00:00:00.000 Okay, I'm Corey Morgan coming from the Western Standard booth at the firearms show at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex here in Calgary.
00:00:08.300 It's been a great event, just jam-packed with thousands of people, lots of firearms, lots of people exercising their rights.
00:00:14.360 And I've only seen, though, one and only Conservative Party of Canada candidate, though, Joseph Borgol has shown up and he's here enjoying firearms and firearm rights today, are you?
00:00:24.620 Yeah, it's a great show. This is the first time I've been to this one in Alberta.
00:00:28.820 I'm a firearms owner myself. I have a restricted license.
00:00:33.120 I grew up with firearms and in general, you know, I'm very supportive of property rights and gun ownership.
00:00:41.560 And I'm, you know, pretty much 100% opposed to the Liberal Order and Council restricting, trying to restrict 1,500 categories of firearms.
00:00:53.740 We don't need more controls on firearms. In my lifetime, I've not observed any problems with firearms owners.
00:01:03.160 All the problems appear to be it's about the people who own the firearms.
00:01:07.800 If the criminals get a hold of them, that's really the problem.
00:01:10.220 And I feel that that's where the focus needs to be on, you know, preventing firearms from getting in the hands of people who have criminal intent.
00:01:20.320 Well, that's it. I mean, the criminal intent, the firearms, the criminals aren't here today.
00:01:24.400 They're getting them smuggled across the border.
00:01:26.020 They're getting them from robbing people's homes, things such as that.
00:01:29.160 They're not coming to a firearms show to get these things.
00:01:30.960 Exactly. No, you're exactly right.
00:01:33.520 And as I'm, you know, walking about, speaking to people, that's, you hear that over and over again.
00:01:40.600 You know, it's, it's, the problem isn't firearms owners.
00:01:44.540 The problem is that we have to have laws.
00:01:47.960 And that's why we have police, you know, to go after people that are committing crimes,
00:01:53.480 whether robbery or more serious crimes with firearms.
00:01:57.320 And that's where our focus, our federal government focus needs to be,
00:02:02.040 not on hassling and restricting firearms for legal qualified gun owners who have taken the,
00:02:09.840 passed the, you know, the, the record checks and the, and who have the gun safety training.
00:02:17.980 Let's stop hassling our gun owners in this country.
00:02:20.700 It's a huge industry, over $12 billion, employing over 30,000 people.
00:02:25.440 So why are, why are our governments hassling gun owners?
00:02:30.380 Absolutely.
00:02:30.980 So, I mean, it's clear what you would like to do and what you'd like to see the Conservative Party of Canada do
00:02:34.880 in rolling back Trudeau's ridiculous recategorization of firearms,
00:02:38.220 the chasing of law, buying firearm owners.
00:02:40.360 What could we implement, though, to prevent future governments?
00:02:42.720 That's what I worry about.
00:02:43.540 You know, you get one government does one thing.
00:02:45.900 The next government comes in and rolls it all back.
00:02:47.920 Are there ways we can entrench some rights?
00:02:49.760 Well, you know, I think Alberta does a better job than any other province.
00:02:54.920 It's all about education.
00:02:56.840 If we're educated from the time we're young children, through the schools and through,
00:03:01.880 like, the Alberta firearms training group there,
00:03:07.380 the more educated people are to understand their rights.
00:03:10.800 That's obviously the best protections.
00:03:13.180 We have laws.
00:03:14.060 We have the Charter Rights and Freedoms,
00:03:15.580 and yet it's being trampled on by this Liberal NDP coalition.
00:03:20.020 So, just having laws doesn't protect us,
00:03:23.120 although I wouldn't have any problem with, you know, strengthening the laws in the country.
00:03:28.540 The property ownership rights would be one,
00:03:31.560 and I think, you know, guns, firearms, that's a property rights issue,
00:03:39.060 which belongs with the provinces.
00:03:41.400 And so, if we could get legislation through at the federal level,
00:03:47.420 recognizing that, that would be another way to entrench rights,
00:03:52.200 the rights of property owners, firearms owners.
00:03:55.880 You know, so that would be some of the thoughts that I would have about that.
00:03:59.640 But obviously, the only way we're going to protect our country from having our rights,
00:04:04.580 our God-given rights and freedoms taken away,
00:04:06.780 is by educating our public,
00:04:10.720 making sure that our children are being educated,
00:04:13.780 and adults are being educated,
00:04:15.740 that governments do not have a right
00:04:17.640 to take away our God-given rights and freedoms,
00:04:20.640 as they have been doing.
00:04:22.320 So, it ultimately boils down to Canadians electing honest, truth-seeking politicians
00:04:27.060 who are going to stand up for your rights and freedoms.
00:04:29.480 And that's why I got into the race.
00:04:31.820 I know I'm, you know, I'm not on the public stage until I got into this race,
00:04:38.200 so I'm not well-known.
00:04:39.580 But I'm an honest, truth-seeking, principled, fiscal and social conservative,
00:04:44.580 and that's why I'm in this race.
00:04:46.160 I'm tired of seeing incompetent and immoral, corrupt politicians running our country.
00:04:54.360 Well, I'm as tired as you are, absolutely.
00:04:56.420 So, I appreciate you coming out here today.
00:04:57.860 I mean, as I said, we're not seeing any conservative candidates out today.
00:05:00.540 That's unfortunate.
00:05:01.660 I mean, this is a great day when people are exercising their rights
00:05:04.040 and getting out and enjoying firearms responsibly, as most of us do.
00:05:07.860 So, I appreciate your standing up for that.
00:05:09.640 Where can we find more information about yourself and your campaign?
00:05:12.540 You can go to my website, www.josephborgo.ca.
00:05:18.200 And under there, you can read the vision,
00:05:21.100 the core values and principles, and the policies that I stand for.
00:05:24.420 And in general, as far as gun ownership goes,
00:05:28.640 I'm supportive of it because I grew up with it.
00:05:32.380 And so, I want to see our government stop hassling our gun owners.
00:05:37.060 I think it's a property right.
00:05:39.300 And so, I'm supportive of the gun owners throughout the country.
00:05:44.700 Great. Well, thanks for coming out and talking to us today.
00:05:47.440 And we'll be watching the campaign develop with interest.
00:05:49.860 Okay. Thank you very much, Corey.
00:05:51.520 Thank you.
00:05:52.120 Thank you.
