He's beyond a federalist.
00:13:15.340 He's a globalist, so he's definitely not on board with taking away the cash purse from Canada.
00:13:21.740 Yeah, like, you know, my opinion on Carney is pretty straightforward.
00:13:27.260 I mean, I think he told us who he is in a book.
00:13:30.260 He wrote a book that's like 600 pages, right?
00:13:32.360 And I've always said when somebody tells you what they're going to do or who they are, believe them.
00:13:37.160 So I really don't.
00:13:38.500 And Carney spent as part of the liberal establishment, he advised Trudeau.
00:13:44.080 and he spent a long time he's responsible for some of the bad policies that we have
00:13:48.340 and i think he's right here right now trying to appease albertans it's not a coincidence that
00:13:55.360 he's here and i mean i i think he could have influenced the uh i i said it all along he
00:14:02.760 probably had more influence on independence than anybody else he could have done something really
00:14:07.660 smart like change the equalization formula and i think if he had changed the equalization formula
00:14:13.500 quickly he could have taken all the wind out of the sails and the independence party would
00:14:18.160 movement it would have been dead in the water removed interprovincial trade trade removed a
00:14:23.040 tanker band do like he could have done some really concrete things but instead he came along with
00:14:27.620 we you know the mous we refer to the memorandums of understandings i'll build you a pipeline if
00:14:34.240 and so it's long answer um he's in town i don't think at this point he's going to change anything
00:14:40.900 because people are voting now they've made up their minds i don't think a lot of people are
00:14:44.180 going to change their mind on and on how they vote in the next two days but i'm hoping that
00:14:49.380 there is such a thing as the carny curse and i hope that it um that it helps us is that how's
00:14:56.260 your thoughts on that chris it was chris right yeah yeah yeah no i hope that the carny curse
00:15:03.140 is in full effect and one thing that i think is a little gargi is uh the next day tomorrow
00:15:08.420 He's doing another event up in Expo Center.
00:15:12.480 And while he's doing that event, there's also a polling station,
00:15:15.600 advanced polling station, open at that very location.
00:15:19.640 So I hope that brings out the option two, people.
00:15:22.880 Send the message right to Carney.
00:15:24.660 He'll be right there in the building.
00:15:26.360 You can drop your option two ballot right on his head.
00:15:29.280 Right on.
00:15:29.980 Thanks for calling.
00:15:32.440 Thanks, Marty.
00:15:33.080 Yeah, lots.
00:15:35.020 Yeah, so it's, I mean, for us in Alberta, it's fascinating.
00:15:38.420 right now everybody's visiting including you you know carney's in town uh poilier is going to be
00:15:44.400 in town um there's going to be uh also and for me really the most fascinating thing about
00:15:50.700 independence from an alberta point of view is the strange bedfellows that it created
00:15:56.720 you know like like this week in particular we had jason kenny and rachel notley and i don't know how
00:16:03.480 much Ontarians appreciate the love-hate relationship between those two and citizens and those people
00:16:09.820 and so anyway so it is what it is so so back to your story so you're so um you were you haven't
00:16:17.740 witnessed the protest against you though that's it started when yesterday started today today i was
00:16:22.520 sent some photos and essentially this is just being done by a couple of progressive women
00:16:28.700 who have clipped my podcast out of context, 0.96
00:16:32.780 taking 60-second clips out of two-hour-long conversations.
00:16:37.160 And they've just been blasting these clips.
00:16:40.920 It's their full-time job.
00:16:42.420 So probably 30 posts about me a day.
00:16:45.320 1% of my content has ever even touched on First Nation issues.
00:16:49.480 We've covered Kamloops.
00:16:50.620 I've interviewed Frances Whittowson.
00:16:52.760 And they're really lobbing on to that. 0.76
00:16:54.860 And, of course, I'm being painted as a horrible monster, a racist, 0.57
00:16:58.700 a denialist, none of which is true. My husband and children are Ojibwe Métis, card-carrying. 1.00
00:17:07.420 Prior to the podcast, I used to make programs for First Nation communities. I worked out there. 1.00
00:17:13.140 And even now, we hire people from the community. My kids work in the community. The whole thing
00:17:18.580 is ridiculous, but they've really caused a lot of division in my community, a lot of hate. 0.79
00:17:25.480 And the only thing that I can do is just stand. 0.91
00:17:30.100 Hopefully it creates a little bit.
00:17:31.500 I don't think the term Streisand effect applies specifically.
00:17:35.000 I mean, but, you know, hopefully it brings you some people who will go look at your background and your profile and actually see that it's that what they're presenting is false.
00:17:44.840 Right.
00:17:45.380 I don't think like this is not.
00:17:48.080 Welcome to politics.
00:17:48.980 Right.
00:17:49.300 I mean, it's vile.
00:17:50.460 It's vile.
00:17:51.020 Right.
00:17:51.160 Like I've been asked many, many times to run.
00:17:54.820 Yeah.
00:17:55.480 and and i usually have two answers a is i'm i'm old enough now i paid my dues i did enough
00:18:01.220 somebody else needs to carry the torch but i do get close to going maybe i jump into it but then
00:18:07.060 i think wow what you submit your whole family to all right we got another call i uh let's let's
00:18:13.020 go ahead caller where are you calling from what's your name please
00:18:15.540 oh did we lose it hello no go ahead
00:18:21.080 hey marty how you doing good i'm from vancouver sorry i missed your name from vancouver
00:18:28.580 what's on your mind hey i i got a question about uh this rally planned by the pm yep it uh
00:18:42.140 it overlaps it well first of all it's at the polling station
00:18:45.660 in Edmonton, and it overlaps.
