00:00:00.400 I need to acknowledge and take a moment to recognize that the remains of Vivian Silver
00:00:07.600 were identified yesterday in Israel. Originally thought to have been taken hostage, Vivian was
00:00:14.240 killed by Hamas in the terror attacks on October 7. Last month, I had the chance to meet with one 1.00
00:00:22.000 of her sons and I learned of her warmth, her compassion and her lifelong commitment to building
00:00:28.400 bridges between Israelis and Palestinians. Vivian dedicated her life to peace,
00:00:38.400 and a bright light was extinguished on October 7. Her courage, commitment and compassion exemplifies
00:00:47.200 what it means to be a Canadian, what it means to be engaged in the world in positive ways.
00:00:53.280 She will be deeply missed. May her memory be a blessing.
00:01:01.120 Today, I can also confirm that over 350 Canadians and their family members have now been able to
00:01:08.080 safely leave Gaza. We're working tirelessly and will not stop until we're able to secure the departure 1.00
00:01:15.040 of the remaining Canadians. Supporting Canadian citizens and permanent residents continues to
00:01:21.120 be our top priority. The human tragedy that is unfolding in Gaza is heart-wrenching, especially
00:01:30.400 the suffering we see in and around the Al-Shifa hospital. I have been clear that the price of justice
00:01:38.240 cannot be the continued suffering of all Palestinian civilians. Even wars have rules. All innocent life is
00:01:50.720 equal in worth, Israeli and Palestinian. I urge the government of Israel to exercise maximum restraint.
00:02:03.520 As the world is watching on TV, on social media. We're hearing the testimonies of doctors, family members,
00:02:17.360 survivors, kids who've lost their parents. The world is witnessing this. The killing of women and children,
00:02:28.880 children, of babies. This has to stop.
00:02:34.160 J'exhorte le gouvernement d'Israël à faire preuve de la plus grande retenue. La mort de femmes, d'enfants, de bébés doit arrêter.
00:02:51.520 For weeks, we've been calling now for a sustained humanitarian pause and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid for
00:03:01.440 Palestinian civilians. We're all deeply concerned about reports that the UN
00:03:08.000 may not be able to provide continued assistance. And Hamas? Hamas needs to stop using Palestinians 1.00
00:03:18.080 as human shields. They need to release all hostages immediately and unconditionally.
00:03:25.520 Hamas has said that they would commit horrors like October 7th over and over again. The same violent attack
00:03:36.720 that killed so many civilians, including Vivian Silver. So right now, we need the violence to stop
00:03:47.440 urgently so that Palestinians can get access to life-saving medical services, food, fuel, and water.
00:03:56.160 So that all hostages can be released. And so that all Canadians and other nationals can leave Gaza. 1.00
00:04:06.160 We hope that a sustained pause in the violence can help create the conditions
00:04:12.800 for lasting peace. A peace where, through renewed efforts to achieve a two-state solution, Israelis and
00:04:20.400 Palestinians can live side by side in dignity and security.
00:04:25.920 The terrifying acts of anti-Semitic violence in Montreal,
00:04:36.560 my other hometown, or elsewhere across this country, needs to stop. No parent should ever have to tell
00:04:49.200 their child that their school was shot at. No rabbi should have to explain to their congregation
00:05:05.840 that their synagogue was attacked. Anti-Semitism, in any form, is unacceptable. Everywhere.
00:05:15.600 The RCMP is collaborating with local authorities in Montreal and in Quebec, and we're ready to offer more resources.
00:05:23.680 In these most difficult times, all Canadians need to remember who we are,
00:05:40.320 who we are, what values we stand for. And regardless of the hurt and the grief that we may be feeling,
00:05:50.480 we have to be there for our fellow Canadians. It's the only way we make through this,
00:05:56.080 not just as a country, but as a world, by remembering who we are.
00:06:01.840 Thank you.
00:06:11.120 Beyond theieren of the doctors and among other doctors,
00:06:16.600 ...
