00:00:00.000 So my name is Chris, K-R-I-S, last name Sims, S-I-M-S. I'm the Alberta Director for the Canadian
00:00:06.220 Taxpayers Federation. We're here today in front of a beautiful gas station here in Calgary,
00:00:12.120 highlighting the fact that Albertans are paying plenty in gas taxes. All told, this year,
00:00:18.940 on average, we are paying 29 cents per liter of gasoline. Now, this is actually a good gas tax
00:00:27.700 honesty day because we have some amazing news. This is a lot cheaper than it ever used to be
00:00:34.820 for years and years. That's because the consumer carbon tax is gone. It truly is gone. You know,
00:00:43.760 I was actually using last year's news release as a template because I wanted to make sure the
00:00:48.600 formatting was great and I was blown away by how much money people are saving. So a big rig truck
00:00:54.920 driver now, without the carbon tax anymore, is saving about $200 every time he or she fills up
00:01:03.740 with diesel. That's remarkable. So if you look behind me and you see how much the price of gasoline is,
00:01:09.980 that's about 20 cents cheaper than it was here this time last year. Thereabouts. Some folks in
00:01:17.600 different parts of Canada are seeing higher prices for different reasons. But generally speaking,
00:01:21.800 most Canadians are saving 20 cents per liter of gasoline this summer. And that's because normal
00:01:29.280 working people said no to the carbon tax. I wanted to take a moment to say how proud we are
00:01:36.180 of the average hard-working Canadian for standing up to the elites, especially in Ottawa, and saying,
00:01:43.520 no, we're done. We don't want the carbon tax anymore. You know, we were all told a few years ago
00:01:49.380 by places like the Globe and Mail. This fight is over. The carbon tax is here forever. The carbon tax
00:01:55.320 is here to stay. Now that the Erin O'Toole Conservatives have signed on, case closed. Well,
00:02:01.340 it wasn't. It wasn't closed for regular people because the carbon tax was costing an average family
00:02:08.640 minivan fill-up an extra $13. It was costing that pickup truck an extra $20 every time that guy filled up
00:02:16.860 to go to work. It was costing him 20 extra dollars. It's gone now. So this is truly a victory for
00:02:23.960 taxpayers across Canada.