00:18:48.840 Why is this allowed?
00:18:51.460 It's a three-hour
00:18:52.420 overlap, so he's actually there holding
00:18:54.400 a rally while polling is
00:18:56.400 being conducted. Is that not illegal?
00:19:00.960 I'm not a constitution...
00:19:02.320 I'm not an expert on the subject.
00:19:04.420 Let me just put a bit of context,
00:19:06.340 add to your story. So, folks, there are...
00:19:08.300 It's not Carney's rally, first of all.
00:19:10.420 They're Thomas Lukasik's
00:19:12.720 Forever Canada
00:19:14.520 group they're doing their last minute push so they got two big rallies they got one this afternoon
00:19:20.060 and you're at the BMO center right now Carla right and we still haven't even talked about
00:19:23.980 why Carla's in town so she's at the BMO center and I think their rally there starts at five and
00:19:28.800 then there's one tomorrow in Edmonton now the rules are usually that once a polling station
00:19:36.700 is established there's no campaigning around the polling station within certain distances and stuff
00:19:41.020 like that so i don't i to answer your question i have no idea how they get away with this i actually
00:19:46.800 just looked that up today because uh where my protest was was also in front of city hall which
00:19:52.280 is also a uh designated voting destination so i think this stuff i i i am not 100 clear on this
00:20:01.320 but everything that i've read seems like that is election interference and it's not allowed
00:20:06.560 so if that is happening you should probably definitely call it out i i think it's yeah
00:20:10.720 Yeah, I agree. I think it's been called out. But this brings out a bigger part. And I had it on here as something to talk about. You know, last week, we watched in Montreal, the Quebec election. And I was very vocal about that. I said, watching that election, as a data scientist, I was blown away. I was so impressed. Like, the results came in, they shared all sorts of data that allowed us to see for ourselves that everything looked pretty transparent, pretty copacetic, all above board.
00:20:40.720 Results came in, great participation, and I praise Elections Quebec for their election.
00:20:47.020 Here in Alberta, Elections Alberta, for the last six months, has been nothing but a gong show.
00:20:52.800 Like, you know, this week we have advanced polling.
00:20:56.000 They were late opening the stations.
00:20:58.120 There was confusion.
00:20:59.900 They're staying open late.
00:21:01.440 I gave an example online where I live in a house with three people right now, me and my wife, and we still have a son at home.
00:21:08.020 and me and my wife each got our voter registration cards and were sent to
00:21:13.240 different places to vote and I'm like for 20 years we've been living together
00:21:17.320 at the same address same thing happened to me last year and I've never gone
00:21:20.980 anywhere else yeah and I'm like so I'm looking at it going okay the address
00:21:25.840 changed I didn't change the address same thing yeah yeah me and my husband same
00:21:30.040 thing this I'm like what's going on and then the people at the station like I
00:21:34.300 showed them I'm like I've never one second sorry Chris are you still on the
00:21:37.120 line or did chris hang up i'm still here i'm just listening away all right okay i was gonna say
00:21:44.540 thanks chris if you don't mind hanging up and we'll give the chance to somebody else but thanks
00:21:49.020 for your call bud and and get out and vote i'm sure you are yeah thanks yeah yeah both my husband
00:21:55.060 and i we didn't even recognize that address and when i showed the election officials they were
00:22:00.000 like they kind of whispered to each other and then we're like oh it's it's fine just take it
00:22:04.960 And, like, that seems really fishy.
00:22:07.780 Yeah.
00:22:08.560 Yeah, lots.
00:22:10.080 I'll just add one thing that was funny about that.
00:22:12.660 So I registered.
00:22:13.680 You guys know this, right?
00:22:14.960 I'm a liberal, quote, unquote.
00:22:16.760 So I registered for the party so I can go to these events.
00:22:19.920 Now, the event this afternoon is not a liberal event.
00:22:23.800 It is a Forever Canada event.
00:22:26.100 You know, Thomas LeCasic, his group.
00:22:28.340 But they happen to have invited Kearney to it.
00:22:31.280 So we had to register for that event.
00:22:34.740 i've registered i don't think i'll get in but i just wanted to mention one thing right
00:22:40.340 as part of thomas's group has something called say they they they're openly say say
00:22:48.180 no to the nine so there's nine questions there's ten questions on the referendum but the first nine
00:22:53.140 are the tenth question is the independence one the other nine are um matters of immigration
00:22:59.860 constitutionality and other matters right question five is super interesting because question five
00:23:06.100 simply says uh do you agree that uh people who want to vote in alberta should have to present
00:23:13.620 a passport or some form of id and people who say no to the nine are literally saying no to
00:23:19.940 that question and i've challenged many people i'm like how can you say no to the concept of just
00:23:24.420 showing ID to vote but the people who say no to the nine are holding a
00:23:28.440 conference today in Edmonton and in Calgary where I need to show ID to go to
00:23:32.940 the conference so let that sink in so you want me to show ID to go to your
00:23:36.360 conference but you don't want me to show ID to vote what is the rut the only
00:23:40.440 rationale to not show ID is to cheat they're saying it's racist they're
00:23:46.080 under because they're saying some it's the same argument that the Americans
00:23:49.680 face when they've tried to get, you know, to firm up their ID laws.
00:23:55.480 It's that it's difficult to get an ID and that it disadvantages certain people and that
00:24:01.740 it's racist.
00:24:02.520 It sounds more racist to assume that people can't get IDs.
00:24:06.200 Right.
00:24:06.780 You're making an assumption about their intellectual capabilities.
00:24:10.800 Yes.
00:24:11.200 Yes.
