00:00:00.000 hey welcome back uh thanks for joining me
00:00:30.000 on this, I'm not gonna say beautiful,
00:00:32.740 every day is a beautiful day,
00:00:33.840 but it's raining today here downtown in Calgary.
00:00:36.420 But thanks for joining me during your lunch hour
00:00:39.420 for most of you, I guess, or maybe slightly after lunch.
00:00:45.360 I think this show is gonna, for me,
00:00:47.400 this show is gonna fly today
00:00:48.960 because I was walking over here,
00:00:50.380 making the quick list of things I wanna talk about
00:00:52.640 and the list is never ending,
00:00:54.860 which is sort of what I expected, right?
00:01:02.800 Like the summer was kind of calm, right?
00:01:04.940 Summer's always calm.
00:01:06.040 Politicians are in recess and stuff like that.
00:01:08.500 And now you can sort of sense this bubbling
00:01:10.400 and the country's about to become even crazier than it's been.
00:01:15.300 And isn't that sad that the reason the country becomes crazier
00:01:18.500 is because politicians go back to work, right?
00:01:20.860 That says something.
00:01:21.640 Like if we had less politicians and they weren't doing anything, we'd be better off.
00:01:26.640 But then as soon as politicians go back to work, things seem to escalate and get crazy.
00:01:31.740 So speaking of politicians, I walk into the studio here and I got Mr. Stephen Gilbeau over my shoulder.
00:01:39.300 I'm not going to leave him very long. I'm going to reach around and toss him on the ground.
00:01:43.380 But the reason we put him up is because Stephen Gilboa finally told Elections Canada that he was resigning, right?
00:01:52.940 He announced his resignation way back.
00:01:55.540 I think it was in, was it October last year when the first MOU was signed?
00:02:01.540 Yeah, I think it was October, November.
00:02:02.960 So as soon as, you know, when Carney and Smith signed their first MOU, he got upset.
00:02:09.180 And, you know, Canada's going backwards and I can't stand for this.
00:02:13.240 So he stepped out of cabinet.
00:02:16.940 He resigned as minister in protest.
00:02:19.460 He didn't resign as a parliamentarian,
00:02:22.180 but he kind of said that he would step down.
00:02:24.560 And then later on, he got upset a second time this year.
00:02:28.780 I think back in May, he got upset again at the second MOU
00:02:31.900 between Ottawa and Alberta.
00:02:36.100 And so at that time, he's like, okay, I'm going to resign
00:02:38.680 sometime near the end of summer.
00:02:40.900 and he kind of hinted that he was going to do it on August 28th but there was three by-elections
00:02:47.000 in Canada on Monday and after the result of those by-elections well actually I'll just talk quickly
00:02:53.560 about those by-elections right so the one there was two two liberals that had stepped down and
00:02:59.160 one conservative in Quebec had stepped down Carney won all three seats so the liberals
00:03:04.160 two were expected the one in British Columbia and the one in Ontario everybody expected them
00:03:09.280 to stay liberal. The one in Quebec, in Chicoutimi, the fjord, was contested a little harder and it
00:03:17.180 ended up being a true vote split where the bloc and the conservative split and the liberal got in.
00:03:23.960 So that temporarily gave Carney back his majority, like ever so slim, right, 173. And then just to be,
00:03:33.780 I'd say a bit of just in character.
00:03:37.560 Stephen Gilbeau went to Elections Canada
00:03:40.940 and said, I resigned effective the 31st,
00:03:43.660 which kind of dropped Carney back to,
00:03:46.160 don't quote me on this,
00:03:47.020 maybe somebody can comment in,
00:03:48.120 but I think he's down to 172.
00:03:49.660 So I don't think there's a majority
00:03:51.440 for the Liberals at this point.
00:03:54.480 And then we still have a few other,
00:03:56.580 we have one more resignation to take effect soon,
00:03:59.640 the one of Brock.
00:04:04.800 Anyways, there's one resignation still pending,
00:04:07.980 and then there's five empty seats,
00:04:09.220 so we'll have six by-elections in the next couple of months.
00:04:12.380 And anyway, so Stephen Gilbo, my friend,
00:04:17.160 happy to say, good riddance.
00:04:22.120 All right, so what are we going to talk about?
00:04:24.840 Again, folks, this is a call-in show.
00:04:27.120 Don't be shy.
00:04:27.960 You can make some comments, but I definitely encourage you to call.
00:04:32.280 The number, John will put it back down on the screen there.
00:04:34.960 It's down on the screen.
00:04:36.140 Please call.
00:04:36.760 Let's make it interactive.
00:04:39.460 It doesn't have to be about something I'm talking about today.
00:04:42.280 It could be about something you guys want to talk.
00:04:44.780 But there's a lot.
00:04:47.260 I'll just go through quickly what I kind of have on my agenda.
00:04:50.340 I was gone for a week back in my hunting camp.
00:04:54.640 I asked John, the producer, what's on people's mind,
00:04:57.460 And I guess the trade war is definitely on people's minds.
00:04:59.700 So I want to talk about the trade war and some of the events that have occurred in the last couple of days.
00:05:05.000 And we got to prepare, right?
00:05:06.540 The big tariffs from Kearney go into effect next week on the 8th.
00:05:09.960 So I want to talk about the trade war.
00:05:11.500 Can't ignore the meme war that's going on.
00:05:15.400 Bank of Canada holding interest rates at 2.25.
00:05:18.860 Calgary, the big leak at City Hall yesterday.
00:05:21.260 Calgary, like, you know, the various departments presenting a 20% increase in spending.
00:05:28.900 That'd be ridiculous.
00:05:29.980 You can't have a 20% increase.
00:05:32.440 Elections Alberta kicking in their public relations campaign in overdrive.
00:05:36.260 Jason Kenney going after influencers, Lake America, and a few other things.
00:05:42.120 So let's steer it whichever way you guys want to go.
00:05:44.980 But before I go to just on the topic of trade wars, John, can you bring up, I think I talked about this a little bit last week, but John, bring up the picture of the USS Abraham Lincoln, please.
00:05:59.540 So this is the USS Abraham Lincoln, an American warship coming in for some rest and recreation R&R in Thailand.
00:06:11.780 It spent 285 days in the Gulf, protecting American interests, defending the Gulf of Hormuz.
00:06:21.140 You know, it's been on a mission for 285 days.
00:06:24.000 That's a long time.
00:06:25.220 And it was weird to see this week it created a bit of a storm online because people are so Trump derangement syndrome is so real, not just here in Canada, but even in the U.S.
00:06:37.180 And the American left, the attack, you know, showing this as an example of American failure because the vessel was rusted.
00:06:47.800 All right.
00:06:48.340 And so a rusted boat like that is not a sign of failure.
00:06:52.100 That's what happens when the American, you know, that boat was commissioned in like 1989, has been floating for 37 years, powered by a nuclear reactor, has a larger air force on that boat.
00:07:05.360 There's more planes on that boat than we have.
00:07:08.360 It didn't limp into port.
00:07:09.680 It came into port under its own power.
00:07:11.500 And that is wear and tear from a mission well done.
00:07:14.840 And 5,000 young soldiers on board now are going to get a break in Thailand.
00:07:19.380 And I think there's going to be some epic stories.
