00:00:00.000 and now the big moment from the house that the honorable element now the model it is my
00:00:08.560 my duty to now inform the house that
00:00:14.560 that the honorable member for hall elmer has been elected as speaker
00:00:30.000 so
00:00:34.320 let us welcome the new speaker of the house of commons
00:01:00.000 this is
00:01:14.000 We have to follow the rules of the House of Commons.
00:01:36.440 And when we follow them, we will have a fruitful debate, important debate, and it will give
00:01:42.800 us the opportunity to proceed with mutual respect.
00:01:49.400 Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your trust.
00:01:51.760 I hope that I will earn it over the coming years.
00:01:55.740 I hope I will have the opportunity to speak with each one of you to get to know you better.
00:02:01.040 And in this way, we will really set an example for all Canadians.
00:02:08.660 We want to show them that politics is a noble profession.
00:02:11.800 Thank you, and I wish you the greatest success.
00:02:18.400 This should be inspiring for all Canadians, especially younger generations who want to

00:02:30.400 Congratulations.

00:02:48.000 in this place.
00:02:49.000 They elected us to deliver results to help make their lives better.
00:02:54.600 This remains our number one job.
00:02:58.200 And the only way we can make progress is by working together, by respecting each other.
00:03:05.200 The House of Commons is a place for debating ideas.
00:03:11.800 It's normal that we don't always agree with our colleagues.
00:03:16.400 Mr. Speaker, we elected you to help us to be civil in our debates.

00:04:00.400 impossibly cruel crown.
00:04:03.400 And they gathered to force King John to sign the Magna Carta, the Great Charter, which of
00:04:10.400 course restrained the power of the crown.
00:04:13.400 And today, we have a similar circumstance with a government that is excessively powerful
00:04:20.800 and costly, that has overburdened the population, created unprecedented strain, particularly on
00:04:29.300 middle class and working class peoples, who are now forced in many cases to live in tents,
00:04:36.740 to lose their homes, who are skipping meals.
00:04:41.460 We have 7 million who cannot afford food because of the inflationary taxes imposed upon that
00:04:48.020 food by an overly greedy government.
00:04:53.420 And so now more than ever, the role of Parliament in restraining the power of the Prime Minister
00:05:00.080 is primordial.
00:05:01.860 And we will continue to carry out that role proudly on the floor of this House of Commons, because
00:05:06.440 we will always remember that we are servants and not masters of it.