00:24:11.500 Absolutely.
00:24:12.100 Yes.
00:24:12.280 And we also just need to stop doing that argument where every time we don't like something,
00:24:16.420 it's racist.
00:24:17.120 It's probably not.
00:24:18.060 no yeah it's weak sauce right i mean being called you well you said it so during during your protest
00:24:25.240 you're being called racist yes it's awful uh what else what else do we get called uh we get called
00:24:30.020 mega north here uh for you you might get that oh yeah i've got some mega i've got some uh kkk 0.79
00:24:37.160 that was a nice one some uh definitely lots of fascism lots of fascists interesting yeah yeah
00:24:43.520 and i don't think most people even know what fascism means i don't think they could even spell
00:24:47.200 it yeah yeah F A I know is it the S before the C okay so all right so good
00:24:55.380 luck on your campaign when's the vote it ends on the 26th so this is a busy
00:25:00.800 month in Canada right because we had an election in Quebec provincial election
00:25:05.040 in Quebec provincial election in provincial and municipal in British
00:25:08.760 Columbia a referendum here in Alberta municipals in Manitoba you guys have
00:25:13.840 municipals wow what's your thoughts on i want to get into here but because you're on the show here
00:25:21.000 let's let's stay with ontario because it's so cool to get an ontario perspective um what's going on
00:25:28.580 in ontario generally these days um well we just had the osap scandal um which is hilarious that
00:25:36.960 They shut down the funding to all the Ontario universities.
00:25:39.700 But if you are in China or Iran or Gaza, you still get funding somehow.
00:25:46.460 So that's been a big scandal.
00:25:47.760 Lots of people have been talking about.
00:25:49.660 And one thing that I was paying attention to was Eric Lombardi dropped out of the race.
00:25:54.260 I'm not a Doug Ford fan.
00:25:56.840 And I've been watching Eric Lombardi for a while.
00:25:59.440 He's a liberal.
00:26:00.960 But I kind of liked what he was saying.
00:26:03.120 And I don't want to give the liberals more power.
00:26:06.720 but at the same time i don't i don't consider myself a super partisan person i'm not like my
00:26:11.520 team no matter what uh eric lombardi was sounding a lot better than doug ford and i like what he was
00:26:17.600 saying about bringing the liberal party back to sanity uh but he dropped out i've i've always
00:26:23.520 personally voted for individuals it just so happens that most of the time that based on their
00:26:29.760 qualities their character and stuff like that then it just so happens that most of the time
00:26:33.120 they're conservative right i mean i i i think i've voted liberal uh provincially or federally
00:26:39.920 maybe once and i've and i've you know and i don't always vote for the same party let's put it that
00:26:45.280 way and i think that's becoming more important these days because there are a lot of crazies
00:26:50.080 out there on both sides so i so i'm so i get what you're saying right so you're basically saying
00:26:54.640 that there's a liberal who's actually makes more or is a more likable person than doug ford yeah
00:27:01.760 That's Doug's popularity right now.
00:27:04.500 I mean, to me, he looks like, well, Doug is the class.
00:27:08.040 Me and Clyde and on this show, we've made fun of Doug so many times.
00:27:12.500 I mean, like, if there was a Canadian Saturday Night Live. 0.61
00:27:16.940 He's a meathead.
00:27:18.020 Doug would be on the show.
00:27:19.100 And we'll come back to Doug.
00:27:20.240 We got a call.
00:27:20.920 Go ahead, caller.
00:27:21.540 Where are you calling from?
00:27:25.040 Yeah, I'm calling from Northern Sunrise.
00:27:28.440 And my name is Doug.
00:27:30.980 Hey, Doug. 1.00
00:27:33.320 We like some Dougs. 1.00
00:27:36.160 What's on your mind, Doug? 0.96
00:27:37.340 Well, I wanted to mention that I've moved up to Northern Sunrise in 2020
00:27:46.560 and have every election up here, no problem.
00:27:54.000 I went to the Election Alberta website.
00:27:58.680 It said I wasn't registered.
00:28:00.980 And so it took me four days to fill out their form so they would actually accept my address.
00:28:11.820 And then I finally got the message, you're registered.
00:28:16.460 How would you like your election card?
00:28:19.000 So I said, email it to me.
00:28:22.760 It never came.
00:28:24.560 I went in on Monday to the advance or Tuesday to the advance poll, and they had no record of me.
00:28:36.980 Wow.
00:28:37.540 So it took another seven minutes to register again. 0.99
00:28:42.780 And while I was at the poll, she had to get the supervisor there or the manager, whichever.
00:28:49.420 and i heard them talking and they said yeah this isn't the first problem we've had from
00:28:57.860 these rural addresses yeah yeah well thanks for thanks for that doug so in the end it worked out
00:29:06.460 you're able to vote oh yeah auction two all the way okay well thanks for being patient with that
00:29:13.260 because i think part of the that's one of the things right is that the frustration gets people
00:29:17.660 to i know good on you for keep like just keeping at it like so many people don't vote even when it's
00:29:24.060 easy right and the fact that you have to keep on like showing up and fighting for this like it says
00:29:29.180 a lot yeah yeah thank you doug thanks for that thanks for sharing that um yeah you know and
00:29:34.700 again not to dwell on the topic but it's it's it's uh canada used to be known for you know our
00:29:42.940 democracy like we were a model like if you were if you were holding an election in i don't know
00:29:47.820 you know vietnam in 1970 you brought in canadians to supervise and to help and now we're the guys
00:29:55.020 who are like we're the gong show i mean we are i heard a funny story yesterday you know when people
00:30:00.860 used to go traveling they would say you put a canada flag on your backpack instead of the
00:30:04.540 american flag and then people would treat you better yeah now i heard you're walking around
00:30:09.900 with that well i heard now when people see that canada flag they're like that's someone you want
00:30:14.380 to take advantage of like that's someone that you could easily take right we're yeah it's a label 0.98
00:30:19.820 right on our floor it's a big label that guy's a sucker that gal's a sucker wow um actually just 0.95
00:30:25.500 a weird story on that i used to uh my parents lived in morocco so i had i'd go visit my parents 0.96
00:30:31.340 in morocco and morocco was famous for kids scamming you and bugging you and pestering you right and
00:30:37.820 And so I'd ignore them.