00:07:21.580 But I just found that whole thing.
00:07:23.340 I just wanted to show that Trump derangement, Donald Trump just does that to people. 0.69
00:07:29.040 It's crazy.
00:07:30.300 But if you think that that's a sign of failure, you're wrong.
00:07:33.760 That'd be like me saying, you know, that a boxer with bloody knuckles or a black eye after a fight is a lousy boxer.
00:07:43.120 No, that's not what that is.
00:07:44.700 So, and again, and I also want to show, so metaphorically speaking, there's people who have joked about, you know, a war with the U.S.
00:07:55.040 I would never want to be in a war with the U.S.
00:07:58.360 I've said it many, many times.
00:07:59.880 I don't like what's happening right now.
00:08:01.520 I find it a little bit disappointing, especially, you know, we've been allies.
00:08:06.580 I think there's a temporary misunderstanding that's getting escalated.
00:08:12.280 And I hope that we don't end up doing long-term damage because we've been neighbors for 200 years. 0.97
00:08:18.340 I would never want to fight Americans.
00:08:19.940 I consider them cousins, and we've been side-by-side with them forever.
00:08:24.980 Next week is the 25th year anniversary of 9-11.
00:08:29.600 and I hope that we can definitely set aside some of this rhetoric during that period
00:08:36.880 and remind ourselves of that strong relationship we've had for all those years.
00:08:42.300 But, all right, well, let's go back to the trade war then.
00:08:46.480 So there's a lot to unpack, and I want to start with something.
00:08:53.680 So, John, please put up a quick graph again.
00:08:55.980 And this is a graph that shows Canada's trade balance with other countries.
00:09:02.680 It's a crowded graph.
00:09:04.420 I actually put this together because this morning,
00:09:07.140 this data was released this morning by Stats Canada.
00:09:09.760 It's quarterly data that comes out.
00:09:14.340 And so the trade balance, Canada's, and this one goes back to about 40 years, right?
00:09:23.040 And so when the lines are on the top above, that means that those are years where the trade balance is the difference between our exports and our imports.
00:09:34.540 So when we export $500 billion worth of stuff in a year and we import $400, we get a balance.
00:09:42.320 We're positive.
00:09:43.500 And so anytime and right in the middle there is the black line.
00:09:47.000 So that's the zero line.
00:09:48.340 So anytime we're well above that line, we're in the trade balance.
00:09:52.120 We're selling more than we're taking.
00:09:55.920 And what that's showing that graph is the yellow, the thick yellow line is our overall trade balance.
00:10:03.300 And look at our trade balance.
00:10:04.740 The overall yellow line is going down and down and down and down and down.
00:10:09.760 So for the last 40 years, we've de-industrialized ourselves and we've gone into competition and selling things that almost everybody else makes.
00:10:18.680 and consequently we've we've we've thrown ourselves into a trade imbalance now the only reason it's
00:10:28.780 not more pronounced is because the thin brown line at the top is the u.s it's our balance just
00:10:34.400 with the u.s and you can see how it was i it drove down and then it came right back up and now it's
00:10:39.960 on its way down again and the only reason that's been on the upswing in the last four or five years
00:10:46.040 is because of our oil the americans need a lot of oil their economy is firing on all cylinders and
00:10:51.400 so they're buying oil from us via keystone and line five and other things and so temporarily
00:10:57.880 uh the the imbalance with the american is in our favor even though it had been declining quite a
00:11:03.640 bit and then and then near the end you see a couple of interesting things you see a couple of lines
00:11:09.720 that are getting more pronounced going down.
00:11:12.740 So that's China, that's the EU, and that's Mexico.
00:11:18.260 So those three trading partners, we're in an imbalance with them.
00:11:23.420 And Carney is putting us in a deeper imbalance
00:11:26.220 because he's making deals with the EU in places like that.
00:11:29.280 And those deals are not favorable to us.
00:11:31.740 And then lastly, there's only one purple line
00:11:33.920 that's really going up in that purple line,
00:11:36.780 and that's our trade balance with the uk so we're selling more to the uk than we're buying from them
00:11:43.100 which on the surface is a good thing but on the on the on the deeper uh look you realize oh smokes
00:11:51.020 that's all gold the brits have been have smartened up and they're using their paper currency which
00:11:57.100 is kind of worthless like everybody else's paper currency and they're buying our gold
00:12:01.180 so they're really strengthening our economy and we're being suckers and we're selling them gold
00:12:05.900 so i want to show that i just wanted to put that into context um this graph is and i've said this
00:12:12.540 to folks all the time right you can hear all the rhetoric that's going on by by on the mainstream
00:12:17.660 media and other places but go look at the data yourself and try and convince yourself right
00:12:22.620 are we winning a trade war the answer is no okay we're not winning the trade war right now
00:12:28.540 um so so let's so let's get rid of that graph for now and and and let me keep chatting on that
00:12:35.020 topic so we're not winning the trade war and um an existential trade war by the way you know we
00:12:42.620 should we should have parliament um reconvene but what happened last week is the deal got cancelled
00:12:51.500 apparently there was a deal uh on the table and the deal fell through at the you know at the 11th
00:12:58.940 hour there's all sorts of stories on the internet that there's interviews of ambassadors from the
00:13:04.380 the U.S. and trade negotiators from the U.S. and as Canadian representatives, and both
00:13:10.220 sides are arguing, I'm tending to believe the American side of this story, that there
00:13:17.580 was a deal and that we pulled the rug at the last minute, making all sorts of excuse to
00:13:23.300 do that i i would say it goes back to um trump being a boogeyman helps carney he just won three
00:13:36.900 by elections pretty much on that topic um and and he's going to milk that for all it's worth he's
00:13:42.820 got he can milk that for at least another two years and then after that trump uh is done or so
00:13:49.460 we think. I mean, legally, he can't do more than two terms. We've got the American midterms coming
00:13:54.540 up, and they'll be interesting to see. I think that in the American midterms, Trump is going to
00:14:01.120 surprise everyone and still come out strong. And at the end of the day, we started by talking about
00:14:09.700 that USS Abraham Lincoln. The Americans have bigger problems to worry about, right? They are
00:14:15.340 an enormous economy and they they're negotiating with all sorts of countries and and I would say
00:14:24.040 quite honestly we're a small potatoes for them sure they import from us a bunch of things like
00:14:28.800 oil and whatnot but not enough to like we are not as important to them as we like to think we are
00:14:36.380 and I think Donald's got bigger problems to worry about and then Donald this week played a couple
00:14:41.660 of interesting card. I mean, he played a really interesting card, which is he signed a deal with
00:14:46.320 Venezuela. And so he's going to start bringing in Venezuelan oil. That one caught me off guard a
00:14:51.460 little bit because I thought that the Venezuelan infrastructure had taken a real beating in the
00:14:56.720 last 30 years. And I didn't think that they'd be able to sort of turn around the oil patch in 0.99
00:15:01.780 Venezuela quickly. But I think I'm going to be proven wrong. And they're going to do that.
00:15:08.020 So that brings us then to very, very current events right now in the trade war.
00:15:14.080 So apparently we had a deal.
00:15:16.620 The deal didn't materialize.
00:15:20.040 I'm still, I'm one of those people who's like, I'd like to see the deal.
