In this episode, Ms. Chass talks about the alarming increase in auto theft across the country, and especially in the GTA, and the government's new plan to crack down on auto theft and protect the people here in Brampton.
00:00:00.000In recent years, we have seen an overwhelming and frankly unacceptable increase in auto theft
00:00:09.600across the country, and especially right here in Ontario in the GTA. Every single one of us
00:00:18.300as an MP has heard about this from our constituents, and it is not acceptable.
00:00:26.420Auto theft hurts Canadians. It creates unnecessary costs by burdening people with higher insurance
00:00:34.820rates on top of the stress, the trauma of having your vehicle stolen, of having to replace it,
00:00:44.360and it makes Canadians feel unsafe in their communities. That is not okay. That is not fair.
00:00:56.420No one should have to worry about their means of getting to work, school, or the grocery store,
00:01:02.780and having that car stolen from them. And that is why, in the budget, we have put in place a robust
00:01:12.680plan to crack down on auto theft and to protect Canadians, to protect the people here in Brampton.
00:01:22.040Our Budget Implementation Act includes measures such as providing law enforcement and prosecutors
00:01:29.000with the tools they need to protect Canadians from having their cars stolen. Specifically,
00:01:36.200this includes more robust criminal offenses relating to auto theft and new restrictions on the possession
00:01:45.280and distribution of devices used to steal vehicles. This is about taking the tools away from people who are committing these crimes, making us unsafe.
00:02:00.280This measure, proposed by our budget, is added to other measures that our government has taken to fight for
00:02:08.520to fight against the vehicles this year, such as the reinforcement of the collaboration between the government and the police forces,
00:02:18.280and the police forces, and the police forces, and the police forces.
00:02:30.280Our government is acting now, and acting with purpose, to ensure Canadians feel safe and protected in their communities,
00:02:40.280on the road, in their neighborhoods, in their homes. Because safer communities, communities where families want to live,
00:02:52.280where entrepreneurs want to set up shop, and where people are investing with confidence in their future,
00:03:00.280these are the keys to ensuring fairness for every generation.