00:30:39.500 You'd just ignore them.
00:30:41.280 And one day I was walking in the market, and some kid just goes,
00:30:44.760 hey, John McEnroe.
00:30:45.860 And I turned around, and I'm like, ah, now he knows I speak English.
00:30:49.540 And that kid's just going to hound you, right?
00:30:51.280 Like, you got, like, so good, so good, so good.
00:30:54.880 So, all right, well, were we done on Doug Ford?
00:30:58.640 Yeah, what I was going to say is, so we make fun of Doug Ford.
00:31:01.180 I love making fun of Doug Ford.
00:31:03.460 It definitely looked like Doug, like so many other politicians right now,
00:31:07.460 had a perfect nemesis in Trump but it's obvious that Trump is ignoring us right
00:31:13.040 now I think Trump finally you know he he he trolled us he did what he needed to
00:31:18.320 now he's back to focusing on what he needs to worry and and then you got Doug
00:31:23.240 Ford you got David Eby whose nemesis just disappeared and they look like
00:31:27.860 they're floundering they're like what do we do now I know so like what's Doug
00:31:31.340 doing in right now how's he what's he presenting what's he saying I haven't
00:31:36.500 heard anything from him for a while other than the scandal I think he's
00:31:39.140 hiding a little bit yeah but I think that's a lot of Canadian politicians
00:31:43.580 without Trump to just point the fingers at people love a villain like you learn
00:31:47.900 that from like campaigning people love to just point their finger at somebody
00:31:51.020 else and it's really easy to point that finger and that's why Quebec was so
00:31:57.200 fascinating because the Quebec electorate said no no no no no Trump we
00:32:01.880 don't care anymore like you know it had been a year so the electorate in their
00:32:05.220 vote basically focus asked had all their debates asked the politicians the word trump never came
00:32:10.340 up i i think i think we're starting to see a little bit of a shift in the culture like um
00:32:16.980 like in bc you're seeing the conservatives start to rise um i think people can see through these
00:32:23.620 acts like they saw through the quebec the quebec candidate saying that she her whole campaign is 0.98
00:32:28.660 basically i'm going to tackle trump people are like well that's that's stupid um and i i saw a 0.98
00:32:34.740 recent university study saying that 88% of university students have woke fatigue 0.99
00:32:41.400 also. So they basically looked at everybody's opinions on all these
00:32:45.540 different issues, what their actual opinions are, and then what they say
00:32:48.540 publicly. And it basically said what we all think. Nobody actually thinks this
00:32:54.060 way. No, no. But they're too spineless to actually say. Woke fatigue is a real thing.
00:32:58.620 yeah climate fatigue I mean even even Greta Thunberg is on to something else
00:33:04.940 you know nobody nobody talks about climate nobody there was another yeah
00:33:09.720 there was another study the other day that showed like there's a dramatic drop
00:33:13.140 in the number of kids under the age of 15 who identify as LGBTQ is like oh
00:33:19.140 surprise surprise right like yeah there was a noticeable increase and then 0.95
00:33:22.320 suddenly a noticeable drop it was a fad and and people are just tired of the
00:33:26.520 inconsistent rage so like in the United States for example you have a woman that
00:33:32.460 murdered her own children and everyone supported her but then you have a
00:33:36.360 comedian Shane Gillis who said why are women wearing clothes in the gym oh the
00:33:42.620 world is burning down how dare you well and same thing I mean what he said is
00:33:48.180 bad but then on the other day turned around and they criticized Cindy Sweeney 0.99
00:33:52.740 Sweeney Sweeney for her ads on like she's a whore and then Shane Gillis says that 0.95
00:33:56.880 and they're like she's wearing the gym clothes that the mental gymnastics we
00:34:03.460 will get on the topic of why you're here but one last question did you see Mark
00:34:07.680 Carney's little post yesterday or two days ago just the picture of General
00:34:12.000 Brock no oh you didn't see that so so Mark Carney is still trying to
00:34:17.060 antagonize like again like that he had that first video with like the little
00:34:21.660 military so yeah so two days ago he did it again he he literally posted on X I'm
00:34:26.220 sure it's on other platforms and it just said whatever 1812 on this date and
00:34:32.340 then and then it's it's a zoom in of the little general Brock figurine on his
00:34:37.780 desk okay well we got it after this call we will go back to why you're here so
00:34:44.520 alright caller where are you calling from what's your name please oh it
00:34:48.880 dropped all right well hopefully we get another one okay so why are you in town 0.56
00:34:54.560 well I'm in town one to escape the I hate Carla protest and in my town well I
00:35:03.100 think hashtag Carla derangement syndrome is appropriate yeah but I'm here to
00:35:08.560 cover the Canada strong and free event so I'm here with Natalie who you know so
00:35:12.280 you're not a speaker you're covering it yeah I'm just doing media I got a media
00:35:15.700 pass. So today was all about sort of best practices for conservatives. I'm not sure everybody knows.