00:15:24.180 I don't know what the deal was, right?
00:15:25.460 We don't know.
00:15:26.040 Nobody knows.
00:15:26.840 I mean, like I said, both sides have been interviewed,
00:15:29.140 but nobody has actually seen the paper, the deal.
00:15:33.800 Was the dairy cartel on there?
00:15:35.180 Was the French language issue really on there?
00:15:37.740 Was it all simply Netflix or, you know, was it the banks?
00:15:41.180 Was it the airlines?
00:15:42.140 What was it?
00:15:42.780 What was the deal breaker?
00:15:44.180 I don't know.
00:15:44.780 I never saw the deal.
00:15:45.960 House of Commons is not sitting.
00:15:47.800 This is all being done unilaterally by, you know, by Carney and a handful of people.
00:15:52.660 So I don't know what the deal was.
00:15:54.480 What I do know is the tariffs are going to kick in in a couple of days on the 8th.
00:16:00.060 And all right, well, let's go.
00:16:02.800 I got a caller on the line.
00:16:05.180 Let me make a note.
00:16:06.400 So I was just about to talk about tariffs going in.
00:16:08.420 But go ahead, caller.
00:16:09.260 As always, too, where are you calling from?
00:16:11.180 What do you want to talk about?
00:16:12.400 And let's go from there.
00:16:13.860 So go ahead, caller.
00:16:16.360 Hey, Marty, it's Corey from Edmonton.
00:16:18.400 Just call me Edmonton, as they call it.
00:16:21.100 I just had a question about the tariffs thing and the whole Trump and Carney dynamic.
00:16:26.540 My question basically was, so twice now Carney has duped the public into Trump is the boogeyman.
00:16:33.040 And, you know, he's used it to his advantage to boost himself in the polls.
00:16:36.720 Even Doug Tore did it.
00:16:38.260 Realistically, how many times are they going to be able to do this trick before the mass psychosis, the hypnotized public starts crying wolf, you know what I mean?
00:16:51.140 Or starts, you know, seeing through the rhetoric.
00:16:54.960 Like, how many times do you think they can roll the dice on this realistically?
00:16:58.660 11 years worth, right?
00:17:00.180 I mean, Trudeau was doing the same thing.
00:17:02.000 Like, you know, you're preaching to me, to the choir, right?
00:17:06.560 I've been trying to expose that forever and ever.
00:17:09.180 And I'm like you.
00:17:10.220 I'm hoping that people will wake up.
00:17:12.420 How do you think people wake up?
00:17:14.180 Let me flip it back on you.
00:17:16.120 Like, do you, like.
00:17:18.680 Well, normally it's the pocketbook, right?
00:17:20.760 You hit the pocketbook and people tend to wake up.
00:17:23.560 But like, here's the thing, Marty.
00:17:25.200 I thought Drag Queen Story Hour was going to be the thing.
00:17:27.920 I thought that was going to be the thing that people were going to be up in arms.
00:17:30.880 They were going to be in the streets.
00:17:32.000 like no we can't do this i really did and then the next they push it further and further still
00:17:37.080 and further still it's astonishing just how much just how apathetic canadians can really be like
00:17:42.900 it's suicidal empathy at this point like my sister my grandmother are both as liberal as they come
00:17:47.900 and even when you try to approach it with diplomacy and and facts and reason and you try not to and
00:17:54.300 get escalated and yell and you try to remain very calm and you try to navigate the minefield that is
00:18:00.440 liberal logic and you try to get through to them with something even if you can see it sparking
00:18:06.020 and resonating with them a little bit it just seems like they that that what do they call it
00:18:10.960 agent smith syndrome kicks in and all of a sudden they just they become a different person and they
00:18:15.740 react purely on emotion and this is the one thing that i just can't seem to break through i i'm i'm
00:18:22.140 with you i share your frustration i mean i've you know uh the carbon taxes hit and their cost of
00:18:27.800 going on a trip to Cuba started being more expensive.
00:18:30.180 And I thought, okay, that'll be it for people.
00:18:32.000 Nope.
00:18:33.580 I thought, yeah, your kid's house is twice as expensive as it should be.
00:18:38.280 Nope, that's not it.
00:18:39.240 Groceries are expensive.
00:18:40.240 Nope, that's not it.
00:18:41.040 We seem to have a high tolerance for pain.
00:18:45.660 And I keep hoping, like, I'm actually even hoping that the tariffs that kick in
00:18:52.800 in a couple of weeks will add enough pain to make some people smarten up.
00:18:58.480 But, I mean, there's definitely a couple of things that are at play here, right?
00:19:03.360 We have about, you know, two out of every five workers in this country
00:19:09.920 work for one branch of government or another.
00:19:12.140 So they're kind of immune to the pain.
00:19:13.760 They got guaranteed jobs.
00:19:15.540 And then 40% never pay taxes and are net receivers from the government.
00:19:19.700 And I think and I think that there's a group now that I've just settled for less and they're happy.
00:19:27.260 Like and then let's not forget this group. Hang on. Hang on one second.
00:19:31.420 Let's not forget this group, too. We have brought in like millions of people from other countries.
00:19:37.560 I hear this all the time. They look at us and they go, why are you guys complaining?
00:19:41.200 Because they're happy. Right. Imagine you come to Canada from, I don't know, Somalia. Right.
00:19:46.440 India? 0.55
00:19:47.180 India, right? 1.00
00:19:48.100 A perfect example. 0.98
00:19:49.120 And they come here and they go, why are you guys complaining, man?
00:19:51.180 Like, I can have 43 people in a house and I can do this and do that and borrow money and have a big car and they're happy.