00:35:21.780 So Canada Strong is the Manning Foundation or who is it? Or is it something it's its own thing?
00:35:27.440 It's its own thing. And it's a it's a the leading conservative event in Canada gathers different
00:35:33.900 speakers, different think tanks. So it's part like educational like today. And then tomorrow
00:35:39.780 it'll be more speaker based. So we have Pierre will be speaking, Daniel Smith, Tristan Hopper,
00:35:45.440 boost party our own boss yeah derrick phillebrand yes yes derrick will be there okay and where was
00:35:52.320 it last year i don't know um the so it bounces around it's one of those conferences that bounces
00:35:57.680 around okay so it happens to be here we'll come back to it go ahead caller where are you calling
00:36:01.440 from well hi uh this is joe i'm calling from uh just around uh calgary and i think for me
00:36:09.680 the disconcerting thing is that since the liberals have been in power i don't think
00:36:14.640 they've answered a question of significance in parliament in the last 12 years and i think the
00:36:21.600 other thing too that's causing me to lose hope is that the government can just give away billions
00:36:27.360 and billions of dollars to whatever they want and there's no oversight or scrutiny
00:36:33.040 and i think it's just getting to a point where a person you just start to give up like
00:36:38.320 how do you change this well well you're you're you're you're preaching to the choir i think here
00:36:47.460 um well one of the i mean i i'm so disillusioned with the liberals in ottawa that that's why i'm
00:36:54.080 a separatist so i guess my short answer is uh vote option two on question 10 but carla what's
00:37:01.900 your answer because you guys don't have a separatist movement so how do you how do you fix
00:37:06.260 this yeah you need to get people with integrity back in in power um i don't like and you're
00:37:13.220 talking about legal things here too like they can legally do all those things um my mind goes to like
00:37:18.900 all of the scandals look at all of the scandals that trudeau got caught in red-handed nothing
00:37:26.340 they can't even do it legally and but they are like something to that point you know um they are
00:37:33.140 doing things like uh going as an example the trudeau went an entire year and a half without a
00:37:39.380 budget which is illegal in our constitution right and nobody called him out on it a few people tried
00:37:45.140 to you know the parliamentary budget officer i mean they're getting away with um yeah they i i
00:37:50.660 guess one of the solutions though is is we shouldn't re-elect some of these people i know
00:37:56.100 like you live in a province that re-elected doug ford i know i don't know how that quebecers
00:38:00.820 re-elected Legault which was like I couldn't understand that but finally they
00:38:06.320 saw the light and yeah there's no easy answer there's no easy I think it was
00:38:10.900 Lise Merle that said it's not like the old days where you would just drag your
00:38:15.220 member of Parliament out into the town hall and you would tar and feather him
00:38:18.400 if you did I lost an account for saying that I lost an X account for joking
00:38:25.480 about like when do we start tarring and I mean no one should do that speaking
00:38:29.800 metaphorically no one should ever do that yeah we're not encouraging it so yeah thanks for that
00:38:34.660 question what's your thought that if joe are you still there what's your what's your quick thoughts
00:38:38.840 have you given up or what's what's on your what are you doing about it no no i haven't given up
00:38:45.380 and i'm definitely going to um vote for separation um i i don't know i really don't know i think the
00:38:53.780 other thing too is i think the corruption throughout all everything all the bureaucracy
00:39:00.320 i think there's so much corruption i i don't know i'm i i honestly i have no answers like
00:39:08.840 it sounds easy enough to to bring in to try to bring some people in to change it
00:39:15.280 but then now i'm got this conspiracy stuff going on where i don't trust anybody anymore because
00:39:22.520 for all i know they're like a socialist implant in the ucp party yeah so sorry i couldn't answer
00:39:28.680 your question i honestly don't know what i appreciate the call i'm just going to tell you
00:39:32.120 this i mean don't give up right um no none of us give up i mean we we've we've gone through cycles
00:39:38.200 like this in the past and there's there's generally a there is generally a correction that occurs
00:39:43.960 right like uh some scientists call it mass psychosis like what we're living through now is
00:39:50.760 it's still the remnants of covid we still went through a weird phase as long as enough people
00:39:57.000 keep speaking the truth uh you wake up others slowly and then the other thing that happens is
00:40:03.720 there's the real reality like these people that are the the carnies of the world that are passing
00:40:09.480 policies that are failed eventually enough people it really hurts people when it starts to hurt
00:40:16.120 people then they wake up right and that's one of the things i've been frustrated about is that more
00:40:20.520 people like you're like you're suggesting right you're you're kind of hitting that bottom and
00:40:25.480 you're realizing it a few more people will hit it but but then hitting the bottom is not the
00:40:30.920 it's just the bottom then we climb again so i don't think it's going to get fixed uh the normal way
00:40:36.040 through normal democratic processes um i something dramatic needs to happen and that's what we see
00:40:43.160 through history it's like the fourth turning things just get to like a boiling point and either
00:40:49.080 you experience some financial collapse a world war uh a real pandemic something like that happens
00:40:55.800 and then there's like a restart button or you get a controversial uh person a donald trump or yeah
00:41:04.760 and that's why people have called me a trump i said like i i mean intense like trump doesn't
00:41:10.280 have to be trump uh bukele in el salvador he came in with like a blowtorch and he's like we're
00:41:15.560 We're getting rid of everyone in the judicial system.
00:41:18.400 We're getting rid of all the upper.
00:41:20.420 We had Ralph Klein 30 years ago.
00:41:23.060 We need someone that's like, no, we're setting this whole system on fire and we're starting over.
00:41:29.940 Yeah.
00:41:30.280 Thanks for calling, Joe.
00:41:32.760 All right.
00:41:33.060 Thank you.
00:41:35.680 That sounded like coaching.
00:41:37.800 You coach, right?
00:41:39.060 I did.
00:41:39.440 You still coach or are you done coaching?
00:41:40.960 I do a little bit of like marketing strategy for people, but.
00:41:44.260 You need a political coach? Have you got a political coach to help you, or are you going to do this the old-fashioned way?
00:41:51.440 I've definitely talked to, I have a lot of wise counsel right now, especially with all this drama.
00:41:58.320 I've talked to Michelle Ferreri about this. I've talked to some really good lawyers and just people that have been in the political space or have been through these leftist cancel culture campaigns before.
00:42:11.180 Yeah, good luck.
00:42:13.120 so back to the conference until somebody else interrupts it but I love this I
00:42:17.260 like we're trying some days some days the colors are slow some days there's
00:42:22.060 certain topics that just ignite and obviously today Carney's visit and a
00:42:26.740 few other things I try to bring people one thing that is upsetting is people
00:42:32.080 that call in there are a lot of people who are completely at their wits end mm
00:42:36.160 and and I don't like some days we do sound gloomy but some days I got to try
00:42:40.920 bring it back up we all do right I mean it's not that bad I mean we we still
00:42:46.680 live in Canada we still we're not constantly fighting with each other
00:42:51.060 we're not at war we I don't have bombs you know flying overhead like they did
00:42:55.980 and yeah in Israel and I had a great uber ride yesterday the man was from
00:43:01.380 Serbia and he's now a Canadian citizen and we were I always just like pour my
00:43:07.500 heart out and in the uber and he was saying um questions from the uber well i was talking about
00:43:14.740 canada declining and and he was saying how he's been in like some pretty savage wars and that
00:43:19.940 is actually pretty good here and i said yeah but it's declining and it should be much much better
00:43:25.900 and he totally agrees and he said well you know what your problem is in in the west right and i'm
00:43:32.640 like what well you're weak you don't protect anything you don't protect your
00:43:37.960 the family your value system and I said I couldn't agree more so some some of my
00:43:42.600 favorite friends online and in real life are people who came from behind the
00:43:49.620 Iron Curtain yeah and and who saw this and and then escaped and then come here
00:43:55.360 and go you guys are doing the same thing you know like yeah this is repeating
00:43:59.160 itself and but he was basically saying that it's like it's it's obviously not
00:44:04.500 terrible here but he sees also like thing things are declining and yeah it's
00:44:10.440 the reminder it's actually a common sentiment sentiment that you know I
00:44:14.820 campaigned hard for the referendum and collecting signatures and stuff like that
00:44:19.500 and I heard a similar comment from a lot of people people would say to me Marty
00:44:23.400 you're just complaining you have it so good here and yes pragmatically i realize why because we
00:44:31.420 there are a lot of people for whom alberta is the land of opportunity they came here from a really
00:44:36.680 shitty place if you came to alberta from war-torn yeah syria or ukraine or whatever in the last five
00:44:43.420 years this is heaven is it i talked to a lot of immigrants and i actually just interviewed kevin 1.00
00:44:49.500 Dahlgren and he's interviewed 10,000 homeless people okay the amount of
00:44:53.880 homeless people who are fresh immigrants to Canada or like at one point were an
00:44:59.760 immigrant because they couldn't make a go of it here the the dream is not as
00:45:04.320 alive no no no I get yeah yeah no I get that I get that but I guess I'm
00:45:08.100 generalizing that they're leaving a war zone yeah yeah there are a lot of people
00:45:11.580 who come here it's this this place Canada Alberta specifically the standard of
00:45:16.980 living here is pretty darn high for sure compared to most places so yes I get
00:45:20.860 that some people come here and say you're basic to me you're basically
00:45:24.360 complaining it's good here I'm like yes but I want to make it better like it's 0.69
00:45:29.400 not a race to the bottom and just simply saying hey we're better than North Korea
00:45:33.300 that's not good enough for me no and I think that's where the elbows up people 0.76
00:45:36.360 are getting stuck they're like no Canada is awesome and it's like yeah you should
00:45:41.280 always be grateful for what you have every day focus on everything that's
00:45:44.580 good in your life. But I don't think you're a real patriot if you're not paying attention to
00:45:49.100 the problems and you're watching us just slip into decline and not doing anything about it.
00:45:53.180 Yeah. You ever heard of deep canvassing? No. I learned a lot about canvassing while I was
00:45:59.140 collecting signatures. You know, canvassing is going and trying to get people entering into
00:46:04.240 dialogue with people. And deep canvassing is a nice way to disarm those people. And the opening
00:46:09.620 The opening that I learned for the discussion with the elbows up, the really hard elbows up, is like, on a scale of 1 to 10, how good is Canada for you right now?
00:46:20.300 And if somebody said 10, it'd be pretty easy to go, really?
00:46:23.420 But most didn't even say 10.
00:46:25.140 They'd say something like 7.
00:46:26.660 I was like, okay, cool.
00:46:27.620 You're a 7.
00:46:28.380 I'm a 4.
00:46:29.940 So let's explore why you still think it's a 7, right?
00:46:33.760 And so that was deep canvassing.
00:46:36.760 Look it up someday.
00:46:37.520 Maybe it could be useful.