00:19:58.580 So there's been a transformation of our society, I think, is the answer. 0.98
00:20:05.620 Yeah, and maybe that's just it because I did see something recently saying that in about 10 years, the majority of Canada, if we stay on this trajectory, is going to be majority Indian. 0.99
00:20:15.540 um whether or not that's true or not you can look into that but i don't i don't doubt it based off
00:20:20.740 what i see you know they'll tell you it's only a small percentage of indians that are here but
00:20:25.180 when you go outside and you look around and you go places that doesn't exactly ring true to me
00:20:32.220 i'm just maybe i'm spiritual here i don't know i'm just saying it's awfully it's like i'm looking
00:20:37.620 through the windows or like i'm looking through the lights to think it windows when i walk around
00:20:41.260 Yeah, I mean, I think Edmonton is like, yeah, statistically, there is a change in the makeup of the country. I don't think it will be Indian per se. The change that worries me more is the fact that we, the change that worries me the most in our society is the fact that we have so many people working independent on government. 0.98
00:21:01.580 that's the change that i don't care what culture or what they are what bothers me is just how many
00:21:06.860 people like you said edmonton i mean i like i drive around edmonton and i can't believe how many uh
00:21:12.220 you know stay in canada signs i'm seeing and then i realize yeah because they work for the federal
00:21:17.340 government the provincial government the universities or something like that anyways i
00:21:22.140 appreciate the appreciate the call um how's the last thing how's the weather in edmonton today
00:21:27.500 it's raining like it's raining buddy it's just a it's just a metaphor for life and it's just gloom
00:21:36.620 awesome and doom but you know we're trying to rest above it and you know we're always trying
00:21:40.100 to do what we can support independence um you know we're trying to do what we can everywhere
00:21:44.420 trying to wake people up so uh i love what you're doing with the show buddy and i'll see you on next
00:21:48.820 man thank you cheers um actually before he leave uh before i go back to tariffs i just want to it's
00:21:55.720 my lap i want to show you guys something speaking of uh stay in in uh uh so this is my this is my
00:22:02.520 official ndp t-shirt and the ndp here in alberta is sort of stealing the uh ottawa logo right the
00:22:11.000 we stick with canada and uh and they got their hockey stick and how did i come about that shirt
00:22:16.600 i told you guys the story right so i joined i'm a member of the liberal party i'm a member of
00:22:21.800 other parties but i i joined uh uh naheed nenshi's uh for alberta for uh for canada or whatever the
00:22:31.560 heck his group is and then i've been going logging on and doing the things they want us to do right
00:22:36.840 like i've been promoting uh promoting the the movement and a couple of weeks ago they told
00:22:42.120 me i want a t-shirt and they gave me this free code well i ordered the t-shirt and then a couple
00:22:47.000 of days later they figured out who i was because i talked about it online so they mysteriously said
00:22:51.480 we're cancelling that order but uh i have more than one account with them right and so i get home
00:22:58.680 and uh and karen my wife says who's humongous because there's a package at the door for
00:23:04.440 humongous well that's my alter ego my second account so i'll wear this proudly at one of
00:23:09.720 their upcoming town halls uh go ahead caller where are you calling from what's your name please
00:23:13.880 oh hi marty it's gordon calling from edmonton uh wasn't there just a guy named gordon call
00:23:22.120 a second gordon from edmonton okay uh yeah no no i must be the second one okay yeah no the
00:23:30.600 reason we're calling by regards to the uh uh the trade war tariffs we're having here at with um
00:23:37.240 the U.S. And I was thinking somebody would do some more, like some reporting into some more
00:23:44.240 deeper stuff. Like when we were having trade negotiations, Mark Carney was on vacation in
00:23:50.780 Europe. Well, you can be sure he wasn't at the beach. He was consulting with all his WF
00:23:58.280 globalists, and they're all very, very concerned about Trump winning both houses in the midterms
00:24:07.180 Because they know that if he wins, they're toast.
00:24:11.000 He's already started attacking them through the financial system.
00:24:15.800 Already, Beset has been talking about how they're attacking them through the finances.
00:24:20.880 And they know that they're toast if he gets to win both houses because he's going to be unstoppable.
00:24:27.900 So let me ask you a quick question.
00:24:29.920 How closely do you follow American politics?
00:24:35.660 Quite a bit.
00:24:36.240 quite a bit okay so what's your thoughts does does trump uh sort of
00:24:43.200 keep control of the house and and win some of these midterms uh in in a couple of months or is
00:24:48.800 he what's what's your prediction oh no he's i believe my prediction is uh he's going to get
00:24:56.240 him he's doing very well uh they just knocked off for one of the stakes there that was uh
00:25:00.720 two Democrats, and, you know, he's going to do well.
00:25:04.940 The people are very happy.
00:25:05.960 You know, it's like in Canada.
00:25:09.540 The only people who are unhappy are the people who are going to be affected by change,
00:25:14.440 whether you're a politician, government worker.
00:25:16.740 It's the same thing in the U.S.
00:25:18.620 The people who are unhappy are the politicians who are going to be affected
00:25:22.180 when Trump wins both houses,
00:25:24.720 Because then they know that all the plans that he has for changing the American society, he's going to be unstoppable.
00:25:35.600 And a lot of people think, well, when Trump is gone in two years, you know, it'll be better.
00:25:41.360 I don't know about that.
00:25:43.000 When you've got guys like Vance and Rubio, one of those two guys is probably going to be the new president.
00:25:48.560 And I think they're more than Trump on steroids because those guys are true blue Republicans and true blue Americans.
00:25:59.380 Yeah, no, I appreciate the call. Thanks for calling.
00:26:02.560 And one interesting thing in the U.S. is I have lots of friends who've been down there recently, and it's obvious when you're down there that the Americans are doing well.
00:26:16.080 And so you can criticize and Americans are feeling it right. They're going, well, the criticism aimed at Trump in my daily life don't align because I'm actually doing good. And in Canada, it's the opposite. We're not making the link between our miserable lives and our government. It's fascinating. John, did I lose that caller and I got another caller already? Is that what it is? Okay, go ahead. Go ahead, caller.
00:26:42.460 hi Marty my name is Keith I've been listening for about two or three months I mean I worked
00:26:50.360 a night shift so I just happened to catch you live Marty do you mind if I switch topics for
00:26:55.680 a minute is that okay go ahead want to talk about this oh Marty why isn't anybody bringing up that
00:27:03.080 they're still promoting the COVID shot because I I have a personal story my mother was 94 in long
00:27:09.680 term care and um last uh may 11th my usually my family's away and i i would reject her getting
00:27:19.360 any boosters but this time it was overridden by a family member my mother went into palliative care
00:27:25.420 not the shot in the 11th without my knowledge went in palliative care on the on the 19th and
00:27:31.840 died june 5th and she was healthy her mind just her mobility was the reason she ended up in 93
00:27:38.140 in long-term care and all the all the nurses and all the people that worked in that facility
00:27:44.300 were required to get the booster even the workers and i'm and they're still calling it safe and i
00:27:50.620 don't understand what is going on in alberta that they're still promoting this as safe and that
00:27:55.020 they're requiring people to get it i you just you're upsetting me with your story yeah you're
00:28:00.780 upsetting me with your story right now i just got goosebumps i mean i don't know what you can like
00:28:05.420 short of moving her into another home i i need somebody else to pipe in on this like could you
00:28:12.220 not could you not give orders and and prevent that i don't know that sounds criminal i mean i i feel
00:28:18.300 for i don't i don't have an answer but i feel for you i i've been talking about this relentlessly
00:28:23.740 i don't know why people are still doing this i have no idea yes thanks marty i i just wanted
00:28:31.900 to bring it up i don't understand why the politicians in alberta or why the separate
00:28:36.860 separatist movement are not talking about this yeah yeah yeah thanks for calling keith uh sorry
00:28:44.940 to hear that but thanks for calling thank you thank you yeah that what another terrible story
00:28:51.660 i mean i i've you know if if if you're if you're 30 years old and you want to go get vaccinated
00:28:59.340 That's your choice. That's fine. I'm upset at the fact that there are still so many kids under the age of 18 that are being vaccinated, that are parents that are taking their kids and vaccinating their kids.
00:29:12.620 And I understand it's the law the parents allowed to choose. But I mean, there's so much evidence that shows that vaccinating a kid against COVID who's under the age of 18 and healthy is completely, totally unnecessary.
00:29:25.060 But there's still literally tens of thousands of people that do it.
00:29:29.040 But at the other extreme is like this caller is like Keith just said, what we're doing to me, to some of the people in old age, the number is high, right?
00:29:37.820 Across the board in Alberta, like a vaccine uptake is minuscule now.
00:29:42.540 It's under 10 percent, but it's in the 60 to 70 percent range in people over the age of 65 and 70.
00:29:49.280 And I know it's in old age homes and are being, I would dare say, vaccinated against their will.
00:29:54.560 i don't think they know and and if somebody has an idea for the caller like how do you stop that
00:29:59.760 i have no idea is there is like uh i have no idea it's it's it's so terrible um all right well
00:30:07.680 let me rush through the story on on tariffs then so american tariffs are kicking new tariffs are
00:30:12.720 kicking in on the 8th right and so these and these are tariffs we're imposing on ourselves
00:30:18.080 okay so carney is going to tax you for buying things from the us so he's going to tax you for
00:30:25.920 buying makeup furniture uh children's toys motorcycles farm equipment a few other things
00:30:35.520 like it's a long list i think there's 879 categories that kick in um in a couple of weeks
00:30:41.360 and again it's such a counterproductive thing to do like as an example let's uh let's say uh let's
00:30:50.780 say you were ready to buy a motorcycle and you're ready to buy a harley davidson motorcycle and it
00:30:56.220 used to be 25 000 bucks but now next week it gets a 50 tariff on it so the motorcycle jumps up from
00:31:02.980 25 000 to 40 000 bucks and so like now you pause and you go i'm not buying it okay so carney succeeded
00:31:11.100 in scaring you and you're not buying that motorcycle from the U.S.,
00:31:14.600 and then the U.S. is not going to hurt, right?
00:31:16.060 So if the U.S. doesn't sell you a motorcycle,
00:31:18.140 they'll sell it to somebody else.
00:31:19.980 But now you still have that money,
00:31:21.960 and you were willing to spend money on a motorcycle
00:31:24.360 and you're shopping around for a motorcycle.
00:31:26.980 Honda makes a motorcycle.
00:31:28.180 Honda says, hey, I'll sell you that $25,000 motorcycle
00:31:32.920 that you were ready to buy.
00:31:33.980 You think Honda is going to sell you the motorcycle for $25,000
00:31:36.860 if they know that the Harley Davidson ones all jumped up to $40,000?
00:31:40.840 No.
00:31:41.420 Honda, being a business, they'll sell you the same motorcycle.
00:31:44.420 They'll jack up their price.
00:31:45.460 They just won't jack them up as high as the tariffs.
00:31:47.980 So you either don't buy a motorcycle or you buy a motorcycle that's more expensive than it was a year ago or a week ago.
00:31:55.740 And carny pockets the difference.
00:31:57.820 And this is going to go on across the board.
00:31:59.700 So like furniture, small appliances are being affected by the tariffs in a couple of weeks, right?
00:32:08.280 So small appliance.
00:32:09.060 You buy a KitchenAid Mixmaster or I don't know if a television qualifies.
00:32:14.460 No, television is probably electronics.
00:32:15.880 But you buy a small freezer that was going to be made by Westinghouse in the U.S.
00:32:19.720 And now that little freezer comes with a tariff.
00:32:21.840 So you're going to have to buy a Heisen whatever made in China or made in Korea freezer.
00:32:27.920 So me personally, I've been taking pictures of a lot of for sale or a lot of sale items just to see how this all factors in.
00:32:36.120 but next week our lives become more expensive because we are going to shoot ourselves in the
00:32:43.400 foot and who gets the money from all these tariffs it goes to ottawa and then ottawa does like what
00:32:49.780 they did today they turn around and they spend that money um god i wasn't even going to talk
00:32:55.920 about the via rail announcement and i don't even want to talk about it because i still want to keep
00:33:00.100 talking about the the bigger picture on the trade war so so now we got this war going and um and i've
00:33:05.940 said this all along and like the the big losers in the trade war well I showed you on the graph
00:33:12.500 right so there's still a big huge trade balance with the U.S. because it's oil okay that's what
00:33:19.560 I wanted to come back to so Alberta's selling oil so we're unaffected by this and then um gold to
00:33:26.920 the UK who's mining gold there's a little bit in northern BC northern Saskatchewan northern Ontario
00:33:32.780 and northern Quebec, and that's okay, and then potash and sulfur and a bunch of things.
00:33:38.840 But then the deep Ontario economy, the auto manufacturing and all those groups are taking a beating.
00:33:45.460 So then Donald, not Donald Trump, Doug Ford this week, last week, he's twisting our arms.
00:33:53.100 It's not good enough that we send a ton of equalization money to Ontario and Quebec,
00:33:57.720 but now they want us to sacrifice our own economies
00:34:00.660 and they want to use Alberta's oil to squeeze the Americans.
00:34:07.620 And that's where we're at this week.
00:34:09.620 And I want John to play the clip about one minute
00:34:12.040 because Premier Smith, Danielle Smith, answered that question brilliantly.
00:34:19.360 Let me explain why.
00:34:20.960 And it's important that this be understood by every Canadian.
00:34:23.520 if if canada were to put let's say a 50 percent export tariff on the 4 million barrels of oil
00:34:32.880 that we export daily to the united states the united states would immediately respond with a
00:34:39.000 50 to 100 percent export tariff on oil and natural gas that they export to ontario along with
00:34:46.720 millions of barrels of diesel fuel and gasoline that ontario and quebec import from the midwest
00:34:52.640 this would bring the economies of ontario and quebec to a grinding halt meanwhile all those
00:34:59.240 refineries in the united states that currently use alberta's heavy oil would start looking to
00:35:03.760 venezuela for replacement heavy oil and reverse the pipelines northward to get it to midwest
00:35:09.020 refineries as a result we would lose so boy i don't know like she was it sounds like she was
00:35:16.920 peering into a crystal ball she wasn't peering into a crystal ball she's just well informed and
00:35:21.600 understands realities and and she's being an adult in the room and explaining things um and and but
00:35:29.040 but i you know she sounds like she's looking into a crystal ball because what happened even though
00:35:32.880 we didn't even threaten and we might have maybe trump got word that uh we were going to do
00:35:39.120 something like this so he he he he was proactive he already signed a deal with venezuela which
00:35:46.640 makes me nervous like i said because he can now bring in uh the venezuelan oil and reverse the
00:35:53.280 pipelines and feed his refineries in the midwest and whatnot with venezuelan oil i personally i
00:35:58.880 think that the economy of the u.s is so booming that they need our oil and venezuelan oil they
00:36:04.320 need it all so so at the end of the day i'm still not worried about that but in the short term it
00:36:10.160 could have a minor impact and then but then she also talked about the fact that most canadians
00:36:15.600 had no idea that this is a fact right alberto oil goes down to the u.s and then comes back up through
00:36:20.320 like the michigan peninsula and line five and into the in into ontario that way and sort of out of
00:36:27.760 just sheer coincidence maybe maybe not line five went down last week right there was an they were
00:36:33.360 they were doing they were shut down to do some maintenance some repairs but then some truck
00:36:37.200 backed in and hit some and there was there was a bigger impact on line five and and what happened
00:36:44.400 instantly there's there's a convergence if you look at the price i fueled up for uh i fueled up
00:36:50.960 in uh stony plain coming back from up north uh two days ago and i paid a buck a buck twenty five nine
00:36:58.800 one two five point nine for uh gasoline in stony plain which is crazy right and so i'll like the
00:37:06.640 war in the war in the gulf is settling down the boats are coming home everything's getting okay
00:37:12.480 And our prices of gasoline are coming down.