00:46:38.880 while you are you doing that kind of stuff are you door-knocking I was until
00:46:42.720 this all this nonsense kind of blew up okay so you're at the conference training
00:46:53.940 any so no speakers so far or anybody in particular you're listening looking
00:46:58.700 forward to hearing um well I've never met Pierre or Danielle so I'm excited to
00:47:03.920 meet them tomorrow. So as a media personality, you get an opportunity to do the scrum with them
00:47:09.920 kind of thing? Or do you think it's low enough that they're just moving around? I think I'm just
00:47:15.000 very good at weaseling my way into the appropriate place. Okay. We'll see. You've never met Danielle?
00:47:20.280 No. She's very nice, very likable. I really like her. One-on-one, like she's one of those rare
00:47:26.180 politicians where I would sit around the campfire with her and you know that if you ask her for an
00:47:31.660 opinion on something or chat you're going to get a good chat i'm very jealous as an ontarian yeah
00:47:36.660 uh that you guys have daniel smith and like from afar i see a woman that is really doing her best
00:47:44.160 and this might have said people i i see her doing her best to manage a whole lot of situations right
00:47:49.580 now it's a big tent it's called the united conservative party it's a big tent of people
00:47:55.820 on the right and we are like herding cats yes I get that I get that I mean we
00:48:01.980 are stubbornly independent and self-sufficient and opinionated and to
00:48:08.080 try and bring us under the one roof is a hard hard thing and it's good to be
00:48:12.440 particular and it's good to want what you want but like you guys could have
00:48:15.920 Doug Ford right now you can have David Eby Daniel's a dream yeah yeah yeah
00:48:22.520 No, I've been lucky because I'm in a small writing, and we don't have a UCP MLA.
00:48:31.640 I have an independent MLA.
00:48:34.200 My writing is so interesting.
00:48:35.760 I live in one of the most conservative writings on the planet, you know, northwest of here,
00:48:41.180 and it's an experiment.
00:48:42.560 It is one of those places where we can try and bring in new parties and new candidates
00:48:50.260 without the risk of splitting too much it's like a libertarian colony yeah
00:48:54.760 basically and so she comes to she's come many times to our writing to do her
00:49:00.220 town halls because there's nobody else who can do it so she doesn't personally
00:49:03.520 and sometimes like the one a month ago there was a hundred of us and it ended
00:49:08.300 up being a one-on-one chat actually it was funny she was she did good Danielle 0.58
00:49:11.920 that day because we were kind of ganging up on her she knows me right she like
00:49:16.060 yeah and she still brings her bodyguards and when I walk up to the microphone I'm 0.95
00:49:19.480 I'm gonna be nice I'm gonna be nice don't worry about it you know she handles
00:49:25.000 herself yeah so so you Danielle have you met Pierre I have not not met I've
00:49:31.060 been to his rallies he did come to Kenora but there was yeah there was a
00:49:35.480 huge lineup I just yeah I didn't I opted out see yeah Pierre Pierre Pierre is one
00:49:41.500 of those guys where I I've chatted very quickly with him and you can tell he he
00:49:48.300 can't drop the politician and i wish he would he he you know like just drop it like if in some
00:49:53.980 contexts right if we're around the fire just drop it don't give me the canned answer like give me
00:49:59.340 i just needed more time like i i know jasmine spent a little bit more time with him and i i
00:50:04.860 think has experienced more like pierre the human being too so you probably just need more time
00:50:10.060 yeah she's a wonderful lady all right we got we got a couple more calls hopefully go ahead
00:50:14.380 caller where are you calling from what's your name
00:50:18.460 harry make i'm calling from edmonton alberta hi harry how are you
00:50:23.980 oh i'm wonderful i'd just like to uh comment on the show that's being aired
00:50:28.140 right now go ahead uh what i'd like to do is i'd like to
00:50:33.980 comment uh on the issue uh from the biblical
00:50:37.420 perspective i don't know if uh if this would be well received or
00:50:41.980 not but what i want to comment on is that when the lord told us to pray he said let your kingdom
00:50:50.320 come let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven the word kingdom means that god is the king
00:50:58.000 and we should follow him and he told us to that god's will would be done on earth as it is in
00:51:06.420 heaven. And what's happening now is that the corruption that's being perpetrated by Ottawa
00:51:14.500 is not God's will. And we are quickly, quickly going into a godless society with all the
00:51:25.400 corruption that's coming from Ottawa. And I would like to say that we really need to
00:51:31.840 get back to uh god and his and his instruction for us i'll i'll i can't disagree with that i
00:51:41.300 appreciate you calling and sharing that perspective i mean um there's an interesting
00:51:47.160 book i think it's called the courage to save canada yeah um and it's a book basically stating
00:51:53.400 the this country was created based off of judeo-christian values and regardless of your
00:51:59.140 religion um the country would be better served if we did adhere to them in terms of peace less
00:52:05.860 division prosperity all of those things i i don't disagree actually thanks for calling caller john
00:52:11.140 are they still on or okay thanks for calling no actually um interesting segue one of the speakers
00:52:19.620 is that you're going to meet maybe you've met him is bruce party so bruce i've met bruce many times
00:52:25.940 Bruce is a strong advocate for independence but he goes I've seen him
00:52:31.280 on stage where it gets really fiery especially here in Alberta because he
00:52:35.480 he's he's a proponent of a Constitution without God mm-hmm and I know what he's
00:52:42.260 saying mm-hmm but I have a hard time wrapping my head around it myself
00:52:47.660 personally as a Christian and and it's a it's an and that and I don't entirely
00:52:53.200 agree. Some days I agree with Bruce, but on that one, some days I think, and Charlie Kirk brought
00:52:58.800 it up very nicely, that we function as Christian societies, and our society is set up to be a
00:53:05.220 Christian society. Yes, absolutely. And certainly people can have a moral compass without God. It's
00:53:10.980 totally possible. We all know people like that. But there is just something, I think, more powerful
00:53:17.400 about believing in a higher power. But again, having that as a part of your constitution,
00:53:21.660 it doesn't even mean that you are forced to be a spiritual person it's it's just
00:53:26.220 like these these are the rules for living that we know work yeah yeah yeah
00:53:30.780 I want to see I'd like to see Bruce party debate Jordan Peterson no that
00:53:38.700 would be good that would be really good because last time I saw Bruce it well
00:53:42.780 I've seen Bruce several times he comes here all the time he's a strong
00:53:45.660 supporter I think he's even speaking tonight somewhere in Alberta but I saw
00:53:50.100 I'm on stage. What's the Australian American journalist from 60 Minutes? Lara something.