00:37:16.400 Ontario's is going like this right now.
00:37:18.040 And there's this huge divergence because of Line 5.
00:37:21.400 So go ahead, call her name and where are you from, please.
00:37:26.520 Hey, Marty, it's James 7 calling your name.
00:37:29.520 How are you?
00:37:31.200 Can you hear me?
00:37:32.140 Yeah, yeah, I can hear you.
00:37:32.900 Go ahead.
00:37:33.140 Can I do that?
00:37:34.020 Go ahead.
00:37:34.320 Can I call and say some mean things about Canadians today?
00:37:40.320 Repeat that, please.
00:37:41.280 I didn't hear it. 0.99
00:37:42.480 I figured I'd call and take some mean things from our Canadians today. 0.99
00:37:46.980 Okay, go ahead. 1.00
00:37:47.980 I'm kind of done with them on their craft.
00:37:49.980 You're allowed to say two mean things, not too many.
00:37:52.480 I'm sorry.
00:37:53.480 I'm sorry.
00:37:54.480 I'm sorry.
00:37:55.480 I'm sorry.
00:37:56.480 I'm sorry.
00:37:57.480 I'm sorry.
00:37:58.480 I'm sorry.
00:37:59.480 I'm sorry.
00:38:00.480 I'm sorry.
00:38:01.480 I'm sorry.
00:38:02.480 I'm sorry.
00:38:03.480 I'm sorry.
00:38:04.480 I'm sorry.
00:38:05.480 I'm sorry.
00:38:06.480 I'm sorry.
00:38:07.480 from the independent i understand but premier smith seems to be the last politician who
00:38:13.240 understands what diplomacy is and i think doug could learn some things uh
00:38:25.000 listen that's good i i appreciate the call i i i got a bit of a bad line but i i got the
00:38:30.840 gist of what you're saying thanks for calling fair enough not a great signal have a good one
00:38:35.800 Cheers. So, all right, we're probably going to change topics.
00:38:40.980 But, you know, so Danielle is spot on and we cannot.
00:38:45.000 And by the way, cutting off the oil to the U.S. would kind of be an act of war, right?
00:38:50.580 I mean, that's how World War II started between the U.S. and Japan when Americans cut off their oil.
00:38:55.880 Like you do not cut off critical infrastructure like that.
00:38:59.700 But, yeah, those were, so Danielle is being the adult in the room, which is more than I can say about a lot of the other politicians, which I guess is a good segue to, I mean, which we were going to talk about the meme war.
00:39:16.900 The best part of the meme war would be if we were able to share a bunch of memes.
00:39:20.700 And I don't want to do that.
00:39:21.720 You guys have seen the memes, right?
00:39:23.360 But Mark Carney, how did this start, right?
00:39:27.080 So a couple of days ago, Mark Carney was being interviewed and he said, like, in light of all of this, are you going to restart the negotiations?
00:39:35.260 And he doesn't want to.
00:39:36.940 OK, he doesn't want to start the negotiations.
00:39:39.580 It's not in his best interest right now.
00:39:41.660 He's doing he's working his other agenda.
00:39:44.260 He's pretending he's he's he's distancing us from the Americans.
00:39:48.740 He's going to get us cozy with the with the EU and other places.
00:39:52.960 is and then he gets to execute his plan which is uh by canadian for canadians and uh you know he
00:40:00.720 decides that's in his book values it's right there in black and white and now we're seeing it right
00:40:05.440 like when somebody tells you what they're going to do believe them so carney told you in 695 pages
00:40:10.900 in his book he told you that he's a a small c capitalist uh but he he believes in capitalism
00:40:18.480 capitalism when he chooses the winners and losers and lately he's been picking some pretty doozy
00:40:24.180 losers right i mean uh today he went up to thunder bay and he announced 4.7 billion dollars to buy
00:40:31.340 i don't know 316 uh cars for via for via rail via rail is a crown corporation that loses about 300
00:40:40.920 million dollars a year so it's a it's a it's a non-profitable crown corporation if carney was
00:40:47.500 a capitalist he'd sell via rail let the private sector get in there and run it at a profit but
00:40:52.420 instead canada is going to continue down this path of nationalizing things and and taking tax
00:40:58.720 dollars that we don't even have borrowed money and then spending it on things like things that
00:41:05.500 we don't need like icebreakers apparently when the world is warming up icebreakers that'll never
00:41:10.780 get built but you see what happens right carney's going around buying votes so he's promising things
00:41:16.640 spending money that we don't have to buy things that we don't need that could be better spent by
00:41:21.820 the private sector that are more expensive than necessary he's picking the winners and losers
00:41:26.160 and he's doing his thing and he's getting re-elected for doing that people buy it people
00:41:31.700 applaud it okay people applaud it because 40 percent of canadians don't pay taxes and those
00:41:38.360 that do it's a very small minority and then and then and then there's a ton of people on the
00:41:43.020 payroll directly whether it's OAS or CPP and then there's a ton of people on the payroll literally
00:41:50.020 that work for the government in one way or another so it's we're nationally like we are going down
00:41:55.800 that path and it's almost too late which brings like I didn't even expect to go here which brings
00:42:01.180 me back to why I'm an Alberta separatist because we have to save Alberta the last bastion of
00:42:05.940 common sense with people like Danielle Smith and and our leaders on the independence movement
00:42:10.800 And then the last place where capitalism still rules and free markets and we're not, you know, infected by this insanity of wokeism that's happening out east.
00:42:22.500 So Carney doesn't want to go back to the table to negotiate, but he but, you know, he joked about it.
00:42:30.660 He's like, I'll go back as soon as the Americans become serious and stop making memes about me and throwing shades and a few other things.
00:42:38.600 Well, that just became hilarious, right?
00:42:41.300 So I wish we could share a few of those,
00:42:44.440 but there was memes galore on the internet
00:42:47.200 and everybody's got their favourites.
00:42:50.320 And that's the market responding.
00:42:52.640 I don't think we will see Carney back
00:42:55.480 at the negotiation table anytime soon.
00:42:58.360 I might be wrong.
00:42:59.980 Well, he might have to go back because I believe,
00:43:05.460 sorry, let me put it this way.
00:43:06.500 I do believe that he will have to go back
00:43:08.480 Because as some of the callers called in, I honestly think life's about to get really, really, really, really expensive for Canadians.
00:43:16.740 Like we're going to we can we can play tough and we can, you know, say we're going to boycott Americans and do this.
00:43:24.160 But they're 13 times bigger.
00:43:25.860 They're more powerful than us.
00:43:27.340 They are well diversified.
00:43:28.980 They depend on us far less than we depend on them.
00:43:32.740 And if they decide to, they can fight a war of attrition against us, an economic war for a long time, and we will suffer.
00:43:42.200 And I think we're about to start suffering.
00:43:44.340 So we should have probably taken a deal because eventually we're going to be forced into taking the deal.
00:43:49.920 And I think the deal is get rid of the dairy cartels, sacrifice some of the banks, and allow American airlines to fly domestically within Canada.
00:43:58.620 So I think reality is about to hit us hard and we're going to see it in the next couple of months.
00:44:05.060 And I think even Carney knows it, which is why today or yesterday he announced that, you know,
00:44:10.480 the fuel tax on gasoline was supposed to be reinstated because he took it off for the summer.
00:44:16.080 And now he's like, we're going to leave it. We're going to leave it off for a little bit longer.
00:44:20.440 That's because he has no choice, man, because if he if he left like gasoline is one of the biggest drivers of inflation
00:44:26.700 and the inflation numbers are at 3%.
00:44:28.620 And I think next month and the month after,
00:44:30.380 they're going to be higher and higher.
00:44:31.640 So I think Canadians as a whole, get ready, folks.
00:44:34.680 You're in for a lot of pain in the next couple of months
00:44:37.280 as this tariff war drags on.
00:44:41.680 And our stubbornness is going to cost you and I.
00:44:46.000 It won't cost Carney and others.
00:44:48.880 And I was going to talk just on the weird trade war.
00:44:53.580 I guess you guys, you know, I was gone while this happened,
00:44:56.540 But this was hilarious. I mean, I thought it was a joke that Donald Trump was renaming Lake Ontario Lake America.
00:45:04.600 I guess he did it. And I guess the other side lost their mind on it.
00:45:08.720 And I think it would have been funnier if he named it Lake Trump, although I think there's already a Lake Trump.
00:45:13.800 But folks, again, chill, chill.
00:45:16.440 It is there are places all over the planet where certain geographic features like mountains and straits and lakes have two names when they're on a border.
00:45:25.800 Right. You go to Nepal and you see Mount Everest, you know, it's bordered by China and Tibet and Nepal, let's say.
00:45:34.180 And the Nepalese call it one thing, the Chinese call it something else and the Tibetans call it something else.
00:45:40.680 And you've got lots of places like that all over the world.
00:45:43.280 So it would not be unusual if a lake like Lake Ontario was called Lake Ontario on the Canadian side and called Lake something else on the other side.
00:45:50.880 There's nothing unusual about that, but it just shows how the rhetoric in the last weeks got pretty crazy.
00:45:59.560 And ultimately, I would like to see it calm down a little bit because, like I said, it's you and I that are going to hurt.
00:46:10.040 I still have time, eh, John?
00:46:11.720 I got about, where's the clock here?
00:46:15.980 I got about 10 minutes or so.
00:46:17.460 Okay, cool.
00:46:17.900 So, yeah, as I suspected, I knew that the time was going to go by quickly.
00:46:25.480 Where do I go next?
00:46:27.820 I got, well, here's where.
00:46:29.760 Actually, I want to talk about this for a second.
00:46:34.120 How many people got this in the mail this week if you live in Alberta, right?
00:46:38.760 This is, I've been in Alberta my whole life just about and I've been through many elections
00:46:43.640 and i've never seen uh elections alberta so nervous about an upcoming election or referendum
00:46:50.600 to the point where they sent us this this is like this is a 14 page document uh voting in alberta
00:46:59.400 and um i i guess it's in preparation for the upcoming referendum are they trying to make
00:47:05.800 things more efficient by by uh getting ready or they or is there something else going on
00:47:11.720 I mean I found this fascinating did you know that you can get services from
00:47:16.160 Elections Alberta in 27 languages if you show up if you show up and it's all
00:47:21.400 detailed in here if you show up at the you know and it talks about ways to vote
00:47:25.500 mail-in ballots advanced voting on the election day it shows up it shows how to
00:47:32.000 how to how to mark a ballot like do we have that many people that are new to
00:47:37.120 the province who've never been in an election that we have to um to show this and all the tools
00:47:43.240 available to you like barrier-free voting assistance marking your ballot i mean if you
00:47:48.780 can't mark your ballot you can ask for an elections officer you can ask for a ballot in braille you
00:47:54.520 can ask for a ballot with uh like you can ask for the ballot to be translated like this is bonkers
00:48:00.320 and uh i kind of i in a sense i i don't know what to make of this maybe maybe you guys some
00:48:06.940 have some ideas on this or maybe maybe i'm just overthinking this and uh and this is just elections
00:48:12.620 alberta but but there's also this page here that i find really interesting which is and i know and
00:48:19.820 actually they don't want me they don't want us commentators sort of making fun of them so i guess
00:48:25.580 i'm i'm i'm maybe pushing the rules a little bit but they have a whole page on elections integrity
00:48:32.140 right and and i've said this before like the more somebody tries to convince me that they're by the
00:48:37.740 book and everything is okay and and ethical and legal and moral and and transparent the more i
00:48:43.740 get suspicious so maybe that's me that's the little suspicious side of me that's like why are they
00:48:49.180 doing this why are they feeling like they need to go over the top and convince us that uh that
00:48:54.140 that everything is hunky-dory.
00:48:58.240 All right, well, I'll try and stretch this last little bit.
00:49:03.900 Well, actually, let me go there because we kind of touched on it.
00:49:10.700 No, we didn't touch on it.
00:49:12.320 Bank of Canada, so we had by-elections on Monday.
00:49:15.420 We have the trade war.
00:49:16.840 We have all sorts of things.
00:49:17.900 And then we have the Bank of Canada comes out in the middle of all of this
00:49:21.220 and announces that they're keeping the rate, the overnight rate,
00:49:24.820 they call it steady at 2.25.
00:49:27.500 So 2.25.
00:49:30.220 So that's seven.
00:49:31.400 The bank meets eight times a year, roughly every two months
00:49:35.020 or every six weeks, and then they adjust the rate.
00:49:38.420 Well, they haven't adjusted the rate in seven sessions in a row now.
00:49:42.300 So it's been, you know, almost just over a year
00:49:45.740 that we've been at 2.25.
00:49:47.480 and Tim Macklin goes out of the commissioner
00:49:52.560 or the governor of the Bank of Canada
00:49:55.020 does this press conference
00:49:56.320 and then he talks about how inflation is
00:50:00.880 above the target range of 2%, stuck at 3%,
00:50:04.760 lots of uncertainty with the price of fuel
00:50:07.360 and stuff like that, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:50:09.420 And basically signals that the economy is in trouble
00:50:16.660 but at the same time, he's sending mixed signals
00:50:20.960 because when you keep the bank rate low like that,
00:50:26.640 you're basically trying to add supply
00:50:30.140 to the whole supply and demand side
00:50:34.100 and you're trying to kickstart the economy
00:50:38.180 is what you're doing.
00:50:39.120 If the economy was really, really good,
00:50:41.020 you want to slow it down a little bit
00:50:43.320 and increase the interest rates.
00:50:46.660 And behind the scenes, what we call corporate bonds and government bonds and other bonds are going up slowly.
00:50:55.640 And that, you know, once in a while, those are the important things, right?
00:50:58.400 If the bank's going one way, but the private sector is going another, who are you going to believe, right?
00:51:03.600 The thousands of investors, not the thousands, the millions of investors that make up the private sector and the market, we call it, or the guy from the Bank of Canada.