00:53:58.740 Loomer?
00:53:59.620 Yeah. And he debated her.
00:54:02.520 Really?
00:54:02.780 Oh my God, it got ugly. She did not like it. Like she was so pro-Christian constitution and he was so
00:54:11.540 atheistic. And then she literally was like, anyways, it was funny, funny, funny, funny.
00:54:16.800 It's just words, folks. It's just a base. Like, we've got to be able to have those chats, right?
00:54:21.160 Yes. Name calling.
00:54:22.660 And I know I'm as hot-collared as anybody else, and I'm guilty of it, but we've got to be able to have those chats.
00:54:30.360 That's all that is.
00:54:31.600 Yep.
00:54:33.160 Okay, cool. I've got a couple of topics here. Anything on your mind? Anything you want to talk about?
00:54:39.500 I mean, we're really running out of time. We've got about four minutes, and I have to do my closing.
00:54:43.320 I don't know. I just really like being in Alberta. I feel like this province is really checked in.
00:54:49.140 People pay attention to politics. They're really involved.
00:54:52.920 There always seems to be some sort of event or group or something rallying around here.
00:54:57.940 And I just really like that this province seems to stay involved.
00:55:02.060 We became political to a whole new level in the last couple of years.
00:55:06.400 Before I take that last call, I spent a lot of time working in Quebec.
00:55:11.440 and I always said that in Quebec politics was a blood sport when I was
00:55:15.460 there back in the days it was in the papers it was everywhere it was in the
00:55:19.540 cafes everybody and here back in those days here in Alberta it was blah nobody
00:55:24.400 cared about politics but recently we've become COVID turned that around for us
00:55:30.620 we have annual general meetings of the Conservative Party the the UCP that
00:55:36.760 attract 6,000 people. And we had, and I was at one of the, one of the events a couple of years ago
00:55:42.460 in Red Deer. One of the MLAs was all proud of that. I was like, Hey, we got 6,000 people. I'm
00:55:47.180 like, what are you proud about? Yeah, we're angry. We're angry. Don't take this as a, this is not a
00:55:52.420 endorsement of what you guys have been doing. If you were doing a great job, it would be like 20
00:55:56.660 years ago and we wouldn't care. But there's 6,000 of us here. So before I'll take one last call,
00:56:02.580 you got to make it sort of quick. We got about four minutes. Go ahead. What's on your mind?
00:56:06.760 go ahead did i lose it john
00:56:12.920 all right no worries sorry about that okay well um that's it for the callers um
00:56:25.100 last okay so you love it here in alberta would you ever move here um if i just lived in a city
00:56:32.320 for sure i i would be gone maybe even in the united states but we have this like perfect little
00:56:39.200 nugget of land um like i'm so detached from what's happening in in canada it really feels
00:56:46.200 like i'm on i am on an island but right you can disconnect and i can disconnect um if i didn't
00:56:52.440 have that uh i i would be gone i would be in alberta okay and and all right well we'll leave
00:56:58.620 it at that we'll leave it at that uh i i i i love alberta that's that's all i'll say i i'm in the
00:57:05.680 same world i mean i'm i'm lucky i live in alberta uh you know i was actually this what i was going
00:57:10.220 to ask you i'll let this be one of my last questions but um i have a rule about how close
00:57:15.020 my neighbors are so i asked you how many neighbors you have right i my rule is um it used to be that
00:57:20.780 if i take out uh uh my driver and i can hit it 300 yards and i hit your house you're too close
00:57:26.940 yep that was too close now it's like if i take out a shotgun and or a firearm and i hit your house
00:57:32.880 you're still too close how far are your neighbors are they a three wood a three iron uh good yeah
00:57:38.920 they're about a three iron but then of course we we have an airplane too so we often fly to other
00:57:45.360 islands or uh other lakes that are like 50 miles past the furthest road north and because the
00:57:50.820 airplanes right there, we can take off. So most of the time we are just in nature. There's nobody
00:57:56.740 around us, but everyday living, uh, and those neighbors are only there in the summer. Are you
00:58:01.680 a pilot? I've been thinking about it right now. I'm not too many things on the go. I just, I can't
00:58:07.900 imagine that first solo flight. It's so scary, but it may be in my future. Thanks for coming on my
00:58:14.620 show. Yeah. Thanks for having me. It was a great first experience for me. Now I can do guests
00:58:20.120 going forward. All right, folks, that's it for this show. Right now, John's got this. We can't
00:58:30.480 bring you content like this for free. We're not like CBC getting $1.2 billion a year, ballpark-ish.
00:58:39.380 And so we rely heavily on the goodwill of subscribers. It's $10 a month, $100 a year.
00:58:46.380 Right now, the paywall is down.
00:58:48.840 I think the paywall will be down for another couple of days until the referendum's over.
00:58:52.780 That's because we wanted people, we wanted, the stories are so important during this referendum.