00:51:13.100 and um and so just just pay attention to that folks it's a mixed signal and again i think
00:51:20.660 who benefits from a low interest rate more than anybody else it's the government of canada because
00:51:26.480 they got to service that debt right now and they're supposed to be an arm's length relationship
00:51:30.620 between the governor of the bank of canada and the prime minister of canada and i'm not sure that
00:51:36.640 that that that that that arm's length is exactly there and i think tiff is between a rock and a
00:51:43.180 hard place and he's keeping interest low interest rates low which helps a few consumers the ones
00:51:49.340 who are about to renew their mortgages but more than anybody else it helps the government of
00:51:54.360 canada with its debt servicing and its ability to issue more currency and do the things it wants to
00:52:00.300 do and spend so um i found that that whole thing interesting and and again so when you look at all
00:52:08.140 the pieces together i think i'm i'm it's no secret i think the country's going in a bad direction
00:52:14.880 and i'm starting to feel it but i don't know why more people don't feel it um all right what have
00:52:24.160 got last here last thing i wanted to talk about is is independence i'll i'll do my i'll talk a
00:52:30.320 little bit about independence so uh the vote on independence the referendum is on october 19th
00:52:36.320 so that's coming up where it's less than 60 days away we did say everybody take a break relax
00:52:44.400 re-energize i get asked that question a lot is there going to be uh how's the push going to be
00:52:50.320 in the in the next couple of weeks i think you're going to see a really strong push now to get those
00:52:59.360 voters you know they're like i said there's the 30 voters that are they're they're not interested
00:53:04.560 they're stay in canada the guys that wear these shirts that's 30 there's a 30 in my camp the
00:53:10.800 hardcore people that are already decided no matter what they they they want to kick at independence
00:53:16.320 and then there's that middle 40 so we got to convince that middle 40 in the next 50 days um
00:53:23.360 and i think we're going to see that start in earnest right away here and and interestingly
00:53:30.400 now the um you know now's when you see all the polls and all the surveys that are going to come
00:53:35.760 out and all the attacks are going to start getting vicious and and i just wanted to single out one
00:53:41.520 weird thing uh going on right now jason kenney okay jason kenney jason kenney who got 51 percent
00:53:49.840 in his last um leadership review and and stepped down because 51 wasn't enough jason kenney is now
00:53:59.360 paired up with rachel notley right jason kenney and rachel notley are now co-chairs of a of an
00:54:07.760 upcoming conference to be held in ottawa of all places by the federal chamber of commerce so
00:54:16.400 they're not holding a conference in alberta two former alberta premieres or co enemies
00:54:22.720 sworn enemies are now in the same camp holding a conference in ottawa put on by the chamber of
00:54:30.000 commerce the federal commerce to try and convince people in ottawa that alberta should stay in
00:54:35.600 confederation the whole thing's a joke but but what i want to just bring out is that uh i said
00:54:42.000 this all along right independence is a real threat to carney carney it's so much of a threat to carney
00:54:50.800 that he signed the mou sacrificing poor steven gilbo and sacrificing some of his support in uh
00:54:57.120 in quebec at least i thought he was sacrificing some support in quebec i guess the by-election
00:55:01.840 shows otherwise uh that that he can he can sacrifice uh he can sacrifice some support
00:55:09.440 in quebec in order to keep the country together so he's he he's doing the right thing from his
00:55:16.080 point of view but independent but he it is independence is a threat to carney and it's
00:55:20.320 made some interesting bedfellows right so we had carney we had danielle smith who's who's against
00:55:25.360 independence naheed nenshi um um the the list goes on right and and now well we always had uh
00:55:35.120 jason kenney which i think was unusual and now we got rachel notley so it's making for some really
00:55:40.120 interesting bedfellows that are getting together that are fighting alberta independence i i'm i'm
00:55:49.180 i'm glad still at this point that there isn't a single leader in the alberta independence movement
00:55:55.040 because, you know, that person would be attacked viciously
00:55:59.340 because the two sides, it's unfair.
00:56:02.920 But pay attention to that, right?
00:56:04.520 I've been saying that.
00:56:06.560 And the part that I hate to admit now is
00:56:09.120 I resisted folks who kept talking about the uniparty,
00:56:14.300 federally speaking, that they're all part of the same group. 1.00
00:56:17.460 But now I'm almost having to believe it
00:56:19.980 when I'm seeing it with my own eyes,
00:56:21.880 how they're all ganging up and collaborating together.
00:56:25.840 I mean, I did not have that on my bingo card.
00:56:28.340 I did not have Jason Kenney and Rachel Nartley shaking hands,
00:56:33.540 almost embracing each other and holding a conference against Alberta
00:56:37.180 Independence. I did not have that on my bingo card.
00:56:40.400 And then aside from that, watching Jason Kenney online,
00:56:45.040 some of you are probably not online,
00:56:46.600 but watching Jason Kenney online systematically attack so many
00:56:50.660 conservative influencers he came after me a while ago and I guess he realized I wasn't going worth
00:56:57.140 going after because I don't support Pierre Poiliev right but now any any strong conservative 0.80
00:57:04.600 influencer the Mark Nixons of the world the Jasmine Lanes the the the pleb those folks 0.87
00:57:11.460 they're being attacked so the conservative influencers who support Pierre Poiliev they're
00:57:16.380 being attacked hard by carney so carney is playing a double agenda right now he's a defender of 0.90
00:57:21.620 canada he's against alberta independence which i think makes him a bit of a hypocrite and i think
00:57:27.160 he's seriously taking a run at uh pierre poiliev and i think that's something we'll probably end 0.79
00:57:31.520 up talking a lot more in the coming weeks but the knives are out for poiliev especially after this
00:57:35.860 uh triple defeat on the weekend uh with the by-elections and whatnot so maybe maybe maybe
00:57:41.720 You know what?
00:57:42.380 I'm going to put that down.
00:57:43.800 I'm going to put that down for next week.
00:57:45.740 It's Pierre Dunn.
00:57:47.740 Let's make that the topic next week.
00:57:49.280 Hey, folks, the hour went by fast as I expected.
00:57:52.040 John, can you give me a thumbs up?
00:57:54.560 Am I right in saying that the firewall or the paywall is down right now
00:57:58.880 for the Western Standard and people can – oh, it's still up?
00:58:02.680 Or –
00:58:03.780 We're doing – okay.
00:58:06.680 So we're trying to raise –
00:58:10.480 So, you know, the Western Standard, like I've said every week,
00:58:13.360 depends on subscriptions from folks like you to keep bringing this content,
00:58:18.100 to bring the stories that nobody else is bringing you, right?
00:58:20.400 And again, to the colleagues here, the stories they're breaking are absolutely amazing.
00:58:25.880 It's behind the paywall.
00:58:27.300 So, yes, it's a $10 a month subscription or $100 a year and gets you all the great content.
00:58:34.980 But because Alberta independence is so important
00:58:37.580 And because there's so many great stories on Alberta independence being brought to you by the staff here at the Western Standard,
00:58:46.380 we're raising money to be able to sort of temporarily remove the firewall for, you know, I guess a couple of weeks,
00:58:56.620 maybe a month during this campaign period to bring you those important stories about why Alberta independence is the only path forward.
00:59:06.740 So, all right, folks, a great show.
00:59:08.640 Thanks for those of you who called in.
00:59:10.940 Thanks for watching.
00:59:12.100 Thanks for the comments.
00:59:13.500 And I hope to see you here next week, same time, Thursdays at 1 p.m.
00:59:18.860 Have a great weekend, folks.
00:59:36.220 We'll be right back.
